Fashion in Uroboros

A brief overview of the different styles of fashion within the IF's setting! It was going to be much longer than it is now, since I initially explained the reasoning I chose these... but I'll resist!

Note that the fashion is not aiming to be authentic. In fact, I've highlighted some of the different ways I've attempted to make these extremely different styles take influence from one another, and even modified them to make more sense thematically for the story.

The fashion is merely inspired, not necessarily accurate to the fashion they're inspired from. Realism isn't the goal, but I still want them to be somewhat convincing, and also cool-looking! I'll also add more thoughts towards the end on this note.

Southwestern Galaio - Takes inspiration from Rococo fashion, in part because its climate is similar to western Europe (oceanic climate). Extravagant and blindingly opulent, though I envision it as incorporating more naturalistic elements, such as birds and flowers into their design. However, their design also tend to be asymmetrical and large-scaled.

Western Galaio - Takes inspiration from Song Dynasty China, as it also has a humid subtropical climate. A time of prosperity as well, but I chose it over the Tang Dynasty because the designs are more simplistic. I wanted this region to be more muted, but still elegant in fashion compared to other regions. Not as flashy, and much less concerned about extravagant wealth. Though it's in Song style, I enlisted the help of an article to help me incorporate some western elements to it, such as lace and fans.

Central Galaio (Part 1) - Humid continental climate. Closer to the southwest, their fashion reflects much of Rococo style as well, but with some modifications (no train for dresses, etc.). This is in reference to Catherine the Great's time, in which Russia had oriented itself towards European fashion (specifically, the Rococo style), but Catherine the Great dictated the fashion to be more Russian and instill national pride.

Central Galaio (Part 2) - Farther from the southwest and more towards the north, their fashion is much closer to Western Galaio. They still have elements of the southwest, but they have a strong emphasis on functionality and practicality, which the southwest appears to be fundamentally against.

Central Galaio (Part 3) - There's a distinct region that is a cold desert. Here is inspired by Mongolian deel. It's thicker and has several layers to withstand the cold, compared to Western Galaio's clothing, which in contrast have lighter fabrics.

Eastern Galaio - Also a wealthy coastal region of Galaio. Mediterranean climate. They take inspiration from the extravagance of the southwest, but fashion is looser, free, and light. The colors are also more natural, like white, brown, blue, etc. rather than the entire spectrum of colors that the southwest and west enjoy.

Deities - Inspired by Edo period Japan, another period of flourishing economic growth. The fashion of the deities likely came from the fashion of a past time, rather than a reflection of current human fashion. Western and Central Galaio's clothing look similar to the kosode gods wear, perhaps because these regions are more rooted in tradition compared to Southwestern and Eastern Galaio. The major modification I made for the fashion of deities, however, is making it more unisex and more relaxed.

Additional Notes

I had tormented myself a lot over authenticity, but I realized the fashion can remain merely inspired, not directly referenced. I'm not actually trying to make a Walmart version of France or any of these cultures. However, I do hope that the admiration I have for these cultures shine through!

A lot of these come from periods of prosperity, the "golden ages". Galaio is beautiful and prosperous, but it obscures a deep ugliness within.

These may be subject to change, and won't be super prominent in the story itself. They merely gave me a general idea or silhouette of the kind of clothes people may wear. I think the most reference I'll give them within the IF is a general aesthetic of the clothes rather than specific details. Hence why they're merely inspired.

Happy WBW! Does your world have any fancy crests or such for families?

Of course it differs from land to land, but at least in Kishetal families don't really have crests at least in the way that we would associate them, like in medieval europe. Rather people/families have special seals. These are used to leave a marking on either parchment or wet clay and act as a signature of sorts.

Sometimes the physical seal/stamp can be considered a form of identification in and of itself. Here are some examples of Kishite Seals:

Royal Seals: The Seal of Hutbari of the Line of Asherdul, King of Labisa

This particular seal is meant to be used on clay rather than on paper or other soft mediums. It is a stamp seal, rather than a cylinder seal. It includes two primary elements, the first is the center which is the marking used by all Labisian Kings in the line of Ashurdul (Kurush, Hutbari, Akard, etc.). The outer ring shows Hutbari's name and position within the genealogy of the line of Ashur.

Noble Seals: The Seal of Zatar, Spearmaster of Labisa, of the Line of Akard (Adopted)

This stamp is meant to be used primarily on paper, hide, or parchment rather than clay. This is a stamp seal. As with the previous example it includes two primary areas, a central area representing the new family/clan of which its owner, Zatar, is the first member. The outer rim contains the person's first name, clan/line, number, and title.

