THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: S3/EP6: TAKE THE DEVILED EGGS Original Air Date: Nov 5, 2002
Links to all previous episodes can be found in my Pinned Post.
Pre Opening Credits Filler: Lorelai and Rory are sorting junk mail . Of course I had to google whether or not "Shreiber's" was ever a real catalog. Google results were inconclusive. Lorelai's Poconos shirt is really cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Post opening credits sequence: A town meeting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miss Patty and Babette are too good for this world.
Tumblr media
I love seeing Luke smile. As the entire room rises to exit, Taylor instructs them not to leave and everyone immediately listens. I will never understand how he has this much power or why Luke dutifully attends every one of thse things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stefon from SNL voice: This hot new club, Stars Hollow Town Meeting, has everything. Animal cruelty, blind obedience, women who pick up dates at funerals, politicians dunking on neurodivergent loners, protest supression.
Tumblr media
(tac·i·turn /ˈtasəˌtərn/ adjective (of a person) reserved or uncommunicative in speech; saying little.)
Tumblr media
Pretty rich for Lorelai to be dunking on loners when the guy she's in love with has no friends and her daughter has one friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least the loner must be intelligent. Evidenced by the fact that he doesn't waste his time in town meetings. But seriously...imagine you're this guy minding his own business just trying to buy some books and enact political change with protest so the mayor-type-guy calls everyone in town together to dunk on how weird and creepy and quiet you are behind your back (see also: Jess, who was also a child. And who also has to endure shitty comments about not being talkative enough).
Tumblr media
Is Kirk the only neurodivergent person in Stars Hollow who is allowed to be himself?
With our powers combined, we are our the Neurodivergent And/Or Deeply Misunderstood Outcast Super Squad! Kirk! A guy who talks to mailboxes! A quiet guy who likes books! Another quiet guy who likes books! Town Troubador! Rory!
Tumblr media
Look who else is way too smart to waste his time at a town meeting. His precious whacking off time is over, Luke is heading home, and he is outta here.
Tumblr media
Now, let's say the Gilmore Girls in-show timeline lines up with the air dates of the episodes (which it tends to do much of the time). "Teach Me Tonight" aired April 30th, 2002. This episode aired on November 5th, 2002. 6 months and 6 days prior to this town meeting. Rory's not-even-broken arm has healed. Lorelai, kindly...get the fuck over it and shut up. Lorelai: when did Jess get a car? Luke: None of your god damn beeswax. Luke had no idea Jess had a car.
Tumblr media
I always found it interesting that Jess was raised in the city his whole life, but knew how to drive. Many (but not all) New Yorkers get around on foot or public transportation and many never even learn to drive at all. But there's just no way Liz was a New Yorker who had a car that Jess could borrow, she wasn't helping him practice, she wasn't paying for lessons with an instructor, and before he arrived in The Hollow the only life he knew was getting around on public transport and walking. We come to learn he knows a bit about car repair as well. And he's only 18. Definitely not saying it's implausible or unbelievable that he knows how to drive. Far from it. Just something to ponder. Jess is scrappy. He finds a way. Lorelai has the absolute fucking audacity to tell Luke "You needs to get a handle on Jess" because he wasn't aware of this car purchase. How about you get a handle on your perfect child before she sleeps with her married ex boyfriend and steals a boat huh. How bout them apples.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMG OMG.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Narrator: Lorelai Gilmore was in fact, not sorry for equating a 6 month old minor car accident that caused a hairline wrist fracture with 1st degree murder, and she would not butt out now or ever again.

Mass anti-Israel protests which stopped traffic out of Manhattan Monday were secretly coordinated by radicals — and are a dramatic escalation of their tactics, experts tell The Post.
At least six radical anti-Israel groups were behind the rush-hour protests which stranded commuters on the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges and the Holland Tunnel.
The groups, which include the Democratic Socialists of America whose members include squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, co-ordinated their actions then blasted their social media accounts with glossy films reveling in the misery they brought.
They also deployed the Hollywood star power of Susan Sarandon, the actress who previously had to apologize for antisemitic comments at a rally in Manhattan.
