NRC School Newspaper: A Birthday Interview with Ryker Crowley

Happy birthday!

Thank you! I gotta say that this has been one of my best birthdays so far! I love how NRC celebrates birthdays, and since we had one yesterday, it's like one very long party.

That's right, we celebrated Riddle's birthday yesterday.

Yup! Me and Riddle are pretty similar in a lot of ways. Aside from our birthday's being one day apart, we're also the same height, and even some of our personality. I'm a big rule follower and pretty strict when it comes to my school work and grades too.

Are you two close?

Well I'm a Heartslabyul student and he's my dorm leader, so we see each other often. I'd say we get along pretty well, but I wouldn't consider us close.

Who are you close with?

I get along really well with Ruggie, Silver, and Idia. I'd consider them pretty close friends. Ruggie is always fun to do practically anything with, even if it's working jobs, he can make it fun. Silver is really easy to talk to and fun to hang around with. He's the kind of friend I know I can always count on. Idia is the one that I spend most of my time with tho. It's not intentional, but when you're playing your favorite game or watching your favorite anime, you tend to lose track of time.

What are your favorite games and animes?

Some of my favorite games are Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Pokemon, and Stardew Valley. As for anime...my favorite has to be One Piece. It's a very long one, and I'm not done yet, but I love it. I also like Black Butler, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Death Note.

Do you have any dreams for the future?

I want to become an author. I love writing so much, and I'm even taking writing college classes right now. I have a bunch of short stories that I've written and debated creating a separate blog for, but I'm unsure if anyone would even care about it. But I also have an idea for a book I want to write, so completing and publishing that would be my ultimate goal.

Speaking of your writing, how is your blog doing?

It's doing great! I say it often, but I never imagined I'd get as much support as I did. I'm really grateful to all of my followers who give me feedback and requests. I really love seeing their comments and responding. Hearing their thoughts, what they want more of, and interacting with them always makes me happy!

What's your most popular series?

Definitely my broken sibling relationship series. I'm honestly surprised how much everyone loves the angst. It started with Vil after a slight mention that I had an idea for how it could go wrong, but people keep wanting more. Those take a little bit longer to write than most requests, but I always love doing it.

Considering you've written so much sibling angst, if you had to choose someone at NRC to be your sibling, who would it be?

Oh man. That's a pretty tough decision, but I think I would have to say Malleus. He's pretty lonely most of the time, but I think if he had a sibling, he would be a bit happier. I firmly believe that Malleus would treat his sibling very well. Plus, I think growing up with him would've been very fun. I would've loved to be a part of Malleus' family.

Do you consider anyone in Twisted Wonderland your family?

I've accepted Crowley as my bird dad. I know most people wouldn't, but I do.

How are you enjoying Twisted Wonderland?

I love it! I've been playing for a little over a year now. I originally came to Twisted Wonderland through Obey Me, but I play more Twisted Wonderland now. I'm a proud owner of 25 SSR cards, and love the story. My favorite characters have to be Sebek, Leona, and Silver.

What are you talking about?

Don't worry about it.

Uh, okay. Can you tell us about your clothing style?

Sure! It varies from day to day depending of if I'm feeling more feminine or masculine, but lately I've been wearing a lot of Hawaiian shirts. My friend @l1ttleclouds actually made me an aesthetic board for my normal style. Take a look!

Nice! Are there any fun facts about you that most people don't know?

I always have trouble coming up with fun facts, especially ones that most people don't know. So I decided to come up with a few that people may or may not know; I love horror, I have a few succulents, and my eyes have two different colors. To clarify that last one, my eyes aren't two different colors, but each eye has two colors in it. Not mixed together, but separated. So about half of each iris is green, and half is brown. Fun!

WELCOME TO THE APOCALYPSE

Welp, here we are gang. Seems worth doing a real introduction even though this account has existed for a couple of weeks now. Glad some of our friends from the cursed bird app are already finding us, but for the uninitiated...

Live From The Apocalypse is not-for-profit TTRPG studio; a collective of over 15 talented players, GMs, and content creators who record, stream, edit, and produce hours of free actual play content, discussions, and interviews focusing on tabletop role-playing games and the community around them each week—all while raising money for progressive causes and good organizations. Everything we do benefits a nonprofit or aid organization exclusively, even merch sales and Patreon support exclusively keeps the lights on and covers operational costs. Since we started doing this we've raised well over $20,000 for organizations like Planned Parenthood, the International Rescue Committee, Communities United Against Police Brutality, Extra Life, and many more!

As for our games, we have six livestreamed actual play campaigns going at any given time over on our Twitch channel:

Veil Breakers [D&D 5E]: We've all heard stories of heroes preventing the end of the world, but what if they failed? What if they died? And what if they got a second chance? Veil Breakers is a 5E homebrew adventure across the veil of death, set in the world of the Forgotten Realms.

Academy H [Masks]: A Powered By the Apocalypse game following four new students at the Brandt Academy, the world's foremost school for superpowered individuals, in a collaboratively-created setting with over 70 years of history. Academy H streams are the live recording sessions for the podcast, which you can find fully edited on your podcast platform of choice!

Missing Numbers [Pokeymanz]: A sports anime-inspired Pokemon game about a failing gym and the trainers trying to restore it to its former glory, with just a dash of eldritch horror thrown in for good measure.

Class Reunion [D&D 5E]: 10 years ago 4 high school students from Avalon, Ohio were trapped in our homebrew D&D 5E setting, the magical world of Annwn. Now, reunited after a decade, the time has come to discover what brought them there in the first place.

And on Wednesdays you can find our short-form series of games known as Wild Card Wednesdays, which features a rotating cast of GMs and players. We also make podcasts which are available on your podcast platform of choice under the banner Live From The Apodcalypse! We currently have three shows there: the fully-edited and soundscaped version of our Masks campaign Academy H, our TTRPG talk show Table Talk-alypse, and we're currently releasing our freshman attempt at content creation recorded back during the height of the pandemic: a Monster of the Week game called Cryptid Community College.

