My kids and I just returned from having lunch with a retired friend. As we pulled around the turn and saw the house, my daughter spied what she thought was a rabbit sneaking through a gap I carelessly left open in the garden fence. Bad news! I do NOT want to lose all my tender little green bean plants from the late planting - or anything else! The kids propped up the fence a little bit at the top of the garden, and tried to shoo it out (turned out to be a groundhog, btw) The garden is grown up pretty tall, tho, with lots of big squash and pumpkin vines to hide in. They lost sight of him, so I grabbed Lady and went out for a reckoning. Lady is big on ‘chase’ and not very interested in ‘bite’, so she’s a great dog for removing a critter from the yard if I don’t actually want to hurt it. Lady also knows she’s not allowed inside the garden fence, so it was a little stressful for her when I lead her inside. We walked around the lines of tomato plants, hopped over the overpowered pumpkins that are claiming the center of the garden, and went up to the embarrassingly overgrown corner where the ‘hog was last spotted. “Hunt ‘em up, girl” I told her. She got a little sniff, alerted, and started looking around more vigorously. Moments later she jumped it, they crashed through a row of my corn (whoops!), and the very young, small groundhog doubled back on her and got around the end of the pole bean fence. I have tarps on the ground between the beans and the woodshed, so I don’t have to weed there this year. The mini-hog galloped full speed down the line of tarps, making a hilarious rapid pattering noise. Lady (not the brightest) chose to run down the other side of the bean fence. She made a heroic leap over the goliath pumpkin vines and rounded the corner of the woodshed in hot pursuit of the hog. I was close behind them both, and called Lady off as soon as the hog was conclusively OUT of the garden. We couldn’t stop laughing. I took Lady back inside and gave her free choice of dog treats and a good back rub. She did what was required!
Starting off strong: here's a cute picture of my dog, Larka, on her last birthday. She's fifteen years old. If anyone in the Tumblr abyss sees this somehow, please confirm that she is cute. Thanks.
I would like to introduce you to our soon-to-be new baby (adult) girl!
We met her in person today, and we decided that she will be coming home with us soon!
From her pictures alone I was already feeling something, but meeting her in person today sealed the deal. She is just the sweetest, happiest little dog, so much energy, ready to be a puppy again after giving birth to a litter of puppies herself!
My husband really loves her too, we’re so excited to bring her home!! She’s getting spayed on the 19th, and then I’m not sure how soon after that into her recovery they will let us take over, but I’m thinking she’s coming home if not this weekend, then sometime next week!!
I wondered how big this guy was gonna get when we got him at 8 weeks old. He will be 3 y.o. in September & he weighs 67lbs. He's a picky eater or he'd be heavier. Sure love this dude🐶💙 He loves to snuggle & lay on my feet🥰
