Hey! It’s my birthday and the Gomens brainrot has subsided to a semi-manageable level, so I’m trying Doctor Who!

I don’t know if there’s a best way to do this. I’m just starting at the beginning.

I’m halfway through episode 3. It feels very strange to my modern mind- the slow pacing, black & white, everything feels random. I do crack up every time someone says Doctor.

I’m certainly interested, though I don’t immediately love it. I intend to stick with it for some time before commuting to 800-some episodes. It may take me awhile to get into the swing of things. I’ll keep you updated.

Things I’m looking forward to:

Daleks

any explanation whatsoever of who the Doctor is or how this all got started

modern camera techniques such as zooming out instead of showing the bottom half of someone’s face

any type of action, really

Things I like so far:

appropriate skepticism rather than just immediately accepting time travel

the murder mystery feel of the first episode

the Doctor squabbling with Ian

Year-meter shows 0? Ah, must be broken lol

episodes are short (I suspect this will much annoy me once I get invested in the characters)

Things that are meh so far:

The modern females are panicky, screechy, and pretty useless

I don’t care at all about the cavemen and their situation. not finding it engaging.

So I personally began my DW journey from the new who (starting with the 9th doctor) and only later tried watching the b/w beginning, and I must confess I still believe I have not been very successful in doing so (I got stuck after maybe 10 episodes...) So yeah.. By going your way you are less likely to miss that huge part of the show. I'm very proud of you!!

For if/when you decide to try out Sherlock obsession, just know that BBC series is only one of the many adaptations and you will find a lot of them far better than Brwnneebdck Curemdbdbtch. (I and the sherlock side of the maggot family absolutely loathe don't like the bbc series, mostly for ruining dearest Irene and making Sherlock an absolute arse/crimesolving machine..) So yeah, just a heads up:)

“so, what do you think?!”

you remain quiet under the weight of his tattooed arm swung around your shoulders, fiddling with his fingers as you always do when you can’t seem to sit still. it’s a contrast to the wide-eyed gasps and bright giggles elicited from you when his sultry singing voice filled all the empty corners of your shared apartment.

“mhmm…? why is my baby quiet all of a sudden?” he chuckles, nose nudging your cheek before he plants a kiss on the soft flesh.

“you were thinking of me?”

your eyes finally meet, and the curious sparkle he sees in yours makes his heart uncontrollably race inside his ribcage.

damn, he’s whipped.

“uh-uh. are you serious?”

you feign innocence, eyes going wider, surprised at his reaction.

“oh, don’t act all cute!” he exclaims, leaning back to watch an amused smile gradually form on your lips. “who else calls me in the middle of rehearsals and whines because they’re feeling needy? at three in the morning! three! huh? tell me!”

“oh my god, shut up! when will you stop bringing that up?!” you lightly punch his thigh, ashamed of your shamelessness when your yearning for your boyfriend reaches an all-time high. now that you’re being spoiled rotten with physical affection, you can no longer fathom how you used to survive it before, being distant from him for months on end. “that’s more you!”

he blinks at you, contemplating for a moment as he combs through his collection of hazy memories. “you mean, during rehearsals or at three in the morning?”

you only raise an eyebrow in response, and the corners of his eyes crinkle as he bursts into a fit of giggles. uh-oh, this is what you must look like when you scold him for being frisky over the phone while you’re out in public, forcing you to bring the brightness of your phone all the way down or to hastily plug in your earphones.

the truth is he wants to kiss you more when you get a little mean, though he refuses to say it out loud because he knows that you won’t ever stop using it against him the same way you purposely wear red when you want to test his self-control.

“alright, so i’m crazy about you, and i even sing songs about it. sue me!”

you intertwine your fingers together, concealing a smile by planting a chaste kiss on the purple heart permanently inked on the back of his hand. “i’d rather touch you.”

at that, his hooded gaze travels down south where your crop top couldn’t reach, watching your stomach unsteadily rise and fall, and the butterfly-shaped jewelry that pierces your belly button seems to flutter its wings with every breath you take.

his teeth tugs at his bottom lip before his tongue sweeps over it, a cheeky smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

“would you mind if i touch you first?”

The party has begun! Deanne, the babysitter, never does her job, but today she decided to monopolize Davy and take him herself to blow out the candle on the cake. Cynthia didn't seem to mind much, but Terence wasn't too happy.

He stared down at the two cups of coffee with a furrowed brow. It happened on occasion, on those mindless mornings when he was still stuck somewhere between asleep and awake. His wife, Linalia, had passed away years ago, but old habits crept up on occasion. He remembered well that she needed her morning coffee lest she be irritable the remainder of the day, and this certainly wasn’t the first time it had happened.