Friede ended up following Spinel's Rarecoil and was ambushed. I like that Friede brings up the fact that the way Rarecoil moves shows that it's not a wild Pokemon. He really is observant (and he is a Pokemon Professor after all, so it's nice to see his knowledge come out in moments like that).

Honestly, the whole scene and battle were so good. Friede's slow realization that he fell in a trap, Friede turning around and looking everywhere showing that he is not his cool self anymore and that he is panicking, the shot of Friede looking "trapped" by the window and appearing small showing that he is just a pawn in this game, Friede facing an unknown threat that he cannot see... He felt very different from usual. The whole direction for this succession of moments was great. I loved it!

Friede turns the battle around with Terastal, but even though he gained the advantage, Spinel's Pokemon teleported away and went back to their trainer and Friede still ends up with no idea of who he just faced, so he can't exactly call it a victory. I absolutely love the fact that Friede calls out to Spinel, saying that he is done playing hide-and-seek and telling him to come out but Spinel just doesn't fall for provocation. I like that they aren't forcing Spinel to show himself just because, especially since it would be detrimental to his plan. His whole thing is subterfuge and he won't reveal his identity if he doesn't need to. I'm reminded of HZ003 and how Friede cut his battle with Amethio short after Liko managed to free Nyahoja and fled away. He didn't stick around to finish the battle once he did what he had to do, which was buying time for Liko to find Nyahoja. It's one thing I enjoy about this series, honestly. Not forcing battles to finish for the sake of it, allowing characters to escape as a valid alternative (be it protagonists or antagonists)... I do wonder if Friede will meet Spinel eventually, though! It's interesting that Friede probably considered the fact that this threat was coming from the Explorers but he didn't bring up Amethio (he probably knows after facing him several times that this whole situation isn't something Amethio would do, as he is much more straightforward).

Also, I just overall love Spinel. The way his VA delivered his lines in this scene was wonderful. I feel like Spinel probably wanted to gauge Friede's strength since he says that he's seen all he needed to see. He even managed to make Friede use Terastal so he knows he has this trump card too now.

Hello Rotomblr! I’m Professor Reina Maple, and this blog is a joint account between myself and my wife, Professor Mari Cedar. It will mostly be me posting on here, however, as Mari doesn’t particularly care for social media. We’re based in Nacrene City of the Unova region, and have a lab just outside of the city, in the outskirts of Pinwheel Forest. Feel free to ask us any questions you may have!

Our daughter Vivi convinced us (me) that making an account here would help with networking. She logs her adventures here and has gotten some rather useful information from people. Her username is @vivid-mandrake I believe?

I’ll do personal introductions here, and then talk about our teams below the cut!

As mentioned above, my name is Reina Kondo Maple, and I am an immigrant to Unova from Johto. I grew up in Azalea Town, where my family lived for… quite a few generations. I have a sister who lives there still. My research focuses on the ways that pokemon adapt to different climates, status conditions, and other external factors. My Trainer Card is attached below. Also, Vivi told me about ‘signatures’ that people often do with emojis, so I will use “🍁” to signify that it is me speaking and not Mari.

Uhhh Reina says I’ve gotta introduce myself? For the rotumble or whatever she’s doing? So I’m Mari Cedar, and I’m Unovan, born ‘n raised. I grew up in Nacrene City and took a liking to the native pokemon, so I’ve been researching pokemon migration patterns and how they can affect local wildlife. I also much prefer learning about pokemon in a hands-on way out in the field, so I let Reina do most of the lab work. I also study pokemon behavior fairly extensively, and my pet project is a rewrite of the pokedex given to kids when they start their journey. I hope to travel and work on this more extensively in the future. Also, according to Vivi, my passion about inaccurate pokedex entries has done numbers on here? Anyhow, I’ll sign off with -🌊 whenever i have time to be on the account. Here’s my Trainer Card.

🍁’s Pokemon:

My starter is a Slowking named Daryl. I caught him in the Slowpoke Well when I was 10, and he’s been my closest companion ever since. He is very intelligent and checks behind me in the lab to make sure that I don’t mess anything up. He understands spoken Johtoan and Unovan, and can communicate telepathically in Johtoan. I’m currently teaching him how to write so that he can help check my numbers and records as well. He gives surprisingly good life advice.

One of the first pokemon that I caught back when I was on my journey was Jenna the Bellossom. She’s very sweet and laid-back. She spends most of her time relaxing in the garden and coming up with new dance routines. When we need her to help with lab work, though, she’s able to put wild pokemon to sleep so that we can transport them or get away from them with minimal harm.

The last of my original teammates is Edward the Espeon. I received him from the kind daycare couple when he was an Eevee. Apparently some trainer had left him there and never picked him back up. Despite that, he’s a very kind and affectionate pokemon. He used to be trouble, but he’s settled down some with age. He isn’t trained or registered as a service pokemon, but he helps quite a bit with my anxiety problems. He is also bonded with Mari’s Cincinno, and they’re an adorable couple.

My last pokemon that I have presently is Nokoribi the Ninetales. She has been in the Kondo family for the past 357 years, and was given to me when my mother passed away. Despite the reputation that Ninetales have of being majestic and wise, Nokoribi is much more like a young Growlithe. One of her favorite activities is trying to eat plastic. She does have her majestic moments from time to time though.

🌊’s Pokemon:

My starter’s a Seismitoad named Foggy. I caught him right outside of town when he was a Tympole. He’s a more stoic sort of ‘mon, but it’s just because he shows his affection differently. He ‘works’ as a security guard around the lab, making sure wild pokemon don’t set up shop too close by.

Pretty soon after I caught Foggy, I met Missy the Cincinno. She’s a real stickler for cleanliness and has always made sure I keep myself straight (heh). Now, she’s in charge of storage and tidiness in the lab spaces, and she couldn’t be happier with that job. She can be sorta overbearing when you do something ‘wrong,’ but it comes from a good place. She’s bonded with Reina’s Espeon, Edward, and they’re one of the cutest couples you’ll ever see. They balance each other out.

