This whole episode revolves around a “debate tournament” and it’s so Amusing because someone clearly did research but wasn’t actually familiar w db8, so their research was lacking, and I must babble

• the flirty line about crossfire was amazing and should be used irl, however,, the chances that they both do PFD? when LD and Policy are right there? but hey, PFD is dear to me

• the private school has been sending only their freshman to compete against Sherman Oaks. Does this somehow mean the freshman are competing in Adv PFD? How is this possible? The idea is cute, though, as an explanation for why Devi’s never seen or heard of him, because surely if they’re both db8 champs in the same circuit , they’d have heard of one another. But also like, when I was in BPF, I knew the names of the top competitors in APF. Ofc, my circuit was rather isolated.

• it’s stated that the resolution has to do w athletes using performance-enhancing drugs, but the later speeches have nothing to do with that, so the writers were not told that there’s only one resolution per month

• why are only two schools present at the tournament? there should be at least a couple

• does anyone know if there really are teams out there w paralegals? I went to a relatively-fancy private school for my area, and I’m certain neither my school nor our competition had that. but also, my partner and I opted out of competing at nationals so we never got to experience the upper echelons of db8 for the whole US. and now I want to know

What's in my competition bag?

If you're new to competing in forensics, figuring out what to bring can be weird. So because my team is always prepared for anything, here's my suggestions for what you might want to bring to your competitions:

SEWING KIT (there's always that one person who's suit or skirt falls apart)

Bandaids and basic medical stuff (there's always the person that gets hurt, too)

Anything you might need for a round (make sure you have your black book[s], laptop, boards, ext.)

Chargers and a power bank (do NOT assume that your devices will last the entire day, it's better to have them on you and not need them than to need them and not have them. Outlets might not be available so make sure you have a power bank)

WATER (yes you will definitely need it, don't you dare argue)

Money (make sure you eat and drink water if you didn't bring anything yourself)

Medicine (if you have prescription meds for whatever need, make sure you don't forget them and take them when you need to. My coach has us fill out papers if we need medicines at the beginning of the year and has us notify her before we take them, follow whatever rules your school/coach has for medical needs)

Lactose medicine (if you're like me and can't eat dairy without disaster, make sure you bring whatever form of lactose medicine you take. I try to avoid dairy entirely at comps, but there might not be an option so I bring it every time)

Something to keep you entertained (you might not get much down time between rounds depending on what you do, but bring something like books or your switch if you get bored and don't want to use up your phone battery)

Stim / anxiety toys (I have horrible anxiety and I get overstimulated easily. Comps can be loud, extremely busy, and generally too much, so make sure you have something to help)

Headphones (also for if you get overstimulated)

Notebooks, pencils, and highlighters (I did extemp a lot last year, and these are amazing for figuring out your speech. If you do extemp, I advise to write your points down, writing helps you memorize more than typing does)

Makeup (if you wear makeup, you might want to bring it in case it gets messed up throughout the day)

Tldr: want to do original material for Forensics, not allowed, how do I bypass this?

I want to do a script that my friends and I have created for Forensics (speech and debate). However, one of the organizations that we use doesn't allow original material for Play Acting (our category). The rules state, "Material must be from a published source. published material is considered any material biblically or commercially available in print, online, audio, or video form." We were thinking that we could post it on a website like AO3. Would that work? Does AO3 count as publishing? I've been trying to figure out how to do our script without breaking the rules. Any ideas?
