#I still love grey's but now it's just for schmico and mer if she gets sth of substance

Note
I am watching greys since the beginning and there good seasons and bad seasons, but it really frightens me how lazy the writing has become. Fucked up timeline, absolute no back story for Nico and don‘t get me started on love triangles involving Owen...
Dude same. I started watching Grey's around season 5 and the difference to now is just really disappointing. You still have your occasional bomb-ass scenes, but it's sad that those have become so rare that you can count them on like one hand now.

ok so anon sent me a rant that i asked for and I want to answer it but under a cut so we don’t have to spam the dash.
Click under the read more if you want to read me and anon’s rant on grey’s anatomy s17 finale
anon said: “Magston... what the hell lmao. They literally had a whole plot in 1716 about postponing their wedding so they could do it right (with family) and then winston was getting all mad about it and thought maggie was backing out (even though its a pandemic and theyve only been engaged for like what? 3 months tops). Then they flew their older parent/grandparent out (in the middle of a pandemic and severely affects old people), only to have them object to the wedding at the ceremony and then they postpone anyways???? What???? They couldnt have done that over the phone lmao like I liked the idea of magston a lot in s16 but their arc this season made me hate them so much lol. Sometimes I think theyre less developed than schmico (like which writer decided to marry them this season ????? Fireable offence imo considering they have no previous relationship history Im pretty sure and Im pretty sure they were only dating/engaged for like a year???? Even if the show was ending a moving in together/dating/engagment endgame would have worked for them? Anyways).”
First of all: what the fuck is grey’s obsession with marriage?????
It might just be me, but take it from someone who worked in the wedding industry for 3 years, and lemme tell you: weddings are fun, beautiful, amazing, but they’re also hella for the privileged. YOU KNOW IT CAN COST UP TO $700 CAD TO HIRE AN OFFICIANT??? So the job Richard had? He could’ve made an easy few hundies.
I really hate how fucking fake and badly acted that scene was when Maggie’s dad and Winston’s grandma objected to the marriage. Why did they wait until then and EMBARRASS both of them???? Like you said, what the hell was the point of last episode’s whole debacle???? They could’ve just not done that plot in ep 16 and had them get married anyway in ep 17 and had someone object to their marriage.
Can’t believe Maggie flew two old people around the country during a goddamn pandemic. How irresponsible is it???? Again, I don’t know if it’s because they’re just way more relaxed in the states than where I’m from but wth....
anon said: Okay and then amelink. I LOVED how amelia was written this episode, but in the context of the time jump it was kind of weird? Like amelia was feeling this way about marriage/more kids for 8-9 months and never even hinted to link that she wasnt interested? And I like to think link respects amelia a lot, so why didnt he bring up marriage again before proposing? Or ask mer/maggie what they thought about him proposing? I can understand her not talking to link about her concerns but I find it hard to believe she didnt bring it up with mer/maggie once in that time frame? Idk it was just rushed and weird. And amelia clearly wasnt okay with the fostering thing and he still went with it anyways lol.
I can’t remember and I don’t care enough to go watch the ep, but did Amelia and Link move out of Mer’s house?
The only good thing about this episode was Amelia, especially her conversation with Richard (in that not very Seattle courtyard rofl HONESTLY GREY’S PUT SOME EFFORT IN YOUR SETS. YOU KNOW YOUR ENTIRE SHOW IS SET IN SEATTLE RIGHT/???? LIKE MAKE IT RAIN IN THAT COURTYARD TO REFLECT HOW AMELIA FEELS IDK GAWD)
I also can’t believe Amelia would just be like, welp! I guess I’m a double mom now of my own child and this random crotch child that my baby daddy promised to his best friend. And oh ya, I don’t want anymore children but shhh its a secert.
I mean, I know Amelia technically fostered before but ............. (i’ll continue this in the next segment)
anon said: And the fostering thing... Jo’s plot was weird this ep too lmao. Like maybe Im just dumb but they never explained why she failed her background check? Idk this plot would have been a much better season long arc than a one episode arc lol. Although I think the single parent thing might be fun next season (the weird jo/levi friendship will be worth it if we get schmico babysitting)
They didn’t really explain why she failed her bg check. I also don’t know how money can fix her failed background check.
Also how fucking shady is it that Link and Amelia fostered a child? Wouldn’t the foster people want to give a child to a stable family who, let’s think, ARE MARRIED and HAVE A HOME OF THEIR OWN?
Who’s the dumbass in the writer’s room that thought of this ludicrous convenient solution for Jo? Only people with that much money and power can steal children.
I really thought Jo’s fight for Luna should’ve started earlier and when it didn’t start, I thought it would bleed into next season. It’s not easy to adopt a child.
anon said: Also is our last jackson appearance on this show really a random facetime with jo? Would have much rather had a face maggie to congratulate her on her marriage (why wasnt he there???)
Maggie’s kind of his step sister or whatever the f they are. Jackson could’ve taken a break from solving racism to attend his family member’s wedding, right?
anon said: Okay and then the interns... we never actually saw mer teaching them? Im hoping that theres a bigger intern/resident focus next season because of mers new job but now Im not optimistic haha. And why are the residents and interns grouped together? And why was levi so involved with mer’s patient that he wasnt pulled from the wedding to help???????? Its a double lung transplant get the upper year resident in there PLEASE!!! Or at least let him take over the surgery when mer passed out. Cristina would have been doing this shit in her intern year. I assure you he would much rather be at the surgery than the wedding of someone he has never interacted with. And Surely that surgery would have been better if more than 2 surgeons were working on it?????? my ONLY hope is that the time jump means we’re getting helm and levi aged up to 5th years and we get some chief resident/specialization/boards plots for them next year.
i hate grey’s and their ridiculous time jumps and blatant disregard to HOW THIS WILL AFFECT THE CAREERS OF THEIR RESIDENTS.