Back between my seventh and eighth gym badge, my father got me Seashell the Floatzel while he was on some business trip in Sinnoh. I’m not the biggest fan of her origins (and don’t ask me about them), but she’s an important part of my team. She’s a very laid-back sort of pokemon, but when she has a job to do, she takes it very seriously. She used to do scout work for me and Helena, but now she just makes sure that the populations we’re studying aren’t going to become hostile. From what I hear, the Pinwheel Rangers are big fans of hers, and she works with them when she gets bored.

More recently, I took Evergreen the Haxorus (Fraxure back then) off the hands of a shelter that couldn’t take care of her. She broke one of her tusks as a Fraxure, which caused a lot of behavioral issues and hostility. But, after a few years of TLC, she’s nearly as relaxed as Seashell. She helps with ‘security’ alongside Foggy, or whenever he’s off doing something else. She also made a surprisingly good babysitter when Vivi was younger.

Pokemon Card of the Day #2815: Meganium (Neo Genesis #11)

There were two Meganium cards in the Neo Genesis set, and just like Feraligatr, only one was worth much. The power here wasn’t going to be the reason to play Meganium, but that Pokemon Power... That was something special. Being able to double the Energy attached to certain Pokemon would make powering things up much quicker at a time with a lot of high Energy costs. There were issues to get around, including being a bit clunky to use with a lot of the earlier Grass-types to pair with also being Stage 2 and the fact that Metal-types and Muk were huge problems, but the upside was so good that it would only be a matter of time before something involving Meganium had to work out.

100 HP was a pretty solid number. While by no means rare on a Stage 2, it did make sure that only a few attacks would KO quickly, and if up against something like a Kingdra or Dark Gengar it might be sticking around for quite a while. The Fire Weakness was quite notable, especially against Magcargo. Having a Weakness to one of the best attackers available was going to be a major problem for sure. The Retreat Cost was also quite high, at 3 Energy, though Wild Growth functionally knocked that down to 2. You’d still want Warp Point or Switch, depending on the format, if you could fit it. That wasn’t always going to fit, however, so you’d just have to put up with it sometimes.

Wild Growth was the entire reason to use Meganium. The Pokemon Power worked as long as Meganium was in play and made sure that each Grass Energy attached to your Grass-type Pokemon provided 2 Grass Energy instead. This made even the most expensive attacks cost just 2 Energy. One issue was that trying to build around this could be tough, with Venusaur and Meganium being pretty clunky to build around (but powerful if set up), and Crobat not being the best partner since Meganium messed up the free retreating deck idea. Meganium did come into its own in Neo-On, as Wild Growth paired very nicely with Exeggutor from Aquapolis to target down Benched Pokemon, getting around the nasty Grass Resistances of both Scizor and Steelix and making Baby Pokemon a serious liability.

Soothing Scent was just 40 damage for 4 Grass Energy, but you were Meganium so that was really 2 Energy. This was reasonable, especially since you put the Defending Pokemon to Sleep, and you could get a Prize off a Dark Feraligatr if Rocket’s Hideout wasn’t in play.

Meganium was a pretty decent Pokemon, being able to duplicate Energy for a variety of Pokemon. It didn’t catch on too much in Rocket-On with any deck with it needing so much set-up, but when it worked it could go off. Neo-On was better for it despite Scizor, Muk, and Magcargo all being huge problems because Exeggutor was about as good of a partner as you could get from it. If you could avoid Muk you typically had a solid chance, and Meganium was a mid-tier competitive option at that point in the game.

ok this is a fun one!! lemme go one at a time

Emery- (Delphox, Ninetales, Heliolisk, Volcarona, Lilligant, Espeon)

emi has a sun team! Fennekin is their starter, they love fire types and they just found it really cute (among some other reasons! it has a rlly affectionate personality yet little bit of a mischievous streak, and they just fell in love). they have some other members of their team that Don't Make It (spoilers) that aren't mentioned here as well-- this is just their final team. they prefer Fire-types but they're pretty largely sun-themed as a character and their team reflects that!

Rowan- (Gardevoir, Umbreon, Absol, Delphox, Meowstic-M, Thievul)

they're the opposite end of the spectrum as Emi-- largely moon-inspired. they specialize mainly in psychic and dark although they aren't a specialist for those types by any means, it just kind of happened to shake out that way for them. their starter was Also Fennekin (which comes in handy when they're hitchhiking with Emi when she picks a starter) and they have a really strong bond as they've been together for so long. Absol is probably her signature mon though, just as it's the one she uses most often/Mega Evolves.

Soleil- (Primarina, Mimikyu, Sylveon, Gengar, Togekiss, Rotom)

they're a ghost/fairy specialist! they actually originated when a friend and I picked dual monotypes for each other to do in a monorun and I decided to make an OC out of it. they're rather fond of ghosts as they love history, and ghost-type Pokemon tend to hang around those kinds of historical sites. they also found that ghosts were often pretty friendly to her and tended to be misunderstood, so she took a liking to them. fairies they just really like. it started when their Eevee evolved unintentionally into a Sylveon-- they just loved it at first sight.

Lyra- (Minior, Cosmog, Clefable, Beheeyem, Starmie, Musharna, Deoxys)

lyra actually originated just because I'm a really big sucker for space and galaxy themes and wanted to design an OC based on that! there's a lot of interesting space/alien/star-aligned Pokemon, so their team is based on that. they're also primarily a reserve psychic leader, so Minior and Clefable usually act as wild cards during battles. Deoxys and Cosmog xe don't get until postgame, and Cosmog eventually evolves into a Lunala (although it's just a Cosmog for a pretty long time because they don't fight with it and xe thinks it's Too Dang Cute).

Niko- (Rotom, Hoopa, Noivern, Zoroark, Polteageist, Toxtricity)

his team is largely based around theme of electricity and sound and his arcade theme rather than any one type! Noibat -> Noivern was a gift from Arc, and they often fix machinery in the nightclub together with their Rotom. Zoroark comes in handy when they have to disguise themself when going down to Seventh with Arc, and Toxtricity helps with the music in the club obviously. she has the same kinda mischievous personality as Hoopa, so that's totally something she'd pick up in postgame.

