Random thought from yesterday:

Pet! SAHSR (Self Aware Honkai Star Rail) AU

Notes: reverse isekai, characters turn into animals, Astral Express Crew, Caelus and Stelle are twins, kind of Cult! AU?

Dutch Rabbit! Pom Pom who pretends that they don't like being petted. They don't look at you when you pet them, opting to stare at random things around them, but they move towards you slowly and secretly, a few steps at a time. They nuzzle into your palm but pretend that they didn't afterwards by ignoring you multiple times when you call their name. Pom Pom does try to nip at your fingers if you ruffle their fur too often, thinking that you're trying to mess up their soft fur. If Pom Pom is feeling particularly friendly on some days, they might even let you hold them for hours (they usually lie still in your arms for about 5 minutes before squirming to get away). March will start complaining and pawing at your arm though, as it's her spot on other days.

Cocker Spaniel! March 7th who loves following you around your house. She's quite energetic, often bringing her toys to you, pleading for you to play with her through her gaze. You do play with her, but it's impossible to do so every 10 minutes, what with your work and everyday duties. March gets bored when you can't play with her, lying on the floor and looking here and there for something else to play with (that isn't her toys). Don't be surprised when you return to the living room and find your bags turned inside out, belongings undamaged but strewn across the floor, Himeko picking them up and piling them together for you. March wants you to think of it as revenge for not playing with her (>:3).

Siberian cat! Dan Heng who prefers resting on cat trees than interacting with the others. He'll swipe a paw at anyone (except you) who dares invade his personal space, though he acts more lenient towards the other pets. He watches you from his special spot on the cat tree every time you walk around the house doing chores or just going from one room to another. Sometimes Dan Heng does follow you just like March, but if you tell him that he's practically tripping you every step you take, he quietly leaves and goes back to his spot. If March is following you as well, Dan Heng will paw at her back, telling her to follow him to the living room. He'll ask for help from Welt if she doesn't listen.

Maine Coon! Himeko who's just like the mom of the group. She's mostly calm, but will gently nip at the younger pets' ears or swipe a paw at them - claws retracted, of course - if they misbehave. Himeko likes it when you brush her fur. Eight to nine out of ten times she falls asleep when you do so. She has to have her fur brushed weekly if not daily - she'll bring her comb to you and purr to let you know. Himeko will curl up next to you if you let her sleep on your bed, guarding you throughout the night, nuzzling against you when you wake up screaming (or not) from nightmares.

Bernese Mountain Dog! Welt who's really calm and quiet. He rests his snout on the edge of your bed each morning so the first thing you see when you wake is a pair of honey-coloured eyes staring right back at you. Please pat his snout as a good morning; he'll feel so happy if you do! As mentioned above, Dan Heng asks Welt for help when March insists on running in circles around you: he picks her up by the scruff and takes her away. Welt likes to accompany you on walks at night, treasuring the precious time he gets to spend with you. There's this one time when you took a photo with Welt and put a pair of toy glasses on his snout. He seemed to love those glasses a lot after that.

Raccoons! Caelus and Stelle who are disappointed that they can't go dumpster diving in your house. You can't have garbage strewn around your house, after all. You caught them red-handed during their first few attempts after arriving at your house. When you leave your house, they'll try to dig through the trash cans again. March and Dan Heng try to stop them, with March tugging on Stelle's tail with her mouth and Dan Heng standing on his hind legs, trying to pry Caelus off the can. Eventually you prepared a huge box for the troublemaker twins and hid new toys or snacks in it, underneath old clothes and colourful, hollow plastic balls. That seemed to satisfy their interest in dumpster diving, albeit briefly. Caelus and Stelle still try to climb into trash cans whenever they go on walks with you.

Even though Pom Pom was a rabbit, Dan Heng and Himeko were cats, Welt and March were dogs, and Caelus as well as Stelle were raccoons, they often stuck together like a family. Pom Pom likes to make Welt's back their personal couch. Welt won't move at all unless you pick up Pom Pom or Pom Pom climbs off his back. Himeko plays with March to distract her from turning your house upside down when you're busy. Caelus, Stelle and Dan Heng lie in a cuddle pile during naps. Sometimes March, Himeko, Welt and Pom Pom join them too. You're quite puzzled as to why they love each other dearly, but hey, it's nice to see them acting like family, no?

