Chapter 20 is Live!!
You can find it:

Or Below the Cut if you prefer Tumblr :)
“Christ Jesus,” Tomura said through gritted teeth. His fingers were bone white where he gripped the rail.
“He can’t help you now, captain. Instead of invoking his name, why don’t you pray that I get these stitches straight instead?” Magne said as she corked the liquor bottle that she had just poured over Tomura’s shoulder.
Dabi huffed out a breath. He was stood next to Tomura, one arm wrapped around the other’s back to help him stand still. “Dramatic much? It doesn’t really suit you, Mag. That’s more Compress’ thing.”
All he received in return was an eye roll from Magne and a sharp hiss from Tomura as the needle broke through his skin.
Himiko watched this all from her seat on the upper deck. Her legs were stuck through the bars that held up the railing, and her hands were holding a flannel blanket tight around her shoulders. The three others were below her on the main deck, along with Ochako and her friends but they were all on the other side of the ship. She watched closely as Magne slid the thin needle—made from bone and insanely sharp—through Tomura’s flesh again and again, drawing his bullet wound closed with black thread and precise tugs. As a pirate, knife enthusiast, and former vagabond, Himiko was intimately familiar with stitches. She knew the feeling of thread through flesh better than she knew a mother’s comfort. There had been a time where the thought of her mother dragged her into a depression that was nigh inescapable for days and days on end, but that was a long time ago and things have changed. Himiko had a family now–a true family, one that loved her for who she was–and she no longer mourned her mother. No, the grief she now felt had nothing to do with the woman who had tried to suppress her daughter’s very nature. The grief that now twisted and roiled inside her chest came from another daughter estranged from her mother because of an age-old hatred and the fear of the unknown.
A cold touch on her shoulder shook Himiko out of the past.
“A question for you, old friend, if you’ll hear it,” Himiko said to Jin, who had gone through the effort to expend energy and become more corporeal. Looking through him now was not unlike peering through an old warped glass. The ship beyond him was foggy, distorted, and tinted different colors–faint gray through his jacket, parchment colored through his yellow hair, and soft red through the scarf tied around his brow. Himiko could see more clearly the large gash, the permanent marker of his death, that scored his forehead vertically in two peeking from the bottom of his scarf as it cut down to slice the very top of his nose.
“Always, Himiko,” He crouched down to sit beside her on the wooden floor. “What’s troubling you?”
Himiko knew without looking when a second contradicting statement didn’t come that Jin had to be doing something to control his curse, and indeed when she turned to look him in the eye she could see that his mouth was screwed into a tense line–white around the edges from the amount of force. She knew that this was hard for him. Even though it was possible for him to control his curse when he was more corporeal, it still took a vast amount of effort.
“Is it noble and good to turn someone away, to let them go if you believe that you are poisoning them with your presence?”
Confusion clouded Jin’s face. “How do you mean?”
“How can I, in good conscience, allow Ochako to stay here when she should be at home with her parents leading a normal life? It is my fault, is it not, that she is here instead of home. I am poison, as I said before. I have ruined her chance at a good, normal life.” Himiko turned her head away and looked at Ochako again. The other girl was now talking to Magne and Dabi, and Himiko could hear her ask, Is there anything I can do to help?
There was a long pause before Jin deigned to respond. He heaved a great sigh and said, “I think this is a question better saved for Ochako, but I will tell you this while I still have relative control over myself,” He reached over and laid a hand on her knee. “Contrary to your belief, you are not poison. Put that thought from your mind completely and immediately.” He paused again and urged her to look at him. She did so with wet eyes. “You are my friend. We are one and the same, Himiko. If you are poison, then I, too, must be poison. Whatever we are, whatever we do, we exist together.” He stood, and pressed a kiss to the crown of her head. He then faded, and became merely a rush of wind.
