#(ALL KAGEPRO GIRLS ARE GOOD)

Note
I remember on one of Mar's streams recently you talked about this web comic or manga about interconnected characters and why this one girl was important to them, and showed how the anime ruined a certain scene because it was low budget or something compared to a fan animation. At the time of the stream I swore I would look it up because it looked interesting, I guess i forgot & just now remembered. Unfortunately, I can't find the stream you talked about it on, so I was wondering if you could maybe remember please, sorry to ask like this.
that was almost definitely kagerou project (aka kagepro)
the character in question is Ayano
Tumblr media
her song in the original story (Told through a series of vocaloid music videos) could be considered to be the emotional climax of the series. or at the very least, its the part where many alluded plot points are revealed.
in the anime, however, it was replaced with a poorly animated 3D CGI music video with INCREDIBLY poor visual representation of what was actually going on.
Tumblr media
this, unfortunately is in line with the anime’s visual style, which seemed to have such a low budget that it almost seemed entirely like limited animation, filled with wide shots that allowed the team to barely ever even draw faces on the characters.
This is most egregious when you remember it was made by SHAFT, which has a reputation for making EXTREMELY technically impressive media on extremely small budgets, though 2 other SHAFT products, both part of the monogatari series, were in the works at the same time. which alludes to the idea that resources were clearly not allotted to make the anime any good at all.
Anyways! its a great series! check it out :) just maybe dont watch the anime. the manga, light novels, and music videos all get the job done WAYYYY better.

Besties who love vocaloid I need your help! So when I was 16 or so I was obsessed with this song like it was really good and catchy and I listened to it on loop so much so I got bored of it and deleted from my phone. That was years ago so I mostly forgot about it until recently I got it stuck in my head and I’ve been singing it so I still remember it but I don’t remember the name at all so pls help me find it!
Things I remember about the song that may help into finding it:
The MC looked like Levi from aot. There was also a little girl that either had pigtails or a ponytail
There were trains a lot of trains
The singer was Miku
I believe the animator was Sidu (the same person who animated most of Kagepro) and if it wasn’t her then it was someone with a similar art style
I think the MC dies by the end?
I can’t really detail too much of the song itself bc I don’t understand music but the beginning is like really abrupt? It just starts with a lot of force idk how to describe it
Like I said I was probably 16 at the time so maybe it came out around 2016? Maybe 2017? Idk anyway if you know which one I’m talking about pls let me know! I’ve tried all the keywords with the word train I could come up with but nothing similar is appearing for me so yeh….

Um hiya vinnie,I've liked kagepro since i was like 13 so um do u have any prn hcs for the mekadan? If thats ok 2 ask
FUCK YEAHHH CRACKS KNUCKLES
ayano: she/her but in a deeply transgender way
kido: they/them but also...why not a lil bit of he/him. transmasc kido my beloved...
seto: he/him also in a deeply transgender way.
kano: he/they/it YEAHH WOOO YEAHHHH also transmasc btw if u even care. but i could also transfem ray him he has the range tbh
mary: she/they, doesnt rly care much though. that sonic comic thats like knuckles what are ur pronouns. (saeru: SETO WHAT ARE MARYS PRONOUNS seto: we usually just use she but they dont really care)
momo: she/it, probably a bunch of neos too. the more the better. transfem btw. that whole thing distances her and shintaro even more as kids bc he doesnt understand it very well. meeting ayano helps
takane: they/she/he/it. idk if its bc theyre a favorite or they just have that much gender. canon blue hair and all you know. so nonbinary it makes you look stupid
shintaro: he/him. hes the diversity hire and the only cis person in the dan. ive seen transmasc shintaro hcs and like ofc its awesome but to me it just changes his whole foundation... if a boy, to me he is cis. if trans shintaro...ok hear me out. transfem shin COME ONNN COME ON COME ONNNN C ok yeah that rly self indulgent hc aside, cis 💔 also has a hard time understanding...everyone else. when finding out ayano is trans his brain breaks. he especially cant understand the nonbinaries hes like JUST PICK ONE !!! sry cis shintaro is so funny he keeps wanting to act like a victim for it (confusion and self hatred shed feel in a transfem hc...oughoigh ok sorry ill move on)(puts down the stress ball with shintaro face printed on it)
hibiya: HE/HIM BABY TRANS💗💗💗 gets his first binder from the dan as a gift. kido teaches him to put it on. weehhh wehhhhh sniff sniff but also transfem egg hibiya would be so awesum too😳 both are good. but he is so deeply transgender either way
haruka: he/she. demiboy or demigirl whichever but so epic and genderfluid :) when he is a girl and she is a boy
konoha: it/its cuz unauthorized fucking thing /pos /pos /pos but when it was around, the dan used he/him sort of in the same way they use she for mary lol (kido: indicative but not exclusive to your gender identity. konoha: stop swearing at me)
hiyori: she/her, transfem. no one knows. knew she was a girl since like 0 seconds old. in my sick twisted mind the way hibiya and hiyori become friends in a route like the novels for example, where they didnt rly speak much before their trip together is cuz hiyori finds out hibiya is trans and decides he HAS to be her friend but doesnt Actually tell him that she's trans. probably only tells him after meeting the dan bc thats the whole lgbt community so she's like damn okay

bro kagepro illness also hitting me so hard rn. i mean, ALWAYS. im always very ill but rn... I FEEL SICK!! anyways. lets join our forces. harutaka and kidomomo. tell me abt them <3 anything u want <3 do u think theyd go on double dates <3 i think kido&takane make a good duo cuz Music buddies and kido is honestly pleasantly surprised to see who they know as ene act very normal for once. they're like i thought ene was batshit insane. and takane's like No i am. but i can also be normal<3 and haruka&momo have little art clubs :3 momo is haruka's first job methinks. as like art lessons. very early str haruka's picking himself up and etc etc and momo's like HI. DRAW WITH ME and keeps insisting to pay him and he's like IM NOT A PROFESIONAL U DONT GOTTA PAY ME ALSO UR A FRIEND but momo's like ratio+i have money+u need money+IM PAYING YOU. erm. sorry that was weird im normal. i swear i was just gonna ask a question not go insane on ur askbox. TELL ME ABT HARUTAKA AND KIDOMOMO:3
AUGH 💥💥 i can absolutely see kido and takane hanging out, and the haruka and momo hangout thing reminds me of my fav kdmm fic where haruka was momo's wingman who got her to finally confess to kido. ough... god haruka teaching momo how to draw is smthn ive had in mind for SO LONG. like them drawing and haruka giving momo both art and dating advice. they're buddies post str. i just know it bugs the hell out of shintaro that his sister has gotten so close with his homie too, but he still prefers that than her hanging with takane (he thinks she's a bit of a bad influence. he does not need his sister turning into takane 2). ALSO IMAGINE MOMO DOING HARUKA'S MAKEUP. girls night <3
anyways back to kido and takane. yes they would get along great i feel, like them sharing their music recs!! kido recommending some radiohead while takane recommends the most skull shattering heavy metal songs ever. and also takane gives kido relationship advice too. like whenever ayano gives kido advice takane comes in after she leaves like "hey, all of that she just told you? Forget It. anyways..." (sorry ayano but we dont need kidomomo becoming like. you and shintaro </3)
and i just think kido and takane would just. sit in kido's room and just talk and Vibe, y'know? like takane is the best to have a convo with and yes its refreshing for kido to finally see takane's more normal side
and HRTK KDMM DOUBLE DATE SO REAL AND TRUE. momo and takane are already like this 🤞so it gives haruka and kido an opportunity to know each other better (their partners are also enjoying seeing them get along too) and ooh imagine them going to an arcade for a double date. kido and takane headphone actor rematch no powers involved. takane fucking SMOKES kido. didnt give them a chance to breathe lmao. meanwhile momo and haruka are trying to win every plushie in the crane machine. hrtk and kdmm end up going home each with like 7 plushies. the end ❤️
bonus-
kido: why does takane call you babygirl
haruka why does momo call you babygirl
kido:
haruka:
sorry if this post isnt organized but none of my posts are lol. also UR KAGEPRO MADNESS IS ALWAYS WELCOME IN MY INBOX WE ARE ALL INSANE HERE ON KAGETUMBLR 💥💥

10 more songs I want in proseka + groups that would fit them
I'M MAKING THE SECOND PART NOW. Here's the previous post.
Again, there units chosen for each song is very much based off vibes and my own interpretations so feel free to switch them around!
And just to make sure everyone's on the same page:
SPOILERS FOR THE JP VERSION
Kisaragi attention - JIN
youtube
Unit: MORE MORE JUMP! Singers: MMJ + Rin
First of all, I gotta say that if I COULD add all kagepro songs in the game, I would. The fact that we have an idol character in the series but no MMJ covers is a crime and that's why I'm adding this song.
Haruka, Shizuku, and Airi have all shown hesitation toward being an idol in the main story. One because of the public attention not being what they wanted out of it (Airi), and another because they don't feel like they deserve to be called an idol anymore (Haruka and Shizuku). To be fair, at this point Kisaragi attention seems a little out of character, but the three of them all experienced a lot of hesitation toward their occupations and got over it. I also think Minori (and MMJ Rin) embody the clumsy and insecure nature of the MC in the song.
