TF One Theory - Why do the Waves stand with Starscream?
Tumblr media
So I was thinking about this screenshot and to me, there's one very obvious reason why this shot is the way that it is:
At this point in time, Starscream leads the revolution. There's no Megatron to cause beef between the trio. They pull in the same direction.
Okay so take everything here with a huge chunk of salt, we don't know how and why the war has started and neither do we know what the whole deal with the Con insignia is, but what we do know is that D-16/Megatron wears it the entire movie, discovers a helmet with the same shape and that there's a war going on even before Orion and D-16 have any chance of starting it. A war without insignia, mind you.
This screenshot heavily implies that the war (or at least a war) has started without Megatron and instead, his three angels are the leading figures with Starscream on the throne - but why would the Waves serve him?
First of all, the easiest explanation: Soundwave cares more about their goal than he does about their leader.
In previous versions, it has been established that Soundwave is willing to serve any Decepticon leader as long as he believes in them and that they will make the Decepticons succeed. From Marvel to the various cartoons and comics, he has rarely ever taken command and usually was right by the side of whoever barked the loudest: be it Megatron, Starscream, Shockwave, Ratbat or Galvatron (to name the most prominent examples). He's often seen to favor Megatron in comparison to others, but he's willing to replace him too if he doesn't see any future with him leading them to victory. See these examples from US Marvel G1 where he helped Shockwave destroy Megatron after he went insane and IDW1, where he allied himself with Galvatron, hoping to achieve peace:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep in mind that both of these examples were reactions to Megatron's failures. In the Marvel version Megatron went insane after Optimus died and was incapable of leadership, in IDW1 Megatron defected to the Autobots and denounced the Decepticon cause.
In early Prime, Soundwave kept Screamer in check, however he did not contest his leadership as he later did with Airachnid. He saw Starscream as a realistic alternative or at least a temporary solution while Megatron was out of order. Once again, him following someone else was directly caused by his previous leader's inability to continue doing so.
Soundwave's loyalty is to the cause.
But what about Shockwave?
Shockwave is traditionally shown to stand in direct contrast to the others. While in Cyberverse his dispute with Soundwave is played as a joke and his disloyalty to Megatron is merely hinted at, in the comic runs he is just as treacherous as Starscream and while he's not being as obvious with it, he definitely has the intention to ursurp the Decepticon throne or more. In the Aligned continuity (specifically the Exodus novel) it is mentioned that he provoked a war between Tarn, his city, and Vos, Starscream's seeker city, to not only eradicate the seekers but also to get in Megatron's favor and prove that he is the superior second-in-command. In the Prime cartoon later on, they have an active rivalry. Starscream is constantly being pushed back, and, most notably, is the only one to trigger Shockwave's emotions. Shockwave emotes with his antennae, showing irritation and annoyance with Starscream and even openly threatens him with physical violence.
Tumblr media
However as is the case with Soundwave, Shockwave is seen to be willing to work alongside Starscream if necessary. During the End of Prime, we see Shockwave grab Starscream and flee to Cybertron together, where they also collaborated on reviving Project Predacon for Predacons Rising. Shockwave is easily capable of killing Starscream, he could also just left him with the Autobots after Megatron's end, but he didn't. He saw more logic in sticking together. He saw use in him. Curious, it almost seems like these two can get along once there's nobody to suck up to anymore, doesn't it?
G1 also has some very interesting Shockwave moments that lead me to believe that TF One is gonna lean heavily on the G1 characterizations for Starscream and Shockwave (and most likely Soundwave, too) OR make Megatron the reason for the rivalry to even bloom.
During Countdown for Extinction, Starscream makes Shockwave believe that Megatron is dead. Shockwave, blindly loyal in this version, shows distress and despair, however he allows himself to be pushed to the side by Starscream and do as he wishes (until he realizes that Megatron is still very much alive). In The Revenge of Bruticus, Starscream and Shockwave are also seen working together out of necessity, giving us this glorious screenshot.
Tumblr media
But all of these examples are taken under the circumstance that Megatron is a key figure. "Megatron" doesn't exist yet in TF: One - so why is Starscream the leader? Who put him in charge?
We don't know the reason for the war / the purpose of the revolution yet. We know that transformation isn't a given in this version (yet) and we know that freedom is not what it seems. D-16, B-127, Orion Pax and Elita-1 are all seeking freedom and this is what not only gets them their T-Cogs but also the ability to explore a world that's completely different from the city they know.
We know that Iacon exists - so perhaps other major cities we know, such as Kaon, Tarn and, most importantly, Vos, could be a topic and possible locations in the movie. My first thought was that maybe the revolution of this timeline started in Vos, in the Seeker capital, and it was Starscream who started it, given that in multiple version he leads the city-state.
Because think about it: What is the perfect symbol of freedom if not wings, if not the ability to fly? Even the damn throne looks like it has wings!
We've seen quite the amount of seekers in the trailer too, seekers that are able to fly and to transform. Seekers that are identifiable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two are somewhat getting focused in the trailer, possibly Skywarp and Nova Storm (like in Earthspark), the second might even be Sunstorm (if Hasbro even remembers he exists).
At another point in the trailer we also see a winged corpse in the foreground. I have a feeling that transformation and especially transforming to fly is going to be an important aspect in the war here.
Tumblr media
The amount of fliers heavily implies that we are perhaps right in Vos, the center of attention, and that is why Starscream is in charge. We are, quite literally, in his realm, on his turf. He is the most powerful one around because he knows his way around the city and he can fly and maybe he also has the political power needed to engage in a large-scale conflict like the one we saw. We've seen him as a politician before, as a good one too.
Whether it's with his words or his actions, he convinced the Waves to follow him and they deemed it the most logical choice to follow him to achieve their goals - whatever these may be.
Probably Megatron will be the one to rally everyone under the same banner, establish the Decepticon insignia and potentially sow the seed for the rivalry between his three commanders, becoming the ideal symbol, both a leader and the figurehead of his revolution.
I almost wish for the tables to be turned and him snatching leadership from Starscream, but I think it's more likely that the dynamic will naturally develop...or be forced on him with some good old abuse, we know Megatron. I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat Starscream up and the Waves realize that maybe following the strongest wouldn't be a terrible idea.
But yeah! That was my interpretation/analysis of that one specific frame. I'm really hyped about this movie, in case you can't tell lol.
Lemme know what you think and if you got something to add, feel free to sneak into my ask box and leave your two cents!

Only if it's fun for you, but: what are Autobot meetings about understaffing like. Who is aiming weapons at who about We're A Family Here We Just All Have To Do Our Part
this would be continuity dependent but we both know idw1 so let's do that. 'high command' is an extremely ill-defined concept in that continuity, so for simplicity's sake i am assuming that prominent g1 characters are mostly assumed, by virtue of Main Character Energy, to be command in some way.
mirage is a rich motherfucker whose bios have all historically been like "this snobby little shit" and to me, that has BIG "never been anything less than a manager of employees" energy. he definitely thinks "we're all a family so pull together, i had three zoom meetings today" is a progressive, friendly approach. he stayed late last night! on mute in a very boring meeting! this is the exact same thing, probably!
magnus canonically gives lectures on labour rights to swerve unprompted and i think he is a rare case of a by-the-book uptight asshole whose idea of "by the book" includes things like "unpaid overtime is Illegal" and "studies show that adequate breaks improve efficiency by 84%". he should by all rights also be an annoying rich asshole, however unlike everyone else he really is the sort of person who memorized the employee handbook, and if you tried to argue that "we're like a family, not a workplace!" he would in fact take personal offence. how dare you. this is a place of work and there are rules. mirage if you let your agents do unlogged overtime again he's throwing you in the brig. he does also time bathroom breaks though, jesus christ dude. he sits in the middle.
jazz used to run a union. and it would not actually be possible to start one up in the mess that is the autobot army, but the implicit threat that if someone as highly respected by the troops as he is ever tried he could bring everything to a standstill in the middle of a Literal Fucking War means that all he ever has to do when things get too bad is make an offhand, not-quite-joking comment and optimus is like "okay okay everyone calm down" immediately.
prowl will call his agents at 2am and if you try and object he literally ignores you and just keeps talking.

I remember you saying earlier (on twitter, not here) that the autobots were kind of boring, since they only fit into a few archetypes. I’ve kind of been thinking about that, and I thought they may also have been boring because of another thing: these few personality types means no one really bounces off eachother, and it doesn’t lead up to any interesting conflict.
This may only apply to G1,or I may just be talking nonsense, but compare them to the decepticons. The decepticons have a lot of different personalities , so they contrast against eachother and a lot of the times, disagree with eachother, creating conflict. However, with the autobots, the similar personality problem can come when no sort of conflict, even ones between certain characters, exists, and everyone has no sort of unique opinions towards eachother. And conflict, you know, makes up a lot for a story and characters.
A lot of people don’t care much about the autobot moments a lot, however you don’t really need to scour the internet to see videos and people posting about Megatron arguing with Starscream or skywarp getting clowned by rumble and frenzy, if you know what I mean.
hey!! wow, it is always surprising when people remember stuff I said lol
I’m admittedly just not really a big autobot fan (if I get the opportunity to write the autobots they’d be very messy) but I totally agree with you here—people seem to like the autobots, conceptually, for very different reasons than people like the Decepticons, and it factors into an interesting dichotomy between how different people view characters as a literary device.
while it isn’t a rule by any means, I’ve noticed there are a lot of people who love certain autobots, but specifically like them in isolation. the idea of the character is more important than anything they’ve actually done. pretty much every autobot that exists has a fan, but they could have little, if any, screen presence. this isn’t bad, of course! in many cases, it’s extremely novel and sweet. that being said, I’ve noticed that even the most prominent autobots have this happen—Optimus Prime is more of a symbol than a character, and that separation is a source of comfort.
This also happens with Decepticons, but I’d argue it’s to a lesser extent? They tend to have much more defined and consistent character relationships, arcs, and themes. The decepticons who are viewed in isolation most frequently would probably be Soundwave and Autobot Megatron, which is interesting (I am honestly not a fan of the modern characterizations of either of these, but I totally understand why people are!), in that their interactions, story purposes, and even personalities are flattened to separate them from the underlying narrative. People love the idea of Soundwave, but fail to give it a personality.
Once again, I don’t think any of this is bad! Moreover, isolating characters from the existing narrative and putting them in different places according to where they might better suit a story is a very good thing, actually. I’ve never agreed with the pushback for iterative/adaptive media altering existing characters’ traits or personalities to suit their thematic purpose, because I think it takes away the agency and undermines the vision of the artist. obviously you can dislike certain characterizations (I do that often) but blaming a deviation from the norm is extremely reductive. Trying to stick to an idealized checklist of how a character ought to act instead of recognizing them as a reactive, dynamic story device is how you end up with flat, unchanging characters and a boring story.
To tie that back to what I like about the decepticons, I think the fact that they are so messy is their strength—they aren’t all just different skins on the same archetype, they’re unique thematic elements which adapt and serve a function in the story. You can make them physically and even archetypally unrecognizable, but as long as you utilize them as elements in the story and afford them the conflict and complexity they deserve, it’s much more difficult to go wrong.
thanks for reading, and thank you for the question!! I hope this all makes sense—I wiped myself out last night and I’m still recovering, so I apologize if this was incoherent lol