Though she knew that she should move, that she should be helping her crew to recover and set course for wherever they planned to sail, Jin's words and her own despair froze her and rendered her immobile. She watched her shipmates–including Ochako’s group–come and go over the next several hours. Himiko only clutched the flannel blanket closer around herself and laid down on her side, drawing her knees to her chest. She could see the questioning, concerned looks that were sent in her direction. She knew they were all worried, though she thought that the worry was misplaced. Tomura was the one that had been shot, not her. She was fine, she was just planning her next move, was all.
The moon was well into the sky by the time Himiko found the strength to move. Tomura and Eri had retired to the cabin below deck, as well as Dabi who hadn’t left Tomura’s side willingly since they had set foot back on the ship. Magne, Spinner, and Compress were slowly but surely finishing up with the rigging and setting the sails. She could faintly hear Compress leading the appropriate shanties to get the job done. Jin, meanwhile, was nowhere to be seen.
Himiko could just barely spot the new trio out of the corner of her eye. Over the course of the last several hours they had stood near the port-side rail, then migrated to the starboard rail, and were now standing directly underneath the upper-deck stage where she was lying. If she wanted to, Himiko could reach down and weave the strands of Ochako’s russet hair between her fingers. She refrained, keeping her fingers to herself. She tried listening to whatever the three of them were talking about, but she couldn’t shake the fog in her mind. It muffled her ears and made her eyes wide and unseeing. Everything was far away in a sensation that Himiko hadn’t felt in a long, long time.
“‘Scuse me, dears,” Magne said, brushing past the trio. Himiko blinked, coming back to herself a little as Magne pried open the door–swollen with moisture– to the cabins below deck. She looked Himiko in the eyes right before she disappeared through the door. Another concerned look.
With Magne’s interruption, Ochako, Izuku and Tsuyu’s conversation died out. The sound of the waves crashing and rolling against the hull became hypnotizing, and Himiko’s mind began to turn numb once more until the door opened and Magne stepped back on deck.
“All right,” she said, walking amidship. “I’ve just talked with the captain, and he’s given us the go ahead to set sail. Everyone to the capstan, we’re raising anchor.”
Himiko forced herself to sit up and then shook her head hard. She could continue her sulking–or whatever this was–later. She had skipped out on her responsibilities enough, especially since this was a task that required as many hands as possible. With three crew members injured, busy, or missing, she was needed. A thought bothered her, though.
Sail? Himiko thought. Where are we sailing to? It wasn’t as if Ochako’s parents would find them all the way out here. Well, we have been anchored here for quite some time. Maybe it was for the better that they were leaving. Himiko only wished that she could have had a reason to send Ochako away. She didn’t need to be anywhere near Himiko anymore, not when Himiko had already disrupted and ruined everything that Ochako had ever had. A painful realization, but a correct one, Himiko knew.
The capstan–located behind the main mast–was made entirely of iron. Himiko remembered in the early days of her joining the crew when the capstan was so black and shiny that it would nearly blind her when the sun was at its highest in the sky. Nowadays, it was dull looking and squealed quite a bit when used. She, along with the rest of the crew, lifted their wooden handles and inserted them into their respective slots in the head of the capstan.
Himiko didn’t miss the confused glance that Ochako–located diagonally from Himiko across the circular head of the capstan–gave her when at first nobody moved. Everyone was holding onto their spoke, leaning over and ready to push, and yet they were still. It wasn’t until Compress called out a line of a capstan shanty that they all began to push, marching dutifully to beat.
“Oh Santiana gained the day–”
The wooden capstan handle bit into her hand as she heaved along with everyone else. They were weathered and splintering, the varnish that was originally on then chipped almost completely away.
The crew, minus Ochako, Izuku and Tsuyu, dutifully called back: “–away Santiana–.”