I bet, like Teddy’s child, Levi and Helm are gonna be residents for 10 years and never choose a speciality. I want to revoke grey’s rights to call themselves a medical drama. There’s nothing medical about this show.
JUST WATCH MER TOUCH A DIRTY ASS BASIN AND THEN TOUCH A WHOLE HUMAN LUNG WITH THE SAME HANDS
YOU KNOW HOW DIRTY THAT BASIN IS SITTING ON WHATEVER THE FUCK IT WAS SITTING ON??? GET A NURSE TO HOLD THE BASIN. YOUR HANDS ARE STERILE
(Okay, I’m also sure the basin would be sterile but I can’t. I can’t believe in real life, they’d have the same hands hold a basin and a human organ. Someone who’s a doctor or works in the OR, tell me if I’m right. I need to know. )
Also, Bailey taking off her mask when she’s hugging Mer after the surgery. Right TO JAIL!
anon said: And finally... not half of maggies wedding guests ditching the wedding to go stand in a hallway and clap for mer LMAO like they couldnt have done that the next day??? Like I said before, most of this episode was comedy lol.
it’s COVID. Why are people going into the hospital unnecessarily??????
Yes, but you’re right. I gotta watch these eps like it’s a comedy or I’ll LOSE MY FACKING MIND
anon said: Redeeming parts of this episode: merhayes still has potential, need them to stop having the same scene over and over again though. Nico ily and alex get that cheque for sitting there, dancing, and clapping for ellen. Jo selling her shares to koracick... lmao. Bokhee and the other nurse getting their vaccines :’)
LOL @ merhayes having the same interaction. I was telling some people that I’d love for Hayes and Owen to have some scenes and for Hayes to kick Owen’s ass. Because like @schmico-ing said, Owen is a child collector and Hayes would absolutely fucking hate him.
YES ALEX LANDI GETTIN’ THAT DOUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. What an amazing job. I hope he gets paid in the 6 figures for his time at grey’s.
I don’t know how I feel about Koracick. I love caring Koracick. I hate asshole Koracick. I feel like they’re two different people.
BOHKEE <3
Anyways, love your rants. I look forward to them when s18 starts or even whenever you have the odd urge to rant!

18.04 grey's anatomy *spoilers* reactions/opinions:
idk why but Richard and Catherine make me a tiny bit uncomfy
schmico scene was cute! also Levi being a bit of a mess
Luna (the doll) scares me
The Webber-method also scares me. WHY AM I LIKE 5 MINS IN AND 2 THINGS HAVE ALREADY SCARED ME?
Megan & Hayes??? OH lordy
Owen finding a passion this season reminds me of Jack from Station 19. I'm absolutely here for it.
ma'am you can't just superhero pose. that's for Amelia (and sometimes DeLuca would join 🥺)
Wait until Owen finds out McWidow and his sister have a potential ✨thing✨
Addie refering to Link as "Scout's dad" made me laugh
Domesticity. FINALLY a word for Amelia to relate her feelings to. Also Caterina Scorsone's rambling acting was very good
"hell yeah...dr. webber, sir" levi knows how to make me laugh
Jo holding Nikki's hand was very sweet. she is doing amazing as an OB and I'm so proud of her
go team obgyn! Carina and Jo working together was everything.
Also Carina being an icon in her field pls-
"I hated the life that he loved". Go Amelia taking initiative and maybe letting Link go. because the ball's in his court now, and either he can take it or leave it. but I really hope he can find his way back
"look at you, Amelia Shepherd, all grown up". addison's return was short but very sweet and her moments with Amelia in tonight's episode were really sweet
Schmico getting spicy in the closet ;)
I still have mixed feelings on Nick and Mer, more like idk what to think at this point

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 16X10
So, I watched the Grey’s Anatomy Station 19 Crossover Premiere over the weekend. I have to say overall I really liked it! The pacing of Station 19 was a bit slow for me but other than that it was great! The fast paced Grey’s Anatomy episodes are my favourite! So I really liked this one. My heart went out to Bailey in these episodes. All the Ben and Bailey moments and they’re excitement over the new baby made me cry. Poor Bailey. She loses her pregnancy, almost loses her husband, and then her residents’ lives are left hanging in the balance. In the aftermath of the crash, Helm needs surgery; Schmitt collapses; Simms needs major facial and neurosurgery, and Parker goes AWOL and needs treatment.
I really like Meredith’s monologue in this episode. Being the best really is a catch 22. The amazing thing is no one else can do what you do. The terrible thing is no one else can do what you do. I loved the moment between Bailey and Schmitt in the supply closet. In other news, Jo totally stole that baby! Her drunken panicking about the cops is hilarious. But then we find out it’s only Meredith. Crisis averted! And she’s got wine! She came to drink with Alex because quote “Cristina sent an obnoxious Irishman as a gift” and he stole Alex’s old job. I love her. Never change Mer. Never change.
I loved her line, “That’s what I said when I stole a baby,” about Zola and Link’s response, “Why are people stealing babies?” Mer gets it. Link is confused. To be honest Jo talking to the baby in a baby voice about how Meredith is a convicted felon is everything. Cut to the hospital where Amelia and Tom are bantering back and forth. I love their banter. Amelia is looking for Maggie because she just found out that Link might not be the father only to find out from Tom that Maggie quit. Yikes!
And as usual DeLuca mouths off to his superiors and defies orders before being put promptly in his place. How is he still Chief Resident and why does he still work here? In real life that would get you fired real fast. Parker’s storyline this episode got me hard. I really like him and watching him repeat the same thing over and over again while he suffered from PTSD and head trauma was heartbreaking. I’m glad they got him the help he needed in the end. Bailey’s line, “Wouldn’t be the first time,” about her residents really got me. RIP George O’Malley. I still miss his character.