Transformers: Mosaic #340 - "Heroes"
Originally posted on February 9th, 2009
Story, Letters - Carlos Oliveros Art - Iván Mas Colours - Rafael Yáñez
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005 | BotTalk
wada sez: (chuckles) I’m in danger. For over a week, I’m going to be serialising the “Human Component” strips by Iván Mas, which each focus on a different character from the Japanese Transformers cartoon Super-God Masterforce. A curious fandom titbit is that, while the Japan-originated continuations of the G1 cartoon were never broadcast in English, they were translated and dubbed into Spanish, giving them surprising prominence in Spanish-speaking pockets of the fandom. Thing is, I haven’t seen a single episode of Masterforce, so take my annotations with a big fat pinch of salt. Luckily, this first strip by Carlos Oliveros basically serves to provide a dramatis personae and acquaint readers with the conceit of Masterforce as laid out in its first episode. The Autobot and Decepticon Pretenders arrive on Earth in its distant past, and over the course of history the Autobots successfully seal away the Decepticons, inspiring humanity’s myths. In the present day, however, the Decepticons have escaped to wreak havoc anew! Gasp! This strip was dedicated to the memory of the lead writer of both Masterforce and Victory, Hiroyuki Hoshiyama. Weirdly, in the commentary, artist Mas seems to talk as if this was intended as an IDW strip, despite there being absolutely nothing in the strip itself to present it as anything other than a direct adaptation of the anime? Anyway, it seems to me that the Mosaic editors didn’t really know what to do with the “Human Component” strips, which made limited use of sequential storytelling, focused on an extremely obscure series, and were being produced at a startling rate. Mas had intended for them to be interspersed with other strips of his, but collaborators would result in delays; in the end, the Mosaic editors more or less paced them out between other strips by other creative teams, but I’ve decided to lump them together for ease of reading. And because I’m a freak, I’m tagging all the characters under their original Western names; Bomb-Burst is here called Blood (because he’s a vampire), Skullgrin becomes Dauros (a corruption of “tauros”, i.e. bull), and Submarauder becomes Gilmer (because he’s a fish with gills). A huge quantity of teasers and behind-the-scenes material is included below the break, along with my massaged machine translation of Mas’ own commentary for the strip.

I'm not sure how the idea of making a mosaic of these characters came up, but the truth is that I consider Masterforce by nature of the characters, chapters, drawings, plot, variety, etc, it’s the best Transformers series that has been made and certainly I think it has enormous potential.
In contrast to this maybe that's why I'm surprised by the fact that outside Japan there is almost nothing of this theme, and almost everything we find is from the 80's, a shame, but I thought it was a good way to introduce the subject in the IDW-verse, even if it is in an UNOFFICIAL way, but at least it will see enough people who may be curious about the series, they can see it and maybe they will like it.
Hopefully in the not too distant future we will be able to see something of these characters.
The concept of transformer presented here is very different from what we are used to, it is a very japanese concept, but not worse, it is simply different, in this aspect the mosaic is more as you can see, a kind of introduction to the characters and setting the scene than anything else, but as a first point of contact I think it's fine, there is another Masterfroce on the way, I hope you can see it soon.

B and R?
fandom meme: come at me friend.
Answering
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
|| 🍍• No one has particularly convinced per se on any ships, but just this incredible fandom in itself. It’d have to be a tie between Wheeljack and Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime and Ratchet. For starters, my immediate perception of Wheeljack and Ultra Magnus was that they were very stark opposites, like oil and water or the opposing ends of a magnet. I didn’t see any inkling that they could work like that initially. Wheeljack, for the most part, detests not being in control, and Ultra Magnus hinders that for him by being such a prominent figure of authority. It makes sense to me that when Wheeljack was unloading his “commanders don’t like to get their hands dirty” speech to Bulkhead about Optimus, he was subtly relaying his aggravation about Ultra Magnus as well. Maybe some part of his initial aggravation comes from a backwards thought that the two commanders had ‘taken’ his most trusted friend from him during wartime. Obviously this isn’t the case, but I feel Arcee was digging there when she confronted Wheeljack about his ‘strop’. Anyways, I feel this tension that they have is really interesting, and it most certainly changes after their heated run-in with Predaking. From that point, their dynamic shifts. They entertain working together rather than against one another, and Wheeljack appears sympathetic to Ultra Magnus who initially struggles to adjust to his new ailment. They essentially come to accept and respect each other, and that growth, though small, does way too much to me and my shipping hell. Having the no-nonsense, by the book commander relaxing and letting someone else drive for a change. I’m here for it so much honestly.
And then there’s Optimus Prime and Ratchet…ok. I’m going to come clean, like I’m a diehard Megop shipper. They’re literally, for me, intense starcrossed lovers and it’s bittersweet Urgh delicious. But Optiratch, I’ve come to learn is also gorgeous. And the show saw fit to hit us right where it hurts, especially Ratchet’s sorrowful line: “I didn’t return to save a life, only to lose the one I care most about.” They care a tremendous amount about each other, and heck they’ve known each other for ages as well. Look how overjoyed Optimus was to hear Ratchet safe and well when he’d been taken from him them. Look how enraged Ratchet got when Megatron implied the past didn’t matter, or when Optimus was on the verge of death from the cybonic plague. The potential is incredibly evident. I feel though, like how I’m a glutton for angsty unrequited or unfulfilled Megop, I’m also that way about Optiratch. At least for the most part. It’s either the whole Ratchet pines after his leader and oldest friend, but knows Optimus’s uneven emotions surrounding the opposing factions leader and so remains respectfully silent, or the notion that Optimus can’t bring himself to enter into anything with his chief medical officer because he doesn’t want to lose another dear close friend, or (I’ll be less angsty and nice) someone just points out the small things they do for one another are totally what you do for a romantic partner rather than just an ‘old friend.’
R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships
My ultimate rarepair at the moment would definitely have to be Wheeljack and Knock Out. Two very different characters from initially two different factions, who end up, in the end, on the same side. They don’t even talk in the show/movie at all! It’s a learning curve I think. My main and probably sole reason for this ship in particular is because of a wip fanfic I have that occupies the post-Predacons Rising world of Transformers: Prime, in which, without saying too much, they acquaint each other? We have Wheeljack, a mech who still not exactly overly fond of being a family man in Team Prime out of years of habit, and Knock Out who is struggling to adjust into ‘Autobot’ life and new big responsibilities after stepping away from all he’s known. A concoction of falling into old habits and entertaining some new ones. They’re not the main characters within the tale but they have an interesting story arc which I’m super excited to share soon :) Because who doesn’t love a guilty pleasure polar opposite rare pair?

THE 10 MOMENTS WHEN POP CULTURE GOT HIP-HOP WRONG
By Stereo Williams
Published Mon, June 29, 2020 at 10:50 AM EDT
After Hip-Hop’s mid-’80s mainstream breakthrough, the tropes and aesthetics of rap music were suddenly thrust into the commercial spotlight. Of course, that would eventually bring Hip-Hop to the forefront as the dominant cultural influencer for the generations who came of age as it took flight.
But in the ’80s and much of the ’90s, the mainstream public’s lens for Hip-Hop was limited. Even as Hip-Hop stars of the late ’80s gained high-profile critical acclaim with artists like Public Enemy and N.W.A. fostering the genre’s rebel image while acts like De La Soul were hailed for quirky eclecticism, many mainstream entities still seemed to engage with rap music as a novelty or an oddity.
Here are 10 of the most unforgettable (we tried, we really tried) moments when Hip-Hop crossovers made for woeful results.
0 seconds of 0 seconds
RAPPIN’ CARTOON CHARACTERS
For a generation of ’80s kids, cartoons like The Transformers and G.I. Joe were mainstays of their weekday afternoons. These merchandised toy fests of pop culture played a major role in signifying Hip-Hop’s growing trendiness. Popular Black characters on many popular action cartoons of the day were saddled with stereotypical tropes (there was even a G.I. Joe character who wore a basketball jersey and only spoke in hoop speak), and the rapping hero soon became an ’80s cartoon cliché.
The Transformers had Blaster, a communications export for the good-guy Autobots — a boom box who often spoke in rhyme: “Give us some answers and make it snappy, ’cause my buddy here’s trigger-happy.” Roadblock of G.I. Joe was the most prominently featured African-American character, and he also spoke in rhyme: “Play it straight or there’s no doubt, I’ll turn your eyeballs inside out.” He became one of the franchise’s most popular characters, famously portrayed by Dwayne Johnson in the 2013 movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

