daenerys targaryen is waaay better than me, because the moment the north would started throwing shade at my crew, I'm out.
you don't like them? whatever, not everyone has a good taste. but give them some respect.
boo-hoo poor sansa, how we're gonna feed them? I DON'T THINK THAT SHOULD BE YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM SINCE THE DEAD ARMY IS COMING. 1. you feed them, 2. you kick dead asses, 3. daenerys gives food from the rest of westeros to the north, in that order, is that simple. "what the dragons eat anyway?" mmm I don't know, maybe meat?? maybe not your problem?? 15 minutes and those dragons will be far away, they'll catch a snack and get back. btw that will give you enough time to inform like 47, 48 persons about secrects you should keep your mouth shut.
all sansa did was "we can't give daenerys the north, we don't need her", okay honey, give me better idea.
those people were that arrogant that they rather reject dany's help AND DIE instead of acknowledge they need her, her army and dragons and the fact she's rightful queen. interesting that sansa or none of the women living there said "hey, you know, send daenerys away, I'm gonna fight for winterfell", they just decided to show how much they despise her and hide in the crypts while dany was risking her life for theirs ungrateful asses.
I would be out in SECONDS. no, even more, instead of talking with jon "please, just bend the knee, man", I'd kill cersei, take the iron throne, make my army bigger, produce more weapon, keep my THREE dragons alive and get ready for dead army. you don't wanna bend the knee, you don't wanna be part of the seven kingdoms? fine, fight with night king's army alone, good luck with that. any person from common people is very welcome in my lands of sIX kIngDoMs under my protection, maybe i'd send them on some island or whatever but most of the northenders, men, their lords, ladies (SANSA AND LYANNA I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU), king etc can die at their own request.
"they didn't trust daenerys, they trusted jon" if they trusted him that much , why didn't they trust him that he made right decision bending the knee to daenerys? funny enough most of those people didn't know jon personally, the same as they didn't know daenerys. all they knew was what they heard about them and what in those stories were bad about dany? about merciful queen who uses her power to save common people, slaves? bunch of racist, xenophobic, biased assholes.
sansa wanted to leave the north since she was a little girl, now you want it back? fine, then fight for it. not expect that someone will do it for you and then make you a queen (what literally happened). knights of the vale fought on littlefinger's order, dothraki and unsullied for daenerys, north for NED'S STARK CHILDREN, not you personally sweetie, you didn't do a shit for them.
daenerys was sooo calm when everyone were praising arya and jon for what they did in the battle ("OMG JON RODE THE DRAGON", hmmm only bc dany let him to and dude barely could do it) I'D BE FURIOUS
"winterfell is your, your grace" ok sweetie, you know what, nevermind, I'm out. with that attitude you can stop night king by yourself, see yaaaa... or not

"Aegon foresaw the end of the world of men. ‘Tis to begin with a terrible winter gusting out of the distant north. And whatever dwells within will destroy the world of the living. Aegon saw absolute darkness riding on those winds. When this Great winter comes, Rhaenyra, all of Westeros must stand against it. And if the world of men is to survive a Targaryen must be seated on the Iron Throne. A king or queen strong enough to unite the realm against the cold and the dark. Aegon called his dream ‘The Song of Ice and Fire’."
The night king was supposed to be killed by Daenerys or Jon. The Prince(ss) who was Promised would bring the dawn and the new Targaryen age.
Arya killing the Night King opened up a multiverse, which caused everything to go to shit- efficiently destroying the Targaryen restoration and a united Westeros.
That's why the "losing" main characters regressed and became the person they didn't want to be.
Thanks D&D.

crazy rant about something that's been rotting my brain, but if D&D really wanted to cut the show short, why didn't they let the Night King win?
i am definitely not one for nihilistic, sad and everything bad endings, but letting the Night King win would have been a much more majestic way to end up the show, or to at least cut it short until someone else wanted to take over. i'll explain, because probably nobody is agreeing with me, but that's what Tumblr is for.
first of all, i have to say that i fucking pray all the time for George R. R. Martin not to choose something like this as an ending for the books, because i do not think it truly goes with the full message of the story, but let's get going.
as far as i know, the whole deal with the show's ending it's that the writers wanted to do other stuff, and therefore stopped caring, doing stupid choices and blaming it on “subverting expectations”. however, if they truly wanted that… why didn't they let the evil win?
of course, it would have been the most unexpected choice, but also much easier for their lazy asses: most of the plots could have been let unfinished (because, well, you don't have much time to complete your character arc when there's a fucking ice zombie apocalypse) and the writers would only have to make sure that certain things remained making sense until the end. and by those things i mean people not respawning suddenly (ehem, the dothrakis) or teleporting from place to place.
only a bit more of information about the Night King would have been needed: put revenge as the motion of all of it, or better, make it seem like it is at first and show us the truth behind it. show how the Night King once was a victim of that famous “wheel” Daenerys once talked about: the children of the forest and the first men fought, and so they condemned the Night King forever, so now he wants to destroy the wheel. imagine he thinks of himself as a savior too: peace beyond the grave, every single soul united in one big will without no other intention to interfere.
imagine we learn how his plan has evolved: at first, he only wanted everyone to suffer the same cruel fate he once experimented. but then we discover how he came to learn to see a future after death. one that it's better, one that it is more fair. one without wars, or hunger, or pain, or even seasons to interfere: nothing more than a peaceful, long night.
we learn this through Bran, and we resonate with his motives thanks to Jon, through whom we discover that there's nothing after life if it's not for the Night King's plan.
some of our heroes' faith wavers, and maybe we even see some men and women willingly switch their sides, ergo, kill themselves. fighting to death for the aftermath to be totally empty? why not choose a peaceful, everlasting afterlife?
however, we see the strong will of most of the characters to remain alive: the freedom of one's soul and all the things that it brings us, such as love itself. they realize all the many reasons there are to, well, decide not to “live” as a meaningless zombie forever.
but at the end, no matter how much they fight, the white walkers take over the whole place, killing everyone and growing in number. some lose their will and let themselves die, some fight to the end, but the Long Night comes and nothing but snow is left behind.
in my version of these events, only the dragons survive (maybe someone might think about some characters making it out, and it could be cool, but in my version all of them die). with ice symbolizing death and fire life, they are the only remaining beings full of it to escape the doom. Rhaegal, Viserion and Drogon arrive Essos, where people are confused about the radio silence from Westeros. after many years, some of Essos' most curious minds decide to explore what happened, possibly even sending grayscale infected as test drives, confused about why the dragons do not want to travel back to Westeros.
like that, the Song of Ice and Fire is told to the following generations: a story about a war between life and death where unfortunately the latter stressed on its inevitability. “Valar Morghulis” or “all men must die” it's repeated more than ever, gaining a new meaning when people popularize newer doctrines where it is key to accept death as part of live. at the end of the day, if they remain uncertain of the consequences of not embracing it, they can always visit the ruins of the forgotten continent of Westeros to see the undeath roaming the land.
well this was just a silly little idea, to be honest, so don't mind me too much. however, even this stupidity would have made more sense that the actual Game of Thrones ending. i feel it would have been cool to see sacrifices such as people deciding to “stay behind” to burn the bodies and ensure their loved ones didn't turn into white walkers, risking themselves to become “others” as well. it would have also been great to see the last images of Westeros be the Essosi people arriving to a frozen landscape. maybe the only survivors could have been some remaining children of the forest.
at the end, it all would have been more cathartic. no less controversial than the actual ending, but i feel like it would have made more sense? i don't know, i just hope you all like the idea, or at least that you find it interesting!