We all deserve a partner as amazing as Ben Warren. My god that man is supportive. His wife just suffered a miscarriage, he’s suffering the loss of a child, and he’s not okay, but he puts all that aside for Bailey’s sake because as he says to Webber, “Miranda comes first,” That’s true love right there. Side note: I like that Amelia and Teddy are becoming friends. I’m over this whole women on women hating each other over a man thing. That always pissed me about Addison and Meredith. Meredith never intentionally did anything to her and Addison was the one that cheated yet she treated Meredith like crap.
Eventually Jo does in fact take the baby she stole to the hospital’s nursery and in walks not her husband, but Dr. Cormac Hayes! Cristina’s Yang’s present, the new Chief of Peds, and Meredith’s new love interest. Swoon! Oh course, Jo is a weird hot mess because she’s drunk haha. Watching Hayes check the baby out using technical terms while using a baby voice so as not to scare him warms my heart. I loved Jo’s line, “Oh you’re him!” when she figured out who Hayes was and then tried to hide it so as not to scare him off. I feel like that’s going to be an ongoing plot point and I’ll be interested to see how he finds out that and how he reacts to being brought to Grey Sloan on false pretenses and the fact that all of Meredith’s friends went along with it.
The scenes with Jo and Cormac in the nursery are very revealing. He’s comments imply that he might have worked for Cristina previously which is interesting and thickens the plot considerably. I really like Hayes as a character so far. He checks all the right boxes and in his interactions with Jo this week we got some more insight into his character. Hayes is shown to be competent at his job and as someone who is willing to roll with the punches. He feels compassionate towards others in difficult situations, which includes both scared birth mothers and safe haven volunteers, and doesn’t judge them or their choices.
What Jo initially thinks is a bad idea turns out to be rather genius. Hayes advocates for the baby hatch/box/chute because it gives birth mothers who are scared and frighten a safe way to help the child they’ve given birth to have a better life and know that they will be taken care of. They help hospital staff help those babies the best way they can. Hayes recognizes that that’s what Jo is trying to do to for this particular baby and is sympathetic. Already that puts him leagues above most of the other men on Grey’s especially with Alex MIA.
I’m also excited by the prospect of finally seeing Meredith date somehow her friends and family like and who has the potential to be a real partner to her and a real stepfather to her children. They’ve established that Cormac has teenage sons of his own which means there’s the potential there for their kids to interact and to see Meredith and Hayes re-build their lives together and merge their families. That’s way more interesting to me than the whole ‘love interest of the week’ thing they’ve been trotting out for the last little while.
It’s true that Hayes is obnoxious and arrogant at time, but the show has also established that he’s got the skills to match and can admit when he’s wrong. Before the break we saw how he was impressed by Meredith’s skills, but not intimidated or jealous of her and that is exactly what Meredith needs. Someone whose on her level and who gets it, but who understands that he can’t possibly compete with her because she’s just that good.
I was really worried when Schmitt collapsed in the OR. I’m glad he made it. I loved Mer and Schmitt’s banter afterwards. She’s got all the jokes. I’m not an Owen fan and these days I’m not much of a Jackson fan, but his line to Owen was EPIC! “I figured ‘cause you have two kids together, you live together, you marry everyone, but I guess you have been busy haven’t you?” Jackson spilling the tea!
In other news, I still hate DeLuca with the passion three thousand burning suns. He’s assigned to help Elliot, the patient whose heart hasn’t restarted whose wife just had a premature baby and he spends the whole time acting like all of it is beneath him. God what an ass. He breaks up with Mer over his own insecurities and then instead of apologizing like Link told him to he mopes around the hospital and stares at her creepily and then texts her the next day wanting to talk. Ugh. Also, I hate that he calls her Mer.
That’s what her friends and family call her. DeLuca barely knows her. From the minute he took an interest in her and she indicated that she might like him back he started acting like they were madly in love and acting like they’d known each other and been together for years when they’d barely been dating a few weeks and she was adamant he wasn’t her boyfriend. God I hate this guy so much. He’s such a loser. Can they just write him off already so Mer can live her life in peace? In happier news, I was ecstatic when Elliott’s heart started beating again! His poor wife. And then we’re back to Jo and Hayes. The baby’s good to go but he sees how attached she is so he suggests they wait a while longer before calling social services.
We also learn some important information about Hayes in this scene. We learn he’s a father to two teenage boys and was in residency when his boys were infants. We also learn that Hayes is a member of the ‘it’s okay to steal cute babies’ club! He’ll fit right in with Mer and Jo! Although maybe not with Link. I really love Link and Jo’s friendship and the scene at the end with them was super cute. I loved how Richard was there for Bailey in the OR when she needed him. I’m happy that they’re friends again. Poor Bailey the scene with her and Richard in the OR made me cry. She’s not fine. “She just was. And now she isn’t.”
Admittedly, I don’t like Owen as a character but that was a good save with Simms! If he hadn’t caught that Simms would be dead. After the surgery is complete Jackson and Owen talk to Simms’ Grandmother where they learn that when Koracick moved to Seattle and wanted Simms with him he paid for his grandmother to move there too. I loved their exchange. “You know how emotional he is.” “Koracick? Of course, yeah super emotional guy.” LOL. But seriously though that was really sweet of him. He’s an ass, but he’s an ass that cares when it counts.
I like that Koracick thanked Owen and shook his hand. That was good of him. If the situation was reversed I don’t know if Owen would do the same. The Schmico scene at the end was cute! I think there’s an interesting parallel here between the Schmico scene and that Calzona scene from several seasons back. And just then, Hayes is standing at a nurses station, when Meredith comes around the corner! Squee!
Straight up, Meredith and Hayes were in a scene together for all of 5 seconds this episode and they had flat out more chemistry than her and DeLuca have ever had! Or most of her other recent love interests more that matter. I said what I said. They talk for a few minutes and then Hayes walks off to go do something. At which point Jo walks up to Mer and says, “I have to say I kinda see it.” Jo Karev: A woman after my own heart! Sing it sister! Grayes all the way!
