Published: June 20, 2022
NEW YORK  —All hail, King Artur, the three-belt light heavyweight champion. WBC/IBF ruler Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs) stopped Joe Smith Jr. (28-4, 22 KOs) in the second round Saturday evening at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Beterbiev knocked down Smith three times during the one-sided beatdown, picking up Smith's WBO belt and moving one step closer to fully unifying the division.
Beterbiev dropped Smith with a clubbing right hand in the closing seconds of the opening round. Things got worse for the Long Island native in the second, as a left hook nearly sent Smith through the ropes. He rose to his feet, but the end was near. A pair of uppercuts, followed by a sweeping right hand left referee Harvey Dock no choice but to stop the fight.
"My coach told me it's not too far until I become a good boxer," Beterbiev said. "Joe’s a little bit open, and it was more easy for me to get him. {Both of us} have a good punch, and both tried to {connect} first. I'm lucky that I was first."
Sitting ringside was British contender Anthony Yarde, who may be in line for a shot at Beterbiev this fall. Beterbiev's preference is a fight with WBA champion Dmitry Bivol, who recently defeated Canelo Alvarez.
“Unification fights are more interesting, more motivating,” Beterbiev said. “I prefer unification fight. I want to be undisputed.” Ramirez Topples Nova in Featherweight Co-Feature Cuban southpaw star Robeisy Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs) announced his presence as a featherweight contender in a big way with an even bigger left hand. Ramirez knocked out the previously unbeaten Abraham Nova (21-1, 15 KOs) in the fifth round to pick up the USBA and WBO Global belts. Ramirez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, feinted with a right hand to the body and then came over the top with left that separated Nova from his senses. Ramirez said, “It was all about the strategy. I’m blessed to work with Ismael Salas, who is a genius in my corner. It really was about setting up that shot. If you watch the fight, it was about working, tapping the body until that opening was created. I knew he was dangerous, so I had to be careful, but when I saw my opening, I took it and I finished the fight.” In other results: Featherweight: Bruce Carrington (4-0, 3 KOs) RTD 5 Adrian Leyva (3-3-1, 1 KO). Carrington, the latest fistic prodigy from Brownsville, Brooklyn, authored a power punching clinic that forced Leyva to remain on his stool following the fifth round. He landed 69 of 121 power shots, including 11 of 17 in the fifth round. Leyva entered the fight riding a four-bout unbeaten streak. Welterweight: Jahi Tucker (8-0, 5 KOs) TKO 4 D'Andre Smith (11-2, 5 KOs), 2:27. Tucker, from Deer Park, New York, thrilled the home region fans with a relentless offensive display that prompted the commission to advise referee Shawn Clark to stop the fight. Tucker buzzed Smith in the second round, but Smith somehow weathered the storm to survive two more rounds. Junior Featherweight: Floyd Diaz (5-0, 1 KO) UD 6 Daniil Platonovschi (4-1, 2 KOs). Scores: 60-54 2x and 59-55. Diaz cruised to a clear points win in a battle of unbeaten prospects, and he did so with a heavy heart. Earlier Saturday, Diaz's grandfather, Juan Demetrio Diaz, passed away at the age of 68. Diaz honored his memory with a boxing tour de force. Middleweight: Troy Isley (6-0, 4 KOs) TKO 6 Donte Stubbs (6-6, 2 KOs), :38. Isley, a U.S. Olympian, became the first man to stop Stubbs in a one-sided power punching display. Isley knocked down Stubbs at the end of the fourth, then ended the fight with a straight right hand early in the sixth. Stubbs rose to his feet on wobbly legs, and referee Charlie Fitch waved it off. Junior Middleweight: Wendy Toussaint (14-1, 6 KOs) UD 8 Asinia Byfield (15-5-1, 7 KOs). Scores: 79-73 3x. Junior Middleweight: Jahyae Brown (11-0, 8 KOs) UD 6 Keane McMahon (7-3, 4 KOs). Scores: 60-54 and 58-56 2x.