RAPPIN’ RODNEY
Goofy singles would pepper the pop charts of the ’80s and ’90s and — were it not for its rapid expansion and diversification, often independent of the biggest commercial stages — could easily have pigeonholed the genre by the “Disco-Duck”-ing of its popular image. The mid-’80s, in particular saw jokey tracks like comedian Rodney Dangerfield’s legendary “Rappin’ Rodney,” the Chicago Bears’ terrifying-but-endearing “Super Bowl Shuffle,” and the John Wayne-themed “Rappin’ Duke.”
Imagine if you’d never heard of Grandmaster Flash but this kind of thing was your initial exposure to rapping and Hip-Hop? And it wasn’t just one-off joke records churning out novelty hits. The Fat Boys had some of Larry Smith’s best production values and very real charisma, but were soon devoured (bad pun, right?) by an image predicated on cartoonish silliness of gimmicky songs like “All You Can Eat” and oldies covers like “Wipe Out” and “The Twist.”
Part of the reason some people underappreciate DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince’s legacy as a DJ-MC duo is because of novelty singles like “I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson” and “Nightmare on My Street.”
But there was a string of movie-themed duds like the Fat Boys’ “Are You Ready for Freddy” from A Nightmare on Elm Street 6, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song “Turtle Power” by the annoyingly named Partners in Kryme, and Vanilla Ice’s infamous “Ninja Rap” from the Turtles’ sequel.
Far more successful smashes like MC Hammer’s “Addams’ Groove” from The Addams Family and Will Smith’s “Men in Black” kept novelty rap on the charts well into the ’90s, but as Hip-Hop became more centered in popular culture, more people recognized these kinds of songs for what they were: fun, slick, junk food.
These songs aren’t anything close to definitive now, but for many, these types of songs were their first window into Hip-Hop.

RAPPIN’ ROCKIN’ BARBIE
Madison Avenue embraced Hip-Hop’s selling power in the ’80s and ’90s by producing rap-centric products. That still goes on today, but some early attempts at rap cross-marketing were downright strange.
In a 1992 commercial, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble became a rap duo in an effort to sell Fruity Pebbles cereal. Rappin’ Rockin’ Barbie didn’t turn out to be the toy craze of 1992, but the commercial from that year highlights the way Madison Avenue tried to connect with Hip-Hop for the sake of commerce with dance moves and a goofy boom box that “Plays a real rap sound!”
And who could forget the 1993 video game commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening? Taking a decidedly hard-core slant on a decidedly non-gangsta game was an interesting choice, with production that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a Das EFX record from around that time.
“THE PRINCESS & THE HOMEBOY”
You can’t parody what you don’t know.
That’s a truth of comedy. There’s a fine line between landing a funny punch and whiffing at it because you’re swinging at something from the outside. You have to really get it well enough to poke at it, and SNL’s attempts to mock Hip-Hop were typically awkward and unfunny pre-Y2K.
Take SNL’s 1996 sketch “The Princess and the Homeboy,” which featured Tim Meadows as a foul-mouthed houseguest of Mark McKinney and host Teri Hatcher. It opens with the warning:
“Get ready America, because next Monday there’s a surprise in store for the Fresh Prince and for LL COOL J. You see, a new brother is moving to the hood, and he’s as legit as they come!”
The skit centers around a sitcom featuring a rapper named G-Dog, who comes to the live with a white-bread couple. McKinney’s character explains: “When G-Dog’s father passed away I promised him that G-Dog could live with us.” G-Dog proceeds to yell offensive things at the couple like, “I’ll thank you to shut the fuck up, and go make me a muthafuckin sandwich!” Because, y’know, that’s rappers!
The G-Dog character seems like the kind of rapper created by folks who didn’t know hip-hop well enough to effectively mock it. Meadows plays him like a randomly cursing Freedom Williams of C+C Music Factory. Going from Compton to the country club, indeed. SNL’s contemporary Hip-Hop shots are far more on-target and funnier.
As the raunchy Hip-Hop soul of acts like Jodeci took over as the sound of ’90s R&B, SNL decided to spoof the lick-you-up-and-down vibes of acts of the era. Given that Chris Rock is involved, you would think the 1993 parody “Suck Your Big Toe” — a send-up of Hip-Hop- drenched R&B acts like Jodeci, Silk, and H-Town — would hit harder or be funnier.

TOM HANKS AND DAN AYKROYD “CITY OF CRIME”
As Hip-Hop hit the charts in the mid-’80s, it also hit the big screen and not just in rapsploitation classics like Breakin’ and Beat Street. It popped up in weird and expectedly awkward scenes in other movie genres. There’s the earnest-but-lame freestyling scene from Say Anything… , which scores points for authenticity. Nothing’s more real than four white high-school guys rapping in a convenience-store parking lot.
But there were even more egregious offenders. Sticking a goofy rap into a popular comedy or kitsch flick became a bit of a go-to formula. We would all be happier to erase from existence Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks’ atrocious “City of Crime” rap from Dragnet. We all love Hanks, but somebody should be made to answer for this one.
And the less said about the better about the 1986 video “The Karate Rap,” which appeared in the 1994 forgotten martial arts film Sister Sensei. And we may never forget the “Lambda Lambda Rap” from the finale of Revenge of the Nerds.
While the next entry could fit neatly into this category, it’s so notorious it deserves special recognition.

“TOP THAT!” FROM TEEN WITCH
So bad, it merited its own standalone spot.
It’s hard to describe Teen Witch, the 1989 fantasy-comedy white-rap musical. There’s so much bad suburban white-kid rap in this movie it’s kind of amazing. Highlights include a crew of bros rhyming their come-ons from their jeep to star Robin Lively and an infamous rap-dance scene performed by Noah Blake as the character of Rhet.
Many of the principals involved with Teen Witch explained on People TV in 2018 how that scene came to be.
“They wanted to redo the opening of the movie, and they really wanted to come up with a big rap song in the middle of the movie as a feature,” shared Teen Witch score composer Larry Weir. “So the new producers I met with said ‘Do you write rap?’ and I said ‘Yeah, I’ll write a rap.’ So I went home and worked on a rap.”
After Weir debuted the song to a raucous reception from the producers, they reshot the movie to include the scene. So they spent more money to make sure this made it into the movie.
“We had wrapped Teen Witch and all was well,” explained actress Mandy Ingber, whose character Polly is clearly impressed by Rhet’s funky dancing and rhymes. “I felt like it was a few months later, I got a call and they wanted to add some new scenes to the movie.”
Actor Blake knew immediately how cringe-worthy it all was going to be.
“I do remember walking out of the dressing room onto the set and thinking ‘Wow, this is really pushing the envelope of whatever this is supposed to be,’ ” he explained in ’18. “There was not any moment in time that I ever thought what I was doing was cool. There was no moment that I was ever not in peril that this was would be just totally humiliating.”

KARL LAGERFELD’S 1991 FASHION SHOW
In 1991, legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld debuted his latest creations for Chanel, and it became evident that the Fall 1991 Chanel fashions were heavily inspired by the Hip-Hop trends of the early ’90s.
“I think what Lagerfeld has always done amazingly well is completely capture the mood of the moment,” explained style.com editor-at-large Tim Blanks. “He listens to everything, reads everything, sees everything, and then distills it into these incredibly potent fashion images. In this collection, you get a sense that he was probably listening to rap music.”
Lagerfeld gave rappers props during the show. “The rappers are more clever, and you cannot fool them. The make-believe and all this doesn’t work anymore. You can’t cheat nobody anymore. I think it’s a good thing.”
Baseball caps worn backwards, long chains, baggy pants — they were all there. It was definitely high fashion. Was it Hip-Hop? Not sure. The looks are undeniable, but it’s hard not to wonder how much Hip-Hop fashion he’d actually absorbed up until then. Lagerfeld proved to foreshadow what would become an industry unto itself — couture fashion’s flirtation with Hip-Hop. Some people might side-eye.
But hey, at least they’re not bad looks.

MARRIED WITH CHILDREN: BEST OF GRANDMASTER B
In the early ’90s, teen stars on Fox started pining for Hip-Hop cred. Could it have been because Fox was the most Hip-Hop-friendly of the networks at the time? It was home to Martin and In Living Color, but two of the network’s biggest stars began flaunting their supposed Hip-Hop cred as their shows became ratings smashes.
One was Beverly Hills, 90210 star Brian Austin Green. His character, David Silver, was written to match his own interest in rapping and DJing, and both became heavily referenced aspects of the character throughout the show’s run. After several false starts, he actually dropped an album — 1996’s One Stop Carnival — produced by SlimKid3 of Pharcyde. There’s also a video for his quasi alt-rappy single “You Send Me.”
But if you somehow missed David Silver’s wannabe-Hieroglyphics rhyme career in the ’90s, you may recall Married With Children’s David Faustino’s foray into the rap game. Playing the popular character Bud Bundy on the hit sitcom, Faustino used his fame to bolster Hip-Hop among the LA elites, opening one of the first rap clubs on the Sunset Strip in the early ’90s. On the show, the writers took note of Faustino’s rap interests and wrote them into his character. Thus, Grandmaster B was born.
Grandmaster B was nerdy Bud Bundy’s rapper alter ego. Both a parody and a full-on representative of the kinda goofs who’d made Vanilla Ice a star, Grandmaster B makes you wonder how many people actually got the joke.

