This "human rights activist" knows the truth, though. She tweets in English to ensure that Palestinians are viewed as innocent victims - but in Arabic media, everyone knows that he was a member of the PFLP. Not only because the PFLP controlled his funeral:
Tumblr media
But the PFLP news site explicitly said that he was killed while fighting Israeli troops! It said, "he died during an armed clash he fought with the occupation army forces on the grounds of the revolutionary camp in Bethlehem." And "the PFLP confirmed that Comrade Manna was one of the comrades who always advanced the ranks to confront the occupation’s crimes against the Dheisheh camp, where he rose today alongside the arrest of a number of comrades." Interestingly enough, the PFLP doesn't mention his career as a baker. Is Hussaini a human rights activist or a propagandist? Is there any difference nowadays?

The thing with news sources and deciding what's trustworthy and what's not is that when you see criticism of Aljazeera (which to be clear is not a great news source about anything other than Palestine) is that they completely neglect to mention that each regional section of Al-Jazeera has different people in charge of it, different contributors, different sources.
By all means, analyze your sources and understand what information you're getting but to say outright that ALL of what AlJazeera reports EVER is wrong is inherently meant to discredit Palestinian journalists in a way that no other journalist who is not Palestinian and NOT directly experiencing the war in Gaza has been discredited. Surprisingly (not really but), a lot of Palestinians in Gaza are employed by AlJazeera because it's difficult for them to find employment elsewhere.
And again, I do not love AlJazeera. I think they do plenty of faulty journalism and reporting and I actively avoid them for most news sources. But RIGHT NOW with everything going on in Gaza, they're probably one of the most trustworthy ones because of their first hand accounts and willingness to publish Palestinian voices, which many, MANY news stations refuse to do. I especially encourage the Arabic version of AlJazeera!
Like Haartz has like... 4 Palestinians on their editorial team max, and they have EVEN LESS people on the ground in Gaza whereas we have dozens of reporters from Gaza on Al-Jazeera, many of which have died. The way to fact check your news is you find how many times they link factual evidence (like videos of experiences, primary accounts, primary quotes) and compare it with circumstance of publishing.
Here are some ways to fact check and questions to ask, even when looking at Al Jazeera:
Is this a first hand account? If not, does it name a person who experienced this first hand?
If they cite/name a person who experienced it first hand, are they a trustworthy person? What are their ties to the situation? Why would they report this, have they reported situations like this in the past?
What would the person reporting gain from reporting this? A Palestinian with an Instagram post about their life in Gaza has much less to gain than an Israeli soldier publishing their experience in Gaza, for example.
In the first hand account, are there actions or evidence that is corroborated? IE: There was a video of an Israeli soldier abducting a blonde Palestinian, and there was a Human Rights Org that reported child abductions from evidence gather by an on the ground reporter. There is less of a chance that this is false, therefore.
If you don't see other news sources reporting this (ie, you don't see CNN/NYT/BBC/Fox/any other western-led media outlet) then ask: Why would they not report it? Does that mean it's false? Maybe not. Many Euro-american sources spend MONTHS before they talk about an issue (think: Washington post article "questioning" the evidence of Hamas in Al-Shifaa hospital more than a month after the raid happened)
Defining "Trustworthy":
What is their history on reporting events? Are they someone who is well known in whatever community they represent?
Think: Ghassan Abu-Sitta, a world renowned doctor. When he reports something with his name attached, he is putting his entire reputation on the line. Therefore, it is more likely he is telling the truth.
Are they someone who has any real, structural power over the situation? Maha Hussaini, for example, cannot change her circumstances because a ceasefire relies on other people separate from her, a journalist. Therefore, she has less of a reason to lie about things happening to her.
For the news source: what are their ties to the situation? CNN, for example, has stated they have their content reviewed by the IDF. Wael Al-Dahdouh, before he was evacuated, was providing first hand accounts of situation, meaning its difficult for him to fake anything or misrepresent.
What else has this person/news source reported? What are their political leanings — not just left/right, but what are their general stances on a variety of issues?
How many people who are part of the community impacted are part of reporting on this (IE: How many Palestinian POVs are shared, how many Israeli POVs are shared, what are the POVs of the people shared in general?).
Can someone I personally trust vouch for this person? If not, can I ask someone I trust to look over this person/agency and tell me their opinion?
There's for sure more I'm forgetting but these are some ways I personally check my facts and information as a quick rundown. And I see this issue of not knowing how to fact check happen ALL OVER the place, on both sides. So I really, highly encourage everyone to engage with sources more honestly!
You'll make mistakes, everyone does! I do as well! But try to be vigilant about these things so we can ensure that we're spreading accurate information and try to correct information when possible! There's no 100% unbiased source so I encourage you to compare/contrast information and your understandings of the world to fully comprehend the situation!
Please use these questions when checking ANY news source, even Al-Jazeera!

