You don’t give him the chance to get jealous.

How could he? When you don’t even realize how utterly dismissive of other possible “suitors” you are. Not giving anyone a second glance, eyes straying over to where he is if you two happen to be in the same room, reserving that sweet tone of your voice for when you call his name, shamelessly flashing that pretty ring he gave you whenever someone gets too close for comfort.

It’s not as if he wants to be jealous, far from it. It’s just baffling to think that, in all of your years together, he can’t remember any time he felt threatened by another. To make him burn with anger and freeze in fear over losing you is but a mere fantasy for those who admire you from afar, knowing that you will never like them back.

It hits him one day when you're all hanging out with your shared circle of friends and acquaintances, laughing at their antics and engaging in friendly banter with those closest to you. His friends, in particular, are well aware of his jealous streak, inquiring about the green-eyed beast they had seen in his younger years with past lovers. If the confused look on your face isn't enough indication, his own hesitation before answering gives them all the information they need. They're skeptical, of course. Him? Never getting jealous? What a joke.

"I've never seen him jealous," your earnest answer leaves them gobsmacked, now staring at him as if he's sprouted four more limbs. "he's not really the jealous type." That's a lie and he knows it, so why can't he think of any event that proves it? He frowns, glancing back at you as if you'd know any better than him. But the loving glint in your eyes when he meets your gaze it's like a sucker punch to the gut, heart throbbing at the sheer adoration making you glow.

Of course, he realizes. It's not that he's suddenly become the type of man who can see his love being flirted with without batting an eye or that he gives people the benefit of the doubt. It's that you have single-handedly helped him overcome his insecurities, healing his emotional wounds with your unbridled love and unwavering loyalty. Similarly, his commitment to you is just as strong, as the trust you've built the longer your relationship progressed further deepened your bond.

He's feeling breathless, in awe of you and hopelessly lovestruck, staring at you as if you're the only person in the room. Your shared friends jokingly gag at the sight, teasing remarks and cat-calls filling the room when he boldly leans in to kiss you, melting into you when your lips move against his own with practiced ease.

It's perfect, he can only sigh in bliss, once again realizing that he'd never find someone who loved him like you did. Someone he loved just as deeply, wholly, and desperately.

Letters Across the Water

Summary- Being separated by an ocean is hard enough already. But when letters take so long to arrive, it’s even hard. Especially when a letter doesn’t arrive in over two months, you begin to wonder if something happened.

Sei, We’re safe, stop worrying about me! It’s my job to worry about you and I will not argue with you through these damn letters! ...if we did that, I swear I would forget what the hell we were fighting about because these letters take what, a month to arrive?

Like I said, we’ve made it safely. There weren’t any issues during or after, things went smoothly. We were greeted by King Mizuki and his fiance like you had said. We walked through the village and their people are strange. Then again, your own people are strange. But, everyone is very welcoming and it feels like one massive family.

By the time you receive my letter, we would have already started to discussion about the alliance proposal you and your Father put together. I still don’t get why I was sent instead of either of you. I swear he did this on purpose. Either way, I’ll do my best to propose the idea to them. We both know you’re the talker between the two of us and I promise no fights. ...at least not physical.

How have you been while I’ve been away? Haven’t done anything stupid, right? I know what you’re thinking, “Of course I haven’t done anything stupid. That’s Daiki and Taiga’s jobs.” WELL I NEED TO MAKE SURE! I’m not there to make sure you brats don’t get into any trouble. I know you rolled your eyes at me, Seijurou.

I miss you. I can’t wait for this to be over and I can be back with you.

Shuuzo, I’m happy to hear you and the crew arrived safely. I will continue to worry about your safety until you return home. I do not care if you are in a kingdom we know everything about or a kingdom we know nothing about, I will always worry about you. To be honest, I would be surprised if you would even remember what we were arguing over about a month or two after the last letter. Again, I’m happy you’re safe and that your journey went well. I couldn’t help, but wonder how the waters were treating you. Yes, I understand this isn’t your first time sailing and that you have dealt with worst. But I can still worry about you.

I hope things are going well with King Mizuki, he can be a strange one. His people are lovely and I look forward to attending his wedding next summer. I hope the meetings have been going well and they’re listening to everything you have to say about the proposal. I know you are more of a fighter instead of a negotiator, you are after all my right hand man.

But please don’t get into any fights. I’m not in the mood for commanding the troops over a war you started with someone over there. Or heaven forbid, King Mizuki himself!

Shuuzo, behave yourself.