Meredith is displeased as she finds him obnoxious to which Jo replies, “Don’t be mad at me. He’s Yang’s gift.” Haha I love it! I want my best friend to send me a man. Anyone else? In other news, Owen finally proposes to Teddy! I’m not a towen shipper, but I have to say this proposal was really sweet. Amelia decides to learn from her mistakes and tell Link the truth only to have Owen and Teddy announce their engagement right in front of them! Yikes!
And Koracick sees the whole thing from a far. Oh boy. RIP Tomaltman? Korackman? Whatever we were calling it it’s dead now. Amelia can’t bring herself to come clean after that and who can blame her? I wouldn’t be able to either. So instead she tells Link they’re having a boy Oh boy. Here we go again. We then cut away from the hospital to find Maggie drunk and passed out on the couch. Oh dear.
Someone won’t stop knocking at the door so she gets up to answer it. And look who it is. It’s none other than her ex DeLuca. Man this guy is the gift that keeps on giving! He tells her that Elliot’s heart restarted which is nice of him. He should have stopped there and left. Instead he asks if they can talk and Maggie being grateful let’s him in. He then proceeds to complain to his ex-girlfriend whose obviously hurting about how he blew it with her older sister.
God this guy is such an ass! He breaks up with Mer over his own insecurities and then has the audacity to go to his ex whose her sister and ask for advice to win her back while Maggie herself is hurting. Screw this guy! Then he tries to act like he didn’t break up with Meredith while also admitting that he meant what he said. Wow. He’s both a gaslighter and a complete idiot. As Maggie says he, “Hurt someone whose had more than enough hurt for a lifetime.” Maggie gets it and DeLuca needs to get the hell out.
He keeps talking about how he wants to undo the hurt he’s caused as if they got into a minor fight. Buddy. You don’t undo it you idiot you just move on and let Meredith and her sisters live their lives and leave them alone you jackass! And as if DeLuca’s idiocy isn’t bad enough, we then find out that Maggie’s being sued for wrongful death for what happened with Sabrina.
Also how does DeLuca not comprehend that someone with the last name Webber is related to Richard and Maggie? Man, this guy is dumb. We then cut back to the hospital to find Bailey alone in her office, but not for long. Richard and Meredith come to her office to comfort her. Mer brings her tissues and donuts and holds her hand while she tells her that, “I had a miscarriage once. I never felt so lonely.” God Grey’s just break my heart why don’t you? And then everyone laughs about the donuts Meredith brought. My heart.
Well that was intense! Now onto next week’s promo! Oooooh and it looks like things are heating up between Mer and Hayes! In the bad news column, it looks like DeLuca continues to try and gaslight Mer with the whole ‘I didn’t dump you, you just interpreted it that way’ thing and it looks like Mer is having none of it thank god! In other news it looks like Teddy somehow lost her engagement ring and Amelia finally comes clean with Link! Can’t wait!
Until next time!

Grey’s Anatomy 15x09 Final Thoughts
Guys. That episode gave me a heart attack, like, fifty times. I really don’t know how to feel about it, like at all. Let’s get started.
Levi and Nico -- Karev put into words exactly what I was thinking about these two: there is a time and place, and this was not it. Like I said in my 15x08 post, these two had no business making out in an easily-tippable ambulance when the hospital needed doctors during a superstorm. It seemed like a stupid plot device, and a completely unrealistic thing to happen, even by Grey’s standards. I’m not sure if I like these two together or not: they definitely have chemistry, but it really seems like the only thing Nico’s on the show for is to provide a romantic interest to Glasses. Given Levi’s terrible luck, I don’t really know if this is a good pair or not, especially since we literally know nothing about Nico.
Amelia/Owen/Teddy --
Caterina Scorsone’s acting was once again outstanding this week, with the billion terrible things that were thrown at Amelia all at once. Even though Amelia’s never been one to voice everything she thinks until it bubbles over, everything running through her head was shown on through her actions, her expressions, and the way she phrased her lines.
There is no other doctor that has gone through as much Amelia has and is still struggling, nor is there any other doctor who deserves a break more than she does. Yet, in the span of 45 minutes, she manages to have her love and family life thrown into turmoil. I think she did a very big thing by letting Owen make up his own mind (not that she had much of a choice), and given the circumstances (she just asked him to help her co-foster Betty!), she handled the Teddy situation maturely. That being said, I find it very hard to believe she will eventually get back with Owen, given everything. And on top of all that, she’s sending Betty away (again, not much of a choice), so she really has no one right now.
I’ve said this before, but Teddy was one of my favorite characters when she was on the show earlier. At one point, I was rooting for her and Owen, but not like this. Again, the circumstances she found herself in were out of her control, although I have to wonder -- did the writers just…forget about her heart issue? Or the fact that she’s something like 48 years old, which brings its own issues when it comes to pregnancy?
I have nothing to say about Owen except that he doesn’t deserve either Amelia or Teddy. And yes, he didn’t ask for a child with Teddy. But UGH he needs to really reevaluate his life choices.
Side note -- that elevator surgery looked so cool holy heck
Webber/Betty -- Look at these two, helping each other. I like that we got to see Betty’s turmoil a bit, and I like how Webber didn’t talk down to her, but made sure she kept out of trouble all the same. It’s interesting that even though Betty supposedly only came back for drugs, she still didn’t want Amelia to find out about it. I hope we see more of those two in the future.
Jackson --
I still don’t like Jaggie. Maggie deserves better. But I’m glad she’s there for him right now. He needs someone in his corner.
We need to talk about his scenes this episode though. I think they were actually written very well. Someone close to him is dying, and doesn’t want him to know about it, so he can’t talk about it with anyone. In classic Jackson behavior, he tries to save everyone else, sometimes overreacting in order to do this.
