Followup conversation with Shadowheart, post-All-of-That-Nonsense.

"My parents. I saw them, spoke to them... and let them go. It's... it's more than I can take in just now. Give me a night, to try and get my head together."

OK, so not really a conversation, just a line, but still. Poor Shadowheart. :( Jennifer English does a tremendous job with these moments where Shadowheart's really conflicted or upset; she gets this little catch in her voice that makes me want to pick her (Shadowheart, that is, though maybe Jennifer English too, idk) up and take her somewhere safe where she won't have to make that sound anymore.

Hector feels really terrible about the whole business, and there are a lot of layers as to why.

a) Shadowheart is upset, and Shadowheart is his friend and sorta-kinda-protege(?) and does not deserve all the shit that Shar has put her through. b) Shadowheart has met and lost her parents simultaneously. Hector has never known his and can't decide if that's better or worse, because there was still something oddly compelling about the expression of pride that her father gave her before he died. c) Hector has met Shar in the "flesh", spoken to her directly - the precise manifestation of everything he was trained to fight against. (And meanwhile, his own goddess has never once spoken to him directly.) d) On some level, even though Shadowheart is free of the curse, this feels like Shar has won simply by the amount of pain she has caused Shadowheart. e) According to the dogma Hector was raised with, it should be considered a victory for Selune instead! She has two new martyrs! Shar's curse has been thwarted! But he can take no satisfaction in that because of what it did to his friend in the process.

Let's get the fuck out of here. Quick glance around the room first.

The only thing of major significance in here is the Mirror of Loss at the back of the room, which presumably was the mirror used to steal away Shadowheart's memories repeatedly:

Narrator: A huge, polished disc looms before you. A mirror - one used by the Sharrans to plunder memories from the minds of others.

"This feels familiar to me somehow. I'm sure I've stood before this mirror before... many times, perhaps..."

Interestingly, one of the options here is a Selunite-specific one to pray to the mirror. I'm not sure why anyone, least of all Hector, would think this would do anything positive, but sure, why not:

[SELUNE][RELIGION] Offer a prayer to the mirror.

We get disadvantage on this because Hector is Selunite, apparently, and it's a DC25 check.

LOL. I could try and spend inspiration on this but honestly this makes more sense under the circumstances.

Narrator: Your prayers fade away into the nothingness of the mirror, unacknowledged.

Sad Hector face! D:

OK, I am actually curious what happens if we succeed this, so backing up, casting Enhance Ability on Hector, and savescumming like crazy.

Narrator: You feel a presence, dark and ancient. It approves of your fealty.

OK, that's not the kind of prayer I thought Hector was offering based on the [SELUNITE] tag, lol. RELOAD.

We also have the option here to offer memories to the mirror; @zenjestrr tells me this would give us a +2 to any attribute, even going over the normal cap of 20. But Hector, obviously, is not going to touch that with a ten-foot pole.

I think we're done with this place. Let's GTFO.

Do any of the Curse of Darkness adaptations say that Dracula deliberately pitted Hector against Isaac?

It just occurred to me that it would make sense for Dracula to do that (after all, one Devil Forgemaster is easier to deal with than two working in tandem, should one of them turn against him). But I haven’t read any of the CoD adaptations, so I don’t know if any of them used that idea. It would be chilling if any of them explored that.

Actually no!

Personally I'm not too sure that deliberately pitting them against each other would be more convenient to Dracula than having them be coordinated: imagine conducting a war, and having to rely on two bickering teenagers :P But in canon it's a moot point, because it's implied that Dracula simply praised Hector as the more talented one.

PtR gives us this:

"Good for you that you can judge our Lord’s deeds… It’s not bad for my position. But I will not tolerate any disservice and betrayal towards Him."

"Take a look at this pathetic sight, my Lord, my broken sword used as a cane. My body is the proof of your expectations for him. Please ridicule me, scold me: next time, I will do whatever it takes."

(for context, Hector defeated Isaac by slashing his legs, and he didn't even have the courtesy of finishing him off, forcing him to deal with the consequences)

The second line pretty much sums up how Dracula saw his two Devil Forgemasters. Isaac knows, or at the very least believes, that Dracula would have expected Hector to win because he's the stronger one, and the proof is in how he utterly humiliated Isaac.

Speaking of Dracula:

“What did he wish from me, that he even rebelled…? Unforgiveness is my nature. The more precious things are, the more they resist and are lost…”

Another translation of that line is "So is one dear, so is one wrested away".

Dracula considers Hector precious. My first interpretation is that he's also thinking about Alucard, who opposed his father roughly at the same time... But make of this what you will.

The MF manga focuses a lot more on Isaac's insecurity of not being as good as Hector, but again, we don't really see much of how the two were treated.

Something to note is that while it was Isaac who warned Dracula that Trevor Belmont was becoming a concern...

... Dracula sent Hector instead, and left Isaac in the castle.

The implication is that Dracula trusted Hector, and only Hector, with the troublesome task of killing the Belmont.

Obviously Drac wants his best Devil Forgemaster back, and so he orders Isaac and his underlings to find out what happened to him - indirectly dooming himself in the process, because without Hector and Isaac protecting him, Trevor and his friends easily steamrolled through the castle. Neither Isaac and his underlings are happy with this, but while the former's protests got immediately shut down by Dracula, the latter are free to talk among themeselves.

It's nice that these guys think Isaac alone could do the job, but I don't know what they were expecting, shittalking Dracula and touching Isaac's sorest spot within earshot :P

This scene becomes outright hilarious in Japanese, because that "the Count favored Lord Hector that much" line is slightly different:

In context it does mean the same thing, but the verb used is 可愛がる, which...

Again. Make of this what you will.

(in case you're wondering, there are other verbs that express the concept of unfairly favoring someone, that don't imply... this.)

And just to cap it all off:

And there it is. There is no canon indication that Dracula played games with his Devil Forgemasters. He just liked Hector more than Isaac.

Interestingly, Isaac is not the first rival in CV who suffers from jealousy issues (Hugh Baldwin and Maxim Kishin come to mind, mostly the former), but in his case, the topic barely comes up, and it's never mentioned in the game proper - in fact, the opposite sentiment is said.

I'm okay with this, because he has already a lot on his plate, and he doesn't need to hate Hector out of jealousy: the betrayal is good reason enough. But it's implied that these negative feelings made him easy prey to the Curse.

I keep forgetting I can just make unhinged rambling tumblr posts on my ideas instead of necessarily immediately writing them all so here is What If Nacho Was a Salamanca and Lalo Was a Varga: The Lacho AU in text post form

first we gotta think about what changes there'd be to their personalities based on their upbringings. then what's the same? nature vs. nurture. both are important aspects of people's identities.

Nacho Salamanca

Ignacio Salamanca is born in the 70s, the first new Salamanca after a long dry spell. because of this, his birth is a celebratory event, and he's summarily spoiled as the first baby of the generation by Hector and the others.

