In the Darkhorse comic series The Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves is an explorer, eccentric billionaire, and interdimensional being. Colm Feore portrayed this character on the Netflix adaptation of the same name. “The Monocle,” Reginald adopted seven children with superhuman abilities and trained them under the roof of Umbrella Academy to become a superhero. BG: The Reader is Number Eight. It follows how you fit into the structure of Season 1 and the family dynamic of the siblings.

This part follows y/n blowing off some steam with Diego being a supportive brother.

You don’t have to read every single part as each focuses on the reader’s relationship with each of her sibings.

A/n: sorry if this took long to update, I lost the master copy of the fic document- well technically, I was and am typing this on an auto-save document but it had glich somehow and when I searched and open the file it was only the first 2 parts. Your blood was boiling.

How dare Luther, your own brother accuse you of killing your own father.

Sure, your childhood wasn’t exactly the healthiest and emotionally suitable for a child but in a weird way your father had shape and trained the 7 of you to be at least somewhat in control of your powers.

Raising superpowered children is no small task.

Lost in your thoughts, you hadn’t realized how far from the academy you had walked.

You stared at the city Harborview, imaging how your life would be different if you hadn’t had these powers.

Peace. That’s what you think you would have. A sense of peace, living a normal daily life- get up, go to work, hang out with friends, sleep in a nice cosy apartment and repeat. No powers.

The final words of Sir Reginald replays in your mind.

‘The end is near, get the others ……and save…..the…..tttiiiimmm’

The end is near, get the others and save the tim- whatever or whoever tim is.

You assumed that it meant his time was up and had wanted the family back together. You had done just that but what had that got you? Indictment for one. A family reunion consisting of 5 emotionally incompetent adults and one trapped in a kid’s body.

Leaning across the railing you shouted. ‘Cosplaying as batman at aged 6 was cute but as a grown ass adult lurking in the shadows is definitely a red flag!’

A chuckle sounded from the corner. ‘Noted m’mam. Will not do it again’ said a deep voice.

To an untrained ear, no sounds of footsteps could be heard.

You, however can as do your siblings. All of who can also identify who is coming based on the sound- each ever have a slight variation, a unique touch.

Luther has the heaviest, loudest footsteps out of everyone.

Allison- quiet and delicate.

Diego has a sense of purpose in his walk- no doubt like the secret agent and superheroes he had always wanted to be.

Klaus is a bit unpredictable; it is either too fast and energetic or soft and slow pace.

Five. He cheats, mostly blipping in and out of places. But if need be, he usually takes leaps or huge steps, always ready to teleport out of any situation in midstep.

Ben. The master of stealth. He always manages to take the least steps, the most effective route between hiding points.

Vanya though without training is actually very good. At times you wouldn’t even notice her near as proven in her countless times secretly watching the rest of you training.

‘I doubt that.’ Turning to face the new arrival. ‘You are the literally embodiment of Vigilante Hero Complex.’

The city lights illuminating his face.

‘Ah! Case in point!’ You pointed at his outfit. ‘You’re even wearing a spandex suit, Diego!’

Diego shook his head, brushing off your teasing aside. He was happy to at least help bring a smile onto your face- even if it was at his expense.

‘How you feeling?’ Even though you all were the same age, Diego can’t deny that the numbering hadn’t had an older sibling protectiveness to come over him- especially when Luther was being a total dick. If only he was in charge, he thought.

‘Better… better now that you’re here.’ You admitted, bothering your brother never gets old. ‘Thanks by the way-for the cheer up.’

You both stayed in comfortable silence it was not until 20 mins later did Diego break it by apologising.

‘Sorry for what?’

He didn’t reply instead he lifted something out of his pocket. It shone against the deep blue waves.

You gasped. ‘Dad’s monocle.’

‘I know Luther believes you took it.’ He let out an exasperated sigh. ‘I’m sorry. I should’ve have confessed instead you took blame for me….’