Shira- (Gardevoir, Sylveon, Ribombee, Alolan-Muk, Salazzle, Roserade)

shira's team has undergone a few changes since I usually update my OCs in either design or lore a decent amount, lmao-- they're largely a poison and fairy specialist now. eevee was their first Pokemon, and they barely knew anything about Pokemon at the time, so she didn't have any special stones or know about any specific evolution conditions for it, so it ended up evolving into Sylveon due to their high levels of friendship and it happened to know Baby-Doll Eyes (Shira is not immune to the puppy eyes). Gardevoir was a gift from Soren, who has Gallade-- while Roserade was a gift from Ace and Taka.

Soren- (Silvally, Porygon-Z, Gallade, Delphox, Rotom, Froslass)

their team is more based specifically on technology as it's their specialty, with a few exceptions-- Snorunt was their starter, but Type:Null is their signature mon. they ended up finding Null abandoned and hurt before they joined meteor and attempted to heal it back to health-- it just started following them around after that. Gallade is a counterpart specifically to Shira's Gardevoir, while Delphox was a gift from Ace. they're originally from Ametrine, so that's where they ended up finding Snorunt as their first Pokemon within the mountains :>

as for nicknames, I like it when characters nickname Pokemon, and it's in character for every one of my OCs-- just for different reasons-- so they do all nickname their team members as well. let me know if you're curious about those, I just didn't want to make the post too long :>

In honor of Murdy's first birthday tomorrow I'm gonna info dump about my oc's. Yolo. Long post ahead lol feel free to scroll past 😅

Oldest sibling on the left is 31 yr old Murdy Pine of course they are a lil wild card energetic and obnoxious pansexual nonbinary he/they and acts like the youngest. Gets into A LOT of trouble. Always seems to have new clothes and buys people things for them but neither Zed or Mo have any idea what Murdy does for a living. He disappears a lot and comes back suspiciously overly cheerful. Has a concerning neck scar and missing part of his left ear and they come up with a different ridiculous story about what happened everytime it comes up. The last story he told he said he he lost his ear during a poker game with one of the k*ardashian's bodyguards. Murdy got "caught cheating" and the guy lost it and "went all mike tyson on my ass." No one believes them.

Murdy's younger brother is Zed Pine in the pic in the middle. He is an Edgelord. Angsty little 26 yr old. He is really athletic and loves to play sports but he is also not social or extroverted at all but for some reason attracts jocky social butterfly dude bros all the time? He goes to the gym and everyone there loves him even tho he barely says anything to them? He has been adopted by his entire local gym and he doesnt know what to do about it Murdy help him please. He also is an insomniac and seems like he never sleeps and is a long suffering younger brother to a ball of chaos named Murdy Pine. He's also asexual or demisexual he doesn't know all he knows is he can't be bothered with all that but sometimes the guys at the gym look sorta nice to him physically? Maybe? Meh. Whatever. *pulls his pokemon game out and ignores you*

Mo Pine in the drawing on the right is their younger cousin she's 17 and she tries hard to be a tough person but is such a cinnamon roll underneath. She is like Murdy and Zeds unnofficial little sister even though she's always the one telling Murdy to drink some freakin water and Zed to go THE HELL TO SLEEP Or she'll kick their asses which they know she never will because she learned that she can't throw a punch to save her life. She's not allowed to cook because she'll set the kitchen on fire. She is clumsy on her feet and can and will trip and fall on literally nothing. The ground loves her. She's tired of skinning her hands from falling so. The gloves. Also she's probably not gay right? Murdy always makes hints about it and she's not dumb she knows what they are getting at but like... Yesterday this girl at the Cafe winked at her and Mo ran into a table and knocked the napkin dispenser off and she was so embarrassed she couldn't look at cafe girl but thats just probably because she's clumsy and embarassed herself and not because that girl had the cutest freckles and made her stomach flip and... well it's whatever.

They all are very close and would die for each other but they all also bug each other so much and would not hesitate to tackle one another to the ground at a moments notice. Classic sibling behavior. Mo and Zed think Murdy is secretly an assassin or a spy or something and they get together once a week and play videos games and talk about what the hell Murdy DOES for a living. There is a folder they've been filling up. It's their project.

Murdy likes to plan surprise birthday parties for Mo and Zed at the most batshit times of the year no where NEAR thier birthdays and even if it's weird and out of nowhere they are always THE BEST PARTIES EVER.

A classmate made fun of Mo for falling going up the stairs at her school and she acted like it didn't hurt her feelings but it did and Murdy was furious. The next day the stairs were missing like completely torn out and the girl who made fun of her was hysterical saying that there was an entire giant pile of destroyed crumbled cement in her living room this morning and her parents were furious and confused and called the police but no one knows how it got there at all still and the school is working on fixing the stairs immediately because they also got an anonymous envelope with a pineapple sticker on it with a donation of money to fix the stairs and a note that said "sorry got a little upset and carried away. Kowabunga brother." Mo is very confused but it kind of made her day.

I believe that you think that but recently I was talking to a coworker and she said "lots of people really like whales." and I said "I don't like whales in a normal person way." And she agreed immediately. We'd worked like one full shift together before, and I don't work around anything to do with marine anything.

I THINK though I could be wrong, you're thinking of the shark episode? There's a case where a shark in an aquarium vomits up an arm and they're like "AHA, foul play afoot! Someone killed this man and fed him to the shark!" I haven't seen the really early seasons though so that could be a different thing. The "Mysterious death" I was referencing really isn't so mysterious, a man broke into seaworld, severely intoxicated, and either climbed into or fell into the orca tank- where at the time, Tilikum was housed. Tilikum who over his life span killed three people (There's only four reported deaths by killer whales in captivity and none in the wild), this man being his second victim, I believe. And look okay that is EXACTLY what I was looking into, I went to the seaworld website to find out the names of the orcas currently held there so I could google them on a third party website to find out if they have histories of aggression or acting out to determine if I'm getting a buddy or a grave stone. None of them had aggressive incidents listed, a couple actively stated that there were none, so that's a good sign. Bad signs, four out of the five are kids of Tilly's and while I love Tilikum and really respect him for what he did for killer whale rights, I am a little hesitant with those genetics. Another bad sign: Free Willy taught me that orcas like their tongues scratched and I'm not quite sure I can trust myself to not give them tongue pets if they come see me. I also I can tell you right now I would NOT get past the orca tank, you and me could be like spies on a super important mission and you'd have to like turn around and be like "What are you doing we need the FILES." And I'd be like "Look this is clearly a girl I think it's Katina isn't she cute? Judging by the eyepatch shape-" And then you'd realize that you should just finish the mission alone honestly, you probably don't have to kill me to keep me quiet, I'm probably dumb enough to let Katina do it. (I'm going to refrain from apologizing for all of *that* and you can just remember that you said I could infodump and didn't specify if there were restrictions)

That makes sense! I did have quite a bit of access just because like my sister was into them, my brother was. So we all watched the movies. I never watched agents of Shield (or even tried) but I DID watch the first season of Agent Carter and I DID find that enjoyable. Granted I will do anything for Peggy Carter on account of she could step on me.

