Pearl is a crystal pony and a unicorn with a pearl in front of smoke cutie mark

Gb is an earth pony with a tire w flames cutie mark

And Electra is a fake alicorn w a crystal horn that cant do magic but can create sparks and electricity, his cutie mark has been corrupted by the magic that makes him a fake alicorn and is covered by lightning marks

Rusty is an earth pony his cutie mark is a gear with steam

Caboose is a bat pony, with a theater mask cutie mark

Im stilly iffy on if i want gb to be an earth pony or a griffin and im not satisfied with bat pony caboose, but ohhhh noooo ig that just means ill have to draw more mlppppp >:)

These doodles and the crossover in general is at least a year old by now but @wysteriaisapenguin and I have been messing with Miitopia again and have a fully casted game of Starlight Express characters!

We’re stilling playing with it and working on story and designs but this is just for our own enjoyment. ^^  We’ll be happy to share more in the future.

So sorry for getting back so late but I had to get EVERYTHING down

Rusty

Rusty probably joined Boy Scouts tbh, he just has that Boy Scout vibe abt him

Rusty is the son of Poppa and Belle but spent most of his young years with Poppa which is why when he was first introduced to Belle he didn’t have a great view of her (More abt the Poppa and Belle situation if ppl wanna here abt it)

Rusty tends to get crushes quickly with like any coach that would pay attention to him but he really fell HARD for Pearl. Like he was actually in love then, not just a crush

Rusty has rust because of really bad eczema(rust), like from a young age

He is about 1.5 years younger than Pearl but like 3 years older than the Rockies

The Rockies are his half siblings via Poppa (still part of my Poppa-Belle lore)

Once he is with Pearl, he doesn’t feel the same strive to race. He still competes in the upcoming Championships because he has to defend his Championship as part of the rules but he chooses to lose because he doesn’t really want to be a racer anymore and prefers to be a shunter

Rusty and Pearl live pretty content lives in the yard

Rusty has tried to become friends with Electra and Greaseball. He sort of has with Electra but they don’t really hang out much, but they are on pretty good terms. With Greaseball however, Greaseball seems to be rather cold to him. Rusty doesn’t actively avoid him but he does choose to not spend time with Greaseball

Later on Rusty and Pearl end up having 2 trainlets, Rosie and Will.

Rosie is a pink steam train who acts like Pearl and Will looks just like Rusty

In a high school AU Rusty is in band and is on the water polo team

Electra

Electra was adopted and greatly loves his moms, they are one of the few people that can tell him to do something

While Electra has that whole Electronics thing going on, the first person he had ever been involved with was Volta and they know each other very well

Electra likes to experiment with their hair and they like to try different hair styles and colors

Electra did go try to find his birth parents (because he was abandoned) but it all came up empty

He wants everyone to love him just to ensure that he won’t be abandoned again

One if the reasons why he chose to race in the first place was to get people to notice him and just in case his biological parents saw that he won and would try to find him or see how successful he was without them

He generally feels mixed feelings towards his parents

I don’t think it’s really a hc cuz it was confirmed but Electra is Gender Fluid and Bi

Electra doesn’t really like the freight but he is ok with the Rockies because they sometimes braid his hair for free

Electra didn’t like Greaseball because he naturally got attention and Greaseball getting attention was Electra not getting attention which made him feel more abandoned

In “No Comeback” Electra just went back to his parents house, hand a good long cry, stayed the weekend to talk about his need for attention then went back to the year feeling better

Completely random but in a high school AU Electra drives Greaseball to school, cuz I say so. They aren’t even really friends, their parents are. (Taken from a line in the rap and I just couldn’t stop thing abt how funny it was)

In high school AU, Electra would have been in the fashion club and the swim team

Ahh yes Greaseball 🥰💕

Greaseball is dyslexic (coming from a dyslexic)

He first met Dinah when they were young cuz they just so happened to cross paths

Greaseball’s father was a pretty bad dude who got Greaseball to think that diesel were better than any other rolling stock. Eventually in his teen years Greaseball realized that everything that his father said wasn’t true but some of it he still believed unconsciously