VANILLA ICE WINS BEST NEW ARTIST
Hip-Hop has an awkward history with music awards shows. Kanye West spent the majority of the ’00s ranting about it. Diddy decided to call it out in ’20. But the Grammy Awards and American Music Awards have always had a weird relationship with Hip-Hop, and it’s not limited to the infamous ’89 ceremony and MTV’s Hip-Hop boycott of that show.
You can’t expect an institution like the Grammys to dig deep for the most underground classic rap shit, but those popular awards shows had a specific lens — especially in the ’80s and ’90s — that was almost exclusively squared on whatever big crossover rap hit made waves, even if that hit was by Candyman.
You have Vanilla Ice winning Best Rap New Artist at the 1991 American Music Awards, which led to him being booed at the Soul Train Awards a few weeks later. Grammy-winning rappers of the ’80s and ’90s include Young MC, MC Hammer, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Coolio, and Will Smith (three times). To be fair, artists like LL COOL J, Salt-N-Pepa, Dr. Dre, and Queen Latifah all took home gold gramophone awards, but the Grammy organization, which promotes the show as “Music’s Biggest Night,” seemed to have a narrow idea of mainstream Hip-Hop in any given year. When you consider the historical context, the Grammys’ contemporary criticism has long, deep roots.
Today, more Hip-Hop fans tune in to the Grammys than ever before, so the criticism is louder than it was decades ago. Is change imminent? Hope so.

JAY-Z ON OPRAH
One of the common misconceptions about Hip-Hop — specifically the art of rapping — in the earlier years of its crossover was that anyone can rap. The pervasive thinking among the older generation was that rapping was just talking over a beat, and as such, you got many lame and condescending “So show me how to rap” incidents across pop culture. Sheila E.’s terrible rhyme from Krush Groove was cute in the film’s context but also showed how musicians can sometimes dismiss the art.
And there was the JAY-Z appearance on the famously anti-Hip-Hop Oprah Winfrey’s talk show back in 2009 showing the icon how to rap.
It also didn’t help that as other genres embraced Hip-Hop, they also embraced the idea of rapping on their own songs. We got years of bad raps from many performers, like the Pet Shop Boys and En Vogue, until someone got the brilliant (we’re not exaggerating here) idea to include actual rappers on such songs. Because as cool as anyone may think it is, not everyone can rap.
Artists like Jody Watley, LeVert, Janet Jackson, and even Sinéad O’Connor and R.E.M. reached out to actual rappers like Rakim, Heavy D, MC Lyte, and KRS-One to guest on their tracks before Mariah Carey’s ’95 hit “Fantasy” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard turned the approach into a winning formula for pop success. From that point on, big hits meant featuring big rappers. But the beginning was dark. No one ever has to hear Donnie Wahlberg’s rap from New Kids on the Block’s single “Games” ever again.

How often will the Vehicons (I think you know where this is going, and specifically who I'm asking about~) show up in prominent moments of Mercy?
You know by now how much of a big fan I am of how you write them~
Hi Illusive!
The Vehicons star in one storyline in particular (like a big Vehicon story), just like how Overlord and Sunder have their own storylines. However, Mercy is an interconnected game where elements from all paths bleed into each other, and to fully discover the world, you have to play everything. Vehicons are always sneaking around and you can see it when you squint.
Tumblr media
Vehicon individuality is always a theme though, never to be missed. The Vehicon mafia boss who named himself Altero makes minor appearances in most paths such as the Overlord and Sunder ones (he is already in them). He does come with a good Vehicon backstory, but it's to be discovered on that particular storyline I mentioned.
Vehicons are always working behind the scenes and start to affect politics and police in stories that take place further on the timeline.
Here is one example for you of Vehicons influencing all events of the game:
Overlord's Vehicons in the Space Adventure Storyline:
They beat up Autobots and you can see where their skills came from. They seem to just be minor characters
Overlord's Vehicons after the SA Storyline (effect of bringing them to Cybertron):
They train other Vehicons how to fight and cause a ripple effect as hundreds of previously non-threatening troopers become major threats. The entire Decepticon faction gains power and could fight to takeover Cybertron

I'd love to see your take on a scenario where TFP Sounders fights Megatron because he's finally stepping in and stopping Megs from hurting Screamer? Or for some other reason?
“Starscream!”
The grey Seeker cowered at Megatron’s booming voice. His entire body was covered in burn marks, scrapes, and dents. “Lord Megatron, if you’d just let me explain-”
“I’ve heard enough of your explanations to last a lifetime!” He growled. In response, Starscream’s wings lowered to the point of drooping, and his entire body was shaking.
“That relic could’ve given us victory, but due to your incompetence, it was destroyed! I believe I told you the last time you failed me, that you would only be given one more chance to prove your worth to me. And now, you have failed yet again.”
“But I-” Starscream stuttered. “The Autobots were the one who set off the bomb! I went in and tried to save it, I swear!”
“Another lie, to save your own plating! You probably destroyed it yourself, as a scheme to gain power. Well, my patience has run out for your lies and treachery.” He aimed his laser cannon at Starscream’s head as the Seeker fell to his knees.
“Megatron, please!” He begged. “I tried to save it, I risked my own life to get it! I’m telling the truth! I’ll even let Knock out use the cortical psychic patch on me to prove it!” His voice broke out into a sob. “I’ll do whatever you want!”
“Silence!” Megatron howled, his laser cannon heating up.
As he watched the display before him, Soundwave grew more and more uncomfortable. He knew Starscream was often a nuisance, but this time, he knew he was telling the truth. And he knew Megatron did too.
On his boss’s orders, he had Laserbeak follow Starscream around after he rejoined the Deceptions to keep an eye on any suspicious behavior. He had viewed all the video files himself before sending them to Megatron, and everything Starscream has said matched up. His leader, the one he’s pledged undying loyalty to for four million years, was setting up one of his most prominent soldiers just so he’d have an excuse to get rid of him.
“Megatron,” Soundwave said. Immediately, everyone in the room went silent. It was rare for Soundwave to speak, and whenever he did, it was always a shock.
“Starscream: Innocent. Does not deserve termination.”
Megatron scowled at his third in command. “The first time you choose to speak in years, and you use your voice to defend this- this traitor? To question your leader?”
Soundwave stared back with his blank faceplate. “Starscream: Innocent. Conclusion: Release him.”
Megatron looked between the treacherous Seeker and his (formerly) most loyal soldier, and smirked. “No Soundwave, I don’t think I will. It’s important that everyone sees the consequences of failure are. And if you are wise, you will not interfere any further. Or I will terminate you next.”
He rose his laser cannon once again to Starscream’s head, ignoring the bot’s desperate pleas.
“Goodbye, Starscream, and good riddance.”
Soundwave wasn’t sure what made him do it, it was as if his body was acting on its own accord. His tentacles flew out, ripping off Megatron’s arm seconds before he could shoot Starscream. Before Megatron could retaliate, he grabbed the seeker off the ground and opened a groundbridge to Primus knows where, and pushed them both through it.
As both of their vents were starting to cool down, Soundwave looked around to see where they were. According to the map of Earth he downloaded into his processor, he realized that they were on a small deserted island in the middle of nowhere. If they could find a source of energy, they would be safe here for a while.
Starscream groaned, rubbing his helm on the spot he landed on. “Where did you take us?”
“Location: An Island twelve hundred miles from Nevada.”
Starcream shivered at his voice. It didn’t bother him, it was the reaction most bots had.
“Why in Primus’s name did you do that!? Don’t you know that Megatron will kill you now?”
“Megatron: Irrelevant. Does not care about us.”
“I’m going to be picking sand out of my gears for weeks,” Starscream whined.
“Sand: 1200% less lethal than a laser cannon.”
To his surprise, Starscream chuckled. “I suppose you have a point there.”
It was a few minutes until either of them spoke again. But Soundwave could feel Starscream’s optics on him.
“Soundwave,” Starscream broke the silence. Soundwave tilted his helm toward him in question.
“I just wanted to... I just wanted to say... ugh.” The seeker cleared his throat. “Thank you, for saving my life.”
Soundwave looked at Starscream, who was looking down at his pedes to avoid optic contact. Soundwave tilted his head in acknowledgement towards his new ally.
“Starscream: Safe now.”