Dream-eating monochrome baku - Nem
youtube
Unit: Wonderlands x Showtime Singers: Rui, Tsukasa, Len
Hmm remember what I said last time about not wanting to repeat the same pairings over and over again-
I couldn't NOT give this song to these three. I think the vibe of the song fits them so well and Rui especially would sound good in the chorus. Also I want to hear the little 'oh!'s in the song LMAO. They already added it's a wonderful cat life so... I vote for this one too :D
A happy death - Kikuo
youtube
Unit: Nightcord at 25:00 Singers: Kanade, Mafuyu, (+ Miku)
I think people forget how pretty this song is since it gets overshadowed by Kikuo's other works, but I think it deserves a spot on here. (Not that it isn't a popular song of course but it's just not the first song people think of when they think of Kikuo.)
Kanade's character and her whole 'wanting to save people with her music' somewhat falls into place with the song. 'Saving' is being represented by killing the 'you' in the song, which is definitely not what we're trying to do-
But if we really want to go into the nitty gritty, we can say that we are saving Mafuyu by killing the 'good girl' persona she is putting up. Let's not take the song too literally haha.
(+ Kanade would sound nice singing this song.)
Sugar Guitar - Police Piccadilly
youtube
Unit: Leo/Need Singers: L/N + Len
The sound fits well since its instrumental is pretty straightforward for bands. The theme of 'trying to find what you want to do in the future and going for it' fits well since L/N is still trying to find their sound and identity and what they want their band to be (I mean, 'resonating with you' was literally all about what they wanted to do in the future).
Also, it's a bop.
What else can you ask for?
Shinitai Juudai, Koroshitai Nijuudai - Nashimoto-P
(I must add that there is no official translation of the title but I think most people know the song as 'Wanting To Die In My Teens, Wanting To Kill In My Twenties') Unit: Nightcord at 25:00 Singers: Mizuki, Mafuyu, KAITO
I wanted to add in a Nashimoto-P song but I think most of them fall in a genre that don't line up with the game. It was either this one or AaAaAaAAaAaAAa, but after Mafuyu's character development on JP, I think this one fits better.
The N25 crew have all grown to a point where they can do a little reflection on themselves. And as we all know
"you must fight your mother, Mafuyu"
LOL
Kire carry on - Police Piccadilly
youtube
Unit: Leo/Need Singers: L/N + MEIKO
I can't believe I repeated the same producer in the same list with the same unit.
But the vibes on this one just *chefs kiss* immaculate.
Corruption - Parsley Onuma
youtube
(I put Onuma's self-cover in the post because the Miku version has some gore/body horror in the thumbnail/video in case people don't want to see that.
If you want the original you can just click here instead. The tuning is really nice!)
Unit: VIVID BAD SQUAD Singers: Akito & Toya
Hmmm I love this song sm. The main reason I put this song with VBS is because of how it sounds. I noticed a lot of VBS' songs are more rhythmic...? In nature? I'm not sure how to describe it because I never took music classes (all the terminology is above me).
The themes in the song are what lead me to giving it to the good ol' BAD DOGS with no vocaloids added into the mix. From what I'm getting, the MC despises the life they've been living and they feel like they're stuck in a loop of breaking, fixing, and masking themselves. They start to hate the person they're becoming. I think they end up leading a life of anger and spite, but instead find their salvation (the 'you' in the song) which is probably what the 'corruption' in the title refers to.
The song is pretty hard to interpret considering that the story is told from the MC's perspective, but nevertheless, I think it has enough tie-ins with Akito and Toya that I gave it to them.
Toya needed an escape from his home-life which stemmed from spite and in turn brought him to Akito. Akito needed something to help fulfill his desire to be worth something more which brought him to music (and to Toya).
Now sidenote: the themes are also N25 themes, but I don't know how many other people have noticed this but Toya's and Mafuyu's stories are incredibly similar. They would literally be in the same position storywise if it wasn't for the fact that Toya had the Tenmas to open his eyes earlier on in his life.
But that's a whole different tangent for a different day OOP
Yuukei Yesterday - JIN
youtube
Unit: MORE MORE JUMP! Singers: Minori, Haruka, Miku
FINE. ANOTHER KAGEPRO SONG FOR MMJ. SUE ME! (Don't)
Yuukei yesterday is just so upbeat and wholesome. I think it fits with Minori's awkwardness when interacting with Haruka even if she isn't a tsundere like the MC of the song. I think her vocals would be really cute in the chorus ueueue
Common world domination - Pinocchio-P
youtube
Unit: Wonderlands x Showtime Singers: WxS + Rin
I had to double check if this song was in the game or not. I think it could work nicely as a WxS cover since the song is so nonsensical and upbeat. I think any of the WxS members could sound great taking the lead in this song.
But despite that I also think they could also just add the original in the game as a VIRTUAL SINGER song instead of a unit cover :0
My discovery - Seeeeecun
youtube
Unit: VIVID BAD SQUAD Singers: VBS + KAITO
With 'Light up the fire' being... a thing... and Taiga essentially saying all their efforts are going to waste since it's impossible for them to surpass RAD WEEKEND I think adding this song could be interesting.
From what I'm getting, the MC is reflecting on how useless they've become with their future amounting to nothing despite their best efforts. They see themselves as a failure and see their past confidence as nothing but a falsely inflated ego.
I really wanted to add this producer to the list because I think their music is very interesting. I think the word for what they add is 'dissonance'? Anyway, go take a look if you've got time :D
~~~
If you read this entire thing I APPLAUD YOU. Especially if you listened to the songs as well. Please discuss the choices or songs with me, I love talking about this stuff! I'd love to hear about suggestions from other people as well.
Fall Season 2023 Watch List >:3 !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
detailed thoughts >>
protocol rain. happy first esports anime. unsure if this will last the season but for now there's a core of smth in there that keeps me watching. also the op/ed are gorgeous rly where they put their priorities lol bc the main show does look like ass
100 girlfriends/hyakkano. the harem parody i didn't know i needed. the setup is so genuinely stupid but it fires thru jokes at such a rapid pace you barely have time to remember the ones that don't land as well. THE ANIMATION IS SO BEAUTIFUL. also inch rested to see if they can get to 100 girlfriends polycule without becoming boring (komi san i am looking at u......)
apothecary diaries. everything i hoped it would be <33 some say the mysteries are too easy but since im not big on detective stuff im actually happy with the pacing (compared to raven of the inner palace which could drag a lil imo) it just looks soooo good maomao is so fun her cat emotes... <3 ((also ngl. there's elifauve angle to the main duo which i am. delighted abt ww))
ragna crimson. do the character designs look like a b-tier anime from the early 2000s? yeah. does it slap all the fucking way? YEAH. ragna and leo are extremely whatever but crimson (damiacore!!) and angel dragon are SO DOPE. aots no doubt <3 (<- biased i cannot be trusted) it just scratches an itch that hasn't been scratched since the isekai game inspy fantasy scourge took over. bar is on the ground etc
shangri-la frontier. heel turn but. scratches the video game fantasy world itch and it's just stupid enough to be annoying. no isekai bullshit. fight animation that's exactly what made sao fun but without the harem bs that made sao.... sao. (i know there's more girls coming i just hope we stick to fun beat em up with it.)
sousou no frieren. ANIME OF THE DECADE. absolutely no question about it this is the best thing i've ever seen every second of animation is jaw-droppingly beautiful all the characters and the fkcin story the cycles the grief the humanity behind it all. i cry every single ep ;-; i am too enamored by it to even be annoyed abt the german names of everything and everyone. it's awkward but as someone who also gave all their first ocs telling japanese names I'LL LET IT SLIDE <3
spy x family s2. excited to get to boat arc. exactly what you know ur gonna get from it and i love getting more sxf. it's fun!!!!
undead unluck. it has the kill la kill energy (idiocy) we have no choice but to stan. took me actually till ep 2 to clock it was made by shaft guys and now i cannot unsee it anymore. all the chars and gimmicks are stupid and fun and it perfectly fills the niche left empty by zom100 being in production hell. ive watched anime for long enough that i can ignore the sexual comedy bits but it is becoming stale (in which it falls short of what klk was able to pull off. god i miss klk) lol
dropped tier
-shy (technically havent dropped this yet but unless ep3 gets interesting real fast... it's not doing anything well enough to care)
-kamonohashi ron/forbidden deductions (i hate detective shows sorry. was gonna stick it out for his cute disheveled design but i simply do not care enough for the gimmick or the genre)
-kamierabi (what happens when you let yoko taro of nier fame and jin of kagepro fame make a series together? nothing worth watching unfortunately. made me wanna rewatch mirai nikki tho lmao)
summer season leftovers
-jjks2 (U KNOW WHAT IS ABOUT TO BE DONE TO ME)
-zom100 (pour one out for production issues)
do you have anime recs for someone who has seen like.. three. :)
I DO!!!!
here are some of my favs :3
aldnoah zero (scifi mecha in space; it has a lot of wasted potential, but i really love it anyway; mainly bc the mech is cool and the score is amazing)
86 (scifi mecha on earth; please watch this one; it's truly the most well shot anime i've ever seen; and the score is fucking amazing)
deadman wonderland (horror psychological; this one has a much better manga than anime, but i thought the anime was good; it should've just gone on longer)
mobile suit gundam: the witch from mercury (scifi mecha in space; contrary to popular belief, this is pretty easy to understand without having seen the rest of the gundam series; make sure you watch the prologue too!!)