Justin Finkelstein, analyst with Center on Extremism at the Anti Defamation League, said it was evidence of secret backchannels between the groups and told The Post: “I this is the most disruptive that I’ve seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It’s slowing down daily movement of New Yorkers and making it impossible not to notice them. I think that is their goal. They think these direct actions raise awareness of the Palestinian cause.”
And he warned more attempts to interrupt ordinary people’s lives are on the way and said: “Anything that gets them visibility is something they might consider.”
The six groups know to have taken part in what they called “an autonomous collective” were Palestinian Youth Movement; Democratic Socialists of America, New York branch; Writers Against War On Gaza; Jewish Voice for Peace; Al-Awda; and Critical Resistance.
Between them they boast ties not just to AOC and Sarandon, but to “Angels in America” playwright Tony Kushner, elite colleges including Yale, Brown and UCLA — and have received funding from the Ben & Jerry’s Foundation, a Rockefeller family foundation and through Schwab Charitable, a fund set up with the help of the investment company Charles Schwab to allow people to make donations to other non-profits.

On #InternationalWomensDay New Yorkers mobilized in Union Square to raise the struggle of our sisters in Palestine. As we flooded the streets in defiance of the riot cops mobilized against us, the NYPD reacted more aggressively than before — arresting over 30 people in 5 hours. Minutes after the action started, a zionist provocateur entered the crowd. When confronted, he pushed a WOL organizer in the chest. While protesters attempted to eject him from the crowd, NYPD formed a wall to protect him and ignored that he physically assaulted a woman. The same cops threatened to arrest the same woman for initially using a mic to deliver a speech from Palestinian women in Gaza. Despite NYPD threats to arrest us, we read the statement using the people’s mic, reverberating the words of our sisters through the streets. As we made our way south from Union Square, the NYPD’s James McCarthy and Timothy Beaudette were laser focused on preventing us from taking the streets, even though the march was too large to fit on the sidewalk. As we have seen time and time again, the people are fully capable of outsmarting, outrunning, and outmaneuvering the most well-funded police force in the world. We were fully on the street when we crossed Cooper Union. Scattered arrests occurred by then + the SRG Biker Squad started cutting into our lines attempting to break us apart. This did not have the intended effect, as we are not afraid of one large march being split into several. One section of the march stormed the Oculus despite SRG’s attempts to lock the doors. The other section winded its way through Manhattan before both linking up at Zuccotti Park, where protestors noticed Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry and began chanting at him until he retreated. By the time we closed out ~30 people were arrested. Once again, NYPD beat women unconscious, threw them to the pavement, & we have seen reports of people being beaten inside a police vehicle. Pedestrian bikers who were not part of the protest were ripped off their bicycles by Chief James McCarthy and thrown to the floor. Once the rally dispersed and protestors went to jail support, cops once again engaged in a riot at 1 Police Plaza. Several people who were there to support the arrestees were themselves arrested for the crime of standing on the sidewalk or crossing the street in a crosswalk. Never forget that on International Women’s Day, the NYPD beat women until they were unconscious, the week that the ACLU settlement, meant specifically to restrict the police from engaging in the kinds of actions they use at many of our rallies, was intended to go into effect. We call on all supporters of Palestine to REFUSE to normalize with the forces of repression: REFUSE photo-ops during Ramadan with the Mayor’s Office, rip up your White House Iftar invitation, make a commitment to refuse getting permits for all demonstrations. The struggle to #FreePalestine requires unity in non-normalization with the entities financing and sponsoring our people’s genocide. Do anything and everything you can to build the capacity of our movement to sustain itself and survive this moment.

(New York Jewish Week) – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the prominent progressive Democratic New York congresswoman from New York City, condemned a pro-Palestinian rally that took place over the weekend in Times Square, calling it “unacceptable and harmful.”
“It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement on Monday night. “That is a core tenet of solidarity. The bigotry and callousness expressed in Times Square on Sunday were unacceptable and harmful in this devastating moment.”
The rally on Sunday came as news was still emerging of widespread atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists who invaded Israel, killing more than 900 people, wounding more than 2,000 and taking more than 100 captive. It coincided with a pro-Israel rally taking place outside the United Nations.
The pro-Palestinian rally has drawn criticism from a broad swath of city and state officials. Mayor Eric Adams posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that “it is disgusting that this group of extremists would show support for terrorism.”