I'm so sorry for you not having a Dollarama and also I know I already just straight up said I was Canadian but I feel a little outed for being Canadian. Anyway yeah it's not like a normal thing but the way Dollarama's work is they just like sell overstock of shit for cheap. I once bought a 24 pack of Prismacolor premier colored pencils WITH a bunch of bonus stuff for less than 4$. I've also, more recently, bought a deluxe hardcover Justice League comic from there for 4$. Prices went up so the comics are all 5$ now but when you compare that to full price (30 if you're lucky closer to 40/50$ for most here) it's banger. And I completely get that, like I said I don't even go alone to the one near me but it terrifies me. Last time I just stayed by my brother (buying pokemon cards) and didn't look at the comics at all, and another time I looked at them briefly because he was taking a long time and felt like everyone knew I don't even LIKE comics or nerd stuff and I was just there as a little sister and I had no right to be there (I quickly took back my place at my brother's side). Hopefully you can swing it sometime <3

Like when they branch off completely? Like big things like Heroes in Crisis (idk how good of a reference that is I think it's like all retconned now but) Where they had the main event in one series but that trickled down into individual comics? Or like zero year? I don't know how much I can elaborate on that one but like I read the batwoman one exclusively because it was in the New 52 run of Batwoman but now I have the volume of all the stories on my shelf?

I DO think that the arrowverse shows are better if you don't know the comics so that makes sense, and trust me I'm so good at attaching myself to things I get it. I LIKED supergirl a) couldn't tell what wasn't real, I've never read a supergirl comic in my life. B) Chyler Leigh- most specfically, Chyler Leigh with short hair, a gun, and a hint of lesbianism. Because I liked Lexi grey in Greys Anatomy but it hits different when they can fight well. But you are allowed to like things! I like my own little parts of it if I learn how to watch TV. That's all completely fair!!

I would like to! I've always liked the way they look! I just need to learn how to be a person again first and I do not know how to be a person at ALL right now. That WOULD be why I said don't/didn't, I assumed you might say that but didn't want to be presumptious.

It depends for me. A) sometimes my hobbies just take a break, like I'll just,,, not like painting anymore and I have to wait for it to wear off before I can paint again. Or writing won't work. Reading will be awful and I have no idea why. B) reading feels like a waste of time? I have three (part time) Jobs so a lot of time if I have downtime my brain is like EW you're gonna waste that on a book? And yes, because I like? Books? I also like reading is such a love/ hate relationship for so many people. Both my mother and sister used to love reading and now they can't pick up a book. And last winter I had this fun little thing called my ocd decided that books were making me sick and I couldn't read them anymore without starting to feel incredibly ill because the brain is a bitch. I can read again though! (Currently reading a 1979 book about a killer killer whale and I am a little bit fact checking it mentally) I hope you can also read again soon and also pick a fucked little Weirdo book!

That's completely fair! And no rush or pressure of course!! And valid, I read the new issue last night, I found out it was out because I routinely just scroll "most recent" in the black canary tag and then proceeded to actually remember I wanted to read it at like 3am and read it then.

One thing about your girl? I love a good shark, so I am ALL for the megalodons that aren't going to get harmed at all they are all good polite little boys they will be fine (I need them to be fine I'm 80 pages into the book I mentioned earlier and 4 orcas have already died the megalodons will behave and leave them alone. I need this). I was a little less intrigued this time but not for like valid reasons- I didn't not enjoy it I think it's just that most off the issue was explaining sci-fi stuff and I was frothing at the mouth in the corner like "Sin sin sin sin sin sin sin sin". I'm definitely excited for the next issue still, I LOVED Sin being a pokemon fan that goes hard. I still don't like the relationship between Harley and Dinah, I know it makes perfect sense and I'm not mad mad about it but I'm just so biased from their injustice relationship (And even the Harley Quinn and the birds of prey comic) It's always a little disappointing when they don't get along perfectly. And it made me want to get back into writing black canary fics/ finish the couple I have in my drafts (I didn't but it DID get me to return to one). Please tell me what YOU thought because it sounds like YOUR brain did more thinking then mine.

okay before i actually respond to the content of this ask i have to say that i cracked open my physical bombshells copies tonight and um boy howdy i am so gay and also i forgot so many details that are just so delightful, such as; barbara!batgirl in bombshells continuity is a full fucking vampire and there is a panel of her giving mouth to mouth to dinah. bombshells has its own suicide squad of sorts thats made up of ravager (rose wilson) who is like a pirate, vampire barbara, enchantress in a cute witch's hat, killer croc and frankie charles who i am not as familiar with outside of bombshells but google says she was barbara's roommate at one point(i think i read the comic its referencing ive just got horrible memory). zatanna and john kind of adopt raven. kara has three moms from krypton and one is kind of evil. superman and power girl become circus performers. mera was diana's first kiss. and oh yeah one detail i think you might especially like. big barda is in this and she is in a wlw relationship with doctor light. anyways i just really love this series sorry i had to ramble for a minute

(this is not me encouraging death by whale btw. please do not do that it does sound quite painful and i would miss getting messages from you)

if we were spies on a secret mission and you got distracted by the whales and stray behind i would simply circle back and happily listen to cool whale facts. maybe we should retire from the spy life and instead become animal activists. (there are no limits or restrictions! i love being infodumped at tbh like it’s so cool when people are very passionate about things((esp when it’s animals bc i love animals))and i love being included in that passion!!)

