SX Seoul series | Namjoon entry 💜 Closer
Tumblr media
GIF by namchyoon
PAIRING: Namjoon x Reader (You can also read it on AO3)
SUMMARY: Namjoon and you were friends for years — he was your confidant, protector, and haven. You didn’t want to risk it, no matter what, but some things can’t be kept in the dark.
WORD COUNT: 8.2k
GENRE: friends to lovers, smut (it's lovemaking tbh)
RATING: R (explicit)
WARNINGS: reader is shy and introverted, mentions of anxiety, being in the dark in an agitated crowd (reader is safe w/ NJ), fear of losing a friendship, porn w/ plot (lovemaking, or my version of it), unprotected sex (wrap it up), dry humping, riding, they're both shy and idiots in love but they make it 💜
A.N. Is this a slow burn? Am I searingly slowly taking you all on the journey that is kissing and feeling Kim Namjoon? Some could say there was no need to describe it in such detail. They would be wrong 💜
Tumblr media
Someone called your name and you looked up.
“Come on! Don’t fall behind!”
You gasped mutely and rushed in between the ever-growing crowd to join your friends and coworkers atop the stairs. The line wasn’t too big tonight but you still preferred to stay close to them — no way you wanted to be left alone in a bar street in Itaewon in the middle of the night. You pressed your hands nervously, looking around while your friends laughed about something you didn’t hear. No, you didn’t want that. There could be weird people and drunk people, and you were the designated driver anyway—
“Hey!”
You blinked at Juhyun through your glasses with big wide brown eyes like a deer caught in headlights.
“Come along!” She sighed, extending her hand so you’d grab it, and you did with relief.
You gave your coat at the reception with a polite head bow, following closely after everyone. The noise hit your ribcage with the force of an alarm, making you grin with gritted teeth but you took a deep breath and hurried along. It wasn’t like you never went out, or had never been there before. SX Seoul had become the preferred club of people working in the industry, and so you found yourself with a vibrating ribcage and sweaty hands every once in a while. However, you did get anxious in crowded loud places like bars and clubs. An elbow sank into your side as you followed after Juhyun and despite the person’s apology and head bow, which you returned, you smiled with a hint of tiredness. The night had just begun.
You got set on the couches, saying hi to everyone you knew who was already there, and smoothly offered to help everyone get drinks. That was an easy way for you to get an alcohol-free drink early on and successfully avoid being offered drinks for a long while.
“Look who’s DJying tonight!”
You had sat near Juhyun after handing her a drink and smiled happily, engaging in light conversation.
“Didn’t you write his breakout music video?”
“Yeah, I did!”
You smiled politely, a warm fuzzy feeling settling in your stomach — you might have not liked the constant background house beat that had you all screaming to be heard, but you did feel proud of your work. Of every concept you had written, every storyboard you had designed, and every screening you helped with that led you to where you were now — in a creative atmosphere surrounded by like-minded people who just wanted to bring joy and creativity to the world.
As the night continued, you were more and more comfortable, surrounded by people you knew. You didn’t think it could get better, but as soon as Namjoon arrived, you grinned from ear to ear and chuckled at your silliness.
“Hi everyone!” You instantly scooted over and made space for him to sit beside you and join in the conversation, yet as you tried to keep up, he leaned in, “Driving?”
You turned to him and smiled sheepishly, something he returned with a sweetness of his own. You had been friends forever; he knew the answer to his own question.
“Your hair,” he added.
You blinked then felt for it over your shoulders and chest, trying to see in between psychedelic blinding lights if something had happened to it or something.
“No! Just— It’s loose!”
You blinked again, pressing your glasses up the bridge of your nose, “Well, yeah.”
He smirked briefly, looking down before facing you again with a gentle puff, “It looks good!”
Your lashes batted once before someone asked for his attention, and just in time. You could feel the heat spreading from your chest to your cheeks and turned to sip at your drink seemingly absentmindedly.
He noticed? You didn’t know why it surprised you so much; Namjoon was an attentive friend. Caring too, he always noticed when something was going wrong or a project was difficult. He always offered to help you out, and you did the same. You had that kind of relationship — friendly and supportive. Of course, that didn’t mean he had to notice your hairstyle for tonight. You had just let go of your usual braids to something more casual — just loose over your shoulders. And now there you were, playing with the long hair locks over your chest like your heart wasn’t fluttering at the simplest interaction.
“Hey! Let’s dance!”
You nodded at Juhyun and got up with a smile that crumbled just a little when Namjoon got up too. He scratched the back of his neck, sheepishly smiling at you and Juhyun.
“You don’t mind if I join you, right?”
“Of course not!”
She had answered for you because yet again you were pressing your lips. Namjoon wasn’t half as bad a dancer as he thought he was and you had all danced together before. Had you blushed then as you did now? You wondered as you beelined to the center of the dancefloor; you couldn’t remember. In the end, it didn’t matter. You smiled as you turned to Namjoon in that circle of people just randomly facing each other in turns. It didn’t have to be anything much, you were just having fun. All of you. It was absolutely fine.
He grabbed your hand and wiggled it for you to pivot and move around and you just laughed and did as told because it was fun. And not a big deal if he didn’t do it to the others, they were busy shouting in each other’s ears anyway.
You felt light and didn’t think it could get better than this when all of a sudden everything became pitch black. The music shut down and suddenly all you could hear was your ears ringing annoyingly and people either shouting or wondering a bit louder than usual about what was going on. It took you a couple of seconds to realize that it couldn’t be normal for a club to just abruptly shut down like that, and it was enough for your anxiety to instantly spike and sting your chest. Yet a pair of arms circled you lightening fast, pressing you safely to a firm chest.
Your cheeks were squished against his pectorals and you could hear a heart racing equally to yours under your ear. A question never formed itself, you knew exactly who was hugging you. It was safe now. You hugged him back and closed your eyes, using his body like an anchor to keep your anxiety from releasing you into the rowdy sea.
Namjoon could hear people getting agitated all around you two, making him squeeze you harder against him. People got nervous in situations like those. They could start running for the exit, pushing and stepping over people without a care if the panic was big enough. And as the absence of music and light continued, mere seconds felt like minutes cracking under the pressure as people became agitated.
He knew crowded places made you anxious. That was how you justified the way he was pressing his lips to the top of your head. It made your already racing heart jump with a foreign feeling, which mixed with his musky cologne had you sweating and not out of nervousness.
A louder shout not so far from you startled you into pressing your fingertips into his lower back and he immediately hugged you tighter. His lips brushed the top of your head again but the agitation around you was too loud, making it impossible to discern what he had said. Yet, regardless, you were safe. You could feel people shifting around you, voices becoming louder, and the occasional glimpse from people's phones. A wave of appreciation and gratitude flooded you, flowing over your anxiety and you unglued your cheek from his shirt to tell him.
His lips pressed lightly atop your cheekbone and your breath caught. His nose had tapped against your glasses and you instinctively squinted though you couldn’t see. None of it bothered you though, on the contrary. Your lips parted in surprise, his thumb dragging across your jawline as if to make sure of where you were in the dark.
You forgot about the world around you. You were suspended in the air, in a trance, waiting for what would happen next, and it happened unexpectedly. His forehead touched yours and you closed your eyes, letting him cradle you sweetly. Little did he know that you could feel no anxiousness now, you were a blank page waiting to be written on.
Or maybe he knew. He didn’t force your chin but he did mutter something while his lips brushed your jawline, and you turned your head. Curiosity, it was all it was. Because you hadn’t heard him, but as your skins brushed, your lips caught the subtle hint of something plush and wet for the tiniest of moments.
You became dizzy and gripped his shirt at the end of his back. Was that what you thought it was? Was that—?
All it took was a millimeter for him to give you the hint that you took without hesitation. His lips pressed to the corner of your mouth and you sighed, eyes scrunching with the tension inside your chest. You were no mind and all instinct when you parted your lips further to get more, just a bit more. All you were ready to do was react, so when it felt like he was about to break away, you closed in.
You were incredibly aware of everything that involved Namjoon. The way his long fingers supported your jawline with a feather-like touch, his short hair falling just above his eyes tickling you where it got to your skin around your glasses, the softest touch of his plush lips as even his breath eased, the gentlest breeze caressing your face whenever you tentatively parted and rejoined like waves kissing the shore.
You were aware of everything, and yet when the lights and music came back on, you were helpless. Namjoon straightened up to look around, trying to figure out what was going on, while you were just looking up at him, gripping him still, trying to figure things out on your own. What was that? What—
“Are you okay?” Juhyun asked right behind you and you jumped in place, startled. You let go of Namjoon, and it was he who answered.
“Yeah, we stayed cool. Are you?”
“Yeah, they pushed around a bit though, geez,” she complained, running a hand through her hair. “What do you think happened?”
“Good question, I don’t know.”
You didn’t hear anything anymore, you were just staring up at him as he talked. Good question. You had no idea either. What happened? Did you really just kiss—
“Listen, if you’re bummed out, that’s okay,” Juhyun shouted above the music, pressing your arm gently. She looked concerned and you tried a smile.
You could guess you looked as befuddled as you felt, “Yeah, I kind of— But I’m your driver!” You shouted instead, remembering your responsibility with a firm shake of your head.
“It’s okay, we’ll catch a taxi!” She shouted with a nod. She knew you were usually anxious; something unnerving like that was surely too much for you. “I’m just worried about you going alone!”
“I’ll go with her,” Namjoon nodded, unwavering, and before you got to say something, Juhyun agreed.
“Take care, text me when you’re home,” she asked you, squeezing your hand once.
You were frowning, about to suggest staying a bit more so you could take her home too when a firmer hand replaced hers. Namjoon returned your gaze, said a quick goodbye with a wave to everyone else, and then pulled you behind him as he made your way out.
Your mind slowly got back on track with every step you took. His hand was firmly wrapped around yours, and despite his wide shoulders in front of you, sheltering you from the chaos, your anxiety guided your thoughts back to the surface with a forced gasp.
What were you doing? Maybe this would turn awkward. You and Namjoon had been good friends for years, you had always counted on him. Maybe that was a mistake, maybe he would be uncomfortable around you now. You didn’t want things to change, you didn’t want to lose his joyful grins, relaxing bicycle rides, and long quiet reading sessions back at his place.
You bowed as you took your coat at the reception and put it on before stepping out into the cold. He was no longer holding your hand, which was holding the coat’s collar to your neck instead. You swallowed and looked down, freezing atop the stairs while you ran by the options and he stepped down ahead of you. You don’t have to leave earlier because of me. I can get home safely by myself. I’m sorry if that was awkward, I—
“Where’s your car?”
You sucked in a breath and told him before turning to walk intently as quickly as possible. The cold was rough on your cheeks, despite the big round lenses of your glasses. You gritted your teeth not to quiver as you stepped carefully over the slippery sidewalk.
When you got to your car, you got in quickly and turned it on to give it time to warm up a bit. Namjoon had followed you inside in silence and was so quiet that his presence could have been buried under your anxiety.
You brushed your flushed cheeks and tried pulling your long hair free, realizing it was trapped between your blouse and the coat. You were so used to having braids that you forgot you needed to tend to your hair properly whenever you put your coat on and now you were stiff and stuck and—
“Easy,” he rasped, reaching to help you and you froze. You glanced up at him and stayed still as he alleviated the tension of the fabric over your shoulders to gently pull your hair out before leaning to repeat the same action on the other side. By then your eyes had lowered to his hands. The way he was handling your dark threads of hair as if it was the most precious silk, worthy of care and attention. “There.”
Your eyes jumped up in time to see him leaning back, a perfectly blank expression making your chest pang in nervousness. You were overthinking again.
“Thanks!” You squeaked, clearing your voice immediately as you leaned forward to reach the GPS screen, “Now, to Joonie’s…”
The drive was easier than you thought it would be. He commented on the cold, and then on what happened at the bar. He had never seen something like that at a bar, only at festivals or concerts. He wondered if the whole street had a power outage or if it was just that room. You mused that if it had been more than just the room, you’d surely hear about it in the news.