ladies and gentlemen this is ask dump no. 5
aw scrap here we go again!
answered asks include body modification as the opposite of empurata, Mutacons making bandages out of kibble, kibble used as furniture, numbers of Sweeps, a DILF alligator, RID15 Tidal Wave, a BIG infodump on dealing with the circus that is Iacon’s media, Cybertronian muppets, a WIP of Elita Infin1te (or rather her sword), and the many secret sufferings of Alpha Trion.
Tumblr media
yea, sorta! body modification in SNAP is more limited than in canon. you can’t simply switch out your body like the total frame reformats of IDW or TFP, and losing a limb can be permanent if not healed in time. for the most part, the frame you have is the frame you’re stuck with, and those frames fall within specific parameters.
HOWEVER-
some modification and upgrades do exist! the most prominent here would be a prosthetic helm like Lugnut. if the processor is left intact and attached after a helm injury, a new helm can be sculpted, with extra optics to make up for the lower quality of artificial optics, and as visibly different as possible to differentiate from empurata. other replacements and prosthetics are common after debilitating injury where the original body part cannot be saved. whether or not the prosthetic is as good as the original depends on the individual and the specific injury. there are also functional medical upgrades, like thicker armor attachments, alt mode additions, etc. almost every upgrade is for the express purpose of improving one’s frame for their function, and there’s definitely a limit to them. you can’t give yourself new limbs if you only had four to begin with. a grounder cannot become a flier. the spark can only power so much mass in the frame, and some people have adverse reactions that mean the upgrades don’t take and must be removed.
this sort of relates to the next point here-
Tumblr media
yes, with some caveats.
Cybertronians are a segmentary species, so they can detach some body parts for a bit without negative consequences, as long as that body part is reattached for revitalization and repair. many folks can do this without any medical assistance for the less integral kibble. for instance, Kup uses his tow arm as a walking stick, but he has to reattach it whenever he wants to go into alt mode, and if he doesn’t transform he still needs to reattach it for a couple hours every day at minimum. so if a Mutacon were to create a makeshift splint out of kibble and detach it, it would likely be fine, as long as they got that kibble back. otherwise, they’ve lost a whole chunk of their body that they can’t just regenerate.
for shifting armor to cover a wound without detaching it, that depends on the nature of the wound. if it’s ragged, large, or in areas with a lot of joints or movement, it might be difficult to shuffle around plating to cover it. a more superficial injury in a less delicate area would be easier
Tumblr media
sort of! it’ll depend on the individual’s kibble, of course! double checking SNAP Bulkhead, i don’t think he could, because his kibble isn’t large enough. but Scylla could probably use her alt mode arms as a chair, Wreck-Gar has a built in backpack and belly bag, and of course the Necrobot uses his wingcloak as hands. different kibble with different bonus uses
Tumblr media
the ideal number of Sweeps is seven, since less than that means they don’t have enough collective processing power to function optimally. more than seven, however, puts a strain on that collective processing power to smoothly operate so many at once. so there’s usually packs of as close to seven as they can get.
as to how many can just exist at the same time, it’s limited only by how many Scourge is willing to forge. he first invents them in s1e06 A Use for Army-building! An Upgrade to Sweeps. by the next episode they figure out that having dozens of them running around is... well it’s about as chaotic as having dozens of flying puppies with hands and weapons would be. in large numbers they’re very difficult to control. good thing Galvatron is excellent at commanding his new army!
Tumblr media
(the post this is referring to) @oldboyjensenhinglemeier thanks Dilf Waitress, i can always rely on you
Tumblr media
(the post this is referring to) i think that’s fantastic, i’d love to see a Cybertronian whale. imagine the size of the holding cell you’d have to have for him!
Tumblr media
oooohohoho what a sticky subject. here’s a quick rundown on faction ideology to give you some context for how they operate and thus deal with the media. the heroes aren’t referred to as heroes, but rather as vigilantes at best and violent gangs in a turf war at worst. Froid has remotely diagnosed them with pathological dissent. at the same time, some folks have jumped on the market to make hero merch, and it becomes a very lucrative business for some. public opinion is constantly torn between fear and anger at how they do whatever they’d like and gratitude and admiration for how they throw themselves in harms way to prevent disaster and save people. it’s really a giant mess all the time that changes by the day.
there is of course the whole snafu surrounding the media’s portrayal of the Elite Guard as a backup team for the Autobots, and Elita 1 as Optimus’ sidekick. and Elita 1 is Not Happy about that. Elita 2 is startlingly good at winding the reporters around her little finger and always seems to know just what to say, whereas Elita 3 just grumbles at the cameras, even sometimes demanding they respect boundaries or be locked in the nearest building with the use of her powers. Elita 4 barely notices them unless she’s in the mood to prank someone, and Elita 5 just avoids them, as they tend to dramatize her size and thus her danger. given their excellent teamwork and how they’re (mostly) in favor of reform instead of anarchy, the Elite Guard would actually have a good shot at getting along with the news, except they bow to precisely no one, including the people wanting to interview them, so instead they come across as a standoffish and self-serving clique with dangerous habits
the Decepticons are in the bad-boy limelight and they love it. well, at least Galvatron, Hellscream, and Thunderblast do. Galvatron takes advantage of every opportunity to pontificate on the evils of society and the right to rise up for freedom. broadcasters have learned to cut the cameras as soon as he starts speaking so his ideas don’t get the chance to spread too far. Hellscream cares less about principles and more about scaring the living daylights out of every reporter he sees, often leaving them with cracked equipment and ringing audials from the sheer destructive power of his voice. Thunderblast just wants to preen in all the attention and boy does she get it. Cyclonus actively avoids most gawkers, Scourge talks too long and complicated to make good news, Drift either ignores them or sends them away with some lofty spiritual advice, and Triptych is dangerously unpredictable so most reporters have learned to stay away from him.
the Predacons came into existence in a negative light, and they were grimly prepared for it. after all, Sixshot used to be a Decepticon, and their falling-out and defection caused quite a stir. when Abominus first appeared, the fearful reaction of the public to such an ‘abomination’ is actually how he chose his name in the first place. Airachnid loves tormenting reporters with nuclear-grade sarcasm and subtle threats, but if anyone makes her truly mad she’ll string them up in her web cabling and leave them hanging. she also flaunts that cabling by using her darts to knit nets, shawls, and other decorations, despite the fact that getting cabling tangled up in seams and joints can lead to something called entrapment protocols, mentioned in the seventh ask here. Enforcers use capture equipment designed to trigger entrapment protocols, so her mimicry of that as nothing more than a casual accessory is a big ‘frag you’.
Soundwave.... is a category of his own. he only comes into being in the fourth season, but the media soon learns to quake at the thought of encountering Soundwave, and his minicons are little better. there’s at least one instance where he Rosanna-rolls the entirety of Iacon.
the Autobots keep wavering between ‘the only true good ones of all these vigilantes’ and ‘the worst possible people in the world, hide the children, lock the doors’ in the eyes of the media. Optimus does his best to treat everyone fairly, and the Mistress usually has something encouraging to share. much like Galvatron but for completely opposite reasons, broadcasters have learned to cut cameras when Ultra Magnus starts talking, because his encyclopedic knowledge of law means he regularly lists every instance of malpractice, abuse, illegality, and disrespect that he sees in the average reporter, Enforcer, or politician, which is not the kind of upbraiding that would serve the propaganda machine. however, it does get him the attention of Tyrest, who leverages legality and public opinion to try and draw Ultra Magnus into an agreement during s3e03- A Councilmember’s Boon! An Upgrade to Legality. Rodimus is a chaos beast who has been known to snatch cameras for selfies. it’s kind of a tossup as to whether Cheetor will be going slow enough to show up in the footage or not.
now, i can’t talk about the media without mentioning the feral force of nature that is Rewind. the best of the best, he’s the only one willing to brave the battlefields for an up-close look, constantly endangering himself in order to get the freshest scoop. he might not always hold opinions in line with the mandated propaganda about these vigilantes, but the media lets him get away with it, since he’s the most successful at getting them more news. this has caused him to be targeted at least once, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
love this question. love it. you know those lil remote controlled robot dogs, or things to that effect? i’m imagining that’s what Cybertronian muppets are like, since they can create robotics and animatronics with a lot more finesse and ease than we can. in fact, making fabric is probably harder for them than robotics, since they don’t have the same materials as we do to work with. but anyway, these muppets wouldn’t be limited by what a hand can do to puppet them around, being instead remote controlled from off stage, so i don’t know if they’d have that kind of visual gag. maybe instead there would be fourth-wall breaking where one muppet snatches the remote of another?
Tumblr media
the painful thing about this answer is that i have a design i’m happy with EXCEPT FOR THE HELM i have sketched and resketched a dozen different ideas ugh. the body looks fine, all five of them combined in a way that makes sense to me, but i just CANNOT get the helm right i’m so angry. anyway here’s the Cyber Caliber, all of their swords combined into one massive weapon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the more accurate question is, what hasn’t happened to him. he’s been through a lot, the poor mech. but i’ll list some things for you:
that one time he had a sibling be erased from reality
that one time he had to murder another sibling because they decided evil was fun
that one time a fragging beachball stole his work
the fact he doesn’t know if his twin is alive or not
that one time he was a junker running for his life
that one time he was too late to save the Terminus Blade, and it was stolen
that one time his pride and joy, the Athenaum Sanctorum, was destroyed, and everything archived there was lost
that other time the same fragging beachball stole his work
that other time he was a junker hiding for his life
the fact that the theft of his diary started a whole new branch of religion and he has to read his own words as if they’re sacred
the fact that the title of Trion was in fact derived from his diary, and the sheer painful irony of being given the title of Trion.
that one time he had to rip off some fingers to fit in
that one time Trypticon showed up, awhile before the JAAT was founded, and he had to take it on alone
that other time Trypticon showed up when the JAAT opened and he had to hand out some precious relics to children to protect the school
aaaaand his current reason for drinking! the fact that of all twenty-something heroes running around, he only knows who THREE of them are because he only gave out THREE RELICS! and relics just keep disappearing from the collection he’s guarding
someone help him he is not having a good time. and it’s only going to get worse...

How would have Soundwave’s arc progressed if you went along with your original plan?
I had multiple scenarios cooked up:
A. Soundwave isn’t in the arc at all.
B. Soundwave somehow got stuck in the base with Starscream?? Somehow?? Maybe by chasing his little aft through the bridge as a result of a deranged attempt to capture him.
C. Soundwave gets taken captive by the Autobots. Starscream in his desperation to calm the infected Autobots down goes to get help from Sounders because he’s suddenly the calmest person left in base. I was thinking that maybe in the past Soundwave and his lil community of other bots like him all lived in a town that was threatened (maybe by a plague that was meant to be an allegory for synth-en) and Soundwave was the youngest and least equipped to help.
But then the Council refused to help them and there was a scene in which poor Soundwave watched them vanish into the sunset. Soundwave went on a quest of revenge against the government to avenge them. So the past was meant to mirror the present: a group of bots is under threat and the person who is able to help the least has to help the most.
Starscream subtly-but-like-not-so-subtly asks for help. Soundwave at first says something like “i am just. in my cell. it’s a good cell. leave me be. you and the Bots are all on your lonesome” but then he realizes just how much like the Council he’s become and that denying help to a group of suffering victims is exactly the kind of awful Council behavior he’d fought against.
I was considering having a second set of flashbacks set during the war in which there was a group of Neutrals in danger and Soundwave left them behind. It was going to end with him walking away leaving their desperate selves behind as he walked through a scarred and smoke-covered hallway before vanishing into the gloom as alarms blared.
Then there was going to be a parallel scene in the present in which Soundwave has a big I Must Help These Idiots moment. He breaks out of his cell and runs down the one of the base’s smoke-ridden scarred hallways with alarms blaring.
Starscream was just going to be sitting there and kind of moping before then hearing Sounders shuffle up to him. And then Soundwave was just going to casually begin reciting plans, like “okay, here’s how we should restrain Bulkhead for his own good, here’s how we make sure Arcee doesn’t sneak up on us, etc.”
Then Starscream was going to be like :0 “wait you’re helping? did you have a change of heart...... :)?”
And then Soundwave was going to get all riled up like “nO” and just completely ignore Starscream’s attempts to point out that what he was doing was technically treason. This arc was meant to end with Soundwave just not being ready to join the Autobots, not yet, and asking to be bridged away.
Starscream was going to stare at him wistfully as Sounders glided off into the sunset and it was meant to mirror that earlier flashback scene in which Soundwave watched the useless Council vanish into the sunset. So Starscream was going to take the role of helpless bby Soundwave and Soundwave was going to have this big Moment of Redemption in which he acts the way the Council should have. Soundwave was meant to realize with a startle that this is the closest he’s gotten to bringing justice and that it took being removed from the Decepticons to help him bring justice.
I scrapped this version of his arc because I wanted the pressure to save the day to be almost entirely on Starscream’s shoulders. I also felt that having Soundwave be that prominent would push Ratchet to the side and prevent him from regretting his actions and helping to save the day. This was Ratchet’s time to shine and having the focus shift over to Soundwave would’ve been jarring and unfair. Ratchet took over Soundwave’s role in the final draft. Also the two scenes with the sunset gave me cowboy vibes and all of the cowboy vibes must be reserved for Wheeljack. I did like the idea of Soundwave helping out though so instead of being this major player in the quest to save the high Autobots he instead does his three little acts of helpful treason instead.
Minor spoiler: there are going to be future instances in which Soundwave and Star work together based a skoosh kind of off this arc. No clue if the backstory about his lil community will make its way into the story or not. I have no idea what the official name for Soundwave’s frametype even is. Cablebots?? Telepaths? Cryptids???