also jeez is that 30-50 for a single issue of a comic or for like a volume?? that’s so expensive i’m so sorry 😭 i think i got the bombshells volumes i have for like. <15USD each from amazon (i know amazon big corporation and bad however it is so goddamn convenient.) i’m glad you have somewhere where you can find comics for cheaper, even if it is a bit of a toss up on what youll find! i’ll have to keep in mind to check out a dollarama if i ever go to canada.

i’m spending my days off word for the majority of october going back to my parents to help with them moving & for a bachelorette party but i think when i have a day off where i am not making a 3(soon to be 2!) hour drive back to my parents i’ll try to force myself to go check out one of the comic book shops around me.

also idk how to properly describe it but like. hmm lemme see if i can get a screenshot of what i mean. when i was reading batgirl one of the overarching plots was war games which like. spanned over several individual issues of different series, aha this one is a literal check list. but like i’m not going to individually seal out all these individual issues they should just make a war games booklet or smth. (i still probably wouldn’t read war games but it was just an example i had recently from reading batgirl 2000)

yeah i do think supergirl was a lot of fun, especially like season 1 pre the move to the cw (though i do love that s2 embraced lesbian alex so true) but like the s1 supergirl/flash crossover is SOOO dear to me. also much like most of my dc experience i hadnt read any supergirl comics prior to watching the show but i will say i have read some after having seen the show and i did really enjoy them. the red daughter of kyrpton run especially was sooo good. kara becoming a red lantern <33333 i also know i read the supergirl being super run and enjoyed it. honestly supergirl as a character is genuinely pretty fascinating to me and i kinda want to read more of her comics i just cant fully remember which ones i already have read. (also her storyline in bombshells is SOOOOO <333333 shes adoptive sisters with stargirl. she had three moms on krypton. one of said moms turns out to be a little evil..... she kisses girls ((one specifically)) god yeah shes just <33333)

i will try to stop rambling extensively about bombshells (no promises tho) but genuinely if/when you read it PLEASE share your thoughts with me

also okay forgive me if im oversharing here but oh my god i also have ocd and mine also got in the way of my love of reading as it decided that i cannot use libraries or buy used books because they are Contaminated, unfortunately im still struggling with that some, but i made some progress in the last year ive bought my dad & sister some books from a used bookshop (theres this place local to me that lets you shop online and all you have to do is go and pick up the books you bought from their store which helped in making the process easier for me) and i was super proud of myself for being able to do that. having access to the library digitally has been huge for me in terms of reading bc god buying books new is not cheap. but anyways im super happy/proud of you for overcoming and being able to read books again, i know that shit is not easy, so yeah congrats 💕

and yeah i really need to find a good audiobook to listen to especially with how much driving im doing back and forth to my parents this month.

im gonna be honest i dont have a ton of coherent thoughts re the new bop issue other than i thought it was fun. it was cool to see john constantine and his dynamic with dinah was very funny to me. hes not a guy i like seek out but i enjoy seeing him in things when he does pop up (watching legends gave me some love for him). it definitely felt like an issue that was more establishing some stuff which i don’t personally mind but definitely not super noteworthy. though seeing dinah fighting is always a win for me. i’m also a little disappointed by the harley dinah dynamic, i much prefer when their dynamic is more friendly but im gonna hold out hope their dynamic could change in this overtime or at least give us some explanation for why their dynamic is as it is.

okay this reply has taken like. three days so i’m gonna end it here but i think i’m gonna crack open the first injustice issue while i eat my dinner at work so next time i’ll report my thoughts.

Welcome to our Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide. Pokémon Gaia is a tough one, so if you need a little nudge in the right direction (or to keep you from becoming Zubat's food), this guide is for you. Let's begin!

Welcome to your humble home in Celanto Town. Your first steps in the Orbtus region have you returning a Library book and bringing it to someone who’s waiting for you in the Ruins just South of the town. I’m sure this won’t be important to the story in any way!

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Grab the Dusty Tome from your desk upstairs and deliver it to the lady in the Ruins. She explains that the book never belonged to the Library and is a family heirloom of hers. Hand over the book and return to the town. Your mom informs you that the Professor in the Library is giving away Pokemon, so head West to pick yours. Picking The Perfect Starter You could make a case for any of the Starters being the ‘best’ so I urge you to go with your favourite. The general consensus is that Turtwig is the strongest and Piplup is the weakest, but I used the latter without issue. There are plenty of opportunities to catch powerful Pokemon, so go with what you think is the coolest. Your Rival will always pick your Pokemons counter, and as far as Pokemon Rivals go, he’s alright! When you’re ready, head West to Celanto Path. Celanto Path You can’t catch any Pokemon here as you don’t have Pokeballs. I like to level my Pokemon up to Level 6 in preparation for an upcoming battle, but it’s optional. Walk through the tall grass and West to Archan Town. Archan Town Head into the ‘Redwood Residence’ right next to the Pokemon Center. Professor Redwood will give you a Care Package you need to open in your inventory; it contains a Pokedex, Redwood Card and Town Map. Speak to the Professor again, and he will give you some Pokeballs and Potions. When you’re ready, head West to the mouth of Archan Tunnel, where your Rival is waiting to challenge you. He only has the Starter he was given. Rival – 1st Encounter

Starter – LV5 Keep using your basic attack, and you should win without a hitch. Return to the Pokemon Center to heal and head into Archan Tunnel. Archan Tunnel

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide There are a few easy Trainers to defeat here, and you’ll run into plenty of wild Pokemon. As you have your first Gym battle in the next town, I recommend fighting every Trainer and wild Pokemon you come across for the EXP. Drilbur is worth catching if you come across one because it can use all the Rock-Based HMs and Cut. When you reach the bridge, head South. Your destination is East off that path, but if you keep heading down, you’ll find the lost Weedle for the boy at the tunnel entrance. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel back to give it to him. His mom will appear when you interact with the Weedle and provides you with a Soothe Bell for your troubles. Want a Clefairy?

