The reason I chose to do these two in particular was because: 1) (Obviously) Because matched well with the theme 2) In the earlier stages of their development, the two used be the same character. As of currently, they are both completely separate characters belonging to separate stories. However, back then Rue was merely a fantasy AU version of August. So I thought it’d be amusing to showcase their current differences lol

This meme is a MURDER ATTEMPT.

I am absolutely fucking serious. The original meme, without the big red denial, is someone's attempt to fucking kill people.

There is NO SAFE DOSAGE of pennyroyal oil. Even Mother Earth News says there's no reason to use pennyroyal essential oil for ANYTHING, even topically or as a fragrance, for fuckssake! That should give you some idea about how dangerous it is!

Pennyroyal tea, plant matter in hot water, is a traditional abortifacient. It is *incredibly* dangerous, induces abortion by bringing the body close to organ failure (and frequently pushing the system right over the edge, because dosage is impossible to meter), but I would drink a gallon of it before I took a half-teaspoon of pennyroyal essential oil.

Two teaspoons, taken across 48 hours, has successfully killed someone.

Three teaspoons taken as a single dosage killed the consumer within THREE HOURS.

There is NO SAFE DOSAGE! FOR PENNYROYAL OIL INTERNALLY! NONE!

The person who made this meme is PURPOSEFULLY, ACTIVELY, trying to get desperate people killed!

one thing i don’t think people talk about enough in the THG is Peeta’s rebelliousness. like sure we focus on Katniss because she played such a huge role in the whole rebellion but Peeta’s situation is so interesting to me. like he went into the games prepared to die, he knew that he hadn’t a chance (or if he did a very small one) of beating Katniss and the Careers but still he kept loyal to who he was. he refused to bend to the animalism nature that lot of the children in the games develop. its also very telling when his talent in catching fire was a depiction of Rue in her bed of flowers thus showing that he refused to let the capitol ignore their crimes. he takes something so tragic that united the district (11 giving Katniss bread) and simultaneously calls outs the capitals brutality whilst also letting them know that they caused what they fear. unity. hes just so simple and calm in his rebellion compared to Katniss’s direct approach that i feel the smaller aspects sometimes get swept under the rug…anyway stan firegirl and breadboy <3

“okay fine, he lives in hermes’ cabin,” you confirmed. luke had been even closer to your side since he learned you had a crush, desperate to find out who.

he had even gone as far as to help you pick strawberries rather then training.

luke’s face morphed into one of deep thought as you walked, suddenly pretending the trees were so fascinating. not that they aren’t.

he took a dramatic breath before asking, “hmm… hermes’ kid, unclaimed, or minor god?”

you let out a breathy laugh as a small smirk shaped your lips. “hermes’,” you answered.

you watched as something physically clicked inside his mind, followed by his sagging shoulders and slight frown.

“i think i know who it is,” he declared. he crossed his arms as he walked, or more like stomped.

your previous smirk had grown as you taunted him. “oh yea? who?”

he stopped walking so you stopped walking. then he looked you right in the eyes.

“chris.”

a dumbfounded look etched across your face. you waited for him to tell you he was joking. he didn’t.

“seriously?” you ask.

he nods, waiting for you to tell him if he got it correct or not.

your hands held your face as you laughed into them. luke’s face had never looked so confused.

“why are you laughing? is it chris?”

you pulled your face away and looked at him. “no, you idiot.”

his eyebrows furrowed. “then who?”

oh my gods. you mustered up all courage you could possibly find and stepped closer to him.

your bodies were so close that you could feel his body heat on your skin. it made your head spin.

your hands carefully cupped his face and you swear you heard him choke up a gasp.

you stood on your tippy toes and leaned in, closing the space between you. his lips were soft like a pillow, just as you had imagined.

after his few seconds of shock ended, he slotted his arms around your waist, pushing you closer into him.

you laced your arms around his neck, deepening the breathless kiss.

finally you pulled away, leaning your forehead on his.

he had a soft smile on his face, trying to catch his breath.

“it’s you, you idiot,” you laughed.

“i can see that.” he leaned back in, capturing your lips ones again.

the both of you hadn’t even noticed all the bright flowers that seemed to magically grow around you.

Souls in the Sand: Concept Art

As I’ve mentioned here and there, I’ve spent the last two years developing an original story inspired by a small Origins+Empires server a few friends and I started planning. The more I developed plans for my empire to be a sprawling overgrown cityscape of ruins and stone framework inspired by the nether, the more I built up this backstory for the character I wanted to play, a small deerfolk boy named Esra. From there, and over months of working and reworking the story and its characters, I’m proud to say I’m coming up on a 100 piece gallery for my Masters Exhibition to display this story in the form of a song-inspired comic, titled: Souls in the Sand.

Over the next month and beyond the date of my exhibition in April, I wanted to start sharing my work here! I thought it would be fitting to first share all of the concept work I did for the characters last semester as I took each character from their old lineup and reworked them from scratch to see if there were any designs I could make more unique or appropriate for the story. This process consisted of four stages: silhouettes, full-body mock-ups, face and head shapes/designs, and experimenting with the final characters’ designs with a set of unique expressions that best fit their personalities and narrative role.

Since each character was reworked separately, the “new” concept lineup is a little disjointed (and some of the characters’ faces actually ended up different from their full-body designs), but I thought it would be fun to line them up to compare the overall cast to their old designs. With each character(s) I post the concept process for, I may share little bits of the work I’m doing or talk a little about their narrative roles as I go, but for now, have Esra!

I know I don’t post original work here often, but I wanted to share parts of this journey with you guys because it’s been very meaningful to me! And I hope all of the work I’ve been doing may at the very least serve as a bit of inspiration or encouragement for us to keep making silly minecraft stories, to keep drawing the characters we love, and to keep being creative in whatever way is meaningful! <3