eureka seven (scifi mecha on earth; the mech in this one is ALSO really cool and the characters are so lovable <3)
mawaru penguindrum (magical girl slice of life with penguins; kinda sexual for literally no reason, but i think the story is really sweet)
elfen lied (scifi psychological horror; this is the first anime i ever watched all the way through, but it's so amazing; it is also sexual for no reason, but it has a very special place in my heart)
fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood (you've probably heard of this one, but it really is as good as everyone says)
kiznaiver (scifi psychological; this one reminds me of kagepro mixed with dmwl; it was the show that got me back into watching anime)
princess tutu (magical girl fantasy with ducks and swans; it's a story of the swan princess and it's done so well; definitely made for kids, but the meaning can definitely reach adults too <3)
shigatsu wa kimi no uso/your lie in april (depressing slice of life; i watched this originally because the mc is a violinist like i am and it broke my heart <3)
koe no katachi/a silent voice (sad slice of life; i watched this with one of my best friends because she's deaf and i'm hard of hearing, so we connected with this one a lot; i really love the animation also)
bubble (scifi romance; this was such a cute movie omg; i absolutely adored it and the score is to die for)
there is a lot more than this that i like, but this is everything that came to mind right away!! please let me know what you think if you watch any of these anon!! 🥰
Through Loss Comes A Second Chance
Word Count: 4433
TW: Mention of suicide
It has been a hot minute since I last wrote anything, especially for the Kagepro fandom. The last fic I wrote was "Love's Descent into Madness", where its last chapter was posted almost two years ago in December. At least I can say I posted this on the tail-end of August!
So I've had this idea floating around in my brain for a few years now. I can't remember exactly what brought this on but I do know I hadn't seen much of anything for Momo and Ene and I wanted to rectify that. I just chose to kill Shintaro off since I feel like that would've been the most likely scenario for how these two would've come together and become friends. I'm becoming yet another pioneer for a dynamic I think the fandom has slept on!
One last thing I want to mention is that this was actually beta'd! I normally don't let others touch my work because I'm kinda a control freak and the very idea of having someone come in and make edits of my work is extremely terrifying but my friend, who is one of the very few people I WOULD trust with this, offered to beat read this and I took them up on it. They ended up doing such a good job, I decided to post it! They deserve credit for this so thank you, rosemaryblues!
     Weeks had passed since that day. Just how many, Ene wasn’t sure. Honestly, if it weren’t for the clock in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop screen, she wouldn’t have even known a day had gone by. Time stopped mattering to her the moment her reason for living in this world left her behind.
     What point was there in being alive now? The one person that gave her a shred of purpose in life was dead, along with everyone else she knew. What was she supposed to do? Was she to waste away in the confines of his computer until its power supply shut down permanently? Or go back to cyberspace and let the guilt consume her there? She didn’t care either way.
     The room felt like it had been frozen in time since his death. His bed was still unmade from when he’d woken up that morning, the piles of trash forever on the floor he never got around to picking up; even his desk had stayed littered with his beloved soda bottles. Ene hadn’t found the strength to put his files back to how they were originally. She was afraid of touching anything in fear she’d accidentally delete it and destroy what little remained of him. They may all have just been code but they were as real to her as the world on the other side of the screen was.
     She never imagined a day like this would come. A day in which she’d lose everything she’d worked so hard to regain. She felt so lost without him here. Her whole world practically revolved around him, from talking with him throughout all hours of the day to playing pranks on him in the hopes it’d get his full attention. He was her only source of companionship and now he was gone. Maybe she was just doomed to live alone for the rest of her life.
     There was a noise at the door. It was a sound she hadn’t heard in quite a while. Taken aback, she hid automatically behind one of the folders on the desktop screen. There was only one person she knew who would come in here. Her hunch was proven to be correct when a familiar teenage girl walked in.
     It was Momo, his little sister. She looked positively awful, and it wasn’t hard to guess why. Her hair looked like it hadn’t been brushed in days, her clothes as if she had slept in them, her eyes with heavy shadows under them. It was heartbreaking seeing her like this, not at all like the perfect idol Ene usually saw plastered across the various corners of the web. Momo crossed the threshold into his room and closed the door behind her, her gaze fixated to the ground.
     The two of them were acquaintances at best. Ene had first met Momo weeks into her stay here and they’d occasionally talk here and there. It was shocking to see just how alike the siblings’ were to each other. Yet, unlike her brother, she had been doing far better for herself. Balancing the work she did as an idol while also attending school to the best of her ability was more than any 16 year old girl could reasonably handle but she did it all with a bright, cheerful smile.
     But that was before. Her talent agency had put her on a leave of absence once word had reached them, giving her time to mourn and recover from her loss. Ene remembered reading the article about it when it came out and a minuscule seed of relief had bloomed within her. She may have been grieving over him as well but he was Momo's family. She only knew him for a year while Momo grew up with him. There was no telling how badly this was affecting her.
     The siblings’ relationship was…complicated, to say the least. Momo could hardly stand to be in the same room as him and he generally kept to himself just about all the time. However, there was no doubting his love for her. He wasn’t very loud or showy with it but Ene knew him well enough to see his own way of expressing it. She wondered if Momo had any idea of it beneath her disdain for him.
     Ene watched as Momo slowly made her way towards the bed. Her fingers brushed over the sheets before she decided to sit down on the edge. Her head had been bowed the entire time, seeming to have not noticed Ene’s presence. She had to strain her ears to hear what Momo muttered under her breath:
     “What am I doing here?”
     She was taking this hard. Losing a relative was never easy but this was her second time now losing someone close to her. Ene didn’t know much about their family history but she knew the siblings’ father died several years ago while visiting the beach with Momo. Their mother had also ended up in the hospital after nearly overworking herself to death to care for her two children. Such things is why Momo decided to try and bring in an income herself. Oh god, had she been trying to handle this all by herself?
     Momo rose from the bed. She walked towards the nearest bookcase where his books and manga sat. Her hand skimmed over the spines of each one on the shelf closest to her before she plucked a thin, paperback novel out from it. She flipped through the pages, sighed, and put it back in its place, repeating this process with several other books.
     Ene slowly approached the front of the screen, her activity bringing the computer out of its weeks-long sleep. It lit up the room where it was facing and it caught Momo’s attention. She turned to greet her. “Oh, Ene-chan. I forgot you were here.”
     Her voice sounded weak, fragile to the point where she seemed to be only one second away from falling apart. That listless demeanor of hers didn’t suit her at all. It was too familiar to her brother’s and it made Ene worry.
     What was she to say here? She knew Momo wasn’t okay and she had just as much right to be in his room as she did, maybe even more so. Dumbfounded, she decided to ask, “Is there anything I can help you with?”
     “Could you--” her voice cracked, prompting her to clear her throat-- “could you…tell me what he was like?”
     “Huh?" Ene was a little taken aback.
     “What was my brother like? I figured, since you spent more time with him than anyone else did, I might’ve…” she paused, her head turned back to face the bookcase, “gotten to learn about him.”
     So that was it. The siblings’ relationship was complicated on both sides, that much she understood, but was it really that strained? Sure, they argued and fought with each other like most siblings did but was that all they did? If so, then it was no wonder why Momo was asking this of her. In her eyes, a virtual stranger like Ene had seen more of her brother in a year than his own sister had throughout their whole lives together. It was enough for Ene to pity her.
     If telling her about him was what she wished, then Ene would oblige. “Master was…a stubborn man. It was always his way or the highway on most things and it’d take forever for him to see things from my perspective. He also never listened to me, it was in one ear and out the other. Whenever I’d ask him to clean up around here or eat something that wasn’t junk food, he’d either brush it off or get mad at me! Me, someone who was just looking out for him when he couldn’t do it himself!”
     That earned a snort from Momo. “That sounds about right. If even you couldn’t get through to him, no one could.”
     “I felt more like his mother than his servant at times.” She let out a heavy sigh, despite the smile growing across her face. “I know waking him up wasn’t what I signed up for but him sleeping in till noon was unacceptable! That’s why I’d turn the volume up and scare the crap out of him on some mornings!”
     “That’s what that noise was?!” There was more emotion to her voice now. “I just thought he forgot he wasn’t the only one living here…”
     “Yeah, it was so funny watching him jump out of the bed and beg me to turn it off,” she answered through fits of giggles. “And he was never grateful for it! Trying to get a thank you from him was like pulling teeth!”
     Momo burst into laughter after that. It felt good to see her smile again, especially since she looked like a zombie when she crossed through the door. Ene was happy she was able to bring some comfort to her. Sharing the memories she had of him lessened the weight on her shoulders and kept the pain of missing him at bay. It was a nice respite from the heavy toll the past few weeks took on her.
     Then Momo fell quiet. Maybe she thought it was inappropriate to be even a little joyful so soon after his death, or her grief became too much for her to hold back any longer. Whatever the case may be, her shoulders drooped as she went to pick out another book. A few moments of silence passed before she spoke, breaking the lull in their conversation.
     “Ene-chan…do you know why my brother became a shut-in two years ago?”
     The question blindsided her. Of course she knew why he spent every waking hour in this tiny room. His guilt in how he treated Ayano before her suicide was the main contributing factor, though Ene supposed her and Haruka’s deaths didn’t help matters either. It was through her showing up when she did that delayed what might’ve been his inevitable end. There were too many things she couldn’t tell Momo about, if only because there was no easy way of explaining it.