On and on it went for hours. Every so often someone would have to break away to untie and retie the messenger cable to the anchor cable. By the third verse, the new trio had gotten the hang of the call and response that made up the shanty. Breaks were required, even with the advanced strength of some of the crew. The fog in Himiko’s brain lingered, not helped by the repetitiveness of the task at hand. The fog grew worse, accompanied by a shrinking feeling in her chest when she saw–even across the distance between them–that Ochako’s hands had left blood on her capstan handle.
When the scraping, thunking sound of the anchor hitting the hull was heard Himiko nearly fell over in relief.

off topic, but thinking of the time I got called a racial slur in a review by some dude who legit had this shit on their fucking ffn profile (putting it under a readmore due to the content of it)
Tumblr media
like....
Tumblr media
I never brought it up, but the only reason I’m doing it now is that the review no longer seems to exist on this fic, and when I tried looking for the dude in my blocklist, it seems that they’re just GONE.
meaning that FFN fucking nuked the account. Which is great.
Anyways, that was a THING that happened to me while writing Also-Ran, like, GEEZ. Somehow, it’s always the Pokemon fics that draw some weirdos to me.
which is hilarious, considering I’ve written Danganronpa fanfic, and out of all the readers I’ve gotten, only like...one of them was legitimately creepy and harassing me in the awful year of 2016, in which a lot of bad shit happened (which involved me losing a close friend to an irreversible decision made during her spiraling fit of despair).
That’s also not me getting into that one dude that chose to piggyback off my fic in the worst of ways (f/f fetishist who straight up dumped me like garbage as soon as their fic got some consistent readers, but still talked shit about my fic having more popularity despite me not updating often), but like that’s something I can easily distance myself from, seeing as I STILL HAVE THE HIGH GROUND WITH MY FIC.
but yeah, somehow, Pokemon nabbed me the actual WEIRDOS, next to my BNHA SI OC, where I got some person already thirsting after OC x Dabi, despite the fact my SI OC was THREE. heck.
anyways that’s just a day in the life of a writer who’s been doing this for more than a decade. :V

fic writer interview!
i saw @prince-liest do this and thus i will take ur 'tagging anyone who wants to do this' seriously lmaoooo (also hi btw hope ur well!!! 💜💜)
How many works do you have on AO3?
ahaha,,,,,159 lmao
What's your total AO3 word count?
fdsjkkjlsfdklj as of today, 2,089,769
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
only three fsdjkldslfkj the phandom (dan&phil), bnha, and genshin!
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
chosen (x) - zhongchi (genshin)
to love (and be loved in return) (x) - kaeluc (genshin)
little bird (x) - dabihawks (bnha)
feet don't touch the ground (x) - xiaoven (genshin)
i knew you were fire (x) - dabihawks (bnha)
honestly none of that surprises me except that little bird is still up there, although i think i owe that to sif (@the-final-sif) for sharing it around the time it got posted since it was partly inspired by her raptor stress grip post!!
the rest are all chaptered fics, which is mostly what i expected to be in the top 5 lmao
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
yes!!! always!!!! no matter what u comment, i will respond!!! and if i don't, it's probably cause ao3 didn't notify me properly or i didn't see it in my inbox or something
as for why, it's mostly to do with like...i know how hard it can be for some people to comment, even just a bunch of heart emojis or a 'i loved this!' or something short and simple? and it means a lot to me that ppl are going out of their way to say something nice, no matter how small, and it's really really important to me to acknowledge that
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
hmm,,,,,this is a hard one, cause for a very long time, my policy was that my fic would always have a happy ending? and for a long time, that was true!! but the dabihawks interaction (during the raid) broke me, and from an emotional standpoint, i think freeing icarus (x) is probably the one that has the angstiest ending of the two or so that i wrote in that time?
