I actually liked Marvus as a character but his route sucked. Why would they approve this? It's embarrassing. Hussie did it all the time in Homestuck, inserting his fetishes, an example was the multiple times he made a girl force herself onto someone else. It ruined characters, particularly with drunk Rose and Aranea, Jane was being mind controlled to harass Jake, and trickster Roxy forcefully made out with Dirk. Vriska and Snowman also come to mind. It happened so often, god damn dude could you make your femdom thing anymore obvious? Can the writers pleeeeaase learn to keep their fetishes somewhere else? Pleeeasee?? It interferes with the story in the worst ways.

If it's to highlight or show how bad certain actions can go too far, most of the fandom didn't pick up on or it gets interpret it as something else. Like whatever Vriska does is seen as girlboss. Her horrible actions would be fine if we keep in mind she is a troll that's an alien race that has them do awful things 24/7, but if apply for human standards, it would be frowned upon. Next would be ones people forget because either it has been a long time since anybody (re)reads the series or nobody thought too deep about it. Like how Mindfang basically waited 100+ for The Summoner to hatch and grow up before she could fuck him. Since ceruleanbloods live long, the age gap between them would be larger than 99 years. Same Mindfang forced the Dolorosa to make out with her and refers to her as a slave.

Then there's ones who victim blame people like Jade who got mind controlled by the Condesce. They accuse Jade of being the bitch and acting rude towards Dave. They forget the bigger bad that's doing the mind control. People see Roxhy's drinking habits as a quirk since Mom Lalonde also drinks, but they forget the reason Mom Lalonde was alcoholic was because she knew the world was going to end and was using drinks to drown her sorrows. Roxy does the same to hide her loneliness and desperation for love. Her desperation also gets a pass because she is a girl. If it was someone like Eridan, they will hate him. I don't mind too much for questionable stuff like this get put into it. But the last thing I wanna hear is fandom acting like puritans to say these same heavy topics can't be said in other mediums despite said subjects are also shown in the things they love. They bitch if mind control happens in anime, but gives Vriska a pass? Hypocrites and double standards is what they all are.

The Good, The Bad, and The Alternative: a homestuck fanfic. Confessions of a Wizard, chapter 2, an excerpt:

She breathed in, ensuring the components of the ritual were all present. The oil, the water, the Flame, the stone.

"O Goddess," she began. "Your devotee entreats you."

She felt her eyes warm, and a pink glow was cast across the altar.

"O Empress of Magic, she who came first among the divine, I humble myself before you."

She tapped out a drop of the perfume into the water, and poured it over her head.

The water was lukewarm, but still made her writhe in discomfort as she felt it bead down her hair and drip over her face and into her collar.

A mockery of a baptism- intended to humiliate.

She opened her mouth to speak, lips curling in disgust as droplets of the perfumed water clung to her lips and befouled her tongue.

"O God-Eater, she whose Flames are life and death herself, I burn myself in supplication." Holding her left hand steady, she lowered it down over the altar, fingers splayed, until the tips just brushed the semicircle of candles, allowing each to be singed slightly before pulling away.

The blistering pain was familiar, but never comfortable.

"O Your Illustrious Candescence," She grasped the shard of obsidian. "She who lights the darkness, I bleed myself as offering."

She drew a narrow cut across the top of her forearm. She remembered in her naive youth cutting horrible gashes across her flexible, nerve-filled palm. Just like in the movies. Stupid.

She dripped the blood onto each of the metals in turn, before gently setting the obsidian back in its place.

The air seemed to grow thick as the smell of blood wafted up in the heat of the candles.

Shame. Pain. Sacrifice.

This was the cost of wizardry. Anyone arrogant enough to bargain with Her, had to be prepared to be brought low. To be knocked to their knees. To kowtow. To forever prove that they care not for the cost, even as they are beaten down. To forever squirm before Her watchful eye.

“My name is Doctor Harlene Roxanne Lalonde. My Confession is thus.” She paused, trying to take a calming breath. She could feel her pulse beginning to race, her hands beginning to tremble. The effects of this ritual were cruelty incarnate, a customized mutilation that was dependent on the wizard.

For Roxanne, Confession felt like withdrawal.

Actually had some progress with this. It’s been months since I started it.

I might actually change the height difference in the pairing square to match my new Headcanon.