(Tuco is born a few months later, and still has a bug up his ass about getting the middle child treatment. stupid doe-eyed cousin.)

being brought up in that environment, I feel, would foster a lot of nastiness in Nacho. in canon, we see that his father is basically his "morality pet," the one who makes him regret joining the cartel, but what about without that? think of s1 Nacho. scary, ruthless, threatening violence easily. can you imagine that sort of personality raised as a Salamanca?

of course, he wouldn't be a Tuco. in fact, he'd still be the only person capable of calming Tuco down (they've got a great relationship apart from Tuco's jealousy). Nacho isn't the type to fly off the handle at the slightest provocation.

he is, however, the type who will methodically stalk you until he knows your routines, then kidnap you and skin you inch by inch in front of your lover if you cross him.

Nacho is a calm kind of insane. personable, affable, smug and sarcastic in equal measures. he won't always get his revenge right away, but he'll remember what you did and make sure you pay for it.

and he's, like the rest, fiercely loyal to his family. you cross them? you're dead in the most painful way possible. he'll do it with a smirk, too.

Lalo Varga

Eduardo Varga is born to a simple family a little over a decade before the Salamancas welcome Nacho into their lives. his mother passes early on in his life, but he has her eyes and her laugh and her cooking skills that Manuel could never quite master.

being raised by Manuel would not fix Lalo entirely, I think, but it would make him markedly better. a friendly, jocular, caring man who loves his single father more than the world. you know how he looks at Hector in canon, like the sun shines out of his ass? that's how he looks at Manuel now.

for years, he works happily with his father at the shop. until one day when he's re-upholstering some seats and finds a big brick of drugs... and, well, money has been tight for so long.

it isn't long before the Salamancas find out someone they don't know is peddling their drugs -- in THEIR territory, no less (Lalo's not stupid, but he's definitely not wise to the ways of the game at first). not kicking up any money to the supplier, not respecting the Salamancas enough to meet them properly.

The Meet-Cute

rather than living in Mexico like Lalo, I think it'd be interesting if Nacho lived in ABQ with Tuco. he's smart, so he's the one they task with finding the stray little dealer.

Lalo doesn't cover his tracks nearly well enough, so Nacho does. has some burly men throw a bag over Lalo's head and bring him to the Salamancas.

then he's on trial in a kangaroo court, fighting for his life. he doesn't beg or plead or cry. he's charismatic, charming, a talker. apologizes and pays respects and explains his situation, but never weeps for mercy like some wretched, pathetic little thing.

Nacho likes that.

so it's Nacho who talks down his less forgiving primo and tio. death sentence to probation: Lalo sells for them, properly, for a while, and they get to decide if he stays in the business or if he and his father get capped.

and what can Lalo do but obey?

The Conclusion

I just think it'd be hot okay. imagine Nacho as the lowkey unhinged one and Lalo as the peppy, cute daddy's boy. making each other worse slowly in different ways as Lalo gives Nacho the dokis and Nacho gives Lalo a newfound appreciation for hurting people who cross you and your family.

Finished Blazing Blade (FE7) Hector Hard Mode tonight!

Earlier this year, I decided on the long term goal of attempting to finish every mainline Fire Emblem game on the hardest difficulty. There's 8 of them I haven't even played yet (FE1-6 and the two DS games), and most of the games I have I've only finished on easier difficulties, so... there's a lot to do. When they released Blazing Blade on Nintendo Switch Online over the summer, that felt like a good place to start making serious effort towards this goal.

One unfortunate catch, though: I was starting from a new save file. And Hector Hard is unlocked by completing Hector Normal. And Hector is unlocked by completing Eliwood. And I decided I wanted to do Eliwood Hard as well. So in the end I did 4 different playthroughs of the game over the past several months. Suffice to say I've had enough of Blazing Blade for a very long time if not forever, lol. I am NOT going to miss the overly limited deployment slots.

Character and chapter info:

Farina (431 Battles / 271 Wins / 1 Loss)

Girl!

I planned on her being my main late-game carry since before the playthrough even began, and she performed far better than I even expected. She did get a good number of statboosters (Afa's Drops, Angelic Robe, 2 Goddess Icons, Talisman, Boots, Body Ring), but her four capped stats were (aside from Afa's Drops) all capped naturally. She had 18 Defense after promotion! She soloed a ton of late game without any trouble at all.

Florina (309 Battles / 184 Wins / 4 Losses)

Also Girl!

With the help of Lyn Mode statboosters she was my main carry until Farina came along, at which point she was still very useful but was outclassed by What The Hell Farina How Do You Have So Much Defense. Her absurd luck was incredibly helpful against all the Luna enemies.

Oswin (281 Battles / 138 Wins / 1 Loss)

Very lucky Oswin here, with almost every stat being above average. Turns out having an utterly absurd Defense stat is pretty good.

Hector (268 Battles / 116 Wins / 2 Losses)

...Very mediocre. 8 Skill before promotion... that he can't do until there's like 5 chapters left... ow ow ow. This game sure does have some baffling design choices.

Bartre (255 Battles / 149 Wins / 0 Losses)

Was required to use him for full recruitment, but then uhhh what the hell Bartre? What are these stats how are you 4 above average in both Skill and Speed oh my god.

Raven (221 Battles / 134 Wins / 2 Losses)

His level ups were largely not great, but he did get a LOT of Luck levels early on to shore up his main weakness and was otherwise carried by his absurd Hard Mode bases.

Fiora (203 Battles / 133 Wins / 1 Loss)

The least useful of the Pegasus Sisters this playthrough due to her lower strength, but still had a very nice niche with her Res. She got to be my main carry in Eliwood Hard at least!

Eliwood (156 Battles / 82 Wins / 0 Losses)

Pretty good Strength and Speed, though ultimately didn't get used too much.

Marcus (89 Battles / 52 Wins / 0 Losses)

Performed his Jagen role admirably.

Guy (78 Battles / 44 Wins / 0 Losses)

Being my first Hard Mode Bonuses character, I tried to use him, but then he failed to get a single point of Strength in 10 levels and was too weak to keep up.

Lyn (63 Battles / 34 Wins / 0 Losses)

Promoted at Level 17. I tried to use her early (especially thanks to aiming for Linus's Four-Fanged Offense) but her strength and defenses were just too awful to be worth using after that point.

Legault (26 Battles / 11 Wins / 2 Losses)

Yup he sure did steal things while having additional limited combat utility.

Serra (18 Battles / 5 Wins / 0 Losses)

My main staff user until Pent arrived, though she still stuck around whenever deployment slots actually allowed for it.

Pent (12 Battles / 6 Wins / 0 Losses)

Didn't get used much for combat, but he became my main staff user late-game.

Athos (6 Battles / 3 Wins / 0 Losses)

Yup he sure did a good job of "guaranteed final boss kill with Luna and some speed statboosters".