And just like that the car became quiet. Seoul always had traffic, even at 2:52 AM, it was nothing new. So while you comfortably focused on taking him home safely, your thoughts wandered elsewhere.
His lips were the softest thing you had ever touched in your life. Just the delicateness with which you had kissed, you didn’t think you had it in you. Weren’t kisses supposed to be messy? Powerful and passionate? Then how had you touched the pillowy clouds above?
Just remembering it had your guts burning in excitement, and you pressed your lips. Were you making any sense? But you had really done that; hiddenly in the dark, yes, but really. You had acted on your instinct for the first time and gotten a glimpse of the sky.
You wondered why now. Your friendship was old and comfortable, and he had always been a gentleman, protective but never overbearing. You thought he saw you as a colleague initially and then a friend with similar tastes. You pressed your lips right as you stopped the car in front of his apartment building. One glance at him and you knew that was the same old Namjoon you were used to. Maybe you had dreamed it. Maybe it was supposed to stay a dream.
“Would you like to come up?”
Your eyes jumped and widened, the shock as evident in your expression as a blinking billboard sign.
“I finished the new Murakami,” he continued swiftly, “so you can take it if you want. Or any other book.”
Your lips instantly twitched into a smile, “You finally finished it, then.”
He smirked as you turned off the engine and reached to get your bag, “Finally. You know how I am with his books.”
You nodded and got out of the car, the negative temperature clashing with your blushing cheeks. Yet you only smiled, locked the car, and teased him while you both went inside. Even the ride up the elevator was lighter; you two were back to your eased friendship where you got to poke fun at his annoyance with the repetitiveness of Murakami’s plotlines while enjoying every other detailed introspection he had to offer.
So when you passed the threshold of his apartment, you were as always. You both got your shoes off, though you kept your coat because you weren’t going to stay long. He offered you a drink despite you insisting that it was a quick visit, and as he disappeared into the kitchen to see what he could offer, you beelined to his reading corner.
That space always brought a smile to your face and comfort to your heart. That corner of the living room had a bookshelf from floor to ceiling separated by squared compartments that combined books and small plant pots in a myriad of colors. His most cherished one, however, was the bonsai on the small table next to the gray reading chair and ottoman. He'd let you take up the chair whenever you would read or work at his place, with him preferring the couch so he could stretch his legs more comfortably. You preferred the reading chair because the setting was a mood changer for you and you could use the different shelves to place your open books, especially when designing or writing ideas. Each square was organized in a particular way: some by authors, others by category, or type of work.
“I don’t have much,” you could hear him returning to you. “But I can make tea.”
You shook your head while you crouched, taking a look at your favorite section, “It’s okay, I won’t stay long. Where’s the Murakami?”
“Right here,” his voice sounded from above your head, and you glanced up to see him towering over you, reaching for the book lying by the ledge on the appropriate shelf. He eyed you and you smirked, pushing your glasses up your nose bridge before looking back down. The corners of his lips twitched as he gripped the book inside his hands; he knew you were just happily skimming through your favorite shelf, and that wasn’t the issue. You weren’t the issue, you were— He took a deep shaky breath, “Oh, right, I have another one.”
He placed the Murakami book on the small table and left your side in the direction of his bedroom, you noticed. You pressed your lips and got up, grabbing the book he was holding just now. Blood was rushing to your cheeks and you took a short breath to ease yourself. You were there just to grab that book. You were alone at Namjoon’s, and that had happened hundreds of times before. Not that you had ever kissed before, but you could be cool. It was in the dark anyway. Conceptually, if you were thinking of the outline of a music video, that meant it was a secret. You could keep a secret. You could pretend it never happened.
Overhearing his steps pulled you from the depths of your thoughts to check what he had in his hands.
“Here,” he grinned, showing it to you.
It was a book and you gasped before you grabbed it. The cover had the digital drawing of a little girl on her bed, not lying down, but facing the wall behind her that had become an ocean with sparkling rays floating above. The title read, ‘Windows to Worlds: The Art of Devin Elle Kurtz’. You thought the name rang a bell as you opened and skimmed through it.
“I thought of you,” he smiled, dimples sinking sweetly into his cheeks at your interested demeanor.
“Woah, her use of color and lighting looks absolutely astounding,” you breathed, alternating between gasping and stopping your breath altogether with each new page.
“I’m glad you like it.”
“But why did you get it?” You finally caught up, looking up at him. “Because I was struggling with lighting?”
Your tone was appreciative and almost savvy as if you knew you had guessed his intent correctly. Yet he shook his head once, “Because of the braids.”
You lowered your eyes to the cover again and indeed, the little girl had two braids, much like you usually sported. You smiled, “Do you think she has glasses too?”
“Maybe,” he acceded, nodding with ease.
You looked back down at the cover — the girl had her palms against the glass as if she was staring into a new magical world. It brought warmth to your chest. Not just because it was beautiful or because it was going to help you, but because Namjoon saw some of it in you.
You pressed the books to your chest, facing him to thank him when your smile fell. His expression had lost some of its casualness and you were immediately flooded with apprehension.
“Are we going to talk about it?”
His tone was so gentle it brought tears to your eyes. It was Namjoon. All of it, all of your doubts and anxiety were about one of the most important people in your life. Who cared how you might have felt; you absolutely could not jeopardize your friendship.
“I’m sorry,” you breathed so sincerely your voice shook.
“Oh.”
“I… It was…”
Your gaze was on the floor around his feet on the white carpet as you tried to find words. You half expected him to move or make things less awkward with his spirited humor, but he waited.
So you said what came to mind, “An accident. Right? It was an accident,” you repeated, ignoring the heat making your glasses fog ever so slightly. “It was dark and…”
You sucked in a breath and pushed your glasses up your nose bridge to soothe yourself, and froze when he nodded slowly.
“I… can’t call it an accident.”
Your eyes widened impossibly, “But— But then— I mean,” you blinked, “that would mean…”
You were just stammering and he smiled, “Yes. I don’t just— I wouldn’t just—” He smirked, scratching the back of his head, “I’d be lying if I said—”
His voice got caught inside his throat. You were looking up at him with eyes so big he feared they’d pop or something. He thought he was ready to talk about it and get it out in the open but— Were you even breathing?
“You know what? Never mind,” he shrugged, with a smile that pressed his plush lips too thin.
Your eyes widened even more, “No—” You almost choked from your impulse and instinctively stepped back, and everything went dark.
You held your breath as if you had been caught in a trap. You could have been back at the club, but there was no crowd, no fear, and no pressure. There was light still shining from his bedroom, reassuringly outlining his silhouette. You were safe, just like then. And it formed the words out of your mouth.
“I can't call it an accident either,” you confessed, and instantly your shoulders relaxed. He didn’t move and you couldn’t see him, but you knew him. You knew of his presence and the way he would never judge or hurt you. “I kissed you back.”
The silence continued between you but you found comfort in it. It was as though you had time to process, to put yourself back in your shoes moments earlier when exactly like that, in the dark, you let something from deep within surface.
“I was… curious,” you voiced quietly.
“Curious?”
“What would you… feel like? How would you…” you were getting lost and closed your eyes. You could almost feel him again, his warmth, his scent, the firmness of his arms around you, helping you levitate safely into the clouds. Your eyes opened at the sound of a footstep and you instantly flushed, “I mean, I— I’m sorry, I—”
“No, don't say sorry.” His outline drew closer until he stopped right in front of you. “You were curious about that?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
Why was your heart racing so fast? You were so hot that you knew for a fact your glasses were fogging, despite not being able to see it. You swallowed and fanned your face a little, self-conscious about your hands becoming sweaty and dirtying the books.
Yet as you tried to calm down, you realized silence was stretching. He was waiting, of course, gentlemanly as he was. And you were embarrassed but in the dark, you also wanted to be brave.
“I liked it.”
You leave it there, your sincere answer to his question. Your heart was thrumming wildly but you were not half as nervous as you thought you’d be.
“I liked it too.”
Your breath caught as you looked up despite barely seeing a silhouette. What?
“Would you do it again?”
“Now?” Your voice pitched.
“Yes.”
“Yes?” Your tone was inquisitive, but it was more out of shock that he said yes. You were heating up so much you didn’t think you were processing thoughts logically, and you weren’t. Your head was blank, “Yes.”
It felt like an eternity, but you knew that wasn’t true. You were just too eager to see what happened next, to feel him again and check if your head would be caught spinning as you floated away to the clouds again.
The books in your hands disappeared quickly, only the sound of them hitting the table told you their fate, and not that you cared. His breath was fanning your face and your head instantly fell back, tapping the wall as your lips parted and you waited for what you wanted most.
When it didn’t instantly come, you had no issues soothing his hesitation by guiding his hands to your jaw. You wanted him to know where you were; exactly there, between the wall and his safe embrace, waiting.
Finally, his breath was so close it fully stopped when your lips locked together in a feather-like touch, and you moved. You pressed yourself closer, brushing his lips so you’d match completely. Your mouth dove into a sweeter taste, fingers tracing up his neck tentatively to grasp that feeling. And he let you, falling in with you, leaning into you as far as you’d let him.
Your lips parted in an invitation that he took promptly, leaving a wet trace on your bottom lip before he committed. You sighed into his mouth, gripping his shirt to pull him closer. He could reach into you and all around you; you were falling. There was an expanse behind and all around you and it reminded you of free falling; it was probably what skydiving felt like. Only you weren’t nearing the ground but going further from it. That sky was about to catch you; a sweet, soft, endearing sky about to clasp you affectionately and carry you into a dream.
You only stopped because he pulled back, kissing the tip of your nose before pressing his lips to your cheek. It was when you noticed that you two fit together like puzzle pieces, with your fingers buried in the nape of his neck, his into your lower back, your breaths mixing as your legs intertwined.
His breath was heavy against your warm cheek, “This can stay here. In the dark. If you want.”
You were too far to recognize the concern in his voice, “Is that what you want?”
“No,” his reply was instant, a subtle shake of his head as his lips dragged over your heated skin. “No, I'm curious about way more than this.”
You opened your eyes, eager to see in him what he meant, but the darkness hid his expression. It protected you, yes, but now, it made you uneasy. There was a moment when it had soothed your fears, maybe even made you brave, but now it was enough.
“Would turning the light on bother you?”
You felt his smile before he pulled away, “Not at all.”
His hands were still supporting your waist as you felt the wall behind you until you flipped the switch. You shut your eyes instantly with a grimace and knew he had done the same.
“Sorry,” you whispered.
You couldn’t see it, but he smirked, “I told you you could.”
His eyes opened first, eager to bypass the sudden sensibility so he could look at you as soon as possible. Your eyes and nose were still scrunched, your glasses had fallen lower on your nose than you liked normally, and the top of your cheeks was beautifully blushed. He didn’t resist cupping your cheek to brush his thumb over the red hue and your eyes opened, looking up at him over your glasses. You were so close to each other but you couldn’t look or move away.
“You’re so beautiful,” he breathed, eyes set on yours as if he was seeing stars.
“How can you see anything, we’re so close,” you whined with a huff.
He chuckled, “Yeah?”
You pouted; your glasses were falling down your nose bridge again, and he grinned. He was so unbelievably happy right now, and as you pressed the glasses further up, he wished it would never end.
“Is it…” you were quiet, “better like this?”
“Much better,” he assured confidently, looking into your eyes intently.
Every time you blinked, wherever you glanced, he kept his cool and tried holding his fear in check — what if you suddenly pushed him away, became uneasy, or regretted this?
Yet your eyes fixed on his as your hand returned gently to the side of his neck, “You said… you’re curious about more?”
He couldn’t breathe, “Yes.”
“What… does that mean?”
Your voice was a thread and he swore he became dizzy, “You. I—” His lips twitched as he found words, “I want to be with you.”
He settled on that simple fact and shushed his racing heart. It was too soon to confess how long he had been thinking about this, how far he had fallen, and how deeply sure he was that there was no one else he wanted. Nowhere else he wanted to go, no other person who could be home, no other soul he wanted to share his time with. Shit, this was not the time for a love confession.