A comment on how Booktwt, Booklr, and Booktok media reactivity has lost the plot

Or, I think y'all need to log off and touch some grass and think about your actions for a hot minute. Note: This rant is a tad long, because I'm fucking pissed.

Disclaimer 1: I don't personally know the author of this book or anyone screenshotted in the drama. We aren't friends. I have no reason to either defend nor criticize these people, except for the fact that I've been a primary reader of self-pub and indie books for almost a decade now, and yes, including romances that some people don't consider worthy of civility. I'm also a queer healthcare worker.

Disclaimer 2: I don't want anyone mentioned/screenshotted here to be spammed with hate. Please do NOT contact them, including any authors mentioned. I included the primary actors for the current drama primarily so people don't claim I'm talking out of my ass.

Book blurb:

Events preceding 2023: Lisina Coney, author of The Darkest Corner of the Heart, was born in 1999 in northern Spain. She worked as a translator prior to publishing books.

Initially I thought these books were only self-published, but in fact are published under the formerly indie publisher Page & Vine, founded by romance novelist Meredith Wild.

January 27th, 2023: The Brightest Light of Sunshine is published by nearly 24-year-old Lisina Coney. On Goodreads, it currently sits at 3.87 stars as of today, February 10th, 2024, with 27,727 ratings and 3,592 reviews. Note: For a small-time author, especially for a debut novel, these numbers are huge.

May 2023, Page & Vine announced that Big 5 publisher Simon & Schuster would distribute their books as an imprint beginning in summer 2023.

In mid-to-late 2023, Lisina's website and socials announced The Darkest Corner of the Heart, her second novel to be published with Page & Vine on February 20th, 2024. Note: This means the events below occurred BEFORE the book's publication.

February 5th, 2024: anaborbareads on Twitter/X posts the cover and other art of Darkest Corner with the text, "a forbidden romance between ballerina and physical therapist???? pls i need this book now 🥺✨💗🫶🏻"

February 6th, 2024: h0mmelette on Twitter/X responds to anaborareads with "the booktok genre of forbidden romance is hilarious. theyre straight… whats forbidden"

February 6th, 2024: a tumblr user reposts the twitter thread from above to tumblr. Other tumblr users reblog and add on, and it quickly goes viral.

February 7th, 2024: From what I can tell via reverse image searching, the first iteration of the fake ARC page that's going around appears to be from Twitter/X user queef1ng. About 4 hours later, the same fake ARC page was reposted on the tumblr post mentioned above. And from here, this story takes a turn from people wanting to feel like they're above a romance novel writer to potential legal territory.

Of the 122 ratings on Goodreads for Darkest Corner to date, 9 appear to be 1-star reviews and from what I can tell, most/all of them were only published since the events began on 06Feb2024. 71 are 5-stars and while some of those are ARC readers, many newer ones appear to be trying to counteract the review bombing from the fake ARC page.

As of today, February 10th, 2024, it looks like the book will still be published on February 20th as planned, but we'll see.

Wait, so how do you know the page is fake?

I can't believe people have been so gullible but fine, here's my analysis:

Lisina's real ARC readers have stated that it isn't from the book (not gonna document all of them in the screenshots but you can easily go to the book's GR page and see the ARC reviews there).

As other folks pointed out on the tumblr repost, no real ARC page does a weird review watermark like that. Speaking from my own experience in reviewing ARCs or beta-reading, I agree.

The font tipped me off because it looked like it had literally been written on a Fanfiction.Net page. Not that Verdana, font size 10, is unique to FFN, but it looks like fanfiction typed font. Which brings me to:

Literally how could you believe this author writes like this? You can read her website or preview her first book or just have the bare minimum common sense to understand what satire looks like. If you don't believe me (because I know framing a post like this will put a lot of people on the defensive), I've also included screenshots below. The prose and dialogue are COMPLETELY different from the alleged screenshot. The only thing that is similar is that both characters are ballerinas.

But wait, all of this doesn't explain why YOU, Cinnia, are so pissed about this?

You're completely right! It really doesn't. All of the above is mostly documentation so the naysayers can't say I'm just some silly fangirl of the author.

