I hadn't ever seen (or noticed) this before until I saw it on the deleted scenes from the Avengers blu-ray.
It says he speaks Dari, which is the variety of the Persian language spoken in Afghanistan. Did he learn it while he was there? Yet it doesn't mention French, which we hear him speak in IM2. Of course he might have just picked that up for fun... Interesting stuff.

I like to think the only reason (besides the stupid editors deleting the scene where Rhodey demanded a search party) that Rhodey didn’t search for Tony when he was presumed dead in IM3 is because he was used to it. Like when he went missing in IM1, Rhodey was like, “oh no!!” but by the time we got to IM2 self destruction and Avengers’ wormhole sacrifice, Rhodey has learned Tony will never die and can pretty much rescue himself, and when he does, maybe Tony will finally share with him whatever post-near-death-experience snack he’s having.

So I'm actually very glad you came back, among many others I'm sure :D Esepecially because I recently saw a post by Sineala stating the difference between 616 vs MCU Steve and Tony, and she said people should ask someone else if they wanted to know about the MCU. So, I really wanted to ask you from your perspective what you think the difference is, because you seem to like MCU the most! This is the post.
sineala(.)tumblr(.)com/post/172540509139/whats-the-difference-between-tony-and-steve-from
Thank you and welcome back :DDD
oohh i know that post and i love that post 🤗 i learn so much about 616 from sineala, her fic and meta are more sacred to me than comic canon i'm so serious about that
i feel like i read the comics very chaotically and so most of my limited firsthand knowledge is very.. incidental. but if you're looking for someone who has spent too much of her time obsessing about every stevetony related detail in the mcu i am your girl <3
mcu steve makes me go *heart eyes* because even though he's very fighty and very stubborn (the core steve rogers traits across the multiverse), i think as a generalisation mcu steve is sadder and 616 steve tends to be angrier?? in my opinion he's gentler, quieter, more reserved and measured and forgiving than his 616 counterpart and that's one of the reasons he's so attractive to me because i think he's actually so soft!!
also- mcu steve did the best with the hand he was dealt but he did not at all have the support system that 616 steve when he came out of the ice :'( in the comics the avengers are the ones who find steve, but in the movies it's a group of shield agents who get a call from an oil team. the first thing that happens to mcu steve when he wakes up is that he gets lied to (shield puts him in that fake hospital room and tries to convince him it's still the 1940s to ""ease him in""), and then between waking up in 2011 and meeting the avengers in 2012, he's completely alone. there's an amazing deleted scene from a1 that shows steve wandering around new york by himself and his loneliness is palpable
i think this also relates to their ideas of home in the 21st century. 616 steve seems very sure about the fact that tony gave him a home, his home is with tony and the avengers, but mcu steve spends a long time searching for a place to call home. even in catws, when he's been in the 21st century for 3 years, he still has books stacked on the floor of his apartment and paintings he hasn't hung up yet. a year later in aou, sam asks if he's found a place in brooklyn yet, and steve says he doesn't think he could afford a place in brooklyn, and sam says "home is home" and steve sort of just stops smiling and goes quiet and looks away. the only place he calls home in the movies is avengers compound, once in aou when tony asks if he's alright and steve says "i'm home" and once in infinity war when sam asks where they're going and steve says "home" (referring again to the compound). and when the compound gets blown to bits in endgame, even that's gone
on the other hand mcu tony seems more well adjusted than 616 tony and that felt like a deliberate choice based on the scenes that didn't make it into the movie. for example ,there's a deleted scene from im1 where pepper finds tony on the floor the morning after a party, drinking in his iron man suit and he's bleeding and there's a wisp of smoke coming from his armour and he is clearly not doing well, and an alternative opening scene for im2 that they didn't use where tony is vomiting and altogether freaking out a little bit before the stark expo
tony's alcoholism and sobriety is an important part of his 616 character, and there's the birthday party scene in im2 where tony gets drunk to cope with the fact that he's dying, but other than that and mysterio casually calling tony a "boozy man-child" in spiderman ffh, it's not really part of his mcu character