But Ocasio-Cortez’s condemnation of the rally is notable because of her frequent criticism of Israel as well as her membership in the Democratic Socialists of America, a far-left group that endorsed Sunday’s rally. The group’s New York chapter posted on X on Saturday that the gathering was “In solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation and apartheid.”
In her statement, Ocasio-Cortez said the rally “also did not speak for thousands of New Yorkers who are capable of rejecting both Hamas’ horrifying attacks against innocent civilians as well as the grave injustices and violence Palestinians face under the occupation.”
Earlier this year, Ocasio-Cortez skipped President Isaac Herzog’s address to Congress during a visit to Washington, D.C. In 2021, she switched her vote from “no” to “present” during a Congressional vote to approve $1 billion in new U.S. funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. That same year, during a previous conflict with Hamas, she called Israel an “apartheid state.”
She wasn’t the only vocal progressive official in the city to denounce the rally. New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who is Jewish and has previously identified as a member of the DSA, called the rally “abominable.” “Today’s DSA rally – which effectively celebrated Hamas’ murder & kidnapping of hundreds of Israeli civilians, including children & grandparents – was abominable. There is no place for glorifying terror, left, center, or right,” Lander said in a statement.
Jamaal Bowman, another member of New York’s congressional delegation who belongs to the DSA, has not commented on the rally but released a statement condemning Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
“I strongly condemn the horrific attacks by Hamas and am saddened by the loss of precious lives, especially on the holy day of Simchat Torah,” said Bowman, whose congressional district includes parts of Westchester County and the Bronx, in a statement.
“We need a way to end this deadly violence that is killing and traumatizing generations of Israelis and Palestinians alike—including the blockade of Gaza. I have been to the Gaza border and know that Israelis and Palestinians are constantly living in fear. We must work harder to ensure peace in the region,” his statement added.
Ocasio-Cortez released a similar statement — separate from her comments on the rally — about the attacks on Monday. Others in the group of progressive congress members known as the “Squad,” including Missouri’s Cori Bush and Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, released statements that primarily attributed the blame to Israel.
“Today is devastating for all those seeking a lasting peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine. I condemn Hamas’ attack in the strongest possible terms,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
She also called for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation in the region.
“No child and family should ever endure this kind of violence and fear, and this violence will not solve the ongoing oppression and occupation in the region,” the statement read.

I like the idea that Rico defensively wears green on St. Patty's because he's a New Yorker and wasn't about to let his coworkers pinch him all day, and the rest of the Vice Squad is just like "it's what day" because there's not an Irishman between them

I’ve been thinking about venom!steve and so much about Steve makes me think of flash Thompson (from the comics) like all the pieces are falling into place
I need you to know it is embarrassing for me to admit but. my childhood spiderman comics were like. Thick volumed Essentials that had the original comics in order, (not embarrassing) and. and the Ultimate Spiderman comics. (pretty embarrassing but it gave us Miles Morales and at least I didn't like the ultimate avengers equiv which I thought everyone was mean in and I was fucking right.)
and also I very much like the venom!stobin, Deapool!Eddie, and Spidey!dustin au that @steveharringtonsstrugglemealsls and I have been going back and forth on HOWEVER spidey eddie is very fun toooooo
SO I had to read the wiki for venom flash and y'know what. yeah. alright. I could see it being different (what with Steve being pretty suspicious of the government by the time he graduated and not joining the military) but him being friends with eddie by the end of highschool? nice. oh man being a government project going rogue and joining up with a superhero squad? hell yeah. love that. (also, i forgot how bonkers and messy comics are omg. I've been firmly into reading Runaways because they [used to]not deal with all the cross over stuff. but also venom flash is wild his dating life sucks. hilarious.)(also I was reminded that in the og comics peter often laments that all these girls want him for is his mind and personality and not his rockin' bod. hilarious)
anyways I think spiderman eddie and venom steve should get their powers a few months apart, for the most dramatic appeal. Eddie, going on his first victory lap, gets bit ect. and becomes a hometown hero. I gotta say they probably aren't in hawkins, (maybe hawkins is the neighbourhood they live in in a bigger city?), and my favourtie Spiderman dynamic is that of the subway scene in Spiderman 2 where the commuters pull him into the train and give him back his mask and promise not to tell. THAT is the DEFINITIVE spiderman/New Yorker dynamic. No one knows Eddie failed senior year twice, that he's been called anything from satan whorsipper to cult leader to...worse. They just know he carries groceries for old folks and helps get cats out of trees and makes a funny quip or two as he runs from the cops after saving the day(something they don't know he's kind of used to) he's their funky little guy.
