The Pamir: A shot from the mizzen mast ahead towards the main and the fore. 2 men are working at the end of the main sail yardarm - leaning over and pushing the footropes back.  2 others are on the main topsail yard. Furthermore 5-6 crew are at it on the  foresail port yardarm. One could imagine maintainance was the issue here on such a lovely day.

The famous Flying P ship  of the German shipping company F. Laeisz “Pamir” moored up somewhere, perhaps Vancouver.

The ship was a 4-masted steel barque, built  by Blohm & Voss shipyards in Hamburg, launched on 29 July 1905 … she was the last commercial sailing ship to round Cape Horn (1949). 

On 21 September 1957, she was caught in Hurricane Carrieand sank off the Azores, with only six survivors rescued after an extensive search.

Tien Shan, Issyk-Kul, Pamir, Lenin Peak … all these names from the school curriculum have long been forgotten … it would seem, but no. As soon as we landed in Kyrgyzstan and saw huge 7-thousanders, the memory is helpful (thank God, it works again!) I slipped the information. (Translated)
