also was it intentional on the writers' part to have 15.10 more or less copy the broad strokes of 3.03 bad day at black rock and 15.11 do the same for 5.07 the curious case of dean winchester or did they just run out of ideas here

15.11 The Gamblers

Sam and Dean play pool against Fortuna to save the lives of all the people in the pool hall and lose. She asks them "You played against the Goddess of Luck in her own joint. What'd you think was gonna happen?"

Then she sets all the people free, gives the boys the luck they need against Chuck and sends them a message.

"Don't play his game. Make him play yours."

And that's exactly what the boys are doing in the end. They make Chuck come to the place they chose. They make him angry, make him beat them time and again and thus giving away all his power to Jack without realising. Before that, they wanted to relent, wanted to play his game. "Ok, you win, we'll kill each other." But that didn't work out. So they turned the tables. Set up their own game. And won. Sam and Dean made Chuck play the game of unbreakable Winchester willpower, of brotherly love and devotion, and he didn't stand a chance.

Love that forshadowing.

You know, I never really considered before why Ibott named his creation after the woman with a face that sunk a thousand ships. Or why he gave her a codename of someone created solely to be her makers' wife and love. The idea of Ibott wanting Helen as an adult, as an adult....

Fuck this story just keeps throwing me the most dismal curveballs. You think creating a child solider subject to constant verbal abuse and lack of autonomy is bad! Lets throw in that her creator is fucking grooming her! Jesus Christ!

I don't think its just for shock value or general grim-darkness though. I've already talked about how wildbow seems to return to bodily autonomy as a central theme throughout his work, and in Twig this manifests as a focus on creation of a being for instrumental purposes/treating your progeny as something you are owed control over. Still percolating on what exactly wildbow is doing with the theme though. Still new to that kind of lit analysis.

Anyway, kinda funny to run into this line after I just recently made a few art pieces using scenes and quotes from Worm that hit on the same Nabokov-tinted theme of creating something beautiful and horrific for twisted ends.