anyways few months later, mayhaps working at scoops, secret sentient goo bonds to Steve and wants him to eat homophobes' heads. Dustin thinks this is absolutely fantastic and Steve maybe kinda agrees but not for the same reason as Dustin (who is curious about aliens, who wants to test the abilities they have when in Venom Form, who is excited to know a superhero. while Steve has someone in his brain all the time and is never lonely anymore.) Steve ends up being approached by a government agent (they saw him on security camera early on to his and robin's symbiosis when they were struggling to find balance) and steve agrees at first but then is like actually.......fuck u. and runs away.
bonkers combo they are both going off the rails. idk if the Upside Down exists but in my aus it usually does so eh?

R&J Clown Takes Round ♾—Part 11
In which someone wrote a song with the lyrics “Romeo was full of shit / Juliet, she fell for it / But I’m not an idiot” or something along those lines and the Instagram people lapped it up, the sweetest clown bait. Perhaps too clownish, though, for we actually do see some pushback. Wonder of wonders! Also featuring some stray Gnomeo and Juliet clownery here and there. Allons-y.
“Romeo /= Cool”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gnomeo and Juliet does suck ass, but again, dude. Dude. Mercutio is canonically his friend. He literally chose Romeo and Benvolio as people to hang out with. As in, people he personally liked. If you don’t think Romeo is cool, then you have no business stanning Mercutio, who obviously does think Romeo is cool, at least before he turned all ~pussified. Or else he wouldn’t be amused/miffed/lowkey worried at Romeo’s mooning over Rosaline. Or, er, be the one to consistently ask where he was.
As for badass and cool…these are very loaded terms—badass can mean anything from macho stupid American pow-pow bullshit to honest heroic acts—but at the very least Romeo canonically gets shit done. He decides to search for Juliet and does. He climbs the garden wall and, after some consideration, shows himself. He talks to the Friar about him marrying the two like he said he would. He refuses to fight Tybalt. When Tybalt kills Mercutio, he decides to fight Tybalt and kills him. And when dumbass Paris comes along and threatens to turn him in to the authorities, Romeo kills him off and honors his last dying request to be buried next to Juliet.
Tumblr media
No and also no.
(Fun fact: I actually literally wrote a whole short story on how this very premise Would Not Happen, even in an everyone-lives AU. I’ve submitted it to The New Yorker and other magazines because I giveth no fucks. All my fucks, alas, are flown away, look at them go.)
More Romeo Hate Dumb (Reprise, Ancora Più Brutto)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No pulse nor breath no pulse nor breath no pulse nor breath—
Tumblr media
Shakespeare’s tragic protagonists do not usually have just one “tragic flaw.” But even if Romeo’s “tragic flaw” is his impatience, then it certainly Juliet’s as well.
And considering that Tybalt did not know about R&J, Romeo does not “expect to end the family feud after one discussion.” He just doesn’t give a reason why he won’t fight him.
Tumblr media
Color in the cheeks = life even if 1) Servant tells you wife is dead in Capulet’s crypt and 2) You see her interred in Capulet’s crypt and 3) She literally has no pulse or breath and is cold to the touch. Clown logic at its finest.
The R&J Defense Squad Is Here!
Tumblr media
Romeo was a discord mod, Juliet was his kitty
When the clownery is literally so bad random ass commentators handed Clown OP their ass just by speaking facts.
Tumblr media
“Their story was fine but their romance was horrible—” Without the romance, there would be no story. It’s the axis around which almost everything happens. Otherwise it’d just be two families who hate each other for no good reason doing the Hate(tm) for three hours. Oh, and they have nice, obedient, frankly basic-ass children, I guess. It’s like those people who try to argue that having any conflict in stories is white supremacy or something.
Tumblr media
The unofficial motto of this blog by this point.

