#Midoriya Hisashi

So, I was thinking, and while we know that Hisashi Midoriya's quirk is fire-breathing, we don't know any actual details about it. Like, does he breathe out a gas that he can ignite with a spark from his mouth/tongue/teeth? Does he need to consume fire first? And what vestigial mutations would he have passed on to Izuku relating to fire-breathing? Any thoughts?
Fire-breathing is always my go-to when I talk about how Emitters and Mutations are not all that far apart as Quirks go.
There's really not much I can say about Hisashi's Quirk since canon tells us only that he can breathe fire. I can't even classify it because, well, the gas-organ-ignite-spark method that's popular nowadays could be considered either.
What I can do is compare it to some other Quirks we've seen.
The obvious first step is the Todoroki Family. Touya, Enji, and Shoto all possess fire Quirks that produce fire from seemingly no organ, but by igniting the air around/on themselves. They also have a inbuilt heat and fire resistance, but with a limit to how much they can take.
It's safe to say that no matter how Hisashi's Quirk works, he would be similarly difficult to burn.
Next up is Tsuburaba, from 1-B. His Quirk lets him breath out air that becomes solid. Emitter Quirk. What's important here is that how much he can use his Quirk is based on his lung capacity. I'm assuming that both Tsuburaba and Hisashi have mutations in their lungs to help their Quirks along. Especially in a Mutation Quirk, though again, I can't prove that a a Mutation necessarily has more mutations than an Emitter. Downsides of making powers all biological.
The last Quirk I think is a notable comparison is Tidal Bore, the Quirk of Big Red Dot in World Heroes' Mission. This Quirk allows him to produce vast quantities of water from his mouth, and even do so at high pressure--high enough that he can use his Quirk to lift a Trigger Bomb from that movie high enough into the air that it wouldn't be able to hurt anyone. And those bombs are fucking big. Interestingly, the wiki classifies his Quirk as Emitter even though Big Red Dot has a lion head and potentially webbed feet, so once again, Quirk Categories are bullshit.
(There's also a Quirk called Ignition from Vigilantes which has fire-breathing applications, but it appears to be similar in function to Hellflame or Burnin's Quirk otherwise)
BRD throws a massive wrinkle in any potential mutations I list--let alone Chimera having fire-breathing in addition to everything else he has going on--because apparently secondary mutations* can be whatever the hell we want them to be.
As for Midoriya inheriting any? I don't personally like the idea of people inheriting vestigial mutations but no Quirk, because at some point it becomes "Quirkless people actually do have Quirks and/or are superhuman by modern standards" which is. Uh. a completely massacre of MHA's themes.
*When discussing Quirks, I refer to Primary Mutations as any changes to the body necessary to make a Quirk function; that is, another term for the Plus Alpha Elements or the Quirk Factor. A Secondary Mutation is a mutation that is unrelated to the function of the Quirk, such as Ashido's horns, the Todoroki hair colors, Shishida's lower teeth, etc.

Suddenly a sad and uncomfortable thought settled in my head.
Remember when All Might hit Izuku on the beach after the Kamino? Remember that hunted look on Izuku's face, how he cringed and was ready to take another punch?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was like something like that had happened before.
When someone he admired and loved raised his hand against him.
What if Hisashi had once mismanaged his emotions and hit little Izuku?...
What if that's why Inko raised Izuku alone for most of his life?
All Might is a sore callus and a pain in the finger that is very difficult and unpleasant to get rid of. And seeing him everywhere - especially at home - could be very nerve-wracking and negative for Afo. And after another Hero raid on his Villain empire, Afo could lose his control when his little son, dressed as his beloved Hero and imitating his voice, “Everything will be all right! Why? Because I'm here!”, caught him in a bad moment.
A slap and an insanely angry look.
A fright and a barely contained sob.
Horror at what he had done.
The pain and incomprehension.
The betrayal of himself.
Afo might have been frightened that history might repeat itself. Once his closest person and only family had died at his hands...
So he just ran away. Went on a business trip abroad, far, far away, so as not to put those he loves the most in danger anymore. To keep them safe. From him.
And Izuku... here it was as if he didn't expect to be embraced after all. Not to be pushed away, not to run away, not to be left alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was the only thing he really wished for then...

AFO : I don't want our son to date until he's older enough. People are terrible!
Inko : Okay, when exactly he can date?
AFO : When I'm dead. Plus 3 days to make sure I'm dead.
Izuku : *digging a grave and start planning murder* I know it would be hard for mom to raise me alone but this is for love.

