I don't normally post political art. But with bad actors trying to distort history and diminish the immense significance of this day; I wanted to contribute something to remind us to never forget EDSA People Power 🇵🇭 ✊

IN PHOTOS: Yesterday, progressive youth groups from different schools in Iloilo along with other organizations and representatives from different sectors gathered in front of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Uprising. The program was then followed by a march in the streets of Iloilo City.
After almost four decades since the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was ousted, another Marcos is back in the highest seat of power in the country, directly following the tyrannical regime of Rodrigo Duterte.
The Marcos Jr. administration is using its power to continue the fascist legacy of both his direct predecessor Duterte and his father Marcos Sr., hence the declining socio-economic condition of Filipinos due to multiple issues such as the increasing inflation rate and oil price hikes.
Instead of uplifting the plight of the masses, the administration has only managed to worsen the situation by introducing policies that only benefit the ruling class. In addition, people’s campaigns like the call for a national minimum wage and the suspension of value added and excise taxes are disregarded, while legislators focus on the railroading of the Maharlika Wealth Fund, the implementation of Mandatory ROTC, and the prioritization of a constitutional reform, among others.
Not only are the rights of the various sectors of society endangered, but the nation’s history of struggle against the Marcos dictatorship is also being erased. Marcos Jr., with his cronies, is desperate in attempting to change the nation’s history and in covering up the crimes that his family committed against the Filipino people under his father’s tyrannical rule.
Anakbayan Panay stands with the people’s resistance against misinformation and historical distortion and against all other forms of oppression and state-sponsored terrorism. With the return of another Marcos in Malacañang comes the continuation of our struggle for genuine agrarian reform, indigenous peoples’ rights, student welfare and free education for all, climate justice, and Sahod Itaas, Presyo Ibaba.
We call on the Filipino youth to look back to the lessons we have acquired in the long course of our struggle and to keep the fight against tyranny and carry forward the people’s calls towards true national liberation and national democracy.
Makibaka, huwag matakot! Tuloy ang laban!

The culmination of the bloodless revolt on February 25, 1986, kicked dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos out of Malacañang after an iron-fist rule that lasted more than a decade. His family soon went on exile in Hawaii, an experience that his son Marcos Jr. described as among the darkest days of their lives.
A decades-long project to rehabilitate their family’s image ultimately led to the Marcoses returning to power, capped by Marcos Jr.’s ascent to the presidency in 2022.
For 2024, the Palace downplayed its removal of the EDSA Revolution anniversary from the list of holidays, saying there would be “minimal socio-economic impact in declaring this day as a special non-working holiday since it coincides with the rest day for most workers and laborers.”
This year, democracy advocates are also using the EDSA revolution anniversary commemoration to amplify their opposition to charter change.
The present Constitution was completed months after the 1986 uprising, and ratified through a nationwide plebiscite in February 1987.
It replaced the 1973 Constitution, which helped Marcos justify his prolonged stay in office.

This photo book is comprised of statements by participants and observers of the nonviolent 'people power' revolution. Events are shown and described chronologically, beginning with Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino's return to Manila in August 1983, his assassination and funeral (the latter turning into the first major anti-Marcos demonstration), and ending with a photo of Corazon Aquino addressing an ecstatic throng. The 247 pictures collected here, many taken by amateurs, are alternately scary, touching, and inspiring. Included are shots of citizens guarding ballot boxes against government goons, crowds shielding reformist soldiers against loyalist task forces, and people attempting to disarm the Marcos troops with flowers.

EDSA People Power anniversary
translation:
In commemorating the 1986 People Power Revolution, let's look back at the spirit that inspired the world back then. Regardless of (political) color and surname, the world followed the courage of a united people. The Philippines became a beacon for others to begin their historic liberation.

I wish I could post some art for today, but this is all I have.
My parents were at the EDSA People Power Revolution, the first one that happened in 1986. They were in their mid-twenties at the time. Over the years, they’ve told me stories of how they slept in the streets and woke up early in the morning to go to the rally. They even have a picture of them in the crowds, close to the tanks that stood still in the streets.
I think about today, and how the Marcoses have managed to take back the presidency in less than 40 years. It disgusts me beyond all belief, not only because of the recent drastic shifting of schedules (who the hell honestly asked for Feb 24 to be a holiday), but because February 25 is incredibly historically significant. No one has any right to change that date for any reason, because doing so takes away the importance of what happened.
No one has any right to make the Filipino people forget what this country has gone through.
Remember Martial Law. Remember the atrocities of the Marcos family. Remember the people who went missing, who died, who were tortured.
Remember today – the day the Marcoses were forced to leave the country after their long reign of dictatorship abused and took the lives of thousands. Remember the people who rose up against them. These people have stories to tell – stories worth listening to, sharing, and learning from. Never let anyone make you forget.

It's physically painful to hear family members you care about praise the Marcoses lmao. I can't help but scoff because I can't do more than that.

I'm already pretty upset at the marcos apologist, I don't know what I'll do if I were ever to live with them (probably commit arson but we'll see). Most of my family relatives are apologists too and it's pretty infuriating. Hindi ko rin alam kung pano sila nagkaganyan :')
History is the truth. It's not an opinion.
I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree strongly with these people. I can't respect it either because it's morally wrong to support a dictator and his son who was involved in robbing their country mind you.
I can only imagine what the youth and the Filipinos who hoped for a better future went through. Betrayed by their own families. I was lucky enough to be taught by my parents (and my 4th grade teacher) who experienced Edsa Revolution themselves.
Hang it there. Know that you are not alone in this battle <3

I dont care what the older generation thinks of us, I am so proud of being part of the youth who chose to fight for whats right. What most adults don't realize is that it is OUR future at stake. WE will be the ones to face the conseuqeunces of THEIR actions. Most parents in every household are celebrating the fact that they "proved their kids wrong" after seeing the election results but we will not be demotivated by their scrutiny. We will stand. We will fight. We will speak out against this discriminatory behavior and PROVE to them that we aren't "just children"
As a scholar, I am so happy seeing all of these students stand up for whats right ♡
CONTINUE FIGHTING FOR OUR COUNTRY AND FOR OUR FUTURE!!!!!! IPAGLABAN NATIN TO!!!!!!

So I might not be active for good few days since my country is going to a shitstorm as we speak since they want to elect a dictator's son instead of a woman that has all the credentials to back it up.
we're in the all-time low right now and we're gonna fight the good fight for the country.
I don't pray or ask prayers, but this time. For the sake of my family, for the sake of my husband, my daughter, my parents and sibling, for the sake of every single individual that strives for a better future, please place us in your prayer as we might live the nightmare of 36 years ago all over again.