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
u know i really haven't written any crossovers? it's normally not my thing cause my brain typically focuses on a single thing and doesn't really have the capacity to think about more than that, so i end up writing just au-style or fusion-style (shoutout to that one bnha but it was scooby doo fic i wrote - x)
i don't think i'd be opposed to writing a crossover but i'd have to be SUPER inspired by the idea and both fandoms lmao
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
aha yes, i have. the only straight up hate i've received was on a kaeluc fic (surprisingly not because it was kaeluc, but bc i was 'mistreating' kaeya in the fic) - to be entirely fair, the commenter pointed out something that i hadn't realized myself, and it led to a second piece of the story that helped me tie up some loose ends, but...let's just say they weren't very kind about their feelings lmao
other than that, i had someone very upset because i didn't tag which character was bottoming in a fic (valid if that bugs u!) and they read through most of it before getting to the smut (and said that they enjoyed everything up to that point) then said they were 'disgusted' by it. i have opinions on that and a few other comments they made, but i will keep them to myself lmao
and beyond that, just a few ppl on my xiaoven fic saying that they were unhappy about the background kaeluc (which is tagged lmao) - really no hate whatsoever til genshin, honestly, which is...very hmmmm :) lmao
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
yep!!! mostly vanilla or vanilla-adjacent lmao i'm not super into heavy kink, although i know if epi reads this she's gonna call me out for being a monsterfucker bc of my dragon!zhongli smut :) lmaoooo but really i tend to write pretty vanilla smut! i also prefer to avoid any noncon/dubcon or hate sex or anything particularly angsty, just not my jam to write!
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
hmm i don't think so? although i don't heavily monitor ao3 (or wattpad/ffn), so i can't really say that for sure lmao
Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!!! i've had a few fics translated to russian (little bird is one of them!) which is very sweet and i hope that anyone who prefers to read in russian has been enjoying those fics!!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
alksdfjklsdf only once, and it's deadass how me and rose got together. we decided to co-write a podcast au fic for the phandom (x) and ended up flirting via google docs asldkfjkldsfj
What’s your all time favourite ship?
what a horrible question, making me choose between my children like this!!!! sdlfkjdskf tbh i'm not sure i have a real answer bc it changes as i go? and 'favorite' is so vague,,,,,favorite to read? to write about? to think about? asdklfjkjsdfk i really don't know if i have an answer, but i'll maybe say kaeluc for now lmao
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
well first and foremost, with only 2 exceptions, i never post a fic unless it's done. i tend to follow wherever my passion leads my brain, so i'm notorious for jumping around between stories and taking breaks from long fic and returning later on to finish them, and i know that i would not do well under the pressure of posting something unfinished and trying to finish it in a timely manner
that said, many wips sit in my google doc folder, but one is Well Known as the one that has followed me through both the phandom and bnha (rose keeps asking who i'm gonna switch the chars to in genshin, but i think it suits bakudeku too well to do that) - only the lonely survive. it sits at like 36k in my wip folder, and i adore the story dearly and i want very much to finish it, but it never makes it quite to the forefront of my motivation, and so it rarely if ever gets worked on...i hate the idea of 'never' finishing it, but it's unfortunately quite likely that i won't 😭😭😭
What are your writing strengths?
emotion!!! and immersion!!! it's my goal in a fic to make it as immersive as possible and saturated with emotion to help convey that feeling of being in the place of the pov character, and i think i do it pretty well. also just bc i feel a little obligated to say it - another strength is actually sitting down and putting words down. i know that's a struggle for a lot of writers and i often get,,,,lovingly bullied? i guess? lmao for being able to bash out a few k in a day most days
What are your writing weaknesses?
this isn't so much a weakness i guess but i am basically incapable of treating crack fic as crack. if i have a cracky idea, it will, without a doubt, end up turning into a Perfectly Serious fic somehow (notable 'crack treated so seriously that it's no longer crack' fics include: todoroki doing the freeze-the-ocean thing from frozen 2, 'shmigaraki', todo and denki get together bc of vine references, the league sells feet pics, shiggy and natsu own a nightclub/bakery, scooby doo but make it bnha, and dabi getting his ears pierced at claire's)
but in all seriousness, i think my main weakness is that i often get comfortable? and i'm not one to typically push myself forcefully out of my comfort zone when it comes to stories that i come up with on my own, which often means that ideas inspired by discussions with others are what prompt me to branch out and try new things?