Ninian/Nils (3 Battles / 0 Wins / 0 Losses, combined)

I told myself this would be the playthrough I would actually use the rings more and then I still had barely used them by the time the game was over, oops. Oh well.

Since you can't save between completing this chapter and choosing the character mode afterward, I had to redo this chapter. Had to wait at the end for Nils to reach Level 7 (why is that a thing...).

Ch11 Another Journey (18 Turns) Took a surprisingly annoying number of attempts, though I was probably being too reckless. Welcome to Hector Hard I guess.

Ch12 Birds of a Feather (7 Turns) Ch13 In Search of Truth (14 Turns) Ch13x The Peddler Merlinus (8 Turns) Ch14 False Friends (10 Turns) Ch15 Talons Alight (8 Turns) Ch16 Noble Lady of Caelin (15 Turns)

Ch17 Whereabouts Unknown (21 Turns) Had one of the soldiers die here because I wasn't expecting them to immediately rush to their death and get ORKO'd by the enemy right outside of the cell noooooooo

Ch17x The Port of Badon (17 Turns)

Ch18 Pirate Ship (12 Turns) Every other playthrough I ended the chapter early by defeating the boss, so it was interesting to actually play it out this time. Did still barely manage to steal the boss's item on the final turn, having to plan it out exactly several turns in advance.

Ch19 The Dread Isle (13 Turns)

Ch19x Imprisoner of Magic (44 Turns) Managed to defeat Kishuna first try, which I was really grateful for given how much time I spent grinding on his morphs beforehand lol.

Ch19x pt2 A Glimpse in Time (19 Turns) Ch20 Dragon's Gate (20 Turns) Ch21 New Resolve (15 Turns)

Ch22 Kinship's Bond (7 Turns) Lost an attempt annoyingly far in because of confusion with enemy ranges, and how it doesn't show that an enemy can attack from a space if another enemy is already standing there (even though said enemy can move or die...). Bleh.

Ch23 Living Legend (33 Turns) Was super worried about the HHM exclusive fog, but then I ended up having a significantly easier time than I did in EHM due to the altered boss locations and them not moving.

Ch23x Genesis (31 Turns) This had a terrifying first impression, but it became significantly easier once I remembered that the Barrier Staff exists.

Ch24 Four-Fanged Offense [Linus] (36 Turns)

Ch25 Crazed Beast (120 Turns) This is the start of massive turn count bloat due to going for supports (mainly Hector/Farina A, and later Eliwood/Lyn A just because). The GBA support system is such terrible nonsense. But anyway, first chapter with Farina, and I took advantage of all the monks that could do nothing to her to grind her to Level 2 promoted. She ended the chapter with 18 defense!!

Ch26 Unfulfilled Heart (12 Turns) Decided to go for the Armory on the final turn, which 18 Defense Farina + Nini's Grace was able to do while surviving Vaida easily.

Ch27 Pale Flower of Darkness [Jerme] (98 Turns). Aimed for Jerme's because I did Kenneth in my EHM playthrough, and Hard Mode bonuses favor the Jerme units regardless. Got Harken because I wanted to try him out with Hard Mode bonuses… and then never used him, but I did at least use his Brave Sword. Another bloated turn count due to supports.

Ch28 Battle Before Dawn (16 Turns) Farina rushed for Ursula and nearly soloed everything in the way, making this chapter easy once reinforcements were stopped.

Ch28x Night of Farewells (98 Turns) Another chapter with Farina rushing for the boss to stop reinforcements, killing Sonia on Turn 3. And then the rest was spent slowly cleaning things up while being terrified of the status staff enemies, and then spending forever to finally reach Hector/Farina A.

Ch29 Cog of Destiny (40 Turns) Florina got unexpectedly hit by a Berserk staff early on, which was terrifying but then none of the enemies around her managed to actually do anything to her.

Ch30 The Berserker (20 Turns) I gave it a decent amount of tries with Hector + Legault to try to steal the statboosters, but had way too much trouble and my strat required a lot of luck so I decided to not bother and cleared it super easily with Hector + Farina.

Ch31 Sands of Time (12 Turns) Warped to and killed the boss Turn 1, making the rest of the chapter mostly fairly simple (...mainly thanks to getting lucky dodges against the status staff enemies).

Ch31x Battle Preparations (6 Turns)

Ch32 Victory or Death (18 Turns) This chapter felt incredibly overwhelming. Farina could take on basically everyone by herself, but there being so many enemies meant she had to return to the main group to restock her weapons, and I also wanted to get every village. I thought the attempt was lost midway through, but I guess there's a 50 enemy limit, so a lot of the reinforcements I was worried about and expecting didn't show up.

Ch32x The Value of Life (33 Turns) Spent most of this chapter feeding kills to Hector because I felt like it, which is how he ended the game at Level 18.

Final Light (20 Turns) Finished off Nergal with an unnecessary Farina Triangle Attack, then killed the Dragon with the guaranteed Athos + Luna.

Total: 949 Turns

Round One has finished!

Here are the results:

Barb vs. Mx. Morell

The odds were not in Barb's favor today, the demon of the Resting Place played a good game but Mx. Morell had the upper hand. The proprietor of the Museum of Broken Promises might have a new exhibit on display soon, but for now they move on to the next round.

Olivier vs. Tiff

Dreamer, it seems that Tiff tried to use some real firepower for this match but Olivier called up a storm of support that really snuffed out those flames. With Round One under her belt, Olivier is starting off with a perfect record.

The Countess vs. Xyzikxyz

Despite going up against the source of her power, The Countess did not hold back; it seems her claims of nobody being able to resist her were true. Xyz put up a good fight though, and hopefully they’ll spill the cosmic tea about the details.

Dimes vs. Brooklyn

The Diamond Rider dazzled us all in their battle against this former assistant, although Brooklyn did put up a good fight. It would seem that being good at scheduling only goes so far when your opponent has a dog that sparkles as much as they do. The interdimensional powers help too.

Riot vs. Hector

Hector might have had a bunch of weapons and two dogs, but all his knowledge was no match against a girl with a sword and a leather vest. This assistant groundskeeper continues to prove her skills and proceeds to Round Two.

Lolgmalolg vs. Bern

Fighting off hordes of froglins must have given Bern all the experience she needed to take on Lolgmalolg today. She Who Lurks Beneath might have plenty of followers, but they weren't enough to give her the win. Another victory for this Scoutpost survivor.

Nikignik vs. Huntington Waites

One hundred eyes in the dark and all of them saw Nikignik's defeat of Huntington Waites. The Indescribable might not have a physical body, but he didn't need one in order to beat this undead hunter. We predict many people will have interesting dreams tonight.

Diggory vs. Ricou

Unfortunately Ricou cannot take home the title of Hallowoods Sexiest Being to add to his collection of shiny things, it's Diggory who's moving on to the next round. This dead goth towered above the competition and clawed their way to victory.