The initial premise of the drama is that you can't have "forbidden love" in an m/f relationship. First of all, William Shakespeare would like to have a word with you regarding Romeo and Juliet. Second of all, yes you fucking can. See also: Religious and cultural differences and human history for a starting point. I know it may be hard to touch grass and look at media that is not tumblr queer media-centric and understand that people who are NOT you might enjoy it very much. Note that I'm a queer person saying this and I do read or watch m/f media at times because I don't like limiting myself. Go watch Bajirao Mastani and enjoy one of the most beautiful movies about forbidden love ever produced.

The book itself falls into the medical romance subgenre. For those not familiar, these are romances (usually m/f) that often involve a healthcare worker and their patient. In the real world, where people touch grass, a healthcare worker like me having a relationship with their patient is such a huge ethical violation that it will get you fired. In Darkest Corner, James is Maddie's physical therapist because she's a ballerina with a sports injury and he is treating her. Ergo, it is forbidden for them to get together and the initial premise for mocking this book is on very shaky ground.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that the folks mocking it seem to very likely not be familiar with romance novels and their subgenres at all, or else they'd be well aware of the concept of straight romances marketed as a "forbidden romance" because they're fucking everywhere on any place that sells romance books. I have a personal collection of over 14,500 kindle ebooks. While not all of those are romances, a good chunk of them are, so I think I can count myself as a bit of a source here, you know?

The fake screenshot and social media drama has spread to at least Twitter, Tumblr, and BookTok, which all have huge reader hobbyists. For a small-time author barely past her debut novel's publication, allegations of this sort tied to your author name and book titles can last on the internet and in web searches for a long, long time, hurting an author's career. Maybe you're like "boohoo, who cares about their careers, I pirate all my fiction books anyway" and well, a post like this was probably never going to convince you of anything. I'm talking to the folks who might still have a sense of shame and self-reflection. Authors, even authors tied to a Big 5's imprint, earn peanuts. This sort of manufactured "scandal" is not ideal when the book is weeks away from being published. In fact, if the book has fewer sales than the first book in the series, Simon & Schuster may have legal grounds to go after the person who made the fake screenshot. A smarter person would have kept that to the groupchat or posted it as a clearly marked fanfic on AO3.

As a reader, this also sucks because when shit like this happens, the reviews of a book are permanently biased by both the bombers and the fans of the author, no matter how good or bad the book ends up being. Do I know if this book will be a 1-star or 5-star now, based on the reviews? Nope. Will I read it? No, because I don't read medical romances as it's a squick for me. But I may read her first book, which has mercifully escaped most of the social media nonsense.

This isn't the first time booktwt/booktok/booklr has engaged in a similar mob mentality towards books they don't like and I doubt it'll be the last. See Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao and the allegations that turned out to be false then, too. However, I would like to ask y'all to please check your sources and not blindly accept what someone says on social media as truth. Get used to doing the research because manufactured misinformation is everywhere, and it's not gonna get better. (And for fuck's sake, not everyone is gonna like the same books and fandoms you like! It's not illegal to enjoy reading different things!)

If we’re still offering aus, how about another age swap? But this time all their gifts stay the same just the grandkids ages are reversed. Antonio would be the oldest at 21, then Mirabel and Camilo are both 19. Luisa is 15, while Dolores and Isabela are both 5. I think Mirabel and Camilo, along with Dolores and Isabela’s birthdays would have to be swapped for this to work out though?

Do you think Antonio be Alma’s favorite in this au due to being the oldest and a charmer of the town? Or would she still prefer Isabela since she’s kinda looks like a young abuela?

Mirabel would still not have a gift, and I’d think that put more strain on her relationship with her abuela since she’s now the second oldest. And the rest of the grandkids after her got a gift. I’d still see her as being the town’s seamstress, or an apprentice to one at the least, though.

Also while we still could do Antonio getting engaged to a girl, I think I’d be funnier if Mariano was reverse aged too. And Abuela invites him over for a play date with Isabela, who isn’t interested in the slightest because she wants to practice more with her gift but will do it since it’ll make Abuela happy. And Dolores who still has a little crush on Mariano would want to be the one Abuela chose to have the play date for.