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i think, like anything, it has its place? there are certainly stories where it makes sense to do that and even adds depth to a story, although i personally am not exceptionally comfortable enough with other languages (except maybe asl) to do that in fic myself without the assistance of someone very comfortable with that language lmao
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
the phandom! not really my jam to write rpf anymore but it definitely got me started and i'm really grateful for my time writing there, as everyone was super supportive and kind, and it was really a perfect place for a beginner to get comfortable and practice
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
again, forcing me to choose between my children...i really don't know that i can pick one fic bc they all exist in such wildly different spaces? i poured my worldbuilding soul into the king of disaster series (mainly dabihawks - x), exile (dan and phil - x) was my first massively long fic, our hearts are heavy burdens we shouldn't have to bear alone (chayea - x) is probably my favorite character/character dynamic study, i'm exceptionally proud of the smut in chosen (zhongchi - x), the list goes on and on and on lmao like. i could probably list half my fics as favorites in some regard dsflkjdfsjkl
anyway, tyty bellamy for putting this on my dash so i could do it as well!!
tagging: literally anyone who wants to do this, i have so many writer friends slkdjfjklsdf but please please tag me if u do it so i can read urs!!! 💜💜💜

Fish and Pearls Chapter 14 is now live!
You can find it:
Here! on ao3
Here! on ffn
or below the cut if you prefer to read it on tumblr :)
It seemed as though the entirety of Himiko’s group agreed to not mention the fact that they had already been to Ochako’s house. Well technically, Himiko supposed, they broke into her house and inspected every inch of it and then Himiko stole something from the mantlepiece. Yeah, it’s probably better off if they just don’t mention it to Ochako.
They, even Dabi, were all quite content to allow Ochako to guide them through the thicket. Himiko herself was right beside Ochako at the front of the group, along with Eri. The little girl was, by nature, slowing everyone down - though it wasn’t because of a lack of effort. Himiko could see that she was walking just as fast as her tiny legs would carry her, but she just couldn’t match the stride of everyone else. The congregation had gone from a quick paced, focused hustle to a sort of meandering stroll so that Eri wouldn’t snap her legs off trying to keep up.
“Eri?” Ochako said, trying to get the small girl’s attention. She looked up from the forest floor to let Ochako know that she had heard her, but she didn’t quite meet the older girl’s eyes.
Interesting, Himiko thought. She would have to investigate at a later date.
“Yeah?” Eri said. Her voice was high pitched and quiet, like a tiny little bell.
Ochako crouched down in front of Eri in order to look her in the eyes. In this position, Ochako’s head only came to about the height of Himiko’s waist - as opposed to only slightly shorter than Himiko’s head, like it was when they were both standing. She watched as Ochako gently reached forward and brushed a stray silver lock (that had looped itself around Eri’s horn) from Eri’s messy tangle and tucked it behind the small girl’s ear. Himiko felt a pang in her chest at the sight of such a motherly action and looked away, only to see that the rest of the group had stopped to watch as well.
“Why don’t you go and walk with some of my other friends for a minute while I talk with Himiko, hm? I promise I won’t be long, and I’m sure that any one of them will hold your hand.” Ochako said. She had taken to brushing away a few stray leaves that had stuck to the bottom hem - if it could be called a proper hem, seeing as the poor girl was practically dressed in rags - of Eri’s dress.
Eri, though, looked rather uneasy about this proposal. Her little face scrunched up - mouth pouting and forehead furrowing - and her hand tightened around Ochako’s. Even from where she stood, Himiko could see that Eri’s knuckles were white from the force of her grip. It was almost as if Eri was terrified that if she let go of Ochako the older girl would disappear.