Polly vs. Violet

Violet has learned the hard way that a raincoat and boots are nice, but an umbrella works even better. Polly was on fire today, he dressed to impress and certainly knew how to win the crowd's favor, and while Violet tried her hardest it turns out you can't negotiate your way to the next round.

Danielle vs. The Omen

With claws and beaks and sharp words The Omen snagged a win against Danielle. Having the ability to control dreams is very useful, but what happens when your opponent doesn't sleep? It's another feather in The Omen's figurative cap today.

Jonah vs. Moth

Dreamers, Moth has scored another victory, this time against a fisherman who keeps coming back from the dead. Maybe Jonah can take the time to kick up his feet and see if he can catch anything, but moth has proved mothself's style is worthy of continuing on to Round Two.

Lady Ethel Mallory vs. Zelda

Despite her impressive marketing skills, Lady Ethel Mallory has learned the hard way that you can't get everything that you want. Sometimes you lose a sexiness competition to an old woman who likes making watercress sandwiches. It happens.

Yaretzi vs. Winona

It seems like victory was not in the cards today, but perhaps Winona saw these results coming anyway. After all, Yaretzi is a servant of Tolshotol who eats the hearts of demons for breakfast. She deserves a gold medal to go with her jewelry.

Milo and Venus vs. Valerie

Dreamers, we can't beleaf this. Valerie continued to wow the crowd today and took home another win, Milo and Venus had some people really rooting for them, but it was not enough to sprout success against this former rock star.

Ray vs. Percy

Who has four wheels and is going on to Round Two? This classy automobile of course. Sparks flew today in this ghostly match, and while Percy played on our heartstrings, Ray revved his way to victory in this match.

Walt vs. Nolan

Despite being invisible, Nolan put up a good fight in his match against Walt. This groundskeeper can't rest yet, not when he's moving on to the next round. Still, these matches are good for filling pages in his almanac.

9 times Stanley was oblivious and 1 time he wasn't.

“This game is mean.” Hector huffed. “Why would anyone come up with a game where you hang a stick figure. And with only six tries no matter how long the word is!”

“Yeah, the guy who made up this game must have been a sadistic bastard.” Stanley said with a laugh. He erased the stick figure and spaces to start a new game. Like the last, the new word had four letters. Stanley only gave Hector the consonants and he had to guess the vowels all on his own.

“What words have two ‘L’s?” Hector asked.

“Enough.” Stanley replied with a little chuckle. Lying back to stretch out over his cot.

Stanley tossed the cap and bandanna from his head onto his blankets. Calloused hands ran threw his messy brown curls with a relaxed sigh. Hector’s eyebrows narrowed, looking back at the other boy as light bounced off of smiling blue eyes. Energized instead of blinking away exhaustion.

Finally Stanley could take a breath.

“Is it a doing word?” Hector asked. His hand went to fiddle with the edge of the notebook paper. Yet his eyes were still on Stanley laid out on the cot. Brown eyes met blue.

“Person, place, or thing this time, buddy.” Stanley said without breaking eye contact. His arms tucked snugly behind his head.

For a week now Hector had been digging a part of Stanley’s hole every day. It was the least Hector could do to show he appreciated the taller boy. There was so much Stanley had already done for him in the few months they had known each other. Being Hector’s only friend at camp for one. Looking at Hector like he was now.

“Nouns are stupid, too.” Hector said. Eyes pulling away from his friend and back to the notebook. He had decided on his first guess, ‘belt’.

“Great work sounding it out.” Stanley said with an unguarded smile. “Only one ‘L’ in belt, though.”

His next guess was ‘belly'.

“Don’t know what you’re complaining about. You are getting good at this.” Stanley sat up to grab the pencil from Hector’s lap. He wrote in a ‘y’ for the fourth letter. The empty space angered Hector. If it was such a good guess, then there wouldn’t be any blanks. He would have already won.

“How was that not it!”

24E. oh boy we're really in it now

important: implied animal cruelty. if that makes you uncomfy, skip this one. if not, all aboard for part one of the fetch quest!

Eliwood and friends infiltrate Bern castle and... hide in a bush. I'm imagining a Scooby-Doo-esque head stack

Desmond tells her to go play, then gets pissed at Zephiel for being a loving brother. he accuses him of wanting to see Guinevere dead and tells him and Murdock to fuck off. classic Desmond *laugh track*

Sonia shows up and helpfully exposits on the Fire Emblem's location. nice. she senses someone but Desmond says "don't worry it's my kid", which is convenient. anyway, she leaves

Guinevere is upset that Zephiel is gone. Desmond, in a rare display of non-jackassery, offers to play with her, but she declines.

(one reason I love these GBA cutscenes is that the portraits move left/right across the screen easily, making them more dynamic. above, Desmond moves closer to Guinevere and she backs away from him. it reflects action in a way you just don't get with models)

anyway, Guinevere goes to find Zephiel and gives Desmond her baby fox to hold. I think we all know where this is going

Desmond does love his daughter, but it doesn't make him any better. usually you see "oh the villain has a loved one" as easy sympathy points, but not here. kinda refreshing

cut to the lords discussing how bad the situation is. they decide to bounce, and then we cut to Ninian and Nils outside. Ninian is worried because they've been in there for a while

you're a little late, Nils, they got their A last chapter. also, rare Ninian exclamation point

they get surprised by this lady, Vaida, who they can't sense because something something Nergal did it. she's looking for the two, and the lords catch up and call her a lackey. honestly hilarious

Vaida says nuh-uh and tells her troops to attack.

side note: there's a well-known exploit known as the "mine glitch", where if you close the game when a mine goes off and then input a series of buttons, you can control enemies. Vaida's spear is coded to give its wielder big stat buffs. guess what people do

the combat's not so bad. there are wyvern reinforcements near the shops in the top right, but otherwise it's definitely manageable

but before we get to that, Pent and Louise join! Pent gives us a Heaven seal, used to promote Hector or Lyn.

Posally ~ Repeating!Mythology [Hector and Andromache]

"POSEIDON !"

I could hear the booming voice coming from all around us. Heavy and threatening. Like thunder, growing closer and closer each passing second.

I didn't need to ask who it was. I knew it would happen. We both did.

Though Zeus' voice was in nothing as scary and hurtful as the resignation I saw in my lover's eyes.

"I have to go or he'll follow me everywhere. He'll hurt you." His eyes dropped down. "You both." I followed his look to meet my son's. Percy Jackson. Son of Poseidon. Soon fatherless.

I wanted to protest, to cry, to beg, to clinge. But what was the point ? Fate was something written in marble. And our love story wasn't lettered in it.

I was so resigned that the hope I perceived in his ultimate words almost made me hate him :

"Have you made up your mind on my offer ?"

His offer. A palace below the horizon, down into the sea. It sounded like a dream. One I couldn't refuse. But not one I shouldn't refuse.

So many stories of women left behind, kept aside for his own pleasure, his own conscience, if a god could have any. But not much stories ending in a happily ever after.