Cultural appropriation. Wikka, Africa and you. A somewhat hyperbolic and violent response to the fundamental issue that has arisen thanks to modern perception of neo-witchcraft
People being like “I’m a witch” and I just look at them for a good minute. Like, y’all is wikkan, not just witches, different (related) things. Like, you can’t call yourself a witch with no knowledge of the different sects and groups, and some history. Are you wikkan? Do you practice native witchcraft? African witchcraft? Are you a Crowley loving chucklefuck? It’s like being “““Christian”““ and then not knowing you denomination. Like, cool, so you believe in the rule of 3 and protective wards. Okay, now where does the power for the wards come from? What enforces the rule of 3? Is there heaven? Hell? Reincarnation? Answer those and then you have at least a little more context. I was raised wikkan, I know my stuff. And it’s so incredibly infuriating to have people who not only do not actually understand, but also don’t care to understand co-opting my family’s faith. If you believe in witchcraft then that’s fantastic, but please remember that it’s a religion, not an aesthetic. And astrology and listening to Girl in Red doesn’t make you a witch. So, here’s some fun denominational stuff a lot of people forget: Allister Crowley was  a rapacious cad who ordered his followers to kill the founder of wikka because of perceived disrespect Wikka is the most popular witchcraft faith, not the only one. The historical prominence of Abrahamic witches is important, and should not be forgotten. African witchcraft was heavily incorporated into the more popular forms of USA witchcraft which are actively practiced and is therefore important to study (I can say no more beyond this as I am hilariously poorly versed in it) Classical witchcraft, like Peter Stubbe or a number of other medieval people practiced was undoubtably evil. Do not try to resurrect it. (for reference this was a combination of some old English myths and Satanism) Norse paganism =/= witchcraft, all thumbs are finger, not all fingers are thumbs. Witch is gender neutral, warlock is a different term. Both warlock and wizard are masculine. Sorcerer is gender neutral, however it also implies a degree of cosmic power that simply doesn’t exist (unless you buy into messiah based faiths, in which case it did/does). Also witch isn’t always gender neutral, but it’s essentially gender neutral now Witchcraft is still a crime in some nations, and was only recently removed from the books in the UK. White European imperialism is the whole reason that Voodoo exists. However that doesn’t mean voodoo is illegitimate, just that you should probably not use it as an aesthetic without being... You know, an actual practitioner (also not all voodoo believers are witches, as witchcraft is kind of only a debatable term with voodoo. And I’m also not qualified to talk about this one) Take away should be to read a book on your faith. And not copy the aesthetic of African witchcraft without cultural context. <3

Flaw in iPhone, iPads may have allowed hackers to steal data for years - Reuters
Tumblr media

Mountainhead #1
Tumblr media
Mountainhead #1 IDW Publishing 2019 Written by John Lees Illustrated by Ryan Lee Coloured by Doug Garbark Lettered by Shawn Lee     Abraham Stubbs and his father Noah roam America in a nomadic existence. Convinced they are being pursued by sinister government forces, Noah has them living off the grid, burgling houses to survive. Elsewhere, on Mount Rector, the lone survivor of a climbing expedition staggers homeward, covered in blood. Both are on an inevitable collision course with the picturesque Canadian resort town of Braeriach.     Oh yes indeed alright folks so this is a strong start to a new series from Mr. Lees. The opening here is fantastic in how it attracts the readers' attention and makes you want to know what the heck is going on here. I do like how we learn the meaning behind the issues title and how that plays into what we see going on it is a very well done addition and it also makes this weird kind of sense when it all boils down to it. Huge kudos, shoutout, to Ryan and Doug “Lee” for the visuals that accompany the narration here. One doesn't work nearly as well without the other and the symbiotic nature of how we see all of them working together, including Shawn, is our first look at what we should expect throughout the series entire run.     Meanwhile as they say we get to meet Abraham and his father Noah. There are a number of emotional things run through the readers' mind and heart here. Now I don't know how old Abraham is supposed to be but he looks like he's around 10 years old. I said early how integral it is for this writing and interiors being so integral to one another and that is so true when it comes to seeing what Abraham does and how we see him in this moment. There is some mighty fine characterisation happening here in the visuals that would never be able to come across in the writing.     The story & plot development alongside the character development here is phenomenally well done. The way we see the two come together, separate and dance around each other like some ceremonial dance around a fireplace keeps the reader glued to the story. The pacing that moves this all forward is consistent and has this way of making you feel like this is a much longer story than it really is and that's a great feeling and something that John is able to do for us. To make a standard issue count seem like an extra set of pages are here shows how talent he is when it comes to writing and crafting a story.     At first glance I was questioning some of the choices in the human form but then the further we got into the story I forgot to keep looking for them. I am the guy who champions the utilisation of backgrounds in books but I don't have to do that here all I have to do is sit back and ogle the work he's doing here. This is how you do if folks this is how you use the attention to detail, the varying weights of the linework to create such amazing detail work in every aspect from the main character to the backgrounds. The composition in the panels and perspectives we see as the utilisation of the page layouts all show the stellar eye for storytelling. The creativity and imagination is stupendous and then the colour work that we see is extremely well utilised. Daytime, night time it doesn't matter we see some lovely colours and the variation of the tones and hues is so nice to see. P.S. That old man in the chair yeah that's spectacular!      I think that the emotional turmoil that we see within the pages of this book is far and away some of the best reading you are going to do. I mean seeing what Abraham is going through, what he has to look forward to and how John takes the reader off script engaging the readers' mind with what about, when did, how does, and many more questions. John makes you think and that's a freaking amazing thing as the layers we are introduced to compound with what we see. There is a mystery from the opening that we see in the ending and as Abraham's life takes a new turn in ways he has no control over we're seeing what could be the Fall's must have book. And John's announcement that he's here and he's here to stay, with talent such as this all I gotta say is pull up a chair.