I didn’t actually have a Dancestor fav but the closest I could think of was between Cronus, Kankri, Damara. I decided on Cronus just because of a fic request on my AO3.

a few years ago i had the likely unoriginal realization that rose and roxy are one letter (the same letter) away from being prose and proxy, which are..... i guess tangentially related to their characters. probably doesnt mean anything but it amuses me every time i think about it anyway! figured id share because you seem to like wordplay in homestuck.

Hehehe ty for sharing, it's good to be aware of potentialities. I remember freaking out in 2012 the first time I saw someone point out that Rose has literal "purple prose"...

flutters eyelashes do u know that asking people especially trans women why there is discourse (implying people have told people to kill themselves about it because this is the internet) why roxy is a trans woman might be an exhausting thing to ask?

quick reasoning: the pesterchum initials are references to chromosomes with GT->EB, TT (dirk), and TG (roxy) implying transness (hussie has discussed junes handles in this manner). when the last two letters of roxy’s name was being revealed, they were referenced as chromosomal letters. roxy’s pink theme and her defeating HIC. it was a widely accepted hc pre epilogues, so when roxy comes out as trans masc, people r like?????

whats the issue as long as rox is trans? well the issue is that theres context to that move. jade’s body being seen as a joke is a fuckin HUGE one. callie another trans girl comes out as nonbinary? which is? ?? its explained as callie felt like they were forced to identify as a girl to be the opposite of calliborn. calliope the humanity and troll culture weeb. its hard to feel like this was anything but a “theyre an alien thus they must be nonbinary”.

eventually even with all the explanation, people would say “ok? its not that deep? its not like i’m hurting anyone.” and the answer to that is i fucking guess?? i fuckin GUESS. and then rinse and repeat. do u get why its exhausting now.

8lue Fairies

Jake's, Tavros's, Terezi's and June's obsession with their respective blue fairies is a metaphor for chasing hopelessly the image of perfect femininity, similar to how Vriska looked up to the Marquise.

Jake dresses like one of the women he has on his posters, Terezi hopelessly clinging to Vriska, Tavros crushes on blue fairies (at the end he manages to fly away by himself, and also his God tier outfit is blue) AND the fact that he briefly felt confident while stuck on a blue sprite with Vriska, June’s ghost finding Vriska outside her window and them going on a short date, they all want to be the fairy (Although yeah Terezi does want to be WITH the fairy instead)

It’s just that in homestuck, being WITH and BEING that person is often conflicted since these kids don’t understand what the want most of the time, Jane roleplays as a tough detective and wears mustaches like the ones from the men on her posters, but the only poster that has a hot shirtless man is one Jake gave her, she isn’t attracted to them they’re just who she wants to be them, and that mirrors Jake’s Tomb Rider poster and eventual cosplay of her.

And also even though Vriska is the metaphorical blue fairy for others (Tavros and June mostly) she herself chases after a blue fairy, Mindfang and then Aranea until she grows out of it.

And Idk if I want to get extra-textual I’d point out how Mother Mary, someone referenced through the Maryams, is usually portrayed in blue and she is the ideal mother/woman figure Kanaya tries to be (and you could mention Roxy’s desire for motherhood, HIC’s desire to bring the trolls back, every mother links to this kinda)

And the central conflict of “Be with/Be“ is central to homestuck because it’s one the Cherubs deal with, they chase after a partner that reminds them of their “missing half“, and the Cherubs influenced all the events in HS. And you as the reader becomes the characters whenever there is a “=>Be” command, which just weaves that into the very fabric of HS.

Also is the conflict of Attraction and Identity is maybe linked to the Heart aspect? Classpects are a whole other can of worms but yeah I think I’m on the right track.

I don't bother with this series anymore but damn Eridan x Roxy was the biggest missed opportunity ever. Like the fact that they both live in a small place surrounded by water and absolutely hating the loneliness it gave them could've been a nice interaction they could've discussed. Roxy likes dorky, strong dudes with accents, and Eridan likes cute cheerful girls. They have so many hobbies in common like literally the perfect couple. Roxy x Eridan could've literally been the best ship in all of homestuck tbh