Merchant Seals: The Seal of Wadikir, Bidani

This particular variety of seal is a cylinder seal, and is meant to be rolled over clay surfaces in order to create the above image. Most merchant seals will include a portrait of the owner and images depicting the objects of their trade. The complexity of these seals can vary greatly depending on the wealth of the merchant. The cheapest may be little more than a depiction of the items that the merchant is selling, while the most complex may include design elements and even writing. Merchant seals act not only as a way to identify products and goods and as a signature, but as advertisements of sorts. It is not unusual for merchants to hang images of their seals outside of their places of business.

Personality: Outwardly extremely charismatic and engaging, everything about him is designed to draw people in. He is at his most comfortable when he is the center of attention, since he knows he can twist any amount of attention to his benefit. Arrogant and used to getting his way, but not physically overbearing - he just assumes everyone is going to do what he wants, and he’s usually right. He desires control and hates surprises and uncertainty.

Background: Sebastian does not like to talk about his childhood. The most you are likely to get out of him is that he was raised by a poor fisherman in Busan and spent most days helping him with his work before he mysteriously disappeared at sea when Sebastian (called Sebin at the time) was 20. Nobody ever found him, how tragic and mysterious, whatever could have happened to him, etc etc. If you want to know more, you’ll have to earn his trust.

As he tells it, the real story of his life began when he hopped on a ship after his father’s disappearance and ended up in a port city in France. There, he took the name Sebastian and started working nightclubs and cabarets as a singer. Growing up in Korea, he didn’t know exactly how his powers worked, but through trial and error he realized that most of the time people tended to do what he asked them to, and when he sang they became dazed and suggestible. He made a decent living picking pockets and letting patrons believe they had bought him drinks or felt obliged to tip him a little extra after a performance. If he spotted someone with particularly large pockets, he might invite that person to spend a lovely evening together and leave them with their memories a little fuzzy and their purse noticeably lighter in the morning. (You know how J-Lo is gaslighting and girlbossing in Hustlers? Yeah.)

It’s at one of these establishments that he first met Jaekyung Eun. Jae was obviously wealthier than everyone else in the room combined, which made him an easy target for Sebastian. However, for perhaps the first time in his life, his powers of suggestion failed him utterly. Oh, the attraction was there of course, but no matter what he said, he couldn’t entice Jae into leaving the club with him. This was infuriating, but also fascinating, and he made it his personal mission to seduce Jae utterly and figure out what it was exactly that made him so resistant to his compulsions.

So began a long, torrid affair that he was surprised to find himself enjoying. His previous flings had never lasted longer than one night and he usually became bored with people once they had exhausted their usefulness to him, but Jae was never boring. Eventually though, just like everyone else, he did exhaust his usefulness. Sebastian used Jae’s connections in the fashion world to land a modeling gig and cut ties once he had established himself.

He spent the next five-ish years jetting around Europe for a variety of modeling jobs. In between gigs, he attached himself to wealthy people, enjoyed fancy parties and fine dining on their arm, and moved on after he had tucked away enough incriminating information to blackmail them with potential scandal.

He’s made many connections with mortals and anthros alike in his travels, and was intrigued by Marina’s offer. He decided to join Nemean Lion less out of any selfless desire to help the community, and more to make sure he had access to the flow of information about this situation. It always pays to be in the know, and it’s only fair to offer his own information in exchange.

Besides, it’ll be fun dropping in on Jae unannounced.

Jae’s very sexy and very toxic ex. If you want gory details, he’s more than happy to tell you all about it.

Another monster he met in France or Korea who helped him understand what he was and how to use his powers?

[From Norton] We were in a church in Barcelona and Marin said, “Dad, this is about three of your favorite things: churches, art, and history.” Yep. I’ve tried not to overdo those three things too much on this trip, but it’s hard not to in the places we’ve been. A few highlights of sacred places we’ve visited:

1. Familia Sagrada in Barcelona: no words for how creative and beautiful and sacred this church is. It’s not like all the other cathedrals in Europe. It really is a sight to behold. Or more accurately, to experience. Every single detail tells a story about Jesus.

2. Montserrat: the mountain Benedictine monastery. I am drawn to the Benedictine tradition, so it was good to visit this famous monastery. This is also the place where, in 1522, a young Spanish soldier spent three days confessing his sins and giving his life to doing the work of Jesus. His conversion was so radical that he laid down his sword at the altar and left it there. His name was Ignatius of Loyola and after his time at Montserrat he began to form what became known as the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits).