Wrapping his fist around it he continued, voice getting harsher. ‘I …I just couldn’t you know? After all he did to us? How he treated us? We were just kids!’

He clutched it tighter shattering the glass. ‘He was gone. This was the most valuable things he had- never let it out of his sight….so I thought that this….that by taking this, it would be the closest thing in ever hurting him.’

‘Oh Diego…’ You didn’t know how to comfort someone who is going through the same scenario, a same situation that you yourself need help on. ‘Dad is gone and…yes he wasn’t the most caring father. But the past is in the past, the only thing we can do now to move forward. Don’t let that define us. Strive to do better.’

‘We tried that once remember? And where did it get us?’ He countered.

‘Better than if we were to have stayed.’ You rebutted. ‘C’mon Diegs. Think about mom. Think about how she constantly reminds us to put our best foot forward, no matter what life throws at us..’

Diego’s face softens, he was always a momma’s boy.

Closing his eyes, he mutters an okay. Then he tosses the bloody cracked monocle into the water. ‘Now, why don’t we go stuff our faces full of donuts.’ You offered. ‘I can handle your typical brooding self but the 2 of us sulking? No can do, what we need is to eat our feelings.’

‘Giddy’s it is.’ Replied Diego, offering you his arm.

‘So I assume you parked 2 blocks from here?’

His eyes went wide. ‘How’d you-‘

‘PPPPlease!’ Rolling your eyes. ‘I might have subconsciously wander to this part of town, but I was conscious about a car not so subtly tailing me for 6 blocks.’

‘So you knew I was watching you from the very beginning.’

‘YUPPPP’ Popping the p. ‘At first I wasn’t sure who- nice car by the way, new?

‘A month ago.’

‘Anyway is wasn’t until you started following on foot til I knew.’

Elaborating when you saw his confused look. ‘You walk as if you’re the protagonist in an action film.’

‘I do not!’ He said defensively.

‘DO too!- Thanks.’ Settling down onto the passenger seat as Diego closed the door.

The debate lasted until you reach Giddy’s or so what was left of the store.

Together ~Diego Hargreeves Imagine~

Summary: You join the Umbrella Academy after both of your parents pass away. Now you are known as number 8 due to your witch like powers. When you join, you never expect to like a certain boy who has great knife skills.

Author’s Note: I got my Umbrella Academy jacket for my cosplay and I’m so happy.

You didn’t consider yourself as part of the family. You weren’t raised with them since you were all born. In fact, you felt like you were a replacement after Ben passed away. It was horrible to feel like you were a replacement for their brother.

“Children. I want you all to welcome number eight,” Reginald announced as you stood next to him in front of seven people. Five were kids your age, one was a chimpanzee, and a beautiful blonde lady.

“She will be part of our missions. Grace, please show her to her room,” Reginald said.

“Come with me darlin,” the blonde lady said.

Grace showed you to your room which was next to a girl named Vanya. Luckily, she was the first one to talk to you.

“Hi. I’m Vanya. Or number seven as dad like to say,” Vanya introduced herself.

“I’m Y/n. It’s nice to meet you Vanya.”

“What can you do? Power wise at least?”

“I have telekinesis, hex bolts, and flight,” you tell her.

“Can I see?”

“Sure.”

You looked over and lifted your bed a little. Your hands glowed purple as it rose up a little. Vanya was impressed at what you could do. You put the bed down before levitating yourself. You put yourself back down before smiling at Vanya.

“Is this our new sister?” You and Vanya looked over at the side to see another girl your age, standing by the side.

“I don’t really think I’m your sister. I wasn’t raised with you,” you tell her.

“Well either way. I think you’re my sister now,” she smiled.

After the girls left your room, you heard a knock on your door. You walked over to see one of the boys standing there.

“H-Hi,” he said nervously.

“Hi.”

“I-I-I’m Diego.”

“I’m Y/n.”

“I j-j-just want-wanted to say w-welcome,” Diego stuttered.

“Thank you Diego,” you smile.

“I sh-sh-should let you, un-unpack.”