When Greaseball first started to date Dinah he didn’t really know how to handle a real steady relationship and a big growth step for him was when he told Dinah this instead of just telling her that instead of just being quiet to her

He had many flings before Dinah but he never felt like anything would be quick with her, she just felt different

Greaseball wanted to be just like his dad when he was young but in his teen years he realized that his dad wasn’t the best like he though he was and came to find that his father was quite terrible especially to his mother

Now Greaseball love(d)s his mommy to pieces

His mother died right after he won his first championship. He was so torn up about it that he became very depressed and thought about quitting racing. Dinah was there to comfort him and it just so happens that around this same general time Greaseball made it official with Dinah

Greaseball tried for years to fix the way that he thinks to be less narcissistic but he greatly struggled with it and often ended up not thinking of others

He never really meant to uncouple Dinah, he just thought about how he wanted to get back at Electra

Greaseball has a very hard time sleeping without Dinah next to him

Greaseball and Dinah would have gotten married about a year after the race

They had between 5-8 trainlets (they were pretty busy…)

Once Dinah was pregnant the first time , Greased said that it would be his last season of racing

He then became a racing instructor

In a high school AU he would be on the football team and the wrestling team as well as being part of the weightlifting club

He can in fact whistle and he does for Dinah only

Since Starlight Express (my beloved) is getting a revival, it is very important to me as an American that it flops for being too weird. It has to be off putting to boring people. Apparently it is also going to be updated for modern audiences. This is everything I would do to make it so weird it flops in no particular order.

- Trains have Bluetooth connection instead of being coupled. CB kills with an EMP. This is Cool and Modernized.

- Skate insurance is too expensive, actors must run around as fast as they can

- One new character: a car that is suspiciously similar to Lightning McQueen.

- Alt: CB is reworked into a semi truck. He rides a skateboard.

- Nuclear fission powered Rusty

- The moving seats just vibrate

- Make the bizarre spirituality even more prominent. Raise more questions about how this world works. Answer none of them.

- make it clear that Rusty is literally train God/Jesus. Crucify him.

- unnecessary turntable in every song

- The internationals are reworked into something today’s youth can relate to: tiktok aesthetics

- Woke Greaseball x Tradwife Dinah

- Pearl is an influencer car for selfie taking

- Pearl has a new personality. She is the coach car version of Bad Cinderella.

- guest appearance from Skimbleshanks. An actor has to get into full Cats costume to make a one minute appearance

- roller derby segment. No more racing, just an all out slug fest. (this is not how derby actually works lol)

- maximize tiktok integration. Anything that can have a meme should definitely have a meme, regardless of if it works or not.

- make it about generational trauma somehow. do not explain where baby trains come from.

- Ashley is back! She vapes now.

GOOD IDEAS

- Bring back Volta’s whip

- make the freight cars jam skaters

Also this just occurred to me but do the actors get mouth guards? Because the one I use I can talk and presumably sing with no problem and these guys are going like 40mph??

In depth question time,

Which Genre of music do you associate with each train in Starlight Express? Do like, five of em :D

Ok you've not specified anyone so I'm picking <33

Greaseball - Very much rock and roll, but also earlier rock (e.g. The Beatles, The Byrds) and even a bit of jazz. Anything with a good rhythm to it and a bit of sax maybe.

Electra - Mostly synth-pop, maybe some trance EDM. Gotta be heavy on the electronic sound and ideally very otherworldly-sounding

Pearl - Pop rock (with the emphasis more on the pop). Gotta be bouncy and fun, but if some electric guitar can be snuck in that's ideal.

Flat-Top - Punk, but like the good kind. Think X-Ray Spex. A bit of standard rock too, I can see Hanoi Rocks fitting his vibe.

Rusty - Soft rock/acoustic pop. The kind of sound artists like Jack Johnson or Newton Faulkner have. Something overall pretty chill but still with a good rhythm or beat to it.

