Okay internet, I'm sneaking this WIP of a gift for my boyfriend online. Don't spoil the surprise! Wanted to draw a nice art of Gardevoir (his favorite pokemon) and turned to ballet for pose ideas. Quite happy so far.

XXII. Dani hrvatske knjige i riječi – Dani Balinta Vujkova, Subotica 27. i 28. listopada 2023.

The Acrobats
The Acrobats (1880 - 1883)
By Paul Gustave Dore
After visiting the Ringling Museum I was trying to find an artwork that would really stick out to me, and after some time I came upon the sculpture "The Acrobats" and it really grabbed my attention. I will be talking and explaining my visual analysis of this sculpture. To start off. the sculpture is entirely made out of bronze and stands about 4 to 5 feet tall from its pedestal and is about 6 to 7 inches wide. Not too much color in this sculpture because of the material, but stands out with its detail and shape. Regarding that, the sculpture resembles 10 men holding each other up with such muscular strength and integrity, the name acrobats really encompasses the real meaning of this sculpture. The sculpture is designed meticulously from the bottom all the way to the top with one strong man at the bottom holding everything as the support of the structure, the next man above creates the same purpose but starts the complex portion of their stance. The rest of the 8 men purposely and harmoniously wrap around and create a unique design with the final man at the top desperately but powerfully exerts himself to rest of the men. This sculpture highly emphasizes unity and variety with the unity being the one entire like structure of all the men and variety with the mix of men holding each other together. This sculpture really made me feel very inspired but not only from the amount of time and detail that went into this sculpture, but the fact that it gives me the impression that this performance is happening right in front of me; revealing an intensely difficult feat right before my eyes. I think it delivers these emotions and feelings because of how well it was designed and because there are human beings performing an act so incredible it's astonishing to see. After some time and research it occurred with me that the sculpture was part of the Art Nouvea ("New Art") movement and with not a lot of information about it I can see that the artist Paul Gustave Dore intended to create something impactful in the final years of his life. He was born in 1832 and died in 1883 which was when he was creating this sculpture. I think this message was to implore the support people have on each other and to never give way to false truths about yourself and others and I think it delivers this message perfectly. Finally, I would like to take note and say that the importance of this piece to society is to show people the great lengths man will go through to achieve something that seems impossible. I chose this piece of art because I myself like to workout and this piece resembled strength and integrity which I associate with heavily.
