Steddie Dancing With the Stars AU (posted on twitter a little while ago)
Eddie Munson used to be in a band.
They were successful, hit the mainstream at just 19 years old, and had almost 4 years of success. But it’s been 8 years since the band fell apart, and when Eddie’s manager suggests he do something like Dancing With the Stars, he’s initially appalled. He’s a Serious Musician. He’s not about to make a fool of himself fucking about in spandex on live television. But management feed him the Exposure line; it’ll make him a household name again, remind people he exists. So he has his people say yes. Though, he’d left it late to agree to the offer, so he’s only a back up in case someone else drops out. He’ll most probably not have to even do it. Sweet. Except, a week before filming starts, someone does drop out. bumping eddie up to main cast.
Shit.
He’s paired with a guy, Steve. Has no issues with dancing with a man; they’re not the only same sex couple this season and it’s cool to see even a little progress. What he very much does have an issue with, however, is Steve Harrington. Who made no effort to hide how disappointed he was that the man Eddie’d been replacing - some ex-football player - had dropped out last minute, and how he ‘guesses Eddie’ll do.’ Steve’s pushy and demanding, and frankly a bit of a bitch. But he’s a fucking great dancer. Even Eddie can see that. they get through the first couple weeks of live shows easily enough, but it’s tough faking a smile and agreeing that, ‘Oh, i’m just so lucky to have Steve as my partner.’
The night after the third live show, when Eddie had missed a step and nearly tripped Steve, when muscles are sore and nerves are frayed, they get into it in the parking lot out back of the studio.
Eddie confronts Steve about his attitude, and Steve bites back about Eddie’s own. It takes one of the other dancers to break them apart, all up in each other’s faces as they were. They’re told to cool the fuck off, start again on Monday. Only, when monday rolls around, Steve announces their dance this week is the Argentine Tango.
Eddie’s heard of it, another couple danced it last week. lots of twisting and stepping and flicking of legs. Fucking nonsense, honestly. Steve sits Eddie down and shows him the choreo he’ll be doing, gliding over the studio floor, arms raised at the elbow, hands floating in the air in front of his chest, and Eddie finds himself itching to be clasped within those hands. He almost slaps himself at the thought. They work through the first few sequences, Eddie giving lacklustre leg-raises between Steve’s calves. after a particularly half-hearted flick, Steve tightens his grip on Eddie’s biceps and jolts him, forcing Eddie to look at him. They’re chest to chest, nose to nose, heartbeats already elevated from the movement.
"You don’t get to fuck this up for me," Steve growls, eyes boring into eddie’s with a darkness he’s not seen in the month they’ve known each other.
"You think I’m doing this on purpose? I can’t do it, it looks stupid."
"It only looks stupid if you don’t try," Steve snarls in response. "Let’s keep going." He swings the pair around to their next position. And then Steve does something that has Eddie’s jaw dropping open.
Steve drops into a crouch, sliding one leg swiftly out to the side. the angle seems impossible, and it has Eddie thinking all sorts of things about how flexible Steve is. Steve’s hands have slid down Eddie’s arms and are circling his wrists, pulling on them just enough for Steve to keep his balance.
"Okay, and then you’re going to spin me round from left to right. Can you do that?" Steve asks. But Eddie’s unable to focus on the question, because all he can see is Steve, face-height with his junk, looking up at him through those long lashes.
"Uh. Can I- gimme a second." Eddie tears himself away from Steve’s grasp, rushes out of the studio and into the foyer. He’s lightheaded with lust and his cheeks are burning.
This isn’t happening. He doesn’t like Steve. He’d been secretly planning to sabotage their performance so they’d get voted off, but now. Now he’s already craving the featherlight touch of Steve’s fingertips as he repositions Eddie’s head, as he guides his hands to the correct place. He eventually returns to the rehearsal room, having splashed some cold water over his flushed face.
Steve does the move again, and Eddie spins him, staying silent but for confirmation of Steve’s instructions. And then Steve slowly raises himself up until he’s pressed back against Eddie’s chest, leaning ever so slightly to his left to look back at Eddie’s face.
"The Argentine is about desire. Want. Lust. It’s about craving. You have to look at me like you crave me," Steve almost whispers, and Eddie’s legs feel weak. Eddie swallows, blinks hard, can’t help the way his gaze dips down to trace over Steve’s plush pink lips. When he looks back up, Steve’s eyes are wide and searching. "Yeah, like that," Steve breathes, though Eddie had been making no conscious effort to look at Steve in any way other than the way Steve makes him feel.
And if Eddie realizes now that that feeling is desire, then that’s just gonna make this whole thing a fuckton more interesting.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 1 - Lots To Take In
Tumblr media
Bit of a crossroads here with Frieren for me. I'm a huge fan of Satiou's work, and I love Madhouse when they're at their best. But I'm rather critical of some of the aspects of Frieren and it's somewhat overblown popularity. That said, there wasn't any way I was going to miss out on this insane 2 hour special episode, and it's left me with a lot to talk about! Considering the insane length of 2 hours though, I'll try to keep it as short as possible.
Alright, first things first, it's just downright beautiful. The environment art is nothing short of incredible and is a huge upgrade over the manga. People talk about Frieren's art being "beautiful", and I can agree that the characters and some of the environments can be really pretty, but I never really thought of them in the way others did. But with the anime, I see it now. The incredible beauty on display, especially with the dedication to detail and beauty with interiors and buildings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next on the list is colors, or I guess direction (?) as Saitou really likes using the sky to apply negative space for monologuing with characters. A really interesting idea that works great, but one that I was surprised to see considering how little we see of Saitou's interest/penchant for faceless characters. Of course, you'll see faceless background characters but never any of the leads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How about animation, then? It's interesting. It's not really anything that will make you marvel unless you're looking for it. The big moments are there from time to time, but by and far the focus is on providing detail for everything, even the smallest moments. A little seed rat running around, or the splash from a shot hitting a puddle. Character acting benefits from this detail a great deal, and is the most important piece in the sense of animation. Just look at this sequence. Incredibly simple, but also incredibly important as it gives viewers something to understand the characters by. It's not just the words of Himmel that are extravagant, it's his movements as well. Heiter isn't just an alcoholic, but the kind of guy that struggles to be serious. Then there's Eisen and Frieren, both of which are denoted by their distant and stiff interaction during the conversation. It's a piece that was sorely missing from the manga, the ability to connect with these characters in the present, as a viewer. To better understand their personality and get more time to feel out how they act.
