I have an idea for a scene in a short story (character A:son character B:parent) they are on a quite battlefield and over the carnage B who's far away calls to A, turning their happy to see their parent but behind them, emerging from the fog is a enemy who kills A in front of B, B then tries to aid A but theyre already dead. This is so chichi I can't stand it but I like the idea, any idea what I can do?
This is a great question, anon!
Firstly, the broad strokes of your question concerns the use of cliche in writing. I’m going to be controversial here, and say that you should be clear about your aims. What are the goals of your piece?
Are you aiming for literary excellence?
Are you writing what makes you happy/what you feel your readers will enjoy?
If you know your goals, that should make it easier. If that means you need to defy cliche as much as possible, then do that, but cliches (and by extension, tropes) exist for a reason. They either provide a storytelling convenience or it’s simply because people LIKE them. Using too many could be seen as lazy, but personally? I think many writers get caught up in “analysis-paralysis” over this, when they probably shouldn’t, because I believe a trope deployed effectively here-and-there is fine.

I’ve seen this in more anime than I could count. Dragonball practically made a whole franchise out of it. Despite that, I NEVER get bored of it. It’s cliche as all hell but that doesn’t bother me.
However, there are many levels of cliche in writing. The two I should say to most be concerned about are “narrative” and “textual”.
A narrative cliche is what you describe; a sequence in your book which you feel tells a cliche series of events.
A textual cliche is where you use words and phrases in a manner that seems cliche. The best example of this I can think of is “… then all hell broke loose.”
Personally, as a reader, I’m less concerned about the former and more about the latter, but that’s just me. I guess what I’m saying here is that while a scene in your book might be quite cliche, you can do your best to tell it in a non-cliche way.
In your specific case, I would go with it, if it’s the story you want to tell. However, I would suggest you make one change.
Part of the problem with this particular sequence is it sounds like something which works well in film, but can struggle in book form. The idea of having a “moment of clarity” in battle, where the sound goes muted, things go slow-mo, and your PoV character sees someone die - that’s very visual/aural.
First, I would make sure that your character who is to die does something big and loud, to help facilitate the PoV character even looking in the right direction. Ideally, you want something which creates the clear moment that sets this up the whole interaction.
Secondly, battlefields are chaotic, noisy, smelly places, and people on them are awash with adrenaline. To really make this “moment of clarity” work, I think you need to ensure that in the moments up to the event you describe, you have plenty of “viscera”. Your PoV character should be distracted by all that stuff, caught up in the melee - then when you have your “moment of clarity”, all that stuff fades into the background and you just focus on the how/what/why/when. Done well, the transition should be quite effective.

El día de hoy se inició trabajando con el tema “ Las plantas” se inició cuestionando a los educandos acerca de qué son las plantas
E: Las plantas son como las que hicimos con el maestro Miguel y sembramos en una media.
K. Las plantas son las que salen en el suelo.
M: Son las que tienes que darle agua, y tierra
A:Son las flores como el girasol.
Los alumnos realizaron un dibujo de lo que para ellos son las plantas, donde identificaron la raíz, las hojas y el tallo. En esta actividad se rescató que los 21 alumnos que asistieron a clases saben que son las plantas.
Enseguida se observó el video “Aprendamos sobre las plantas” y “La semilla de Pocoyo” donde los educandos observaron de qué manera crece una planta y que es lo que necesita. Se cuestionó a los educandos a cerca de qué es lo que se necesita para que crezca una planta

JL: Tierrita y Luz
K: Sol
A: Que la cuidemos.
Enseguida se enumeró el proceso para que crezca una planta. A cada alumno se le entregaron 4 imágenes, las cuales eran una semilla, retoño, tallo y flor, los educandos la pegaron en su cuaderno de manera ordenada y aun lado le escribieron lo que cada imagen representaba.
EVALUACIÓN
Kamila, Tadeo, Edson, José Ángel, Sol, Ernesto, Leo, Kamila, Antonio, Mauricio, Mateo, Julián, Nahomi Yareth,  Joan, Alejandro, Hector Odir, Kelly, Hector Miguel, emplean recursos propiops para producir textos, así mismo escriben las partes que conforman una planta.
Ángela presentó dificultad al identificar las partes de una planta, por este motivo no logró realizar el trabajo.
EVALUACIÓN DE LA PRÁCTICA.-
Durante el día de hoy se trabajó de manera ordenada, la mayoría de los alumnos trabajaron sin dificultad, José Luis logró realizar un trabajo completo, ya que se considera que la manera en la que se guió la actividad fue adecuada, puesto que se dictó letra por letra mientras se escribía en el pizarrón ellos lo realizaban en su cuaderno, considero que es un avance significativo en el aprendizaje de JL.
Así mismo se emplearon recursos donde se favorecieron los estilos de aprendizajes con el material empleado y las actividades.
La actitud de los alumnos fue buena, no se presentaron incidencias.