     Their story was too interconnected. It was too full of pain, sorrow, and regret and Ene had no desire to talk about it. She could lie to her but Momo deserved to know the truth. Or something resembling it at least. She settled on the omission of certain facts, ambiguities that would serve their purpose well enough.
     “Master was very…troubled.” She clasped her hands. “A lot went on in his head, things I can’t say I was ever privy to. There were times he’d say or do something that set alarm bells off in me but I’d just brush it aside and try to help him in the best way I knew how.” Yet it wasn’t enough. “I can’t speak as to why he shut himself up in here but I’m sure he must’ve had a good reason to not tell you why.”
     Momo’s body stiffened as she whispered, “I see.”
     Ene could tell she was gutted by her answer. The past two years had to be both hard and frustrating for her as his sister. There was no doubt she loved her brother but his general apathy and their similar personalities had made communication between each other difficult. Momo must’ve been so desperate to help him out in any way she could, she just didn’t know how. Why did he have to leave her alone to clean up his mess? Ene thought bitterly.
     “It’s just like him,” Momo muttered derisively. It was a tone Ene heard him use against her all the time but never from Momo. It was at that point she turned around to face her, holding a thick, heavy-looking book in her hands. She began walking towards her, saying, “It’s just like my brother to not tell me anything. After all, it’s not like he ever cared about me.” Momo’s eyes had tears threatening to spill over at any moment. “He probably thought I would just make things worse.”
     “That’s not it, he---”
     “So then why?!” She suddenly threw the book across the other side of the room. It hit the wall and landed on the floor. “Why did he have to go and do this?! Did-did he ever stop and think about what would happen if he did this?! What about me, what about mom?! It was bad enough losing dad and now he’s gone too? Didn’t he know that…” Her voice cracked as tears rolled down her cheeks. “-that I would’ve helped him? He may have been weird and creepy and gross but…he was still my brother, so I…” Sobs wracked Momo’s body as she hugged herself tight.
     “I can’t claim to know what went through Master’s head when he…” Ene paused. A small flash of sorrow pierced her heart. She swallowed it with a heavy breath. “But what I can tell you is that he may not have wanted to burden you with his problems.”
     Sniffling, Momo wiped away her tears as she asked, “B-burden me?”
     “You already had school and idol work to deal with y'know? So he probably didn’t want you stressing yourself out even more by worrying about him.” Another sadder possibility crossed her mind. “Maybe…maybe he thought you’d be better off without him.”
     “I…” She sniffled again, taking a step forward. “I don’t know what to believe. He just never showed any sign of caring about me and---”
     “He did, I can attest to that.” Ene flitted over to a folder in the upper left-hand corner and peeked into it. “Here, I’ll show you.”
     She threw several files out across the screen, some of which were images and videos he downloaded off the Internet while others were of MP3s he had bought. Whether it was promotional material, clips of her concerts, or songs she released on streaming platforms, he archived everything he could of Momo. This was the one folder Ene had never touched because she knew how important it was to him. She was an only child in her past life, so she was almost envious of the other girl for having an older brother who was so supportive of her.
     Approaching the desk, Momo’s eyes flickered over all the windows popping up and asked, “Are these…of me?”
     “He may not have expressed it but Master loved you very much,” Ene replied, tucking herself into the corner so as to not block anything. “He listened to and shared your music whenever a new song would come out, read every article you were in, and watched clips of your concerts from fans who’d record your performances and post them up on social media.”
     “Why…didn’t he ever mention this?” She pulled the chair away from his desk and sat down in it. “Why did he keep this secret?”
     “I don’t know. But he never stopped supporting you, even when things got…too difficult for him.” She floated as close to the screen as possible, keeping her face hidden from view. “Don’t ever doubt how much he cared about you. Please, for his sake.”
     Rolling up to the desk, Momo took hold of the mouse. She clicked on one of the many windows displayed; a picture of her striking a pose she had done on the cover of a magazine. She closed it and clicked on another; a clip of a recent concert she had done. The corners of her mouth curved up slightly as she watched herself trip and face-plant in front of hundreds of people live on stage. Ene observed this all in rapt silence.
     Fresh tears slid down her face as a pained smile stretched across her face, saying, “God, it’s just like him to keep track of me like a weirdo…”
     This was only a glimpse into what their dynamic was like during the rare times they interacted with each other and she was sure Momo missed those days. She must’ve wanted that sense of normalcy back so she wouldn’t face the reality of his death. Ene knew what that was like all too well.
     “Is it weird to miss him if I didn’t know him that well?” Momo asked as she wiped away her tears with her arm. “Sometimes I wonder…if I just reached out to him, if I said something to him, would he still be here?”
     “You couldn’t have known.” Ene wished she could pass through the screen at that moment. “It’s no use thinking about what you could’ve done differently.”
     “But if I had just tried harder, if I had just pushed him to tell me…” She hung her head as she stifled a sob. “What kind of sister am I?! He supported me all this time and yet I couldn’t do the same for him! It’s my fault, it’s---”
     “Momo!” She hadn’t meant to shout but it was the first thing that leapt into her head. The other girl snapped to attention. “It’s not your fault. If anything, it’s mine because I’m the one he talked the most with, he spent time with. If I hadn’t pulled that stupid prank, if I had just come back sooner, he’d…”
     It was then she noticed it. It started off with one or two droplets before the dam burst and she was suddenly crying. She dropped to her knees, covering her face with her hands as her chest constricted in agonizing pain. He wasn’t coming back, she knew that. But did she really? No longer would he be upset at her for playing her practical jokes on him, pleading with her to not post his embarrassing pictures online. He was gone and it was all her fault.
     She couldn’t save anyone. Not Haruka, not Shintaro, not even her own damn self when it mattered the most. They were all dead and nothing was ever going to change that fact. What was she to do now? The only person left that seemed to care for her was gone because she wasn’t able to get through to him. The sin of his death weighed down on her like a rock as she sank further and further into---
     “Ene-chan!” Momo’s voice broke her out of her downward spiral. Ene looked up to see her face super close to the screen. “It wasn’t your fault! It’s like you said, we couldn’t have known so please…” She lowered her head, tears falling onto the desk. “Please don’t blame yourself for what happened. I…I forgive you!”
     Momo, someone who had all the right in the world to blame her for her brother’s suicide, forgave her? She wasn’t one to say things without meaning them so she had to be for real…right?
     Wiping her face with her sleeve, she said, “I don’t know what I did to deserve such a thing but…thank you.” Then she smiled as the realization hit her. “I bet Master would’ve loved having two girls cry over him like the creep he was.”
     “Oh god…” There was some semblance of a laugh in her voice at the joke. “He would, wouldn’t he?”
     They spent the next few minutes in near silence. Ene gave Momo some privacy to recompose herself but couldn’t help glancing her way every so often. She had a feeling she’d be okay after this. Even if it took time still, there would come a day where the guilt of living would subside and she’d be happy again. Ene believed that was what Shintaro would’ve wanted for her to.
     “Hey, Ene-chan?” Momo called out. “What are you planning to do now that my brother’s gone?”
     That was the million dollar question, wasn’t it? She didn’t dare tell Momo about what she thought of doing before she had entered the room. It wouldn’t be right worrying her over such depressing things. She did, however, know she did NOT want to go back to cyberspace again. She already spent one year in that goddamn lonely place.
     “I don’t know,” Ene replied, looking down at her hands to avoid Momo’s gaze. “I haven’t really thought about it.”
     “Maybe…” A pause, then an exhale. “Maybe this is the chance for you to live your own life from now on.” This made Ene lift her head. “I mean, you spent a lot of time with my brother, right? So I was thinking this might be a good opportunity for you to do that since you don’t have anyone to look out for anymore.”
     She had a point. It wasn’t like her days with Shintaro weren’t some of the most fun and happiest she had since becoming Ene. Many of the skills she learned were for the purposes of fucking with him so she didn’t know how useful they’d be outside that periphery. Not to mention the lack of a physical body limited her options as well.
     “I was also thinking…” Momo’s voice broke through her reverie. “Well, I know it’s selfish of me to ask this but…would you be okay with staying here for a little while longer? With me, maybe?” Ene was taken aback by her proposition. Then the other girl grew flustered, clarifying, “Only if you want to, though! I didn’t wanna make it seem like I was kicking you out or anything, that’s why I was asking and it’s fine if you don’t, I just---”
     “Yes! I’ll--” she cut in before Momo lost her mind-- “I’ll stay.”
     A moment passed for her answer to sink in and she said with a smile, “Thank you, Ene-chan. I think if we stick together, we can help each other out so…let’s become good friends, okay?”
     For the first time since that day, she felt hopeful for the future.
     After traversing through what seemed like rows upon rows of graves, they finally arrived at their destination. It had taken them a while to figure out where it could have been, not helped by Momo’s terrible sense of direction. It was when they were deep inside the cemetery Ene was able to read the familiar characters inscribed on the stone monument to realize they had found it. So there, standing just before them, laid the final resting place of Shintaro Kisaragi.