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide When you reach the Hiker (pictured above), you can head West instead of South. Heading West will take you on a short path to a strange room with a Clefairy inside. The Clefairy should be easy to catch as it’s only LV5 and is an excellent early addition to your team.

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Seros Village You’ll bump into the Professor and your Rival as soon as you arrive in the town. Once they leave, you’re free to explore. Use the Pokemon Center and stock up on supplies from the Poke-Mart, as your very first Gym is ready to be challenged! Pokemon Day-Care The Day Care centre is just to the West of the Pokemon Center. You probably won’t have much use for it now, but feel free to use it later. Seros Gym Welcome to your first Gym, where you’ll face off against Fernando, a Fairy-type specialist. You won’t have a counter to Fairy-types yet, but they aren’t much of a threat as it’s so early. Make full use of your Starter here and use its most potent attacks on repeat. I was able to clear this battle comfortably with my Starter at LV15. Gym Leader Fernando – Fairy-type - Clefairy (Fairy) – LV11 - Ralts – (Psychic/Fairy) – LV11 - Jigglypuff (Normal/Fairy) – LV13 Nobody Likes A Sore Loser Ever had a Gym Leader refuse to give you a badge? Well, that’s what’s happening right now! After defeating Fernando, he flees West to Wisp Forest, and if you want that badge, you best go after him! Wisp Forest Wisp Forest is a golden opportunity to grab a Ghost-Type Pokemon if you want one. I stayed here until I caught a Ghastly (Gengar is one of my favourites), but it’s not essential. Once you head deep enough into the Forest, you’ll find a sulking Fernando, and he will give you the Mystic Badge. The Day-Care Man will give you HM01 – Cut when you return to the town. Make sure you visit the Gym after Fernando’s little outburst, as he will provide you with the Charming Cry TM. Afterwards, head around the back of the Gym and use Cut on the trees blocking the way to Aerous City. Aerous City

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Even though there’s no Gym here, there’s still tons to do! If you’ve committed the cardinal sin of misspelling your Pokemon’s names, you can fix them by talking to the Name Rater. His house is West of the Pokemon Center. Spend More = Get More The man in the house North of the Pokemon Center wants to sell you an unknown item for 5000G. That item is an Amulet Coin, increasing the gold you earn from battles. The sooner you buy it, the sooner it pays for itself. Aerous City Museum It’s all kicking off here, and we’re introduced to our Antagonists, the New Elders. All the Grunts in here should be easy to dispatch. Fun fact, There’s a combination code if you stand on the stool and interact with the wall on the 2nd floor. If you enter code 1104, a room will unlock with a ruthless trainer inside! She will rip you to shreds with an entire team of LV60 Pokemon. Needless to say, stay clear for now. Aerous Art Club Since you’ll probably be a little poor after buying the Amulet Coin, head to the top floor of the Art Club via the stairs on the right. One of the patrons by the counter will give you a Nugget if you talk to him. It sells for a tidy 5000G. How to Get an Eevee! If you head West on the ground floor of the Art Club, there are four trainers to battle, each with a single Smeargle. At the end of this gauntlet is a trainer called Vincent. He has a team of 6 Smeargles with an unpleasant array of attacks and status effects. You’ll want to switch your Pokemon out for healing if they get any Status Ailments, so having a few reliable Pokemon will help here. Every Pokemon in the Art Club is LV16, so having Pokemon a little stronger would be ideal. When you defeat Vincent, he will give you an Egg with an Eevee inside. Nestpine Town

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide If you’re not accustomed to this upgraded difficulty, Nestpine Town can catch you off guard, as there are a couple of demanding battles in this area. Your main goal is to conquer the Gym, but you’ll be thrust into a bout with your Rival first. He’s waiting at the door of the Gym. The Move Deleter If you need a Pokemon to forget a move, speak to the Move Deleter. He lives just North of the Pokemon Center. Showdown with Your Rival This fight is tough if you’ve not got a counter to your Rival’s Starter Pokemon. You can beat him on level difference, but make finding a counter your priority after this fight. This is your Rival’s line-up. Rival – 2nd Encounter - Makuhita (Fighting) – LV20 - Starter – LV22 - Roggenrola (Rock) – LV20 - Swablu – (Normal/Flying) LV20 The biggest threat in this battle, without a doubt, is the Starter Pokemon. This thing will usually KO your own Starter in a single hit! If you don’t have a proper counter, your best bet is to catch something that is at least neutral and level them up before the fight. Upon defeating your Rival, you gain access to the Gym and the coveted EXP Share Item! Always give this to your weakest Pokemon and use it so none of your squad falls behind. Nestpine Town Gym Aria might give you a little trouble if you picked the Grass-type Starter. Chatot, in particular, is a horrid opponent that knows ‘Chatter’. Chatter inflicts Confusion, and it’s a miserable status ailment no matter what Pokemon game you’re playing! Aria’s Pokemon are as follows: Gym Leader Aria – Flying Type - Vullaby (Dark/Flying) – LV21 - Gligar (Ground/Flying) – LV21 - Chatot (Normal Flying) – LV23 Vullaby and Chatot are weak to Electric and Rock-Type attacks, as you’d expect. Gligar’s strange Type combo makes it completely immune to Electric, and Rock will only do normal damage. On the bright side, it’s weak to Water and Ice if you somehow have an Ice move already. After you’ve emerged victorious, head South-East to Frostbite Cave. Frostbite Cave

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Frostbite Cave isn’t complex, but it’s long and full of battles. Make sure you inspect the coloured rocks for hidden prizes. As I mentioned at the start of the guide, random encounters are in full force in Pokemon Gaia, and you’ll get a real taste of that here! Don’t be afraid to splash out on Repels. Elder Knight Eunice Before you leave the Cave, you’re introduced to your first New Elder commander, Elder Knight Eunice. Eunice is no pushover and likes to use Hailstorm, which batters both of your Pokemon each turn. To make matters worse, all her Pokemon, aside from Noctowl, resist that damage. This is her team, and take note of their levels as they hit hard! Elder Knight Eunice – 1st Encounter - Snover (Grass/Ice) – LV24 - Froslass (Ice/Ghost) – LV24 - Noctowl (Normal/Flying) – LV24 - Amaura (Rock/Ice) – LV26 You’ll have an easy time here if you picked Chimchar as your Starter but beware of Eunice’s Amaura, as it’s not weak to fire. Ideally, you’ll want to use Fighting or Steel against it, as it’s very weak to both. The biggest threat here is Hailstorm slowly chipping away at your squad. Froslass uses it, and as it’s so fast, it will usually go first. Be generous with your healing items, and you’ll be fine. Windmist City

