#I don't like Kamala with Bruno either

It's amazing how time changes your perspective on things.
Bruno is offered an incredible opportunity that will shape his future, but he's reluctant. Going to CalTech will mean leaving Jersey behind and leaving Kamala behind. This is part of the quasi love-triangle that the show is teasing in its second episode, between Bruno-Kamala-Kamran.
When I was Bruno's age, I'd be sitting there like, "Don't do it, Bruno! Stay with Kamala! You're meant to be together."
But now I'm a grown-ass man. I've lived a life, and I have the perspective and wisdom of decades. And. Well.
The thing of it is, Bruno/Kamala isn't even a thing. They're just friends. They've seemingly never broached the subject of anything more. Bruno's jealous of Kamran due to Kamala's attraction to him, but there's no indication that Bruno's ever actually sat down with Kamala and been like, "Hey, are we a thing? CAN we be a thing?"
And if he's never taken that step, then he doesn't have a leg to stand on when Kamala starts making googly eyes at the handsome new guy in town.
Like. He doesn't seem malicious about it. I'm not accusing Bruno of being a "Nice Guy" who's only pretending to be Kamala's friend or anything. But it does feel like Bruno's made some assumptions about the nature of his and Kamala's relationship, and the arrival of Kamran is forcing him to have to confront that reality.
To be honest, I'm not even sure if Bruno wants romantic Bruno/Kamala to be a thing... Or if he's just afraid of change. Bruno is so close with Kamala that he's practically family. He helps out her parents even when she isn't around and he gets invited to religious/family events. He even conspires with her to undermine their authority.
And so it leads one to wonder. Is Bruno's jealousy even rooted in an actual desire to have a romantic relationship with Kamala? He's literally about to graduate high school, and yet he doesn't seem to have ever even made a pass at her. Or has he just grown comfortable in the status quo of two best friends monopolizing each other's time; A status quo threatened by Kamala's new romantic hopeful?
Does Bruno even want to be Kamala's boyfriend? Or does he just want to be two best friends kicking back, talking about Avengers, and making cool sci-fi cosplays forever? Because a lot of people his age don't realize that the latter is actually an option - Even if it does mean sharing your time with your friend's S.O.
But regardless of what the answer to that question is, it ultimately doesn't matter. He should still go to Caltech either way. I don't want to say something pithy like "People come and go but your future is what matters!" or something. I mean, like. This is the age where most people start to lose contact with their childhood friends. But some people do stick it out. If Kamala and Bruno's friendship is so strong, I think they'll be okay.
And especially in the digital age, it's easier than ever to stay connected with people. But a chance like this? His counselor was right; If he turns this down, he might never see an opportunity like this again. There is a certain age at which you no longer have the opportunity to grow into the person you will become; You already became, and now you have to live with the consequences of who that person is.
So as hard as it is for him (and for fans who relate to him) to face, the best thing he can do is go to Caltech. Something even Bruno ultimately realizes by the end of the show.

Anyway, I've had enough of the think pieces on why Ms Marvel isn't as popular as other tv shows. I'm not a big TV show person.
Tumblr media
Here are 5 reasons why smaller fandoms are cooler:
1) More connected fanbase. We all know each other and can understand the general vibe of what's going on in this fandom. That also goes for parts of fandom you inevitable don't like either.
2) Less discourse. Seriously. I've barely needed brain bleach when discussing Ms Marvel. Of course discourse and fandom wank are present in all shows, but its WAY LESS when you have less people.
3) More incentive to speak out. This might just be me but I find in larger fandoms I tend to roll with the flow because I feel my opinions will get lost. However with smaller fandoms I definitely enjoy posting my own thoughts more and engaging with everyone.
4) Less ship wars. We all love Kamala and want her to be happy. Whether that's with Bruno, Kamran, Kareem, Nakia or Zoe! We also love her being single focused on being a superhero right now!
5) There is no fear of missing out with smaller fandoms! There's no deadline for enjoyment! You can take your time and come back with more content! Fandom never truly dies, yes, but a lot of popular media doesn't sustain the same energy after the show ends. But smaller fandoms don't get that large of a drop.