There was no happily ever after for the married man, the poor struggling mother and the illicit newborn in my world. In his there wasn't even one for the princes and princesses.

So yes. I had made up my mind.

"I can't, Poseidon. This is not my world."

I could see in his eyes that he wanted to fight me on this. But as if memories deeper and farther than I could ever fathom had flashed before his eyes, they went back to numbness and resilience.

"I understand." No he didn't. How could he ?

This time the voice didn't just sound like thunder. It was. A clear indicator of what the king of Olympus would use to strike this flat if we were to keep this conversation going on any longer.

"Duty calls me." Duty. What a poetic and neutral way of putting it.

"As it calls me too." I said hugging my son tighter. If I couldn't hold back the bitter comment, I held back the bitterness in my voice.

I half expected him to get angry, storm out, or worse, laugh at my comment. But he only cupped my cheek with a tenderness I had only ever known from him.

"You are a goddess among men, Sally Jackson. Our son is as lucky to have you for a mother than I was of meeting you. Never forget it."

One tear escaped my eyes but evaporated as soon as she touched his thumb.

God of water, maybe that way you'll keep a part of me with you.

Then so soflty, so gently, he kissed me. I had dreaded this moment from the moment I met him. But at last, here we were. I didn't know distance was a feeling that a kiss could ever taste like, but nothing could describe this last sign of affection better. I almost smiled realizing how he had found a way to teach me one last thing before leaving me forever. Leaving us.

Reluctantly, he pulled away.

At least it was reluctant. I shall hold onto that.

His eyes opened to look into mine one last time before darting toward Percy.

"Son, one day you'll be of age to protect your mother. When this day comes I'll be there to guide you as best as I could." I resisted the urge to ask what would happen until this age. "Until then, love her and respect her. So my love for her can shine through your eyes, your actions and words."

He kissed his forehead. A tender kiss. A fatherly kiss.

It was unsettling to see how he seemed to have mastered this display of affection. But the tears at the corner of his eyes washed all my bitterness away.

Then so slowly, he took a step back. It was as if all his moves were played in slow motion before my eyes as he retrieved his cap and coat. And when he seemed finally ready to leave for good, I couldn't hold the words back anymore :

"I love you. I'm not saying that to make you stay or confuse you, only...only in the hope that you don't forget."

"I won't. I won't ever forget, Sally."

And in a glimmer of green bubbles and light, he was gone. Leaving me alone with the painful feeling that he was lying, and that he knew he did.

I don't know for how long I had remained still before a dangerous growl resonated in the street. Different than Zeus' voice but not less dangerous. It was scarier, closer, familiar.

And in this instant, as I finally looked at my halfblood son sleeping soundly in my arms, I realized that the monsters I dreaded my whole life now wanted something I had. And that I would do anything to protect it. Something I didn't know if I could do alone. But something I knew no hero would come to rescue me from.

As soon as he plugs the transponder in, everything goes dramatically to shit and all of it happens at once.

First of all, a dragon pokes its head inside the busted up cockpit of the Nautiloid and tries to blow him up.

And then the whole ship teleported straight out of hell and into some weird space dimension, complete with occasional zero-G and being hurled about like rocks in a hurricane:

After managing to get a grip on the transponder again, we got vwooped off to a whole NEW dimension which seems like it could possibly be the material plane.

A rather bucolic area in fact, where the locals (who seem to be a mishmash - drow, orc, possibly goblins?) are pretty upset about our arrival out of nowhere.

Up on the ship, Hector's still being thrown about like a ragdoll.

He ended up being dropped briefly next to the illithid leader, with whom he exchanged a lingering glance.

After which he got absolutely capped in the head by a flying piece of rubble and forcibly ejected from the ship. I sadly wasn't able to get a shot of the moment of impact but just take my word for it when I say it was hilarious.

A long, long fall - and he's pretty sure he's in no way going to survive it, and the fear that has been lurking turns to terror and he screams out a plea to Selune for mercy as he crashes towards the waiting shoreline below...

And something saves him.

The magic force catches him, holds him a few inches off the ground, then slowly lowers him until he can fall in a battered, bloody heap on the sand. For a moment he struggles to stand, but it has all, finally, been too much, and his eyes roll back in his head and he collapses, unconscious and exhausted.

Alchemy Bros HeadCannons Part 2!

I'm having too much fun with this so... Yeah! Have more headcannons!

Ulla is super protective of her kiddos and if you lay a finger on them, she will kick your butt. That being said, she hates Nigel bad mouthing Varian. She also takes extra good care of her kids and makes sure they all know how much she loves them.

My headcannon voice actor for Jacky is Shawn Mendes. I haven't come up with one for Belle yet.

Adira and Hector eventually come to stay with Quirin and his family.

At this point, the household is starting to look like a medieval sitcom. Four teens, an ex-knight and his alchemist wife, a crazy butt-kicking Aunt and Uncle, three dogs, a raccoon, a mouse, a donkey, two bearcats, and a RHINO. (CHALLENGE: What would the sitcom's name be? Comment below!)

Jacky, Hugo, and Belle had never had any really good home cooked food before, so when they tried Quirin and Ulla's they were hooked! Those parents can bake a pie!

Hugo was really intimidated by Quirin when they first met. Like, absolutely terrified! He was sure that he was going to hate him, but to his surprise, Quirin liked him just fine! Why? He reminded him of Hector. On that note...

Hugo LOVES his uncle Hector! And vice versa! The minute they met, Hugo was in awe! He especially admires his fashion sense. That guy can dress to impress!

At first Hector wasn't sure about Hugo, but after seeing what they have in common, he was like "This boy is mine now!" Now they do all sorts of stuff together!

Hector and Hugo once decided to have Uncle and Nephew day and it involved a bar fight, riding Hector's rhino into an establishment, and possibly an act of breaking and entering AND vandalism. Let's just say neither of them escaped a lecture from Quirin.

Adira and Hector taught Varian sword fighting! Soon Jacky and Hugo wanted to try! Belle of course already knows how. So she just watched and yelled out what they were doing wrong and how to do the moves correctly.

When it came the time for Hugo to learn how to work on the farm, things got hairy. He eventually got the hang of it. But not before he got chased clear across Old Corona by a VERY ANGRY chicken! Of course, it was his fault for trash talking it! At least that's what Varian says.

All the dads all hang out at The Cuddly Ducking and talk about dad stuff. Edmund, Lance, Quirin, Cap, and Eugene. Since by now, Rapunzel and Eugene have had their twins and he can officially be a part of the dad club.

Nuru and Yong visit Old Corona all the time to hang out with the siblings!

So do Varian's cousins, Aunt, and Uncle from the Earth Kingdom.

Ulla was horrified about what her boys went through while she was gone. Any good mother would be. She actually cried when she saw the scar over Hugo's eye and heard how he got it. It took her awhile to heal and she partially blamed herself for leaving in the first place. But Hugo and Varian made sure to show her that they were okay now. And that they didn't hold anything against her either.