Mylog: Ujian hidup
Kemarin aink tadarus, uda nyampe surat maryam. Sejak masuk syawal frekuensi tadarus aink berkurang drastis.
Parah banget pula
Tumblr media
Mengandung, sendirian tanpa kerabat tanpa suami.
Tumblr media
Ampe maryam pun pernah pengen mati aja ketika mendapat ujian.
Tumblr media
Tapi Allah Maha Pengasih, diutuslah Jibril. Maryam dikasih makan minum supaya senang. Biar happy aja meski tengah diuji.
Ujian berikutnya ketika nabi Isa lahir dan Maryam pulang kampung. Mudik ke rumah bawa bayi tanpa bawa suami. Oww tentu jadi bahan pergunjingan keluarga besar.
Tumblr media
Keras banget sih ini redaksi kalimatnya. "Bapakmu bukan orang ga bener, ibumu juga bukan *****"
Drop banget mental kalo diginiin, apalagi kalo liat track record keluarga maryam yang dari keluarga baik baik.
Tapi nabi Isa a.s dikasih mukjizat
Tumblr media
Ukhti sholehah gitu loh
Tapi ujiannya emang dibikin agak laen

What are some Arabic names you consider beautiful? I.e. for men, women, and gender neutral/unisex names if that’s a thing too (sorry, I’m very unfamiliar with Arabic naming conventions)
Would also love to hear from your Arabic-speaking followers if they wanna chime in too!
oohhhh!!
for male names, i love ahmed, zakariya, hassan, zayd, hythem, and hamza.
for female names, i love yasmin, samirah, dalia, fajr, maha, and hadeel.
for unisex names, i love misk, salam, manar, rayan, ward, qamar, and nour.
some names are interchangable with gender, for example, "rayan" (ryan) is typically a boys name but recently some girls have been named that, so it became gender neutral, etc etc.
ty for asking!

Hello Maha’s followers, the rude one before the nice ones.
Lets start with a fact that we all know..Maha can speak 3 languages fluently ; German, Arabic and English. She is outstanding in writing, especially in those languages. She likes to add a lil bit of spicy french fo make it more realistic, since Kylian is a French player.
Moving on, on my side ; I speak two languages fluently and I started learning french on my own and now am able to speak and identify stuff , Does that mean I mastered the language? Non.
Do you french speakers mastered the language? Non.
I am fluent in english and I have god damn 3 certificates and I still make mistakes , Kylian makes mistakes in his own language . So i beg your all goddamn pardon !!! Dont come to a german/arabic writer trying to add some french sentences and criticize her ( MAY I ADD THAT THEY ARENT WRONG ONE BIT, U JUST LOOK AT THEM FROM FUCKING GRAMMAR PERSPECTIVE AND HE IS GOD DAMN TELLING HER TO SWALLOW SO SHUT THE FUCK UP)
Nevertheless, I wouldn’t have judged you if u pointed out actualy grammar mistakes not how Kylian told the reader to swallow. Anon? Grow up♥️.
Je me demande si tu écris bien en français, anon ?
Maybe they need to swallow something something to calm the f*ck down..
Tumblr media
I’m just enjoying how they’re taking things way too seriously like they’re about to make the world a better place.