I’ve been well, thank you for asking. I’ve been busy since you left, so I haven’t done anything “stupid” as you mentioned. And I’m sure you will be surprised to hear that Daiki and Taiga haven’t done anything to give me a headache. ...That I’m aware of. I should probably check on them after I finish this letter.

I hope the meetings have been going well and that you are making good progress. I’m looking forward to hearing how the trip went and if they accepted the proposal.

But I’m most looking forward for your return. I hope you are doing well, while over there.

Sei, Things have been crazy here! In a good way, there’s so much to do in this kingdom and the people here are nuts! There’s never a dull moment in this kingdom, reminds me of home. And don’t worry, they’ve been treating me well. It’s like they’re treating me like family, I wasn’t expecting that. But hey, I’ll take it.

I am having a little difficulty with them agreeing to the proposal. It’s not like they want to say no, they want to say yes, but there’s a few things that they’re concerned about. But we’re trying to reassure them that once they have agreed to the alliance, you and your Father will arrange a meeting to further discuss the agreements. King Mizuki is a strange one and I thought he would agree to the proposal, because he seemed like a peaceful guy. But I was wrong. I know kings will fight to make sure their people are well taken care of and this guy is more than willing to fight.

Well actually, some of his men are willing to fight (and two of them want to kill each other, it’s insane)! King Mizuki would rather discuss things and it’s fucking tiring! I think there were about five times or more that I almost fell asleep because he wouldn’t stop dragging his point out!

HE’S WORSE THAN MIDORIMA! AND THAT’S SAYING SOMETHING!

How have things been going? I know it’s been a while since my first letter. Things got so busy afterwards, that I didn’t have time to sit down and write to you. I think it’s been over a month? Maybe two? I don’t know at this point, I’ve lost track of time.

All I know, I’ve been far too gone from you. I miss you like crazy.

Hopefully we can end this soon so I can come back to you.

Shuuzo, I’m glad to hear that you are being treated well, that’s what I wanted to hear. I’m also glad that their kingdom reminds you of home, I hope that doesn’t increase your homesickness. It’s wonderful to hear that they’re treating you as if you were from their kingdom. I’m looking forward to hearing the stories you have.

And I can image, you have a lot.

The hardest part about a proposal is getting the other party to agree and believe me, I have had my fair share of tough meetings. But I will agree, the ones that drag on and on are very tiring and draining. And I may have snuck in a few naps afterward those meetings. But I expect nothing less of King Mizuki, he is someone that would much rather have peace than war.

I also know who you are talking about. Say hello to Kimishita and Ooshiba for me, I hope they are doing well.

Nothing much has changed since my last letter. I did attend a few balls and though I enjoyed them, I did miss you by my side. And your snarky comments. I hope you’ll be back in time for the next ball, the last one was very interesting.

Also, I’m sure you’ll be surprised to hear (or not) that Tatsuya and Atsushi have entered a courtship. Atsushi just came up to me one day and said that Tatsuya agreed to the courtship. Though I know there’s more to it and I’m sure you’ll ask Tatsuya more about it.

Everyone is happy with their loved one and it makes me miss you even more. I know our reunion will be worth it once you return, but that still doesn’t make me stop wishing you were home now.

Akashi stared at the paper in front of him, wondering what word to put down. His letter was going to be short and straight to the point.

Why hadn’t he heard from his beloved?

He was worried. Nijimura hadn’t responded to his last letter in nearly two months. Akashi wished there was a much better way to communicate with other kingdoms. Letters just took too long and it made the prince anxious at times like this. The thought of not knowing scared him.

Did Nijimura get sick?

Did he get hurt?

Or...worse?

So many questions ran through Akashi’s mind as he stared down at the paper below him. What to say, what to say? He sighed and rubbed his temples, he could feel a headache coming, that he wished didn’t make its appearance at a time like this.

“Oi! Akashi!” Came a voice filled with urgency, alarming the prince. Akashi turned around to see Kagami entering the study room.

“The ship has returned! Nijimura and the others have returned!” Kagami reported.

….

What? Nijimura was back? But he never mentioned anything about returning anytime soon in…in the letter that was never sent. Was this because there was no letter sent? Because Nijimura was on the way back? He needed to find out.

Without a word, Akashi snapped out of his thoughts and gave a nod.

“Have they arrived at the docks yet?” The prince asked, staying calm as possible. In reality, he wanted to run past the knight and head towards the docks. Akashi was done being separated from Nijimura for how long now?

Far too long.

“They’re expected to arrive at the docks at any second.” Kagami responded, the prince returning the nod as he stood up from his chair.