Midoriya: Dad, can you sign something for school?
Hisashi, shaking his head: If I sign this, you're going to have to learn how to forge my signature. If you sign it from the start, you'll be able to sign whatever you want and they'll never know.

head canon/ theories for who Hisashi is and role he'll play in the story
With DFO resting in the grave, I thought I'd give a few of my other theories I have come up with for Hisashi over the years.
He's the person the Deku narrating everything too. IDK why but for Some reason I always liked this theory. Although there no evidence that Deku is telling the story to anyone, I can't help but think it's neat.
He studies quirks, like that his job. Considering 80% of the world has a quirk I think it's fair to say there would be people studying them for many different reasons. I think he be this strange mash up of a doctor, scientist and academic. His job would make him travel around the world and study bizarre, amazing and dangerous quirks. It also be a great tie in stories wise to the quirk doomsday theory, if it turns out he was really away studying to see if that theory is actually true. (I also think that where Deku pick up his hobby for studying quirks as well) his job would make him have to be away from home for long period's of time and not easy to contact sometimes. Despite how interesting his job sounds, it actually involves a lot of paperwork and reviewing and research.
When he's home he's usually home for a good six months or more, and typically the three would do things together when he's home. Inko doesn't mind Hisashi job because he was doing it long before he met her and didn't want him to quit doing it just because they got together. And like most Japanese housewives she controls the finances he just makes the money that give them all comfortable lives.
I think he's a quite, charming guy who keeps to himself, unlike Izuku and Inko he's much more calm and never cries. He very much like's his life, he has no dreams or goal to become a hero or be out on some battle field. He's a passive guy who isn't big on violence, and see's the value in a ordinary life. I wouldn't think of him as a pushover, but like Izuku he's nice to everyone he meets. Also like Izuku he is the person you do not fuck with, he seems like a guy that vaguely feels like he's been through some stuff, it take a lot to get him mad but when he is, you run for the hills.
Izuku doesn't think of him much because he knows his dad doing just fine and is used to him going away on long trips. But also because as much as he hate to admit it, Izuku does not want to end up like his dad when he grows up. As much as he loves and respects Hisashi and think he's a good man with a stable job, he feared that if he grew up to be his dad then it's an admission to giving up on his hero dream, and just being content with ' an ordinary life'. Something he does not what to think about now that he had a real shot at being a hero. That being said, If Hisashi where to come home at anytime Izuku would absolutely be happy he's home and they go do something together.
Hisashi is the person who introduced heroes and heroics to Izuku, and arguably shaped how Izuku viewed them, and how Izuku would believe a hero would act. Hisashi like Izuku is an All Might fan, just not to Izuku level. Izuku only vaguely remembers, but Hisashi was the one installed a lot of values that is ingrained in to Izuku being, of being a good person. One of them being to never give up on saving a person and that everyone deserve a seconded chance. (I think he'll show up at some point in the flash backs that are happening)
His is neither supportive of Izuku hero dream nor is he dismissive, ultimately he just believes that Izuku life is his own and Izuku can do what he wants. Hisashi just there to provide Izuku with every possible pathway he can get, no matter how impossible they may seem.
He's AFO son, because can you imagine how hilarious that would be.

It's just hitting me that Izuku’s whole journey doesn't even focus on his family drama like because there isn't any! Like at most, we just know Hisashi is some guy who breathes fire and works overseas. That's it.
Yet, neither Inko and Izuku bring him up like that, let alone talk about how bad he is because well, what if he isn't actually a bad guy?
I kind of figure that Hisashi actually does keep in contact with his wife and son and send money. (They live in a moderately nice apartment and Midoriya has a lot of All Might merch) I like to think he tells him how he wants to be home and that he loves them dearly and the moment he can come back he's not leaving Japan.
The way Izuku and Inko act doesn't come off as if Hisashi was ever this cruel man who just up and left.
In fact, how they act reminds me of another mother and son duo from a BONES production.
Sk8 the Infinity.
Reki and his mother doesn't really show that Reki's dad is some bad guy. They don't even mention him like that just as Inko and Izuku don't and guess what?
REKI'S DAD ACTUALLY SHOWS UP AT THE END OF THE ANIME!! He is actually there chilling with his family!
It's how I imagine Hisashi's possible appearance in the story. I would be fine if he shows up in the end with his wife and son.
It's so often that protagonists tend to have bad relationships with their parents and/or said parents left out of their lives for selfish reasons. Or they're dead. And then those relationships be the catalysist to a lot of the protagonist's problems. Especially in the Shonen genre.