My first thought when I saw the Jackson vs. Link scene was that it was very similar so the episode where a famous snowboarder asked Callie to give him a new hip using a procedure she was unfamiliar with, even though she thought the safer option was something else. The operation ended up costing the man his legs. Here, Link knows that a better option would be to amputate, but Jackson wants to try and save them. It looks like everything worked out, but they were very lucky.
Link -- I’m part of the minority that really likes him and Mer together. I wish we got more scenes with him (when he’s not getting yelled at), especially since he’s a new character with an intriguing past that deserves to be explored. I do wish he put Jackson, a plastic surgeon, in his place when he tried to force his idea into an ortho problem. But it does post an interesting difference to Callie, who would have just kicked Jackson out without even listening.
Meredith/Deluca/Link --
So we’ve established that Meredith and Deluca share a mutual attraction to one another, despite the age difference / superior - subordinate problem / lack of chemistry. Cool. I still think Deluca’s rotating through relationships far too quickly to be healthy, and that he’s rushing into things with Mer.
I’m really happy Meredith’s happy though. Whoever she chooses (if at all), she’ll be happy. But I do hope it’s Link.
Alex / Bailey --
I think the ending scene speaks for itself. These two have been through so much, and this scene just reinforced their friendship and years working together.
Alex finally started acting like a chief in this episode. From yelling at Schmico to solving problems left and right to Bailey, he really shone. What a badass.
Bailey being vulnerable is not a side we see often, and I’m worried for her. That being said, did the writers just forget she’s struggled with this before? I’m confused.
Cece -- God, I cried. What a heartbreaking scene. After all the doctors went through to save her, she didn’t survive. And the fact that all the doctors she helped were there in the room with her…it was very sad.
And finally, next week’s promo promises more Link/Meredith (yay!), Jackson dealing with his mom, Thatcher (??!), and Amelia talking to Owen. I hope there’s some Jolex sprinkled in there too, but we’ll see. It looks like the second half of this season is setting up to be a good one!

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 16X03
I really liked this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy! It had a lot of twists and turns and was fun to watch! I’m already liking this season better than the previous one. Jackson is out hiking with Vic and is struggling to keep up! LOL! Careful what you wish for Jackson! In other news, AMELIA HAS DECIDED TO KEEP THE BABY OMG!!!
Zola has all the jokes and I love her for it! The actor who plays her has really grown into the role which is great to see. I loved all of the Amelia and Link scenes in this episode! Link’s the best! He’s so sweet and supportive. I love the smile Link gives her when Amelia talks about her fears and why she’s happy with their decision. I also loved that they decided to share the news because Amelia is finally happy and stable and she wants to share the happy! My heart!
I loved the scene at the end where Amelia decides to tell Meredith that she’s pregnant and that she and Link have decided to keep the baby and Meredith is overjoyed for her! She’s going to be Auntie Mer! Amelia is so used to receiving bad news and being on the receiving end of how her Addict/Brain Tumour affected actions made Mer feel that she is surprised that Meredith is happy. But of course she is because Amelia is healthy, their relationship is good, Link is good to her and for her, and Mer is happy that she’s happy.
The two of them find an elderly Asian woman wondering the halls who seems confused and is looking for her bird. They take her to the ER where, while waiting for an interpreter, we learn that she is from South Korea and luckily for them Nico, whose nearby, just happens to speak Korean. More fun with languages! I love that the actors on the show are getting to use the other languages that they speak more. It’s really wonderful to see them showcase linguistic diversity on such a popular show.
I knew something was up when Maggie’s elderly heart patient Burt convinced her to go for a walk with him to get his steps in. I just had a feeling. And then Bird turned out to be Burt! The Korean woman turned out to be Burt’s lost love! The scene where Nico helps them communicate and they tell Amelia and Maggie the story was so beautiful! Bird! Maggie and Amelia are really leaning on each other while Meredith is off doing community service this season and honestly I’m here for it. I loved Maggie’s line, “Honest and privacy are not mutually exclusive.” Well said.
Still not into Meredith and Deluca (and probably never will be) but I’m glad Mer’s working on her article! The think the scene at the end at Meredith’s house is the first time we’ve seen DeLuca hangout with any of Mer’s friends or family and the first scene he’s had with Amelia in ages. It’s progress at least. We also find out that Bailey has benched DeLuca at work! Yes! He finally gets what he deserves! Justice! As a result he’s doing scutt and overseeing Schmitt do simple procedures. Only, Schmitt screws up one of those very simple procedures when he drops a guide wire into a patient because Schmitt is a clutz and DeLuca is a horrible teacher.
I loved the scene towards the end where Schmitt was upset about what had happened so Nico insisted that they go to the skills lab and practice running central lines so Schmitt could get it right and feel confident. My Schmico heart! I’m starting to like Nico again.
Interesting tid bit from this episode: Pac North has a very fancy entrance way and super fancy elevators for such a crap hospital! There’s a cool Art Deco pattern on the elevator doors if you look closely. Also Gemma’s back! And she’s working at the Billing Department at Pac North! It's there that we get a Charmed Reunion (wink wink) ala ABC’s Cast from the Past Week.
The two sisters of the brain dead patient are hilarious! My favourite line? “A psychic is NOT a therapist!” I thought Webber handled the situation very well. I literally jumped when they unplugged what they thought was their sister Heather and then the sister’s phone went off! It scared the bejesus out of me! But it was worth it when we found out the patient wasn’t their sister! OMG twist!
Meanwhile, Jo is working as an Attending and loving it! Qadri is not feeling the enthusiasm. The patient they treat is hilarious! She wants Meredith Grey not some other doctor and she won’t settle for second best. Also, Parker is back and I love Parker so I’m happy. Teddy is still struggling with motherhood but it looks like Owen has started to step up more so that’s good. I’m surprised Teddy isn’t getting involved with the restraining order business. She’s partly responsible for why Owen and Koracick hate each other after all.
