If you were going to make a character that was the soul of planet earth in a human body you might think to make her motherly. Wise. Forgiving. Mother Earth cares for us, she provides, right? But Tamsyn Muir wrote Nona the Ninth and said YES planet earth is loving but also she is SO SO ANGRY and HURTING. And actually she cannot care for others right now she needs to be cared FOR.
Also she wants to eat pencils and she thinks flowers are sexy.
It’s interesting to see how G-Witch flips the traditional Gundam dynamic of space vs. earth, with people from earth being the economically exploited underclass while space is (seen as) the domain of the ultra-wealthy. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is in response to increasing discussions of space colonization specifically among the wealthy, particularly men like Musk.
The Doctor: So you intend to hold the universe to ransom.
The Master: Doctor... why don't you come in with me. we're both Timelords. We're both renegades. We could be masters of the galaxy. Think of it Doctor. Absolute power -- power for good, ah, you could reign benevolently. You could end war, suffering, disease. We could save the universe.
The Doctor: No. Absolute power is evil!
The Master: Consider carefully doctor. I'm offering you a half-share in the universe. You must see reason, Doctor.
The Doctor: No. I will not join you in your absurd dreams of a galactic conquest!
The Master: Why? why? Look at this: Look at all those planetary system, Doctor. we could rule them all!
The Doctor: What for? what's the point?
The Master: The point is that one must rule or serve, that's a basic law of life. why do you hesitate Doctor? surely it's not loyalty to the Timelords, who exiled you on one insignificant planet.
The Doctor: You'll never understand, will you? I want to see the universe, not rule it!
Blown away by what a bad boring boss fight singularity is lmao
Severely unimpressive, not hard so much as annoying occasionally, mostly pretty easy gameplay-wise in fact, and like. You're absolutely crushing his ass before the cutscene starts and goes "whoops Bayonetta is dying now I guess"
Like him being able to break out of witch time isn't that impressive but it's treated like oh my god Bayonetta is completely wowed and unable to respond now like she can't dodge bullets fighting Jeanne, whom witch time doesn't work on.
Like compared to Jeanne Balder Jubileus Loptr and even Luka it's...a lame boss fight! He's serving nothing! And this is the boss to end all bosses that Bayonetta can't beat. 3 Bayonettas can't beat. A guy who throws swords at you and dumps sludge everywhere.
“From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.
The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner.
How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known, so far, to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate.
Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.
To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
~ Carl Sagan, ‘Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space’