Tumblr media
Time, that's a good segue. The pacing in this special is phenomenal. I will always, always talk about how newer mangaka tend to try and rush things to get their points across, attempting to speed along to deliver the punchline or reveal. Frieren is somewhat similar in that regard as the manga wastes no time going through the motions. Here though, we have 4 episodes worth of content, or a little over an hour and a half. That covers the first volume and 3 pages at most. To put it in perspective, most anime will adapt about 5 or 6 volumes of manga in a 12 episode season. At Frieren's current pace, it'll adapt 3 volumes in 12 episodes worth of content. And that's what it needs, the time and space the explore itself, to further flesh out, examine, and understand the world and its characters. A great example is Himmel's funeral. It removes the stone-faced Frieren crying scene and replaces it with something far more drawn out, something far deeper. It's not the fact that Himmel died that upsets Frieren, it's the fact that he's gone and she can't learn anything more about him. The fact that he is buried in the ground and will not be able to answer her questions or spend more time with her. It's a far stronger and more emotional depiction of the sequence than the manga.
However, not everything is as perfect as I wished for it to be. The past is the main focus of Frieren, though I suppose its intended goal is to highlight the importance of the present through the past, but the manga's approach denies that facet of the narrative. It's flashback central where it uses Frieren's previous journey to contextualize and explain everything.
And this is where one of the best changes actually happens. Heiter recants the story of finding a young Fern all alone and on her own, where he talks about how it was Himmel that inspired him to take her in. In the manga, it launches into a flashback where Heiter idealizes Himmel, but I'm so very glad that the staff behind the sequence understood the potential better. Instead of the flashback of Himmel, it focuses on Heiter's self-deprecation using Himmel as a comparison. How who he is is weaker than Himmel. And that because of that, he feels the need to try and be more like him now that he's gone. It's not "the immortal Himmel is the greatest person ever", it's "the man that was better than me in every way is gone now. I feel worse for it, so I want to follow in his footsteps.". Also, very cool little piece of direction that draws viewers towards the conclusion that Heiter himself detests his own drinking habits (and that Fern is most likely why he stopped drinking).
Tumblr media
Like I said earlier though, this is both the best change and an outlier. The further in the story continues, the more it normalizes towards the manga. The pacing is still great, but the flashbacks increase in frequency and duration past this point. Which is disappointing because of what the past is.
It's the past. It's immutable, impossible to change or experience once more. It's ever distant and fleeting, but equally so close and memorable. The amount of flashbacks ruins the delicacy of that past. It's no longer something lost, no longer something that cannot be seen again. And it feels like a waste. What's the point in the past being the past if it's featured so often in the present?
Perhaps the most frustrating example comes from episode 3 where Frieren and Fern are having a fancy dinner and musing over what to choose for dessert. Fern makes an assumption that Himmel had made in the past, so we launch into a flashback about Frieren not knowing people. The sentiment behind the story is valid and important, but the execution is painful.
The words overlap, the sentiment and importance does as well. Why then, would you not explore the potential of layering past over present to have Frieren address Fern as well as Himmel to show how she's growing from her past and current experiences?
To summarize in broad terms, the inclusion of the past isn't bold enough. It's plain, and that plainness is, well, plain to see. It drags things down and weighs on viewers and the flow of the story (not to be confused with pace).
And that's where I end my commentary. Madhouse and Saitou are doing some truly incredible visual work, and showing they have the potential and ability to take the manga and make everything better. However, at times they lack the boldness and confidence to tackle some tougher concepts. We've got a whole lot of time with this series though so I'm very excited to see what they attempt to do with it.

attack on titan's ending is just. so so stupid.
as of writing this, i have calmed down from my fury after witnessing the astronomical bullshit also known as season 4 and Especially the two movies at the end. But clearly not enough because the sheer betrayal i feel pierces through my heart and it. hurts. why did the author do this? we had such a good relationship... attack on titan is such an old anime and so mainstream that everyone and their mother watched it. i just hadn't watched it fully so i thought to
rewatch from the very start and experience what once was a 10/10 unironic masterpiece of fiction that... made me discover and dive deep into the anime world as a newbie. as an irl newbie too i literally was 8 years old ( a bit Young to watch extreme death and murder but god did i love it. it was new and unique and it felt real unlike anything else i watched at that time. and also, ive always been edgy )
i just. can't explain the sheer greatness of the first 3 seasons even if i wanted too. the thing is the anime IS too painfully real and it's such a great story with a greater idea and it.. was apparent that the author knew what he was doing. that he was writing the story with a purpose.
in season 3 i genuinely wailed when THE EVENT happened where i hadn't cried that much in easily 5 years or more. It was dramatic and tense and horrible and yet. it was for a great cause.
AND THEN THE BULLSHIT OF SEASON 4 HAPPENS
HOW
COULD SOMEONE RUIN THEIR BELOVED MANGA OF 10 YEARS THAT HIT WORLD WIDE FAME SO EASILY AND WITH SO MUCH CONFIDENCE.
I GENIUNELY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT KIND OF ACID THE AUTHOR TOOK. The characters felt so weird and bad and ESPECIALLY ARMIN WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HIM other than the obvious he geniunely wasn't any more useful than a stone on the street or a sack of potatoes. no, seriously what. after the events of season 3 and him becoming such a big favourite character to me he just became... while we are on that topic how the hell did every interaction he had with eren especially in tense moments go so hard and in the final movie it was... worse than the shittiest fanfiction you could imagine. i geniunely was just laughing at it it was so absurd this is the exact type of things i see on wattpad and yet it is CANON? AND THE ENDING OF A DECADE OLD SERIES THAT EVERYONE GREW UP WITH.
I Absolutely did like eren killing every non eldian however things got a bit annoying. I really didnt like his personality after its shift when he touched historia's hand and having finished the anime i Understand what happened but it left a really sore taste in my mouth. and the ending speech where he came true about why he was acting like that just made me cringe. i missed the old eren. and old armin. :"( however, admittedly
i like that mikasa FINALLY got some semblance of personality in season 4. she didnt scream EREEEEEEH every 5 seconds and Actually stopped mentioning him 24/7 and only existing by his side, actually, a big reason i didnt like that season was bc eren was ?? ? ? god knows where most of the time but the positive of that is that mikasa has... independent moments. ikr. i couldnt believe my mind.
actually after writing this i feel alot calmer, just hours ago i wanted to strangle the author with my bare hands but it is whatever i guess. i predicted this anyways because the first 3 seasons where bombshells upon bombshells and literally everything was perfect. and nothing is perfect and all humans are a proud of a sin and inherently could never rise that far. so it is fine, the author did good for 11 years without breaks to always work on the manga. he couldn't have done everything after all.
i miss the old attack on titan, and i sort of wish i hadn't finished it and instead left it as this perfect anime that was all sparkly and cool and emotional and well written but... alas. :(
somehow, the anime was better when they still remained inside the walls. im not even sure what should've happened, but it definitely wasn't that.