Oh, I like this idea! We’ll call it: Reversed AU.

Antonio and Camilo definitely receive a lot of favouritism because they are boys, but also have the best relationship with the town and gifted. They are both charmers in their own right and have many people swooning after them. Neither really places above the other - they both have their own praiseworthy notes. Antonio being the eldest and Camilo being the one to “bring back the miracle” as it were. They both remind Alma of Pedro.

Isabela is the favourite of the girls, but that’s mainly because she’s the youngest. She’s too young for her striking resemblance to Alma to be overly noticeable yet, so that doesn’t factor into it at all.

And I’m not going to do the bit with Mariano. The girls are six and five. Nobody has genuine, proper crushes at that age, so… it wouldn’t really work. Nor would Abuela be forcing relationships on them that early. That’s just weird. Though he definitely is a friend of them both, as they go to school together.

Antonio is soon to be engaged to (the also aged up) Alejandra. Though they do like each other, the relationship is happening too quickly for them and they aren’t really given a chance to know the real versions of each other. Just the perfect image presented by their families.

Alma ignores Mirabel entirely. She’s too grown up to need to be scolded or reminded to step aside now. Mirabel doesn’t have an actual job, though she did try to get one - the townspeople didn’t want her. She helps out with chores around the house (alongside Agustín and Félix), and does serve as the Madrigal’s personal embroiderer; not that she gets the credit.

ドッチ・ジャーニー・ショウ！ Which Way the Book Turns!

This is a pun-laden name from Dudi again. It can be romanized literally as "Which Journey Shall/Shows!", but it is also a play on 書 (sho), which can sometimes be used to refer to a book - like the one Dudi is reading in the card art.

I just tried my best here; I'm sure there's a punnier name that makes me go "oh my god why didn't I think of that" once YGOrg puts their article out.

お前の中でこれがしの自我を保つのは難しそうだ "Your body is unable to sustain my ego."

Clarifying here that Kuaidul means this in the sense that if he merges with Yuudias, something disastrous will occur... to Yuudias. He is willingly undoing the fusion, or reversing it, so that it doesn't harm him.

He is "letting go" of Yuudias of his own volition.

種の寿命が尽きようとしている "Our species is approaching the limit of our lifespans."

More accurately, Kuaidul is trying to say "our species is going to exhaust our lifespan", as in "use up" or "run out", but I couldn't think of a way to word this that had the same finality as limit.

It is very much with a finality that Kuaidul says this. Interpret as you wish.

Some other easter eggs

In order for Shewbahha's card to activate, Yuudias had to send Leviaknight (Phaser's card) to the grave - kinda like giving Shewbahha something to eat!

Nyandestar's Cat Claw Girl is the last obstacle that everyone must overcome, which is fitting considering she was the first ever card created by Kuaidul

Similarly, the last people to give Yuudias the ATK boost he needs are some of the first people he ever met upon arriving on Earth... Yuamu and Yuuhi!

Dudi Nishaw, though he's part of the Dudi Ducasse, is in fact a Velgearian... due to how he's supposed to be one of the three "factions" fighting in the Velgear Star Cluster. You can sort of think of the term "Velgearian" as both a species identifier and a nationality. Dudi is a "Velgearian" species-wise, but he is Dudi Ducasse in terms of nationality. Hope that makes sense!

The "Andromeda-Milky Way collision" is a real thing that is projected to happen... in the next 4.5 billion years. According to Wikipedia, it's actually not going to cause much damage to either galaxy or the stars within it at all, due to how far apart each individual star is. In fact, by the time this happens, all life on Earth would've been wiped out about 3 billion years ago anyway due to the Sun's growing instability

In Mahayana Buddhism, which Japanese Buddhism is derived from, a "bodhisattva" is someone with "a spontaneous wish and compassionate mind to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all" - does it sound familiar? It's Yuudias offering his body to Kuaidul even despite all of the wrongs he has committed.

I guess we now know why the ED is titled "Song of Departure"

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for Go Rush season 3, now that we know that's a thing that's happening! It has always been something I wanted because I adore this show to bits... but I was so convinced we would be moving onto the next series already.

But here we are! The voice actor of Yuudias, Arthur, said that this third year was only possible "with [the fan's] support" - so it's wonderful and heartwarming to know Go Rush is very well received.