“Oh okay. Thanks. I hope we can talk a little bit longer later.”

“We w-will.”

You smiled at him before closing your door to hide your blushing. On the other side, Diego facepalmed himself. He embarrassed himself in front of you and it was worst that he stuttered.

“Stupid. Stupid. Stupid,” Diego said.

“Diego. We do not use that kind of negativity,” Grace warned him as she passed by.

“Sorry mom.”

It took a while to warm up to everyone but you eventually did. However, once you did, there was one particular boy you started to like. And that was Diego.

At first you weren’t sure if you should even like him. Yet again, you never met anyone out of the family unless it was for a mission. It felt wrong but you really did like Diego.

“Y/n, can I talk to you?” Diego asked.

“Sure. What is it?” You asked.

“I need to tell you something and I don’t know how to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“I really like you, Y/n. Ever since you came and joined us, I have grown to like you more than a sister,” Diego tells you.

“Diego-”

“If you don’t feel the same way, I understand. I just needed you to tell you.”

“Diego, I like you too. But if we’re going to like each other, you can’t see me or think of me as a sister. I don’t even consider myself a sister to your guys,” you tell him.

“Done.”

“But I don’t think we can be with each other. Mr. Hargreeves will be furious. He’ll call it a distraction,” you tell him.

“How about we secretly date? Then when we’re old enough, we can leave this place together?” Diego offered.

“Will that work?”

“I’m willing to try if you are.”

“I am,” you smile.

It was thrilling to you when you and Diego started to date secretly. Whenever he could, Diego would sneak into your room to give you kisses. You sneaked into Diego’s room sometimes to cuddle whenever you could.

When you two left the Umbrella Academy, it was like you two were on a honeymoon. Diego finally got to give you the affection that he wanted to give you when you both were at the academy.

“Y/n, we have to get back to the academy,” Diego tells you as he came back to your shared apartment.

“What? Why?”

“Dad died.”

“Your dad died,” you corrected.

“We have to go back,” Diego said.

“Alright.”

“Come on.”

You weren’t sad for Reginald’s death. He wasn’t your father. Then Diego’s other brother, Five, came back from wherever he accidentally disappeared to.

“So you’re Y/n? Diego’s girlfriend who he ran off with?” Five said to you.

“You’re Five. I’ve heard about you.”

“Same here. At least from Vanya’s book.”

“What can I help you with today?” You asked him.

“Well, in Vanya’s book, she mentioned that you have telekinesis, hex bolts, and flight.”

“Yes?”

“I know this may sound weird but I actually need your help.”

“With what?”

“I think your powers can help stop the apocalypse that’s about to happen,” Five tells you.

“What apocalypse?”

“The apocalypse that’s going to come soon. Now if you can convince Diego to not worry about you as you help me, that would be great,” Five tells you.

“Fine.”

You walked up to Diego who was in his old room. He looked around to see all the old things that lied around that he left behind.

“Diego?” He quickly looked over at you as you stood by his door.

“Yeah. What is it?” Diego asked you.

“I wanted to let you know that I have to help out your brother with something.”

“Which one?”

“Five.”

“Whatever he says, he’s probably bluffing.”

“I don’t think he is. Look, you trust me right?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then trust me on this. Look, if it makes you feel better, I will contact you once in a while.”

“Make it once every two hours,” Diego tells you. You nodded at him before giving him a kiss on the lips.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“Be careful okay?”

“I will. And you need to be careful too. You tend to get stubborn sometimes,” you tell him.

“I do not.”

“Yes you do.”

Diego shook his head before giving you a hug and another kiss on the head.

“I can’t lose you.”

“I know. I can’t lose you either.”

“Just come back to me. Okay?”

“Yes, sir.”