Minions: Rise of Gru comparison to the Vanishing of Will Byers
The Comparison Nobody Asked For But Shall Receive. This is one of the most cursed things I will ever write. Will Contain Minions: Rise of Gru Spoilers.
First and Foremost: Our Characters
Gru resembles Will Byers in Minions: Rise of Gru. He goes missing/was kidnapped(reminds me of the will-was-kidnapped-by-vecna-theories).
Kevin the Minion: Is Mike Wheeler. He’s the leader of the other minions in the movie and they seem to follow what he tells them.
Stuart the Minion: Lucas Sinclair. Often gets into fights with Kevin(Mike). Despite following Kevin(Mike) he also sort of does his own thing.
Bob the Minion: Dustin Henderson. He’s just amazing and everyone likes him. He’s the calm between Kevin(Mike) and Stuart(Lucas).
Otto the Minion: Eleven. While this one kind of hurts to say- it’s true. Otto is on a different arc from everybody else, and while he’s a part of the group, he’s fixing his own problems. Also sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other minions.
(/j) Gru’s Mom: Ted Wheeler. She/He does not give a singular f/// the whole time.
Secondly: the Plot
Gru(Will) goes missing. Kevin, Stuart, and Bob go to find him. Kevin at first seems to lash out at the other minions as if “I’m the only one who cares about Will!” -- I feel like Kevin at one point said something among the lines “I’m the only one who cares about Gru” which directly parallels the line mentioned previously.
Otto is on his own plot. This is kind of a stretch but, it connects to Eleven remaining a part of the party but getting separated in Season 4 to fix her powers. Otto’s gone to find the gem with powers that he lost, to fix his mistake.
Lmao that's really it but it’s more than expected from the Minions movie. There’s probably more but it’s been 2-3 weeks since I’ve seen it so I forgot some of it. Lemme know in the comments if y’all picked up any other things or just have thoughts on whatever this post is.

Lauren Jackson is back.
The most decorated Australian basketballer in history, at age 42, is adding another chapter to her incomparable story, defying the odds to return to the court with the Southside Flyers in the WNBL.
In a massive boost for the sport that will reverberate all over the world, Jackson has not only recovered from the mental and physical trauma of dual-major surgeries but says she is fitter and stronger than when she returned to the international arena to help guide the Opals to a bronze medal at last year’s FIBA World Cup in Sydney.
“Yep, I’m back,” Jackson, echoing another ‘GOAT’ of the sport, Michael Jordan, told Code Sports.
“I don’t think anyone thought I would come back — but I still thought I could play again.
“The rehab went really, really well, I was back on court a couple of months ago and it just got to a point where, physically, I don’t think I’ve felt better than this, at least in the last five or six years.
“I didn’t want to be left wondering how I would feel in 10 years time if I looked back and I didn’t play this season, knowing that I was fit and able.
“I know it’s my last shot. One more year.”
Following last year’s World Cup glory, Jackson joined Southside and quietly played through the pain of a Lisfranc fracture in her left foot.
In February, she ruptured her right Achilles tendon, a minute into the Flyers’ clash with Sydney Flames in front of a record WNBL crowd.
The 7681 at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena were silenced as the three-time WNBA MVP fought back tears as she hobbled to the Southside, souring what was to be one of the biggest celebrations of the WNBL ever.
Many thought it was over but the four-time Olympic medallist, even then, refused to close the door — she still felt fit and didn’t want to end as she did in 2016 when knee issues forced her into premature retirement.
“It’s really hard to close the door after everything that I’ve been through,” she said.
“It was so traumatic, just going through the break and then the Achilles, I was in so much pain, but I thought ‘look I’m going to get fit, I’m going to stay fit’, my mind was in a place where it didn’t matter if I played or not.
“Everyone was asking me ‘are you going to do it?’
“Even my best friends and my family will tell you I really didn’t know for sure until only recently.”
TURNING POINT IN AN ‘UNBELIEVABLE RECOVERY’
Jackson’s initial goal when she went under the knife was to recover enough — and in time — for a farewell tour with her hometown club Albury-Wodonga, which plays on a court named for her in NBL1 East, next year.
But, as rehab progressed, so did the once remote prospect of a WNBL return. A turning point on the court, coupled with a recovery that left her surgeon floored, helped solidify Jackson’s decision.
“The injuries were pretty nasty and I didn’t think I would get to a point where I’d be ready to play before the WNBL season,” Jackson said.
“Had surgery in February, started my rehab pretty intensely in April and was running by early May.
“It was so painful, and I was pulling up sore but, in June, I turned a corner.
“I’ve tested it massively, the last two months, running with a weighted vest every day and just putting as much load through the Achilles to make sure my body’s ready to do it again.
“When I went back and saw my surgeon a couple of weeks ago, he said ‘I honestly never thought I would see you the way you’ve recovered, it has just blown me away. As a 42-year-old, this is unbelievable’.
“It’s been a bit of a journey, for sure.”
A basketball journey, for Jackson and the nation, still to reach its final destination.
FAMILY FIRST
The key to it all, was Southside’s support in helping Jackson relocate to Melbourne to have her two beloved boys Harry, 6, and Lenny, 4, by her side.
“It was hard last year because they weren’t with me and we were coming back and forth from Albury. I can tell you right now there were times I was so sad, I missed them desperately and it would have been too hard to do it again,” Jackson said.
“The club has been so supportive and we’re in the process of moving to Melbourne at the moment, I’ve been down with the team and running some camps.
“I love that my children get to be around a female basketball team, they’re going to get so much out of it and being in a team environment is so important for them, especially at their age.”
Harry’s a chip off the old block, possessing a similar attitude to mum and a heavy interest in the sport that made her an icon.
“Harry’s really into it, I’ve got him in a team down in Melbourne over summer, which is fun,” she said.
“He’s probably still a little bit too young but he loves it, watches NBA all the time, loves the WNBA as well, loves the women’s game, loves everything about the sport.”
A Jackson in the NBL, Boomers or NBA is a distant dream, right now, but a young Lauren Jackson dared to dream, so why can’t we?