there's also the childhood trauma he has from howard, 616 howard was horribly abusive!!!!! a lot of people dislike mcu howard for not showing tony affection growing up etc, but the mcu portrays that father-son relationship in a more complicated light so you do see people split over tony forgiving him in the end. for example tony invents the new element in im2 with the help of howard's old tapes and notes and goes "dead for almost 20 years and still taking me to school," tony tells steve "my father made that shield" "he made it for you," and there's the full on reconciliation scene tony has with howard in endgame (also we get to see young howard stark in catfa and agent carter and he is honestly so likeable there, which still confuses me to this day but anyway)
and in the comics tony sees himself as more separate from iron man, hence the secret identity, and it feels like he sees iron man as his repentance and as having only his good qualities, someone he wishes he could be? but they tossed that right out at the end of im1 when tony literally says "i am iron man," which was a very clear rejection of the identity-crisis component of his 616 character, and they drive it home again when it's his last line in endgame. i think mcu tony sees iron man as an almost inextricable part of himself which i really love about him, and it makes sense because 616 tony hates himself so much more than mcu tony does ;_;
in terms of steve and tony's relationship, they have such a long history of friendship in the comics which makes the civil war arc hurt more but i feel like they always have that friendship as a bedrock to keep building and rebuilding their relationship on, whereas in the mcu they get off on the wrong foot and tiptoe around a very fragile relationship/disproportionately deep feelings for a few years but don't trust each other enough for a long time and that's the reason their civil war happens, and it's only at the end of their canon that they resolve it and really come together
there's also the romantic relationships- they both have several significant love interests in the comics but just one true love in the movies, it's always been peggy for steve and pepper for tony, but i think that's more due to the nature of the mcu being one movie canon and 616 spanning so many more years and going through so many more writers
now i'm just rambling but they shifted a lot of the characters around in steve's life as well, like the role sharon plays in the comics is diluted in the movies and peggy and natasha are the two most important women in his life instead because they're the ones who give him that support and guidance. also mcu stevebucky doesn't really exist in the same way in the comics because they didn't grow up childhood friends with bucky being protective over steve, they met in the military and bucky is a few years younger than steve in the comics, so steve was a mentor to him

What do you think about the personality (character) of Howard Stark (young)? At what point did he become a serious prude?
I can't think of any evidence to suggest he has ever become a serious prude anon so idk where you're getting that from.
Are you perhaps getting him mixed up with another character?? 🤷‍♀️
I have big meta on him I did recently:
HERE
And you can find other meta about him round about this tag.
.
Cliff notes:
a creep (took indecent photos of women without consent)
a serial liar (too many to list!)
a greedy ruthless thief (AC, IM2).
friends with Hydra/Nazis and similar (IM1, AOU, EG, AM1).
'invents' horrific weapons and stockpiles them (AC)
knew about Bucky and didn't help him, both in main timeline and other universes (CACW, WI.)
also a bad father by the way Jr describes him (IM2).
Tries to paint his relationship to Steve in a better light than it really had in CATFA.
(IDK why this guy looked sad in the boat at the end; he's the guy sneering that a transponder is more trustworthy than Steve, questioning whether they should believe what Steve says about tesseract energy (in front of Steve's boss), sneering about Steve to his assistants / behind his back, etc. Didn't show up for the Valkyrie mission when everyone else was going (suspicious). He and Steve only spoke directly on 2 days total (not counting the 3 occasions he addressed a group Steve was part of), 3 if you include the deleted scene. And most of it was talking shit about him, even to his face. He was not nice to Steve. He was barely civil. Explains why Steve wasn't enthusiastic about Jr. tho... 🤔)
Apparently made shit up about Steve and Peggy (to make it sound as if they were both more important to the Great Captain America??) and passed it into his Butler. (What he describes of their relationship not only isn't true but isn't physically possible given the timeframe and the plot of CATFA wouldn't function if it were true. Meta on that here.)