“Not in the dark,” you mused, thinking back. “But here,” you searched his eyes with a light line between your eyebrows. “Do you want that? To be… a moment of—”
“No,” he interrupted firmly, making sure that every point you touched each other conveyed that. “I want more than a moment, than one night, than a place, than— No,” he breathed. “I want so much more.”
You weren’t sure there was any reaction you could have given because you were floating again. His arms were around you, his mouth speaking words you had long wished to hear, and you waited. It felt like the right thing to do; you just waited for him to become so much more.
“And you?” He asked after waiting to hear your thoughts. “Where would you take this?”
You almost choked with your instant answer, “All the way.”
His eyebrows jumped before his expression scrunched into a rapturous smile, and you filled your chest with air. You needed it, you needed a big deep breath before the dive. When his forehead touched yours, you stayed close, eyes half-hooding, waiting, and ready. You had been ready for a while, all there was left to do now was fly.
You were waiting for his kiss when he grabbed your head, both of you eager and gentle in your grip on the other. His lips were as soft as before but now he was pressing harder, searching for something in the depths of your kiss, and you met him halfway. There was the passion you had thought of before, making your skin pucker as your breathing dragged. It was curious how you were so focused on every little detail of his — his jawline moving under your fingertips, the soft skin at the column of his neck, his wide shoulders where your arms found support to press him closer to you — but had no actual thoughts. Every brush of his lips had you sinking further, every lick of his tongue had you immersed until his hands were pulling you to him and barely letting you touch the ground.
When your feet did touch the ground you lost your balance a little and inadvertently fell into him, which had him feeling behind him to make sure he could sit down. Your lips parted and he looked up at you, hands supportive but not pressuring you. He waited for you to decide if you’d follow him or not, and you didn’t hesitate. You raised a knee to his outer thigh and he instantly supported it, helping you to straddle him effortlessly before he leaned back into the reading chair.
You towered over him a little bit and as he hugged you close, you couldn’t help remembering how many times you had sat in that same chair just to read. Now he was there with you, under you, kissing your neck gently, and you kissed his head with the excitement bubbling under your skin. This was really happening, you could barely contain yourself.
He pressed you to sit closer to him and you guided him to look up just so you could dive into his kiss again. His skin was so soft, his touch so gentle as he let you steer your mouths until your head started spinning. You went deeper with every kiss, and with every sparkle, you became daring. Your fingers laced around his hair, your breaths one and the same as your hips moved on their own accord to fuse you two into one in any way possible. Your instinct was taking over, regardless of how you ground against him or leaned into him as if it would merge you two together.
You were hot and breathless when you felt a hint of his fingertips brushing the skin at your lower back, and instinctively you pulled back. He looked up at you, instantly wary of mistakenly crossing a line, but in a rustle of clothes, your blouse went up and away, thrown on the floor.
You faced him then, the goosebumps forming on your skin wherever his fingertips brushed your back as you seemed to exude heat. Not even for a moment did you wonder if you were going too far, despite being in a bra only in front of him. Rather you eyed his shirt and pouted, and he got it; in a second it was gone too.
Your lips twitched as you stroked down his neck, over his clavicles, and to his wide shoulders. You knew he’d be perfect, you knew you’d go well beyond liking every inch of him, but reality was far sweeter than your imagination. Before you could lean in and kiss every inch, he beat you to it. His pillowy lips grazed over the expanse of your neck before lowering down your chest and you sank your nails on his shoulders. It was the lightness of his touch, the warmth of his breath contrasting with his tongue as he explored everything until he dared lower. He moved slowly, maybe hesitated, and your hand darting to the back of his head to support him eased him.
He kissed and nuzzled every inch of your chest then settled over your sternum, breathing you in between your breasts just above the center gore. You knew why he stopped, but you were riding the shivers and throbs his every breath drew out of you, and you didn’t want it to stop. You reached behind you and unclasped the bra, letting the straps slide off your arms while you held his gaze. Yes, you wanted to do this. Yes, you wanted him to touch you, to know how he—
His hands over your waist raised to cup your breasts and rub your nipples and you shivered, goosebumps covering you from head to toe. The more he brushed over the hardened tips, the less control you had over a deep whine wanting to escape your lips.
You were biting your lip in this sweet struggle when he glanced up at you before leaning in to take one inside his mouth, and you whined. Your hips bucked over him, drawing closer while your cries grew and expanded with every lick of his tongue. You were grinding hard on him now, unaware of how unruly you were being. Your cries just needed to be heard, your hunger satiated as you searched for friction and wondered why it wasn’t as intense as it should be.
Your chest was wet by the time he parted his mouth from the delicate skin, but you didn’t have time to think about it. His hands gripped your hips to press you closer, and you jumped out of his arms in a mix of outrage and eagerness.
So that was why you couldn’t feel him properly, you concluded, as you unbuttoned your jeans. Of course, how stupid. At least it was easily fixed.
You only stopped when your clothes hit the floor. His eyes locked with yours and you hesitated. You were totally naked in your eagerness, maybe you were going too fast. But his hands guiding yours to his shoulders before he leaned in to kiss over your tummy made you realize you were being silly. His eyes were glistening, looking up at you before closing to enjoy the taste of your skin, his cheeks were red, and despite his pants, the tent was very visible.
You wanted to be close so you raised your knee again, and once more he guided you to straddle him. He kissed quickly up your chest before eying your mouth, and you obliged. Kissing him like this was more vulnerable, open, and raw, but you wanted to. His fingertips stroked your sides softly downwards and you sighed into his mouth, gripping him closer. You wanted so much more.
His hands settled atop your hips and it made you whine and wiggle so they would move. It didn’t occur to you to separate your mouths and tell him to touch you; in fact, no thoughts were occurring to you. He seemed to hesitate on where to go while palming your hips, and in the end, it was your hand that guided him to where you wanted him. You froze amidst your kiss, mouth agape as your eyes opened when his fingers skimmed your sex. A shiver ran down your spine, your breath halting as you waited for him. His eyes were set on you, carefully taking in your expression as he dared to brush lower, exploring down your mound, around your hooded clit, and gently over your folds before retracing his steps.
A strangled quiet moan had you closing your eyes to get lost. His fingers were drawing circles over your clit, ever so gently, prodding how to please you without hurting you, and you sank your nails into the back of his neck. You could worship that man now — it was all you knew as you looked at him between half-hooded eyes. Every circle brought a spark, a throb, a buck of your hips until the tension inside you made you jump away from his touch. You kissed him hard then, grabbing his head desperately — you wanted him, not just his hand.
You reached between your bodies to cup his bulge and he choked in your kiss. You pressed harder, too curious to let him breathe or get away, and searched for a way to open his pants, but it was difficult without looking. Fortunately, it understood perfectly what you wanted and got to it.
He raised you off his lap for the single moment it took him to squirm and slide his clothes down his legs before settling you over him again. His skin was burning hot against your inner thighs and as you kissed him, you imagined it was because he wanted you the same way.
You reached again for him and this time there were no barriers. You felt his hard length gently, caressing its soft skin carefully before stroking him against your palm.
He grunted into your cheek; your lips had parted so you could both focus on those new sensations. Something wet was making it easier to stroke him and press the head gently, with every movement earning you something, whether a groan, a sigh, a twitch of his fingers over your hips, or more precum.
You loved seeing and hearing every reaction, but you didn’t want to wait. You were tense and overheating, and that hard cock in your hand belonged somewhere else.
You moved on your knees to straddle him closer, positioning yourself with nothing but the intention to feel him, but you paused. Before the sight of the pink swollen tip at your entrance could steal your logic, you looked at him with an implied question. He nodded with glistening eyes, hands gripping a bit more of your ass to convey just how much he wanted this. And so you leaned to touch your foreheads before you guided him inside you.
You were unbelievably wet but still, it took a moment for him to become coated enough to slide in without any attrition. It felt like a trial and error; every time you tried sitting lower, there was resistance, and so you raised yourself and tried again. And again and again, with his fingers sinking into your skin as he hid his scrunched-up expression. Your eyebrows were knitted too, especially when he hit a particular spot, and soon he bottomed out.
You wiggled a little to make room, your tension gripping him inside you so hard that both of you groaned. You bucked your hips over him and sighed before reaching back, taking support on his hips. The hunger in his glistening eyes as he observed you taking your pleasure from him was like straight out of a dream, except he was really there, stretching you to the edge, bubbling a tension up your spine so good you knew you wouldn’t last a minute.
So you leaned forward again, palming the expanse of his chest as you let the fluttering subside for a bit. A smile bloomed on your lips as he reached to kiss your skin, supporting you closely while he grazed up your neck. Yet as it had blossomed, your smile faded when your eyebrows knitted further and your pleasure sunk in your gut. He had taken a firmer grip of you and used his leverage to thrust his hips up and into you, successfully crumbling whatever excuse of a restraint you had.
You moaned unreservedly and as he pulled away to face you without relenting, you met him with glistening eyes. It wasn’t a betrayal but because of him, you couldn’t hold back. He understood; he told you with a nod as he tried keeping the rhythm steady for you. So you hugged him to you and let the pleasure spike once, twice, until a moan burst out of you with the knot in your lower gut releasing the tension.
However long it lasted, it was long. It left you powerless and radiating heat like a furnace, only he was even hotter than you. He was sweaty under your arms and legs as you embraced him, and it mixed with your wetness and cum, but you didn’t care.
He waited for you to pull away and kiss his humid forehead before he asked, “Can I take you to bed?”
“Yes,” you sighed, still up high in your haze.
He could tell how languid you were so he picked you up carefully, hugging your legs around his waist and supporting your lower back. His heart was racing as he carried you, not because he was afraid of dropping you — no way in hell that would ever happen — but because this was really happening. He was really carrying your naked body across his apartment, your sweaty bodies pressed together after you reached your pleasure in his arms only for him to take you to bed and continue to show you how much he cared for you. He sighted the bed when your limbs squeezed him more firmly and he smiled from ear to ear. It was like carrying a koala bear who didn’t want to let go of him, and he loved that.
He sat on the bed with you on his lap before carefully supporting your back so he could lay you down gently while hovering over you and you finally blinked.
Your senses were coming back; Namjoon was over you, caging you between his biceps while your legs laced around him. He was inside you, and even if you had forgotten, he reminded you when he moved tentatively. Your eyes were set on his, and that was how you saw the concern crossing them, and you blinked again. You and him were connected like you had only ever dreamed, and it was good. You reached to cup his cheeks and guide his mouth to yours; you wanted him to know that. That you knew what you were doing, with whom, and how, and your heart was completely in it.
If he wasn’t kissing your lips, then he was pecking the tip of your nose, grazing your cheeks, or brushing down the column of your neck as his hips gained speed. You raised yours to feel him as deep as possible, and as you held onto him, you let the emotions flood you. The safety of his arms, the completeness as he filled up all the gaps, the nurture of every tender kiss, the shared warmth, tension, and torture of your bodies rocking together. You were meshed inextricably in an ascent that you had never dared to imagine, and you grabbed him even harder, in case the intensity had you floating away.
Your voice had a life of its own; every time he sank further into you, your soul expanded. Every time he buried himself inside you, your moan released into his ear, and over and over again as he hid in your neck, revering you in all the ways he could.
“You feel so good,” he rasped against your throat, and against all odds you heard it in between moans. Maybe because he was slowing down. He pulled away to face you so closely you saw him blurred despite your glasses, “I don't want it to end.”
Your eyes widened and watered but no words came out in time; he pressed your lips sweetly and you buried your fingers in his hair, feeling your heart swelling with every beat. He restarted his hips, guided by your legs pressing him into you, and you thought that nothing else mattered than him knowing. You also didn’t want it to end, you wanted to stay with him forever, linked, safe, accepted, hidden from anything that wasn’t blissful peace, and happiness.