whats ur favorite pokemon gen??
thats gotta be the third one! and i know its a cliché to have the first gen you played be your favorite, but what can i say, that developing brain really be susceptible now here's my actual reasons
it is one of my favorite gens competitively, i really enjoy gens 1 and 2's respective metas, but more-so from a distance, they're really volatile and the pacing is not my thing gen 3 retains the classic feel {although the physical/special split WAS a blessing} and has some really interesting and cute stuff going for it and its just before gen 4 with its heatrans, before gen 5 with its eternal weather wars and its genies and its ferrothorns {yes i know sandstorm reigns supreme in gen 3 but thats just another layer of complexity} gotta say tho, gen 6 is when i really got into competitive and ill always have a soft spot for it, i didnt really play gen 8 but i found the last season of vgc interesting, from a distance, and of course im all about the current meta another reason is both kanto and hoenn have what i feel are the best designed regions, in term of how the player progresses through them, there's interesting ideas there that were never really revisited and that were sorely missed in gens 5 to 8 {with credit due to gen 5's and some of 6's route design} i love how the world of kanto worked as a blueprint for the whole franchise and the way hoenn's land and people all work towards furthering its themes, i love secret bases the most gen 3 also has the majority of my favorite pokemon in it, and i'll admit that susceptibility also played a factor there shoutouts to marshtomp and gardevoir and minun and latias and torkoal and nincada and snorunt my babies <3 lots of people {rightfully} complain about how to catch them all you needed to have ALL of the games, including colosseum the lack of gen 2 pokemon is noticeable, but as someone who only knew of the gen 1 anime and of the gen 3 games at the time, that only worked to mystify them in my eyes, and the few chances that there were to actually find them {the sevii islands in frlg and the expansion to the safari zone in emerald} felt all the more special i read on a magazine about how you could get a johto starter in emerald if you completed the regional dex and i fell in love with chikorita then and there i had to find out about celebi even existing and that was mind-blowing lastly, emerald's battle frontier is still the best one idc

I'm Season 1 Scott literally told Allison that he used to live with his dad in another city before moving to Beacon Hills with Melissa, and that his worst childhood memory was when his parents were divorcing. Which means that Rafael didn't actually disappear from Scott's life, and that he and Scott used to live together.
What type of silly gotcha game is this?
Neither of your points contradicts my meta in the slightest. If you don't think a parent can be neglectful and uninvolved in a child's life while they're living in the same house, your life experiences are sorely limited.
I never said that Scott didn't regret his father not being in his life, and neither did anyone else. The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. Scott can resent that his father wasn't there and still care about his father, which he aptly demonstrated. If his parents divorced when Scott was six or seven or eight, Scott is sixteen when the show starts. That could be half of Scott's life where his father wasn't present.
How long did Scott live with his father? We don't know. Scott doesn't actually give a duration in Pack Mentality (1x03). Considering the multiple other scenes where Rafael is described as neglectful, I don't think it was very long. Let's look at some other scenes.
Here's one from The Tell (1x05):
Harris: Sorry. Allow me to clarify. I mean the lack of a male authority figure.
Melissa: Oh. Well, trust me, we're much better off without him in the picture.
It seems that Melissa and Adrian Harris are convinced that Rafael is not in Scott's life.
Here's one from Restraint (2x08):
Melissa: Yeah. Is this about your father? It is, isn't it? Okay, you know what, um - We'll talk about this at home. I'm gonna go get the car.
I doubt that Melissa would have suspected that Scott's relationship with his father was at the root of his juvenile delinquency if they went to ball games every other weekend. Or the fact that Stiles announcement that Rafael is so important it's the last thing that Stiles says to Scott before they go under the ice in Alpha Pact (3x11):
Stiles: By the way, if I don't make it back and you do, you should probably know something. Your dad's in town.
But I'm sure that Scott's father being in town is no big deal. And let's look at the scenes where they actually talk about Rafael being neglectful. What about that time in Silverfinger (3x17) where Scott is surprised that Rafael still has a key to his house and accuses him of getting his hair color from Rafael and that's all he got. Or maybe you can actually listen to Scott in Insatiable (3x23):
Scott: So... See you at graduation. Or whenever you decide to show up again.
Do you still need more? Because there's more! I mean, how do you square your belief "Which means that Rafael didn't actually disappear from Scott's life" with what Melissa says in the Divine Move (3x12):
Melissa: Seriously? Raf, you say that you want a relationship with your son. You can't just bail after one fight.
Or maybe Rafael's own words during Season 4's Time of Death (4x08)?
Agent McCall: Unfortunately, I'm going to have to drive back to San Francisco tonight. I'll need to do a review at the field office. But I'll be back as soon as I can. I might have to miss the first game of the season.
Scott: It's no big deal.
Agent McCall: It is to me. I'm keeping my promises this time
It's obvious to even the most casual observer that neither Scott nor Melissa nor Rafael nor the writers believe that Rafael has fulfilled his duties as a father. It's a significant plot line. In fact, one of the few plot lines that gives us insight into Scott's character without the supernatural being involved.
So why is there such hostility in the fandom to the idea that Rafael McCall was a neglectful father who wasn't present in Scott's life the way he should have been?
That question was rhetorical. I've been in the fandom long enough to understand that the fandom can't afford to acknowledge anything that happens to Scott or any problems in his life because their primary weapon in the war to de-center him as the lead protagonist of his own show is by arguing that he comes by his heroics cheaply. That he's a pampered White Knight who looks down on Stiles and Derek and Peter and any fandom favorite because he can't really understand the tragedies that they exist under. It's why they think that the only thing that happened to Scott after being bit was he magically got good at lacrosse and his asthma disappeared, pretending the terror of being hunted, fear of turning into a murderous monster, horror as his own body transforms into something unrecognizable and constant mental violation didn't actually happen. They can't try to center poor traumatized secondary characters if they don't deny Scott's experiences, even if it comes down to a neglectful father.
Especially in the light of Teen Wolf's theme that what is done to you doesn't give you the right to do things to others. I've watched fandom try to justify Peter's murder of Laura by saying she 'abandoned him' without even a single line spoken in the show, so it's necessary for them to insist that no one hurt Scott ever, because, by pursuing their own logic, Scott could have done much more.
It's tiresome.

Season previews: Port Adelaide (9th)
Last season: 3rd (17 wins, 6 losses, 112.7%), 6th after finals Notable ins: Esava Ratugolea (Geelong), Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (Essendon), Ivan Soldo (Richmond) Notable outs: Xavier Duursma (Essendon), Tom Jonas (retired), Scott Lycett (retired)
The real deal or pretenders? It is a query that has increasingly loomed large over Ken Hinkley's tenure as Port Adelaide coach. A Rorscach test, its appearance maybe telling you something about your football psychology. On the one hand, the Power have mostly been a good to very good side under Hinkley and never been a terrible one. Since 2013 their lowest finish on the ladder has been 11th place, they boast a win rate of 60.6%, have made the finals six times and a preliminary final three times. A few clubs would probably kill right now for even one season as good as Hinkley's worst effort. On the other hand, Port are in the business of winning premierships and they have lost all of those preliminary finals. No coach in VFL/AFL history has gone so long without a Grand Final appearance.