Smiling to himself, he took both cups out onto his balcony anyways, and set one down on the table near the adjacent chair. It was, after all, her birthday, and she deserved a little treat. Once upon a time, this day would have brought him a lot of great sorrow. While the heartache remained, it had lightened over the years, warping into something more tolerable. There was a sadness in that as well, knowing it had been so long since her passing that the pain no longer sent him into a downward spiral. As if he were doing her some sort of disservice, even though it would be the last thing she wanted. They say time heals all wounds, but that presumes the source of grief is finite

“Happy Birthday, Lina.” He clinked his mug against hers before taking a sip as he looked down over early morning Ratchet. It was peaceful for now and would remain that way for at least a few hours; this was possibly his favorite time of the day. Soon enough the port town would come to life and his comm would start chiming. The mere thought of it already aggravated him, and it didn’t take long for him to decide that he would just not deal with any of it today. Not on her birthday.

The two cups of coffee were forgotten as he went inside to pack a small day bag with swimming trunks, a towel, a change of clothing, and some snacks and drinks. His comm was tossed onto his bed as he headed downstairs and out the door to his mechano-hog. He had no idea where he was headed, but it felt good to get away from everything for a while.

like i said, they wait until they’re older to even consider more children. thea and ryan are both 28 and carter’s ten when the sign up to be foster parents and they get their first placement within days, a baby boy named chance. ryan is away for a preseason roadie when thea is practically sprinting to the hospital to get their newest addition and it was supposed to be temporary.

until thea and ryan both fall in love with the little boy. he just slots into their family so easily and carter takes on the big brother roll so well. he cries one day when he finds out what forster means and at the realization that chance might not be with them forever. through some miracle, they’re able to adopt the boy shortly after his second birthday and just a week later, they get word that chance’s birth mother had just given birth again to a little girl.

it was almost too easy to welcome little celine into their home. they thought that their family had been complete with chance, but they hadn’t had the opportunity to love lina yet. three kids was enough for them and yeah, they were so happy with the way that everything turned out.

“This question goes like this” I looked at the whole class. “Anyone got questions?” he got up from his seat as well, “No questions?” everyone shook their heads, “good”

I was about to solve another question, my phone started ringing. “Excuse me” I took my phone. “This is kind of urgent” he nodded, and since he was standing so close to me, I didn’t had to tell him anything more, “carry on with the next problem” he nodded.

I went out of the class and picked up the call, “are you done with your part already?”

“Yea”

I was so thankful to my other friends, because I know everyone is so busy with their thesis but we all found time to do this, I know it’s very important and special for me. I’m so happy everyone decided to give this a go.

“Then come fast, to the place we decided, we need your help and since he would be busy with students right now, so it’s a win-win situation.”

“Okay, coming.” I smiled and hung up, I didn’t tell Changkyun about it and left the classroom.

I entered the classroom and locked the door. “Hazel, come here” I walked towards Mimosa, “help me these balloons and flower petals”

“Okay” I helped her with the balloons, I saw Lau setting up the balloons, he looked at me and smiled.

“I’m so excited!!” I looked at Lina, “for his birthday surprise?” I looked at her surprised, “NO”

“NO?”

“I’m excited for you” I turned my head to take a better view of her face, because I couldn’t understand her, “stop trying to fool us Hazel” I wondered what did I do?

“What did I do?”

“We all know about you and Changkyun” there’s no way anyone would know beside Minhyuk, because he is my bestfriend and my secret keeper.

“You know what Lina?”

“Hazel…. we know how good friends you are and how much you wanted to surprise him” thank…god for this.

“Okay” once me and Mimosa were done with the balloons, we helped Lau to set them up. Soon after that we were done with petals as well.

“We are nothing Lina, stop it, and let’s get over this decorations as soon as possible”

“Okay captain, and Minhyuk is coming soon with the cake” I nodded at her words

I heard a knock and I was sure it was Minhyuk, I knew Changkyun won’t come until he’s done with class and I call him here. So, I went to open the door.

“Am I late?” I smiled as soon I saw Minhyuk, “No, you’re not” he gave me a quick hug lifting the cake box so that it doesn’t get ruined or anything. “Hope you’re doing okay” he whispered to me and I nodded, “a little nervous I guess?”

“It’s fine” and he gave me a tight hug and then smiled at me. “let’s go and complete setting everything up” I nodded and he locked the door. “Hazel hold this for a minute” he gave me the cake box, “I’ve something, I kept it outside, let me bring it” I was confused but I nodded at his words anyway. “Okay”

He went outside, and I kept the cake on the table, and then we completed the decorations and the happy birthday balloons were set perfectly. I heard the door open and close again, I turned to look at Minhyuk, he was holding a bouquet full of red roses, I was surprised.