A more light hearted headcannon! The whole family takes a trip to the Dark Kingdom every year to reconnect with Quirin and the Brotherhood's relatives!

[Current Ask game]

4. In your opinion and without looking at any numbers, what’s your most popular fic?

That's not even a question, ha ha. It's "Sunk Too Deep." This is a Total Drama Island story about the end of the paintball deer hunt episode where Cody is sent home after being mauled by a bear. He's heavily bandaged and in a wheelchair. You see him roll off the edge of the dock and fall in the water, and the episode just fades to black as he and his wheelchair sink.

We know he doesn't drown, but it's never explained how he got out of that situation, and there's also a weird continuity error with him being able to speak in the confessional but not during the elimination ceremony, which I solved by having Heather deliberately gag him in this 'fic so he can't turn the others against her.

One of my favorite parts of this story is that in Season 3, Cody accuses Heather of only talking to him "six times ever" so in all the pre-Season 3 fanfics I wrote, I always had to make sure not to break that canon. When I wrote this story, I was cackling because in my mind I was like, "This only counts as one."

Back when I was writing for Total Drama, I only posted my 'fics on dA because I didn't have an FFN account yet. "Sunk Too Deep" did really well on dA and I later posted it to FFN, where it's also done well over the years. There are so many touching reviews on it, from people who say it's beautiful to people who say it's a total roller coaster to some who say it broke their heart and they cried to people who say they've read it a hundred times :')

"Sunk Too Deep" was something I threw together on a long car drive and I didn't put a lot of thought into it, and I didn't intend it to be emotional, so it's always wild to me that this piece I consider a random one-off side drabble has consistently wrecked emotions and received high praise from readers, ha ha.

To this day I still don't understand what about this story is resonating with people because I personally consider the emotions either heavy-handed or a swing and a miss, but lots of people seem to love it and that makes me happy. I'm glad that younger me chose to post it even though I thought it was just a scrappy little thing.

Maybe I'll put it on AO3 so people can find it there too.

6. Is there any fic that makes you super embarrassed to reread and remember you wrote that?

"River Teeth." I don't think I've read it since I put it up 5 years ago, but I've never been a huge fan of it. I remember the idea here is that Ernesto has a pet dog whom he adores and the point of this story was to show how Ernesto treats his dog vs. Hector.

I was invited to join a little "angst off" collection where you were limited to 4k words or under. Coco was a nice movie, but I didn't have true passion for creating content for it, and limiting to 4k was very difficult for me, especially for my first 'fic with these characters when I'd never done any type of analysis for them before. I cut several scenes that I thought were fun and I turned it in to meet the 4k word requirements, but never felt good about doing that instead of telling the story I actually wanted to tell with more wordcount.

I personally don't consider it a good reflection of my writing abilities, passions, or style and honestly I've wanted to orphan / delete it dozens of times over the years; I just don't because I've never outright deleted a 'fic before and I'm not sure how I'll feel about doing so. I don't write Coco content other than this, so I don't love seeing it on my profile. Someday I might orphan it on AO3 and wipe it from FFN, but for now it stays /shrug

I do keep this in mind while writing other 'fics, though. First of all I'll be very cautious if I'm ever invited to join another collection with a word cap, and second of all when I write chapters that end up being 27k words on accident, I give them a very careful look to see if there ARE any reasonable places to break the chapter, but if there aren't then I keep it the way it is and I don't force myself to break it in a way I don't want it broken.

I'll publish at the length I'm happy with and everyone else can take breaks if they feel the need to, and I'm happier than I would be if I always forced myself to stick to my typical 12k word cap.

I have WAAAAAAAYY too many 😭😭😭. Here are some of them: Hector has ADHD,Cass is near sighted and also has ADHD but she’s medicated (idk if they had that but let’s just say they do),varian and Edmund are both autistic,Stan and Cass are cousins (the cap being Stan’s uncle),Quirin is the oldest of the brotherhood,Edmund is the second oldest after him is Adira and Hector is the youngest. Hector is a Capricorn and is born on Christmas eve (is there a specific reason y I headcanon that? No) Hector and Eugene’s mom are half siblings,Cap had a wife when he adopted Cass but they got divorced,and then Cass’s “mom” died when Cass was 16. Willow has ADHD,and her and the Cap used to be a thing. I also headcanon that the Cap’s name is Caleb. Adira and Eugene’s mom used to date,earlier in high school. Hector stole his rhino from a circus that was passing through the DK,and he found the bear cats in the woods. Cass found Owl as a bb chick that fell out of his nest and was hurt and this happened not too long after her mom died so Owl just became her emotional support animal as well as her fighting bird. Andrew is dyslexic,oh and Quirin is color blind.

Idk ig Cass but I don’t like how they wrote it in the series. But my second would have to be Varian cuz ngl that would also make sense. But yet again I’m also interested with the moon!Eugene au.

Looking at your WIPs, there’s SO many I’m intrigued by, but the ones that really peaked my interest the most were: The Hostage Situation, the Unknowing Indentured Servant and Cass dies at the Great Tree! I’d love to know more about those!

Oooh, these are all among my oldest WIPs, but definitely ones I hope to one day complete!

First: The Hostage Situation

This is one takes place in The Great Tree, Adira doesn't show up to rescue Cassandra from Hector but the man decides he can save some bloodshed by taking Cassandra hostage and forcing the rest of the party to turn back.

A snippet:

Cassandra struggled against the rope tying her to one of the many trees which had grown within The Great Tree, the binturongs circled her and growled but she didn’t cease her frantic movements. “Let me go!” Hector ignored her shouts as he tended to his garden. “Once your friends are far enough away, I’ll consider.” “You have no right!” “I have every right,” Hector snapped back. “I have a duty to my kingdom and to the entire world, a duty to the moonstone. I warned your group more than enough times, yet you kept going. Be thankful I chose this route. I could have just as easily cut you all down where you stood and eliminated the problem at its route.” Cassandra glared. For a moment the only noise was the binturongs’ growls. “Why am I explaining myself?” Hector turned back to the garden. “It’s not like you’d understand the weight of duty.” And the tiredness in his voice got Cassandra’s expression to soften as she realised she did understand that weight. She thought back to her final conversation with the king prior to starting this journey. It had been in the throne room, while the other packed, Cassandra had been practically shaking as the last time she’d been summoned to the throne room it had only been the king nad her father and she’d been banished to a convent. She expected to be scolded for disobeying a direct order, but instead the king just looked tired. “Cassandra, you are my daughter’s lady-in-waiting and, more importantly you are someone she trusts.” Cassandra nodded. “I must ask you to protect her on this journey. It’s her first time beyond the walls of Corona and I fear she may not be prepared.” Cassandra felt like such a favour should come after an apology for her near banishment, but he was a king and she but a commoner, so she bowed and promised she’d do all in her power to protect Rapunzel. If only Rapunzel had allowed Cassandra to carry out this promise. “I understand,” Cassandra told Hector, to her own surprise. “I ever understand what it’s like for your own to not help with that duty…” she added.