Snow. I destroy, I destroy, I destroy, sang Death, dressed and ready. –Anne Carson, excerpt of “Short Talk on Todnauberg”, for the London Review of Books
Just as Daenys foresaw the end of Valyria, Aegon foresaw the end of the world of men. ’Tis to begin with a terrible winter gusting out of the distant north. Aegon saw absolute darkness riding on those winds. And whatever dwells within will destroy the world of the living.

Just saw this quote from got showrunner as a reason why Jon Snow didn’t kill the night king.  “It had to be somebody with believable access to Valyrian steel,” showrunner David Benioff explained.”
Like bitch Jon Snow has a very famous sword called Longclaw since the first fucking season that is made of VALYRIAN steel.  My god.
He is also quoted as saying they didn’t do it because Jon is always saving the day.  And yeah.  He’s always saving the day against the white walkers and the Night King.  That is his whole story.  His whole arc.  To deny him this win over something so stupid astounds me.
They literally took everything Jon worked so hard for, gave it to other people, and still thought they ended the show well.  I just made a similar post about how the showrunners prioritized shocking the audience over giving a good comprehinsive story and this just proves it.

So according to Old Nan story of Night King, he was defeated by the King of Winter Brandon the Breaker. She also think that NK was Stark named Brandon and brother to the king of Winter. How come two brothers had same name? There is another Brandon Stark aka Bran the Builder who made the ice Wall. Did he knew about the Others?
I'd say there's reason to view any of Old Nan's tales as vague or metaphorical hints at the true story, as well as parallels to current events by the author. (Sort of like the story of the Winter Rose, which points to Lyanna and Rhaegar as well as to Baelish and Sansa.) They point us to themes or character constellations more than they do to solid facts.
The fact that so many Starks are named after the original Brandon hints at something that is general to all of House Stark.
Thousands and thousands of years ago, Brandon the Builder had raised Winterfell, and some said the Wall. Bran knew the story, but it had never been his favorite. Maybe one of the other Brandons had liked that story. Sometimes Nan would talk to him as if he were her Brandon, the baby she had nursed all those years ago, and sometimes she confused him with his uncle Brandon, who was killed by the Mad King before Bran was even born. She had lived so long, Mother had told him once, that all the Brandon Starks had become one person in her head. (AGOT, Bran IV)
Which also plays into this:
Their faces were stern and strong, and some of them had done terrible things, but they were Starks every one, and Bran knew all their tales. He had never feared the crypts; they were part of his home and who he was, and he had always known that one day he would lie here too. (ACOK, Bran VII)
Bran is the youngest in a long line of Brandons, and they all go back millenia (some soaked in cruelty and blood) to the mythical origin of House Stark, which is tied to Winterfell, the Wall and that ancient heart tree. And the ice threat.
There is a shrouded legacy that Bran will have to unravel in the name of all of them, and it contains every side of the conflict. An acceptance and a reckoning.

Everything Syrio Forel had ever taught her vanished in a heartbeat. In that instant of sudden terror, the only lesson Arya could remember was the one Jon Snow had given her, the very first.
She stuck him with the pointy end, driving the blade upward with a wild, hysterical strength.
When the spirit stepped out of the open tomb, pale white and moaning for blood, Sansa ran shrieking for the stairs, and Bran wrapped himself around Robb's leg, sobbing. Arya stood her ground and gave the spirit a punch. It was only Jon, covered with flour. "You stupid," she told him, "you scared the baby," but Jon and Robb just laughed and laughed, and pretty soon Bran and Arya were laughing too.
The memory made Arya smile, and after that the darkness held no more terrors for her.
- AGoT, Arya IV

I was watching scenes of the Night King and I forgot how cool he was.
And he dies in, like, ten seconds.