“Very well. I will go and wait for them. Shuuzo and I have been separated for far too long.” Akaashi explained as he walked passed the knight.

“Hey uh...why was Nijimura gone for so long? What was he doing? I know he had to propose an alliance to another kingdom, but six months?”

Akashi stopped and looked back over his shoulder. “Yes, he was proposing an alliance, but he was also taking in what type of kingdom they are. If King Mizuki accepted the alliance, our strengths will grow and we will be visiting that kingdom often. Also, it takes a month to get to their kingdom and back. So he was there for four months only. Now if you excuse me, I have someone to greet at the docks.”

“Finally, solid ground!” Nijimura exclaimed, stretching as he walked off the ship after a long journey home.

Too long for his liking.

How nice (and strange) it was to be back on solid ground, how he’d missed it! But what he missed the most was the familiar fish market that stood in front of the docks. Fishermen selling their catches of the day and trying to get people to buy them. Even six months later, everything still looked the same. Even that one weird looking bird with the black markings on its face, was still chilling by the water.

The site of the castle in view, so close, but yet so far still! He couldn’t wait until he was back in his own bed and holding-

“Shuuzo!” A familiar voice called out, making the knight look over to see who was calling out to him. A smile crossed his face when he saw the familiar and missed sight of red hair rushing towards him.

“Sei!” He called out, rushing up to meet Akashi half way.

They did and oh how tight they held each other close, embracing each other after six months away. It felt like home, a feeling the two of them had longed for.

“Welcome home.” Akashi whispered, just loud enough for Nijimura to hear. Nijimura chuckled and nuzzled his cheek against Akashi’s.

“Thank you, I’m glad to be home, finally.” As much as King Mizuki and his people had made it feel like he’d been at home, it just hadn’t been home. But finally being home made him relax and just so happy.

“Did your letter get lost? I was worried about you these past few months!” Akashi asked after a few minutes, cupping Nijimura’s cheeks.

“Ha? It never got to you? Great, must have gotten lost.”

Ah, figures.

Akashi let a sigh of relief out and smiled.

“Just as long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters. Come, you must be exhausted.” The prince said, starting to lead Nijimura towards the castle.

“You have no idea. Oh and they accepted the proposal.”

“You can tell me about that later, but now, let’s get you back so you can rest.”

“I have nothing against that idea.” The knight chuckled, he was ready to fall into his own bed and actually get a good night sleep.

Or a few days.

Hi Takao anon, this was hard for me because “difficult s/o” is a very ambiguous way to put it… so I’m sorry if the discussion is ambiguous as well, and the rank is really not solid.

This ranking was made based on, I think, each character’s perseverance level. Kise (along with Akashi and Imayoshi above him) is at the bottom of the list since I feel that it’s really hard for him even when he loves his s/o a lot. With Kise I imagine him wanting the s/o to be independent and be able to sort out things themselves instead of clinging onto him, he gets tired of it real fast.

Kiyoshi and Takao both have positivity, but Kiyoshi has the most patience to go through it. I think Nijimura does has patience and positivity, but less compared to Takao and Kiyoshi. I initially wanted to put Mayuzumi at the bottom, but I didn’t at the end. I feel that he would acknowledge the fact that he himself is somewhat difficult as well, and is willing to go through the struggle since the s/o has also gone through it for him.

Nijimura breaking up with s/o because he's too stressed from juggling his studies and work, taking care of his father then being the male authority figure in the family, and thus he feels it's unfair for s/o that she only gets what very little time he could barely manage to spare for her and their relationship is given least priority. But s/o assures him she won't leave his side. Happy ending? :-))

Hello! Sorry it’s taking longer to update everyone. I have a training camp this week for eight hours a day and it’s physically and mentally exhausting. I also fractured my thumb. I still have a few more requests and if you guys will please be patient with me, I promise to answer them as soon as I can. I could probably finish them sooner if I made them a bit shorter but I’d rather take more time and make sure that the scenarios I post are to the best of my abilities rather than rushing it. Now, enough of my rants. Your scenario, anon. I hope you like it!

“I’m breaking up with you.”

His voice was cold and his eyes, emotionless. Far from the gentle and sweet voice accompanied with warm and loving eyes you’re used to.

“Why? I thought everything was working out,” you barely choke out. You were truly happy with Nijimura. “Look at me, Name. It’s not. I’m sorry,” he says, voice devoid of emotion. His gaze slightly wavers, as he then proceeds to turn around and walk away.