This is one of my favorite episodes of all of Yu-Gi-Oh! as a whole. I have not cried at a finale or even any episode like this since ZEXAL aired Nasch vs Yuuma ten years ago.

BRF Reading - 7th of August, 2023

This is speculation only

Cards drawn on the 7th of August, 2023

What does Camilla want?

This reading is driven by the frustration of seeing yet another "Sant Camilla the Victim" article via one of her family members, so my apologies if that frustration leaks through into my interpretation of the cards.

Note: I turned all the cards upright for this reading, to clear any old energies out of the deck, so there are no reversals in this reading.

Interpretation: Camilla wants to replace Princess Diana and be the one who glows brightly in people's hearts and minds.

Card One: The Nine of Wands.

This is a card of making one last effort to achieve your goals. It speaks of persistence, perseverance, being absolutely exhausted but pulling yourself up for one final effort to achieve your goals.

The suit of wands here is giving me PR energy.

There has been a long campaign conducted via PR to rehabilitate Camilla in the eyes of the general public. It has worked somewhat in the past, but at the moment we are having 'Saint Camilla' shoved down our throats and it is not working. People know her past. They lived through her past. When they call her an adulterer, they are not calling her names but speaking the truth. When they call her Charles's mistress, they are not being mean but speaking the truth. Her past is known, and trying to change what happened in that past is telling people that what they saw and read at the time was not true and didn't exist, and that is gaslighting, and people do not appreciate it. We know what happened.

Camilla's past is like one of the rocks in the picture on the card, and her current attempts at rewriting that past are the other rock, and she is going to be squished in between them like the unlucky boats that tried to pass through the rocks. She can defend her actions all she wants through PR. People made up their mind about her a long time ago and all this current PR push is doing is annoying everyone who knows otherwise and alienating people who might otherwise be sympathetic towards her. A past mistress who hung on, married the man, and then rode out the wave of bad press by keeping her head down and doing some good work is acceptable. Rewriting that person as a mix of Her Late Majesty, the best girl boss to ever boss, and a sad victim of circumstances is not acceptable (or even logical). I feel that the palace is going to persist in this PR, and I don't think it will work.

Card Two: The Queen of Cups.

This card represents a Cancer person. It can be Camilla or Diana, both Cancers, but here it is giving me Princess Diana energy. Diana's story is written and finished, and it annoys Camilla no end that she can't change that story and eliminate Diana from the history of the BRF. Camilla wants to be the victim, not Diana, Camilla wants to have the sympathy and love of the people, not Diana, Camilla wants to be the one people remember and mourn for 30, 40, 50 years after her death, not Diana. The energy of this card is of a very emotional Camilla trying to shove Diana out of the picture, and Diana is firm on her throne and won't be shoved out of the way.

I feel that Camilla has never let go of Diana, that she lives in Diana's shadow even though no one else is comparing them or even thinking about Diana when they are around Camilla, and that Camilla brings Diana with her as a constant third person in her marriage. The solution is for Camilla to stop embracing the lesser qualities of the Queen of Cups (needy, dependent, making herself out to be a victim, super sensitive) and to embrace the higher qualities of the cards (compassion for Diana and for herself and her role in the tragedy, to view Diana with warmth and kindness instead of seeing her as the eternal competition, to heal/release herself from whatever complex she has about Diana and to let Diana go).

Card Three: The Star

The Star is a card of hope and faith. It can mean having your wishes come true. It can also mean literally wanting to be a star. In its lesser energy it speaks of despondence, negativity, and a lack of faith.

The energy I get from this card is that Camilla wants to be the star. In her mind she has done her time, she is now Queen, she may not like the job but she wants all eyes upon her and everyone paying attention to her when she walks into a room. She wants to be the shining light that everyone looks up to and admires, and it would be all her dreams coming true of that was to happen. However, that is not happening, and Camilla is upset over that (hence the PR campaign to gaslight a nation).

I feel that Camilla is very despondent that Diana is still very much alive in people's minds, still shining her warmth after all these years, still spoken about and adored so many years after her death, instead of fading away into a quiet obscurity and letting Camilla have centre stage. Camilla is doing her best to outshine Diana and it is not really working, and she knows it.