By Naaman Zhou
(The New Yorker) — Last winter, on a cold pitch in London, Liverpool’s women’s team played Chelsea, which was on a seventeen-game unbeaten streak and has lately been one of the dominant teams in English women’s soccer. It was the fourth round of the F.A. Cup, a knockout competition known for the occasional surprise. Liverpool scored twice—but Chelsea had Samantha Kerr. In the thirty-second minute, the twenty-nine-year-old striker received a pass from her teammate Niamh Charles, mid-run, raised a foot near the height of her shoulder, and pummelled the ball left to right into the top corner of the goal. Shortly after halftime, she scored again, off a quick pass, after stepping into a blind spot behind a Liverpool defender. Later, the ball came her way in the air. She jumped, the neck muscles turned, the ball fell in. When the game ended, the score was Liverpool 2, Kerr 3. “It was almost a given, wasn’t it?” a commentator murmured, before it was through.
Afterward, Kerr hugged her teammates and exchanged the customary back pats. Game-changing goals are routine for her—they seem to define the entire season for others. Like all of soccer’s great strikers, Kerr has a full menu of ways to score; commentators like to call it a knack, or an eye for goal. But, with Kerr, it’s all about motion. “Next time you watch her play, see who makes the first movements,” Emma Hayes, her coach at Chelsea, once said. “It’s always Sam.” Carli Lloyd, a two-time World Cup winner with the U.S. team, told me, “She’s a sniper in front of the goal. She will hover, and she will find a way.” Between 2017 and 2022, Kerr was the top scorer in every league she played in, across the highest tiers of Australia, the United States, and England—sometimes simultaneously. It has been nearly four years since she last played a game in the National Women’s Soccer League, in the U.S., but she is still the league’s all-time top scorer, with more goals than Alex Morgan or Megan Rapinoe.
Kerr is also the captain and star player of the national team of Australia, which, along with New Zealand, is hosting the Women’s World Cup. Australia has never advanced further than the quarterfinals. The reigning champion and world No. 1 is the United States. Spain has the best player in the world, the midfielder Alexia Putellas. England won the Euros, and Canada won the gold medal in the Olympics, where Australia finished fourth. Still, in the past few months, the Australian team, known as the Matildas, has beaten or matched several of the world’s best squads. Its second-best player, the defender Ellie Carpenter, is back from a nearly yearlong injury. And there will be a home-field advantage. “I think there’s tremendous pressure,” Lloyd, who will cover this year’s tournament as an analyst for Fox Sports, told me. “If they don’t go far in this World Cup, it’s going to be deemed as a failure.”

You are 12. ████ ██ ███ ███ ██ ████ ███ ██ ██ ████. ████ ██████ ███ █████ ██████ ████ █████.*
*They wouldn’t believe you. You should’ve kept your promise.
You are 13. Your parents divorce. They can’t tolerate your behavior** any longer. But it isn’t your fault, they say, it wasn’t working out anyway. Your mother travels for work too much so your father gets custody. He’s too busy though. You pack your belongings and move in with your great-grandmother in Queens. (The world is almost destroyed by a Sumerian deity. At least that was pretty cool.)
**You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget.
You are 14. You get your voice back. You’re happier here. You like your new school and new friends. Maybe it’s all behind you.***
***You can't forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget.
You’re 15. You haven’t forgotten what happened****. But now you’re the top of class. You’ve made the cheer squad. You’re already planning on going to university. It doesn’t have to matter that you haven’t seen your mother in two years and your dad barely ever stops by. You’re worried about your great grandmother. She says weird things every so often.
****You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget.
You’re 16. You’re not sure you can keep up anymore. You’re still the top of your class but you’re missing practice. Your great grandmother is struggling. It’s hard to focus in class when you’re so worried about her. You don’t think the nonsense arguments are really about you. Sometimes it’s like she’s a different person. It’s clear her health is failing. Now with those bills it’s hard to make ends meet. Maybe you should get a part time job…
You’re 17. She’s gone.
You found her*****. You see your parents for the first time together since you were 12 at her funeral. They discuss what to do with you. You’re still in high school, you're only months from graduation. But they decide now isn’t time to discuss it.
