~ it just slipped from your lips in the heat of the moment. you had been really hazy and a bit delirious and matt had been deep inside you when it just popped out. and yes, it did catch him by surprise for about half a second since he wasn't expecting it and it wasn't something you'd ever called him before. but in the same half a second he was caught off guard, matt decided he loved it. he doesn't say anything about it in the moment, but it was the way you said it, with your shaky voice barely coherent and your pretty eyes crossed, overwhelmed with pleasure. matt takes it as a sign that he's doing a really good job, and best believe he makes it his mission to get one of those out of you again every time you two get intimate. on the other hand, expect pretty relentless teasing about it. matt both finds it amusing and a hell of a turn on how easily he can get you off, how he can make you just lose yourself like that.

~ mello is someone who enjoys being in control during sex. so when you moan that in this pathetic, trembling voice, pleading with tears pricking the corners of your eyes for him to keep going, it's really such a rush for him. the brief moment of surprise at the unexpected title is quickly swept away by the surge of pride, almost arrogant in its nature. you've fully surrendered yourself to him; your pleasure is in his hands; you've acknowledged his power over your body. he'll probably get rougher in the moment, and later on in future intimate encounters he'll outright make you say it, denying you any release until you do, over and over and over.

near

~ although near does usually prefer it when you both are equals during sex, he can't help the swell of satisfaction in his heart when you call him that. after all, he has an ego like every other man on this list, and near gets something out of being at least somewhat in control, even in your sexual encounters where he does normally prefer not for anyone to be dominant. it's not like he needs to hear you say it every time, but near certainly doesn't mind when you do. besides, it means you like what he's doing and he's making you feel good, which is what he wants most.

ryuzaki

~ he probably spends the most time being surprised out of anybody else on this list. he doesn't have anything against it- besides, it would probably kill the mood if ryuzaki paused mid-sex to ask about it and what brought it on- but he just is somebody who likes having answers. so he may or may not literally interview you about it later- did he do something different? is that something that might happen again? what prompted you to call him that? he must know, even if you can hardly even sit up or form a full sentence yet.

Mello isn’t a good person. It’s not new knowledge to him, in fact one of his first memories is shoving some toddler to the ground over some toys. He’s not stupid enough to even try branding himself as a good person, that notion fell through long before he first heard someone’s last gasps of air, the sickening gurgle in the back of their throats and a silent mouthed cry for their mother.

He knew he wasn’t a good person as he dry heaved onto the ground, nothing even able to come up, when had he last eaten again? He wasn’t a good person when he stuffed that headless corpse into a trash bag, shoving the heaving bag into the boot of Rod Ross’s luxury car. The empty McDonald’s wrappers that were scattered through the car crunched under his feet as he climbed into the car stone faced.

Most of all he definitely wasn’t a good person when he stood outside the chipped blue door of Matt’s apartment. He was grateful for once that Matt lived in a shitty part of town, no one really cared to look enough at the blood on his knuckles, the broken nose, the various bruises and scratches and spatters of blood. He needed to bring two changes of clothes in the future.

It was difficult to knock, it always had been. This was different however, far further than it had ever been before. Matt would take one look at him and know what he had done. How could he not? The man was integrated into every electronic he used, how else can you blackmail people if you’re not constantly recording every conversation you have. Yet Mello couldn’t decide what was worse, Matt looking at him with disgust or with love. The option of both made his stomach turn, the disgust he could deal with. It made sense. But to react with kindness and care? Mello didn’t think he could take it.

He took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Mello grimaced slightly as it cracked open, the smoky haze of light shining on his blood splattered face.

“Oh hey busy day?” Matt said, putting his phone into his pocket. “I put the kettle on if you wanna shower, but I’m nearly through something big.” He rubbed his hands excitedly, walking back to his computer. “I’m gunna get back to it, I wanna be in Aruba in two weeks! I love stealing~”

Mello snickered, both of them would die of sun poisoning on the first day. His shoulders sagged as he unclenched his jaw. “Shower sounds great.”

He wasn’t a good person, but neither was Matt. Thank god for that.