Just then, the green-haired lightning wielder - Izuku, as Himiko had learned from the introductions - slowly walked forward with his (very scarred) hands down by his sides. He followed Ochako’s lead and knelt down so that he wasn’t towering over Eri.
“How about this: if you come walk with us,” Izuku gestured over his shoulder at both Himiko’s crew and Ochako’s other friend Asui. “then I’ll show you some cool magic tricks. How does that sound?”
Eri’s face relaxed some, and transformed from scared and anxious to inquisitive and a tad bit skeptical. She still, however, had not let go of Ochako’s hand.
“Can you really do magic?” Eri asked. The hand that wasn’t firmly attached to Ochako’s was playing idly with the collar of her rag-dress.
Izuku grinned wide.
“You betcha!” He said. He spread his crooked fingers wide and small, quick bolts of emerald electricity danced between them. Himiko thought the bolts looked quite pretty. She wished she could bottle them up and use them as cosmetic jewels like she had seen some wealthy women do.
An awestruck whisper of “Wow” left Eri. Himiko saw that Ochako was equally amazed by her friend’s display, though the brunette said nothing.
“You promise you’ll show me more?” Eri said. Her tiny fingers loosened more and more with each passing second.
“Of course! I’m nothing if not a man of my word.”
Himiko heard Dabi scoff at Izuku’s proclamation, though the scoff was quiet enough that Ochako hadn’t heard.
Eri bounced back and forth on the balls of her feet in what seemed like contemplation before tip-toeing over to Izuku.
The entire group seemed to hold their breath as Eri approached them. Himiko saw the small girl tilt her head up to get a better look. Magne and Compress waved at Eri as her eyes passed over them, and everyone’s face had a very open, non-threatening expression plastered over it.
Eri nodded to herself and latched onto Izuku’s hand. Himiko could feel the happiness and relief pour out of everyone. They all wanted Eri to like them - even Dabi, though he probably wouldn’t admit it.
“Alright, Eri. Himiko and I will be just up ahead if you need something, okay?” Ochako said, standing up and briefly brushing off her skirts.
Eri nodded, which was the only indication that she had heard Ochako speak. She tugged on Izuku’s hand to get his attention. He looked down at her - on account of having stood back up again - as she said, “Can you show me more magic now?”
Himiko heard Ochako laugh softly before she turned to look into her own yellow eyes. She softly and subtly jerked her chin forwards.
And so they both resumed their trek towards Ochako’s home. Himiko wasn’t sure if Ochako felt it, too, or if she was just reading too far into the atmosphere, but she felt as though there was a significant tension between the two of them. Any light-hearted enjoyment that had been there before now was gone. What could have happened to warrant a “talk”? Himiko couldn’t help but feel her stomach tightening in apprehension.
The silence between them was thick as they walked, and each footfall sounded thunderous. Himiko could hear everyone else’s footsteps behind her, though they were much farther behind than they had been originally. They were far enough behind that they wouldn’t be able to eavesdrop on her and Ochako’s “talk” - with Magne being the exception, as a selkie’s hearing was more advanced than a normal human’s.
Himiko heard Ochako draw in a terse breath before she began to speak.
“If this is going to work,” Ochako said, keeping her voice quieter than it normally would be. “we both need to work on communication.”
“How so?” was Himiko’s immediate, baffled response. She thought that she had been communicating her intentions fairly obviously, what with the courting gifts and all. She had also thought that Ochako had been obvious with her response to the courting gifts. She had always eaten the foodstuffs that Himiko had given her, and the big courting gift - the necklace - was currently resting against Ochako’s collarbones.
A question had been asked, and a response had been given. What more could there be?
“Well for one, I never explicitly agreed to us courting.” Ochako said. She turned to look at Himiko directly with a look that was a mixture of gentle apprehension and defiance. “You can’t just-”
“Yes you did.”
The defiance in Ochako’s eyes hardened.
“When? Where in the two conversations that we’ve had did I agree to enter a courtship?”