His hips snapping into yours brought groans, moans, and whines out of the both of you, with wet sloppy sounds echoing in the bedroom along with the slaps of skins colliding. It became fast, forcing you to wrap your limbs around him firmly to never miss any sensation he could give you until you tensed unbelievably.
You surrendered to your climax immediately, letting it wash over you as you throbbed and reveled in scream-inducing spasms. He grunted and swore into your neck, but to your surprise, he didn’t come with you. On the contrary, suddenly you could feel his intent to pull out so you crossed your legs behind him and searched for his ear so you could tell him, “Inside me. Stay inside me.”
He groaned and you rocked with him, keen on extending both your pleasure as much as possible when he twitched inside you. You closed your eyes and his lips immediately caught yours. He kissed you with every peak, groaning into your mouth at every turn, making you shudder.
He stilled and you kept petting his damp hair at the back of his head, slowly waiting for both your hearts to calm down. You couldn’t believe what just happened yet at the same time it felt as natural as breathing.
Finally, he moved from the crook of your neck and faced you. A single drop of sweat dripped along his nose to the tip and you caught it with your fingertip. He nuzzled you then, recovering his breath with a tender smile, and you smiled back.

“This is illegal?” You raised your brows, finger enveloped around the cigarette stick. Namjoon smoked beside you, “Yes because we’re doing this on private property.” You chuckle, inhaling and blowing out smoke. “Fuck, this feels even more better when I do this on a private fuckin’ property.” Namjoon rolled his eyes, “did you even understand what I meant?”
He looks at you, you pout at him. “No.” He chuckles, ironically. Looking down at your legs beside his, in a frivolous skirt, thighs glistening with the orange sunlight. He bites his lip, looking ahead instead. You inhale the cigarette one more time, “Jungkook invited me to his birthday party.” He raised his brows, “Jungkook? That dickhead?”
You rolled your eyes, clicking your tongue in dismissal. “Stop calling him a dickhead, he’s cute.” “He’s failing school, what’s even cute about him?” You squint at him, “Not everyone wants to be a fucking topper, Joon. Get a grip.” He dismissively shook his head, “isn’t that what should be the priority though?” You grunt in frustration, “Shut up!”
He chuckled, “What? Are you going?” You threw the cigarette and smashed it with your shoes, “definitely!” You twirl a bit, standing in front of him as he raises his brows at you. “If someone finds out, you’re going to jail.” You shove a middle finger on his face, “Girl, i’on care!” You say and pout, looking around.
“Should we steal this car?”
“Y/n are you fucking crazy?” He says, still leaning against the dark blue shiny car.
“What? Isn’t it cute?”
He scoffed, “Dumb fuck, you wanna be a criminal so bad.”
You pout, “I’m your dumb fuck though.”
He chuckled, seeing you act like a kid. High a bit due to the smoke in your lungs.
“By the way!” You bend a little, he eyes your chest. Clearing his throat, trying to look away but you just lean a bit more. “Are you coming?” You flutter your lashes as he looks at your face, “at his birthday party?” You nod your head, he clicks his tongue “No.” Your pout Widened, “why?!”
Standing straight, stomping like a kid. “I’ve shit to do, girl. Especially when we have a test coming up.” You rolled your eyes and shoved his shoulder, “C’mon Joon! It’d be fun!” You whined, he squints. He prefers the way you whine to him, more than quite anything else In the world. He doesn’t answer as you sigh, “Really? He loves you.”
“Who?”
“Jungkook! Don’t you know he’s gay?”
He squints, “What are you saying?” He asks as if what-the-fuck.
“No, he once told me in the cafeteria. He was bi way before but lately, he’s into dudes. Like Legit. He even asked about your number!”
“I hope you didn’t give it to him—“
“I did!”
And his phone rang.
You smirk, seeing him exhaustively put his phone down. “So are you still not coming?” “No.” You grunt, “y’know what? Fuck you bruh. I’m being so nice to you!” You scold, hands on your waist as he chuckled at your cuteness. “Don’t you have a week of homework piled up?” You shrugged, “I’ll copy yours.”
He shook his head, “Girl do you even wanna have a career?” You clicked your tongue, “not the time. Tell me are you in or not? I’d be better pulling In Jin with me if you’re not.” He stands up, “is he gay too?” He drops the cigar, “Dude shut up. He’s a heartthrob. I honestly kinda like him too.” You shyly smile as namjoon walks toward you, “No, I’ll be there to pick you up.”
You pout, “Aww. Little Joonie is finally going to have fun.” You pinch his nose and run away, he sighs, “My god, y/n.”
At about nine on the same night, namjoon horned his car ahead of your dorm. Received a call instead from you, “I’m already at the party! Don’t go to the dorm!” Loud music bangs in the background, “Whom did you go with?” “Jin! He came early! Just come over!” Namjoon clenched his jaw, hanging up and speeding his car to the party venue.
When stepped inside the sweaty, velvety walls congested with people— he knew it was going to be a task to find you. What was even more Satire is that he wore a black suit, while people around him were dressed up as animals. He frowned, “what bullshit is this?” He pierced through the crowd, girls dressed up as different characters with bunny and fairy masks on, swaying their hips at the slutty music behind.
Boys on bar counters, drinking in their little club. “Y/n?!” He yells through, “namjoon!” His ear twitched as he looked to his left, you waved your hand at him. Big white bunny ears, the smallest top he’s ever seen on you and a pair of shorts that gave a view of half of your ass. Jin beside you, drinking and eyeing you up and down.
Namjoon seeped through, pushing people harshly beside them. “Why didn’t you wait for me?” He glared at you, and you blinked. “What? I thought you changed your mind when you didn’t reply to my texts. Check your phone, I sent you so many messages about it.” He fumed, “You should’ve called instead.” You slightly scoffed, a little embarrassed about his behaviour.
“What are you even getting mad at?!” He sighs, trying to calm down. “Studious little Joon can’t handle his bimbo best friend having fun.” Jin sipped his beer as namjoon glared at him, “What did you just tell her?” He pushed Jin on the chest. “What? Isn’t she a little dumb bitch ready to be fucked by anyone and everyone?” Namjoon held his collar, “mind your language, fucktard.”
“Namjoon!” You held his arms, Jin gulped and glared at namjoon. Harshly pushing Jin away, he held your hand and took you out instead. “Where are we going—“ and the only thing namjoon did was pin you against the doors and kiss you sloppily. You flutter close your lashes and hold his soft hair, kissing him back. Though you were confused the moment why he would do that, it seemed like an obvious thing now.
He pulses away, one hand Beneath your ass and one over your neck. “You’re not allowed to be with anyone. Only I have the right to call you a little bimbo, hmm?” You flutter your lashes, a little shy. Giggling like a girl instead, you leaned in and kissed him again. A little more passionate and sloppy this time.
He smiles in the midst, picking you up and taking you to his car, “You’re getting fucked tonight.” You smooch his lips, thighs being squished by his palms. “Glad to hear that.”

masterpost series masterlist
-
fate used to amuse you, the concept of people, the many people, their many stories, their many love stories, some that made sense to you, some that seemed like absolute madness, but all of them stories you sat and listened to, you sat and read about because stories to you, were a window to what life could be.
and your life changed when namjoon entered it. it seemed like too much of the world aligned so that you would fall for him, it seemed like madness, and it made perfect sense.
everything that happened after meeting him, was truly out of your hands.
-
it was an off day at work. you hummed as you breezed past the shelves of books surrounding you, nothing brought you more peace than this.
today, your mission was to find a particular book.
at the end of the matinee by keiichiro hirano.
the book was about two people, close to their forties in age, who fall in love, but with the caution, wariness, and desperation that comes with that age. one of them was a world-renowned ‘genius’ guitarist whereas the other was a trauma journalist, their universes couldn’t be more different but seemed to align just for them. when you had heard about it, you knew immediately you had to read it, it was this concept of love that you had never explored before.
your eyes darted to every title as quickly as they could, but you could feel yourself getting impatient as you passed by more shelves, none of them had the book you wanted.
the front desk lady lied when she reassured you that it was in row 3, you were in row 15 now and it was nowhere to be found.
a deep irritation settled under your skin as you cursed the skies and stars for doing this to you, you continued your grumbling as you sat down with a huff at a table. of course, two good things, a day off and the book you so desperately wanted, wouldn’t happen all at once to you. rarely, one good thing happened to you in a day so, this was nothing new.
but still, you were so invested in the world of that book, that you wanted to dive into that world and never float back up because a love so tender, at an age where everything feels the same and your skin sheds its youth, fascinated you.
and today, you won’t get to dive in, you won’t get to be lost in a world that didn’t belong to you.
“excuse me, that’s my seat.” a hush of a voice filled your ears. you immediately removed yourself from the seat and moved a seat up, scrolling on your phone aimlessly.
maybe you will find another book.
maybe there is another world that you could live in, for now.
then, it hits you.
the scent of something soft, a cloud, a pillow. the scent wraps around you, taking you with its softness. you know that scent.
you peek up to see a man next to you. he was wearing a baby blue sweatshirt, matching sweatpants, a baseball cap, and a mask.
the softness that distracted you.
and in his hands, he held the book that you were wishing the gods above and below for.
you know those hands.
he was the one who took your precious book before you did?
you didn’t own it by any means but that didn’t mean you weren’t highly frustrated that it ended up in his hands, of everyone else.
“you.” you said, as calmly as you could.
namjoon bites back a grin at the frustration in your voice. “yes?”
“you know i’ve been looking for this namjoon, this isn’t fair.” you bark out, leaning forward to grab the book from him but he just holds it above himself, knowing you won’t be able to reach it. you sink back into your seat with a frown on your face and namjoon sighs.
he’s never had a problem telling someone no, in fact, he’s enjoyed turning down some overly excited people but when it came to you, denying you of something just wasn’t possible for him, even if it was as a joke.
the book plopped in front of you and your frown immediately melted, and you grabbed it into your arms, namjoon rolled his eyes with a fond smile growing on his face.
“give it to me when you come over someday.”
your relationship with namjoon was hard to describe, you were sort-of friends, sort-of friends who had read books together, sort-of friends who hung out without saying a word, and sort-of friends who occasionally had sex.
it all started when a mutual friend introduced you to him at a horrid party that you hated being at, namjoon hated it too and he made that clear, so you decided to spend your time doing something else.
and soon, it became a regular occurrence and it was working well, you two understood what the other wanted and had no qualms about giving it to them.
namjoon pulled out his book as well and you peeked at it curiously.
lovers in the night by mieko kawakami.
strange.
you added that book to your to-read list yesterday.
“you can just ask to see it if you want, you know?” he tuts at you teasingly, watching your eyes dart towards his book, you scoff at him and sink into your seat.
then, there was silence, only the sound of pages turning and both of your breaths coming out in the space. you liked that, you never had to talk to namjoon to be present with him and so far, this arrangement worked perfectly for you.
but you caught yourself peeking in his direction again, this time, it wasn’t his book, it was him, the way he sat, the way he turned the pages sharply, the way his breath came out slow and you had no excuse for your curiosity.
“tonight, your place?” his question came casually and you nodded as soon as the words left him.
you couldn’t help but think that you had agreed too quickly.
-
“i don’t understand the point of this movie” you say to namjoon, lying across his chest and your body shakes with his as a low laugh tumbles out of him. he has come to be extremely fond of your quick irritation to things.
“you read so much romance, i thought you would’ve gotten it by now” he sips his wine and you feel the urge to tip it over his white sweatshirt, just for his sarcastic tone. namjoon sees the glare on your face and feels the strangest satisfaction wash over him.
“don’t make me pour the bottle on you.” you eye the bottle that was near your feet and he promptly reaches out to put it near him with a tut which makes you giggle.
chungking express wasn’t your usual movie.
there was no rosy romance filled with confessions and promises.
there were just stolen glances, just hoping that someone else wouldn’t take them, just the characters in a world that changed too quickly, just memories that never faded.
it both fascinated and confused you.
why did love have to be so confusing?
if two people liked each other, was it so hard to just say the words and be together?
why did anything else matter?
he notices your confusion, the deep frown on your face is a dead giveaway, and namjoon, shamefully admits to himself, that he finds it cute.