Second: The Unknowing Indentured Servant

This is one where Frederic takes out some of his rage against Gothel on a very young Cassandra, declaring it her responsibility to make up for her mother's crimes.

Captain is the one told this but Cassandra doesn't find out until season 2 where she is prohibited to go with Rapunzel as she has a debt to the palace and cannot leave Corona without repaying it first.

A snippet:

Arianna is in their room, too distraught to be of much use. Frederic is pacing in the throne room, his eyes turn when an old friend returns with a child in his arms, but it isn’t Frederic’s child. “What happened?” Cap swallowed as he walks in. “She got away, Your Majesty. Every available unit is searching. We chased her to what we assumed was her home, but she left after cutting a rope bridge slowing our chase.” “Why do you have a child?” Frederic asked. Cap looked down at the precious bundle he’d been holding to his chest for the entire walk back. The girl had called for her mother and cried for many hours, but now she’d fallen asleep, too tired for anything else. “She was in this woman’s home… I believe she’s her daughter. She was abandoned.” Frederic’s eyes narrowed at the child. “She’s the daughter of the women who kidnapped my Rapunzel?” Cap frowned at the harsh words, holding the child closer to his chest in a protective manner. “She was abandoned. She was already alone at the cottage.” “Will the woman return for her?” Cap hesitated. “Perhaps. I will keep her close to me at all times to assure if the woman does return I am there to capture her.” Frederic nodded. “Good. And meanwhile, put the girl to work.” “To work?” “Until my daughter is returned to me, that girl is all there is of the criminal who took her.” Cap should have spoken up in that moment, but he was scared for this child and scared to stand up to a king. “She owes this kingdom and this palace everything.” Cap nodded. “I’ll… I’ll see to it she pays for her mother’s crimes.” “Good.”

Cassandra was so eager to help, she’d mop, sweep, clean windows, anything to gain the approval of her new father. Cap should have told her how it wasn’t normal for children to be ‘earning their stay’, how the girl’s servitude was not normal, but he never could bring himself to do such a thing. The girl smiled up at him and he smiled back. What she didn’t know couldn’t hurt her after all.

Finally, Cass Dies At The Great Tree

I'd say this one's title is self-explanatory but it actually is wrong!

Originally it was Cass Dies At The Great Tree, but after writing some it became Cass Dies AFTER The Great Tree due to what happened in it xD

Either way, here's a snippet:

Cassandra rested on Fidella’s back. Her breathing was shallow, and she lacked all of her usual stability. She was so shaky that Lance and Eugene were standing on either side of Fidella, ready to catch the woman if she fell. Her right arm was completely limp at this point, the blackness which had started with her hand had spread upwards, now reaching past her elbow and towards her shoulder. It wouldn’t be long until it reached a more crucial part of her body. Rapunzel was walking way up ahead, her eyes on the horizon, she hurried as much as she could hoping the next town would come into view already so they could locate a doctor’s office and get Cassandra the help she needed. Rapunzel didn’t know what she’d do if things got worse.

Cassandra lay in the bed with the white sheets, her arm resting atop the sheets. Her arm didn’t even look like an arm at this point and the fact her breathing was so painful told her the blackness had reached her lungs. The past few days were a blur of pain and tears. Rapunzel was inconsolable, not even Eugene could calm her down. Right now Rapunzel was asleep in the chair to the left and Eugene was sitting to Cassandra’s right. He’d been annoyingly quiet these past few days, no bad jokes or stupid comments. Cassandra hated it, but she also understood. “Eugene,” she whispered. His eyes moved to meet hers. “Yes?” “If I don’t—” “Don’t.” Eugene’s eyes went wide, and he shook his head. Cassandra smiled. “Scared?” Eugene didn’t know what to respond. “Just… In case,” she whispered. “If I don’t make it, tell my father I love him, alright?” Eugene nodded.

Although I picked two snippets from before... Well, the title says it. It's mostly a fic about mourning. About the party having to complete the mission without her and such.

Mainly focusing on Rapunzel and Eugene's mental state.

I've been working on it for a long time but it's just so sad it moves forward at a snail's pace!

Thanks for asking! There's something very fun about reading through old WIPs and picking out snippets to share!

And these three were one's I hadn't touched in a while so it was extra fun and now I really want to sit down and do some writing!

Pokémon in: Omori

Chapter 1

Whitespace. Omori had been living here as long as he could remember. He was a 12 year old, monochrome boy. He wore black and white shorts, knee high black socks, a black tank top, and a black knit cap. He looked around the white void. There was a black outlined square, a laptop, a tissue box, a sketchbook, a Purloin, a black light bulb, and a door. Omori stared at his laptop. Then looked at the light bulb. He stared at the door. He approached the Purloin, named Mewo, who simply said "Waiting for something to happen?"

Then he heard something fall. He ventured through Whitespace while Red Hands, known as Hands~kun, tried to bring him back to the square. Omori found a shiny knife. Then, he allowed Hands~kun to take him back. He opened the door, and entered Neighbor's Room. Upon entering, he saw his friends, his friends Pokémon, and his Pokémon. Omori's Pokémon, a Ralts, Mawile, and Musharna, ran up to the monochrome boy. His friend Aubrey, a young girl in a nightie and a purple casual cap, ran over the cards they were playing with her Azurill, named Bun Bun, close behind.

"Omori! You're here! We were playing cards, wanna join us?" She asked. Then she turned around and noticed she messed up the cards.

"Oh, maybe not…" She said

"What the heck, Aubrey?!" Kel yelled. Kel wore Pajamas and a cap, mostly purple, though the front was white with some pins.

"Now now, no need to fight." Hero said. Hero wore striped Pajamas and a hat that gave the appearance of Blue hair, though his natural purple could be seen on the bottom.

Omori went over to Kel.

"Check it out! I caught a Nacli!" Kel yelled, and showed off a Pokéball. Kel's Spinda was dancing and gesturing to it.

"I'm gonna name him Hector!" Kel yelled.

Omori went over to Hero.

"Hey there, it seems your Pokémon missed you." Hero said. Ralts was hiding behind Omori, Mawile was trying to get Omori's attention, and Musharna was just floating. Hero's Dolliv laughed a bit. Omori went to Aubrey.

"That Kel is so annoying! He stole Mr. Plantegg! Can you find him for me?" She asked. Omori grabbed a watermelon, broke it, and inside was Mr. Plantegg. Omori gave it back to Aubrey.

"You found him! Thank you Omori!" She said.

"What!? I thought I had a good hiding place!" Kel yelled.

"Well some people aren't jerks…" Aubrey said. Azurill and Spinda tried to separate there trainers. Hero stepped in.

"Guys, let's not fight. Mari and Basil are waiting for us." He said. Omori began to lead the group out, as an Ekans gave him an allowance.