Tumblr media
Hinkley looked at long odds to keep his job entering last season. Supporters' appreciation for his lifting them out of the doldrums a decade ago had expired and they were beyond restless after missing the eight in 2022. The president, David Koch, waffled on his chances of getting a new deal. An agreement was reached between club and coach where his contract status, due to expire at the end of the year, would not be reviewed until August. This would force a decision before finals so was a curious compromise given the major frustration with Hinkley was a lack of results in September. Did the board, expecting another lowly finish but wanting to avoid a bitter falling out, set a date that would allow them to respectfully end Hinkley's tenure only after being seen to give him a fighting chance? If they did, they didn't count on him to flip the script. Hinkley's men rattled off 13 straight wins from rounds 4-17 and when D-Day arrived on August 1st, they were sitting second on the ladder. Checkmate, 'Kochie' - Hinkley was given a two-year contract extension.
Losses to Brisbane and GWS in the finals however meant a straight-sets exit and one that probably matched their reality, a step off the pace amongst the other also-rans. It gave Port Adelaide some solace that it was the next generation in Zak Butters, Connor Rozee and Jason Corne-Francis consistently leading the way. That trio will be their engine room for the next decade but the Power were often too reliant on them and experienced veterans did not help shoulder the load. The likes of Lycett, Ollie Wines, Travis Boak, Trent McKenzie and Charlie Dixon were all looking tired, sore and old by September. Their captain, Tom Jonas, wasn't there at all having been relegated to the SANFL mid-season.
Port Adelaide attacked the trade period to try and address some of these problems. Their midfield needed someone to tap it to them with Lycett retiring and they targeted Soldo, a solid ruckman who struggled for opportunity at Richmond, and Jordon Sweet as back-up. There are questions over whether Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher are the right fit for Port Adelaide's backline alongside Aliir but their recruitment at least means 191cm McKenzie won't again be left manning the Tom Hawkins of the world. Ratugolea has size, strength and athleticism but can be a liability to teammates as he crashes packs to try and mark or spoil with limited situational awareness. Zerk-Thatcher conceded 53 goals in 2023, the most of any defender in the AFL, and Essendon were ultimately comfortable losing him. Port Adelaide did not add to their forward line but would be looking for Todd Marshall and Ollie Lord to take the next steps in their respective development.
The hope at Alberton is that they can wring one more good year out of Boak, Dixon and Wines just as their young guns continue to rise and take the mantle. If their form from around mid-July through the end of the season is any indication, the timing for this is not quite right. The immediate pressure is off Hinkley with his extension but Josh Carr waits in the wings, seemingly brought to Port under an informal succession plan. It's all smiles between the two for now but this has gone south quickly elsewhere. When egos collide and the coaches disagree, the players are torn - do you listen to the guy that might be on his way out the door or the one next in line to succeed him? Getting off to a good start will be crucial, their first five games all winnable playing West Coast, Melbourne, Essendon and Fremantle at home and Richmond away. But start the season like they finished the last one and the pressure rises quickly again.

NEW YORK -- Among the most notable aspects of Joey Lucchesi's final outing was the fact that he nearly didn’t make it. Lucchesi was in a minor accident on Tuesday night, when -- as the left-hander described it -- another vehicle collided with his Uber while fleeing from the police on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens. Sitting on the right side of the Uber as he commuted home from Citi Field, Lucchesi watched the car smash into the left, unoccupied side. The car hit multiple other vehicles, Lucchesi said, before officers managed to arrest its driver. As for Lucchesi, he escaped with a bit of back soreness, but not enough to prevent him from making his final start of the season. The left-hander wound up firing six-plus strong innings in an 11-2 win over the Marlins in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Citi Field on Wednesday afternoon. “I didn’t want to miss my last start,” Lucchesi said. After the accident, Lucchesi and his family caught a ride with teammate Tylor Megill, who had been driving nearby and saw the scene unfold. “It was pretty wild,” Lucchesi said. “A lot of adrenaline out of nowhere.” The accident provided an unexpected leadup to what became another stellar start for Lucchesi. Making his ninth outing of the year and third since a late-season recall to the Majors, Lucchesi retired seven of the first eight batters he faced en route to six scoreless innings. He then opened the seventh by allowing consecutive doubles, resulting in two earned runs on his line. Overall, Lucchesi finished his season with a 4-0 record and 2.89 ERA. He fared far better in the Majors than the Minors -- a quirk he attributes to his struggles adapting to the Automated Ball-Strike system at Triple-A. Lucchesi’s performance should be enough for him to remain part of the organization’s plans in the future. Arbitration-eligible for the final time, Lucchesi is likely due a small raise over the $1.15 million he made this season. The Mets figure to consider that a reasonable price for a piece of rotation depth. “It’s been an up-and-down year for me,” Lucchesi said. “Coming back from Tommy John, I felt like I had something to prove to the world, to myself. I wanted to show people I still belong here, and I feel like I made that case.”

Minnesota Twins-Chicago White Sox Series Preview
5.2.23-Joe Ryan RHP (5-0) 2.81 ERA Vs. Michael Kopech RHP (0-3) 7.01 ERA
5.3.23-Dylan Cease RHP (2-1) 4.15 ERA
5.4.23-Pablo Lopez RHP (2-2) 4.00 ERA Vs. Lucas Giolito RHP (1-2) 4.15 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins had a great month of April with a (17-12) record. The offense is heating up as the team holds a 3.5 game lead in the American League Central. They head out on a six-game road trip to Chicago and Cleveland. Byron Buxton was hot on the homestand by hitting .297 with four doubles, five homers, and twelve RBI. The team activated Alex Kirilloff and optioned him to St. Paul. Kyle Farmer should be going on a rehab assignment with the Saints this week. Kenta Maeda will miss some time with a right triceps strain and Tyler Mahle will be out a month or longer with a sore elbow. Bailey Ober took over Kenta Maeda’s spot in the rotation and Louie Varland might get called up to replace Mahle. Trevor Megill was traded to the Brewers for cash last weekend. Jorge Lopez has thrown twelve scoreless innings to start the season. The Twins need a fifth reliever to emerge and not be so reliant on Duran, Lopez, Jax, and Thielbar. Brock Stewart could be that guy with four strikeout in three innings. Josh Winder has the stuff to do it and struggled in his first outing on Sunday.
The White Sox At A Glance- The White Sox are proving that Tony La Russa wasn’t all to blame for the terrible 2022 season. Chicago had lost ten straight games before winning the series finale against the Rays on Sunday. They are (8-21) on the season. The team should be getting help as Garrett Crochet, Hanser Alberto, and Tim Anderson are on rehab assignments. Andrew Benintendi has been the team’s most consistent hitter with a .281 average, but he hasn’t homered and has only knocked in four. Jake Burger leads the team with seven homers. The offense is averaging over four runs per game, which is decent. The starting pitching has been bad with a 5.36 ERA, which is 25th in the Majors. Lance Lynn has a 7.71 ERA, Michael Kopech has an ERA over 7.00, and Dylan Cease gave up seven runs in his last outing. The bullpen has been even worse with a 6.86 ERA, which is worst in MLB. Jake Diekman, Reynaldo Lopez, and Aaron Bummer have been bad. Gregory Santos has a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings.
