I'm seriously considering stopping the 34 hour challenge early. Duolingo is good as a supplement for other resources. Using it as the only resource? No. For me it's getting really boring, it's not enjoyable, I'm not learning much and there's a lot of what I've learned already that I don't understand. I've done just over 10 hours on Duolingo and I think that's where I'm going to leave it.
Off topic but related - I went to Waterstones a few days ago and bought a book to help me learn the basics of German over the course of 3 months. I think I'll start using that and I hope it'll reignite the passion I had at the start of the Duolingo challenge.

Finally got to my first milestone on Duolingo and unlocked stories! Maintained my 7 days streak and feel even more motivated! My work started again now, and I have wayyy less free time, so I have to separate subjects I study by days. But 20 minutes of Duolingo a day keep that owl away.

Day 1 of 34HLC:
So this is my starting point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I studied French for an hour on Duolingo and 16 minutes on Busuu today. I also made myself new flashards on ANKI.
In an hour, I mastered Travel 2 and At Home. Now they are both golden!!! I actually have an online lesson right now, so I got to go. But tonight I’m planning on sharing vocabulary lists!
Dm me to add me on Duolingo!!

34 HOURS OF LANGUAGE CHALLENGE
So I'm in hour 26, if I'm not wrong, and I'm using this method where you do a first section of Duolingo units, so they all turn to blue, and while you work on the next section you keep going back to the old section, to turn them up to green (level two). Then you start a new section while simultaneously working on the previous two, and so on.
My first section is already on level three !!
Tumblr media
And I've done like half of section three
Tumblr media
This explanation is literally so bad but you can watch this video and probably understand what I meant:-)
This language is really fun !! And the course (german for spanish Speakers) is Very complete, even though they stopped the notes and explanations like after the first section (wtf, Duo??)
But yeah, I like how it's put together and the words and sentence patterns I've been learning :-)

• 34 hour Language Challenge •
I’m participating in the 34 hours language challenge this month!
For 34 days, I’ll spend 1h on Duolingo learning Dutch. I’m currently in level 2, working on:
Er: Level 4
Jobs: Level 4
Modals: Level 3
Home: Level 3
Body: Level 2
To better keep track of my progress, I’ve integrated a cute little chart in my bullet journal to write down what I’ve learned each day.
At the end of a week, I’ll do a little post in Dutch, talking about something, just for practice!

34H Langblr Challenge SPANISH Update #1
So, I'm officially 10 full hours into my 34 hour Langblr Challenge for Spanish.
As I've been studying more in a casual way, this took me 6 days roughly (even though in the past I'm more prone to do 8-10 hours of studying per day).
So far I feel really confident with the basics and that I can at least introduce myself and describe my surroundings and my thoughts in a clear albeit limited way! My conjugations are still dodgy as hell tho umm 😢 But I'm working on them slowly and steadily, and tbh I'm finding that my B2 level in French has kind of catapulted my forward so far. While Spanish and French are very different, the similarities in vocabulary, grammatical structures and sentence structure at times has helped me excel way quicker than anticipated.
My goal for the next 10 hours of the challenge is to improve those basic skills I've been developing and develop my vocabulary further! It's clear to me my first 10 hours have been extremely vocabulary based because I'm of the opinion that learning grammar without the fundamental vocab to back it up and see it in action is useless, at least for my learning style. So I'm now going to attempt to introduce a more grammatical focus to my vocab/phrase immersion in the next 10 hours and see how I fare!

So the 34 days are now over and as expected from me I didn’t achieve my goal. I just got 22 hours on Duolingo. The reason for this is that I did not have much progress during holiday because I thought that I am not able to spend 1 hour on Duolingo. Which is ridiculous!
And now I cannot do the last 12 hours because I am in Sorrent with my school. I will focus during this week on the 625 most important vocabulary that I wrote down and translated and after the vacation I will finish this language challenge.

34hlc- 28 May 2018
I started learning Italian on Duolingo and completed the first 8 lessons. I’ve no previous experience of the language but have found it helpfully similar to French. I intend to spend an hour a day for 34 days (similar to the 34 hour language challenge) although I intend to not only use Duolingo and will look for other Italian language resources.

So, I did hour one of the 34 hour language challenge. I chose Romanian, because I’ve wanted to learn it for a little while but never actually took steps to do so. I figured this is a decent way to start that.
My favorite new word of the day is liliac which is the Romanian word for bat, like the animal.

🇩🇪 Day 4 of the 34 hour language challenge diaries!
Today I did plurals, adjectives, and two stories. I feel like I'm losing my grip of the conjugation of haben and lesen, so that something to pay particular attention to tomorrow.
Time spent (rounded): 34:00
Time left: 31 hours 15 minutes
% done: 8.1%

Duolingo is so addictive! I saw (and I lost that link) somewhere about the 34 hours of duolingo challenge and I am trying to play as much as I can. I lose hearts due to silly mistakes mostly, but thanks to this I’ve already memorized a lot of words and verbs usage. Spanish verbs conjugation seems extremely intimidating to me, but this app makes it less scary to learn.
I am going through an online course for beginners at the same time to make sure I’ll get that grammar base correct. I looked at some conjugation tables. They make little sense for now though... :)

First day of the @34hourlanguagechallenge !!
HOURS 1 / 34
Today I completed my first hour of Duolingo in German :-) I feel weirdly positive, to be honest. The pronunciation was not as hard as I thought it would be. I'm a little scared as to how Duolingo is going to explain the different cases, cause German for Spanish Speakers doesn't have tips, as far as I know.
Also pictured, the book I've been reading the last two weeks D':

• 34 Hours Language Challenge Week 1 Review •
Ik heb in totaal 2 uur een tien minuten Nederlands op Duolingo geleerd laatste week een ... uff.
Mijn ambitie was te leer zeven uur per week. Maar ik hebt het niet gehaald vanwege extreme vermoeidheid en het gevoel van depressie.
Deze week begon niet beter. Maar ik zal dat veranderen! o(^▽^)o
Nieuwe Nederlandse worden die ik leuk find zijn:
Lichaam
Negenennegentig
Duwen
Zorg

34 Hour Langblr Challenge - Day 2
Total hours: 6/34
Today I completed 3 hours 15 minutes of Mandarin study!! Honestly a lot of that was actually spent revising and reviewing the content that I'd learned yesterday as intensely as I could until recognising the characters came to me almost automatically. I'm still struggling with how overwhelming memorising characters, especially those which share almost the same pronunciation, actually is. But I'm hoping the further into the challenge I get the more used to it I'll be!!
My own pronunciation and ability to mimic tone is still extremely rusty though ofc
