I picked Angharad. She just didn't deserve to die after all that fight, and I know she'd made plans for the future that would have changed the world.
Every time I watch MMFR, I hold my breath a little bit hoping Angaharad will survive just this once. Obviously, it's silly. I love how many people recognize her in this poll! @evilasiangenius says, "the leader of the revolution should have had the chance to build that new world that was only dream of" and it felt so good to see those words. It's so great to see Angharad recognized so fully. I think a casual viewer *could* see Furiosa as the leader, but she wasn't. She was the vehicle, The War Rig personified.
And in the end, that's actually why I think, narratively, that she's perhaps one of the most important people to die. The rest of my revolutionaries - at the very least Capable and Cheedo - I felt were on this ride holding onto Angharad's coat tails. Even Furiosa was until that point in it out of a sense of vengeance, not community or revolution.
Angharad's passing forces them all to find their own reasons for what they were doing. I think it also forces them to see the courage it takes in reaching for a new world, one that isn't just like the last but under a new leader.
Could these things have all happened if she lives? Absolutely! But it makes space for it to happen in the few hours we get in the movie. Between that and the added commentary the movie is making about sexual violence, it's the one death that I don't think could have been substituted for anyone else barring Nux. What it does to the narrative is so beautiful.
AND YET!!
I wish she could have lived.
I wish she could have seen Dag adopt so fully into the Vulvalini's culture.
I wish she could have seen Furiosa's desperation to save Toast.
I wish she could have seen Capable lead, to know what it is to find a mind in pain and hold out hope and see it light someone up from the inside.
I wish she could have seen Cheedo's bravery, in pretending to go back only to hold out a hand to the woman who's hellbent on changing her world, all so they could make a new one.
I wish she could have seen The Mother's, unprompted, out of a need to stop suffering, open the floodgates and sustain The Wretched.
I wish I could have seen her reaching into the crowds as they rose up to the Citadel and pulled up the hurt and lost and desperate with the promise of food and shelter and water.
If anyone deserved that, it was Angharad. And oh, how it hurts that she died before she could see all of what her spark ignited.

Angharad releases sublime 'Motherland' debut via Libertino
Emerging with an intense amalgamation of genre's, impressive debut long-player from Swansea based singer-songwriter 'Angharad' is certainly an interesting listen that flits accross traditional 'perfect pop', disco, Americana, Folk Pop, and extends to the darkest depths of avant garde experimental noise with spoken word.
Stand out tracks are 'Postpartum' which is certianly the darkest and most experiemental song on 'Motherland', self titled album opener boasts downtempo beats and jazzy sax which comes accross as a fantastic foreward and sets the vibe. 'Don't Burn Bridges' stops you in your tracks, beautiful piano and superbly orchestrated strings carry you away to the 'Motherland'.
Angharad's eclectic debut is a sublime testament to the beauty of creating life, living and enjoying it, and whatever it brings.
ANGHARAD releases her anticipated debut album 'Motherland' via Libertino Records.  Deemed as an artist and songwriter 'with fire, passion and unflinching honesty at the core of all her music' Angharad's music has been described by Deb Grant, BBC 6 Music as 'Provocative' and "A confident and positive ‘call to arms’ for women in the music industry" by Cassie Fox of Loud Women
Angharad Added:
"My mother is also a musician, but took a back seat from her musical career for some 15 years in order to focus on raising me and my sister. Even before I was ready for children, it played on my mind how could I follow a career in music and become a mother. I used to play out different scenarios in my mind, such as giving myself a certain amount of years, then a change of career. When the time came, I wasn’t ready for a career change. I felt I had more to offer creatively than ever before. I’d reached an age where I had knowledge, confidence and useful networks to really progress to the next level. I wasn’t prepared to let all that go simply because I’d decided to start a family. So far, starting a family has enhanced my creative output. I just need to be flexible, and open to thinking differently about how to manage it and get it out there. My wish is to see the industry being as open to these changes as me, and every other mother who’s tirelessly figuring out how to do both.”
Motherland – Angharad
I am mother . These are the first words we hear after hitting play on Swansea-based [genre: e.g. pop-folk storyteller] Angharad’s debut album Motherland, and this affirmation resounds across the twelve tracks that follow, revealing the gravity of what initially appears to be a simple statement but is in fact an assertion weighted by the story of mothers and motherhood across the ages. I am strong. I am gentle. I am mountainwoman. I am nourisher . I am life-giver . I am all you need right now. I am the moon and the stars. I am everything to you. I am your world.
It’s said that early motherhood is simultaneously the happiest and hardest period of time a mother can experience, and this is reflected by the juxtaposition of the dreamlike spoken-word jazzscape of title track ‘Motherland’ and the bass-driven midnight-feed nightmare of ‘Postpartum’. In ‘Motherland’ we listen as the tidal pull of the moon ushers new life in – “nocturnal and luminous” – while in the album’s first single ‘Postpartum’ both music and mother unravel in an unapologetic cacophony of fatigue and repetition: “I’m exhausted and I’m broken, exhausted and I’m broken, I’m exhausted and I’m broken…get off my tits.”
As the songs that open the album, these two compositions couldn’t be more different, but as Angharad points out “...this is exactly what motherhood is like. It’s the joys and horrors.
Elation and despair . I put those songs next to each other because that’s how it is in real life – you can feel both emotions simultaneously .”
Although Angharad is an experienced musician, perhaps best-known as part of revivalist Welsh folk band Calan, Motherland represents her first foray into songwriting – something which has long been an ambition. “I’ve always felt like I had a lot to say , but I presumed that someone else somewhere would be saying the same things. It took me so long to realise nobody else can tell my story .”
However , it was the double isolation of experiencing early motherhood during Covid lockdowns that finally made her pull on this songwriting thread. “I’ve always collaborated with others when it comes to music, but lockdown forced me to work alone. I’ve written melodies in the past, but never lyrics. I began with making up songs to get my daughter Tanwen to sleep, and then I’d find myself fine-tuning them during daily walks with her in the pram, or making up new ones. I’d never sung before but, after becoming a mother , finding my voice was both a necessity and a gift.”
Motherland Tracklist
1. Motherland 2. Postpartum 3. Little baby embryo 4. I don’t know how 5. Don’t burn bridges 6. Because I’m a woman 7. Hey, there’s always the night 8. Time, time again 9. Hormone called love 10. Every inch of you 11. Hwiangerdd Tanwen 12. Babi ni