I accidentally deleted someone’s anon ask. The question posed was what sort of partner Mello would be and I wrote out a thing and I didn’t like what I wrote so I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to delete the post not knowing that also deletes the ask itself. My deleting the ask does not make me incapable of filling the ask but I felt bad about it so this is my apology.

Mello has a fun thing going on. He is both incredibly insecure but very willing to show exactly who he is to his partner. A lot of your relationship in the early stages, then, is going to be him trying to figure out who and what exactly you are while trying to show you— in his own way— who he is. The idea of you accepting him as an individual is incredibly important to him, so he’s going to ask a lot of questions to reaffirm what his relationship with you is, to confirm that you are both on the same page. For him, a relationship takes as much priority as a job, so he will be very committed to you and will— unlike some of the other characters I’ve written for— set aside time specifically to spend with you, even if that means that his time with you and his time at work overlap. After all, the fact that you’re with him at all is lucky; if you want him, then he wants to give himself to you lest you feel deprived and have to look elsewhere for your fix.

In regards to how he acts once you two are in a rhythm with one another— that is, once the two of you have gotten somewhat comfortable in your relationship— he makes a pointed effort to make sure that you know that he really does care for you, be that by verbally singing your praises (or, more accurately, mumbling them into your skin) or by giving you gifts or taking you out to places you show interest in.

The downside to all the passion he has and how much he values your relationship is that he is constantly anxious about you leaving regardless if you’ve been together for days or years. It’s another reason why he shows you off; people that know him would know better than to go for his significant other for as willing as he is to do what has to be done. If he feels threatened in that regard, he’s quick to go on the offensive. If he feels like you’re not emotionally invested as he is, he’s going to confront you about it. Open communication is a must for him; he’s not telling you things about him and his life for you to write him a biography, so if you aren’t willing to be open the relationship is going to die a slow and agonizing death.

Mello is a high maitence partner, but what he lacks in ease he makes up for in devotion and commitment. You will never have to worry about him falling out of love with you or harboring quiet resentment. Not a very universally appealing pick, but an understandable one.

-seeing as this made me think of matt and mello’s relationship, it’s safe to say that mello would work well with an s/o like this

-he’d be eager to have you help with his work. he can definitely put your intelligence to use a lot, and you’d ofc be willing to help him out. although mello is usually reluctant to accept the help of others and wants to make it all alone, he learns to trust you. you’d definitely make him feel better about accepting help

-he doesn’t just love you because you’re useful though, he’d probably find you very cute. i also think mello would tease you a lot about this kind of thing but in an endearing way (you’d tease him back ofc)

Notes: plz I love writing death note hcs

Warnings: near-death situations, slight yandere themes

Characters involved: Light Yagami, L Lawliet, Near, Mello, Matt

Gender-neutral reader, you/yours

Light Yagami

Regardless of what happened to you, Light will presume this is because of people who are trying to hurt him through you.

Being Kira's s/o is obviously a dangerous position, and he heavily chastises himself for not thinking of his status impacting you before.

This is obviously not completely true, as what happened was a mere accident and had nothing to do with you being his partner.

If another person was involved in the accident then they will definitely be killed using the death note, this is non-negotiable and Light will probably hide their death from you.

He starts keeping a close eye on everything you do and will not let you go places without him for a while. Even after that Light often sends Ryuk to watch over you when he's executing his plans to ensure you don't get caught in it.

Overall, he takes this incident as a challenge to try and prove that he can be Kira and have a partner without it ending in a tragical romance.

L Lawliet

L definitely isn't as crazed Light but he is very cautious because of the incident.

He considers himself foolish for not thinking about such a thing happening before and does get very panicked at the thought of possibly losing you.

Unlike Light who's accustomed to caring for others, his family, and having important people in his life, L has never really had to worry about anyone except himself and Watari, which is why this incident sort of shocks him into realising you are now part of that list too.

He won't be overbearing physically, but he will insist upon having surveillance for some time or at least sending Watari with you.

If you protest then he pretends to understand and agree not to do it, but he still will survey you anyways.

L will get used to the idea of having to look out for you pretty easily, as he also considers the fact that in the future if your relationship ever goes public people might try to use you to get to him.

Overall, he probably seems like the calmest out of them all but he's really spiralling mentally and feels a need to constantly have you around after that.

Mello

The angry kind.