3. Nimes Maison Carree (Roman Temple): this is the best preserved Roman temple from the ancient world. It was built in 2-5 AD (when Jesus was a little boy). It was built to honor Caesar Augustus. It included an outer court and massive altar where sacrifices were offered to the Roman gods and Caesar was declared Lord. This is what historians call the Imperial Cult. A few blocks away stands the Nimes arena which is the best preserved Roman arena and the site of gladiator games and Christian persecution. While these two places are not “sacred” in the normal sense, they are reminders of the Roman world in which early followers of Jesus declared a radically different allegiance.

4. Avignon Palace of the Popes: also not a “sacred place” but very, very important historically. Many years ago I learned about the “Babylonian captivity of the Popes” — a time in the 1300s when French popes broke with tradition and moved the papacy away from Rome to Avignon, France. It had little to do with religion or faith and was all about power and politics. Italian cardinals then elected their own popes and there were all kinds of Middle Ages controversies about the rival popes. Today, we visited the massive Palace of the Popes in Avignon. It was so impressive. Less like a palace and more like a fortress. The walls were 10 feet thick. At one level, this time of papal history is embarrassing because of its politics, corruption, etc. One another level, the artistic and architectural achievements are still breathtaking.

One final comment, for now (there are more churches we’re visiting). The church was the center of artistic creativity during this time. I wish it were still that way today. And followers of Jesus created art and architecture that would last for centuries. It sometimes took decades or centuries to complete. Sagrada Familia is still being constructed. Gaudi (its designer) gave 40 years of his life to this project and even then knew it would not be complete before he died. What a long-term investment. So different from our time and culture where we rarely invest in anything beyond a few minutes, days, or weeks.

Showa Era Movie Theater

The original Sotetsu Movil movie theater was established in 1956 right across from Yokohama Station and relocated to its current location in 1988. When I first saw a move at this theater decades ago, they primarily focused on Hollywood blockbusters in addition to a smaller selection of Japanese movies and animated films.

Nowadays, the theater has game centers, restaurants, bars, etc., in addition to 5 theaters. Sotetsu Movil now caters more to movie buffs by featuring mostly Japanese films, Hollywood and Japanese classics dating as far back as the 1930s, and foreign language films from Europe and East Asia.

For me, this old movie theater and its retro design brings back many fond memories of the late Showa Era when Japan’s economy was growing and prosperous.

The K-pop group BLITZERS (JINHWA, GO_U, JUHAN, SYA, CHRIS, LUTAN, and WOOJU) is coming back to the stage with a new single.

WUZO Entertainment, the management company of BLITZERS, announced the group’s comeback with the teaser image of the second single, Macarena, on their official social media on April 10th.

The released teaser image has a retro design of a poster with a slogan from the old days, with people excitedly dancing on the blue globe with Seoul in the center.

Colorful and delightful drawings of people all dancing different moves, animals, white clouds, trees, etc., and the large slogan saying “Expanding From Seoul to the World with Macarena” all stir curiosity about the new single from the group.

Plus, the title of the new single, Macarena, and the release date and time of April 24th, 2023, 6PM, is written on the image, both arousing the expectations of K-pop fans from around the globe that were waiting for BLITZERS to come back.

Because the name of the new single is the same as the sensational song Macarena which hit the 90s being on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 14 weeks with its catchy dance moves, the attention for the BLITZERS’ version of Macarena is sky-rocketing.

The group’s anticipated comeback is now happening 9 months after the release of the third mini album WIN-DOW, which was released in July of last year.

BLITZERS beat their own initial sales record (sales within the first week of an album’s release) with way over 50,000 albums sold and reached a successful record of being on the top 10 list of the real-time and daily record of the Hanteo Chart, all showing great presence of a global hot rookie.

With all the love from the fans, BLITZERS were able to tour Europe last October for the first time after their debut, touring 8 countries and 12 cities, starting with Milan of Italy, Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany, boosting their global presence.

What's up!! My name is Stephanie (She/Her/Hers) and I am SO excited to work with Girlie Action!

What do you hope to gain from this experience? My past work has dealt mostly with “traditional” forms of PR— so lots of press releases, email pitches and background research. Admittedly, my skill set is a bit lacking when it comes to social media management. Although I have experience planning and formatting material for Instagram, I want to strengthen my skills as a creator and curator across all the major content platforms (Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Spotify, etc;). SO many publicity efforts nowadays take place on social media—especially those concerned with music and art. Online content is a huge part of brand/artist marketing strategy, and I want to learn first-hand how to engage audiences through the use of digital tools.