“i can hear your mind all the way here” namjoon taps your temple and you shift to sit with a groan. “i just don’t understand what’s so hard.”
he already wanted to pull you back on his chest but he clears his throat instead.
“please fill me in.”
“if she likes him, why didn’t she just tell him?” you point to the character who was now staring adoringly at her lover, this was just one out of the many times that they’d met and she was yet to make a move.
namjoon stares at the character, all of the words she wants to say die inside of her but her eyes stay alive with the love she holds for her object of admiration.
“i guess it’s not so easy.”
“what is not easy about just saying the words?” you rolled your eyes.
namjoon’s answer is quick, maybe too quick, “i don’t know, giving someone a piece of your most vulnerable form is scary, there is always fear in affection.”
he leaned back uncomfortably after saying it, not knowing if he should’ve said anything at all.
but to you, something about the way namjoon spoke, always put you in a daze. you never heard someone talk the way he did and you weren’t supposed to like the way he talked. “you sound like the wise tortoise from kung fu panda.” you snicker at him instead of blurting out that his words warmed your heart.
in a world where affection and love were dying, namjoon gave a more comforting reason as to why it was dying, maybe it wasn’t the factual reason, but it helped you feel better anyway.
he scrunches his eyebrows and scoffs at you, “he’s my favorite character so, fuck you.” you laugh at his annoyed face and throw your legs over his feet, he adjusts himself and you sink into the side of his arm. namjoon could feel his body wanting you closer but he resisted, he held his arm above you and over the sofa and shoved his desires in deep.
the movie was long, you didn’t particularly like it, and you never understood why people had such a hard time figuring out their feelings but namjoon didn’t have to know. and as soon as the movie ended, he got up to leave.
“you can pick the movie next time,” he says as he puts on his shoes, looking up at you with a knowing grin. “i liked it!” you tried to save your face, following him to the main door.
well, he liked that you were at least pretending to not completely hate it, for his sake.
namjoon turns to you with a quirked eyebrow, finding it all so amusing, and before he can stop himself, he steps closer and places a single kiss on your forehead and just as quickly, steps away.
that wasn’t supposed to happen.
he doesn’t know what came over him.
“i saw you yawn five times in ten minutes, we’ll watch kung fu panda next time.” he snickered with an uneasy feeling settled in his stomach and rushed out the door, to make sure he didn’t do anything again.
and you stand, shell-shocked.
that was not a big deal.
a kiss on the forehead.
not a big deal at all.
it was not a big deal that your hands were clenched by your sides.
it was not a big deal that your cheeks stayed burning hot.
it was not a big deal that your feet refused to move away from where he left.
this shouldn’t be happening.
you guys never just watched a movie, it always led to something more but it wasn’t even in your minds today and that wasn’t okay.
you needed to remind him that your hangouts were for sex only and it can’t be anything else. you needed to remind namjoon that you were getting off track, which was unacceptable.
that night, namjoon dreamt of you in his arms, just you in his arms, that was unacceptable.
but that night, your hands reached to caress the spot where you still felt his lips. and that was also unacceptable.
-
you didn’t text him after that, it wasn’t intentional or anything, you just felt that things shifted that night and you didn’t like it, a little distance would set things right back to the way they were.
casual and easy.
because that’s why you two worked, it was always casual and easy with namjoon.
and you hated to admit this to yourself, but you missed him.
which wasn’t so casual and easy.
you checked every post he made on instagram, every story that he uploaded, every song he recommended, and you still answered when he texted you but you let the message hover in your notification board for a few hours and gave every excuse possible to not meet him.
and this was supposed to be easy, you never felt the need to hang out or be with namjoon before, but that feeling was growing as the days passed, without a feel of his skin, without his gaze on you, without his slow laughter flowing through your room.
you wondered how it was for namjoon, maybe he was okay, maybe he didn’t care at all, maybe he was with someone else already and that was all fine, it was how things should be.
“people do fall in love. people do belong to each other because that's the only chance that anyone's got for true happiness.”
paul from breakfast at tiffany’s spoke on the screen, he looked angry but his words plead with his lover to agree with him, to let him sweep her off her feet, he needs her to understand that they are meant to be, even if she tried to deny it, even if she believes in a world where love didn’t exist.
you watched with teary eyes as they both ended up kissing in the rain with all their love pouring into each other.
it made you feel bitter.
it made you feel…empty.
you ignore it.
with an uneasy feeling crawling down your chest, you pull out your phone and your finger immediately reaches for the instagram icon. you waste no time clicking the circle around namjoon’s profile.
god bless him for being so active.
he was at a bar, not too far away from here and he was smiling, surrounded by a large group of friends.
the uneasiness in your chest let up a bit as your lips tugged into a smile too, namjoon’s always had a nice smile.
you really wanted to see him.
as much as it killed you to come to terms with that, every inch of you was trying to run away and find him, melt in him, let him talk through the night about things you never quite understood but enjoyed listening to.
or maybe your forehead just wanted another kiss, maybe your body just wanted company for tonight, maybe you just needed him for the exact benefits your situation rewarded you with.
maybe meeting him wouldn’t be such a bad idea, after all, you two had an arrangement for a reason, to give your bodies to each other.
but he was with his friends, it would be quite rude and obnoxious of you to just ask him to get out of it and meet you, just because you feel more needy than usual.
there were other ways though.
you didn’t have to go for him at all.
it was dinnertime, you were too lazy to cook, it could just be that you were hungry and decided to pick up some food. isn’t it so convenient that the place so close to you with food also has namjoon in it? but it wasn’t about him at all, the last thing on your mind.
a solid plan, if you could say so yourself.
-
a gush of wind pushed past you as you stood before the door to the restaurant that held namjoon on the other side. the stars were hard to see as you looked up and took a few deep breaths, it’s been so long since you’ve seen him, so long since you’ve heard his voice, so long since you’ve touched him.
(it’s been two weeks, actually.)
did you want to do this?
is this how you wanted to see him again, with some elaborate ruse?
the answer was yes.
yes, you wanted to do this and yes, this was how you wanted to see him again because you quite literally couldn’t figure out another way to see him.
texting and asking to meet was so old-fashioned.
the loud ring of the bell above your head, made you flinch as you pushed in and a string of greetings from the waiters came toward you, you politely greeted them back but your fingers twitched as you started looking for the person you had come all dolled up for.
you mean, the dish you couldn’t wait to take home and scarf down.
you quickly stepped to the counter where the menu lay and started flipping through it, not caring or seeing anything.
then you heard it.
his laughter.
which through all the noise, somehow made it to your ears.
maybe you had been paying extra attention to hear him somewhere but for now, you will just say that his laughter was too loud because why would you want to hear him when you were here for something else?
nevertheless, a look wouldn’t hurt anyone. you could just see him, satisfy this urge in you, and go back home with warm food.
if you remember the story right (you did, you rewatched it fifty times), namjoon was sitting towards the left side with a group of around six people so, you slyly scanned the left side with eagle eyes.
one quick look.
and nothing else.
and.
nothing.
else.
you told yourself that, ordered yourself that you would not be talking to namjoon.
and there he was.
your breath paused.
he didn’t look anything different from the ordinary.
he was wearing his beige trousers and t-shirt, he was wearing his worn-out beanie, he was laughing with the people around him and it was so simple, so ordinary, a scene that you would see anywhere in any restaurant.
but you wanted to run to him and hold him close, let him warm you, let him run his fingers through your hair, let him never let you go.
and you knew how dangerous it was to feel this way and how this would end for you.
that’s when you saw it.
the fear in affection, that namjoon had so gently explained to you the other day.
your “quick look” lasted more than a few minutes but you were having trouble peeling your eyes away from him.
that was until, you saw his body sit straighter and start looking around, as if he could sense someone’s gaze on him (that was on you, you were probably burning holes into him with your eyes) and you turned your body completely to the other side.
you were just overthinking it, there’s no way namjoon would sense someone casually glancing at him.
“i’ll take this to go, please” you whispered to the person at the counter while hurriedly pointing to some random dish on the menu. they looked at you with an uneasy smile and nodded slowly, you must look crazy to them.
but that didn’t matter, as long as you got your food and you got the hell out of here before namjoon noticed you, you were good with whatever they thought of you.
you scrolled through your phone, still facing fully away from him, and waited for your order to come, your foot tapping restlessly against the floor.
you kept waiting.
and waiting.
and waiting.
why were they taking so long?
the pace at which your foot tapped against the floor increased as you started to grow anxious.
you couldn’t stay forever, namjoon might finish his dinner, he might walk out, passing right by you and you would have to talk then and that was just-
“what are you doing, standing here?”
the tapping of your foot stopped.
exactly what you were dreading.
or exactly what you were hoping for.
you are not sure which one it is anymore.
“oh hey.” you turn around with a lame wave of your hand at the man that you don’t know what you feel for. he was looking at you with crinkled eyes and a teasing smile that picked his cheeks up and made them round.
get a grip.
“you know, the chairs at a restaurant are for sitting.” you follow his gaze to the chairs lined up near the counter.
……
you had nothing to say to that.
“i came to pick up dinner, what are you doing here?” you asked, as if you didn’t know already and he pointed towards the table that you were staring at earlier. “just with a couple of friends, do you want to join us?”
it was your rule, one that you had established wordlessly, stating clearly that you were not meant to hang out with each other’s friends but you always had wondered what namjoon was like around his friends.
was he just as snarky?
was he just as wise?
did he have an answer to everything for them as well?
you let him take your hand and walk you to the loud table, the food that you hadn’t noticed, grew cold on the counter.
-
“namjoon used to be so uptight then, he didn’t even help us on the test, he told us, ‘ey, i won’t be there in the future to help you out, so figure your shit out’, and he said this for one math problem, for one stupid test!” his friend, yoongi, barked out with a deepened voice to imitate namjoon and you loved every minute of it, as your head fell back in laughter.
namjoon smiled sheepishly, though his eyes threw daggers at yoongi and hid his face behind his huge hands, turning away from you.
you found that especially adorable.
“what a narc” you shoved his shoulder and, everyone erupted into loud laughter around the table. namjoon squinted his eyes and tried to give you an intimidating glare, which soon melted into a smile when you raised your eyebrows at him.
it felt so good.
he had his arm around your shoulder, you were almost buried into his side, the soft scent of his perfume enveloped around you and his friends seemed to love you. and the best of all, his eyes gazed over you constantly, to check on you or look at you, you had no idea but you enjoyed the attention nonetheless.
only if what you had was real, only if you knew namjoon as much as they seemed to, only if you could grab his neck and kiss him.
you shook your head at those thoughts, whatever this comfort zone was, it was only for tonight, you would never hang out with his friends again or be around him in this way again. you were only allowing this for tonight.
but.
you liked this so much.
“you good?” namjoon pulled you in closer to whisper to you, his eyes assessing the frown growing on your face.
no, i suddenly want to know everything about you, after ages of being fine with knowing nothing.
“yeah, all good” you smiled at him, tipping back your glass to hide the building tension in your throat. everyone around the table started standing up and namjoon pulled you up as well, but his hand stayed around you, holding you gently yet in a way that wouldn’t make it too easy for you to let go.
“it was so nice meeting you.” another friend of his, seokjin, wrapped you in a hug as namjoon’s arm stayed around your back, you smiled and hugged everyone else, as much as you could with his arm on you and they started waving their goodbyes, leaving you and namjoon.
you didn’t want to say ‘well, good to see you, let’s go back to fucking next week’, you didn’t want to wave goodbye and leave the warmth that radiated off namjoon, you didn’t want to go home, and think too much about his hand on your waist.
and namjoon surprised you.