He probably yells at you after the incident and calls you an idiot, but it's really just his way of showing you he cares (that doesn't excuse the fact that he's being toxic).

He'll get overbearing but unlike the others, he doesn't give you a chance. Mello can and will force you into accepting his sudden surveillance and has the connections to ensure you are always watched by someone he trusts if he isn't available.

The two of you probably fight about it quite a bit and Mello starts yelling and has to force himself to understand the fact that just because he cares about you doesn't make this okay.

He's never really had to care about someone so much before, sure he has Matt but he's never cared to this extent, which is why Mello just gets very panicked and doesn't know what to do with himself.

With Mello, conversation is key in this situation.

If you fight fire with fire it might just result in things getting worse and him going Yandere.

Near

Blames himself.

To Near, it's all but insulting you were even put in such a situation. He thinks that it's his fault for not seeing this possibility before.

If he was there to witness the situation his guilt and decision to blame himself only gets worse to the point where he thinks he needs to take extra measures to make up for his previous shortcomings.

He wouldn't force surveillance on you or anything but he might get a little overbearing because he doesn't want you to go places without him or be out of his sight.

Unlike the others Near is open to an argument in fact he wants you to argue back, wants you to knock him out of his self-blaming spiral.

He isn't very familiar with human emotion and doesn't really know how to comprehend what he feels for you and how the thought of you feeling pain affects him so badly.

Just like Mello he just needs to understand this new feeling and how to cope with it healthily.

Matt

Matt is the calmest of them all, and unlike L he's not faking it.

Sure, he's scared shitless. If anything this incident just shows him how careful he needs to be about mixing you and his work since the possibility of you getting hurt is very real.

He doesn't want to risk losing you and isn't very happy about the fact that you could have been taken from him.

Normally, Matt isn't very physically affectionate but now he's holding you in his arms for hours on end convincing himself that nothing happened, that you're fine.

It would be cute if he didn't talk about keeping you with him and only him while you were in his arms.

Very yandere thoughts but unlike the others he doesn't do anything about it.

Well, he doesn't kidnap you. But he does set up a camera outside your house and a tracker in your car. Mello told him to do this before anyways (just in case you were a mole) so that's just more of a reason for Matt to keep an eye on you.

He doesn't tell you any of this, and you will probably never find out since Matt's good at what he does and know how to ensure his targets don't know they're being watched.

↘ Definitely, your first meeting would be in this well-known to all of us cafe that serves sweet cakes, hot coffee and iced tea.

↘ I think you would be a new employee there who would be hired part-time because of your studies. You wanted to earn some extra money, and at the same time still have time to study, meet friends and rest a bit. Working in the cafe was relaxing and really enjoyable; the smell of coffee, cookies and ice cream was lovely. You felt like you were on vacation at your grandma’s house.

↘ Lawliet was obviously one of the regular customers who just went to the cafe where you worked on a sunny day. I suppose he’d be a bit surprised to see a new face behind the cash register who also had great use of a coffee machine and knowledge of making hot drinks.

↘ For a short moment he would be watching you from his table, and as soon as you noticed him – it wasn’t hard to notice the strangely seated dark-haired man – you came closer to him, asking what he wanted at that moment. Of course, you recommended some things and he nod his head.

↘ I think he would be distrustful and at the same moment very curious about your person. In any case, he then asked for three different pieces of cake (chocolate one, with strawberries and whipped cream, and an apple pie) and one large coffee with a lot of brown sugar. He also asked for a cup of ice cream and extra waffles.

↘ “... You like sweet things a lot, don’t you?” You asked with a slight smile, hiding the notebook in the pocket of your black apron.

↘ For a brief moment, the young man was silent, and when he looked into your shiny eyes, he nodded slightly once again. His gaze measured you from head to toe a second later.

↘ “Yes, I really like sweet things.” He pushed one corner of his mouth up and you just blushed on your cheeks and whole nose. You quickly apologized to the male, saying you were going to prepare his order, and he just chuckled.

↘ Now he was definitely more curious about you. You seemed 98% trustworthy (he took the 2% from you because you wrote with a green pen and it was a bit crazy for him).