It really could have been, yeah. Not only that, but I think Eridan can help be the one to tell her to not bottle up all her loneliness and feelings by drinking away. Notice how fucked up the relationship between her and her friends are like even after they managed getting in the game to see each other. Meanwhile, Roxy can be the one to call him out on his attitude as well as helping him try to move on from his past life as a highblood and the guilt and shame he had kept to himself after doing what he did on the meteor. Maybe find it ironic that she would be close with a troll despite her dislike for The Condesce. And was sort of surprised to hear the one who destroyed the mass population to be was also Eridan, thus making HIC's plans for repopulation impossible. It would give a lot more weight for Roxy to materialize the Matriorb, knowing Eridan still feels bad for hurting Kanaya. Kanaya may not have to forgive Eridan easily, but the two could at least move on and let the other be. Act 6 in general is a lot of missed opportunities. For things like character development and more. It sucks we never got that besides implied offscreen bullshit. At least we have fanfics and fanarts to make up what Andrew Hussie couldn't do. I love my wwixards pair.

I think that the main thing that was off with the epilogue's villains (dirk and jane) is that their actions/arcs line up with more that of other character's then themselves.

I was thinking earlier, about how odd it is that out of all the alpha kids to be chosen to oppose and control the troll species' reproduction, they chose the girl who would let others step on her until the point where she could not continue, and the same girl who spent a large chunk of her life worshipping and getting pseudo-mind-controlled (the tiara) by the condescension.

I mean, certainly, there were other, more viable options for a villain. A lot of the characters don't really make sense as being bigoted against the trolls, but there are a few for whom it would really make sense. Especially Roxy and Dirk, who had to live in the wreckage of HIC's destruction. They spent the first sixteen years of their life in a wasteland that was caused by her. Wouldn't that breed more resentment? Wouldn't that breed any resentment?

And if the choice came between Roxy and Dirk as to who would control people and go behind their backs for what they thought would help, it's a no-brainer as to who would do that. But they couldn't have Dirk as both villains, that would be stale. And that would be a fine argument, unless we count the fact that all of Ultimate Dirk's actions are not in character for him, but instead for Vriska.

Ultimate Dirk is doing everything he does in a quest for relevance. He shows a blatant disregard for others' emotions, and manipulates them all without the slightest sliver of regret but still aiming to help them. But he doesn't need to do any of this. No one is in danger. They're all happy.

Vriska strives for relevance. That was the entire point of post-retcon meteor Vriska and (Vriska), to show that even though she would do anything for it, she's happiest without relevance and when she's with people she cares about. She never learns this lesson fully, but it's suggested. And if anyone was to show a blatant disregard for others, it would be Vriska.

Yech. I wish the Epilogues were better. Anyways this particular tidbit of information means nothing but I thought it was interesting.

Roxy, why would Terezi say you mess so loudly?

"Eeeh? T-rezi said that? ~hic~ I don't know! I'm totally clean honest! Got a gold star today and everything, she's just jealous I need less changes than he-hic~ Her!" Roxy giggled clearly inebriated as she sipped some rather strange looking milk from a large rubber tipped bottle. "Her and Vriska got bellies full of castor oil and I got to drink the good stuff~" she smirked patting her bloated belly with one hand despite her gurgling inside protesting.

There was a serious of trumpeting muffled blasts as Roxy drank her fill. The blustering bursts shook the nursery with Roxy not even bothering to squat or crouch as she began emptying herself instead she simply puffed up her cheeks and pushed. Her already flushed face grew even redder as her diaper sagged to the floor swaying down past her knees until it looked more like a bean bag chair than a diaper.

"I got no idea at all why she'd say such a silly thing~♡." Roxy giggled letting her self fall back onto her massive rump with a loud "SPLAT!" She showed no qualms enjoying her mushy seat as she leaned back and continued drinking from her bottle.

yeah i see it. in eridan's case, you can shift the view to something like kanaya bestowing wizardry upon him and also taking it away.

could be wrong since this is off the top of my head, but wizard stuff has ties to said women underestimating their own abilities and depending on an outside source to lend them their powers or being forced to take upon those powers to carry out the outside source's bidding. those outside powers tend to be LE or the outer gods.

as for puppets, im not entirely sure why puppets/robots were chosen as metaphors for the oppressors? maybe something about being willing to act as puppets for LE. probably more about the type of influence those characters have (or attempt to) on others. lil cal was literally a puppet but managed to entice people willing to listen and/or were vulnerable enough to. same w doc scratch actually.

i wouldnt say its a dichotomy exactly, but they're def themes that attach to femininity and masculinity and to each other. nice ask.