What To Watch For- The Twins took two of three from the White Sox at Target Field in mid-April. The Sox were (5-4) against the Twins in Chicago last year. Joe Ryan gave up three runs in four innings in his only start against the Sox. Pablo Lopez started out slow, but threw 7 2/3 innings and struck out ten White Sox in his only outing against the South Siders. Michael Kopech is (2-1) with a 3.74 ERA in eight games versus the Twins. Dylan Cease is (4-4) with a 4.83 ERA in ten games against the Twins. Max Kepler has three career homers off Cease. Lucas Giolito is (8-9) with a 4.03 ERA in twenty-one games against the Twins. Max Kepler has three homers off Giolito and Michael Taylor has taken him deep twice. It sounds like Louie Varland will get the start on Wednesday night. The Twins need to clean up on a down White Sox team this week.

Why do I Need A Liver Cleanse? The Answers Here
Tumblr media
Are you feeling sluggish and tired all the time? Perhaps you’re getting more heartburn and stomach pain in what seems like all of the sudden. Are you feeling congested have allergies & sinuses bothering you this season? So If You're Asking Yourself: Why Do I Need A Liver Cleanse? A Liver Cleanse can help you detox, remove toxins, purge liver deposits and stones.   Clues You Need A Liver Cleanse Your liver is calling out for help through acid reflux/heartburn, stomach pain, fatigue, sluggishness, hormonal imbalance, high blood pressure, bloating and excess gas, allergies and sinus irritations. Other symptoms such as anxiety/panic attacks are also symptoms, read more about panic attacks here.  There are many more links to disease and the liver. If you're interested in treating the root cause of these diseases and illness, then I recommend reading the Liver Rescue by Anthony William. You'll get so much information it's crazy. You'll reference it all the time. He recommends certain supplements to help with specific diseases/illnesses. My husband and I both take supplements and herbals recommended in the book.  During the cleanse we stopped all supplements and vitamins and started again after we finished it. I have noticed a difference. I've also posted To Detox Or Not To Detox where you can learn more about the Liver, Colon and Harmful Organism Cleanse. Benefits of a Liver Cleanse - Improves Digestion - Improves liver function - Boosts energy - Feel lighter - Reduces Bloating and Gas - Clear brain fog CLEANSE DIET It is a five day cleanse or even six days if you include the day after the flush.  The liver cleanse kit comes with instructions, you'll need this, that spells out every step of the cleanse.   Even what you should eat during this time. You'll eat clean and avoid dairy, alcohol, sodas, and gluten as is recommended.  It's also suggested to purchase organic or locally grown foods, however, we bought our food from our regular grocery store which isn't organic or locally grown. Following the recommended diet will bring even better results, however, I don’t think we missed out on too much.   LIVER CLEANSE Day 1 Preface this that I started feeling a little off last night.  It was Easter Sunday, and I began to feel a bit sore throat coming on.  We were all sitting outside most of the day so it could very well be a sinus drainage issue, but I feel it today too.  I’ve started the day with green tea to kick the sore throat. I followed the Liver Cleanse instructions throughout the day and ate clean.  I also did my HIIT workout and could feel my sore throat or possibly cold being sweat out. Could the liver cleanse drink be helping, quite possibly? The drink itself isn’t that bad.  If you drink kombucha it’s a little like that but not as strong.  My husband, on the other hand, thinks it's horrible and has to chase it down.  LOL, I think for someone who isn’t used to drinking kombucha, aloe vera juice or other “weird” drinks its probably a shock to drink something that has ACV in it.   Day 2 I felt cold and fatigued all day until about 2:30 in the afternoon.  I pretty much just laid around because I felt like I was getting a cold. Then around 2:30 all of a sudden I was just more alert and felt better.  Even had some energy to burn. I took my next dosage of Oxy-Powder and Latero Flora and went to bed. I did find that I was up 3-4 times during the night having to rush to the bathroom.  Then I was awake and would fall asleep only to wake up again to go to the bathroom. The cleanse is definitely working without a doubt. My husband, on the other hand, did not feel well at all this morning and said he was up all night because he felt nauseous, had a headache and was even sweating.   He was experiencing detox side effects. The nausea was so bad that he was resisting taking dopamine. He succeeded and didn’t succumb to that. He normally wakes up every morning to workout but this morning he was still asleep, so I knew something was up.  I asked if he was ok and he said he felt sick. I explained all the toxins are getting stirred up and trying to come out. Its a normal side effect of doing a detox/cleanse, especially if this is your very first cleanse or detox ever.   Day 3 My husband woke up feeling better and had a good night’s sleep.  For the most part, so did I. My 3-year-old makes it a little hard to sleep without interruption due to her sleeping right on my shoulder with a leg wrapped around my stomach.  I definitely feel lighter today and less bloated and tight. We drank the liver cleanse and ACV drink. But at this point, it’s getting boring and I’m trying to stay focused.  The drink doesn’t bother me but I miss my tea. I’ve kept myself occupied and feel energetic. Day 4 Today I feel much better and clear-headed.  I have a little bit of a headache this afternoon but otherwise, I feel good.  I have energy and have only gone to the bathroom a few times. My brain fog has lifted and I'm clear-minded. Yay!   Feeling these benefits is what will keep you on track and stick to the rest of the cleanse. Maybe even do another one in the future. My husband has already sworn that he will not do this again. Mainly, because of the taste of the liver cleanse/ACV drink.  I think he’ll feel the benefits after it's over and be open to it again. We’ll see. My husband, on the other hand, said everything finally kicked in this morning at 5 am.  So maybe he's a little more toxic than me since it took this long to feel any of the actual cleansing part.  Nevertheless, I’m just thankful he’s been open enough to give this a try after years of me asking him to try.   Day 4 is the last day you drink the liver cleanse and ACV drinks.  Tomorrow will be light eating prepping for the Flush Day. Having done this cleanse twice before I am not looking forward to this part but I will do it, of course. At this point, neither one of us is having any cravings for anything.  I’m not really hungry either today. Day 5 This is the big day, Flush day.  Need I say more, this is exactly what it says. We’ve already been experiencing flush like symptoms all week from Oxy-powder and Later-Flora.  Yes, it will happen it's unavoidable its part of the elimination of toxins. And that is what we are going for here. This may be the day you ask yourself why do I need a liver cleanse? Cause you're not sure why you're this BUT don't forget the benefits! This is the home stretch you can finish this! The day itself was a regular day but with a restricted eating plan.  My energy levels are up and I feel clear-minded. You will not take Oxy-powder and later-flora on this night.  