.
TL;DR: What do I think of him? As I said in the other ask: not much.

If I'm not mistaken, in that deleted post-credits scene where we see Tony's SHIELD file, it says there that he speaks Italian. In IM2, he insists on going to Venice. I honestly have it as a personal headcanon that Maria Stark is descendent of Italians and was fluent in Italian and taught Tony how to speak it, making him fluent as well, and also I bet he has a vacation house in Italy inherited from Maria. Now the best part of the hc: him calling you sweet nicknames in ITALIAN
Oh my good God!
Why haven’t I thought about this before?!
If anybody is familiar with these nicknames, please do share them here or in my inbox! I would LOVE to include them in upcoming fics.
Tony Stark speaking in a different tongue is a MOOOOD.

yess lets hear the im2 natasha hc
OKAY SO from a deleted scene from Black Widow the Budapest incident, a.k.a. Natasha's defection from the Red Room, occurred eight years prior to CACW/BW -- in other words, in 2008. IM1 also takes place in 2008, and because it greatly amuses me I headcanon that the end of IM1 (the Tony and Stane fight, since IM1 takes place over a period of months) took place immediately after the Budapest incident, which means that Nick Fury got back to the Triskelion with Budapest on fire and the Black Widow that Clint Barton talked into defecting and who now he has to rehabilitate going "okay, fine, now I can relax," and then got a call from Coulson going "boss, you won't BELIEVE what just happened."
After some finagling (I don't care what the official dates are) to get IM2, Thor 1, and TIH to all take place during the same week (which canon says they did), I have tentatively placed them in fall 2010. (Trying to get the Phase 1 dates to line up is a nightmare because they've all been retconned so many times.) This assumes that the "six months later" marker at the beginning of IM2 is just when Vanko Sr. dies and there's a longer time span between that and when Tony goes up in front of the Senate subcommittee and the rest of the movie occurs, and it assumes that when Fury says "last year" to Thor in Avengers he actually means longer than a year, but this is not exactly the worst timeline sin that the MCU has ever committed, it just has a lot of moving parts.
So here is my IM2 Natasha headcanon: this is her first undercover mission since she joined SHIELD. She has been doing ops for SHIELD since she joined, but it's all been relatively straightforward "go kill this dude" / "protect this other dude" stuff, and probably for the first year she was running those ops with Clint specifically. (The Winter Soldier run-in near Odessa that she refers to in TWS would have been in 2009 -- it could have been one of her earliest solo ops.) Fury puts her undercover with SI and Tony because he's curious to see if she can pull it off and also if she can deal with Tony Stark without murdering him then she's definitely been rehabilitated. Also if she can deal with the lingerie photoshoot she had to do for that without murdering anyone. Natasha succeeded, she did not have a good time, but she passed the last of Nick Fury's tests in the process.
(I had Natasha say this in Yonder, but I think she doesn't enjoy doing undercover work, and when she went to SHIELD she was hoping a little that she'd be out of that. The Battle of New York was an eye-opener for her with the realization that she didn't have to and in fact she liked not doing stuff alone in the dark.)

Have you ever seen The Godfather saga rearranged for tv for the 40th anniversary? The story is in cronological order and there are all the cut scene inside the movie. Plus Michael's kiss with Apollonia is from another point of view due to censorship (Happy Birthday a few days late: https://im2.ezgif.com/tmp/ezgif-2-94b58abf9d.gif). It's really hard to find, 'couse there are no DVD version. The story itself is clearer but the film loses some of its art, in my opinion. Still worth it.