The advice to Camilla here from the cards is to give up and stop hoping for the impossible. She needs to create other dreams for herself, dreams that can come true, and pursue those. Camilla has many earthly blessings and she should focus on those, be grateful for those, and continue to use those blessings to help others instead of clinging to the past and trying to win a popularity contest against a memory.

Underlying Energy: The Seven of Cups.

The Seven of Cups is a card of possibilities - some good, some bad, some realistic, and some not realistic. You have to make a choice about which of the many possibilities in your life you are going to focus on and try to manifest in this world. It can be a card of illusions, as some of the cups contain goals that you will never be able to manifest, and the energy of this card in this reading is just that: someone is trying to manifest an illusion and is ignoring the other practical things that are available for manifestation.

Camilla is trying to manifest an illusion. This may be because she lacks a real purpose in her life, or because she is emotionally attached to this illusion (Cups are emotions), or because of some other reason. She either won't be able to manifest her illusion, or the manifestation will be torn apart by its first contact with reality (as happens with all illusions).

The message from the card is to let go of the illusion, choose a solid/practical/realistic goal, and put in the hard work to make it a reality (as Psyche completed hard tasks for Aphrodite in order to be reunited with her husband Eros, as referenced by the image on the card). If Camilla does this, she may very well find that her hard work is noticed and appreciated and that it brings her some of the attention and acceptance that she seems to want.

Conclusion:

Camilla wants to be loved/admired/adored and she is using PR in final attempt to achieve this. I don't think the PR will work as it ignores certain hard facts that everyone knows about her.

I feel that Camilla is almost haunted by the memory of Princess Diana and her popularity. She wants to push Diana out of the way and take Diana's throne/place in people's hearts and minds, instead of letting go of Diana and creating her own place/throne in the minds of the general public, which she could do by choosing an achievable goal and putting in the hard work to make it happen/manifest. Instead, she is trying to create an illusion where she is the victim/martyr of the situation who has risen to the heights through the power of true love and who is now the best girl boss to ever boss, which somehow is a good thing, while also being exactly the same as the late Queen? (Her PR makes no sense to me so it is hard for me to summarise it.)

The illusion will not work and Camilla would be better off putting all this effort into dealing with her Diana complex and getting on with her life. She can't change the past but she can make her image better by her choices in the future (and at the moment she is making all the wrong choices that will not achieve her goal).

A New Live Production, Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors, Reveals A High Camp Side to this Story of The Undead Count

One thing you can count on every Halloween is an appearance of Dracula or, at least, some form of a vampire added to the mix. That could mean a re-run of the many classic films with the undead count such as Universal’s original version of Dracula (with Bela Lugosi) or Hammer’s The Horror of Dracula (with Christopher Lee). But this scary season doesn't necessarily require an appearance of the original bloodsucker himself. It could include some resurrection of his character in a movie, play or live visual presentation in some haunted house.

In 1897, when Irish author Bram Stoker published his long-wrought novel Dracula for just six shillings, he didn’t realize that he’d created one of the most iconic figures of all time. Though this story of an aristocratic, undead mastermind was popular in its day, little did Stoker know that his blood-drinking, soulless monster of the night would become the source of countless permutations, reinterpretations, and re-examinations of this creature and its implications. There’s even a Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin which celebrates the Gothic, the supernatural, the after-dark and Victorian as well as the Count himself.

Of course, along with Stoker’s horror classic, the inevitable humorous satires, parodies, and various send ups cropped up. From a tale of the ageless Count needing to leave his ancient homeland to resettle in England to tap fresh blood, the original gothic narrative has often been revised with sometimes hilarious results.

Now, through Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors, this battle with the master of the undead receives an outlandish rethink. Enabled by a compact, five-person cast – Jordan Boatman, Arnie Burton, James Daly, Ellen Harvey, and Andrew Keenan-Bolger – this rapid-fire comedic reimagining of this archetypal tale garners guffaws and lots of snickering.