“You accepted my courting gifts. That alone is an affirmative answer.”
Ochako puffed up her cheeks before she huffed out a sigh. She then put her face in her hands and turned her back to Himiko. Just as she and Ochako had stopped in the heat of their discussion, the rest of the group had stopped a little ways back to give them privacy. In the silence between her and Ochako, Himiko could hear Eri’s excited little squeals, and the faint sound of conversation from the rest of them.
To say that Himiko was confused would be a gross understatement. Beneath the annoyance and the confusion, she could feel a different emotion. It was one that she used to be intimately familiar with, but hadn’t felt in a long while.
This emotion - this instinct, rather - had kept her safe, but now it just left a bitter taste in the back of her throat.
Fear.
She was feeling fear.
And wasn’t it so odd that someone she had just met so recently could make her feel this way?
Himiko could feel herself starting to spiral, and it was as if she was outside of her body. The rapid-fire thoughts and emotions were background noise in her head while the more prominent thought of ‘I’m spiralling’ sounded off over and over again in the foreground.
When Himiko got this way, time held no meaning. It could have only been thirty seconds, but it was the longest thirty seconds of her life before Ochako turned around to face her again.
“Okay so, uh, this went way off from where I wanted it to go,” said Ochako. She grabbed Himiko’s hands from where they had been worrying in her pleated skirt. This simple, caring touch helped to pull Himiko from the ruckus of her thoughts. “I think there’s been a - cultural misunderstanding.
“You said that all the things that you’ve gifted me have been courting gifts, right?” Ochako continued. She started to brush her thumb over Himiko’s knuckles.
“Yeah?” Once again, Himiko was confused as to where exactly the other girl was going to take this.
“Humans don’t do courting gifts,” Ochako said, not unkindly. “At least, we haven’t done courting gifts for a very long time.”
“Oh,” was the only response that Himiko could give.
Fuck, she thought. So Ochako really hadn’t known. She hadn’t understood the significance behind the food and the necklace and the gemstones and the bones. Oh fuck.
Wait, did that mean -
“However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to give courting you a try,” Ochako said, and Himiko wasn’t so sure that Ochako wasn’t some kind of mind reader. She had cut off her negative assumption with an exact response.
“Alright,” Himiko said, hardly keeping the joyfulness from her voice. “so what do I need to do better?”
Ochako brought one of Himiko’s hands up and brushed her lips across her knuckles where she had been brushing her thumb.
“Communication. The reason I was so upset with you just saying we were already courting was because I didn’t like the idea of someone making such a big decision without my input. I need to work on it, too.” Ochako smiled at Himiko. The early evening sun made her eyes shine like a tiger’s eye crystal, shot through with streaks of gold. “We’re in this together.”

Fic Writer Interview
Thank you for the tag @jajalala! I love any chance to ramble about my fics slkdfjkase i am too online and v bored
Names: Dreamofmysteries/LifeOfMystery are my usernames, but ppl tend to call me either Eevee or Myst.
Fandoms: My Hero Academia is the one I write exclusively for at the mo but I read in the MCU, Miraculous Ladybug, Young Justice (Cartoon), Doctor Who, Batman and Avatar.
Where you post: AO3, used to post on FFN and Wattpad (i know it's cursedddd but i was youth *shrug*)
Most Popular One-Shot (by kudos): 'What is a brother if not a fatal annoyance'
This was a gift from a prompt by SpiritusRex (secret identity or mistaken identity) and I just went immediately for DFO, but with a twist. I'm just a sucker for big brother Shigaraki lol. I don't know why this one of all my oneshots is the most kudosed?? I guess it just hit a lot of the right targets, mistaken identity and crack being a fun thing people like. Personally I think it's alright, I wrote it half-tired (as most of my crack is written half-tired lol) but ppl seem to like that???