“your place?” he asked, leading you out into the cold night as well and you felt the weight of all your doubts levitate off you, you tried to not agree too quickly but you couldn’t help but nod eagerly which made him smile in response, pulling you in tighter.
you two walked leisurely, with all the time in the world in your hands, and the night got darker, colder, and namjoon’s grip on you got tighter, warmer.
you didn’t speak a word, only stole glances at his side profile every once in a while, to make sure that somehow you hadn’t conjured this from your dreams, that this was reality and namjoon was here.
“what’s on your mind?” he catches your eyes, which were admiring his jaw and you look away, wanting to disappear into the night. he tugs on your hand, to urge you to answer him and you do, “your friends are hilarious, i had a very good time so thank you for inviting me.” the ‘thank you’ came out more awkwardly than you had thought.
but thankfully, namjoon found you endearing so he laughs at your scrunched-up face.
“i mean you were right there, i wasn’t going to let you go and eat alone in your apartment. but what a coincidence, right? us turning up at the same place. besides, i was going to ask you to meet them soon anyway.” he had a lovely smile on his face, he seemed to find the idea very charming, that you had somehow stumbled on each other and a pang of guilt shot through you for orchestrating the whole thing.
and the guilt worsened as the television played mindlessly in the background, as your body tangled around his, as his breath came too close, too loud, and his hands gripped onto your hair. you felt him everywhere and nowhere around you, it unnerved you.
you pulled apart hastily, the simple, harmless lie you told was enough to put some invisible wall between you and him. it felt wrong that he thought it was some sweet moment but it wasn’t.
namjoon immediately retracted, pulling his hands to himself but remaining close as he watched your reaction carefully, “do you want me to leave? because it’s okay if you’re not in the mood or don’t want me around right now, i get it.” the sound of his even breaths, his soothing tone, forced you to look at him.
“i lied,” you expected it to be harder to tell him but it wasn’t, namjoon sat up with an eyebrow quirked up as you explained to him that your turning up at the pub was no coincidence, that you had come there after seeing his instagram story.
“that’s it?” you nodded, skin burning with embarrassment, only looking up when you heard his low, amused laughter. namjoon shook his head at you, “but why? you can always call me, you know, i loved that you met them and had a good time.” he reached over to shut off the television and pull your legs from under you and onto his lap, his fingers tapped your thighs as you fell back on the sofa, covering your face with your hands.
“i felt like i couldn’t,” maybe it was because your voice sounded so small, maybe because he finally saw how truly upset you were about this but namjoon pulled you back and rested your head on his shoulder, “you always can, it doesn’t matter how or what or where we are, just call me and i’ll be here to finish all of your wine,” though you laughed at his words and buried yourself further into his collarbone, you knew you weren’t telling him the simple truth.
that night, once again, you didn’t do anything, you absentmindedly watched some movie, you crawled into bed next to him, he kissed your forehead, and fell asleep.
“namjoon?” you whispered against his snores, he stirred ever so slightly, hands reaching up to pat where you were sleeping, hands relaxing when they touched you.
“yeah?” he groaned into the pillow, “i came because,” you started, words swallowing down your throat, words flying out of your mouth.
“yeah?” this time, he looked up with squinted, sleepy eyes, and your heart drowned in adoration at the sight.
because i missed you.
it was simple words but how awful would it be, if you uttered them, and your heart that was drowning with adoration now, would have nothing to drown for?
“i just wanted to see you,” because you missed him so desperately, and a text or call wouldn’t have fed the hunger your longing left you with.
“i’m glad, because i missed you,” he kissed your shoulder and turned away to continue his slumber.
and left you with the same simple words you had been too scared to utter.
somehow, namjoon always voiced the simple words, even if they were naked, he voiced them as if it was nothing to put your bleeding heart out on your sleeve because missing someone was intimate, it was dangerous.
and that’s when your heart drowns again, you finally realize that namjoon has gotten closer to you.
a little too close.
-
what does it take for a person to be close?
is it the physical distance that lessens with every breath?
is it the emotional distance that connects you with an invisible string from miles away?
being close to someone is a fickle thing.
a person who knows everything about you, may not feel close.
but a person who tries to know you, may feel close.
namjoon feels close.
nights pass where the line between what you and namjoon were and what you were supposed to be, blurred to oblivion. you stopped questioning what it was, you stopped counting the beats your heart skipped every time he showed up at your door.
this night, both physically and emotionally, namjoon is close.
“why do you always read romantic books?” he hums, casually, as things have always been between you two as his hand lazily runs across your hair. he isn’t prying, it’s just a mild curiosity.
but it’s a question no one’s ever asked you.
you read romance to feel the love you yearn for.
that is your answer, there is a yearning in you that isn’t quenched by anything else except books that put your longing in words. it’s an answer you can’t give to namjoon.
“they’re just fun” you shrug, looking up and hoping he would buy your lie. he does not, he doesn’t try to hide that he doesn’t believe you but with a small smile and shake of his head, he lets you live with the lie.
“the real thing’s more fun.”
you remained silent.
you hugged him closer.
you didn’t sleep that night.
-
“have you got everything?” namjoon said, as he loaded your bags into the back of his car, “you helped me pack yesterday, namjoon, and you drilled my head for hours after to make sure of it,” you rolled your eyes at him, and he chuckled, patting your head, “just checking.”
you ignored the rush of warmth that filled your fingertips and your toes, you and namjoon were heading out of the city, into a tiny, charming town with his friends where you would spend about four days in a cabin there.
and yes, you know what it sounds like but when you received a call from namjoon, his excited, hopeful voice, you could imagine his face reflecting all of that, and you couldn’t say no.
the drive up is short, you sleep through it and namjoon plays soothing songs to avoid waking you up. the cabin is beautiful but you already know that from pictures and upon arrival, you are greeted with loud shouts and long hugs from his friends, you almost melt from all the affection they shower you with.
“this is for you,” yoongi hums as he drops a keycard into the palm of your hands before disappearing into his room and you trudge up the stairs to reach yours.
of course, you aren’t surprised when you see namjoon unpacking his clothes into drawers once you open the door, you know you had to share a room with him, considering that you are a guest on this trip.
it did make you reluctant at first but now, you were just waiting for your feelings to set you ablaze to make themselves known.
“hey, you” namjoon sings as he walks past you, but not without dropping a kiss on your temple that has your shoulders stiffening and your face tingling. “we’re going out in a bit to start a barbeque, see you there?”
you nod, your stomach reeling from the subtle touch of his hands that brush your arms before walking out the door.
you fall on the bed with your head in your hands, on days like these, you wish you could walk up to namjoon and ask him, what did you mean to him? did he think of you in the darkness of the night? did he want you around always?
because you did.
but you couldn’t ask.
-
drinks were passed, fairy lights descended on you, and soft singing filled the air.
“and our wise namjoon was just telling us what love is,” yoongi dramatically gestured to his red-faced, swaying friends and your ears picked up, hoseok groaned, “what did he say though?”
“that love is wanting to know someone more every day,” hoots and cheers and teases filled the air as namjoon buried his face into the side of your arm and complained endlessly under his breath.
you tried to laugh but you wanted to know everything about namjoon, what did that say about you?
and he asked you about yourself all the time, what did that say about him?
the question left you uneasy and annoyed.
“there’s a lake just around here,” jungkook looked at everyone around him with a suspicious glint shining in his eyes, then he got up, “race you there!” he yelled and took off, heavy feet thudding on the soft ground and everyone squealed in delight as they followed him.
namjoon pulled your hand with his as the cold air rushed over your face, a smile was frozen on your face and you ran until your lungs burned. it was out of a movie, the way your hair flowed, the way your laughs blended into the night, the way namjoon couldn’t stop looking at you.
then, as you expected, jungkook got pushed into the lake, he surfaced to yell at jimin only to break into giggles, and soon, everyone was trying to push everyone.
but namjoon only wanted to push you.
you ran around, escaping his touch in mere seconds, looking back breathlessly to see if he was near, and when he did catch you, he didn’t just throw you in, he threw both of you together.
you fell into the water, a laughing, bumbling mess but as cold as the night was, namjoon was warm so you snuggled into his neck and he held you with strong arms that wouldn’t let you drown.
close.
namjoon was so close.
“oh god, the couple’s at it again,” jin groaned and splashed water on the two of you and namjoon laughed out loud, pushing more water onto jin’s face.
but jin was wrong.
“we’re not a couple,” you nervously laughed, hands instinctively loosening around namjoon’s neck and he froze under you, his hands loosening around you as well as he cleared his throat.
jin swam away before he had to deal with the tension between you two.
namjoon’s arms left your body and you felt something break inside you as he pulled himself out of the water and wordlessly offered you, his hand. you grabbed it unsurely, not looking at him either.
you both didn’t speak at all until you reached your room.
-
“why did you say that?”
“say what?” you sat on the bed, picking on the lint that gathered on the sheets, unwilling to look at him.
“don’t act like you don’t know what i’m talking about, you’re smarter than that and i know it,” namjoon pinned you with serious eyes, making your heart burn in your chest, “but we’re not a couple.” you whisper, hands tightening on the sheets.
namjoon sighed, a heavy sigh, a sigh that conveyed irritation, disappointment, and restrained anger.
“i don’t understand why you’re upset, we are not a couple,” your irritation reared its head and namjoon shook his head, sitting beside you.
“are we not?” his question is breathless, lifeless, it’s waiting for you to revive it, pour life into it, and your eyes water without any command from you.
you think of the nights you spent together, the laughs you laughed together, the meals you’ve eaten together, the words that grow into a tower between you two and you think, yes, perhaps you are a couple without ever knowing it.
but it wasn’t supposed to be this.
“we had an arrangement,” you fight on, “which went to shit the second you met my friends,” he counters and you bite your lip, annoyed.
“i didn’t plan for that to happen.”
“but it happened.”
“do you really not know?” he asks again, and you know what he’s going to say, you turn away, legs coming to close around your chest.
his eyes widened and with a smile filled that held gentle surprise, he spoke as if his own words shocked him, as if he couldn’t believe he brought them to life.
“i like you. no actually, i love you.”
“don’t.”
namjoon moves away, physically his body flinches from you.
you silently crawl up on the bed and lay your head on the pillow, you gather your courage which crumbles when he comes up too and his hands find yours, he squeezes in question, what do you mean?
why did it have to be him, of all people?
“don't like me cause i don't know how to like you back, not in the way you want and not in the way that will ever be enough for you,” you say quickly, wanting this torture inside you to give up and go home, so you can finally be at peace with yourself.
it took all of two minutes for namjoon to remove himself from you.
and he left you in the bed, you clutched the pillowcase as you heard his footsteps recede from the room and you flinched when the door shut.
you cried, you put your arms around yourself and cradled your face to sleep, maybe it would be nice to feel someone else hold you but you couldn't let that be namjoon, it had to be someone that you could hurt and be okay with it.
-
namjoon was ignoring you, he didn’t come back to the room that night and now, he was sitting a few feet away from you and you couldn’t ignore the way everyone glanced between you two.
“the fireworks will start at 8, everyone be back by then,” jin announced, receding from the gathering and going back into the home.
“come, okay? we’ve got drinks and food,” jungkook squeezed your shoulder as he walked past, of course, he noticed you and namjoon not talking and he was sweet for making sure you were coming. you gave him a weak smile and nod.
when you reach the place where fireworks are supposed to light up the sky, there’s only namjoon on the bench that was too long for just one person.
there was so much space.
there was so much place.
but you didn’t fit in there, not next to him.
your hands wrung the cardigan dangling on your arms as a sharp exhale tried to stabilize you.
you turn around to leave but stop in your tracks when his eyes fall on the back of your head. even without looking back, you know he’s seen you and if you left, you would feel even more pathetic.