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide I’m sure you’re itching to earn another Gym Badge, but before the Gym unlocks, you must make your way up to the top of Apex Tower to the North. Considering the grandiose name, it’s a minor area. There are a few trainers to battle, but nothing of note, and they shouldn’t pose a problem. Windmist City Gym Arguably, Nina is a pushover compared to Eunice in Frostbite Cave. Nina specializes in Fire Pokemon, and her team is as follows: Gym Leader Nina – Fire-type - Pignite (Fire/Fighting) – LV26 - Magmar (Fire) – LV26 - Heatmor (Fire) – LV26 - Camerupt (Fire/Ground) – LV28 Naturally, you’ll stomp the entire Gym with Water-types and Ground-Types work just as well, even against Camerupt. Any Gym is easy if you’ve got the appropriate counters, but Nina’s roster has no tricks or curveballs. It should be a pushover. After you’ve conquered the Gym, Professor Redwood will offer to take you back to Aerous City. He will also give you a Bike Voucher to spend there! You can find the Bike Shop just East of the Pokemon Center. When ready, head South to board the S.S Wake to Sabulo Island. Sabulo Island

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Since there’s no Gym, your goal here is to battle all the way to the top of Sabulo Tower. The trainers in this Tower are no joke, and you’ll need to beat five of them! As they put up quite a fight, here’s precisely what you’ll be dealing with. Expert Nicholi – Normal-Type - Glameow (Normal) – LV27 - Teddiursa (Normal) – LV27 - Herdier (Normal) – LV27 - Diggersby (Normal/Ground) – LV29 Expert Maya – Grass-Type - Skiddo (Grass) – LV27 - Wormadam (Bug/Grass) – LV27 - Jumpluff (Grass/Flying) – LV27 - Grovyle (Grass) – LV29 Ace Trainer Atsushi – Fire-Type - Litleo (Fire/Normal) – LV27 - Numel (Fire/Ground) – LV27 - Fletchinder (Fire/Flying) – LV27 - Larvesta (Bug/Fire) – LV29 Ace Trainer Mikel – Water-Type - Barboach (Water/Ground) – LV27 - Mantine (Water/Flying) – LV27 - Basculin (Water) – LV27 - Basculin (again) (Water) – LV29 Expert Agem – Dragon-Type - Goomy (Dragon) – LV30 - Dragonair (Dragon) – LV30 - Tyrunt (Rock/Dragon) – LV30 - Gabite (Dragon/Ground) – LV32 The Achilles heel of each of these Trainers is there are no tricky type combinations. A single good counter to their types (Electric vs Water, for example) will quickly wipe out their entire squad. Once you’ve fought to the top, you’ll face Belle, and she means business! Still, you’ll be given a Mega Ring for Mega Evolutions when you take her down. Successor Belle - Heracross (Bug/Fighting) – LV30 - Sableye (Dark/Ghost) – LV30 - Manectric (Electric) – LV30 - Mawile (Steel/Fairy) – LV30 - Audino (Normal) – LV32 (Mega!) Sableye is an infamous Pokemon as it’s immune to Normal, Psychic and Fighting attacks. Only Fairy attacks will really hurt it. Belle’s trump card is undoubtedly her Audino which will Mega Evolve and hits like a freight train. Fighting-Type attacks will make short work of Audino; otherwise, just hit it with the strongest attacks you have. Sabulo Cave

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide After hearing some commotion, Sabulo Cave is your next destination South East of the town. At the entrance, you’re scolded by Elder Knight Enoch for interfering and challenged to a battle. Elder Knight Enoch - Tyrantrum (Rock/Dragon) – LV30 - Diggersby (Normal/Ground) – LV30 - Golurk (Ground/Ghost) – LV30 - Aerodactyl (Rock/Flying) – LV32 You can dismantle Enoch’s entire team with Ice attacks, but even without that, Enoch’s roster is less threatening than what you’ve just dealt with in Sabulo Tower. Remember to go into the Cave after the battle as you need to grab the ‘Ragged Map’ from inside. Your Rival will meet you in the Cave and give you HM03 – Surf. Belle will meet you on the way back and give you another Pokemon to add to your roster, one of the original Kanto (Red/Blue) Starters! You don’t get to choose, but it will always be the one that would be weak to your Starter, so if you picked Chimchar, you’d get a Bulbasaur. It can also Mega-Evolve, making it the most dangerous Pokemon on your team. When you’re ready to leave, head to the South of Sabulo Island and Surf down to Valoon Way. Valoon Way A surprisingly long gauntlet of Grass, surfing and Trainers stands between you and Valoon Town. Ultimately, this section isn’t too awful, but you can get worn down if you run out of items. Fortunately, there is a Nurse halfway through the area. After beating her, she will heal your Pokemon whenever you need it. Valoon Town

Pokemon Gaia Walkthrough & Guide Your goal here is to conquer the Gym and earn your next badge! You need to do a couple of things before the Gym opens, and the first is a trip to Nemesis Cave to the North. Nemesis Cave is a small area full of trainers, but it shouldn’t cause trouble much like Apex Tower. Once you’re done, go to the Ranger HQ in Valoon Town for the Bug-Catching contest. Bug-Catching Contest This is a fantastic little side area but just note you can’t actually win the contest on your first try. The contest is rigged, so Vernon, the Gym leader, always wins. Catch anything you want to end the event, then make your way to the Gym. If you decide to come back here later, it seems that points are scaled off how much HP the Pokemon you catch has. With this in mind, try and catch Pokemon without attacking it. Many goodies are up for grabs, including several Mega-Evolution stones if you win. Read the full article