     Months had passed since his death and the two girls were still adjusting to a life without him in it. However, the burden that had been weighing heavily on them since then had lessened somewhat. The pain was easier to manage now. Ene was taking steps to venture outside of his PC with every new day while Momo had gone back to work better than ever before. Most of all, their relationship had blossomed beautifully to the point where they considered each other to be best friends.
     Today was special. They both felt emotionally secure enough to come here, which was saying a lot after those initial few weeks. They wanted to let him know, wherever he was, how they were doing and what their plans for the future were. The most important thing they wished to convey, though, was that he needn’t worry over them. They had each other to lean on now so they were going to be okay. They were going to live out their lives and meet him again when it was their time to go, he just had to be patient until then.
     Momo placed her phone, which held Ene, down beside the grave. Then she set the two incense sticks in the holder, lit them up, and clapped her hands together. Ene did the same, closing her eyes as they paid their respects. Luckily, they brought enough supplies with them for the next two graves they were planning to visit after they finished their business at Shintaro’s. It was only fair for Momo to meet Haruka and Ayano as well.
     She told her about them a month or so ago. There were some details she left out, mainly regarding her actual connection to Shintaro and his ties with their former friend group, but everything else was the complete and utter truth. There may come a day where she’d reveal everything, but this was fine for now.
     Once they were done, Momo proceeded to tell him about everything she had been up to lately. The staff assigned to her had been understanding of the way her loss affected her and her fans sent lots of love to her during her hiatus. It’s because of their kindness that it made her want to try even harder to repay all of them for all the support they’d given her throughout her absence. She was still having a hard time in school but she was proud to admit her test scores had improved somewhat, going from single digits to doubles. Of course there was also mention of her and Ene having grown closer, which she imagined Shintaro was despairing over.
     “I also wanted to say that--” Momo’s expression turned serious-- “even though we never really talked, we just argued all the time…I never hated you. I know I said I did a lot but I never meant it.” She took a deep breath in, then out as she calmed herself. “At the end of the day, you’re still my brother and…I love you.”
     Then it was Ene’s turn. She followed the same routine as Momo’s, albeit with some careful wording so as to not throw suspicion onto herself. She still messed with his files here and there and she kept the cheek he got aggravated with on a daily basis. Nothing between them had to change that much after his death. However, there was one thing she wanted to say, without any jokes or backhanded remarks.
     “In all seriousness, I know I teased you a lot back then but I hope you know that that was my way of showing how I cared about you.” Her eyes wandered down to the bottom of the grave. “The year I spent with you was some of the most fun I ever had. It had its ups and downs but I don’t regret meeting you, not one bit.” Then she looked up with a firm resolve and hoped that what she said next would reach him. “Thank you for being my best friend.”
     With that, they bid farewell to him. It was never easy moving on but Ene already did it once, and she’d do it again. She had no idea what the future had in store for her and Momo. What she did know was that they would face it together, with their heads held high and his memory in their hearts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little girl yawns as she walks her way home from her part-time job. Despite being the same age as her peers, Sayu has the appearance of a child thus making it difficult for her to live on her own ever since her Sensei left.
She doesn't know why, but she keeps convincing herself that Sensei is training or learning new techniques as one of the last ninja remaining in modern times and that they'll come back to teach her more.
Of course, that was only wishful thinking...they haven't come back in so long, and didn't even leave with a message. The last thing Sayu has from them, are the teachings he gave and a customized hoodie based on a Mujina, designed in her favorite colors. Even though she was still a novice with her ninjutsu skills, she keeps those lessons to heart.
She always wore it all the time...unfortunately, it was very hot today despite the time being in the late afternoon, the sun setting for night to come.
"Ugh why is it so hot...???" Sayu groaned. She was quite known to seem down all the time, and the heat was just making her seem even more in a sour mood.
"Ah! Hey, little Tanuki!" A familiar, cheerful voice calls out to her. A girl with a messy ponytail, a crop-top, denim shorts and a orange cardigan, an outfit very fitting for the summer heat, runs over to her. The sounds of her sandals clacking with every step.
"I'm not a Tanuki, I'm Sayu." Sayu pouts. Yoimiya ignores her, "Do you wanna hang out at the festival today? The fireworks show is gonna start soon so I would really love it if you would join me!"
Sayu lets out a tired sigh, "Firstly, I don't wanna go to the festival. Its so hot today and the festival area's gonna be crowded. Secondly, I just came back from my part-time job. I wanna go home and sleep. Thirdly, you're gonna ask me to do a ninjutsu trick during the show...again. I'm still learning and I'm not that good at it yet."
"Oh come on, please! I promise I won't ask you to do ninjutsu, but could you at least come with me to watch the fireworks?" Yoimiya pleads. "I can just watch it from my apartment" Sayu mutters. "But seeing fireworks up-close is different from that! You've been declining my invites all the time...you'll never know when we can see the fireworks together." Yoimiya stated. Sayu thinks for a bit and ultimately decides to give up on arguing, "Okay, I guess I'll go."
Yoimiya claps her hands in excitement, letting out a squeal before grabbing Sayu's hand and running off to the festival.
The warm yellow-orange lights from the paper lanterns would've made Sayu fall asleep, if it wasn't from the chatter from other visitors and the kids running around playing. Currently, they were looking for a spot where they can watch the fireworks in a clear view.
"Huh, looks like that spot's pretty crowded." Yoimiya says, making Sayu turn her head over to the area out of curiosity. "Don't worry, I know all the best spots to see the fireworks. They don't call me the Queen of Summer Festivals for nothing!" Yoimiya says with a smile.
The two walk around a bit more, Sayu being dragged along by the strawberry-blonde girl. Yoimiya suddenly stops in her tracks, making the little girl bump into her. "Ow..." She mutters, rubbing her forehead before turning to look at what Yoimiya was staring at.
It was a lit sparkler next to the box of fireworks that was supposed to be used for the show. "Yoimiya I think we should leave—" "I'm just gonna pick this up and throw it into the river."
Sayu had a bad feeling about this.... "Yoimiya, wait—!" But it was too late...the sparklers lit the fireworks.
And as if time froze or slowed down itself, the deafening sounds of fireworks popping along with a muffled scream that came out of her mouth, the two of them were swallowed by a snake that would only let them relive this tragedy time and time again.
Tumblr media
Letting out a tired yawn, Sayu realizes she must've slept while she was walking. 'I should've been more careful...' She thought as she looks up to the sky, using her hand to shield her eyes from the setting sun.
Goldfish swim across the sea of orange, now turning into a sea of stars. "What a pretty sight..." She says in awe. "Hey, little Tanuki!!!" A familiar voice calls out to her. "I'm not a tanuki, I'm Sayu!" She says as she puffs her cheeks.
Yoimiya lets out a giggle, "I know. Hey, wanna go to the Festival with me?" she asks. "Eh...? But I'm on my way home to sleep." Sayu said. "C'mon, please!!!" Yoimiya pleaded, clasping her hands together in desperation. "Mngh...okay, just this once." Sayu mutters. "Yay!! Let's go catch some goldfish and watch the fireworks okay?"
When they arrived, it seemed that almost no one was around. Sayu lets out a relieved sigh, "I'm glad there's less people here...it's so hot."
"Mmm yeah, but wouldn't that mean that only we would see the fireworks? Not that I would mind..." Yoimiya mutters the last part. Sayu looked around, before pointing to the goldfish scooping stand. "Ah perfect! Let's see how many we can catch!" Yoimiya exclaims.
The two spent their time enjoying the festival until night came, Sayu was unlucky and couldn't catch any goldfish while Yoimiya managed to catch two. One for herself and one for one of the kids she babysat. "Why don't we watch the fireworks by the riverbank? The view's pretty nice, plus we can look at the entire festival while watching!" Yoimiya exclaimed. "Mkay." Sayu gave a curt nod.
When they found a good spot, the both took off their shoes so that they can let their feet hang off the concrete ledge without worry. Sayu takes a sip of her juice, waiting for the fireworks to start. "You can rest your head on my shoulder if you want to. I don't mind." Yoimiya says with a smile. Sayu immediately plops her head onto her shoulder.
She was about to close her eyes and take a nap until suddenly, the boom of the fireworks startled her. "Look, Sayu! The fireworks are starting! Ah-!" As Yoimiya points to the sky the string of her goldfish bag broke off and fell into the water. "Oh no...I'm gonna try and catch one of them real quick. It would be a waste if I couldn't at least bring one to Iwao..."
"Ah wait...!" Before Sayu could process what just happened, Yoimiya was already in the water. Worry and Panic filled Sayu's face when she looked around and found a sign that says no swimming. "Yoimiya wait!!!" Sayu discards her drink off to the side and canonballs into the water.
It was deeper than she thought....way too deep for her short stature. She opens her eyes and tries her best to look around in the murky water, there she finds her friend's foot tied to a seaweed, not breathing. Sayu panics and tries to save her...only for her time to be up.
Tumblr media
Sayu wakes up with a jolt, sweat on the brim on her forehead. "Hey, are you okay?" Yoimiya's voice sends a chill down her spine. 'Isn't she dead...?' She thought as her face pales. "Hello? Sayu? Are you okay?" The summer girl asks again. "I-I'm fine! Just had a bad dream..." Sayu says in reassurance, though it felt like she was trying to convince herself more than anything.
"You sure? 'Cause I was about to invite you to the festival but I found you shaking over here." Yoimiya stated. "Um...I'll be fine. Let's just go to the festival." "Hm...alright. I'm still worried about you so let's take this easy since this is our first time going together!" Yoimiya says with a carefree smile.