Tears rapidly fall out of your eyes, your vision trained on the blurry figure who walked out of your life, your shattered heart in his hands. You barely remember walking home. When you wake up the next morning, you almost think what happened yesterday was an awful dream. However, the wet stains on your pillow and your puffy eyes were proof that the occurrence yesterday was indeed reality. Almost robotically finishing your morning routine, you walk to school recalling all your moments with Nijimura. Was it anything you did? Was he unhappy all this time? No, he really seemed to be happy as well…Then why did he break up with me? Determined to find out what caused Nijimura’s behavior, you quickly run to class, waiting for lunch.

Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. The bell rings and you rush to the rooftops. You and Nijimura used to eat lunch at the rooftops. “The only place where the brats aren’t. I swear one day I’ll go crazy because of them,” you remember him saying. Though you knew the truth, he truly cares for the Generation of Miracles and hopes that they grow and develop into even more talented players.

Lost in your thoughts, you end up walking into the door. The noise startles Nijimura and he goes to find out what happens. What he doesn’t expect to see however, is you. On the floor. Rubbing your head in pain. Swearing you grab your head in pain as you feel a little dizzy. A slight bump indicates the beginning of a bruise. Slowly getting up, you see black spots in your vision. You think to yourself, “No! I can’t pass out now! I have to…find…” You feel yourself falling before passing out. In your unconscious state, you didn’t realize a familiar set of arms wrap around your waist, catching you just in time before you fall onto the hard, concrete floor.

A yawn escapes your mouth as you wake up, oblivious to your situation and surroundings. Instantly, everything hits you - the breakup, the search, the door - you vaguely remembering someone catching you while you were passing out. A familiar voice interrupts your thoughts, “Awake I see. How are you holding up?” You gasp, “Shuuzo! What are you doing here,“ “Well Name-chan I was the one that made sure you didn’t break your head open on the floor,” he bitterly chuckles. An awkward silence fills the room as neither of you are sure on what to say.

“Why did you break up with me,” you ask. “I just want a reason. Did I do something to upset you? Were you not happy with me? Do you like someone else? What,” you question, numerous possible reasons spewing out of your mouth, each reason more upsetting than the last. “Did you get bored of me?” You ask the question that’s been on your mind. Your timid voice and question absolutely broke Nijimura’s heart.

“No! What are you talking about? I loved being with you. I love you. The times we had together were some of the best times of my life,” he exclaims in surprise.

“Then why,” you choke out. All the tears you’ve been holding in, spill out. Your body shudders as you quietly sob, slowly releasing all the sadness that you’ve kept inside.

“It wasn’t fair to you,” he quietly murmurs. “What?” you ask. Sighing, Nijimura runs a hand through his hair, not knowing exactly what to say other than the painful truth. “It’s not fair to you,” he repeats. “I have to keep up my grades and work in order to take care of my father. His sickness has been getting worse lately, and I’ve been working more in order to help pay for his bills which means I have to make some more time to study. I’ve been prioritizing all of these over us and our relationship. It’s not fair that the only time we spend together is the little time I occasionally get. You deserve much better. A relationship should be where both sides give, not just one.”

“It’s isn’t fair,” you whisper. Raising your voice you speak clearly, “It isn’t fair you jerk!” Nijimura looks down in shame. But you ignore him and continue, “How could go through all that and not tell me. All the time together was what little time you had left. You should’ve used that as a break or a resting period. How could you ignore your health like that? Why didn’t you tell me? We could’ve talked over it and I could’ve helped you, but no you bottle it all in and deal with all the pain yourself. How in the world is that fair!” Taking a deep breath, you try to calm yourself down. A flurry of emotions whirl through you. Happiness since he still loves you, hurt that he kept all his problems to himself, anger that he’s dealing with all of this.

Nijimura looks at you in shock. “Wait, you’re mad because I didn’t tell you about this? Not because I prioritized everything over our relationship?” Looking at him as if he grew another head you reply, “What are you talking about? Of course your family is important. Why would I be mad? I thought we knew other better than that Shuuzo!” Puzzled and a little relieved at your answer, he wraps you in a tight hug. “Can we start over Name? I really didn’t want to let you go and I’m so sorry,” Nijimura mumbles into your hair. Feeling relieved, you return his embrace murmuring six words into his chest.

I will never leave your side.

Unposted Draft - Angel Town

I’m stuck today and I just really like Furihata’s interaction with Nijimura :D though this will never make it to my Angel Town story as I decided to tell the story from Akashis’s point of view instead of from Furihata’s. So I guess no harm in just posting it!