WIP INTRO; The Unkind Current [the "bog witch wip"]
Tumblr media
Title: The Unkind Current
Genre: swamp spooky, magical realism, sort-of-horror, weird fiction, fairytale
Setting: think if the Everglades met the deepest pits of Louisiana but they're definitely out to get you
Tropes: shitty spooky religion, rivals to lovers(??), an unwilling hero, fairytale retelling (kinda), sentient swamp, are-they-actually-in-love?, denying destiny, colonization bad, pls leave nature alone for the love of god
Summary: One hundred years ago, Angharad realized the destruction that her home was causing to her beloved swamp, and chose to ignore it. denying her destiny, she fell into an eternal slumber and let the bog take over. In the present time, Edythe gets called home because her village is being overtaken by the swamp that she has devoted her life to worshipping. Her mission? To go and wake the mythical forest witch and get her help in stopping the swamp from ruining her home. But does Edythe even WANT her home to be saved? And will this forest witch even want to help her?
Characters:
Angharad: a self-proclaimed woman of the bog who chose to devote not just her life, but her body itself, to what lies beneath the currents. She didn't go to sleep because she was trying to avoid responsibility, no, but because she decided that humanity deserved what it was getting. A tall, sinewy woman with tangled brown curls and a large, crooked nose. Appreciates the fungus growing out of her left eye socket and considers it an accessory.
Edythe: your down-home everyday swamp priestess, recently returned from her trip to The City, which she hated. She's not entirely certain why she's the one who was asked to save the village, I mean, after all, hasn't she been devoting her life to a swamp that is supposed to destroy her in the end? Why's it such a bad thing if it does? Edythe is decently short, at least shorter than Angharad, and maybe once had blonde hair, and it would probably be blonde again if she ever deigned to wash it. She seems small, and quaint, but absolutely will ruin you if necessary.

Capable and Angharad from Mad Max: Fury Road (as played by Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) but as autumnal cottagecore-academia witches.
[Image ID: Art of Capable and Angharad from Mad Max: Fury Road as witches in a modern AU in a coffee shop. Capable is a slender white girl. She’s sitting on a dark brown counter in front of a window suggesting the sunset; the wall is a lighter brown. She’s staring out the window. Her red hair is in a messy bun over her shoulder and she’s wearing a baggy light brown sweater, a dark brown skirt with red and off-white plaid, brown knee socks, and brown Oxfords. In front of her is an end table, on top of which sit two slender wands with orange and gold crystals atop them. Angharad is sitting in a burgundy armchair and holding a sage-green thermos. She’s looking at Capable. She has long blonde hair half-pulled back with an off-white ribbon and she wears a long-sleeved off-white dress with beige hearts on it and ruffles around the neckline. She’s a slender white woman. /.End ID]