'Everything's exactly the same...' Sayu thought as they entered the festival. All they did was play some stall games and eat some food. "Hey, I think I should go home now..." She says. Yoimiya lets out a sigh, "Alright then. It's a shame we couldn't watch the fireworks together." "I could just watch them from the window..." "It's not the same!!"
Unbeknownst to them, one of the paper lanterns fell off it's string due to the wind and it was currently causing a fire. "Hey, do you smell that?" Yoimiya asks. Sayu sniffs the air before seeing a fire nearby, "Fire!"
"Oh no! We have to get out of here!!! Hey, can you do your Ninjutsu trick?" Yoimiya asks. "I only use it for stealth! I don't know how would it help us in a fire!!!" Sayu exclaims. "We can swim through the river-" "NO!!!"
Yoimiya became stunned speechless when she heard that yell from the usually soft-spoken girl. "It's too dangerous. We don't know how deep it is! O-or how strong the current is!" Sayu added. "Well, then I guess we have to go back the normal way." Yoimiya tightly grasps Sayu's hand as they both cover their nose and mouth with part of their clothes.
But no matter where they went, there was fire all around them with no point of escape. "Sayu look out!" Yoimiya pushes Sayu aside, only for the both to be crushed by a burning tree.
Tumblr media
Sayu wakes up again. Yoimiya looks at her with worry but invites her to the festival. Sayu gets dragged around and watches the Queen of Summer Festivals over and over again...to the point she has lost track of time and is wondering what's the point of this.
She looks up to the sky filled with goldfish and glares at it, what she once called "a pretty sight" now feels like it's mocking her. As if saying Yoimiya is out of reach and will never be saved.
"Hey Sayu. What's got you in a bad mood?" Yoimiya asks, with concern. "You won't understand..." Sayu pouts, curling herself up into a ball and uses her ninjutsu to turn into a mujina daruma. Yoimiya lends her a hand, "Hey...don't be so down. Let's walk to the festival together."
Sayu desperately wants to yell at her that, "No, I don't want to go to the festival! We'll just die again!" but it was not like she knew any other way out of this. This world only has a road leading to the festival, and yet there was never a car passing by. All the buildings are just like cardboard cut-outs made for a stage play.
Letting out a sigh, she reluctantly changes back and takes Yoimiya's hand. They play mindless games and eat food again, not that it felt filling for Sayu. Though...maybe just this once she can pretend that nothing is wrong.
"It seems pretty crowded over there...Hey, I know a good spot to watch the fireworks! C'mon!" Yoimiya grabs Sayu's hand as they run off to the direction of the riverbank. However, they stop.
"Ah geez, someone left their sparkler! Don't they know that this can cause a fire hazard?" Yoimiya approaches the sparkler like the first time. "Yoimiya! The fireworks!!!" Sayu cried out. "Hm?"
Instead of the crackle and boom of fireworks like she expected, Sayu heard gunshots coming from the crowded area. "What the—!?" Before Yoimiya could react, Sayu slapped the sparkler out of her hand, tossing it into the river and making a break for it.
"We need to leave!" Sayu said, as this time she was dragging Yoimiya around to find an exit. Unfortunately it seemed that they were surrounded. "Sayu, I need you to do your ninjutsu and hide yourself. While I distract them." Yoimiya stated. "Wh–!? I'm not leaving you!" Sayu exclaimed. "I know...but I promise I'll be back. Just wait okay?" Yoimiya says with a smile that doesn't seem to reach her eyes. Sayu reluctantly nods and hides by a nearby stall as her Mujina Daruma.
She tries to keep herself from crying or screaming when she heard more gunshots and screams of pain, resorting to covering her ears. But suddenly...it just stopped. All she heard were cicadas and the wind breeze.
She slowly opens her eyes, and looks around. She was surrounded by burnt debris coming from the first accident, caution tape surrounding the area. Sayu gets up and finds a rope bracelet that once belonged to Yoimiya. Shocked, she picks it up and walks outside hoping to ask anyone if they've seen her.
"Excuse me?" Sayu asks the group, but they didn't seem  to notice.
"Apparently there were 2 girls missing. Like they just vanished." "Do you think it's a ghost?" "Nah that wouldn't make sense. People saw them in the festival."
"H-Hello...?" She asks again.
"It's a good thing we didn't go...lots of people were injured." "Hey, can we change the topic? It feels so gloomy, especially the fact we passed by the venue."
"E-Excuse me!" Sayu tugs on one of their shirts. The group turns to her, faces filled with shock. "Have you seen my friend? She dropped her bracelet." She asks, showing it in her palms.
"Y-You're...one of the missing girls...H-How...!?" "I'm telling you she's a ghost!" "C'mon let's just go."
"Ah, w-wait!" Sayu tries calling out to them but they ignore her. She looks down onto the sidewalk, upset. 'Yoimiya...' Tears slowly fill her eyes but then she notices her hand disappearing. "WAUGH!!! Wh-what's happening!?!" She says in a panic. Her deep magenta eyes, now a vibrant red, are welled up with tears.
"I don't wanna be a ghost! I just wanna find Yoimiya!!!" She cried out in desperation. "Hey." A hand taps on her shoulder. Sayu turns around seeing a blonde haired girl, dressed in white and pale blue. "Are you okay...?" The girl asks. Sayu sniffs and shakes her head. "What's your name?" "S..Sayu..." "Sayu, well...My name is Lumine. Could you tell me what happened?"
Sayu would normally dismiss the girl but after being stuck in a time loop of death happening on the same day, she just let out everything...even though it sounds absurd. But to her surprise, Lumine doesn't care and just listens.
"I understand, you're just like one of us..." Lumine says with a smile. "One...of us...?" Sayu asks in confusion. "Have you heard of The Legend of the Medusa?"
Throwback to Dazecon for a minute and when my introduction on there ended up digging into a ten minute conversation with others on a Kagerou Daze/AI The Somnium Files group of ideas, of which included Shintaro with the Eneball.
This is my first attempt at doing a sketch page type thing rather than just drawing a solitary figure on a piece of paper and calling it one and done. It means you can also see me testing colours to make sure I got the right shit. This included me practising creating different skin tones with other colours before just getting the pencil I wanted, which once again has left me with a Shintaro that looks like he has spent too much time outside.
I wanted to give him some fresh drip for being in the "future" (literally in terms of when AI takes place compared to when Kagepro can assume to be taken, and sarcastically in that it's 2019 and we all know what people were wearing in 2019), and my friend was like "go triangles over squares," so here we are.
Also, Shintaro's a cop? Of sorts? Which is why he has a gun. And an AI-Ball. I promise he didn't just steal some shit. This is also why he has a necktie, to maintain some level of formality in his dress (read: his Boss forced him to). He also has a black suit jacket that he can actually wear in combination with the tie. I suppose that can be considered the XX equivalent?
It might be hard to see, but he's got a scar over the eye where Ene resides. As well, the Eneball appears bright blue at a distance, but up close has a gradient that shifts from bright blue to dark blue, like Aiba's iris shifting from yellow to orange up close but I used textas and positively fucked it. Anyways, I wonder how he got the scar over his eye~?
Second part featuring everyone's favourite cyber-girl, Ene. Third part featuring everyone's tragic heroine alter, Yaki.
He stared at the shifting summer sky. Bright, bright blue, painted over with oblong streaks of white, as the barest hint of red coul be seen in the corner of his eye. In his hand, a weight pressed down on the skin-tight glove that covered sweating, itching flesh.
An annoyed voice rang in his mind, not at all cute and definitely aggravating. Warning, challenging, mocking, and maybe, just maybe, caring. One that might have looked good in blue, like a bolt of lightning, maybe. Ha, she'd hate to hear that. A much gentler, much more carefree voice followed, openly showing concern and pitifully trying to reproach the former. A voice that felt like a bright green, as full of life as any healer, despite his actual taste in games and characters.
A third voice joined them, one that felt infinitely warm, infinitely kind, infinitely patient. One that felt much like that encroaching red summer sky, that signals endings and departures. It was a voice that suited the colour red much more than anyone else he knew, and much more than the voice thought it suited him.
A conversation played between the three, one that he could almost hear, could almost interject in, if only he would close his eyes, if only he would just listen-
But then an even more annoying voice echoed through his mind, blue as a lightning flash and somehow more irritating to be around.
"Master, Master! Are you okay!?"
He groaned. He wished he wasn't. He wanted to listen more. To talk more.
"Ugh... yeah. Yeah, just peachy."
But, he couldn't. He knew he couldn't. He bid farewell to the hazy figures once more, sitting upright and letting the sky fade from his view.
"Well, good! Y'know Master, if something like this kept you down, you'd be absolutely bullied down at the station! Maybe I should spread this recording around, just to give everyone a laugh..."
"You better not! And, don't you have to hand in recordings anyways? What's the threat here...?"
"Well Master, this super cute cyber girl only has to give in recordings related to cases. Something a bit more personal, though, like a certain leg folder..."
"Alright, I'm up, I'm up!"
As he let that now familiar blue voice fill his head, he stood, holding his Evolver firmly. God knows she would have given him shit for dropping her gun. Even if he tried to placate her in Shintaro's place, Shintaro would have to hide behind her and silently plead before he would be saved from any cruel and unusual punishments.