Taking off from the original’s classic characters, they’re transformed into these versions: sweet Lucy Westfeldt, vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing, insect consumer Percy Renfield, and behavioral psychiatrist Wallace Westfeldt, among others. Here they find themselves in a faux British country estate which doubles as a free-range mental asylum. With its cast of slapstick, quick change comics who switch roles with the aplomb of fast handed pickpockets, this Dracula not only makes you scream, but it does it with laughter. The show also exposes a fundamental ridiculousness that illustrates just how resilient the original concept is: it can take jabs even at its core of terror and still retain a certain majestic-ness.

Through its compact 90-minute show, elements of goth, camp, and variant sexuality are thrown into a gender-bending, quick-change romp. With all the wacky characters, a pansexual Gen-Z Count Dracula tops the list of existentially challenged characters.

As a buddy of notorious gay Victorian author Oscar Wilde, the actual Stoker was believed to be a closeted gay man in a repressive England, so his novel was rife with suggestive sexuality and gender reversals. Director/co-writers Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen’s send-up of this novel is meant to be viewed through a very contemporary lens.

Just as the book transcended other Gothic horror of its day, this comedy rises above being simple holiday fare. Make your way to the Westside’s New World Stages for a comedic jab at the jugular.

ATEEZ Choi San Tarot Reading - December 2023

Disclaimer: I do tarot readings for fun, so please read them with a grain of salt. Don’t take my words too seriously and just keep an open mind. San’s overall feelings and energy this month - I The Magician

This is a beautiful energy. In December San seems to feel fresh and energized, he’s full of creativity and inspiration. Whatever he plans to do, the outcome can be expected to be positive. He has a lot of confidence in himself and is very aware of his talent, skills, and originality. It feels like nothing can really bring him down this month. He has all the resources and energy he needs to fulfill his dreams and reach his goals. He also seems to balance himself very well, no matter how much stress is in his life. He’s very passionate and great at communicating his wants and needs, but also boundaries.

Career - Knight of Swords (R) & XVII The Star

There could be some bullying and inappropriate behavior happening in San’s work environment. It feels like someone’s trying to make him fall and wants to go for his reputation. This is obviously causing quite some aggressions on San’s side but he’s urged to keep both his feet on the ground and don’t get on their level. San is also urged to take it slow in his career and not to rush head first into any situation. It’s okay to be rebellious but he should slow it down this month. But better times will come and even though this month could be a bit tough, San won’t lose hope. As I’ve said before, San is very confident and he knows he’s a star and hard to top. Those bullies won’t get him down and won’t make him lose himself. He’s looking at all his opportunities and his career with open eyes, heart and mind. While the bullies are being ridiculous, he’s making money.

Love - Nine of Coins (R)

There’s really not much to say about his love life right now. From the Oracle cards and the nine of coins in reversed, I get the energy that his focus is on the comeback and his career in general. I’m still seeing some separation like last month but not really much happening. San wants love, that’s what I can tell, and there could be still someone just around the corner waiting to enter his life, but overall what I see in this spread, San isn’t focusing on that and is also not too optimistic about love right now. His work load is just a bit too much to think about a relationship. The oracle still talks about a soul connection being there tho, i think its just a question of time until they find each other.

Advice - Eight of Cups

Leave behind what doesn’t serve you anymore. It’s time to make space for new experiences and memories. Focus on your personal goals. It’s okay to run away from everything if you reached your limit. Find your truth and yourself again.

Warnings: mentions death, several battles, a few swear words here and there

Synopsis: It is modern time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. One Hufflepuff who suppresses her emotions while one Slytherin who breaks the stereotype of the Slytherin Prince. Will they connect? Or will they continue to clash?

“Okay, try again,” you say, stepping back to give Chris room to cast the spell.

There wasn’t a lot of Charms spells 7th years have to learn, but Charms is Chris’ worst subject. He could practice and practice and practice, but it was hard for him to catch on. There is something about concentrating so hard for a spell that puts a bump in the road of his learning.

You and Chris were practicing the Impervius Charm near the Black Lake. You put a rain cloud above a dummy’s head so Chris could have the rain not get the dummy wet.

“Impervius,” Chris calls out.

A faint bubble starts to form around the dummy, but it fails to hold and the rain continues to drench the fake death eater.

“UGH!” Chris screams. “This is so frustrating! Why won’t it hold?!”