He leaned towards my ears and said, “give it to him later. He’ll be happy.” this whole thing went unnoticed by everyone, “a bouquet?” I turned to look at Mimosa, “yes, I brought it just now. It’s his birthday afterall, he would be so happy and here, me and Hazel are the seniors so, I guess getting a bouquet on his birthday would make him feel nice and happy”

“This is for you”

“Huh?”

“I agree” Lau said and all of us smiled.

Minhyuk checked everything first and said everything’s perfect. “Is it time already?” Lina asked me, I looked at my wristwatch, and nodded. “let me call him” everyone nodded.

I dialled his number and after three rings he picked up the call; before he could speak I spoke “Is the class over?”

“Yes, it is. Why didn’t you comeback? And is your work done?”

“Kind of yes, but can you come to room no. 208? Right now?”

“He is coming guys, switch off the lights and pull the curtain to make the room dark!!” everyone started doing it, Minhyuk came near me and said, “I’m keeping this bouquet at the back so that only you can give it to me and you look perfect today so don’t be nervous.” I nodded at his words and he went to keep the bouquet hidden at the back. After he came back to me, he side hugged me and kissed my hair, “you can do this”

“No need to say please, I’m coming.”

“Okay” And I hung up

We heard the door open, “Hazel? are you there? And why is this room so dark?”

“Hazel?” he called my name once again, I know everyone was probably smiling and trying to hold back their laughter. He switched on the lights and we all shouted in unison, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHANGKYUN”

He looked surprised, and the look he had on his face was so precious, like no one could give me the peace and happiness I got when I saw his priceless reaction. I love him so much.

“Oh god, what is this? And thank you so much.” We walked towards him and everyone gave him hugs and wished him one by one.

I was left, I didn’t hug him but I did wish him. I could say he was expecting me to go and hug him but I didn’t. I didn’t want to ruin the main event which I decided for him.

After wishing, we took him to the table so that he could blow the candles and cut the cake, he looked happy. After setting the candles, I lit them up.

“Make a wish” he closed his eyes for a second, then he looked at me before blowing the candles.

After cake cutting, everyone had fun, and he got gifts. Everything went like the way a surprise birthday should go like.

“You know it was Hazel’s idea, this whole planning, we just helped.” I looked at Mimosa for exposing me. I saw Minhyuk, going to the back and brining the bouquet, and none of them noticed him, keeping it on the other side of the table.

“You all helped me, don’t give me the credit like that” I was embarrassed because he was staring at me, watching each move and movement. “Okay, guys, wanted to tell you that Andrea Ma’am called four of us because of our thesis so let’s go” Minyuk grabbed everyone and winked at me.

“But Hazel-”

“Sometimes I really don’t like the fact that we need to take tutorial classes and do thesis as Ph.D students and we need to clean at least half of this place” Lau looked at me, “don’t worry I’ll do it”

“We will join you once we are done with Andrea ma’am okay?” Minhyuk gave me a look, he knows how to handle these situations so well.

It was just me and him inside the room, standing infront of eachother.

“Okay”

“Now let’s go or we will be late” Minhyuk dragged everyone out of the room and closed the door.

“Happy Birthday” I finally looked at him and said. I felt better. I was about to and bring the bouquet to give it to me, but he walked towards me and trapped me, in between his arms. His hands were reasting on the table and my heartbeat went crazy, the closeness between us was slowly making me nervous.

“No gifts for me, no hugs for me?” his voice was deeper than usual and I was losing my mind over him again. I tried pushing him back; so that I could focus on what I want to do and breath normally, he took a step back, and I went towards the other side of the table where Minhyuk kept the bouquet. I picked it up and looked back at him, the table was the only thing keeping us apart.

“I’m disappointed…”

“Huh?”

“Yes” and gave him the bouquet. He looked confused, “Yes?”

I took a deep breath, I knew how tough it was to admit it infront of a boy whom I like, whom I want to be my first in everything. “The answer is yes” he looked amazed, I could tell it from his look. I gave him the answer of his confession he made a week ago, I wanted to give him a birthday gift.

He walked towards me and lifted me up, holding my waist, “Tell me you’re serious” I smiled at him, “It’s a yes Changkyun. I want you to be my first. I am saying yes to you. I want you to be mine”

He let me down on the floor, “And this your birthday gift” I kissed him on his cheeks quickly.

He accepted the bouquet from me, and pulled me by my waist, “you’ve no idea how much I waited for you everyday and every second.” I put my arms around his neck, “same” he smiled at me.

“You’re amazing and thankyou for giving me the best gift on my birthday” he smiled, he should know his smiles do something to me and I forget to breath. He leaned towards me slowly, “can I?” he was looking at me with the eyes full of love.

I didn’t give an answer but kissed him instead. He pulled me closer and kissed me back. After few seconds, he said, “I fell in love with you the moment I saw you.” in between kisses and kissed me again.

“I want to fall deeper in your love Changkyun” he pulled apart and kissed me on my forehead.