Instead, you will drink Epsom salt, yup it’s lovely (that’s sarcasm) and then olive oil, equally as tasty (sarcasm again). I’m not going to lie. It wasn't easy-drinking Epsom salt and olive oil straight up. (This is where I ask myself that question why do I need a liver cleanse?) I struggled with getting down the Epsom salt mix, which is a laxative in case you are wondering WTH, and had to keep myself from gagging.  My husband tried to talk to me right after drinking this, and I had to say don’t talk to me, I’m trying to keep this down. Then shortly after, you take the olive oil shot.  You can down all 6 oz as a shot or mix it with some freshly squeezed orange juice. I opted to not shoot it like some badass but rather mix it with OJ and do my best to get it down slowly. I got it down, it wasn’t too bad with OJ and I kept telling myself, I’m going to feel so much better after this.  Do it. I did.   How Did My Husband Do, You May Ask? After all, I’ve done this cleanse 3 times now, and I still struggle with getting down the Epsom salt drink and olive oil.  But I do it every time and don’t use that as a reason to not do it. So surely, my husband is going to be struggling with this too. I’m going to have to coach him through it. Well, my husband freakin’ threw both back like a champ. WTH! He complained all week about the ACV drinks and how that was awful but for some reason the most difficult part, for me anyway, he was like yeah no big deal.   DAY 6 While this is technically not part of the actual cleanse, it is part of the flush day aftermath.  You will take 6 Oxy-Powders when you wake up. This gets everything moving out of your liver and gallbladder.  Instructions say you may see stones being passed. You can use a throwaway strainer if you would like to catch them and see, per the instructions.  Yeah, I don’t need to go that far but some of you may. I experienced the “Flush” all day the next day.  I had to attend a party that afternoon and was ok for the most part.  Running to the bathroom as needed. My husband said he had to go to the bathroom but it wasn’t anything crazy. He was at the same party and even ate regular food. I, however, did not as I ate fruit and drank water. In no way was I going to mess up all my hard work and struggle by eating poorly the next day or days afterward.  No need to undo what had just been done. BATHROOM BREAKS This may be a concern for you especially if you work outside your home. I had the benefit of being at home this time. However, the previous two times I did it I was at work just like you. And I managed just fine.  As long as you have access to a bathroom, you’ll be fine. My husband did it while being at work all week and he managed.  So don’t let this be a deterrent to not try the cleanse. You can order it here and start your journey now.  It’s only 5 days plus the next day after the flush. Plan it over a weekend so you don’t have to worry about work bathrooms. LIVER CLEANSE RESULTS I’ve done this cleanse 3 times now and always feel better after.  If you’ve never done one or are a pro but haven’t tried this one, give it a try.  It may sound scary but the benefits far out weight the Epsom salt drink and olive oil shot. You may be wondering, if I do this how much weight will I lose. What's in it for me besides the elimination of toxins? Now, of course, I measured and weighed myself to give you all the external results from this liver cleanse.  It’s not all about the external results though we are going for internal health here. But I know this plays a role in the overall outcome. I hope this answered the question of why do I need a liver cleanse? You'll definitely get benefits of the cleanse at the very least you'll feel a little better. Read about activated charcoal and how it too can help with cleansing out some toxins. For an added benefit try grounding or earthing or dry brushing. WEIGHT LOSS Here it is, I lost 4 pounds (in 6 days), and lost a ½ inch off my waist, a ¾ inch off the smallest part of the abdomen, and a ¼ inch off my lower abdomen.  This may or may not seem like a lot to you but we are all different. These results are significant for me. I’m only 5’ so this is noticeable.   My husband lost 5 pounds during this time.  We don’t have any measurements on him; guys aren’t doing all that.  But I can visually tell that he lost weight around his upper abdomen.  He can benefit from another cleanse or two.  Still, I'm proud he gave it a try. Men if you are reading this you can do this too.  I’m still impressed that my husband did this with me.  He stuck to it even though the drinking of liver cleanse water and ACV water was a little rough.  He persevered and came out the other side lighter, feeling better. And I think eventually he’ll do another one because he’ll remember how he felt after doing the liver cleanse.  Time will tell. TAKE AWAY You may think different parts of the cleanse are harder than others.  As you can tell from both of our experiences we stuck to it and finished it. Why did we stick to it? Because we know our livers are calling out for some help.  It’s vital that we take care of our liver as it works diligently every minute of the day to keep us going strong. Your body is being inundated with toxins every day, and your liver is working hard at cleaning them out, but it’s being overwhelmed.  It’s when it becomes overloaded that you experience the symptoms above. You gotta help your body work at optimal levels.   You only get one. Try this cleanse to start in detoxing your body.  You came across this post for a reason. You're ready to begin healing and not treat the symptoms anymore. Get started! Remember that no two people are the same therefore no two people will have the same results, with anything in life. What works for one may not work another. These are my results alone. You may or may not experience the exact same thing. Listen to your body. 8/22/2019 UPDATE Global Healing Center now includes the organic olive oil and Epsom salt in the Liver Cleanse Kit. No worries about having to get anything extra for the cleanse except ACV. I wish you peace and guidance on your journey.  Take care and be well. The Liver Cleanse Kit Is: - 100% alcohol-free. - Vegan-friendly and GMO-free. - Helps eliminate foreign substances and toxins from the liver. - Made with organic and wild cultivated herbs. - Made in the USA from globally sourced ingredients using eco-friendly sustainable manufacturing. It’s so good to see Hayden Christensen finally getting some love for his portrayal of Anakin. 15 years ago, the reaction to him returning would have been very different, but now, all I see is praise and excitement. I’m happy for him.

Going through the Only Murders in the Building tag and I am reminded of exactly why weekly episodes are so much better than dropping a season all at once. Sure, I’m as impatient as the next person to see the next episode, but discussing theories and questions as the show progresses is an experience that I sorely miss.

Only Murders in the Building 2x09 thoughts (spoilers ahead)
Fucking called it! My “out there theory” turned out to be not that out there after all. Even so, I did not see that Poppy twist coming!
Still not sure if Kreps is all he seems. And the mysterious texter has yet to be identified.
The painting thing seems wrapped up and unrelated to Bunny’s murder... but then why did Bunny say “Savage” while dying?
While I’m on the fence with Oliver lying to Will, I’m glad he realised that Will is still his son even if it isn't biological. Oliver raised him, that’s what makes him his dad.
The elevator scene was great. Poor Howard.
All in all, we got quite a few answers, but there are still many questions and something tells me a couple will carry on to the next season.
Bring on the finale!