hellooo with your permission, i am coming back to bother you with the Indian James headcanons 🙏
assuming they're from Maharashtra and they speak Marathi (and Hindi? i'm assuming most families know more than just one language) at home, what would he call his parents? and what would they call him and each other? I've heard "jaan" a lot but I'm not sure how accurate that is and whether that works for Marathi too. are there any other endearment terms they could use? like love, sunshine, darling etc in English.
also i've been wondering if there's any exclamations/expressions etc that can be used within English speech without making it sound unnatural. like in Arabic we say "basmala/mashallah" for good luck or "inshallah" when we hope that something happens etc and it's integrated in English speech very naturally. wondering if there's anything of that sort?
Okay imma go step by step here. In India, especially where I live (Maharashtra yay hehe) it's pretty normal to know like three or more languages. I myself— plus my family— speak Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati and Marwadi, and even though we can't speak them we understand Punjabi and Bengali. So you assume correctly that they speak more than one language at home. Especially my family, where we know a bunch of non Indian languages as well, for business purposes.
Assuming James is Maratha, he would call his mother Aai (pronounced Aa-ee) and his father Baba (Mum and Dad). I have this headcanon that when he wants to annoy them he calls them Matoshree and Pitashree lmao (formal terms for Mother and Father in Hindi/Sanskrit).
"Jaan" means "life", and it's pretty accurate even if it's Urdu tbh, a lot of parents call their kids stuff like jaan, hayat (which you already know the meaning of), laadli (darling in Hindi), maajha baal (my baby- Marathi). If you wanted nicknames in Marathi you'll be good to go with bubdi (bubba), laadkaa or laadki (darling in masc and fem), or sonpari (golden fairy, usually for girls) and Sonu (dear, used for children).
Exclamation sounds can be "arey!" (uh-ray) which is "hey!" and "aai ga!" (aa-ee guh) which is like "oh mother!". They're just one word each, but they can be used in like 50 different situations lmao. Arey can be used for calling someone's attention ("arey come here a second will you?"), to express frustration with someone ("areyyy, why are you like this?"), exasperation ("arey yaar!" yaar is slang for friend) and a bajillion other stuff. Aai ga is used as an exclamation mark for when you're surprised, or got hurt, and in place of "oh God!". We don't have specific phrases that mean good luck or inshallah, but Urdu still uses both mashallah and inshallah so you'll be okay i think. But James probably wouldn't use them bc he's not a Muslim yk, and Hindu people usually use the name of the god they're praying on on swearing on, so there's that. We say stuff like "hay bhagwan" ("oh, Vishnu". Bhagwan is one of the innumerable names of the Lord Vishnu). Or "har har Mahadev" ("glory be to Lord Shiva". Maha-dev literally translates to Great God, but it is one of the well known names of the God of Destruction). We do use "arey deva" (oh god) as well. "Jai shree Ram"(hail to the Lord Ram) or "jai shree krishna" or "jai shree ganpati" (ganpati is what most marathi people call Lord Ganesha) is used when we're beginning something and we want to make the start auspicious. The phrases are kind of used as "may this go well and end well" ykwim? This is hard to explain I hope you get what i wanna say lol.
Anyways, this is it, I hope this helps, and you can ask me anything and i will answer. Not always so quickly but I will. Have a good day!

To see the status of their work permit validity, Palestinian workers in Israel sign up to an Israeli smartphone application called al-Monasseq (Arabic for the coordinator). If the work permit is revoked, they get notified with a text message. But a few days after Israel launched its attack on Gaza, the Israeli authorities revoked all work permits without informing the workers, before conducting a large-scale detention campaign against them. "They broke into our dorms, handcuffed and blindfolded us, then detained us without allowing any of us to take anything," Ahmed said. "It was around 12pm when we arrived in the place where we were interrogated. I was left alone in a cell for eight hours, before I was taken to a room where an Israeli officer interrogated me for hours." "He asked me where I lived in Gaza, I answered him, then he showed me my house on a big screen to show me he already knew where exactly I lived. He then asked me about Hamas and other Palestinian factions, I told him I did not know anything. "He tried to pressure me but I honestly have nothing to do with them so I could not answer."

REFLEKSI OKTOBER 2023: BULAN PALING PENUH AIR MATA
Efeknya baru berasa sekarang, menjadi GERDian of the galaxy.
Life is unfair. Get used to it.

Oktober 2023 memang bulan penuh air mata. Sebelum Al-Qur’an dijadikan last seen paling sering, tugas kita masih jauh dari kata selesai.
Simpang Empat, penghujung Oktober 2023

نصب : lelah (Fisik)
Lelah (Mental)
Kegundahan atau kegelisahan (yang belum terjadi)
حزن : kegundahan atau kegelisahan (yang sudah terjadi)
غم : kesedihan atau kegundahan (yang sedang terjadi)
أذا: luka (akibat suatu kegiatan), misal tertusuk duri
Dan kalau kesemuanya berkumpul jadi satu disebut كرب