↘ First meeting? Definitely at some loud party full of alcohol and heavy music. I think you would have a great time on the dance floor with your friends who pulled you out of the house for the first time in a long time (you know; work and study, family problems, fatigue and a simple aversion to life).

↘ Your dress perfectly matched your figure and hairstyle, and you danced to one of your favorite songs with a huge smile, while singing its lines loudly. Your three female friends had as much fun as you, drinking beer or other stronger drinks.

↘ Mihael would have noticed you at the very beginning; since you entered the club in the basement, his eyes were on you the whole time. He watched your face, smile, body, hand movements and lips as they moved to the beat of the song. He was fucking delighted with you, and at the same time, for the first time in his life, he felt the shyness in his heart. It was strange, new and interesting for him, not gonna lie.

↘ For the next few minutes of the party, he totally didn’t know how to start a conversation with you. Fortunately, after another quarter of an hour, he no longer had to think about a way and an excuse to approach you.

↘ At one point, Mello noticed that one of the club’s guests was harassing you and offering you a drink in an unpleasant way. You tried to politely push the insistent teenager away from you, but the man did not give up. 

↘ Only upset Mihael, who took the gun out from behind his back, made the twenty-x-year-old apologize to you and quickly run away from the dance floor, and then probably from the party venue.

↘ Delighted by the behavior of a stranger, you thanked him with a slight smirk on your lips.

↘ “You didn’t accept a drink from him, but will you make an exception for me? They serve good Martini here.” He asked uncertainly, and you just nodded.

↘ Well... Your friends were always right that you really like bad boys.

↘ It’s hard for me to say where your first meeting would take place, but after a short while a very simple and logical headcanon came to my mind.

↘ I think you would be the sister/cousin/daughter of one of the people who worked for Nate and that is how you would get to know each other (over time).

↘ When he saw you for the first time, he would be fascinated; you were really beautiful to him and just plain interesting, but on the other hand he was afraid of you. 

↘ Even if you were close to one of his employees, he had to be careful and alert. Nevertheless, he would watch you closely every time you visit your family at their workplace.

↘ It would take days or even weeks for Nate to speak to you; I think it would be something as simple as asking for help with paperwork or making a domino together. But you would be very glad and very blushed at his precious proposal.

↘ He would still be watching you closely, admiring your neatness and passion for the task entrusted to you. White-haired – interestingly – praising you from time to time. 

↘ Near wouldn’t say much, but he would definitely have a talent for light, intelligent pickup lines.

↘ “You have neat and really pretty fingers.”

↘ “Thank you.”

↘ “You’re pretty too, of course.”

Mello Headcanons

Mello is an enthousiastic violin player and he will defend this instrument with his life. He also hates viola players as he finds them pretentious, high-class and violins are clearly superior.

He is a cat person (Mello however, would never admit that).

He hates video games because he always loses to Matt.

He's a pompous diva when it comes to fashion.

He HATES authority figures.

He lost in chess to Near once and never played it again since "It's a stupid game anyway."

He's a master poker player and Matt and him went to Las Vegas once and got kicked out for almost making the casino's bankrupt

He once accidentaly ran over a prairy dog in Matt's car and demanded to be passenger princess from there on.

His go-to alcohol beverage is whisky and considers anything else beneath him.