Hello! Thank you for sharing so much stuff from the notebooks! I will most definitely buy them when they will be available (though I hope that it will deliver to the country I live in xDD). Though, I have a question... is there anything interesting about Ratchet? Like from what I got from Drift’s profile, apparently Ratchet and the others were the ones who opposed Drift and it led to Lost Light crew’s split into two crews???
Oh, and now I wonder whether other “background” characters had much larger roles planned for them (like Sunstreaker, Mirage, Hoist, Siren, etc.).
My pleasure!
I'm pretty sure JRo is gonna ship wherever if you can pay. From what he said he was willing to make the effort to get them to folks!
Onto your questions, anyway.
Ratchet is a character who didn't have that much stuff in these that stuck out to me on first read. It's interesting: some very, very prominent characters really don't get that much "new" stuff here, which I think is because… well… they really were almost "there" from the very start, conceptually. Fun fact: I haven't said much about Rodimus yet in part because it's obvious JRo just HAD his ideas for him nailed down out the gate. (Similar with Magnus. It's astonishing how much Magnus as we come to see him in the final product is just THERE from day one. Only thing that took a little while to nail down was the armour stuff, but even then, he hits on the basic concept pretty early.) The characters with the most interesting stuff in these notebooks are the ones where he's trying to work them out and they changed over time- characters like Brainstorm or Rung.
But he's obviously in there! He absolutely comes up, haha. So let me check for a few things.
The character profile for Ratchet (these are from 2011, so when he was into writing the first few issues iirc) emphasizes that he gets along with everyone except Drift. It actually seems like his more TFA/TFP style mildly-to-moderately cankterous characterisation that JRo famously half-retconned MTMTE Ratchet into (from IDW's earlier, more generic characterisation) wasn't much here even at this fairly late stage. You can see it coming out in some of his ideas, but it's not really nailed down when he describes the character directly. He's remarked on as 'friendly' and getting on with everyone but Drift. So. It also remarks on him as someone trying to advise Rodimus (but Rodimus unwisely chooses to go with Drift's advice instead, with them at odds), which went to Magnus in the end more than Ratchet. But you can see where this concept came from- it fits with the Drift-Ratchet antagonism nicely. And that's for sure here from the start, with the atheism and Drift's (in this version, seemingly somewhat inauthentic) new age-y religious perpsective butting heads.
Also, his motivation for joining here is twofold, and doesn't really reflect what happened in the final comic, though it does mention his wanting to 'regain his faith in what he does' and wanting to find a new CMO after (in this version of Death of Optimus Prime, called at the time Schism) misdiagnosing OP with something and it nearly killing him. But he also wants to find, and fix, Autobots that are stranded/lost around the galaxy after the war.
In the concept brought up when I talked about Drift's character profile on my last post, where Rodimus and Drift would split and go in different directions, Ratchet was going to stay with Rodimus' side of the crew, yeah. Not go with Drift.
OH. One thing though. Ratchet originally kills Pharma directly, which I think miiiight have been inspiration for the next arc with him having First Aid get goaded? Possibly? As follows:
Tumblr media
Now, onto the next part of your question. Not a huge amount, actually. Most of the characters with material in there which didn't wind up with a major role after all are characters who were cut or replaced, not ones who wound up as background fodder. There was a concept for an issue with, of all characters, Dipstick, where he becomes like a data ghost after his death and is communicating through the ship, and Ratchet tries to get him into like… a kind of permanent holoform. Very odd little idea, that, comes up twice. Both times, JRo adds a 2022 note like 'I have no idea WHAT this was, no memory of this at all', lmao. Bluestreak is mentioned once or twice in a way that suggests maaaaybe he would have been a little more around? But by and large, the main cast are the main cast from the get go, with the exceptions being situations like e.g. Powerglide would have had the role that got transplanted directly onto Tailgate.

SOME LINKS/MANUFACTURERS TO IDW/MTMTE FIGURES:
Note: This list is for self reference and I am not endorsed by any of these companies. It’s also for shits and giggles because many of the manufacturers are Third Party (aka not officially licensed) and as I mentioned in my previous post…. I love the terrible names the figures get in a bid to escape trademark infringement. My brief descriptions probably doesn’t do the manufacturers/companies justice, so if you come across this post in search of figures, please check them out!
It’s a very long post, so I’m going to be cutting this post past the first manufacturer.
A small disclaimer that I am also kind of a newbie to Transformers and my research may be limited, so do forgive any factual inaccuracies and such. This is also an IDW/MTMTE specific list and THERE MAY BE SPOILERS. Additionally, I’m exclusively using promotional images from the companies (aside from my own pictures).
FLAME TOYS
http://www.flametoy.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=22
https://www.facebook.com/flametoyshk/
Their products can be viewed on TFSource and BigBadToyStore too among a few other sites! They’re also officially licensed by Hasbro.
They carry a wide range of figures including a few really nice model kits that are based off the IDW designs. From what I understand, they have two (?) prominent types of toys for Transformers, the first being Kuro Kara Kuri (High-end, Preassembled figures, usually on the pricier end) and Furai Model (Model Kits which you have to assemble yourself).
They’ve released IDW figures such as (and not limited to):
Kuro Kara Kuri Tarn (I really love this one, it’s REALLY pretty)
Tumblr media
Furai Model Megatrons (Both the Decepticon and Autobot versions)
Here’s my Autobot version Model kit that I lined! It was my first kit so I’m very happy with it :^) Feat. McDonald’s Cyberverse Starscream
Tumblr media
Kuro Kara Kuri Megatron
Furai Model Drifts (ClassicTM Drift doesn’t seem to be sold anymore, but they’re recently released a Shattered Glass Drift!)
Furai Model Coptimus
Furai Model Ultra Magnus (I’m very confused about this one, and I’m not even sure if it’s because I haven’t finished the entirety of the IDW comics. Magnus, why do you look like that…? Nonetheless, it specifies that it’s an IDW ver. figure. It’s this guy below. WHO ARE YOU??)
Tumblr media
Furai Model Starscream (It’s not explicitly stated to be IDW and I could be wrong, but his proportions suggest IDW rather than G1? Many of his features seems in line with his IDW self compare to his other continuity counterparts, so I’m putting him here just in case. I don’t think he is officially sold anymore as he and Drift are older figures)
They also have some very exciting IDW stuff announced (There’s a Furai Model Rodimus Kit that is supposed to be released in July 2021 and I’m writing this at the end of July haha… so I don’t know when it’ll be out. I’m very hyped for him and he’ll probably be shipped out sometime this year probably-):
Kuro Kara Kuri Cyclonus (The concept art is ✨gorgeous✨, no sculpt released yet though)
Kuro Kara Kuri Rodimus (They are spoiling IDW Rodimus fans, he is also✨ gorgeous✨)
MASTERMIND CREATIONS
https://www.mastermind-creations.com/collection.html
https://www.facebook.com/CreationsMastermind/
Their products can be viewed on TFSource and BigBadToyStore too among a few other sites, and I’d recommend it as it seems hard to see their whole collection on mobile. They’re a third party manufacturer.
✨Here’s where the fun begins!✨
They have a surprisingly huge (and niche..?) range of IDW figures and they all have wAcKy names.
Some of their IDW stuff includes:
THE WHOLE DECEPTION JUSTICE DIVISION?? (Yes, even Nickel and Dominus Freaking Ambus/The Pet. This whole concept is so wild to me and I’m still staring in awe that Kaon (Dubbed Anarchus, by the way) turns into his chair alt-mode. How cool is that?! I’ve mentioned it in my last post, but Tarn is called “Kultur” and I wheeze at his stupid name)
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT!!! Anyway, back to the list (including their knockoff names)
Chromedome and Rewind (Mnemo and Motif)
Three Rodimus Figures, Classic, Lost Light and Shattered Glass with a Moustache (Calidus, Calidus Asterisk Mode and Calidus Shadow Ghost. Amen.)
Wing (Aero Alpha)
Getaway (Exitus. I will never get over his name.)
Megatron (Tyrantron)
Drift (Stray)/Deadlock (Ater Beta)
Thunderclash (Collisus)
Ravage (Jaguar) (Completely unrelated but I should mention that they sell a cage specifically for Ravage)
Tumblr media
LET HIM OUT
Impactor (Spartan)
Mentis (Rung)
Rung appears to an upcoming release and I’ve rebooted the promotional pictures from another blog awhile ago (it probably contributed to this downward spiral into looking at third party figures) but here’s one that I found! Everything about it seems wonderful. LOOK AT THE SCOOTER!! HE IS ROLLING
Tumblr media
And these are just the people I recognise off the bat! They have many other transformers figures too and it’s a gold mine of pretty figures that are quite accurate to the source material (I really like their face sculpt for Rodimus). The names to make fun of are really just an added plus.
GCREATIONS
https://www.facebook.com/gcreationchina/
I didn’t link their “official” page mentioned on Facebook as it’s a link to Weibo (Chinese social media site) and it leads to a staff members account rather than an official company account cataloging their products. Feel free to take a look at it though! I’m not sure if they’re still active as their last post on Facebook is from years ago. Their products can be viewed on TFSource and BigBadToyStore too among a few other sites, and once again they’re a third party site.
Their range of toys are pretty small for IDW but I thought they were absolutely worth a mention because the figures are great.
The two IDW figures (along with their pseudo names) they have are:
Prowl (Rebel)
Tumblr media
I’m inserting a picture of him because man I love this figure. He looks like an asshole. I want it.
Drift (Ronin)
I don’t have much to say other than that their fake names are well done and so are their figures. I mainly know about this company as I was looking for an IDW Prowl figure and they delivered so excellently. Let me simp in peace.
MAKE TOYS
http://www.maketoys.jp
https://www.facebook.com/Maketoys/
The link to their official page seems to be broken for me, but I put it here in case. Their products can be viewed on TFSource, third party site, you know the drill.
They have a small range of IDW/MTMTE Toys but boy are they absolute madlads in naming their figures.
Here’s the line up:
Swerve (TRASH-TALK. HIS NAME IS ACTUALLY TRASH-TALK HAHAHDJWJSHS)
He doesn’t come with it, but they’ve got a My First Blaster TM add-on for him and that’s pretty neat.
Tumblr media
Tailgate and Cyclonus (Rear End and Hurricane. How does one top REAR END?)
Tumblr media
It comes with a cute panicking expression too úwù I’m actually tempted now. The reviews on TFSource also decided to use their fake names to refer to them and I can’t get through reading them with a straight face.
AND SO WE’VE COME TO THE END OF THE LIST. PHEW. If you made it to the end, thanks for reading!! I had a blast making it despite it taking so long to compile and research and I hope it was enjoyable despite the chaos of it all :^)
ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR READING
TILL ALL ARE ONE!

