I thought abt where to put this fic and ended up choosing fav because this was so pretty. we dont get an official relationship in the end, only a confession of sorts and even tho i kind of wanted more, i get it??? why they stopped where they did. the entire story is just pretty as fuck, atsumu is an already made character for the most part, we see kiyoomi's character develop in front of us and its rly good. the way the author wrote this- i- its so pretty. i like to believe that after the end, they probs kept with the late meetings where sakusa fixes atsumu's fingers and then eventually, gradually (just like we saw in the fic) they kept growing closer and get tgether eventually. i also like to believe, sakusa is good for atsumu and vice-versa. atsumu isnt as anxious anymore, he doesnt hurt himself as much, etc... growth i guess.

Yang infamously used a laser pointer on her now-girlfriend while she's stressed out, asking her in the manga anthropology if Faunus sniffs each other's butts, and all of them dressed up with animal ears and shit. ALL OF THIS IS CANONICALLY RACIST TOWARDS FAUNUS.

I had a long conversation with my mom today about how hard it was for me to be a neurodivergent child tracked into a gifted/talented program and all the ways that it fucking broke me. I still carry so much baggage from that time, and I wasn't even diagnosed properly with ADHD until a few years ago.

So, naturally, I'm reading this new Wired interview with Taika and experiencing great big extra large feelings:

Now, as I am not a medical doctor, it would be grossly inappropriate for me to claim any sort of binding diagnosis. I can only compare his behavior to my own lived experience, and when I say that reading this article felt like getting thrown into a full-length dressing mirror

I need the approval and affection of others in order to prevent imposter syndrome and rejection sensitivity dysphoria but can only handle so much before needing to withdraw. Everyone but my best friends see me as a pronounced extrovert, though I would characterize myself as one of the most introverted people I know. I spend so much time inside my head and so much energy masking just to get the social validation I need to not hate myself.

These are almost textbook descriptions of dopamine chasing behavior and perfectionism. A single mistake can ruin my week, and yet I still absolutely wing just about everything I do because I find following my instinct yields the best results.

Me neither, bruh. Me neither.

Sitting alone in a room at a computer working in silence is literally my idea of hell and I will get absolutely nothing done and hate myself the entire time.

Like I said, I'm no doctor, but if Taika Waititi is neurotypical then I'll eat my hat. I will eat several hats. We're talking ADHD at minimum, autism spectrum most likely. This article reads like the DSM as well as the after visit summary from my last doctor's appointment.

These are just more reasons I love this weirdo and hope he continues to thrive. It's inspiring to see someone being themselves and harnessing the myriad superpowers that come with being neurodivergent. While my brain can frequently be my worst enemy, I know it is capable of some of the weirdest and coolest shit and is frankly awe-inspiring. I wish I had Taika as a role model in my formative years, but I'm glad he can be here for the youngins learning about themselves now.

What inspired you to write birdcage?

Mmmm, curiosity? Desire? When I think about it I remember being super upset because there was no DFO fanfic that characterized AFO in the way I wanted him. He was either way too goofy or way too cruel to his own family. Which is fine to read but it just didn't feel... Right, so to speak?

Heck before birdcage, I wrote Isolation and Treasure Vault (And it updated edition) out of anger at reading so many AFO centric fic just being downright CRUEL and awful to Yoichi. And it not the fact he was like that, but more that was like that toward his only family member. That people write like he didn't care about his brother at all that pissed me off.

Like bruh, he could have and would have killed or tossed him aside if didn’t care. This man could not give less of a shit about people if he tried yet Yoichi is the exception. He made excuses, he conversed, he argued, and tried to convince. It clear he cares but in a twisted way and so I took the, fine I’ll do it myself approach.

That how I started writing afo centric stuff which were very much short stories. These were meant to be glimpses but I wasn’t satisfied as there was a similar issue in dad for one fanfic sometimes. Well not similar it more like it didn’t really focus on afo being his dad.