amazing art by @valfeathers ! go check out his account cuz he only posts death note ( loser lol imagine ) ( i got permission from him to use this piece ) i decided to post some of my own headcanons cuz my ego is large and i like seeing myself on the wammy's house/boys tags warning: i don't have a specific problem with any of the characters/ships on the wammy boys tag and i completely understand comfort ships. i am in no way trying to force my headcanons onto you and i respect your opinion! i swear i'm just trying to write some platonic stuff cuz i don't see it on the tags a lot. i don't want to get into any fights and disagreements over these and i understand that this might be out of character but i still find it fun to imagine a situation where these three can be brothers in peace cuz they're my comfort characters <3 however, i appreciate mentions of any critiques or plotholes in my headcanons as long as it's civil and respectful in addition if you want to add onto these headcanons or tell me your headcanons my messages are open and i'd appreciate it a lot! i love these guys and i really wanna read more of them :) 1- probably the most common headcanon but i think that whilst successors have their own rooms matt normally sneaks out and has sleepovers/study sessions in mello's dorm cuz he's an extroverted weirdo and gets lonely in his room sometimes likewise, mello and matt sneak out of wammy's house to go to concerts and festivals nearby, the longest they've probably escaped for is a week, maybe a week and a half and they wake up on their assigned street bench with roger towering over them 2- i see a lot of tropes in media where if someone doesn't like the food they just feed it to their dog when the parents/cooks aren't looking. (idk if this happens in real life BUT) i think mello and matt would find random food in the wammy canteen like plain crisps or desserts or cereals or bread, stuff that's not too overwhelming for near. cuz mello is afraid of being nice or something he would always be so dramatic about it he'd be like "someone stepped on my foot while i was getting your coco pops, you owe me your life now". 2.5- near would get those small pieces of side bread and a jacket potato for lunch & which was probably his autism-safe-food for 99% of the time in wammy's house, but sometimes he'd get something extremely cursed like plain pasta and cheese. and that's how he cheated the wammy's house nutritional system. 3- punishments in wammy's house would vary from detention to cleaning dishes or scraping litter. they would also have to do room service, for example near probably corrected a teacher's method and had to clean out mello's room. matt and mello would take advantage of lunch helper duties to sneak out chocolate, chips and other stuff. if they felt like it they'd pick up some stuff for near as well. those are the only ones i can remember off the top of my head, but i will make a part two eventually about the successor program and how each wammy boy got into it, the benefits and how long it lasts, thank you so much for reading this much if you got here!

♡ he's not very cautious when it comes to people in general so youre no exception

♡ even if he makes it look like he doesn't like making new friends, he does

"hey, you're matt right?" you sat on the floor next to the boy who was playing a video game. he barely acknowledged your question but nodded. you looked over his shoulder to see what had him so entranced. the screen showed various characters that you recognized easily. "is that pokemon?" you asked a little excitedly and matt reciprocated it. "yeah!" he was a little too enthusiastic to find someone else who liked the game he was playing but he didn't mind already accepting he had a new friend. whether you liked it or not

♡ besides you the only other person he was really friends with was mello

♡ regardless of the shared interest he just liked hanging out with you anyway

"i'd be better if you weren't bothering me." for such a small kid he had a big attitude. "alright then." and so the next 10 minutes before matt came back were silent and awkward.

❀ mello is usually fine with the absurd things you suggest to do when you're bored- but what? having someone personally pamper him? someone actually showing him that they care about him and his wellbeing? the fuck?

he's just really confused as to why you want to give him a spa day

he's gonna act all tough and defensive when you suggest it as if he's too hardcore for a spa day, but really, he's kinda into the idea

"Please, Mello? Just this once." "Fine- if you insist."

"What is this shit even supposed to be?" Mello glanced from the open container of moisturizer to you, his expression disdainful as he peered into the jar.

You smiled cheerfully, paying no mind to Mello's attitude- after all, he'd agreed to this in the first place. "It's a hair mask! It really helps with dry or damaged hair, and I know you really haven't taken care of your hair like you should be..."

Mello scoffed, but didn't deny this. "I don't have time."

"Okay, Mello," you chuckled, slightly exasperated as you moved towards him. "Here, I'll help you put yours in."

"And now my hair feels disgusting. Happy?"

"As a matter of fact, I am," you replied brightly before clapping your hands together. "Next, we're gonna do face masks!"

Mello automatically recoiled, his face repulsed. "Huh? We have to put this stuff on our faces?"

"What- no, of course not. Face masks are different from hair masks," you explained, tearing open two thin bags each containing a sage green face mask. To show Mello, you took one out and held it in front of your face, making sure your features aligned with the holes in the mask. "See?"

"That looks terrifying as hell."

You couldn't help but laugh as you set the mask back down on the bag. "Think so? Wait till we get to put cucumbers over our eyes."

"Wait- the fuck?"

"Hey- you agreed to this! You gotta go the whole way now."

Mello let out a melodramatic groan, but you could tell he wasn't really annoyed. "Black. I'm getting black."

"Mello. You wear the same chipped polish every day. It's time for an upgrade, dude." You stepped aside from the table behind you to display the numerous bottles of nail polish you'd laid out. "Choose whatever colors you want- one for fingernails and one for toenails. And you can't choose black."