Furihata let his mind wander as the last customer grabbed the drink and bid him goodbye, saying “Thanks, Suga,” and disappeared towards the rest of his day that he had to face. It stung a little, but Furihata believed it comes from a good heart, so he accepted their greetings like he accepted the fact that he has to go through 24 hours a day.

His hand mindlessly grabbed the thick car brochure that somebody left on the table a few days ago, reading its content.

“Why the heck is she still calling you Suga?”

A voice was starting Furihata, taking his attention away from the beautifully-crafted copywriting on the car brochure he is currently reading behind the counter. The man who spoke was sitting in one of the few chairs in the shop, making himself at home. His black hair and his sleeveless cyan shirt damp from sweat. Clearly, he just had his morning run.

“Shuuzo!” Furihata exclaimed. “How long have you been in here?”

“Since that last customer you served,” the man said, the corner of his lips tugged a little, looking amused. It’s Nijimura Shuuzo, Furihata’s old roommate and now good friend. A guy who apparently went all the way to this secluded coffee shop in the furthest corner of Sunset Drive, four blocks away from where he lived and two blocks away from his usual morning run route.

“You’ve been creeping in on me since then? Wow.”

“Kinda want to see how long until you notice that I’m here. It’s been ten minutes, if you’re curious. You’re really fixated in that brochure. Are you considering buying a car? Or is it just you haven’t kicked the habit of reading any paper with English words written on ‘em?” he asked, eyes locked on the car brochure that Furihata read just a while ago.

“What? Oh! No, God, no! Don’t be ridiculous. Could sell my soul and still wouldn’t be able to afford any of this. It’s just… I’m… Somebody left it and... yeah, okay, you’re right. Still haven’t kicked the habit.”

Nijimura scowled, which is usually a normal occurrence because he’s scowling 80% of the time. But today, he is scowling extra hard, like Furihata just blurted out rocket science out of nowhere. “I don’t know why you’re still doing that. You’ve been here for years. You can read English Classics without opening a dictionary too much. Your english is almost perfect. Better than Teppei, at least. And he even attends language class.”

The brown-haired boy only smiled upon hearing Nijimura’s compliment. “Would you like to order anything, sir?” he asked. “We have shaved iced latte with cat-shaped foam for today’s special. Please don’t order it. The foam is such a pain in the ass to make.”

Nijimura laughed a little. “Fine, I won’t bother the busy barista today,” he said. “Ice chocolate, please. With a little bit of milk, less ice, and oh, don’t forget to come to my party tomorrow,” he continued, as if the last part is not a different thing entirely.

“What’s the occasion?” he asked, not even glancing towards the older man as he made his order.

“Part business, part reunion,” he answered. “An old kouhai from Junior High is in the country, was gonna hang out with him casually until my old geezer learned who the man is. He insisted on making a proper get-together that will impress him without making it look too obvious. So yeah, I thought a reunion would have a nice ring to it.”

Furihata hesitated for a moment. Shuuzo always liked dragging him into his circle, including him in even the tiniest bit of his social life. Furihata always thought that it would stop after Nijimura is dating Kiyoshi, but apparently, he was wrong. Nijimura always inquired him to join them, even on their dates.

“Don’t make that face, Kouki. it’s not a full-on party. Just close friends. So far it’s just Taiga and Tetsu, Tatsuya, and Teppei. You’re in right? It’s gonna be super fun, I swear.”

“I don’t exactly have a free day tomorrow, though,” he offered as he pushed the tumbler to Nijimura’s side of the table. “Translation work.”

“When is the deadline?”

Furihata shrugged. “Wednesday next week. But on Monday I’m working a double shift and on Tuesday I took a night shift at the gas station.”

Nijimura thought about it a little. “Bring your homework, then.” he said. “I promise that if you want to be left alone, you’ll get that. But you definitely need to join. Because you know what? At this party, no English allowed.”

Nijimura smirked on the last part, definitely seeing how Furihata perked up. He knew so damn well that Furihata could not resist a party where he could speak Japanese. Because though Furihata’s English is getting better to the point that it’s almost flawless, he could never pass up an opportunity to speak in his Mother Language. Especially after two years of living in America.

“Did you tell Taiga that?” Furihata laughed. “He would not be happy.”

“Taiga could bail for all I care,” Nijimura laughed as he grabbed his tumbler, muttering a thank you. “ I’ll pick you up tomorrow. Your shift ended at the usual time, right?”

Furihata only nodded, and just like that, Nijimura bid his goodbye.