My #1 post of 2022
Just found the DVD booklet from my Doctor Who: Series 2 DVD and I am reminded just how much effort used to be put into DVDs. These days you’d be lucky to get an episode guide on the back of the DVD cover, let alone a whole booklet with beautiful images, behind the scenes photos, and a message from the producer.

Self-Care
Tumblr media
Klaus never used to take care of himself, largely because he wasn't taught that taking care of himself was something you were supposed to do. After all, when your dad locks you in a crypt overnight in order to help you harness your powers, care isn't really at the top of the to-do list.
For the longest time, his only form of self-care was drugs. Whatever was available, he'd take it because it numbed his abilities and meant he didn't have to worry about ghosts screaming at him all hours of the day and night. When he wanted to feel something, he'd turn to sex, men, women, it didn't matter because he could feel and he was being touched in a way that didn't bring harm to his general being, for the most part.
It took until his 30s to start to learn that what he thought was self-care was really self-harm and he had to take a look at himself and figure out what he really wanted in life. Getting sober while in Dallas in the 60s went a long way towards that clarity. While he did have to deal with spirits, he was also finding that it wasn't as terrifying as he remembered it being, and after the display he'd managed at the end of Season 1, he started finally gaining some control in his powers he'd sorely been missing.
During that time, he started looking after his mental health first and foremost, and being sober had the side effect of also helping his physical health as he was no longer stressing his body with the constant ups and downs. Meditation helped him the most, simply being able to put his focus internally would re-center him, and allow him to think rationally and control the majority of his impulse control.
He also allowed himself to really dress the way he wanted, without the influence or presence of his dad, there was no expectation to conform to the bare minimum of acceptable dress for a drugged out graduate of the Umbrella Academy. The ability to mix clothing pieces, colors and patterns settled some of unease he felt in his own body.
Most of his self-care was learned in the 60s, although he isn't sure how much of it is long term given that the modern era is completely different in terms of experimentation, acceptance and style. One thing that's not working for him is the accidental cult he created. He abandoned that largely due to the pressure of leading, and that it made him itch for the destructive tendencies he'd mostly managed to leave behind.
This switch from external 'self-care' to internal really has mellowed him out, allowing him to be present, somewhat focused and generally on the same thought process as his siblings when a discussion is going on. Not that he isn't distractible anymore, because he is, but it is a little easier to keep his focus for extended periods of time before he goes off into his own world or a tangent that has nothing to do with the topic.
He's striving to continue that self-care going forward, and managed it for the most part through Season 3, although after their last universe shift, he's not sure if he needs more or less since they're in a world without powers.

Tulane: 2022 American Football Champions
Tumblr media
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As Tulane receiver Shae Wyatt watched jubilant fans streaming onto the field, he couldn’t help but reflect upon how far his team had come since finishing last season 2-10.
“It’s definitely surreal,” said Wyatt, whose two touchdown catches were no small part of why a celebratory scene so hard to conceive of a year ago was unfolding around him. “Seeing all the other schools with their success, and having their fans storm the field — eventually, everybody wants that.”
Michael Pratt accounted for 442 total yards and five touchdowns, Tyjae Spears highlighted his 199 yards rushing with a 60-yard score and No. 18 Tulane beat No. 22 UCF 45-28 on Saturday night in the American Athletic Conference championship game.
The victory virtually assured Tulane (11-2) would play in the Cotton Bowl — its first major New Year’s Day bowl since the 1939 season.
A full hour after the game, Tulane players were still in uniform, walking back to the field from the locker room to pose for photos with teammates, some with cigars in hand. Spears joked that his elbow was sore from fans pulling on him for a congratulatory embrace.
“It was an amazing feeling, man,” Spears said. “That’s something that will stick with us for the rest of our life.”
And Wyatt suggested that Tulane’s remarkable turnaround should serve as a lesson. “They were just throwing dirt over us and for a while it was hard to bounce back,” Wyatt said of last season, during which Tulane was displaced by Hurricane Ida to a Birmingham hotel for a month, and plagued with injuries to prominent players.
“If you keep your faith and you believe in your brothers that are next to you, flowers will grow. I promise you,” Wyatt said. “I hope this is a testament to anybody out there.”
Pratt passed for a career-high 394 yards, including touchdowns of 73 yards to Duece Watts, 60 and 10 yards to Wyatt and 43 yards to Lawrence Keys. Pratt also ran for a pivotal 18-yard touchdown with 4:04 left.
“It was awesome to close out that game and have those fans so fired up,” said Pratt, named the game’s most outstanding player.
Spears electrified the record crowd of 30,118 at Tulane’s cozy, on-campus Yulman Stadium with his long scoring run, on which he broke two tackles near the line of scrimmage, made two other defenders miss and hurndled his own fallen teammate after cutting back inside.
The Green Wave, which earned the right to host the title game by ending Cincinnati’s 32-game home winning streak last weekend, avenged a 38-31 regular-season loss to UCF (9-4) on the same field on Nov. 12.
But UCF was not quite the same team because of QB John Rhys Plumlee’s nagging hamstring injury, which appeared to rob him of the explosiveness he displayed by running for 176 yards in the previous meeting.
Plumlee struggled enough early on that coach Gus Malzahn pulled him in the second quarter in favor of Thomas Castellanos. But with Tulane up 24-7 in the middle of the third quarter, Malzahn put Plumlee back in as primarily a passer — and he nearly led the Kights all the way back.
“He’s one of the toughest players I think I’ve ever coached,” Malzahn said. “John Rhys just kept telling me, ‘Coach, give me another chance.’ … He really gave us a spark.”
Plumlee led UCF quickly for a touchdown to make it 24-14, converting a fourth-and-10 pass along the way and capping the drive with a 17-yarder to Kobe Hudson.
“You work all year to play in a game like this,” said Plumlee, who completed 29 of 39 for 209 yards and one TD, but finished with minus-7 yards rushing as Tulane had six sacks. “I didn’t want to sell myself short or sell this team short.”
Tulane responded when both UCF safeties froze on a play-fake to Spears and Pratt found Watts running free behind the defense.
UCF cut it to 31-21 when former Virginia QB RJ Harvey took a backward pass from Plumlee and launched a 49-yard TD pass to Hudson.
And the Knights got the ball right back when Spears fumbled after a catch on the Green Wave 30. Isaiah Bowser’s 10-yard run shortly after got UCF as close as 31-28 with 9:48 still left.
But Pratt again found a way to lead the Wave down the field, connecting with Wyatt for the longer of the receiver’s two TDs, and UCF didn’t threaten again.
It was a dream end to week that got off to a less-than-ideal start with reports out of Atlaata that head coach Willie Fritz being pursued by Georgia Tech.
“Well, I sure am glad I stayed,” Fritz said. “I made a commitment to these kids and the last thing I ever wanted to be was a distraction. So, I’m just proud to be here.”