10 Popular Transformers Fanfiction Tropes/Ships That I Don’t Like (And Here’s Why)
Disclaimer: If you enjoy these? Fine. If you don’t like these? Also fine. You’re entitled to your opinion, and I’m entitled to mine.
1) Human x Cybertronain parings.
Now, I wanna say that it’s not the pairing in itself, there can be relationships without physical intimacy, and that’s fine. If they’re presented as only having content with each other, and not needing physical intimacy, I’d readily accept that. However, a lot of times, I’ll see stories where a human and a Cybertronain manage to conceive a child, and it annoys me because (not only is there a huge size difference) it also shouldn’t be biologically possible, and yet, it always happens, and there isn’t ever a really GOOD explanation, if there’s one at all.
2) Major OC inserts.
This is gonna get me some hate, but I’ve never been a fan of OCs in general, especially in a franchise that has as many characters as Transformers does. A lot of times, the OCs are completely overpowered, and they HAVE to be the child of someone important, whom everyone is after, or they’re a secret Prime, or a great warrior, or, they’re a plain human (but really techno-organic) who suddenly finds out of their Cybertronian heritage. I come to fanfiction to read about the characters I know, and I find it hard to really care about any OCs because I don’t know them before hand, and why should I take the time to learn? This isn’t an attack on ALL OCs, but I think they’re best in small doses on the sidelines, while the main fic primarily focuses on someone else.
3) x reader stories.
Now, there are a lot of these (especially on wattpad) and I dislike them for a lot of the same reasons I dislike the previous 2, I just, don’t care. It doesn’t feel real to me, and you get stories titled “Transformers One-Shots” and I think it’s gonna be a good story, but I go to the chapter index and all I see is “Optimus x Yandere!reader” “Megatron x Mute!reader” “Soundwave x Demon!reader” and it annoys me, because I came looking for Transformers one-shots, and I got this...
4) Human centric stories.
I am but a simple fan. I’m here to read about the giant metal robots. I would like to read about the giant metal robots. Sam Witwicky is one of the most common characters to be a main human protagonist (Usually with powers granted to him by the AllSpark) and I just don’t like him. It bugs me, and I get they’re trying to give more love to the human characters, but the humans only ever truly work as a supporting cast in Transformers, and putting them in the spotlight kinda annoys me.
5) Unnecessary gender swaps
This one has always bugged me because you’ll get great summaries like “With the Autobots running low on moral and supplies, tension is high. Megatron has been missing for months, and the Decepticons have gone silent. When the  battered and injured Warlord of the Decepticons stumbles to the Ark with no memories, a sinister plot is uncovered” and then it’s like “oh, btw, fem!Megatron” and it seems SO unnecessary, and I have to ask what the point of the sex change is. And usually, ANY sex change is accompanied by a pairing with someone formally of the same gender, like “Fem!Megatron x Optimus” or vice versa, and it kinda ticks me off.
6) Unnecessary new sibling/twin character
This kinda falls in line with OCs, but it’s a category of it’s own. Authors introduce new sibling characters (usually with VERY similar names) and then the story focuses on them, like “Samantha Witwicky, twin sister of Sam Witwicky”. Most people seem to paint it as a “what if (insert character had a sibling) but the sibling is so prominent in the story, it’s kinda clear it’s just another OC in a shiny new paint job. Typically, these characters are also very Mary Sue-like.
7) Megatron x Starscream
This may be because I’m a big MegOP fan (Even though I can actually picture Optimus with more characters than Megatron) but I’ve never been a huge fan of this pairing, at least, in any way other than a VERY casual fling. I can’t see Megatron tolerating Starscream enough to actually frag him.
8) Shockwave x anyone (post-shadowplay)
His whole shtick is that he’s logical, cold and emotionless. He would never care for anyone, regardless of circumstance even in the continuities where Shadowplay wasn’t a thing yet. I find it so aggravating when I see “Shockwave grows to care for this new recruit” or something along those lines, because he doesn’t care about love or romance. Dare I say it, but it’s illogical to pair him with anyone.
9) Optimus Prime x Bumblebee
I shouldn’t have to say much, but I feel like they work more with a family dynamic than with any sort of romance dynamic.
10) Megatron or Optimus (or any other popular character) x characters they have no history/chemistry with and only spoke to like once
So, this happens a lot, and it’s always just, lackluster, because in the shows, usually, the characters have never never even spoken to each other alone, and at best have spoken on the other’s presence. Like, I’ve seen quite a bit of TFP Megatron x Arcee, but they’ve never really interacted in the show much at all. I don’t even think Megatron has ever spoken Arcee’s name. Another ship I’ve seen that does this is Optimus x Grimlock (which I put in the same category as Megatron x Starscream). It’s just unbelievable these two would ever actually frag, and it pulls me out when it tries to be serious.
No, crack ships and stories do not count, those are actually fun, as they don’t take themselves too seriously, and, generally speaking, do tell a nice and entertaining story.
Welp, this was it. I’m ready for the comments now.

It's Transformers Prime Time ep4!!!
Well it's been a bit of a break, but I am back and ready to continue shitting on Megaweenie.
We start where we left off: Megadump summoning the dead for his undead army. Because he wants to be tyrant of the fucking ashes apparently. Again... I am apparently supposed to be impressed? I am supposed to think he is a badass? So far he hasn't done SHIT.
Ratchet: how the fuck do we kill the dead?
me: good question!
The answer is slicing and dicing!
Tumblr media
WITH SWORD ARMS!!!
Cut to Bulkhead and the human kids. Honestly nothing terribly exciting here imo. Bulkhead just wildly killing vehicons because y'know.... it's not like cybertronians are a finite species at this point or anything. What I will talk about is the contrast in details between Bulkheads model and the rocks.
Tumblr media
He just gets so much more detail and that is terribly amusing to me.
Also!! An interesting thing I have noticed, the vehicons have a lot more scratches and dings on their armor than like.... any of the prominent cybertronian characters. In fact the only time you see an autobot or one of the decepticon officers in a similar state of disrepair is Starscream. When he is exiled from the Nemesis for a period of time and on his own. Thus likely unable to keep up with any maintenance.
Which makes me wonder.
Do the decepticon officers purposefully do that? are all supplies that could be dedicated to maintenance kept to the command staff only?
Tumblr media
Also do any of the vehicons even have a decepticon badge?
hurm, must pay closer attention
Tumblr media
FOR THE KIDS
Tumblr media
On a serious note Fowler has to be in a MONUMENTAL amount of pain. The shoulder sockets were not meant to sustain the weight of a full grown man for any length of time. As far as I can tell Starscream hasn't given him a moment to rest either. And like... it worked. Fowler technically broke, but Arcee, Bumblebee, Bulkhead and the kids all show up just as he's about to tell Starscream where the fuck they are. Of course hearing gunfire in the distance snapped him out of it.
After the scene with Starscream and Fowler is a really well done sequence. It details a fight between the autobots and the vehicons, but from the POV of the kids. So the shot are lo to the ground, underfoot of the Autbobots. The actual sounds of the fight are muffled under an eerie droning music. It's fucking superb. Tattoo it on my face.
Optimus and Ratchet keep fighting. Fight scene is pretty generic. They almost get overrun by zombies.
Back to the rest of the bots. They dump the kids in a random room and poor Raf freaks because shit is intense and Jack and Miko started fighting. Jack points out a nearby screen to try and distract Raf.
Tumblr media
anyway I love him so much.
Bulkhead and Bumblebee have guns on him, Arcee has hers at his head. He has a gun on Fowler. He transforms into Arcee's face to get away. It's all great.
I love Starscream so much.
Meggletron: this is just a prelude!
Optimus: I am going to climb this mountain to punch you IN THE FACE
Meggybob: UH BYE
Anyway time to watch Optimus scold the kids for... everything.
Jack gets pissed at Miko for being so blase about all of this since Raf almost died. Telling her she needs to stop treating it like a game. Miko shoot back that all of them almost got killed. She will not learn the lesson, Jack.
Ah we get the lovely first scene of Megaabuser beating the shit out of Starscream for... reasons? I guess? He is angry that Starscream fucked up his plans but... WHAT PLANS? WORLD DOMINATION VIA ZOMBIES?????? STARSCREAM WAS TRYING TO GET INTEL FROM A PRISONER, THE KIND OF SHIT THAT A GOOD SECOND IN COMMAND WOULD DO.
ugh
Anyway end of episode. We find out that the kids snatched plans for this thing called a spacebridge. Which would link to the planet Cybertron. Which is nothing but an extravagant graveyard right now.
Because remember, Megafuck's plans consist of literally nothing but raising the goddamn dead to command as an army. Because he is a moron.