Ooh, no I don’t think I have! 😳 I wasn’t even aware there was a 40th anniversary edition unless it went by a different name. But thank you. 😂❤️✨ I’m not too surprised surprised by the censorship part either. When my hyper fixation was just starting one very fine day💀 I was watching it on TV while on vacation and the scene of Michael and Apollonia was edited/cut in a way that Michael approached her, they exchanged some looks, then they embraced (so no NSFW), there was also no Sonny and Lucy having a heated moment in the bathroom towards the beginning as well.
Tbh I think there’s too many cuts of TGF… 😅 I don’t know anybody whose watched all 3+ hours with the deleted scenes in it and went “yeah, this should have been cut. Meh.” Because the story and everything in it is so fucking good. Francis didn’t need to make anything more clear and I heard (not sure if this is true) that James Caan was upset because 40 minutes worth or so of footage with him in it was cut. I would gladly watch every and any scene, no need to cut anything!! ❤️ With films like that, THE MORE, THE MERRIER! 😭

Proof that Tony Stark is not an extravert
Tumblr media
Well, I’d bet it’s better results than one could get on YouTube, Twitter, or Reddit, but come on.
I’m going to show you why MCU Tony is certainly not an extravert.
I've already posted some stuff, such as:
Absent-minded Tony
Socially awkward Tony
As you can see, Tony has some issues that hint to us that he’s not always present or outgoing. And now it’s time to gather all these and other things and summarize our findings.
Extraversion: Large social network & Thrive in teams, crowds vs Introversion: Value 1:1 friendships & Favor independence
Tony no doubt knows a lot of people. Because he ran a huge technological company, right. Business partners, military officers, politicians, SHIELD agents, journalists, his staff, etc. Although this doesn’t mean that he communicates with many people regularly, or has many friends. And we know he doesn’t. He never had many friends. Throughout the Infinity Saga, he made a few, like Pepper and Happy. But before IM2 his only friends were Rhodey, J.A.R.V.I.S., and his bots.
He mostly interacted with AIs and robots, especially in his solo movies. This tells us something, doesn’t it? I’ll write a separate post about his childhood, but it is obvious that he was always an outcast: in school, college, before the Avengers, within the Avengers… We don’t really see him as a “gear” in this mechanism. He is most often steps ahead of others or steps aside. None of the Avengers were really his friends, and I’ll write about that too in the future.
Did he try to make more friends? He seemed to think some of the Avengers were. He thought Steve was. Remember this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or Bruce. But Bruce didn't even want to listen to him when Tony needed help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he left him at the end of AoU. But Tony thought he was a friend. Moreover, he considered them all his family.
That’s what he was doing – everyone around him, from assistants to teammates, were considered friends and family members and were treated accordingly. He needed that, not a large social network of "pals" and "buddies" he barely knows.
Let’s illustrate how he felt about people around him:
Deleted scene "Dubai Party" from IM (2008)
Tumblr media
Tony doesn’t really talk to those people. He doesn't feel comfortable shaking their hands or taking anything from them. That's not why he's here, it's an alibi for the mission in Afghanistan. And we see that all this causes him disgust and discomfort.
The Charity Ball - IM (2008)
Tumblr media
And boom - he doesn't know that Christina is talking about Jericho, which Stein sold to the Ten Rings. He thinks she is referring to this event. And he (surprisingly) reveals that he actually has social anxiety. That doesn't sound like an extrovert to me.
Alternate Opening from IM2 shows us Tony, who is trying to avoid going on some kind of dangerous mission. And then we find out that that mission is actually the Expo Opening. He doesn’t look excited that he has to go to the crowd, doesn’t he?
Tumblr media
After that, he makes his way through the crowd of fans, communicating with virtually no one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the Senate hearing, he seems bored. He doesn’t pay much attention to the politicians, asking Pepper about chili, hacking networks, and making fun of Senator Stern.
Tumblr media
After he’s done with Hammer and Stern he shows his public mask to others. We know he is not comfortable with this situation, but he has to deal with it.