You clear the rain cloud to give the dummy a break. “Well, it could be that you’re not-“

“Y/n Please don’t say that I’m not concentrating enough because I swear I am. I can feel the migraine starting to develop,” Chris sits down on the ground, holding his head in his hands.

You slowly walk over to Chris to sit next to him. “What’s blocking you?” All Chris does is shrug is shoulders. You could tell this was another vulnerable state you are seeing him in, but he isn’t being open about it this time.

“Here,” you stand up, pushing the fake death eater from being under the cloud. You start the rain cloud again which is now raining on you.

“Hold up!” Chris quickly stands up, “You are going to get sick!”

“Then get this rain off of me!”

He fidgets his wand in his hand. He doesn’t want to mess this up and have you be under the rain cloud for too long. He hesitantly points his want to your face, ““Impervius.”

Just from the tone of his voice, you could tell that it was going to work. There was conviction and confidence, which you knew was fake, in his spell casting. Soon enough, the rain drops fall around you instead of on you. It was strange to see the rain falling besides you. “You did it!” You clear the rain cloud before any more rain can fall onto you.

“Wow! I actually did it!” Chris smiles widely.

“I knew you could do it that time!” you smile back.

Chris cocks his head to the side, “Did you not believe in me?”

You rolled your eyes, “I didn’t say that. I just thought the dummy wasn’t helping anymore.”

“Just say I’m hopeless. It’s fine,” Chris fake cried, nuzzling his head to your shoulder. You push him away, making him giggle while losing his balance. You made him try the spell a few more times to get some practice in. Soon enough, he got the spell down and you started to walk back to the castle together.

“So, who are you going to the Yule Ball with?” you ask. You thought conversation would be better than walking up in silence.

Chris scoffs, “No one as of right now.”

Your eyes almost pop out of your head, “Are you joking?”

“Why would I be?” he chuckles.

“Uh, probably because you are the most popular guy in school. Have you been turning down girls or what?” you joke.

Maybe.

“No one has asked me and I haven’t found someone to go with yet,” he admits. “What about you? You going with anyone?”

Your heart skipped a beat. That’s never happened before. “You’re funny, Chris.”

He gives you a funny look, “What do you mean? Haven’t you and Viktor been buddies recently?”

“I don’t know. It’s kind of weird. But, I don’t think I’ll end up going,” you say, kicking a rock to the side.

Chris looks in your direction. Your hair was still damp from the rain. You had tried to dry your clothes as best as possible, but your hair was giving you trouble. He noticed that it was starting to curl slightly, something he has never noticed before. “Well, I think he will ask you soon.”

“Yeah, right. I don’t think so. He doesn’t seem like someone that would ask someone like me to a ball,” you comment.

“You never know,” Chris says, opening the door to let them inside the castle.

I’ve been brainstorming a potential “Total Drama: Revenge of the Action” as a bridge between Revenge and All-Stars. This wouldn’t be a rewrite for either season and would be written with canon in mind. As such, the approximate elimination order is as follows. (Feel free to leave suggestions)

13th. Dakota (Sam competing in All-Stars hinges directly on Dakota still being a mutant, and there’s no way anyone’s keeping her when the merge comes)

12th. Scott (A. The others aren’t stupid, B. He’ll be carrying All-Stars anyway, and C. He’s probably still disoriented from the incident last season)

11th. Cameron (He merges in AS, and made the finals already, so I went the Action Gwen route and booted him early on)

10th. Mike (Basically reverse of Cameron’s)

9th. Staci (Can’t have two Ezekiels)

8th. Lightning (The farthest I could get him without reaching the merge, as a balance between his canon seasons)

7th. Zoey (If Duncan and Owen can reach the merge every time, I don’t see why she can’t. Honestly, I could probably switch her with Cam, Mike, or Lightning for this slot)

6th. B (Here’s where the rationales change to “because they didn’t merge beforehand”)

5th. Brick (Oh, btw, Jo’s the antagonist of the season. This just seemed like a good place to put her biggest rival)

4th. Dawn (Just seemed logical)

3rd. Jo (Since Scott finished fourth and Mal was a finalist, Jo gets third)

2nd. Anne Maria/Sam (WHO wins doesn’t really matter, but Sam being a finalist helps to justify his inclusion in All-Stars better…)