There never a source of conflict with Izuku acknowledging his dad is the worst evil. Nor an exploration of what if was aware how would they interact. What if He did care about his dad instead of just instantly hate him? What if had been spoiled and loved by his father that it causes dissonance when learns who he truly is? How do you love your dad when realize he lacks the empathy to even see things from your perspective? How do you navigate in a world that might judge you if knew who your dad is but doesn’t know you yet? How does being vaulted sheltered from the world effect someone growing up?

As well as AFO perspective on it. How does a man like him justify his own behavior? How does he see the world?

I will admit there is some self-indulgence when comes to birdcage in that every time AFO spoils Izuku it is my way of trying to soften the poor kids situation. I don't actually want him miserable, neither does AFO tho he worst at handling it and there something comforting in knowing if anything goes wrong your parent would do anything to keep you safe. It just also scary knowing he could end up going too far.

It also a slight comfort as I had issues with an over protective parent who ended up basically crippling me a bit as a person. How they were unaware and unwilling to be flexible to help the child that they believe won't leave them anyway, it wasn't on purpose but a subtle thing they did. This led to me needing to do something a bit extreme so I could find that way to independence.

This story is also a way to explore the feeling of resentment for your insecurities that your parent pushed onto you but also love for your parent knowing they truly do care. What if the parent actually gave you the tools you needed? How do you still find that independence?

So I hope everyone who reads enjoys the story. It is in a sense a coming of age story for Izuku, thus why his connection to his friends, goals and with his own father is all important. And I'm glad I committed to this story.

I'm totally fine with hedonistic Loki whose pride makes him put on an air of confidence and push people away so they can't see him being weak, but when it's laid on too thick it comes off as unrealistic and out of character.

Yes I know I skipped 16 and 17 and I'm sorry.

Overall this story was INCREDIBLE. I loved the writing style, such a good amount of angst, and an easy to follow narrative. It raised Harry like exactly how I wanted and was so cutey and sweetly and UGH. I will say I wish there was more to the plot than “everyone is sad and trying to not be anymore”While that is a completely reasonable story, it does make it a little boring. But because this fic is fairly short it works out alright. My only true criticism is going to be on the pacing. I am not sure at all when Harry and Remus were introduced to each other, or how far after that Sirius came into their lives. I also think Harry and Sirius’ connection, while amazing, was a bit unrealistic at the beginning. For a child with this much past to IMMEDIATELY latch onto someone like this is kinda wild, but it works for the story so no big deal honestly. I think characterizations were good, not great. However, this is a situation we haven’t seen marauders in and I’m not super familiar with how marauders are usually characterized outside of reading the books and watching movies, so I’d reevaluate characterization stuff once im more engrossed in the fandom.

This is something I just thought about while adding tags, having moody in this fic was nice. He's a character I'd like to see more out of what I've read so far in marauders

Idk if its just me but i really hate irie kyousuke. He was introduced in the chapter revolving around satokos abuse, and was painted as a good guy despite being a creep. Tbh if you remove irie from higurashi nothing would change and would actually make it better

Yeah, leave it to Ryukishi to write a scene about Irie wanting to propose to Satoko and make her into his maid then in the same breath have a serious one where he talks about how he wishes he could adopt her to give her a life better than the one she currently has. It's really uncomfortable and I cannot stress how much I hate it as well... ...However! ...and please be patient with me here... Best faith read - something I think is worth noting is the fact that the only thing standing firmly between Irie and adopting Satoko is the fact that he isn't married and only married people are allowed to adopt children according to the law so it's possible to read this as him joking about this because it's the only legal recourse available to him.

That said, Irie jokes about wanting to marry Satoko and making her his personal maid, which is really insensitive to say the least because it's exactly why her life takes a turn for the worst whenever Teppei comes back considering he treats her as an object to serve his wants and needs above her own; meanwhile Irie is joking about such stuff presumably with good intentions and to lighten the mood. It's still stressed multiple times that if you put the nonsensical things he's always saying aside, his desire to help Satoko isn't out of malicious intent and he genuinely cares for her so I don't think that aspect is intended as serious. It comes off more as just him committing to a bit/trying to do a funny (though having Keiichi and other characters be like "Irie is a good person if you look past the pedophilia act" is still a major bruh moment), but I think all of this could be analogous to how Irie's lobotomies in the past were out of good intent and genuine desire to empathize with mentally ill people who end up committing crimes and save their lives after what happened to his father but were obviously very terrible ideas?