“don’t go,” he whispers, it’s hard to hear him over the crickets chirping but his voice finds its way to you and you want to cry again, “even if we’re not talking, don’t go.”
so, you stay.
you look at the lake in front of namjoon and he looks at the empty bench next to him, he knows who should be there and you know who shouldn’t be there.
even far away, his presence suffocates you, not in a dangerous way, but in a way that you would forever want to be suffocated.
everyone else arrives loudly, carrying cans of beer and packets of food and some of them sit down, jungkook and jimin are kind enough to stand next to you and keep you company but even they know where you should’ve been instead.
the rest of the night, you remember in gaps.
you remember looking at his hand when everyone looked at the fireworks, you remember the way his face lit up with a thousand colors, you remember the way his voice cheered at the sight in the sky, you remember the way his skin traveled and embraced his body.
how was something as ordinary as skin, so extraordinary when it came to him?
you wanted to become one, to melt into him and never come back to your true self. your hand itched to touch, to reach out but instead, it tightens on your cardigan and you force yourself to look away.
-
when you got back home from the cabin, namjoon had dropped you at your room, carried your bags in, and left immediately after as if being in your presence was unbearable for him, which made you cry as soon as the door shut behind him.
now, you were in bed, it was tuesday and you had no one in your life again.
you watched your phone like a hawk, jumping at every ting! it made but it was never namjoon and you always found yourself wishing it was.
your arm dangled off the sofa as you watched kung fu panda play on the tv.
"your story might not have a happy beginning, but that does not make you who you are." soothsayer spoke on the screen and you watched with your lips between your teeth, ignoring the way your heart skipped over when the scene cut to the wise turtle, oogway.
you didn’t want to think of namjoon, you didn’t want to think of his laugh when you called him a wise turtle nor did you want to think of how you could be watching this with him right now.
but he was out of your life now.
and you didn’t know how to live it anymore.
you suddenly were too aware of how lonely you were and too aware of how no one could soothe the loneliness nor cure it.
you saw the book he had given you that was on your coffee table still, you saw his wine glass that was tucked away in a corner of your kitchen, you saw his sweater that you never bothered giving back and you felt yourself crumble from within.
when someone leaves your life, the life you had before them seems alien, not yours.
and your life, right now, was just not yours.
-
“but he wasn’t even that good-looking, so it wasn’t too sad,” your friends laughed around the table as one of them spoke, you raised your glass to your lips and sipped to kill the words inside you.
but my man was beautiful, my man was everything, so it is sad for me.
when your friends called you to meet up, it seemed like a beacon of light shoved into your life and you immediately accepted, you had to go back to your life before namjoon.
“i don’t think i’ve ever liked anyone enough to be sad after we break up,” one of them sighed and the rest followed.
but i’m so sad.
“but how do we know if we like someone that much?”  you asked silently, not really meaning to and all their heads snapped to you.
“i’ve only loved that much once, and it was…strange, none of me felt like me anymore, i guess you without them stops making sense,” your friend said, her eyes shimmered with memories of her past love. the ball in your throat grew tighter and it wound itself around your entire being.
you without namjoon, didn’t make sense.
and you were close to letting him out of your life forever.
you pushed against the table, hands shaking but you were so determined, it was suddenly too clear that you needed him.
“guys, i have to go.” they all smiled and giggled as they watched you run out of the restaurant.
-
you ran into the pouring rain, water splashed on your sneakers and your jeans but you kept pushing forward.
if you lose namjoon now, you will never forgive yourself, if you lose him after finally realizing that you need him in your life, you will never recover from the pain.
your hands hurriedly stuffed into your bag, pulling out your phone and checking his instragram, you were blessed with a view of his home and book in his stories so you wasted no time in dialing his number, pressing it to your ear and praying to every raindrop falling on you that he would pick up.
he picked up.
you stopped in your tracks.
there was only his breathing on the other side, some static noises too, and still just the simple act of him picking up the call had you sighing out in relief.
“namjoon, please come out,” you whispered, eyes lining with tears that would join the rain on your face and he sighed, you held your breath until he spoke.
then, after a pregnant silence, he sighed again, “okay.”
you cut the call and started running again, renewed energy slammed on the ground as you ran for your life, for your love.
as you finally reached his apartment, your heart raced with anticipation. the running left you breathless, the rain was merciless but the thought of seeing him filled you with an energy that surpassed any physical exhaustion.
and you bent over, catching your breath, you couldn't help but feel a flutter of nerves in your stomach. your mind raced with thoughts of what to say, how to express the feelings swirling within you. with each cough, you felt the intensity of your emotions grow, this moment, this night, this rain could change everything for you.
but you knew that whatever you said, whatever you decided to reveal, it would come from ages of knowing but denying your heart.
when someone you love leaves your life, the life you had before them stops making sense, that’s when the hollowness comes in, that’s when you realize you need them.
and you were done, you were done hiding and you were pretending that you didn’t want him under your very skin.
then, the rain stops.
to correct it, the rain stops falling on your head.
you see his shoes in front of you and muffle the cry that erupts in your throat.
you look up impatiently, so quickly that namjoon jerks back and you curse yourself with every word possible, how did you ever deny yourself of him?
“why are you here?” namjoon tries to stay stoic, and cool, even as his hands scream at him to pull you to him, to let his skin become yours and instead, his hands tighten on the umbrella he’s holding over you.
“i was wrong that day,” you gasped out, and his heart lurched even as he tried not to hope for too much, “which day?”
“when i tried to act like we weren’t anything, i was wrong, namjoon, so terribly wrong,” you shook your head at yourself, pushing your hair away from your face, your chin trembled as you tried to talk to the one person who made your heart run like a racehorse.
“and i was so scared, but i should have never lied to you or myself just because i was scared,” he listened, patient as ever, but you saw his eyes go red and the way his nose twitched with a sniff.
“but why were you scared? it’s just me,” he laughed, as if he wasn’t the most extraordinary person ever, as if everything he spoke didn’t carry a bit of magic, as if he wasn’t magic himself.
“i was scared because,” you swallowed, can you say it out loud?
something about the rain made everything look so beautiful, so pure, so vulnerable but it made your heart feel so heavy, feel so filled with dread that it might burst, because if he didn’t believe you, if he laughed and walked away, you wouldn’t know how to live with yourself.
his hand snaked up your arm and something tender floated in the air around you, something that made you feel so close to namjoon, something that felt so right. but you weren't speaking a word, nor were you touching him, but you were in front of him and he was in front of you, and just like this, you felt as if someone had laid you bare.
“when i hold me, it's imperfect, i don't touch all of me and that's fine, it's just me, but if i don't hold you perfectly, the way you deserve, i might just die from guilt,” you breathed out, chin trembling again and namjoon held your jaw, and your eyes fell close.
“if i hurt you, i can never come back from it because you’re a good person, you don’t hesitate to say things like, ‘i miss you’ or ‘i saw this and i thought of you’, but those things scare me, i’ve never said them before.”
“but?” he mused, pushing your hair behind your ear and you curled into his palm, leaning your entire face on it.
you laughed, it wasn’t happy, it wasn’t sad, it was just a sound, “but i don’t know to live without you, i need you, i miss you even when you’re away for a second, i think of you in every movie i watch and i see you in some or the other character in every book i read, i see you everywhere in my life and i need you in it.”
“my life isn’t mine without you, i love you.” you pleaded.
and everything was silent for a second, he looked at you, you looked at him, you felt his skin become yours again, you felt the relief flooding in you but you also felt desperate to hear his voice.
“at some point, you’re going to need someone to hold you, the right way i mean” namjoon spoke finally, and you nodded, grabbing onto his shirt, “it needs to be you.”
namjoon’s never been able to deny you of anything at all so he says, “it will be me. now, come here,” he pulled on your arm until you fell on his chest and the rest of the world fell into place for you, you gripped onto him as if someone was going to take him away and namjoon laughed, kissing your forehead, which sent a numbing tingle all over your body.
“i love you too.” it felt right, you didn’t want to run away and take back everything you said, you wanted to hear him say it again and again, you wanted to say it again and again.
being close to someone is a fickle thing.
a person who knows everything about you, may not feel close.
but a person who tries to know you, may feel close.
and namjoon was so close that it didn’t make sense, like many stories you’ve read in your life, but it didn’t have to.
because from now on, he was you, and you were him.
and from now on, you and him, are the magical story that you would tell to everyone else.

3rd Person's POV
Heaven dressed in her black wide-legged pants, a sleek red strapless top, and a matching black suit coat.
Her hair was meticulously styled in a tight bun, her make-up adding a touch of mystery and allure to her determined expression.
Today marked a pivotal moment in her life, the day she had been preparing for - the day she would stand up for the hybrids, the marginalized and oppressed group that had long been ignored and mistreated in the shadows of society.
This was her chance to make a difference, to show that someone was willing to fight for their rights and freedom.
However, as she made her way to carry out her plan, a shadow loomed over her resolve. Black Eagle, the formidable leader of the opposition, had caught wind of her intentions and had dispatched his men to thwart her efforts.
But what he didn't realize was that Heaven was not an easy target. Behind her elegant facade and delicate appearance lay a sharp mind, unwavering determination, and a reservoir of strength that made her a formidable opponent.
Black Eagle had underestimated her, forgotten the true nature of the person he was facing.
Heaven was no ordinary human being, she was a force to be reckoned with, a blend of beauty and power, grace and resilience.
Her outward appearance belied the complexities of her character, the depths of her convictions, and the lengths she was willing to go to achieve her goals.
As she squared her shoulders and took a deep breath, Heaven knew that the path ahead would be fraught with challenges and dangers. But she was ready, prepared to face whatever obstacles came her way in her quest to save the hybrids and make a stand against injustice.
Black Eagle's mistake was assuming she was just a pretty face, unaware of the fierce spirit that burned within her, ready to ignite a revolution and change the course of history for those who had been marginalized for too long.
Heaven's POV
As I stood in my suite, facing the group of boys who I had vowed to protect, a feeling of determination surged through me. I knew that bringing justice to them and every other hybrid in the building would not be easy, but it was a cause I was willing to fight for.
"Okay, guys, I hope you're ready," I began, my voice firm but with a hint of warmth.
"This will not be pretty, it might be traumatizing, but I want you to know that I won't let anyone touch you."
I looked at each of them, their expressions a mix of fear and gratitude.
"Once we leave this place," I continued, "remember that you do not belong to anyone. You shouldn't bow your head or avert your eyes when you make eye contact, understood?"
The boys, dressed elegantly thanks to my efforts, nodded in unison. I smiled at them, trying to convey reassurance in the midst of uncertainty.
Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Min-Soo entered the room. He bowed his head in respect, but his demeanor quickly changed when he caught sight of the seven men before him.
His reaction was unsettling, the unmistakable look of lust in his eyes made my blood boil. I watched as his cheeks reddened, and he awkwardly tried to hide his reaction.
The realization that Min-Soo was also complicit in the exploitation of hybrids added fuel to my already brewing rage.
"If you are done checking out my hybrids," I said coldly, breaking the uncomfortable silence, "I would appreciate it if you led the way."
The embarrassment on Min-Soo's face was evident as he fumbled with his words and gestured for us to follow him.
As we made our way to the event, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.
Despite the obstacles ahead, I was determined to stand up for what was right and protect those who couldn't protect themselves.
The road to justice might be long and arduous, but I knew that with each step we took, we were one step closer to making a difference in the lives of hybrids everywhere.
As we exited the suite and ventured down a different hallway this time, Min-Soo took the lead, guiding us further below the building into what seemed like an underground showroom.
The atmosphere was eerie, and my instincts told me to be on high alert, so I discreetly stationed all my guards and Hit-men strategically around us, ready for any unforeseen circumstances.
Upon entering the large room, I couldn't help but gasp in horror at the spectacle before us.
The room reeked of sweat and primal desires as humans engaged in vile forms of intimate activities with hybrids.
The scene was overwhelming, with individuals indulging in not only intimate acts but also harsh BDSM practices like Knife Play, Fire Play, Electrostimulation Play, Breast Torture, Blood Play, and more.
The sight was deeply disturbing, especially seeing the hybrids submit with a mix of fear and resignation in their eyes. They bore the scars of trauma and abuse, and it fueled a fiery rage within me.
I made a mental note of each perpetrator's face, vowing that they would face justice for their heinous acts against these innocent beings.
Despite the seething anger boiling inside me, I knew that acting solely on emotion would not serve justice.
