"Remember we have the potential to make life better for others. In our own small way, we can inspire, mentor, and encourage other women to do great things. So, don’t hold back. Don’t be silent. Don’t give in to fear.  Be bold. Be adventurous. Be yourself. There will always be people who want to tell you what you can do and what you can’t. What is possible and what is not. I know because I have encountered those people throughout my life. Some of them were well meaning. But all of them wanted to limit my potential. Your potential is limitless. Your life — the life you want — is worth fighting for.  So, fight."

Nikki Haley is a prominent American politician and diplomat who served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 2017 to 2018 and as the 116th Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017. Here are five relatively lesser-known or rare facts about Nikki Haley:
First Female Governor of South Carolina: Nikki Haley made history in 2010 by becoming the first female governor of South Carolina. Her election marked a significant milestone in the state's political landscape, breaking gender barriers.
Her Sikh Heritage: Nikki Haley was born Nimrata Randhawa to Sikh parents who had emigrated from Amritsar, India. She later adopted the name Nikki, a commonly used nickname for people named Nimrata. She is the first woman of Indian-American descent to hold a governorship in the United States.
Author of Autobiography: In 2012, Nikki Haley released her autobiography titled "Can't Is Not an Option: My American Story." The book provides insights into her life, her journey into politics, and her experiences as the governor of South Carolina.
Role in Removing Confederate Flag: Following the racially motivated Charleston church shooting in June 2015, Nikki Haley played a pivotal role in advocating for the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina State House. Her leadership during this period earned her widespread recognition.
Resignation as UN Ambassador: Nikki Haley resigned from her position as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in October 2018. Her departure from the Trump administration was amicable, and she cited a desire to take a break from public service. Despite stepping down from her official role, she has remained active in political discussions and public affairs.

One of the greatest stories of resilience I’ve ever heard is my friend, Commissioner Charlie Caswell’s story. He didn’t get his GED until he was 30 after experiencing extreme trauma throughout his childhood, but today he is changing the way the world deals with ACE’s

Can you imagine being the first female president of a major university? This #throwbackthursday is dedicated to Dr. Shirley Raines whom I had the privilege of interviewing. She is sweet-spirited yet powerful, and I love her book, Uncommon Journey. Being from a small town myself and having big dreams, I related to her journey in so many ways and aspire to be like her in many ways as a leader too!

Your favorite #Whovian #Trekkie #Blerd is truly sad today. She was my #namesake and truly my #scifi #idol. Only my husband truly understands how elated I was when I got to meet her. I believe my heart leapt out of my body and into her hand when she touched me. And when she asked me my name, and I said (with a voice that had suddenly gone 12 octaves higher), "Nichelle, like you!", the way her eyes lit up and the huge smile she gave me, I literally could have died right then and there, and would have been the happiest blerd #fangirl ghost in the world. I'm probably going to pull out my #Uhura costume, and where it the rest of the day, and cry into my popcorn during my multi-day Star Trek marathon. Michael Jackson and Robin Williams are the only other celebrity deaths that have hit me this hard. Share with me your fav #StarTrek episodes, so we can celebrate together. Rest and travel well, #NichelleNichols. In another time, a kinder time, Elle doesn’t have to go through hell and back to save the world in a never ending Thursday. She is a little younger and a little lonelier when that fated confrontation happens on the peak of Mt Coronet. She is far away.
Her parents don’t disown her. But they visit more, after that. It’s enough to make her realize she doesn’t want them to, but she can’t stop them.
She talks with her therapist about it, and finally decides to do something a little stupid. She goes where they can’t follow— a liberal arts college campus, the kind of place that asks your pronouns and doesn’t notice that one of their commuting students isn’t registered to show up.
She stays in the Pokémon center, mostly, and goes to college every day. It starts out as just something to pass the time while her parents are visiting and she’s dodging their calls, but then it turns into a genuine fascination. There’s so much she has yet to learn!
It’s okay if people think she’s ditzy and weird. It’s okay if she pretends to have the directional sense of the Galarian champion to excuse the fact that she doesn’t belong here. The food isn’t great, but it’s free. With a backpack and a lanyard, she looks just like any other student.
And then she accidentally makes a friend. And learns that the sinnoh champion is really cool and a good teacher. She didn’t mean to get attached to any other students, but, well…. Maeral offered to help her study. And fi has a really fucking cute noibat.
At this rate, she’s not pretending anymore. She really is enjoying higher education. A lot. She doesn’t understand most of it, but there’s no pressure to perform, is there?
And then she sort of…accidentally moves in with Maeral. In the dorm. A sleepover turns into a permanent new living situation and she’s happy for once. She can’t keep lying but she’s happy, and Celia is really nice too.
So. She stops lying. And they, by some miracle, let her stay.