What is the best concert you’ve been to? I saw St. Vincent in October of ‘21 during her “Daddy’s Home'' album tour/era. I still think about that night, it felt a bit like a dream. I decided to drive to College Street Music Hall in Connecticut on a whim after missing the Radio City date (mind you—I’m from Long Island). I strolled onto the line a good hour early, planted myself at the stage center and did not move an inch. I was arms-length away from Annie the entire night. I drove home at 2 a.m. and was wired enough to go to work just a few hours later.

…That show put me on a different planet. Only Annie’s guitar could cut through all the smoke. The live sound of “Daddy’s Home” was sultry, slinky and sleazy—oozing 1970s cool. “Concert” isn’t enough of a description for what I witnessed. This was performance art.

What else do you love besides music? I am a foodie through and through—partially thanks to my father who had owned an Italian restaurant for almost 30 years. I am all ABOUT trying new places to eat. Different flavors = different atmospheres. Stepping into a restaurant feels like entering another world at times. Of course, I venture out within reason. No room for a $100 brunch on a college budget.

I will say I also love to travel and discover new places. I’ve visited 8 different countries in Europe and am more than ready to explore the rest of the world. Eastern Asia is fascinating to me—Japan in particular. Japan… just seems sick. The nightlife. The nature. The history. The food (obviously). Bucket-list material for sure.

What’s your dream job? Tough to say what position exactly, but I know it's in music/art publicity and likely involves social media. As I’ve gotten my feet wet in PR, I’ve gained a particular interest in how artists build their brands and manage their images through digital channels. I love getting people excited about art through visuals and words, and I feel doing so is my strength. Any opportunity where I use my writing and design skills to connect people to music and entertainment would be ideal. It is amazing how social media makes amazing art much more accessible—and I’d like to work within a realm that makes that possible.

Czech L-39NG coach receives certification for worldwide export

The latest aircraft developed by the Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody (Aero) can now be operated around the world. The newly obtained unrestricted type certification for the Aero L-39NG training jet, which took more than 5 years, is the main requirement for the registration of aircraft by customers.

The first production L-39NG is expected to fly by the end of 2022. Negotiations with more potential customers began at the recent Farnborough Airshow.

The Aero L-39NG is a modern, efficient and effective jet trainer for large-scale training of modern air force pilots. The aircraft is the successor to the L-39C, which has already been used to train thousands of professional pilots around the world.

“The newly obtained unrestricted type certification for the L-39NG confirms that this state-of-the-art aircraft surpasses its predecessor. All of us at Aero are confident that the L-39NG will be very successful in the future. This is positive news not only for Aero, but for the entire Czech aerospace industry, which is strongly involved in the development and production of the L-39NG," said Viktor Sotona, president and CEO of Aero Vodochody.

The Czech jet trainer L-39NG uses the latest production technologies and modern equipment. The aircraft's avionics is suitable for training fourth- and fifth-generation jet pilots. The aircraft comes with a wide range of modern simulation technologies, including complete integration into a highly advanced tactical simulation center, increasing the overall effectiveness of training.

"The serial production of the L-39NG is working at full throttle. With the contracts we have already signed and the continuous high interest in our training aircraft, our production capacity will be fully utilized at least until 2025. From now on, Aero is in advanced negotiations to deliver the L-39NG to several customers in Europe, Africa and Asia. In addition, new dialogues with potential customers and partners began at the recently completed Farnborough Air Show in the UK," said Filip Kulstrunk, vice president of sales and marketing at Aero Vodochody, adding: "Compared to competitors from Italy, South Korea or the USA, the L-39NG is a very affordable and, above all, reliable long- The L-39NG should be continuously updated according to customer requirements, especially at the level of communication systems and avionics. Today, this is fundamental for successful long-term cooperation with the national air forces."

Pilots appreciate the excellent view of the cockpit and the high level of protection in case of emergency landing or accident. This is due to the traditional robustness of the aircraft's design, which is based on the L-39.

“The main advantages of the L-39NG are a completely new aircraft design, aligned with modern technologies (for example, use of composite parts, improved cabin vision, center point refueling, etc.) and the highly reliable FJ44-4M engine. As a result, our aircraft achieves the best operating costs, range and endurance in class," adds Jaromír Lang, chief designer of the L-39NG.

The certification of the Aero L-39NG is the result of more than five years of development and testing in several stages. Does the type certificate validate that the aircraft was developed in accordance with all applicable aviation regulations and standards ?? and, therefore, it is safe for standard flight operations. Any newly manufactured aircraft of this type can be automatically issued with a valid Certificate of Airworthiness, receive a registration mark and be listed in the Air Registry.

The certification for the L-39NG was issued by the Military Aviation Authority (MAA-CZE) and is therefore fully compatible with all requirements and systems of the European Union and NATO. The certification has no time restriction and is valid for the entire production life of the L-39NG.