Ms. Marvel s01e05 - “Time and Again”
SPOILERS!
.
.
.
Okay, few points
1. Though I cannot speak for people from cultures clearly not my own, I did feel a deep sense of anger when the British soldier told the locals to “go home”. Like, excuse me sir, you’re the foreigner.
Moving on.
2. One other thing I liked is that across these five episodes now, Kamala has been receiving bits and pieces of clothing that would soon become her (or inspiration for her) eventual outfit. She received her mask from Bruno, her vest from Waleed, and now the scarf from Kareem. Not to mention the bangle she sorta kinda inherited from her great-grandmother, so there’s that one too.
3. CAN WE TALK ABOUT KAMRAN. No, hang on, can we talk about his mom first. Najma calls out her son’s name right before she turned to ash as she tried to close the Veil, right? Then there’s this little seconds-long sequence where you see strands of the Noor (Light) snake it’s way to Kamran, knocking him to the ground. The captions state “Energy pulsating”. Kamran’s eyes glow the same way Najma’s and Kamala’s eyes glow, except with him, it’s blue. We then see him look at his hand, and it’s the exact same kind of hard light that forms around his fist (same as Kamala’s), only it’s blue instead of purple. And this is kind of inherent to him the same way it was inherent to Najma, the same way it’s inherent to Aisha and therefore Kamala as well. Remember a few episodes ago Bruno said to Kamala, “It looks like your power is coming from within you. The bangle unlocked the superhuman part of you.” It was the same with Kamran. He has the EXACT SAME POWER SET as Kamala does now. Kamala has her power set because she’s a human hybrid (Aisha was clearly not of this world), and Kamran has his power set because like Aisha, Najma is clearly not of this world either. But while Kamala needed the bangle to unlock her inherent powers that she inherited, Kamran received these powers almost by accident, but his body is receptive to the powers because he too, is not of this world, courtesy of his mother Najma. So essentially, both Kamran and Kamala have powers that originate from the Noor Dimension, because they have the same (or similar) origin story. Their ancestors came from the same place, the Noor Dimension. This actually fits in so well with their similar comics origins because there, they were both exposed to the Terrigen mists and so in the comics they are Inhuman, but here, in the MCU, Kamran and Kamala are pseudo-Noorians, if such a word exists. They have a foot in both worlds. They are simultaneously of the Noor Dimension and of Earth.
3. Okay, about Kareem. At the very end, when Kamala bids goodbye to Kareem, yeah? This little conversation:
Kamala: You know, I'm pretty sure a Pakistani goodbye is the opposite of an Irish one. Overstay your welcome and then ask if you could take home food.
Kareem: I have to go tell the others what happened. I figured you could use some time with your family.
Kamala: Are you gonna be okay?
Kareem: Yeah. Yeah, I'll be fine. He'd be really proud of you.
Kamala: Thank you, by the way. For everything.
Kareem: You know, if you ever need anything, I'm just a call away. Although the U.S. government may or may not have several warrants out for my arrest, so…
Kamala: Wow. Well, I don't know how much more trouble I can get into after all this.
Kareem: Just in case. [The narration states, “He removes the red scarf from around his neck and drapes it over Kamala’s shoulder.”] For you. [The narration continues, “He walks away. Kamala eyes the fabric, then pulls it off her shoulder and holds it in both hands as she leans on the balcony railing, wearing a contemplative expression.”]
Why would the US government (well, the DODC but like) have arrest warrants out for Kareem, if what he says is true? He’s not the one with powers, and yet, YET when he first meets Kamala face to face in the station, he tells her point blank, “I sensed the Noor.” Does Kareem also have some sort of hidden ability? Would this, then, be why he suspects the DODC may target him? Also, if Kareem had sensed the light from within Kamala, it would mean that he’s sensed it a week earlier when Kamala first saw that vision during that AvengerCon. To be able to sense it, he must’ve been somewhere in the US as well, and maybe tracked her down all the way to Karachi. 🤔

Ms.Marvel S1E3
I've been so obsessed with the Kenobi series today/lately that for the first time in ages I actually needed the 'previously on' feature. I'm not sure it's wise for Disney to drop both SW and MCU content on the same day.
Enjoyed the first real look we got at the villains and possibly Kamala's origin: the bangle on a severed blue arm, in a ruined temple with the Ten Rings symbols, back in the 40s. Intriguing way to start. They're suitably terrifying later on too, and I'm glad they didn't keep up the friendly pretense too long either. No one was buying that.
Not so sure about the whole 'djinn' thing though. The scientific/comic book explanation about beings from another dimension is cool, but djinn? Hmmm.
The best part of this show is the family. I've already raved about the dad, and he was awesome again. We got a bit more from the brother too and he seems sweet. But the mom this time... That scene in the bathroom made me miss my own mom. She wasn't at all like Mrs.Khan, and I never had a convo like that with her, but ugh, moms.
The wedding was lovely to see. Brown Jovi, fantastic. The dance routine was absolutely joyful. It makes Kingo's Bollywood scene in Eternals look even worse now.
I know it's a superhero show and by definition unrealistic, but for a guy who has 700 dollars in the bank, that was a very fancy wedding!
Seeing Bruno once again at a family function, I have to wonder: is he really in love with Kamala or does he just want to be a part of this family 'for real'? I sort of hope it's the latter and they reassure him he already is, because I'm not holding out hope for a romance. Not sure it'd be the best for either one of them.
As for Kamran, at this point I'm only (vaguely) interested in him because I read an interview with his actor and Iman Vellani, and they compared the character to the Winter Soldier. Iman's a Marvel fan, so it made me curious, but so far I don't see it tbh.