Crack au where everything is the same but Tsukauchi, Yagi, Hisashi, and Inko are all married
They’ve been married before Izuku was born and honestly this just means that Izuku has 3 dads and a mom. He’s going to learn so much out-of-pocket things and so much things about the criminal justice system and heroics. It’s great.
Izuku is going to learn about heroics, police work, the law, and finance. He’s going to learn so much and he’s going to be such a bean.
This also means that Bakugou is going to go and know immediately that Yagi is All Might. Yeah it’s supposed to be a secret but Kacchan is Izuku’s best friend! They can both keep a secret.
Naturally, this leads to Bakugou now doubling down on becoming Number 1 with the added bonus of his second dream being to beat up the Number 1 Hero
Other things include:
-Izuku and Melissa Shield meeting each other because of Yagi taking him to visit David and the two of them becoming best friends almost immediately. It’s great and from then on they regularly video call each other and Izuku always comes to Yagi’s visits to David
-Good parents Hisashi, Inko, Naomasa, and Toshinori that’s important. That’s very important.
-Bakugou constantly talking shit about All Might and saying that he’s an average hero. He eats dinner with the Midoriya family every day.
-Actually just go and take all of Bakugou’s energy on bullying Midoriya and put that on Yagi. Bakugou’s new target is to take the spot of Izuku’s Hero Dad and make sure that he fucking retires early because Bakugou. That old man better watch his back because every time that man stops Bakugou is getting closer.
-Sir Nighteye being that weird uncle that you kind of just have around. He gets better but for a while Izuku and Katsuki told him that his vibes are terrible and to get out of their house
-Gran Torino being that Grandpa that would go and let you do all the irresponsible shit. He keeps the kids safe but boy oh boy there has been several instances of a heart attack
-Midoriya Inko being a kid of All For One, a result of a One-Night Stand. She cut contact with him a while ago don’t worry. She would go and rip out one of his glands with her Quirk if he ever contacts her again
-Now please imagine All For One finding out that the All Might, the Detective that helped All Might, and the the most Average Man in exsitance all are married to his Daughter.
-Shinsou Hitoshi also being a kid of All For One, this time on purpose. Don’t worry he runs away and meets Tsukauchi. In fact you can read a fic about it here. (Many Kudos to Mod Boreal and their Writing.)
-Izuku still getting One For All not because of the fact he’s All For One’s Grand Kid but because he display qualities of being truly heroic. He wants to be a hero and wants to save as many people as he can, no matter the cost
-No one in the class knowing who Izuku’s dads are and thinking it’s just Inko
-Naturally, Katsuki’s goes and spreads rumors that Izuku’s dads are in America for “work”. Izuku is screaming inside because that actually is correct. Hisashi is in America for work but not Naomasa and Toshinori!
-Izuku says this but he starts calling Toshinori “dad” whenever he can. The man coughs up blood every time Izuku says it
-In the corner, Todoroki Shouto starts making conspiracy theory boards.

While working on an article for you (which I want to publish soon), I realized one small but very curious detail.
Please read what the Doctor says back in Chapter One of the story.
Tumblr media
He clarifies to Inko what generation she is. He knows for a fact that she is the fourth generation. But he also begins to ask about her quirk. Inko, in addition to her quirk, also names her husband's quirk.
But the Doctor does not specify which generation her husband is. Also, the Doctor doesn't gather a history of who had the quirk and when it appeared; maybe the next of kin was quirkless, which could have been passed on to the boy. After all, Izuku must have inherited the extra joint from someone, right?
And why is that? Because the Doctor didn't need the information, because he knows everything without the addition. He knows what generation Mrs. Midoriya's husband is, and where the rudimentary joint came from🥲

Let it be known that, for all two-hundred years All for One had been alive, he had had standards. Standards that didn't exactly preclude a bit of flirting, a bit of teasing, and a bit of cajoling to get what he wanted (Quirks). However, One for All, the forbidden stockpile, required something a bit… More.
If normal methods of seduction were unable to sway the hearts of those such as Daigoro Banjo and Shinomori Hikage, then he would commit to simply making them so uncomfortable as to become infuriated… And that was when All for One would strike.
On the other hand, All for One had been unprepared for the concept of his seductions ever working. As a matter of fact, let it be known All for One was prepared for the concept of pregnancy. After all, one does not obsessively collect Quirks without stockpiling at least three womb, two hyper-fertility, five cellular acceleration, and fourteen age-related Quirks.
Indeed, getting pregnant was never an issue. However, there was one more important issue that All for One was unbending on. One more important to him than even One for All.
Simply put, All for One was saving himself for marriage.
That was when he found Inko. He had been bumped into by a third, unrelated party on the street, and before he even had a chance to consider eviscerating the ranting and raving man and blowing his cover, Inko had flown in to tell off the miscreant with the sort of rage only a sleep-deprived bar examinee could muster.
It had been love at first sight.