A bit more difficult since I don't think about them very often, but 🤔

Greaseball turns his game around from talking down and discouraging Rusty during the championships and instead aims all that at people who try to mess with Rusty. He thinks it's a good idea, but Rusty is very firm on violence never being the answer to anything. GB is like? Well how am I supposed to protect you?! Rusty says no, no, sometimes you need to just turn the other cheek.

GB might be a little confused and not get this at first, but when Rusty demonstrates, he gets it a little more. In turn though, he teaches Rusty how to stand up for himself, because while it's not healthy to always be in confrontation with someone, it's also not healthy to just keep taking the bullying instead of doing something about it.

Greaseball Appreciation Day? You mean there's ANOTHER day for me~?

Well, for one I appreciate my source character for existing. I don't have a favorite actor or version of the song. I dont have a favorite production either.

His costumes have been amazing and perfect. Other characters haved changed so much while he hasn't. The choreography of gyrating his hips, doing splits, dancing with other rolling stock and switching from skating forwards and backwards does a lot for his characterization. Everyone loves him or wants to be him! He is charismatic and strong.

My favorite ships are:

GB x Dinah... GB x Pearl... GB x his gang

As well as GB x OCs because oc ships are the best! You don't have to force anything or anyone!

For Unpopular Opinions... I have far too many.

They should introduce him as The Pacific Daylight again as a direct rival to Rusty and the Starlight Express. I think it is cool... being named like a god because you don't need a God's help...

He is smart and competent. He is a hard worker. He is a good leader, it is literally his title. Leader of the Rolling Stock and King of the Track are 2 seperate titles. He got where he is through hard work and he is admired for it as the only diesel racing among electrics.

His misspelling of 1 word after a serious crash / injuries / concussion should not be seen as him being dumb stupid an idiot ect. EVERYONE in the musical does dumb things. Additionally... dyslexia should not be a punchline to jokes...

I don't believe he cheated in races. Dinah would not have called him out on it when he did shove others around. If him being physical in races is cheating then EVERYONE cheats and he should not be pointed at as The Cheater in the musical when Electra actually paid for caboose's work. Yet Electra is never called a cheater.

I just think there is a lot of picking and choosing when it comes to GB vs the other characters ... which I personally don't like.

Favourite Actor: BIG fan of both Jeff Shankley and Michael Quinn for their voices, and Jeff goes double for looks as well because he was incredible as GB on all fronts. More focused on appearance though, my favorites are 100% Matthew Goodgame and Rory McCoullum. Favorite Songs/Scenes: Is there any scene with him that isn't good?? Like genuinely GB is one of my favorite characters for many reasons, but mainly his character has such a lively personality that any scene he's in is a fun one, but ofc Pumping Iron is definitely my favorite song that includes him. Face Claim/Voice Claim: Jeff Shankley will forever be my GB voice claim, but as for face claim I'm not too solidly locked in on that yet. Rory is definitely up there as one of my top choices though. Favorite Costume(s): Honestly his costume hasn't really changed much at all over the course of official productions, so I don't have a major favorite, but I do really like the current costume and his original costume had a lot of style to it as well. Favorite Ship(s): GREASEDINAH MY BELOVEDDD. I've been sold on them since day one they're such a cute couple. I am not opposed to GB x Pearl though, that one's also very good. GB and Rusty is another decent ship, I haven't read/wrote too much about it but I can see the potential and I live for it tbh. Headcanons: Very very big on physical affection whether it's romantic or platonic. He's an actions speak louder than words kind of guy and believes that the best way to show how much he cares is through hugs or kisses or basically anything physical. I also really like the idea that he's not just the leader of his gang, but overall a figure that a lot of trains follow, and he's essentially the leader of the railyard that he comes from. Unpopular Opinion: Writing a whoooole analysis for him atm that I could insert into this section, just not a major fan of the idea many people have that he's stupid, especially not when it stems from him misspelling something after the crash. I also don't think he's as aggressive as people make him out to be, he is aggressive but only to a certain extent.
