Loki's expressions/behaviour still seem exaggerated to me

the problem with a lot of mainstream entertainment right now is that adaptations of comic book superhero universes, a medium and genre that lends itself to an infinite number of iterations and expanded storytelling, or something like star wars, that by definition has a GALAXY of stories to tell, got REALLY popular in mainstream film and TV, and instead of companies thinking "ok WHY do these types of stories lend themselves to constantly expanding franchises" they thought "let's apply that to every other story possible even if it doesn't make sense because it must be FRANCHISES that work right?" and now we are here. (there are a lot of other reasons for this too, but this is a big one)

Like we get a bunch of Loki variants in Loki Series S1

What if

Eventually there a bunch of Sigyn variants in Loki S2 ( cuz why the fuck not )

And then when some Sigyn variants bond over their Lokis, 616! Sigyn finally breaks down as to how she FINALLY leaves 616! Loki cuz she had enough of his increasing berating and such

And then MCU! Sigyn is all like, ' Would you like us to beat your ex husband for you? '

616! Sigyn : Gladly

Cue a bunch of Sigyn variants mercilessly beating 616! Loki with their powers and such while 616! Sigyn just watches contently and eating a bowl of fruit

it's amazing how every time i come across a *insert recent sw content* on my dash it's always about old characters' cameos, references to the original movies/tcw etc. - basically an echo. not an ounce of originality. every new media is built on the shoulders of some older and more popular media. everything in this galaxy of billions is about the same 8 people and has been for decades. nobody knows how to move on and they seeks out the crumbles of their lost childhood/rose-tinted glasses/happier and simpler times instead of approaching to new characters and stories and let themselves be actually challenged. this is the mcufication of sw. thanks i hate it

((When/if the MCU comes to an end (as in no more movies or shows etc), will you stop being here? I know the MCU probably has quite a ways to go until it ends, but I can't help but wonder after seeing a youtube video title saying "MCU has an expiration date". I wasn't in the mood for an essay video so I didn't actually watch it. But the title alone was enough to get me curious on what you might do.

I'm also curious about what you might do if they're stupid enough to kill off Scott (they better not). What'll you do if that happens?))

((Yes, I’ve seen similar videos and articles regarding the MCU as we know it eventually ending and hearing phrases like “soft reboot”. I don’t really want to think about such things because I’m not always good with changes regarding things I love. Even good, necessary changes.

And I especially don’t want to consider the horrendous crime of killing off Scott Lang. *shivers* I just can’t.

But here’s the deal, Anon. I am very good at ignoring canon when I want to, and if any of these things come to pass, I will more than likely ignore it all and carry on as is.

Scott and I have no interest in leaving, and as long as people want us here, as long as people still interact with us and like having us around, then we’ll stay.

I promise, Anon, we’re not going anywhere any time soon, and we will bow out on our own terms, not on the MCU’s.))

It's unfortunate The Marvels is the movie taken down the most due to the reduced quality of past MCU content (especially since it's one of the better movies they've released in a while) but it was bound to happen eventually.

I personally don't think Disney will just "give up" on the MCU. Based on what I've read Feige and Iger are aware of the shit the MCU has done and is making adjustments.

But for me the big thing really is that the MCU Infinity Saga was a 10yeear lightning in a bottle moment. And now they're trying to recreate their own success and started out on the worst foot by pushing TV shows on Disney+ and making subpar movies (most weren't actually subpar to the point of being that bad, but they weren't as good as the best MCU movies so it means they're awful. Also too many new characters, and diverse characters and we know how the MCU fandom feels about non white ppl)

IMO what Disney/Marvel studios need to do isn't recreate their past success or reboot the MCU or whatever. It's literally to rethink superhero storytelling for the medium of movies. A cinematic universe was fresh during the Infinity Saga. It isn't fresh anymore. Everyone's doing it. Some worse, some better, some still trying to figure it out. It's played out.

There's a song by Jay-Z called Off That which I believes should be applied in the Marvel Studios producers room. The chorus goes:

"Whatever you about to discover we off that You about to tell her you love her we off that Always wanna fight in the club and we off that But you can't bring the future back, back

Y'all are steady chasin' the fame and we off that Oversized clothes and chains we off that Niggas still making it rain and we off that 'Cause you can't bring the future back, back

Tell them haters get off me, the Cris' we off that Timbs we off that, rims we off that (Yeah we off that, is you still on that?) (And we still makin' money 'cause we still on that)"

So they need to be like "Y'all still working on a cinematic universe we off that"

I don't think it was necessary to make Thor a main character in a Loki show, the same way it WOULD be possible to throw together a Thor movie without having Loki be a main focus.

The issue comes in the quality of the narrative itself, and writing that if evidently without intention to care for (whichever) main character's importance will not work out. Neither the Loki series nor Thor 4 cared about the arc, motivations, history, or continuity of the titular characters beyond trying to make the media marketable.

Overall messaging can add a layer to the impact a story will have. Musical score can be a bonus way to control tone or tie a story together. Supporting cast can be vital to tell a good story. Prioritising their presence over anyone's (especially Loki's) characterisation is what the Loki series suffered from, not that other, original-adjacent characters were there.

#i'd say it was tell not show but frankly the plotline was so poorly done i don't think showing would have helped #it would have solidified the side characters better though #if they had put effort into characterising Loki right then poorly done side characters could've been a non-issue #messing up the main characters which are supposed to be part of a continuity is the number 1 issue #not managing the screen-time well was the number 2 issue #too much time wasted setting up characters that were going to monologue about their importance anyway??#too much time spent trying to establish the TVA as something important and controlling but somehow good #so much could have been cut out of the show and still gotten all that across #the relationships people built did so in like 2 days in-universe iirc so i wouldn't call them solid #season 1 was a useless introductory setup for the multiverse that didn't have any impact because there were like 4 other setups #scrap the characterisation and call it a reboot and it still threw Loki out as a weak and completely conventional protagonist #that's not engaging when every other character is also boring overall #even if their concepts weren't boring the way it was done was #The Loki Show #i can't be bothered thinking about the show because there's just so much #where would one start #i don't care enough about it to hate the show but i did find the fight choreography lacking too #the camera angles and general videography wasn't good #i have the same complaints about the choreography with every other disney+ show they put out #not even bothered with the MCU frankly #i'm happy to pretend the movies stopped after phase 2