Anyway even though I can totally see this being an intended parallel I still think it's one where criticism of the execution is valid especially when this aspect of his characterization could've been conveyed more delicately without having to make such jokes at the expense an abuse victim. It's really unfortunate because when you remove this aspect you'll notice that he isn't a bad character at all especially in the connecting fragments bit of Matsuri. I actually really like how those flesh him out, but even then with all the love I have for Higurashi I can't really look past this and enjoy his character. I do appreciate how it's been toned down across adaptations especially in recent stuff like Gou/Sotsu and Gou/Meguri though. It kinda reminds me of some of Battler's behavior in ep1 of Umineko and how that can be "justified" in retrospect but I don't wanna go into spoilers about that in an ask about Higurashi.

Just read the duchess of malfi for the first time! Thoughts:

1. LET. ANTONIO. AND. THE. DUCHESS. BE. HAPPY.

2. After reading how other characters described Antonio and the Duchess I was afraid they'd be idealized to the point of unrelatability. But then you get to see how they themselves act and they seem so real??? Their interactions were so cute??? The duchess proposes to Antonio and the audience isn't expected to shame her for it??? It's an actual healthy ship between characters of different social strata??? I did NOT see this coming. It's so progressive for its time (at least compared to other plays I've read from this time period). Good for Webster.

3. Ferdinand goes from the absolute worst in acts I through III to a top 3 character after going insane. I love how absolutely unhinged he is while there's still just enough tragic meaning behind his words that you can tell his madness is caused by his guilt

4. The villains' motives could've been more clear. Like they just don't want her to remarry because it's slutty? Because then her money would be going to a husband instead of them? Because they want to pick the man she marries? Because incest? Idk that was kind of weird

5. Screw Cardinal. All my homies hate Cardinal.

9. Coriola making up excuses for why she shouldn't get killed was a well-needed moment of comic relief but also pretty sad because she didn't deserve that

10. Delio better adopt Antonio's son and raise him 😤. I feel like it was implied but I really need it to be explicitly clear

11. The tragic speeches and characterization were way better than I expected going in. I was legit tearing up at parts, which usually doesn't happen when I read plays, except like... hamlet (and one scene in all's well that ends well but we don't talk about that)

12. A likeable, strong, independent, but virtuous female character in Jacobean drama who isn't demonized for any of these traits? It's more likely than you think.

13. Kind of sad that Shakespeare plays are the only mainstream drama from this time period. Some plays from this period just freaking slap. (I recently read The Malcontent... SO good, guys. A very different type of play from this, though.)

14. Anyway yeah I really, really liked this. Very enjoyable even if there were some details that probably flew over my head as I went. At least an 8.5/10 (which is pretty dang good by my standards.)

-Hate? No. Questionable and/or nitpicky, yeah. The fandoms I write for are amazing for the most part so I never had actual hate for my fics but odds are I'll jinx myself and may get one anyway LMAO.

- I do write smut but I haven't really written an actual smut fic in a while. Like I'm trying to do that in BSD. I'm more into reading it than writing it for reasons. I like explicit smut, like down and dirty but sweet and nice at the end.

- Once. Someone commented on a Tanizaki/Kunikida oneshot that I did and asked if they can translate it into Russian and I was like 'O-Oh, sure' and they sent me the link of that fic to what was their version of fanfic. That has never happened before and I still can't believe it.

-writing action scenes

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

-I mean, just make sure it's as accurate as possible. Sometimes it is hard to do that if one isn't used to more than one Language. I mean it's not to say that they couldn't but add translations at the very least. I'm not good with that sort of thing, my apologies. ;w;

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

- It's a tie between D.Gray man and Black Butler

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

- Not a fic but a series called Welcome to Kunikida's Candy shop!

It's a what-if series, something that I'm apparently good at for some reason and I hope to get to certain points that really make this series shine~