But, they'e not here.
Instead, he let his head fill with that blue voice. Instead, he thought of that old man with a voice like burnt orange. Instead, he thought of those bratty kids he helped take care of, an annoying orange, a painfully relatable cyan, and a deeply irritating magenta. Instead, he thought of those he might meet again, a kind green, a confident purple, a conniving black, a curious pink, a quiet lime.
Even if he might wish to disappear, he knows that even he has a place in the world. Even he has a place among others. So he'll stay. To protect that sort of peace he has reluctantly come to love.
He brings his Evolver up, and prepares to fight once more.
"Let's go, Ene."
"Of course, Master!"
Re: describe the female character or anvil falls on thee
Vent about AnXiEtY DisOrDeR under cut
Not rereading that so there may be stupid autocorrect typos
There was a time i made only female characters and struggled to make male ones. All of them had different personalities, as good as a 10 year old could make them. Moved on to making male and non-binary (not realizing they're non-binary yet) a whole lot later.
My problem here is that, while there are female mcyts i like... I'm just not into them as much as Etho and Bdubs. It goes for literally every other mcyt as well. In my dsmp era, there just weren't creators that caught my interest; i really liked Aimsey and Crumb, but i could not for the life of me stay on stream for as long as Tubbo's streams, and after a while i stopped forcing myself because what fun is it, forcing yourself to watch a steamer for some sense of moral goodness? If anything, i think watching a female streamer for the sake of watching a female streamer is actually worse than being honest in saying "there just aren't any that i enjoy" cuz it's true that there are less of them, and/or they are less popular, so you're less likely to come across one you like.
Hermitcraft/Life Series/Empires/whatever is the first time there are female mcyts that i can confidently say i enjoy a lot. Pearl, Cleo and Shelby in particular are my faves. But i watch each of them fairly casually. I probably couldn't write an in-depth analysis of their character as well as i could ethubs. But that sort of goes for literally everyone else on those servers. The post doesn't talk about an analysis, i know, but when harsh wording like this comes up... Not only is it the situation where you're asked for something, and you immediately forget everything about it, it's also like being backed into a corner and forced to answer calmly. Oh AND a "don't think about X" situation where you're bound to think about X.
The post originally doesn't talk about mcyt tho. It's about characters. Last time i was fully into written characters was Kagepro, where admittedly i was also into 2 guys that i shipped the hell out of, to the point of shoving everyone else in the background. I could still write them fairly well - helps that there aren't real people behind them whose decisions often contradict, but also I'd say they're pretty simple characters once you break then down (i could talk a lot about kagepro). I particularly liked writing Ene for how much of a troll she is. Being nerdy about games and technology certainly helped.
Lastly, there's Winx which I am. Sort of? Into rn? Where all 6 of the main characters are girls and the male characters, each of their boyfriends (yeah all of them conveniently have boyfriends) are the one-dimensional guys with very little going in terms of their stories and personalities. But In Winx, their characters are very typical, so it's easy to describe them. All of them can be described as "she's A and B, but also C and D" They're not bad characters, they're certainly not one-dimensional, but they are very simple.
So, what do i want to say with this? I guess this could be called sort of a vent. The deal with those kinds of posts is that i know they address a problem that exists. I know they're targeted at a specific type of person that exists. I know it's likely a rhetorical question just to bring to light how female characters are often treated. But this kind of post also makes me start looking within myself, even when i know I'm ok with writing female characters, i KNOW i don't have the problem being described!!! I'm not saying I'm free from misogyny, but this problem I KNOW i don't have. It makes me feel bad though when i don't want to describe a female character or when i fall flat on any description, whether it's cuz i just don't want to or because I'm not in right mood. Idk, it's just something anxiety does where it makes me question myself.
Tldr I agree with the message of the post but i don't like it because of the way it affects me personally.
rambling rambling abt how ive been misunderstanding kagepro for a long time ramble ramble
i will be the first to admit that as an english speaking kgpr fan from ye olden days, theres like.... A Lot of kagepro media that i havent actually consumed. and a lot of my understandings from many of these character are like, not fully complete? and instead formed from various misconceptions, like for example hibihiyo, my understanding of them (poor hiyori and hellish stalker) really only came from that one novel chapter with hibiya's creepy backstory, the scraps from the manga (and even that i didnt completely read in full), and the mvs. but like the novel paints a much more comprehensive picture of the both of them (insanely good parallel to yuukei quartet while also playing the role of 'children' in the adult/child dichotomy?!) that is much much better than what it looks on the surface? especially with just how different otsukimi recital is in the novel vs the mv? and also with how ive been obsessing with seto recently, this is the first time ive ever had a seto phase in all my years of falling in and out of this franchise? and its great??
what im essentially saying, is that bc of the pacing of kagepro media releases and the added hurdle of needing translations.. i havent properly experienced kagepro ever, actually. and im very pleased that a lot of the complaints i held towards it are turning out to be misconceptions, and kagepro is actually wayyy better than i thought it was?!
yes there are still the tints of misogyny, hibiya's creepiness towards hiyori is just something you have to turn away from to enjoy this franchise unfortunately, and the female POVs have pretty stereotypical talk abt maintaining beauty and weight and whatnot, but in spite of that... it still tells a really compelling, fleshed-out story. like Every character is densely developed that its kinda insane. and its especially crazy when you realize just how young jin and sidu were when they were making this project, being overworked to the bone.
when i was a young and dumb teenager, i was really critical of this project but looking back its like.... yeah i was really fucking dumb, bc i had misunderstood massive parts of it. of course a lot of the medias werent accessible to me, and kagepro DOES sound grossly misogynistic on a surface level lol (2 guys who academically excel and 3 girls who dont like huh?), but i was jumping to conclusions when i didnt have the whole picture yet. that was dumb of me. so im really glad i gave experiencing kagepro again a chance, especially with the PLETHORA of background knowledge i have about it... woooooo!!
Ok after your whole “shintaro misogyny” “shinaya?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??????!,!,?,?,?,?,?,,,” rant (loved btw, Jin stop making ur female characters rely on male counterparts, stop making your male characters hate women or believe they are incapable challenge), how do you feel about Kanoshin. I know you have talked about it before but like, idk, talk about it again lol.
Kano “I can fix him” Shuuya? Or Kano “I can make him worse” Shuuya.
JQKEOEKDWODIEID MY WHOLE "SHINTARO MISOGYNY" AND "SHINAYA?!?!?!?!?" thats so funny i didnt MEAN for it to be a rant. i was just venting 💔 BUT THANK U FOR LOVING IT BC I FUCKING LOVE TALKING ABOUT THAT BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY BOTTLED UP FEELINGS.
man. kanoshin. i dont think they're an i can fix him or i can make him worse duo. i dont think they are together FOR each other, they're together for their personal gratification if that makes sense??? at least that's how it starts. like they rly feed off of each other's worst coping mechanisms and validate themselves thru that. but through doing this obviously cant help to get to know each other and shintaro is pathetically laughing at kano's jokes and kano is pathetically kicking his feet and twirling his hair at shintaro groaning pathetically on the ground abt god knows what (NEVER forget this novel 7 moment)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also its so funny how often in the novels shintaro just physically throws himself on the ground to start moaning and groaning whenever he gets embarrassed. he's such a fucking freak. like who the fuck does that
shintaro and kano in the seventh novel are so insanely gay it's SO fucking good. THE BIT WHERE SHINTARO SMILES AT KANO AND KANO'S LIKE HUH...THAT'S HOW HE USED TO SMILE AT AYANO... HE ALWAYS HAD THIS SPECIAL SMILE FOR HER, AND NOW HE'S SMILING JUST LIKE THAT TO ME... like GIRLLLL *EXPLODES THEM WITH MY MIND* there is seriously no heterosexual explanation for any of that. god the seventh novel is so so so good. all of them are so good i wonder why it's the least consumed kagepro media they're SUPERIOR. the novels my #1 forever i fucking love them.
anyways. im normal erm kanoshin hehehehehehehhehe i think they're both far too terrified and disgusted abt their feelings for each other to consider stuff like "i can fix him" or "i can make him worse" YOU GET WHAT IM SAYING??? on this subject specifically, shintaros self hatred comes from well everything bitch hates himself but if we're talking abt kanoshin. 1. its ayanos brother. even if we dont even look at shinaya ever being romantically involved in the first place, THIS IS WEIRD TO HIM. 2. internalized homophobia arc☝️☝️☝️🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍💯💯💯
the fic i drew fanart of a couple days ago is SO *EATS IT EATS IT EATS IT* or also a soulmate au that i havent read in aaaages and also never finished but in that one shintaro was already out as bi... sadly both are aus WHICH DOESNT make them bad, aus are awesome but the things I'd do for content like that set post str. please. *bite bite bite bite bite* srry i bring these fics up cuz hehehe internalized homophobia shintaro is so good
maybe kano would eventually set for i can make him worse but it's in an attempt of scaring shintaro away. he's like im gonna self sabotage so much to make sure he stays away from me but shintaro is STILL here looking pathetic and kano's like god DAMMIT. erm. yeah.