Outside, the kids left from a stump. Aubrey got stuck, so Kel pulled her out. They went to the playground, where they saw many kids and Pokémon, including Mari and Basil. Mari wore a school uniform and a purple hat tied in the back, and Basil wore a green shirt, overalls, a flower crown and a white sun hat. They were sitting on a picnic blanket, all there Pokémon out of their Pokéballs. Mewo the Purloin was on Mari's lap. Her Pawmi was playing with the picnic basket. Mari's Vaporeon was curled up, asleep. Her Illumise was flying around, dancing as her Krikitot made music. Mari's Flittle was hoarding berries. As for Basil's Pokémon, his Roselia was making a flower crown. Basil's Flabèbè was hiding in his hair. Basil's Cherubi was happily wandering. Omori and the gang approached.

"Oh hey! You're just in time!" Mari said as the group went to the picnic basket. Everyone let out all their Pokémon. Hero's Volbeat danced with Illumise. His Milcery just happily played with his Sinistea. Audino tried to calm everyone down, to no avail. The Tandemaus snuggled each other. Kel was holding his new Nacli and showing it off. His Snom was riding on his shoulders while Spinda just started knocking things over. Aubrey's Minccino wasn't happy about this, and Audino had to stop Minccino from attacking Spinda. Aubrey's Nidoran ♀️ ️ ran around. Omori's Ralts shyly approached Mari, while Mawile tried to steal berries from Basil.

"So what were you guys up too?" Hero asked.

"We were just looking at my photo album!" Basil said. He took it out. There were lots of photos. From Kel drinking milk, everyone making flower crowns, Hero and Mari winning a double battle, and Omori asleep and more. Kel tries to get Basil to take a picture of him, but Basil explained he prefers candid photos. Basil offered to have them go to his house, while he returned all put Roselia to there Pokéballs. As the others did the same, Mari said she would sit this one out. Before they could leave, though, the group was stopped by Berly and her Druddigon.

"Hey, you're not leaving! I wanna play hide and seek!" She said.

"Again? Really?" Kel asked. A glare from Druddigon shut him up. Berly rounded everyone up. Omori was forced to be the seeker. He hated being alone, but at least he had his Pokémon. He found everyone except Basil when Berly rounded everyone up again.

Kel went to a tree he saw Basil go near earlier. The tree went away, revealing Boss holding Basil.

"How could you guys play hide and seek without me?!" He yelled.

"Boss! Put Basil down!" Kel yelled.

Boss simply threw Basil's flower crown and hat away.

"My headgear!" Basil yelled.

"Stop bullying Basil! What did he do to you?!" Aubrey yelled.

"You think this is about Basil? This about you leaving me out even though I taught you all how to play! You're not even doing it right! How can you play hide and seek without Pokémon battles?!" Boss yelled. He sent out a Granbull and attacked Omori, Aubrey, Kel, and Hero.

Omori sent out Ralts!

Aubrey sent out Bun Bun!

Kel sent out Spinda!

Hero sent out Dolliv!

Boss body slammed Kel. Kel hit him with a ball. Meanwhile, Granbull used Bite! It was Super effective on Ralts. Bun Bun used Water Gun. Omori attacked Boss with his knife. Aubrey cheered on Omori, making him happy? Dolliv used Absorb. Spinda used tackle. Ralts used Psychic. Granbull fainted. The Pokémon joined in attacking Boss. Eventually, Boss used his ultimate attack, fainting all the Pokémon and turning everyone but Omori into toast. Omori did not succumb. Boss got upset. He dropped Basil. Basil comforted him, as Boss tried to keep him safe during the fight. He took down the sign banning him, and Omori led his friends to Basil's house. After fighting Sprout Moles and learning about emotions, they reached Basil's house. But Aubrey and Kel had a fight, knocking over Basil and scattering his photos. They gathered the photos and put them back. When Basil went to get something, he dropped a photo. He looked at it. His eyes turned red.

"I didn't take this. Wait thats right! Mari, she's-"

Everything went black.

Omori awoke on Whitespace. A heartbeat could be heard. He took out his knife.

STAB

Omori collapsed.

WELL! finished my first run of steam edition yggdra union the other day, so as promised, heres the final roster as of the bf48 setup screen:

no surprises for anyone here i think. yggdra’s stats maxed out at level 17 in this playthrough as is inevitable for the best allied unit in the game. she would’ve maxed even earlier if the game didnt remove mvp bonuses when she rejoins the party at the beginning of chapter 5 but that never matters in the end, So Like

FUNNY STORY: i decided to work on item manual completion this run which actually requires you to actively use milanor a lot during the early game, which led to a lot of hashtag milanor-typical mvp theft... but the rng distribution this time was unbelievably funny and gave him like all atk and luck, never MIND that if theres ever any stat milanor ACTUALLY needs its tec to make sure steal always works. so despite being capable of decent dps/tank work he STILL wound up useless, just in a highly atypical fashion compared to the usual on my save files where hes stuck in mostly 4s and 5s lmfao

nietzsche ate one (1) zero reset right before level up while i was shaking off the rust of not having played for, like, 8 years or something, but also look at that hottt gen score. tank mermaid. will probably try this again for future saves where i dont have to leave my doping items to rot for item manual completion and when i dont need to raise durant for item fetching purposes

old reliable... roswell always winds up as such a solid damage dealer whenever im able to give him proper attention. if you prefer aggro tactics why ARENT you going with roswell as often as possible. he and yggdra took point most of the time on this file, with a little help from...

elena, who was absolutely the goat here; relatedly, sorry about everything, elena. a fun thing to do if you like to use elena is to make sure you get the rainbow arc from her in bf17 with steal and then actually equip it on her in chapter 8 and let her clean house/rake in the mvp. Im Sorry Elena. yggdra and milanor have to pay for her therapy sessions now i think

guess who ALSO got an inopportune zero reset while i was still shaking off the rust... mistels stats always suffer when youre letting your doping items go bad for collection purposes but it doesnt help that one of the best of those is locked to 2nd playthrough onwards, so whatcha gonna do

i played on hard mode because it was there and other difficulty levels are honestly way too easy for me, but since pamela & golden dozeu are locked your first play on steam regardless of difficulty i took these caps on bf48 because i assumed ending d would be 2nd playthrough onwards exclusive too.

IMAGINE MY DELIGHT WHEN I WENT FOR ENDING C AND GOT A NORMAL RESULTS SCREEN... means i am forced to play normal mode AFTER all to get ending c, but i will never turn down a surprise trip across heavens gate because i love to go hit hector with sticks. “youre not actually hitting him with sticks” ive sent yggdra to go do it and i Will join nessiah in yelling YAAAAAAAAAAS QUEEEEEEEEEEN SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY from the back row of the bleachers while she does that.

anyway.

over 80% item manual completion in one run is not bad for the first run after an 8 year blank. dabs. its good to be back. sting please put gloria union and blaze union on steam too