You go home alone. You’ve never been so alone. Your parents never made a decision. You are 17, finishing high school, and now working full-time. You don’t have time for cheer or friends. Your grades slip. No one's there to notice.
*****You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget. You can’t forget.
You’re 18. You’re a college freshman. You know it will kill you but you a got a full scholarship. You knew that if you didn’t go now you’d never get the chance again. At least it’s easier to work around your job waiting tables. But rent is rising and your great-grandmother didn’t have much to leave behind. A second job sounds like hell but it may be your only choice. Who needs sleep anyway?
You meet a guy in your women’s studies class. He’s annoying and keeps hitting on you but he’s the only person you’ve ever felt you could be yourself around. You share the same taste in music. (A dead warlord makes New Yorkers angrier than usual.)
You're 19. It's been a while since you got eight hours of sleep. Over the summer you built some savings but it won't last forever. You eat the leftovers at your day job. You unplug your fridge and lamps. You don't really use them anyway. You're not home much.
You signed up for the paranormal studies course. You were always interested in the topic and did some reading yourself. You thought it would be more fun than the other electives and it fit your work schedule. You and the weird guy from your women's studies class you haven't seen in a year are the only students. Between you two and the instructor, it's a very awkward semester but an enjoyable one nonetheless.
You're 20. (After the world almost ends again.) You walk into a bookstore. You want to learn more about parapsychology and the strangeness in the world. It's the only thing keeping you sane. You were never one to let your mind wander.******
You run into your college professor. He looks more tired than you are. He introduces you to the man behind the counter, who looks worse somehow (it's probably because of the fourfold cross-rip that happened late last year). In the spur of the moment they offer you a deal. You try to keep your cool but fail.
Maybe you can turn the lights on for the first time this year.
******You. Can't. Forget.

Late Night Drives
          @honorhearted continued from X
Sarcasm ran headily in the OCB. Detectives like her, like Crockett, Lar, Stan, and Tallmadge all learned how to readily apply it as a coping mechanism. So when it is spouted off in her direction, Tubbs dignifies his commentary with a half-laugh.
Tumblr media
“After the rough night you’ve had? It seems like a requirement.” Tubbs remarks. Perhaps, she is just too accustomed to Crockett and his coping method for they had unwittingly rubbed off on the former New Yorker (with or without her full knowledge of them having done so).
Drifting dark eyes float about the squad room before finally turning upon Tallmadge. “Asking you to lighten up would be like asking Mean Joe Greene of the Pittsburgh Steelers to dance ballet.” She quips back, implying such a feat would be damn-near impossible. While she was not a fan of the Steel curtain, the reputation of toughness preceded the hulking football player.
Her own smile mirrors his. “Is that your way of issuing an invitation? Cause it sounds like you’re most definitely asking me to come along.....” She returns.

2nd Test: Winning A Test In These Conditions Is Not Easy; Bowlers Stepped Up, Says Rohit Sharma
Tumblr media
Rajasekhara Reddy ACA: After defeating England by 106 runs to win the second Test, India captain Rohit Sharma lauded the bowlers for stepping up to lead the team to victory in not-so-easy conditions. In day four’s play at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Monday, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each for India to defend 399 after bowling out England for 292. Bumrah, whose spell of 6-45 gave India a vital 171-run first-innings lead, was the pick of the bowlers again with his spell of 3-46. Bumrah finishes the Visakhapatnam Test with match figures of 9-91, which is also the best figures for an Indian fast-bowler on home soil in Tests against England. Ashwin bowled well to take 3-72 and is now just one wicket away from reaching 500 Test scalps. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar took a wicket each in India bouncing back from the 28-run defeat in Hyderabad with an emphatic series-squaring victory at Visakhapatnam. "(Bumrah) He's a champion player for us, done the job for a while. When you win a game like that you have to look at the overall performance. We know that winning a Test match in these conditions is not going to be easy, the bowlers stepped up,” said Rohit after the match ended. With the bat, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a majestic 209 in the first innings, and Rohit appreciated his efforts. "(Jaiswal) Looks like a very good player, understands his game. Got a long way to go, of course. It was an exceptional knock. He has a lot to offer the team, I hope he stays humble. The wicket was good to bat on, a lot of the batters