In the end, after spending a day at work with each other (and Baby Allison) Teddy and Owen decide to swap places so they can both be happy. Good for them. I loved Maggie’s outfit at the end of the episode when her and Vic awkwardly talked in the hallway. The situation may be fraught, but Maggie’s outfit game is on point! Swish swish.
I did not see the ending with Qadri coming at all! Qadri was right and Bailey was way out of line! I get why she fired Meredith but why is she punishing everyone else for it? Is Bailey just firing everyone who doesn’t agree with her now? WTF?!?! Also how are DeLuca and Schmitt still working there when they’ve royally screwed up? Why is Qadri being fired for being rightfully upset? I don’t understand.
We end the episode with Richard, after trying and failing to get his wife Catherine on the phone, agreeing to go out to dinner with his AA friend Gemma. Catherine needs to pick up that phone damnit! Onto next week’s promo! And wow does it look intense! It looks like the website Meredith sent her article to took her words out of context. Yikes! A storm is brewing for sure. Maybe this will finally get her back into Grey Sloan. That’s all for now!
Until next time!

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 16X09
This week’s episode was the Fall Finale and it did not disappoint let me tell you! It was so good! The theme of this episode for me was 'I did not see that coming!' And the ending really shocked me! It felt like the old Grey's! I have to say this is the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy I've watched in a while that made me want to actually go back and re-watch it. We open on Meredith coming out of an elevator. It’s her first day back at Grey Sloan! We find out that Mer is looking for a package. Apparently, Cristina sent her something to make her feel better after almost losing her licence to practice medicine and getting dumped. They are persons and BFF's forever! Maggie and Amelia are happy to have her back and the residents are excited to see her. They present her with a welcome back cake and Helm finally gets her hug. It’s all very sweet. Then DeLuca pipes up about not knowing that Bailey had re-hired her.
To which Meredith responds that she was going to tell him, but he was too busy dumping her. DeLuca tries to argue that he didn’t dump her. He told her to take some time. To which she responds, “Rob, Steal, Murder, Kill. It all means the same thing.” Love that salt Mer! Throw that shade honey! Such a Queen! Meanwhile over at Pac North a woman comes by to tour the ER as a potential new hire and Owen has to show her around because Alex is away in Iowa because something is up with his Mom. Yikes! That’s definitely going to be a major plot point when the show comes back in the New Year. Owen shows the woman around and is all doey eyed while doing it which Richard immediately calls him on in the most hilarious way possible!
Back at Grey Sloan Vic and Jackson are having a moment when Catherine pulls up. She doesn't know that Jackson and Maggie have broken up and as a result is cold as ice to Vic in the funniest way! I love her line, “Station 19? What is that a TV Channel?” Oh Catherine. We get a hot and sexy Amelink moment followed by a Schmico moment. Everybody is knocking boots. LOL. Good old Grey's. Side note, where does Nico work right now? Did he take a fellowship position at Grey Sloan? Is he working somewhere else and here to see Levi? I feel like they probably addressed this and I missed it. We cut to Amelia and Link have an adorable little moment where they play a cute little game of what attributes they hope their baby has from each of them. My heart!
Their game is interrupted when they find out that Jo has become a Safe Haven volunteer and just found out that a baby has been dropped off at Station 19 and she has to go pick them up. Oh boy. Link is wonderful and supportive of Jo and what she's trying to do. I love him for that. Amelia gets pulled away to talk to Bailey. They swap pregnancy updates. It's adorable. I’ve noticed Jo's hair is darker now and they haven't addressed why. That’s interesting. I like that they've turned the black female resident named Hannah Brody who was previously a background character that rarely said much into a full-fledged character this season. After losing the actors who played Sam Bello and Dahlia Qadri to other roles they could have just cast a new actor to play a resident but instead they promoted from within and I like that.
We cut to Maggie rounding on her first patient who turns out to be a man who needs heart surgery and whose wife just gave birth ahead of schedule. Maggie is nervous after what happened with Sabi and unfortunately this comes back to bite her later on. Bailey rounds on her first patient and we find out that it’s none other than Captain Herrera from Station 19 and his cancer is back. Oh boy. The residents are still doing rounds when Meredith comes in to see her first patient a teenage girl that she operated on two years ago and that's when the new Head of Paediatric Surgery walks in! His name is Dr. Cormac Hayes. He's Irish and he started this morning. Him and Mer do not get off to a good start to say the least. Hayes doesn't like it when residents round on his patients when he's not there and doesn't seem to understand that Meredith is Meredith freaking Grey and that she part owns the hospital he's standing in.
Meanwhile Jo arrives at Station 19 to pick up the baby. We find out that it’s a three day old infant and that Ben is happy to see her. Back at the hospital Maggie approaches Teddy and asks her to scrub in on her valve replacement surgery. Maggie is clearly nervous and concerned and Teddy picks up on none of it somehow. Meredith and Dr. Hayes butt heads again over their patient, who they decide to send for a CT scan, while DeLuca looks on longingly but decides not to say anything to Mer. Probably a good idea seeing as he just dumped her. Idiot. Meanwhile Bailey is giving Captain Herrera an ultrasound while they talk about her pregnancy and how she thinks it’s going to be a girl. Jackson finds his Mom in one of the conference rooms and they finally talk about what’s been going on in each of their lives and their relationship problems. I love Catherine's outfit in this scene! The striped multicoloured blazer and pink sequinned blouse are fierce! She always has the best clothes!
I like that this show has moments where they work to dispel harmful myths like the idea that using formula instead of breast milk is bad for your baby. It’s not and we need to stop shaming mothers who can't breastfeed or choose not to. Meanwhile at Pac North, Gemma and Richard are having an impromptu AA meeting in Richard's office. They're in the middle of praying when one of Pac North's incompetent employees barges in! Because they are holding hands the employee mistakes Gemma for Richard's wife! They have a good laugh over that and finish doing the serenity prayer. Pac North: Never a dull moment! Meanwhile Jo is still at Station 19 with the surrendered baby. Her and Jack have a heart to heart about being former foster kids. I really love Jo's bomber jacket! It's super cute! They upgraded her wardrobe this year and damn! Back at the hospital we find out that Amelia has yet to have an ultrasound because she's terrified of what she might find out. Bailey convinces her to get one.