"We're doing both?"

"Pick two colors!"

"What- fine."

"Are you trying to make this weird?"

Undeterred, you shot a wide smile Mello's way, and slightly flustered, he dropped his sullen gaze to the ground. "Not at all. I'm only doing this because you haven't relaxed since the day you were born, so..."

Mello, whom you had forced into a chair, looked up abruptly, no doubt preparing to protest- but realizing you were probably right, he folded his arms across his chest. "Whatever. Do what you want."

"Thank you." You leaned over to kiss him quickly on the nose, to which he turned his eyes to the sky, avoiding your gaze.

༊* he ends up enjoying the massage way more than he expected himself to, although he absolutely won't admit it. well, you can tell anyway.

"You haven't said anything snarky yet," you informed Mello, a brow raised. "Have I broken you already?"

You had already started a hot shower, waiting for it to steam up a little more before it was ready.

"Don't be dumb. I'm wondering if this will be the only thing I can actually get into in this so-called 'spa day.'"

"Hm? What makes this less miserable?" you queried curiously.

"I get to see you naked."

"Oh- Jesus." Now it was your turn to stare at the ground, face hot as you began heading to the shower, Mello beside you.

"So how do you put this stuff on?" Matt asked, popping the container open and sticking a finger into the moisturizer. "You just drench your hair in this stuff?"

"Well, there's a specific way you have to apply it so you get full coverage," you explained. "Here, let me- Matt?"

You hadn't even begun your explanation before Matt had already turned the whole thing over on his head, tapping the bottom of the container to get all of the product out. Unfazed by the stuff dripping from his hair and sliding down his cheeks, he promptly looked back at you expectantly. "What's next?"

Finally, you'd managed to clean most of the hair mask from Matt's face- although there was still glossy residue on his clothes, and his hair was full of product. With an exasperated shake of your head, you set down the damp rag you'd been using and picked up a face mask.

"That looks a little freaky," Matt remarked, an eyebrow raised at the mask you held over your face.

"Clear skin doesn't," you replied nonchalantly, placing it on your skin and moving to get Matt's face mask. Matt, in the meantime, peered into the bowl of dewy cucumbers with an odd look. "What are these for? Do we eat them?"

You spun around instantly. "Matt, no-"

Too late- your boyfriend had already decided to munch on the green vegetable slices, popping at least three into his mouth and frowning slightly. "These taste weird as hell."

"I- good grief, Matt, you weren't supposed to eat them!"

"Really? Wow." Matt sent you an innocently bright smile, cucumbers sitting in front of his teeth. "My bad."

Regardless of Matt's antics, you couldn't help but smile.

"I can totally do my own nails, you know."

"Yeah, well, after that hair mask stunt, I don't trust you around this stuff," you retorted, setting down the barrage of nail polish bottles you had. "Choose two colors- one for your fingers and one for your feet."

"Why don't I just get a different color for every nail?" Matt asked flippantly, bent over to observe the nail colors you'd laid out.

"Because you have too many digits for that. Now choose or I'm choosing for you," you answered, giving Matt a pointed look.

Now Matt grinned in amusement. "Ha! There are easily thirty different colors here. You just don't have the patience." Casually, he danced over to the still present bowl of cucumbers and popped one into his mouth.

You shrugged before laughing out loud. "You aren't wrong."

"Why do I need a massage?"

"Because you hang around Mello twenty-seven hours a day."

Matt gave you an amused look. "What does my hanging out with Mello have to do with me needing a massage? And also, there aren't that many hours in a day. Just saying."

"I know that, genius. What I mean is, Mello is the most uptight person I know, and I'm sure it's not doing you any favors. Now sit on the chair." You indicated a wooden chair in the center of the room.

Matt raised a brow at it skeptically before glancing back at you oddly. "This is supposed to be a massage chair?"

"Well, I really can't go out and buy a big fancy recliner when we're in hiding because the goddamn police are looking for you," you replied with a dramatic eye roll.

"You know, I figured I wouldn't be able to relax with a massage from you anyway, but you're really making it worse."

"I'm still better than Mello."

"Are you?"

