Klaus Meets The Guardians Part 2 (+ Ben, Diego and Five)

Quill is quiet for a moment.

“How do I know you’re for real?” He stands back, arms crossed, head tilted to one side.

“Well, I have to be sober for it to work and I took a hit just seconds before you got here…I’ll try.” He places his fingers on his temples.

Ben appears to Klaus. “What the hell are you doing? It’s not telekinesis. You’re not bending spoons here.”

“Back off.” Quill looks confused. “Sorry, not you.”

A new face emerges from the darkness. She has the appearance of someone very sick, but her body and spirit are light.

“Meredith is here.” Quill’s mom gazes lovingly at her boy wishing she could hug him. The words pour out of her fast and Klaus struggles to repeat them.

Quill shifts from skepticism to euphoria mixed with tears.

“She says….She’s sorry she had to leave you on Earth, but wants you to know that she has been watching over you ever since. She’s so proud of the hero you’ve become and you’ll always be her little star lord….Now she wants to know if she picked good songs for your mixed tape.”

“The best songs….I love you, mom.” Quill sobs and falls into Gamora’s waiting arms.

The other Guardians gather around solemnly in support of their friend.

Klaus has tears not only from witnessing the emotional reunion, but for the fact that it is about to end. Klaus can feel the drugs hit his system now. Meredith is fading.

“I’m sorry…that’s it. I can’t see her anymore.”

“Bring her back, Klaus. Please!”

“She’s still here. I just can’t see or hear her…I’m sorry.” Klaus stares glassy eyed at Quill. If I had met you just a few seconds earlier, I would have…. A few seconds earlier….Hey, I think I know how to get you guys home.“

Klaus takes Quill to the Hargreeves Mansion. When they get there Diego is on the sofa listening to news about ships that can’t dock in the Hudson. “Patch took my police scanner. I got so desperate, I turned on Dad’s old radio. There’s no action. I’m going stir crazy”

“Come with us. You can meet the talking raccoon and the sentient tree,” Klaus is bouncing on his tiptoes, giddy with excitement. Quill, perhaps intimidated by Diego’s look, shifts his weight, adjusts his gun belt, and nods.

“Okay, Klaus. I’ll bite.” Diego cocks one eyebrow. “I’m curious to see what you’re actually talking about.”

“We’re going to need Five.”

“Yeah, Good luck with that. He’s been working on an equation for the last 18 hours without a break. It’s got him in a mood.”

The three arrive in Five’s open doorway. The adjacent wall is full of equations. Quill sees the school uniform clad teenager hunched over his desk writing. Behind the doorframe Quill looks up at Klaus incredulously and silently mouths the question, ‘This guy?’ Klaus gives him a goofy, reassuring thumbs up.

“Hey, Five. We see that you’re busy, but we were wondering if you’d be willing to help our friend here. Please?” Klaus pouts and bats his eyelashes. “Remember the time I bludgeoned myself with a snow globe for you!“

"You know that shit doesn’t work on me, Klaus.”

“Okay, how do you feel about a challenge?” Klaus says, nudging Quill.

Quill clears his throat and makes his voice an octave deeper than usual. “My name is Sta—Peter Quill. My crew and I got stranded in this dimension. Our ship is damaged and we need your specialized talent to get home.”

“Unless you think you can’t do it…,” Klaus needles him.

“Klaus, you insult me. I’ve spent nearly half a century outrunning assassins and trying to stop the end of the world. Of course I’ve tried other dimensions! But I’ve got more important things to deal with right now - like the apocalypse!”

“Maybe for this planet in this dimension…You want to help save the galaxy? Earth is not the only planet with lives worth saving.” Quill stands tall, impressed with his little motivational speech.

“Fine!” Five slams his hand down on a messy stack of papers. “You better have decent coffee on that ship of yours.”