At the party "Natalie wears the gauntlet" deleted scene from IM2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what Tony really thinks about these people. He doesn’t like them, doesn’t like this lifestyle. He didn’t want this party in the first place. He doesn’t even understand celebrating birthdays ("The Sub-Orbital Jet" deleted scene, IM2).
Tumblr media
Sounds very introvert-like to me.
He wears sunglasses in public. Because he is uncomfortable when people see his eyes - they cannot hide from them what he wants to hide. And that brings us to the next trait…
Extraversion: Enjoy being a center of attention vs Introversion: Avoid being a center of attention
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He hides behind sunglasses. Most of the time, he only shows his mask to people he considers strangers. When he's the center of attention, it's his mask, not the real Tony.
The real Tony refused to be the commander of the Avengers, despite being their benefactor and providing them with everything. The real Tony didn't go to important public events on behalf of the team, Natasha (WS and CW) did. The real Tony left the Avengers at his Compound and went to live with his family in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. And, again, we can recall what he said about his birthday and parties in general.
Extraversion: Think out loud vs Introversion: Think before speaking
Tony is not the guy who shares his thoughts with others. He thinks a lot. And he hides most of it from others.
Does he always think before speaking? No, not at all. But that’s his goofy personality, not extraversion.
Extraversion: Energize around people & seek greater stimulation vs Introversion: Recharge, reflect in quiet & Seek less stimulation
As we can see, Tony is not that much of a people person. He avoids gatherings when he can, and doesn’t enjoy them when he can’t. Most of the time he spends in his workshop/lab with his AIs, bots, and sometimes with Bruce, with occasional visits from Pepper and Rhodey. And he is comfortable in this environment.
With the Avengers he doesn’t act like an energy battery. Instead, he is quiet, calm, and just minds his own business. Look at the scenes from AoU:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the party he doesn't talk to many people, we see him in a small group of Thor and Maria Hill, and he is, again, pretty quiet.
Tumblr media
In Endgame he lives with just his wife, daughter, chickens, and Gerald the alpaca in a cabin, far from other people and their noise. He has nature around, a big fireplace, and paper books to read by it. This is his happiness. An introvert's dream.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: all the extraversion we see in Tony came from his business training that started when he was a kid. He had to develop a set of skills: communicating with many people, participating in gatherings, selling stuff, running a company, dealing with journalists and politicians. He became the owner of a huge business when he was only 21 years old. Of course, he has skills formed by decades of experience. But we see he doesn’t enjoy doing all this stuff. This is not his comfort zone. His comfort zone is his lab and a few close friends. It's hard to tell from the masks he wears and his skills whether he's an introvert or an ambivert who tends to be introverted, but he's definitely not an extravert.
P.S. This is not a 100% comprehensive review of everything I've seen in the movies. There are many more examples of his introversion in the MCU. But this post is already huge, so if you would like to see more about it – let me know in the comments and I’ll make more detailed posts about each trait.

Iron Man 2 AU (but I like to make believe that this is just a deleted scene...)
Takes place after Tony’s meeting with Fury, after the “Not recommended” report; he drives off and takes the long way back to Randy’s Donuts where Natasha is seated at a booth, casually perusing a menu. He comes in and sits down opposite her.
"So... you told Fury I wasn't eligible for the Initiative?"
"Yes."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome. But I hope you'll reconsider: the Initiative needs you."
"No... it only needs Iron Man. Did I not make myself clear enough, Romanov?"
"Clear as crystal, my dear. But I meant what I said, Stark: this big idea of Fury's is ambitious but it can work... with your cooperation."
"Well, my audition should put him off."
"Don't underestimate him. He already knows you staged that 'party'."
"Yeah, well, I have some friends who don't, so I'd really appreciate it if you made this all worth it and don't ever let that fact slip."
"Your sanity will stay our little secret."
"It better. Now, where are you off to from here?"
"I'm... in no hurry to be anywhere."
"Then... would it be too presumptuous of me to offer to buy you coffee?"
"No; no, it wouldn't be."