Suppressing my emotions, I maintained a composed facade as I led the group towards a secluded table, with the seven men following closely behind.
In that moment, a sense of grim determination settled over me, knowing that justice would prevail, even in the face of such darkness.
As we strolled through the dimly lit hall, I couldn't help but notice the astonishment in the eyes of the people around us.
There was a certain tension in the air, and I could sense it wasn't because of me. It was the hybrids walking alongside me that seemed to be causing a stir.
I had to fight the urge to lash out at the staring onlookers and instead focused on keeping my composure, avoiding any signs of superiority towards my boys.
Namjoon, Jungkook, and Hoseok, despite being in a familiar and hostile environment, barely showed any signs of fear but what caught me off guard, however, were Taehyung, Jimin, Jin, and Yoongi.
They appeared relaxed and unaffected, almost nonchalant, yet there was something unsettling about the dark and dangerous energy they exuded.
I could read the emotions playing across their faces like an open book. While the other three showed some signs of apprehension, it paled in comparison to the simmering anger and resolve I saw in the gazes of the rest.
Just then, a man who appeared to be in his thirties approached our group, flashing a crooked smile. I could sense his approach from the way his steps echoed on the floor, and I prepared myself for the forthcoming encounter.
“Heaven-” he began, but I cut him off, asserting my position with a firm tone, “It's Ms. Valentino, to you,” I interjected, already feeling my annoyance building towards the man.
“Urhm- yes, Ms. Valentino, it's an honor to finally meet you. My name is Gil-O Park. I own Park Enterprises,” he proudly introduced himself, as if assuming I held a vested interest in his business endeavors.
I regarded him cooly, silently urging him to get to the point of his approach.
“I think you've heard of it; we own a chain of five-star hotels across the country and internationally-” he continued, and I decided to interject once again, uninterested in his self-promotion.
“Okay, and so… what's that got to do with me? Just cut to the chase and tell me what it is that you want,” I stated bluntly, my impatience shining through.
He seemed momentarily taken aback by my directness, but quickly composed himself,
“Uh, haha, you're pretty straightforward, huh,” he muttered under his breath, though I caught his words clearly.
“I was wondering if you'd like to dance with me,” he finally stated, a glint of confidence in his eyes as he addressed me. Internally, I couldn't help but scoff at his presumptuousness, evident in both his tone and stance.
Who does he think he is? My mind raced with indignation at the man's audacity.
Before I could say anything, I felt a hand on my thigh, and my ire escalated as I heard a deep, low growl emanating from the Hybrid seated beside me.
Jimin's protective stance sent a shiver down my spine.
“This woman here is mine, so I suggest you walk away from here before I do something terrible,” Jimin's growl reverberated with authority, catching me off guard yet not entirely surprised by his fierce reaction.
Gil-o's disdainful gaze met Jimin's, and with a scoff, he unleashed a string of degrading words, belittling the Hybrid before him.
“Ha, pesky Hybrid, how dare you speak to a master with such insolence. I could end you with just the snap of my finger,” Gil-o's arrogance oozed with condescension, provoking a sense of unease in the air.
"You're one of those perverse ones, I think I need to teach you a lesson, you filthy piece of-" Gil-o's threatening words were cut short as I swiftly intercepted, seizing his wrist in a forceful grip, twisting it in an uncomfortable angle that elicited a piercing cry of pain from the man.
“Continue talking, I DARE YOU,” venom laced my voice as I maintained the pressure on his wrist, his pained expression urging me to retaliate further.
“C'mon, say something. Cat got your tongue or what?! Huh?!” My voice rose, drawing the attention of onlookers, as I held Gil-o in a vice-like grip, asserting my authority.
“This is for thinking you could say whatever the hell you felt like saying to my Hybrid,” my tone was laced with unwavering resolve as I broke his wrist, compelling a cry of agony from the man writhing in pain on the ground.
“This is for thinking odious thoughts about me and my hybrids,” my voice remained firm as I snapped a bone in his arm, his wails filling the air with anguish.
“And finally, this is for thinking you could put your filthy hand on my Hybrid, especially without his consent,” a surge of protective fury coursed through me as I crushed his fingers one by one, sending waves of excruciating pain through his body, rendering him helpless and humiliated on the ground.
It was a tense moment in the room as my men escorted the wailing man out.
The atmosphere was thick with fear and everyone's eyes avoided meeting mine. I took a seat calmly, not fazed by the commotion I had just caused.
As I settled back into my chair, I turned my attention to Jimin, who appeared visibly shaken by the events that had unfolded.
With a soft tone and a hint of concern, I addressed him, trying to comfort him amidst the chaos surrounding us.
"Hey, sweetie, are you okay?" I inquired gently, hoping to alleviate some of the distress he was feeling.
Jimin's wide-eyed stare and gaping mouth indicated his shock, leaving him at a loss for words in the face of the unexpected situation.
Despite the tension in the room, I attempted to maintain a sense of composure and control, showing a softer side in my interaction with Jimin.
Jimin's POV
In that intense moment, emotions surged through me like a ferocious storm. My heart pounded with a mixture of adrenaline, gratitude, and disbelief at what had just transpired.
As I braced myself to confront the man who had instigated the unsettling situation, an unexpected twist unfolded before my eyes. The woman by my side, in an act of unparalleled courage and solidarity, shielded me from harm.
The sheer audacity of her actions left me speechless. It was a rare experience to have someone go to such lengths to defend me, reminiscent of the unwavering support I had only known from my own brothers.
Every fiber of my being was touched by the depth of her loyalty, and it was a struggle to maintain composure amid the overwhelming wave of emotions that washed over me.
Her gaze bore into mine, overflowing with genuine concern and kindness. Despite the chaos that had just unfolded, her words resonated with warmth and reassurance, wrapping around me like a comforting embrace.
It was as if she had effortlessly transitioned from a delicate, nurturing presence to a fierce, unstoppable force, leaving me in awe of her unwavering strength.
In that poignant moment of connection, I found solace in her unwavering support. With a silent nod of acknowledgment, a silent understanding passed between us.
Her smile held a promise of unwavering loyalty, a silent pledge to always stand by my side and protect not just me, but all of us who stood united in the face of adversity.
Her touch on my thigh sent a jolt of comfort through me, a physical reassurance that mirrored the depth of her unwavering commitment.
The gentle pressure of her hand, the rhythmic motion of her soothing gesture, conveyed a silent message of solidarity and support.
In that fleeting yet profound moment, I felt a sense of security knowing that I was not alone, that her unwavering presence would be a beacon of light in even the darkest of times.
As I absorbed the depth of her actions and the sincerity of her words, a newfound sense of gratitude and respect blossomed within me.
In a world where strength and compassion are often seen as conflicting, she embodied a rare balance of both, serving as a guiding light in the tumultuous sea of emotions that enveloped us.
In her simple yet profound gesture, I found a glimmer of hope and a renewed faith in the power of human connection.
And as we faced the unknown together, I knew that her unwavering presence would be a constant source of strength and solace, a reminder that in the face of adversity, we are never truly alone.
Yoongi's POV
Observing her since the moment she purchased us for that exorbitant sum has been an intriguing experience, to say the least.
Initially, my perception of her was tinged with a hint of skepticism, as I entertained the notion that she might be one of those individuals harboring unconventional and perhaps questionable desires, particularly in seeking out seven rare predator hybrids.
There was a certain air of ostentation surrounding her, leading me to speculate that she might be someone enamored with displaying affluence that wasn't entirely earned, a characteristic often observed in those who revel in the ostentatious flaunting of wealth without a second thought.
Despite these initial reservations, I must admit there was an undeniable allure about her upon our first encounter. A mysterious pull that hinted at a deeper complexity beneath the surface, one that I hesitated to acknowledge openly.
As time passed, my perceptions began to shift. Witnessing her assertive and uncompromising demeanor as she asserted her dominance over someone of her own kind in defense of a species considered inferior by societal standards, I couldn't help but be drawn to the darker, more enigmatic facets of her character.
In stark contrast to the superficiality often associated with affluent social circles, she exuded a sense of depth and intrigue that set her apart from the typical affluent elite or individuals who merely squandered inherited wealth.
There was an inherent sense of danger and unpredictability that accompanied her every action, a quality that both thrilled and unsettled those in her orbit.
Unlike the vapid materialism of her counterparts or the insatiable cravings for fulfillment seen in disenchanted spouses or privileged youths, she embodied a multifaceted persona that defied easy categorization.
Beneath her formidable exterior lay a veil of mystery, hinting at secrets and unknown truths waiting to be unveiled. It was this enigmatic quality that set her apart, shrouding her in an aura of intrigue and unease that captivated the attention of all who crossed her path.
Reflecting on the way Heaven's presence has affected me and the others, I find myself in a state of both intrigue and caution. The magnetic pull towards her is undeniable, a force that tugs at my instincts as a hybrid.
While I strive to maintain a sense of wariness, I concede that she has proven herself to be a figure of safety in our midst.
The recent discussions among our group have shed light on the complexities of our possessiveness towards our assigned humans. It is a natural inclination for hybrids like us to exhibit possessive tendencies, a primal instinct rooted in our genetic makeup.
However, the intensity of Jimin's protective aura towards Heaven has brought forth a heightened sense of vigilance and curiosity among us.
The peculiar aspect of Jimin's behavior lies in the fact that his possessiveness extends beyond the usual boundaries observed among hybrids.
Typically, such displays serve as a signal to other hybrids that a human has been claimed, but in this case, it seems to transcend such norms, piquing our interest and triggering a sense of impending change within our group dynamics.
As I observe the dynamics unfolding within our circle, it becomes apparent that the manifestations of possessiveness vary among us.
While Jimin and Taehyung exhibit more overt signs of attachment to Heaven due to their frequent interactions with her, the rest of us navigate this uncharted territory with a degree of restraint and contemplation.
The enigmatic allure of Heaven Valentino remains a source of fascination for me, a puzzle waiting to be unraveled. Her presence evokes a sense of curiosity and intrigue within me, prompting a desire to delve deeper into the mysteries that surround her.
In the midst of uncertainty and evolving dynamics, I find solace in the prospect of unraveling the enigma that is Heaven.
Despite the uncertainties that lie ahead, I am drawn to the challenge of understanding the depths of her essence and the profound impact she has on all of us.
3rd Person POV
The lights in the room suddenly went off and the sound of a gun being fired was heard. The entire room was filled with the smell of gunpowder, creating an eerie atmosphere.
The sound of people screaming and heavy footsteps echoed through the room, heightening the tension in the air.
“Let the show begin,” Heaven said with a malicious glint in her eyes, sending shivers down the spines of those around her.
The men all swiftly got into position as Black Eagles' men lunged at them, a chaotic battle unfolding before their eyes.
Heaven calmly removed her coat and assumed a fighting stance, her movements fluid and precise.
As one of the men threw a punch in her direction, Heaven effortlessly dodged it and counterattacked, throwing him over her shoulder and onto a nearby table with a loud crash.
Seemingly unfazed, she then faced two other men wielding knives, a devious smirk playing on her lips.
With impeccable agility, Heaven swiftly maneuvered out of the way, performing a backflip that caused the two men to collide with each other, their own weapons piercing through their bodies with a sickening squelch.
Rushing to the side of the room, Heaven activated her earpiece with a sense of urgency.
“Jay now!” she ordered, her voice commanding and authoritative.
More men flooded into the room, engaging in fierce combat with the initial group as the tension escalated. Heaven wasted no time and sprinted towards her hybrids, who were holding their own in the chaotic confrontation.
“Joon, cover me!” she directed, pulling out her gun to provide support. Namjoon quickly sprang into action, coming to her defense and skillfully dispatching the assailants in his path with calculated precision.
A sudden, piercing growl of pain echoed through the room, causing a momentary freeze among the hybrids and Heaven. Their heads turned in unison towards the source of the sound, dread settling in their hearts.
Jungkook had just been shot, his body sprawled on the ground in a pool of blood.