btw now for me being crazy (tw me using shintaro as a stress toy to make me laugh): i think post str shintaro is not AS BAD with being absolutely fucking insufferable abt his whole guys rule girls drool thing because my man's had a little time to grow (ignores shinaya chapter in the eighth novel so i don't go insane with anger). i think post str shintaro makes 1 sexist comment and the entire mekakushi dan just fucking freeze for a moment. and give him an intervention and force him to say im sorry women and ever since then is more mindful of his actions. sorry i have to be delusional and believe this or else I'd just fucking hate his ass. im sorry shinaya i love you but *burns novel 8 shinaya chapter*
shintaro's messy relationships post str is my favorite stress toy btw. relationship with ayano crumbles. starts WHATEVER THAT IS with kano. in the self hatred confusion and internalized homophobia and etc the situation causes him (situation being gf dumped me bc im selfish so i hate myself / i kissed a boy a couple times so i hate myself) he desperately turns to the next closest Female(?) Counterpart with the following thought process "Pfff well i am so straight and SO capable of holding a normal relationship and i can PROVE IT there is one person who is 1. girl enough 2. apparently okay with me being a selfish asshole and consuming all their energy with my bullshit". so the solution is obvious to shintaro. just date takane.
turns out hitting on your best friend who also happens to be ur other best friend's gf is not good for either one of these relationships. so his friendship with not only takane but also haruka crumbles too in response and its so awkward. takane bc 1. i dont feel this way abt you and I'd treat the situation sensibly if i didnt know you well enough to know you dont actually like me that way and ur just taking me for granted like youve been doing all this time which WAS pissing me off and on its way to eventually explode but THIS....??? and haruka 2. YOU JUST HIT ON MY GIRLFRIEND?? (shintaro would be like maaan why did you tell haruka. and harutaka are like *slam door on his face*) situation drives shintaro to possibly end up kissing kano again. 🤨
its so hilarious. to me at least. ITS FINE he will get over it and makeup with everyone but i like making him suffer 👍 this is what you get shintaro. What do you have to say to the women in the world. apologize. say im sorry women. say it. say it and I'll leave you alone. sorry i went a little crazy in the end
I'm gonna talk about my sekai au's body swap episode because yes
I'm only gonna talk about what I wanna because I don't wanna talk about stuff I haven't been thinking about or whatever
Sorry for uh clogging anyone's dash with tsukasa talk but here we are
So like tsukasa is prolly high key in sensory hell. Because you see he's the type of person who is almost always moving in some form but here's the thing
He has a tail
So like you don't really notice it so it just looks like he's sitting or standing still meanwhile he's doing them little tail flicks
But like
Ena (the person who he has the swap with) does not
And like tsukasa is just sitting here ridiculously over stimulated and he doesn't know why or how to stop it
Like he's never fidgeted with a pen or something. He always would look at people who fidget with stuff but like he didn't know that that was supposed to help with this kind of stuff.
So like he's just sitting here dying from just sitting still. Not to mention that uh normally his hearing is actual ass because of his hearing damage. Like he can usually hear everything fine and he hasn't really noticed that he can hear less then he used to be able to. But like now that he's Ena, a person whose like able to hear normally he's just sitting here like "why tf is there so much noise. Is this a normal thing. Why is there like so many small noises. It's not like they're loud but I can't stop focusing on them it's giving me a headache" or something like that.
ALSO Akito and An (An had a body swap with yukina who as we all know is akito's twin sister) are trying to teach him to like talk at a normal volume because he's gotten so used to having to talk super loud to actually be heard by people.
(Man off topic but I'm listening to ayano's theory of happiness rn and I am like crying. I literally cry every time this dumb song plays💀)
Also now tsukasa is actually like remembering the concept of height and that there are like short people and tall people because like it's not like he didn't know it's just that he had kinda forgotten ig. Like when you remember again just how much taller one of your online friends would be than you.
(Update I'm listening to dead and seek now. Man this song is so good. People need to give it more attention. It's prolly one of the most underrated kagepro songs I know. Like it's good come on people. Ig people just don't like ayano's dad and like fair 💀)
Oh yeah I forgot to mention but au tsukasa is uh a little guy. I mean it. So like not gonna go into his backstory here but something happened to him when he was like 11-12ish and now woopsies he's 11cm now (I always forget how many inches that was... Like bro I live in the us. WHY DON'T I REMEMBER IT IN INCHES. idk I think it was like 4.25 inches or sum).
So like he's got that little guy thing going on
Ok on to fun stuff he does during the body swap episodes.
He prolly downloads genshin on Ena's computer because he needs to do dailies. Que him having to learn how to play genshin on a normal keyboard and mouse. He'd prolly jump on stream and be all like "hey gang I think I might have possessed someone🤯. Like I didn't know I could do that😯. I didn't think I was a ghost but like guess I'm here now😜"
He prolly would be like "shi- since I'm like a hashtag girl now I should get Kiki (Akito) to make me a cosplay. This is a very important opportunity that I should use to it's fullest to wear cool clothes."
He'd prolly spend like forever in the bathroom trying our different hair styles with ena's hair. Since like when he was young he would style his sisters hair when it was at that length, but he had never styled hair on his own head when it was at that length. So like he's having fun with that meanwhile An and akito are prolly fighting for the second bathroom because they both need to do their long morning routines or whatever.
Well maybe I should rap up on my first post about this
Uh ok ok that smokes that that's a rap🤯/ij
okay after some digging i found a list deep in my drive so here are the first 10 anime i watched and if i still stand by them:
haruhi - haruhi was soooo influential to me and like my tastes in stories and storytelling styles and i still consider it my favorite anime and think the direction is fantastic. that being said. i have never been able to get more than like 10 episodes into a rewatch. i don’t know why but it just like can’t hold my attention even though i consider it a 10/10
ouran - obviously it’s a product of its time (which is part of why i don’t. Want a season 2) but yeah ofc i still stand by ouran. ouran’s gotten like a new wave of life in these past 2 years because now everyone considers it their comfort anime. i’ve watched ouran twice this year
madoka - after getting way into magical girl anime (and watching the genre devolve into Edgy Shock Factor Series Of The Month and Also Precure) i have mixed feelings on madoka. i never got into the spinoffs and barely watched rebellion so idk if this is like incorrect but my lasting impression is that madoka is mostly about having hope and that the people blaming girls for wanting things are the ones in the wrong, and then every anime studio ever for the next 10 years looked at that and said “okay but what if they ARE in the wrong. and what if they die”. i don’t think shaft could’ve known the wave of garbage they were about to inspire but it still taints my thoughts
fruits basket - i would never ever in a million years rewatch fruits basket (2001) but literally fruits basket is one of the best anime of all time. to clarify what i’m saying is that last year i rewatched what i know was my favorite episode of fruits basket (2001) when i was 13 and found it like borderline unwatchable because of everything from the visuals to the sound direction to the just general way it felt. not saying things that are goofy are inherently bad but the reboot is waaaaaay more what the manga demands. furuba was always great in concept but it’s finally also great in anime execution
sailor moon - this like shouldn’t even be on this list because who would i be to renounce Sailor Moon. but also like yeah of course sailor moon’s still good. the things that were bad about sailor moon were things that we already called bad back in 2014, and honestly, if i were to rewatch it, i probably would spring for the goofy old dic dub. sailor moon being zany and dated adds to its charm because it’s such a classic. there’s nothing to ridicule it’s just the blueprint for monster of the week magical girl anime
k-on - hell fucking yeah i still stand by k-on!! honestly i think i like k-on MORE now than i did back then!! i just rewatched it last month and i don’t even know what else i could say. top 5 anime ever made
mekakucity actors - i mean like. it should be obvious that 1) yes and 2) no. but also like at this point in my kagepro phase i’m not mad at mekakucity actors for existing. when it comes down to it i think kagepro as just a series of music videos and a vocaloid creator’s passion project is absolutely incredible and the fact that they’re hard to approach doesn’t really take away from that. in theory yeah a really incredible kagepro anime that anyone could understand without any prior knowledge that would also condense all the other bits and pieces from the different mediums into one would be incredible. but you know what you can do with mekakucity actors? laugh at it. and look at a scene of your favorite characters, then laugh more, and go watch otsukimi recital again. i love mekakucity actors the worst anime ever
baka and test - honestly i think i mostly watched this because it was one of the few on netflix at the time and i think the last time i actually rewatched it was like 2016? with maybe like two episodes in the past year. but i do have fond memories even if most of those fond memories are of being 13 and making bad jokes w my 2 friends who liked it. i’m not against a rewatch bc i do remember there being kind of a lot of heart behind the generic anime stereotype jokes (tsundere girl yandere girl boy who gets a nosebleed every 2 minutes) but it’s not high on the list
black butler - full disclosure i’m pretty sure i only made myself get into this one bc it was one of the 5 anime hot topic carried merch of so i thought i had to if i was an anime fan. i don’t really remember liking this one much and the only plotlines i can remember are where lizzie gets turned into a doll and sebastian invents curry pan. also i feel like there’s a lot of stuff that’d be called problematic that only slides under our radar bc it’s old genre anime (and the genre is yaoi). no i would not watch this again
princess tutu - yo i haven’t watched princess tutu since two thousand and fourteen and i would still recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. i just have such fond memories of it and i remember really loving that it was a darker magical girl anime that didn’t seem to hate magical girl anime (not that madoka did, but that became a defining feature of the Edgy Magical Girl Anime genre). i really should give it a rewatch it’s been way too long