shalom sister. i love your blog and your writing. reading your posts always fills me with fire, i can tell you have a good heart. donating to your campaign makes me feel so good because i trust you and truly you are doing gds work. anyway i wanted to ask you a question!
when i hear new things from gaza, stories of hamas doing X and IOF doing Y, i ask around and i’m not sure what parts of that story is true, if any. anyway idk what to believe all i know is that israel is committing acts of genocide and while the rest of the world is allowing this greatest evil, israel pretends that to be jewish is to be a colonizer. anyway some of my family are zionists, but i cannot sway them because they only know farsi persian and hebrew, aka only trust extremely biased sources.
anyway i am fluent in english farsi and hebrew but my arabic is trash ): so i feel like i can’t get the full picture from palestinians. all i can read are bonkers iranian papers and the disgusting zionist articles, it’s horrible because i know they’re both lying, just about different things. a palestinian opinion is the only opinion i care about right now! anyway it got me thinking. i just wanted to know if you have tips for verifying online research? or go-to non arabic websites? or even a translation app haha. i just want my family to see the truth!
shalom<3
shalom! thank you so much for reaching out, i really appreciate it.
personally, i use different sources for different material. i use middle east eye (specifically maha hussaini) and also mahmoud abusalama for videos of what it's like in the north. i use the electronic intifada interview podcasts to learn about specific things happening (i just finished watching this one about the collapse of healthcare in gaza). i would check out @northgazaupdates on here too. there's euromedmonitor as well.
and really, there are a lot of diaspora palestinians who are relaying what their family tells them, and they post on twitter a lot. someone i know does this is samah fadil. there's also @el-shab-hussein who translates things from Mona. here's mohammad smiry who is in gaza and tweets primarily in english. dr. mustafa elmasri also tweets in english too.
i would use al-jazeera, i have a fact checking guide here about any news source really. i don't use it as much but there's also the palestine chronicle. sometimes i use quds news network.
i really don't know much about hebrew media so i can't really tell you about sources i recommend there. i don't know if @bringmemyrocks or @rodeodeparis can perhaps provide some input?
i will say, if you're looking for hebrew palestinian media, i dont think there's too much because there's a ridiculous amount of censorship in '48 right now (honestly it's been going on for years atp) but what a lot of palestinians are doing is relying on internal networks. if you want, there are some israeli historians like Ilan Pappe and Avi Shlaim but I'm not sure if they write in hebrew. but they for sure write in english and provide a historical perspective from within israeli society itself.
this is what comes to mind rn honestly, but i haven't even touched on instagram because i haven't been on it in a while. i might add on later if i remember any really vital ones that i recommend.

A Jihad for Love (preceded by a short film called In the Name of Allah) is an award-winning international documentary on Homosexuality & Islam. It took total six years to make this groundbreaking documentary.Parvez Sharma took the risk to film this documentary in most dangerous country (like Islamic Republic of Iran,Iraq, Saudi Arabia,Pakistan,Egypt).Homosexuality is a punishable crime in most Muslim World.
The work that Sharma started with this film has become a staple in many books on Islam and at U.S. University libraries. The website Faith in Equality put it at number 9 in a list of LGBT films about faith.IMDb rates the film at 13 on its list of 58 titles under the category of "Best documentaries on religion, spirituality & cults".The film first premiered at the TIFF in 2007, and has been screened to great acclaim at several film festivals around the world. The film went on to win 15 other international awards.
Plot
At starting it shows a glimpse of Islam across the globe. The film first featured Hendrick Muhsin, a South African,Pakistani Gay & Muslim. He is also the first Out Gay Imam of Africa.Filmmaker Parvez got into the deep of Hendicks's personal life struggles, his understanding of Islam & reconciliation of intersecting identities.
Mazen, an Egyptian effeminate muslim was arrested in 2001, in a gay nightclub named Queen Boat.He was beaten, forced to stand trial twice on "debauchery" charges & sentenced to a total of 4 years in prison, where he was raped. He eventually moved to Paris.Mazen also has left his families & friends in Egypt.
Sana is a Black Lesbian refugee, & a victim of FGM.She has a deeper understanding of Islam & told Parvez that Queerness is not against Islam.Sana didn't have any kind of sexual relation with any women. But she had intimate loving relations with women.Like others, she came to France as a refugee.Sana befriend with Maryam & Mazen.
Maryam is Moroccan-born queer womxn who lives in Paris. Her girlfriend Maha lives in Egypt. Both lovers met each other on Bint-al Nas - a meeting site for Arab LBTQ womxn.Maryam still believes that she deserves punishment for her lesbian sexual relationship. Both have survived abusive marriages and can only share their love for each other in private.Maryam & Maha go on a shared journey of search and discovery of female homosexuality. In Al-Azhar, they discover an old bookstore where they find a copy of the Fiqh al-Sunnah(The Laws of the Prophet). In the heart of an ancient mosque in the Citadel, they discover beautiful Islamic calligraphy as they declare their impossible love for each other.

Ferda & Kiymet are a happy couple in Turkiye.Kiymet belongs from a conservative family. In her early Kiymet's marriage was fixed with a man.Kiymet's marriage ended up at divorce. Then she found Ferda, her soulmate.Ferda's mom is very supportive & tolerant of sexuality.Ferda is a devout sufi queer muslim, who honors Rumi - a prominent sufi icon for both LGBTQ+ & Straight Muslims.