Most Popular Multi-chap (by kudos): 'you can't help the things your heart longs for'
This is my longest fic, still ongoing. A kind of weird DFO set up where Izuku is dragged unwillingly into a parallel universe where he's in the place of Shigaraki, but also sort of not that because the whole universe is made from the combination of DFO and Izuku's desires, and the fic goes through Izuku finding his place in this world and the complications that come from this being made of their desires. I swear this fic is going to be the death of me, I love it so but why did I have to make it soo complicated for myself, *stares at outline* also Dabi and Hawks kinda shoved their way in there and I have to keep batting off the Dabihawks with a stick *it's staying gen goddamnit i made a promise I wouldn't put romance in this*. I think it's the most popular because it has a premise that is kind of different, and has DFO, while also not being too angsty.
Favourite Story I've Written: 'Dekunubou'
I just love Ella Enchanted AU's so I was wanting to write one a whileeeeee. I just love the horror type aspect of this type of the quirk being taken to the extreme, the complete stripping of agency and objectification of Izuku. Also figuring out how to beat it was fun, with the moment when Katsuki figures out how to use the quirk for his own benefit by (technically) joining the LOV being one of the first things I thought of for this.
Fic You Were Nervous to Post: 'A Whisper of a Dream'
Uhhh the tags itself may be self-explanatory... "Torture" "Mouth Sewn Shut" "Needles", Idk I'm just drawn to writing heavy angst and this was the first one of those so I was scared ppl might think it too much? After posting this one, I've gotten less nervous about what I write as I saw ppl didn't rlly care, and some actually liked it. So freedom in going wild, I guess lol.
How do you choose your titles: Either song lyrics or I get a friend to help me come up with it. I'm awful at titles. Every one is a quote from somewhere.
Do you outline? I do for my longfics, I don't for oneshots. I find them sooo useful for longfics as I struggle so hard without them (which is why YCH hasn't been updated in so long, I'm in the bit that was outlined less strongly). I sincerely recommend them to anyone trying to write longfics!
Complete: Only like 12% of my fics are incomplete, so I'm pretty proud of that. None of them have been dropped except for the two non-bnha ones because I cannot concentrate on anything past my current hyper-focus rofl.
In Progress: You Can't Help, Twisted Soul are the two major longfics I'm working on rn, I'm trying to finish Twisted before I start writing a lot for YCH, so YCH may take a while to get regular updates again. Sorry for anyone that's more interested in that fic lol.
Coming soon: Ahh I have too many one shots that i start, write 500 words for and just leave... but my current WIPS take priority. Oo but one that should be posted soon is one where Shouto is sent to a different universe to see a Villain version of himself to see what he could have become without the support of ppl like Midoriya.
Not started: Oof. Too many ideas. Some day i will write a proper Dbhwks long fic. Oo also one where Shinsou reluctantly becomes a villain. Another one which is like Into the Spiderverse but with Villain au's for class 1-a. I will get to them someday. Just not today. Rn is DFO brainrot rofl.
Upcoming Work You're Most Excited About: Wip wise, I'm really excited for what I've got coming up for Twisted Soul. It's probably my angstiest fic because i am just too mean to Midoriya. Really, someone should take him away from me. Far far away.
No Pressure Tags: Jaja got most of the people I would tag, so umm @thanks-butt-no-thanks i knoww you don't answer tags but for me??? maybe??? @firebirdnix @starcloud-nova uhh I think that's all my fic writing mutuals lo who haven't been tagged yet. Anyone else who sees this and wants to do it go ahead! I would love to see your answers!

Dead to Me
Something about this image, just Tenko, standing there in his Fake Nerd hoodie and mask, looking at him and just being, makes something shift and ache in Natsuo’s chest.
Like the last time he saw him wasn’t kissing him goodbye three months ago as he headed out to class. Like he had not watched Tenko disintegrate a hero on live tv.
Natsuo feels like bursting.
Or, After Endeavor's fight with the High End Nomu and Dabi, Natsuo winds up back in contact with his ex.