Pros and Cons of all the TF shows I watched [updated: Unicron Trilogy and BW Neo]
Update info: Whyever the hell I wrote this and why people care about my opinion is beyond my current understanding, but @chaoticgirl23 asked for the Unicron Trilogy I hadn't watched back then, so- Also decided to write down if I actually like the show or not xD
(also I removed wfc, because I cant really judge after all with the show not being finished) My personal opinions + stuff that can be dubbed controversial and problematic, so beware for racism and sexism! But also beware of my idiotic attempts at humour
G1 (loved the show with all my heart)
Pros:
- The original show
- big cast of loveable characters
- Really awesome human side characters
- Very clever and witty dialogue
- fucking batshit insane
- Rodimus Prime is babe
Cons:
- apart from Arcee, female autobots being treated like a subspecies and only appearing in like one episode (3 if you are generous)
- Motherfucking country called “Carbombya”
- Some human characters are actually shit (those boys from B.O.T)
- Rodimus fucks as a human and not as a robot
- Everything animated by AKOM
- Galvatron’s portrayal as a person with brain-damage reads as ableistic (Personally I still love his G1 version more than the others I’ve seen)
- The “You’re only truly disabled if you lose your courage” line from Chip, it was explained to me that it’s ableistic as well
Headmasters (loved the show)
Pros:
- exciting plot
- characters die, fuck yeah
- Planets get destroyed, fuck yeah
- <3 ~ Power of Friendship ~ <3
- Sixshot is babe
Cons:
- Everything about Cyclonus and Wheelie
- Rodimus fucks off after episode 10 and never comes back
- Arcee going from warrior to secretary
- If you come from IDW I have to break it to you that Chromedome is straight
SuperGod  Masterforce (loved the show with all my heart)
Pros:
- A darker and more serious storyline if you’re into that
- Lots of character arcs and well-written characters in general
- Decepticons having a more family like dynamic
- Decepticons with a level of depth to them
- Redemption much
- Ginrai is babe
Cons:
- This show’s focus is on the humans so if you don’t like human TF characters, this aint for you
- The character Cab has a level of racist stereotyping - he comes from a fictional country in Oceania called Karin and the depiction of that country is everyone living in wood homes and having no electricity. (The show plays in the future so that makes it worse) Cab himself gets introduced as a Tarzan kinda dude who can talk with animals.
While I found Cab himself not bad as a character, the problem with how his background is written sure is stupid and insulting. There isn’t a lot of focus on his country in the show however, but it’s still there
- There is a scene in which the boys Shuta and Cab spy on girls during swim class (they get called out and apologize for it though and the “fanservice” scene itself is really damn modest and tame)
Victory (loved the show)
Pros:
- Similiar fun tone as G1
- lovable cast of idiots
- Exciting episode plots
- Leozack is babe
Cons:
- The only two prominent female characters are love interests and nothing else (which is drop in quality when compared to Masterforce, which had Minerva as a fleshed out autobot with agency and Mega as an interesting female villain)
- Leozack never punches Deszaras in the face
- Fucking retcons the destruction of Mars in Headmasters
Beast Wars (loved with all my heart)
Pros:
- Really compelling story and characters!!!
- Well written dialogue
- Wonderful character animation
- Dinobot is HONOUR and babe. Also I’m crying
- Megatron and his bullshit
Cons:
- Megatron and his bullshit
- That stupid love triangle subplot in season 3
- Some major plotline not being fully developed (the Vok plotline)
Beast Wars II (liked the show)
Pros:
- The Predacons in general
- Lio Convoy (the Optimus of the show) having a son
- Galvatron is babe and so is Starscream
Cons:
- Maximals are lame apart from Lio Convoy and the arc with his son Lio Junior
- A lot of uninteresting characters an episodes
- The Jointrons as racist mexican stereotypes
- Only female robot is part of a love triangle (even more annoying than the love triangle in Beast Wars)
Beast Wars Neo (liked the show)
Pros:
- Big Convoy being a lone wolf turned teacher was a really sweet story to follow <3 How he and his team learnt to trust each other over the course of the show was really nice!
- Unicron in this show was a delight
- D-Navi was always fun
- Magmatron was a rather nice Decepticon leader
- Heinrad is babe
Cons:
- No girls (Boo!)
Beast Machines (very conflicted, tend to dislike)
Pros:
- Plays entirely on Cybertron
- Explores themes of technology and organic life forms and really tries to be something different and deep
- The last episode is really nice
- Jetstorm is babe
Cons:
- No fun allowed - the maximals are really frustrating because we only ever see them being angry and fighting and a lot of them only show us their worst sides
- The maximal character models are HIDEOUS
- You may not actually like the philosophical aspect of the show, especially when you think too long about it and realise it’s kinda shit
Robots in Disguise 2001/ Car Robots (liked the show)
Pros:
- New continuity! New story, new take!
- Funny and lighthearted
- Cute characters
- Sky-Byte/Gel-Shark is babe
- Ultra Magnus/God Magnus is a fucking jerk and I love it
Cons:
- Sideburn/Speedbreaker’s gag about loving red sport cars and chasing after them - it’s played as a joke all the time but I can see that stuff making people uncomfortable when they see the female driver trying to get away from him and his catcalling (Apart from that I do like him a lot though)
Armada/Micron Densetsu (disliked the show)
Pros:
- Lots of feels between Megatron and Optimus
- Starscream's arc
- The ending arc
- Jetfire was babe
Cons:
- The pacing was unbearable
- Half the time the characters didn't act like people and I was confused about almost every conflict, action and point they made. It's not a great story when I watch episode and need an hour to figure what the hell the story even was
- The parts I liked in concept are not helped by how unnatural and weird the characters acted at times. I liked the ending, but how they got there was so weird that I just can't enjoy it
Energon/Superlink (loved the show)
Pros:
- Megatron/Galvatron - Everything about him
- The japanese voice acting was fantastic!
- Really nice death scenes (I love death scenes btw)
- Mirage/Shockfleet being in love with Megatron
- Bringing back old names apart from Megatron and Optimus
- Rodimus being an equal to Optimus was a nice touch
- The few scenes it was 2D animated
- Jetfire/Skyfire is babe
Cons:
- Animation
- The "for the toys" thing kinda ruined some characters, where instead of getting the toys as completely new characters, they killed old ones and brought them back with a new model. It did suck story-telling wise (and me, loving death scenes, get annoyed when a death scene gets ruined by bringing the character back). So you got all these character arcs that feel like the just stopped
Cybertron/Galaxy Force (loved the show with all my heart)
Pros:
- Love the setting and world with all the different colonies and how they were explored ~
- Optimus Prime, this one is my favourite version of him!
- Vector Prime, they should bring him back
- All the different leaders
- The friendship between the characters- this show has my favourite set of Autobots from all TF media
- This also has my favourite Mega&Star dynamic
- Starscream himself is so well done here!
- Jetfire/Dreadlock was babe
Cons:
- Megatron was lacklustre. When it came to him and his dynamics with other characters (apart from Starscream), he was hardly written as a person with feelings. He never reacts to anything happening within the ranks of Decepticons and it is really disappointing, because there was a lot of potential! (with Flame Convoy and Chromia specifically)
Animated (loved the show)
Pros:
- Character writing, plot and themes!
- Lighthearted tone but enough scenes that dig a little deeper
- Really nice and smooth animation
- Optimus is baby
Cons:
- The chins
- No 4th season
Prime (loved the show)
Pros:
- Best friggin fight scenes and animation in general
- Really exciting plot
- Ratchet is babe
Cons:
- Predacon Rising exists
- Characters dying for budget reasons (Just don’t hire celebrities when you cannot pay them for more?)
Robots in Disguise 2015 (it's okay)
Pros:
- ...the Stunticons are babe
Cons:
- characters never developing and learning the same shit over and over again
- almost no interesting villains
- even the interesting ones being shoved aside a lot
- no real built-up for the climax
- lots of filler and not enough time spent on the actual plot of a corrupt Cybertron goverment
Prime Wars Trilogy (loved the show with all my heart)
Pros:
- Megatron, everything about him, he’s babe
- I really like the soundtrack
Cons:
- Bad storytelling, both narrative and visual
- Horrible or mediocre voice acting
- Static and bad facial expressions
- Static and bad character animation
- Feels like no one involved in the production had any idea how to tell a story
Cyberverse (meh)
Pros:
- Really cute as fuck
- Big cast
- Astrotrain is babe
Cons:
- No time for character arcs, they just jump from set up to conclusion with nothing in-between
- Unfocused plot that jumps from one idea to another
- Megatron broke my heart and I hate him