I can’t take credit for unseasoned oatmeal boy as a name for Bruno as that was @novemberstarling but it’s a perfect description of him and if he’s endgame for Kamala over either Kamran or Kareem I will be mad
thank you @novemberstarling for your service, i will forever be indebted to you 🙏
no but i honestly don't see the appeal of kamala x oatmeal either? like, i don't think kamala likes him that way AT ALL, not even in a "she's been in love with him all along and doesn't even know it" way, imo she really just sees him as a good friend, her right hand man, her confidant etc etc. i haven't read the comics, so i don't know if this is because of how iman and matt portrayed the characters or if it's just supposed to be like this. and i do like kamran, but i just feel like kamala x kamran is missing some je ne sais quoi, you know? tldr; it's kamala x kareem or i riot. very unshippable names though. kameem? karala? kamo!?

It kind of annoys me that it´s hard to find apreciation for Kareem or Kamala/Kareem without someone mentioning Bruno.
Is either "i love bruno but Kareem..." or the opposite "Bruno is a bland boy , i prefer Kareem" (yes, that ALSO counts as making everything about him) as if Kalama´s other relationships can't exsit without him being brought up.
Like, if the post is not about Bruno then well...don't talk about Bruno (insert Encanto joke here) he is not Kamala´s boyfriend right now, there is no need of acting like he is.

Representation that Marvel did get right in the Ms Marvel show(we haven't seen the show so this is from the trailers, my knowledge of the comics, interviews and what I know about Sana Amanat's views and style) :-
1. Kamala Khan being a practicing Muslim that doesn't don a hijab: I feel Hollywood always takes this one way or the other. Either the Muslim character dons a hijab or doesn't and completely disrespects Islam. Ms Marvel is unique in the sense that Kams respects and practices her religion. She prays(shown in the trailer), she only eats Halaal food, she dresses modestly(a big part of the religion) and while her parents are protective, they don't seem to force anything on her and they have a healthy relationship (most times). Kamala also respects her religious leaders and seeks them out for advice. We see this in her scene with Sheikh Abdullah in the promo. Many Muslims don't don a hijab and I think it would be great for people who don't know much about the religion to see this side of it. Kamala also loves, respects and understands Muslims that are more devout than her such as her brother, sister in law and longtime friend Nakia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Ms Marvel's love interest is a Muslim: I'm a Kamran fan. His character is protrayed as being handsome, wealthy, charming, smart AND a South Asian Muslim. Their relationship is a lesson in what may seem perfect on paper doesn't translate well in reality. BUT I love that Kamala cared for him deeply and sincerely fell for the guy her parents would actually love and approve of. This never happens in fiction. I also like that it's Kamran choosing to follow a corrupt inhuman that pushes them apart. It wasn't something like him joining an Islamic terrorist organization. This is why I wish the inhumans were in the MCU. Sorry to Bruno but I'm giving Kamran a chance till the last minute lmao.
Tumblr media
3. Portrayal of South Asian culture in a Muslim family: I love that Kamala wears multiple desi outfits throughout the trailers and promos. We also see her dancing at Amir's wedding. Kamala is a huge Bollywood fan in the comics so I totally see her enjoying this. I'm also happy to see the partition of India being included. Something noteworthy for all South Asians. Again, Hollywood doesn't necessarily show what it means to be South Asian when they include Muslim characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm thrilled to finally have a character that shows how cool it can be to be Muslim and South Asian because while some stories are necessary... It isn't always necessary to show that being a part of a certain religion is a constant struggle as we see in Elite or the movie Hala. No matter how accurate it might be SOMETIMES. This show is what the world needs to see.

I’ll never understand why people want to ship Miles Morales with Spider-Gwen when Kamala Khan exists.

Can I ask why Muslim girls don't like Bruno from Ms Marvel? I'm not Muslim but I don't really like him either. I don't hate him, but something about him rubs me the wrong way and I've never been able to exactly put my finger on why
ya you pretty much described my feelings on bruno! like first of all, he’s white and i really don’t want kamala to end up with a white boy aslkdjalskdj. a lot of the other muslim girls i’ve seen on tumblr think he’s annoying, and i have to agree lol. i can’t remember any specific panels atm but there are some stuff he says that just makes me so annoyed with him like i don’t want that to be the guy that’s kamala’s endgame. and honestly, he’s not good enough for kamala, and i know a lot of other muslim girls feel the same way. compared to some of her other friends like nakia, kareem, and miles, he really pales in comparison to them in terms of chemistry and whatnot. like i really don’t want this iconic muslim character to be settling for the plainest and most boring guy around when she’s this super amazing girl that could definitely do better. also, his arc with wakanda was so weird like why would you have wakanda in a story but it’s only related to the white american’s arc like???
also someone compared him to the post-malone of kamala’s friend group and so that’s literally all i’m reminded of whenever i see him aksjd;asd