got starts and didn't convert. They are young, new to this format, it will take some time." An emphatic series-squaring victory at Visakhapatnam meant India managed to bounce back from the 28-run defeat in Hyderabad. The next game of the series will be held at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot on February 15, giving both teams a ten-day break. "This win gives us a lot of confidence. Very proud of such a young squad, to come up against a team like that. Very positive. We want these guys to have time in the middle. It's a good challenge, England have been playing good cricket. Not going to be an easy series. Three more games to go, need to make sure we do most things right," added Rohit. Bumrah, who was named Player of the Match, produced magical deliveries in the match – like castling the middle and leg stumps of Ollie Pope with a menacing yorker. "I don't look at numbers. If you think about numbers there is a lot of pressure. I'm very happy that we won and contributed to that. As a youngster that was the first delivery I learned in tennis-ball cricket (which led to Pope’s dismissal). I used to feel that is the only way to take wickets." Bumrah also said with the team in transition, it is his responsibility to guide other bowlers in going about the business. "Not the leader (of the attack) but we are going through a transition so it's my responsibility to guide them. We discuss everything, about what I am thinking and what he (Rohit) thinks we should do. "I am a fast bowling fan, before being a cricketer. It is all I have ever enjoyed watching and doing. So I always enjoy watching fast bowlers, even on the other team. I look at the situation, I look at the wicket and then I look to solve the problem from there. I am not a one-trick pony, so I will look at different things and different options." Meanwhile, Jaiswal said he enjoyed playing in the match and the wonderful battles in it. “One of the best moments when you win for your country. We were focusing on our process, what we can do. Focus on our fielding and follow the process, and it went well.” “Day four pitch had cracks, there was seam (movement). It's hard playing the fourth innings. Absolutely different (in playing white ball from red ball), the field, and ball, mindset is different. I try to play my shots and have good intent. The way Bumrah bowled, it was incredible to watch. He bowled really well in the first innings as well. Wonderful team to be part of." Read the full article

Fun Lovin' Criminals & Rudeboy@JunkYard, 26.11.2023

Players to replace Kyle Jamieson in CSK squad for IPL 2023
Chennai Super Kings picked Kyle Jamieson, the New Zealand quick at the IPL 2023 mini auction for a price of 1 Cr. Considering CSK's woe at the previous IPL season, he was an attractive option for the side. He can bowl at the death and also contribute with the bat. His height, pace and ability to extract bounce from the surface could have made him a challenging proposition for the batsmen, especially in away games for CSK in conditions that suit fast bowling in pitches like Wankhade and Jaipur.
However, Jamieson's recurring back injury flared up during the ongoing test series vs England and is reported that the tall fast bowler will undergo a surgery in February. He will then be sidelined for at least 4 months and hence might miss the entirety of IPL 2023 season.
With two foreign pace bowling options in the rank: an experienced veteran Dwaine Pretorius from SA and a young Promising Srilankan pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana, CSK might require another fast bowling option to bolster their bowling stock, especially to add someone to bowl at the death.
What is CSK's strength and weakness
CSK's biggest strength is their skipper MS Dhoni, who has a wealth of experience in T20 cricket and having led the team to multiple IPL titles in the past. They also have a strong contingent of all-rounders in Ben Stokes, Ravi Jadeja and Moeen Ali.
Chepauk is a slow pitch that typically favors spinners, and the team has a good mix of spinners in Jadeja, Moeen Ali, M Satner and M Theekshana. They have built a core side who have a good understanding of the conditions in Chepauk.
However, CSK lacks a genuine pace bowler who can bowl at the death overs especially in away games, which can be crucial in T20 cricket. The inexperience in pace department is a concern with the likes of Mukesh Chowdhary, Simarjeet Singh and Matheesha Pathirana who may struggle to perform at the death overs under pressure.
In their last season, they had three death bowling specialist in Dwaine Pretorius, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Jordan. However, all three being similar pace off bowlers didn't help their cause as they were easily lined up and were unsuccessful. CSK released Chris Jordan and retained DJ Bravo as their bowling coach for the upcoming season.
Kyle Jamieson was picked in the mini-auction to add a variety to the bowling attack. His height, accuracy and ability to swing the bowl at pace would have given CSK an additional option especially in the away matches.