Oh, one of my kids’ powers is tied to their emotions? How about I just brainwash them to forget their powers, lock them up in a room by themselves, and mercilessly shatter their self-worth. Nothing wrong could happen at all 🙃

Oh, another died? Let’s Frankenstein them and then ship out to the moon for some useless mission AND, to top it all up, I’ll just never read or look at any of the documents that they sent to me.🙃

Oh, another can see the dead? Let’s just lock them up in cemeteries and try to scare them straight! And when they end up as an addict because they can’t deal with horror that is seeing dead people, I’ll just treat them like shit and mock ‘em!!🙃

The Umbrella Academy, true to its title, has numerous references to umbrellas in its episodes, but a big question remains: why did Reginald Hargreeves choose umbrellas for the academy’s symbol? The superhero genre continues to be dominated by big, connected universes, but these have also made way for other, lesser-known, and sometimes darker superhero stories, as is the case of The Umbrella Academy, a comic book series created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The Umbrella Academy was adapted into a TV series and released on Netflix in February 2019, quickly becoming one of the platform’s biggest hits.

The Umbrella Academy is all about the Hargreeves, seven adopted kids who along with other 36 babies around the world were born on the same day and under the same circumstances. This event caught the attention of scientist and billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), who set out to adopt as many of those babies as he could but only got seven. As the kids developed superpowers, he trained them and formed the team “The Umbrella Academy”, but unfortunately, Reginald wasn’t a good father, and so the kids parted ways as years passed and didn’t talk to each other. The Hargreeves reunited years later for Reginald’s funeral and had to team up to stop the apocalypse, which turned out to be triggered by their seemingly powerless sibling, Vanya (Elliot Page). There are still many mysteries around the Umbrella Academy and Reginald, and even though season 1 showed a key moment of their shared history, there’s still a big question around the team and its peculiar symbol.

At the beginning of the finale of The Umbrella Academy season 1, viewers are taken many years back to follow a younger Reginald as he left his home planet and arrived at the United States, where he found an old umbrella manufacturer building that was on sale. Reginald bought it and made a fortune out of it, and years later adopted the umbrella as the symbol for his team of superpowered children. It’s generally assumed that he chose umbrellas because of the building, but is there a deeper meaning to them in connection to the team and its purpose?

Fans of The Umbrella Academy have found different possible explanations to why Reginald chose umbrellas as the symbol for his team of exceptional children, of which some connect to what Reginald has said in the series and others give more of a viewer interpretation of it. Umbrellas could symbolize the team’s purpose, which is to protect the world from a variety of threats, very much like umbrellas protect from the rain, but the metaphorical umbrella can’t hold itself without its metal rods, which is what the Hargreeves represent (this connecting to Reginald’s line “you’re stronger together than you are alone”). Others add that umbrellas protecting from the storm is like what the Hargreeves do for the public, but umbrellas also keep from the sun, which could be what Reginald did to the team by “robbing them of a normal childhood”. Other viewers see each of the Hargreeves representing an umbrella, explaining that they are the only way to protect from the rain but they also have weaknesses (like the wind, for example), very much like each member of the team.

The team serving as the umbrella of the world, protecting them from a variety of threats including the apocalypse itself, connects to the meaning of the Umbrella Academy’s motto, “Ut Malum Pluvia”, which translates as “when evil rains”. This is actually the meaning behind the umbrella symbol in the comics, but as Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has made a lot of changes already, it wouldn’t be surprising if it gives a whole new meaning to the symbol of the umbrella. As the series continues to explore the backstories of Reginald and the team, fans hope many mysteries will be solved soon, and so it remains to be seen what else the TV show will change from the comics.

Temple of Geek hosted an Umbrella Academy Cosplay meetup at Los Angels Comic Con. The turnout was incredible! There were the Hargreeves siblings 1 thru 7, Grace, Reginald, Leonard, Hazel and Chacha, and even Kenny! Someone even brought soundtrack music to make it feel like a family party! The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix television series developed by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater. It is an adaptation of the comic book series, created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics.

Los Angeles Comic Con (L.A. Comic Con) is a comic book and pop culture convention held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This year the special guests included Gerard Way, co-creator of Umbrella Academy.