"Uh-" Quickly, you snatched up one of the jars and skimmed over the words on the label before putting it down and smiling brightly. "Nope! All good. Also, I had to buy a million of these because your hair is insane and I really doubt you take care of it like you should. You're welcome."

"Thanks?" Near picked up a strand of white hair and twirled it in between his fingertips before glancing up to watch you open one jar. "Do you just... put it in your hair?"

"Pretty much."

Near paused and stared at the jars for a second before looking back up at you expectantly. Feeling his eyes on you, you looked back up at him questioningly.

"Do... you need me to show you?"

"That would be nice."

You had to fight the urge to laugh at how clueless your boyfriend was when it came to these matters. "That's what's supposed to happen- see? No side effects."

"I believe I've seen these before... I may know how to apply one if I can remember correctly." Tentatively, Near took one in between his index finger and thumb and promptly plastered it on his face, looking at you expectantly. "Is this right?"

You blinked a couple of times before smiling slightly. "Uh- yeah. But don't forget the cucumbers!"

"To... eat?"

"Nope! You put them over your eyes to get rid of eyebags."

"Eyebags? I am only nineteen- I don't think those are an issue yet-"

"Yeah? When was the last time you slept more than two hours at night?"

"I get plenty of sleep," Near retorted defensively. "Just last night I was able to-" Suddenly, he cut himself off, mind blanking as he tried to recall a night where he'd gotten an adequate amount of sleep.

You raised a brow at Near pointedly. "Case and point."

What about things Mello loves about Matt?

- Matt always takes a couple tries to light his cigarettes. His hands are pretty shaky and he either ends up blowing out the flame while he’s breathing or shaking hard enough it goes out on its own

- While Matt isn’t an overly touchy person he likes to lean on Mello. Just sitting close and leaning against him to read or watch whatever Mello is doing. Mello calls him a weighted blanket.

- Matt lets Mello hog the blanket every night and only sometimes complains during the winter. Mello likes to twist himself up in the covers. Matt has grown used to sleeping with only his leg covered.

- Matt always has a stupid quip, no matter how serious the situation. At one point it grated on Mello but now it just breaks the tension for him. The only time Matt didn’t make a stupid remark was after L died and it drove Mello a little crazy.

- He loves the gap in his teeth when he smiles. Extra point for when he sticks his tongue through a little. Always makes Mello laugh

Please do not seize. That is bad for your health. But I personally love this Mello fellow.

Mello would never cry because if something you’ve done in front of you. He’s too proud. After enough years of being so high strung he could have a breakdown around you but only if he really trusted you not to make fun of him.

He is a very high strung person. He had to be to be in pace with the other Wammy kids. Get him to relax, get him to trust you, and it gets exceptionally easy to get him to melt. Even if he tries to deny it he’s very easy to fluster when he’s not on edge, and the most sure fire way to do it is via words of affection. Compliment him when he isn’t literally putting all his energy into trying to be on par, make him feel adequate, and he will turn into a very reluctant puddle.

He does not laugh much genuinely. It’s exceptionally hard to make him laugh from baseline. He’s a dark comedy kind of guy; as much as he wants his tastes to be sophisticated in regards to what he finds funny, something about horrific, absurdist humor really gets him, particularly if it’s got something to do with something he has personal experience with and especially if you come up with it while the bad thing is happening.

He’s not super phased by physical touch. He’s not even super phased by you saying stuff to him in public. If you’re alone and you’re genuinely trying to make moves on him though? He has no idea what to do. If he’s not in control emotionally regard, if he’s genuinely having a moment with you, he is totally lost, which isn’t a bad thing but does mean that he will be bright red and struggling to regain footing. Give him a second to adjust if you don’t want him to be too embarrassed; he’s not super experienced but he’s trying his best.

Freebie hc: I’m not sure if I’ve said it before but Mello absolutely loves showing you off. If he could have you on his lap all the time while he’s talking shop with his guys he absolutely would, but barring that he would want you hanging off his arm pretty much all the time. He enjoys it for a lot of reasons— he likes how jealous other people are that you’re with him, likes knowing other people know he treats you well, likes knowing that you aren’t dead in a ditch somewhere— but his favorite part is that it means you can see how well his whole operation is going, that he can impress you.