The filmmaker also documented the diverse tolerance of sexuality in sufi traditions (Pakistan,India & Turkey).
Is it the first film on Islam & Homosexuality?
''A Jihad for Love'' is called world's 1st film on Islam & Homosexuality.A Jihad for Love would be an international feature documentary film rather than world's first film on LGBT muslims. However there are several films that focused on LGBTQ muslim or Queerness in Islam. For Example:
Road to Love (2001)
Act of Faith (2002)
Haremde dört kadin (1965)
Hammam al-Malatily (1973)
Köçek (1975)
Ihtiras Firtinasi (1984)
My Beautiful Laundrette (1985)
Marcides (1993)
Istanbul Beneath My Wings (1996)
Hamam (1997)
Lola & Billy the Kid (1999)
Production
Bismillah (In the name of Allah) was considered as an early working title for this documentary.Among muslims, the word Bismillah is very auspicious & used before beginning actions, speech, writing. But the tittle was not considered as the final title of this film due to controversy.
A Jihad for Love is produced by Halal Films, in association with the Sundance Documentary Film Fund,Channel 4 (UK),ZDF (Germany),Arte (France-Germany),Logo (US) & SBS Australia. The director & producer Parvez Sharma & co-producer Sandi Dubowski raised more than a million dollars over a 6 years period to make the film.
In an interview with The NY Times,Parvez Sharma said that he "would shoot touristy footage on the first 15 minutes & the last 15 minutes of a tape", with interviews for documentary in between, to avoid having his footage seized at customs. He compiled 400 hours of footage from a dozen countries ranging from Iraq to Pakistan to the UK.The nature of the work placed him at considerable personal risk.He adopted hardcore guerrilla film-making tactics, pretending to be a tourist in one country,a worker for an AIDS charity in another country.Wherever he went,he asked his queer friends to keep copies of footage and destroy the tapes once he had successfully smuggled the masters out of the country.
During his filmmaking Parvez traveled several countries including Pakistan, Iraq, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, USA, UK, Turkey, France, Saudi Arabia, South Africa,[...].
Interviews
In an interview with NY Times magazine,Parvez Sharma said,"Being gay and Muslim myself,I knew that this film had to be about us all coming out— as Muslims. It's about claiming the Islam that has been denied to us." With a target audience of "faithful Muslims," he undertook a variety of outreach tactics, including leafleting mosques, blanketing MySpace, screening in Astoria for 15 key progressive Muslim leaders. In an interview to Der Spiegel, Sharma explained the significance of the title: "I'm not looking at jihad as battle.I'm looking at the greater jihad in Islam, which is the jihad as the struggle with the self.I also thought it was really compelling to take a word that only has one connotation for most -- to take that, reclaim it and put it in the same phrase as love, which is universal.I really think it explains it very well.
Film Screening
A Jihad for Love first premiered in Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF) in September 2007.At its premier, the director was given a security guard for safety reasons. After this film festival A Jihad for Love got huge applaud internationally.A Jihad for Love film premiered as the opening film of Panorama Documente of the Berlin Film Festival in February 2008.

Film Festival of Indonesia.Although singapore banned the film from festival in 2008 due to its sensitive subject.
Popularity
A Jihad for Love film's sale and broadcast on NDTV, South Asia's largest network in 2008 would have a "remarkable" impact on this LGBTQ cause. "NDTV's broadcast has in effect made the film available to over one billion viewers in India,Bangladesh,Pakistan, & large portions of the Middle East and Africa. The various distributors and their Total Rating Points in European television, the Indian/South-Asian sale with its claimed footprint of 15 billion viewers, the theatrical release & the purportedly large numbers of Netflix viewers made the filmmakers and the TRP experts arrive at a number of 8 million total viewers calculated over a period of four years for this documentary.
International Muslim Dialogue Project
Immediately after the film's theatrical launch around the USA,Parvez & Sandi launched the International Muslim Dialogue Project on 2008.The aim of the project was to organize screenings of the film in Muslim Capitals.Sharma called it the "Underground Network Model" of film distribution. He invented this model sending unmarked DVD's of the film with friends & colleagues to Muslim capitals across the world with full permission to sell pirated copies. Some of the boldest were Beirut,Cairo,Karachi, eight cities in Indonesia & Kuala Lumpur
The film was screened privately screened in Iran,Palestine,Bangladesh and Somalia.