Mer and Hayes butt heads again over their patient's CT scan and Hayes throws major shade. Mer throws it right back though by asking who hired him Bailey or Koracick? When Hayes won't answer and asks her why she wants to know Mer fires back with, “Bailey usually has too much sense to hire surgeons whose egos are too big to fit in an OR.” Savage Meredith is the best Meredith. Maggie and Teddy operate on their heart patient. Teddy wants to chit chat. Maggie does not. Meanwhile Catherine shows up at Pac North looking for Richard. She runs into the incompetent employee from earlier and tries to throw shade. It backfires hilariously. Unfortunately, the employee mistakenly tells her that Richard is having coffee with his wife and so now Catherine definitely thinks he's having an affair. Jeez louis.
Meanwhile back at Grey Sloan we find out that Hayes went behind Meredith's back and told their patient and her mother that she might have cancer. Mer is not happy to say the least. Amelia and Link talk about the fact that she hasn't gotten an ultrasound yet. Link assumed she had. Amelia realizes that she really does need to get one. I love her line, “He dumps my sister and you put him on your service?” Amelia. Always coming in with the one liners! Link was unaware that Mer and DeLuca had broken up. DeLuca tries to clear things up while talking to Link and Nico as they scrub in. Link calls him on his BS. Mer has very few equals because she's that good. Which is the truth. As Link points out Mer is one of the world's top general surgeons. DeLuca is still a resident. She doesn't see him as an equal because he's not. No one is. Nico makes some good points about how Schmitt isn't his equal but that doesn't mean he doesn't respect him.
I loved Nico’s line, “But if he told me to take some time, yeah no, I would not respect that.” Drop that truth Nico! Drop it like it’s hot! I love that DeLuca is finally realizing what an idiot he's been. He's acting like he's this great catch when he was dating Meredith freaking Grey. She's the catch. There are lots of men out there who would give their left arm to go out with Mer and he dumped her over his own feelings of inadequacy. He didn't deserve her and he's figuring this out after they're no longer together. You snooze you lose pal. Link tells DeLuca to go fix what he did because he's not her equal, but Mer went out with him anyway and fell in love with him knowing that. He was the one who suddenly decided that was a problem not her. Meanwhile Maggie and Teddy are operating when Tom comes on the intercom and compliments Teddy's work and then leaves. Maggie asks her why she doesn't tell him to leave her alone. Teddy responds that he's her boss and she feels guilty for breaking his I loved Helm’s line, “Wow. So many lawsuits in one explanation.” Never change Helm. Never change.
Maggie then calls Teddy on the fact that Tom is not harmless in the sense that he wants a future with her and she does not seem to want to clear that up. Just as they are getting ready to close Teddy gets called away to the ER. Teddy leaves and right after Maggie realizes that the patient's heart isn't restarting as it should. Meanwhile Bailey comes to see Captain Herrera. She confirms that his cancer is indeed back. Bailey wants to discuss treatment options. Herrera says he won't do chemo again. That's when he looks down and realizes that Bailey is bleeding. When I was watching the episode the first time through I thought for sure this was going to be a cliff hanger. That we would find out there was something wrong but not find out what it was until January. Alas we do find out. Ben and Jo arrive at the hospital with the surrendered baby. That's when Ben gets a text that there's something wrong. He runs off to be at Bailey's side leaving Jo looking worried and confused. Meanwhile Maggie tries desperately to re-start her patient's heart.
Teddy comes back in and says the heart is probably hibernating and that they need to give it time to come back and re-start. Ben rushes to Bailey's room to find her in bed talking to Carina with Pruitt standing beside her. Their faces say it all. Bailey suffered a miscarriage. I cried watching this scene. Poor Bailey. Poor Ben. She is not having a good year. This also means they'll have to tell Tuck that he isn't going to be getting a sibling after all. My heart breaks for them. Meanwhile Meredith and Hayes are in the OR doing a biopsy on their patient. It's not malignant. Meredith was right and Hayes was dead wrong. Once that's confirmed she lays down the law. “Listen Dr. Who Ever You Are, this is my house. You're a guest in my home. I got this.” Damn straight Mer! On the fashion front, Mer is back to wearing her purple pink scrub cap with the floral pattern on it. Meanwhile over at Pac North, Owen has just finished giving the new potential hire a tour. Richard gives him major side eye. He knows what’s up. Richard warns Owen that he's standing on a slippery slope.
Owen says he's not dead inside, but he's also happily taken. Richard counters by asking him if he’s proposed to Teddy yet. Owen says he hasn't. To which Richard responds, “But what? You're waiting for her to have your third child?” I love Richard. Back at Grey Sloan Mer proves to Hayes that she was right all along and he finally seems impressed. Over at Joe's Bar Catherine meets Jackson for (several) drinks and laments about how Richard is having an affair. Jackson calls her on the fact that she has no proof, hasn't actually talked to Richard, and that it seems like a simple misunderstanding which it is. I love his line, “I cannot be responsible for my relationships and yours! Alright? There's not enough therapy in the damn world for that." Oh Jackson. Back at the hospital Ben chases after Bailey in a hallway. He wants to take her home but she just wants to be alone. Which would be heartbreaking enough except that as she rounds the corner she runs into a very cheerful Amelia.
