Ladybug stares at him. Her eyes roam over his face, taking in the wet locks falling against his forehead, his cat-like eyes, the curve of his mask and the way his lips curl into an ever-so soft smile as he watches her.
To her, it feels like the moment freezes in time; Ladybug finds herself recalling a similar moment just like this one. With another blond-haired, green-eyed boy. With a multitude of emotions between them, but, as a clap of thunder sounded through the air, all of those emotions had folded into one.
There is no clap of thunder here.
But there is emotion.

Ladybug turns towards him with a grin as she extends her hand. “Sorry I'm late, but would you like to dance?”
For a moment, Chat just blinks at her in confusion.
Why in the world is she asking him to dance?
“Well?” she asks. There's a playful glint in her eyes. “Would you like to dance, kitty?”
That's when he realizes: this is Marinette. Marinette, who always knows exactly what he needs. It's this thought that makes him get to his feet, this thought that makes him smile as he lets her take his hand and pull him towards her.
“Always,” he murmurs, and that's all the cue she needs.

After the final battle with Hawk Moth, Chat finds himself sitting alone on a rooftop during New Year's Eve, mulling over what exactly happened. Luckily, Ladybug is there to help him through this.

Rain pours down all around her. It hits her shoulders, drips down her back, makes her hair slick with moisture, and she lets it. Marinette simply stands there. She gazes at the waters of the Seine, watching as the water droplets hit the river's surface and ripple outwards.
Like a simple lie told, the rain droplets fall onto the water. It ripples outwards, like the sheer weight of its consequences. Where no one else can reach it; where it is no longer in control.
Just like the way their relationship had started.
And just like the way it looks like it's going to end.

She doesn't exactly know what compels her to be this bold—perhaps it's because she still doesn't know why he's here. Maybe it's due to the fact that he's familiar, almost, making her feel a connection. It could even be that she's run into him before; that they've met in another lifetime, far from where they are now but close enough to recognize the other.

They upright the broken buildings. They cure the people who were hurt. They cure Ladybug, and now she's looking at him with a grin as if nothing had happened, as if she wasn't just dying moments before.
She gets to her feet, grabs her yo-yo, and purifies the akuma in his hands. And once she's done with that, Ladybug turns and gives him a soft smile. As if it were just any other day and she's seeing him in passing.
As if it were any other normal day.
As if nothing had even happened.

He loved interacting with his fans, he loved swooning over Ladybug (with her playfully rolling her eyes and telling him to stop), and he loved being in front of the cameras. Because for once, he didn't have to wear stiff smiles or nod politely. He could let loose. He could say whatever he wanted with little repercussions—unless it was about secret identities, of course, but he always made sure never to touch that territory.
Only this time? The interview would be much, much different.

“You must be lying,” Emma declares, “because Santa always delivers presents. So if you're the one who's delivering presents, that must mean you're Santa.”