Amelia asks Bailey if she got her ultrasound, oblivious to the fact that she has just suffered a miscarriage. She urges Amelia to get one. She says she's going tonight. As if you weren't tearing up enough already, Amelia asks Bailey if she decided to find out the baby's sex or not. Bailey tearfully tells her it's a girl. Unaware of her heartbreak Amelia joyfully jumps up and hugs her before skipping off down the hall. Oh Grey's, always hitting me right in the feels. Meanwhile Teddy and Maggie try to explain to their patient's wife what happened in surgery. She is understandably upset. Maggie excuses herself because she can't take it any longer. As she walks away Koracick catches up with her in the hallway and asks what happened. Maggie says she would like to tender her resignation effectively immediately. Koracick tells her to hang on a minute. One bad outcome does not mean she should quit.
She tells him she had a bad feeling about the surgery and she should have trusted herself and had someone else do it. Maggie tells Koracick that she can't be a surgeon if she can't trust herself. She quits. Tom tries to argue with her but it's no use. She walks away. Teddy comes out to talk with Tom. He tells her he is in need of a new Cardio Chief and asks if she's interested. At which point Teddy loses it believing that Tom just fired Maggie to give her what he thinks she needs. Teddy tells Tom that she has moved on, that she loves Owen, and she's sorry that she hurt him. But that he has got to stop barking up this particular tree. Tom tells a stunned Teddy that he didn't fire Maggie. She quit. But he does think she should be Chief of Cardio. After a moment’s hesitation he also tells her that he wants a life with her and would marry her tomorrow. Tom points out that Owen has a baby with her and still hasn't proposed. He asks her if she's really sure she wants to close the door on them before walking away. Meanwhile, Bailey finally breaks down alone in her office about the loss she's suffered.
Meredith and Hayes finish treating their patient who is upset that the boy she likes hasn't texted her back. Hayes pipes up and says that as someone who has raised a couple of teenage boys he knows a thing or two. Hayes tells her that all teenage boys care about is Fortnite and pizza and that they're terrified of girls. And that they can't talk to them, especially the ones they like. This cheers her up considerably. After work Link comes over to see Jo at the loft. He asks how things went and finds out that Jo took the surrendered baby home! Did she steal that baby? Did she talk to the social worker and work something out? We don't know. The day ends with Meredith in the elevator texting Cristina. Cristina asks if she got her package. Mer says it never came. Just then Hayes gets on the elevator too. She stops texting and asks him what his deal is. Hayes tells her that he doesn't try to figure out what people want to hear. He prefers to give them all the information up front and let them figure out how to deal with it.
He follows up by saying he does this because his wife's doctors didn't pay him that respect before she died so he does his best to do so for others. He ends by saying Grey Sloan might be Mer's house, but someone gave him a key so maybe it's best if they try to learn how to live together and welcomes her back. He says he can see why she was missed and just as he walks away she gets another text from Cristina. The package isn't an it. It's a him. The package Cristina sent isn't an object. It's a person. Dr. Cormac Hayes is Cristina's gift to Mer. He's the new head of Paediatric Surgery at Grey Sloan, he's a widow (or McWidow as Cristina calls him), and he's a father to at least two teenage boys. Cristina signs off her texts to Mer with a bunch of three leaf clovers. She's gifting Mer with the luck of the Irish in the form of a new love interest. Which is such a Cristina thing to do. LOL! Everyone needs a Cristina in their life! I'm excited that Mer has a new love interest. From what I can tell Hayes checks all the right boxes. He's an attending Department Chief.
He appears to be a talented surgeon. He appears close to Mer's age. He's a father. And he's got Cristina's stamp of approval! The fact that Cristina had a hand in picking him and bringing him from Ireland to the U.S. to work at Grey Sloan to be the new head of Paediatric Surgery also suggests that Alex might be in on this too. Cristina is a heart surgeon, not a peds surgeon. It’s not her speciality. You know whose it is? Her good friend Alex. Where is Alex working right now? At Pac North and he’s happy there. Which means Grey Sloan needs a new Peds Chief. Cristina wouldn’t send Mer and her beloved hospital someone crappy. Cristina is hard to impress and if she sent Hayes to Seattle it’s because he impressed her. He’s someone Cristina thinks Mer will get along well with, can potentially build a life with, and who can do his job well in a way Alex would approve of. To me this implies that Cristina would have talked to Alex about bringing Hayes to Grey Sloan as a potential new hire before she set things in motion.
Although I doubt she mentioned the boyfriend element. My guess is she reached out to get his thoughts on Hayes and get his stamp of approval. One of my biggest pet peeves is that Cristina and Alex have butted heads with or openly disliked most of the people Meredith has dated (and vice versa). I'm excited to see her with someone her best friends actually like. We’ll have to wait to January to see if I’m right or not, but I’m really excited to see where this goes! To be honest, I think they should have gone this route from the beginning after having Mer date for a while and not wasted our time with all that Link and DeLuca nonsense, but were here now and that's the important thing! But the episode's not done yet! We see Amelia having her ultrasound. Everything is fine with the baby (yah!) except we find out that Amelia is actually 24 weeks pregnant, not 20 weeks like she thought. Which based on the look on her face means either Link or Owen could be the father. Yikes! We then cut to Joe's Bar where Ben and Captain Herrera are drinking at the bar, Jackson is drinking alone, the residents are drinking together, and Nico and Schmitt are on a date.
Herrera tries to comfort Ben to no use. Ben then questions why Herrera himself was even at the hospital. Schmitt turns to bring drinks back to his and Nico's table WHEN A FREAKING CAR CRASHES INTO THE BAR!!! I legitimately screamed when that happened! Not Joe's Bar! No! Wow. What a finale! This means several major and minor character's lives are hanging in the balance until January! I wonder what's happening with Alex's Mom. Whatever it is it doesn't sound good. Imagine how freaked he'll be when he gets back. He's already dealing with family issues and now everything in Seattle is a mess! Jo took home a baby. Cristina sent Mer a new boyfriend from Ireland. Bailey just suffered a miscarriage! Maggie just quit. Amelia might be having Owen's baby and a car just crashed into Joe's Bar! Alex's first day back in Seattle is going to be a doozey!
Until then dear readers!
