Hiya!✨ I hope your Wednesday has been treating you all very well! Today I just learned of some sad news involving a family member, so I’m feeling a bit down. I know I can’t stay in this mindset if I want to get stuff done today. I need to catch up after I accidentally took a four hour nap yesterday so I’m just trying to accept it and let it go for now.
If you can tell I’ve decided to let go of the black and white theme and lean more towards warm tones. I just wanted to snap a quick picture of my textbooks and tell you all what classes I’m taking this semester. I’m a first year student in a general humanities program but I’m hoping to double major in multimedia and communications in second year. This semester I’m taking 5 courses...
🌞Beginners Intensive Spanish B
🌞Introduction to Communications
🌞Breaking into Television and Film
🌞Introduction to Contemporary Indigenous Studies
🌞Innovate: The World of Entrepreneurship
My favourite course right now is probably Spanish because I’m really starting to enjoy the content. Though Breaking into TV and Film is a close second because my professor is an actual director who has worked with stars like Dave Franco and Mathew Perry. He always tells us the wildest stories.
What courses are you taking this semester?🌙

My first week of school was rough. Here is what I did wrong and how I smoothed out a rocky transition into the new semester.
Tumblr media
While many students enjoy the back to school season, it isn't uncommon to hear of students dreading the return back to school after the holiday break. I was not necessarily dreading it but I was stressed about it. I subconsciously decided I was not going to prepare for a single thing and that is what screwed me over. I wanted to avoid thinking about it and because I did that I procrastinated. By not preparing for back to school early on I only caused myself preventable stress. Here is what I did wrong and how I fixed it…
I did not update my calendar or update my weekly schedule:
This was a big mistake. Not setting up my calendar or a proper weekly schedule meant I was going based off of what I remembered or at least what thought I should be doing. We all know this never ends well. This meant that I forgot to do some tasks and didn’t have a proper scheduled time to do important things like visiting my academic advisor or buying textbooks.
I did not come back to campus as early as I had planned:
I had planned to get back to campus between 2-3 the day before classes started and instead I arrived on campus at 6:30. I had also agreed to hang out with people from 7:00-10:30. It was already a day that I had felt mentally and emotionally drained yet I still agreed. I had fun but I should have allowed myself a one day buffer to ease back into the routine gradually. This prevented me from catching up on everything I needed to do but didn’t do over the break.
I never unpacked or cleaned my room:
Some people can work in a messy room, I can too but only to a certain extent. In my opinion, messy rooms are the perfect space to work creatively though they are terrible for getting school work done. Normally what I do is clean when I get back from my last class. If I can’t do that I will do it in the morning as I generally wake up at 4:00 AM during the week (will be writing an article on that later this month). However, during this week, I never did any cleaning. So most of my clothing remained in the suitcase and I tried to find a spot to get stuff done amidst the chaos.
I did not have a class schedule that I liked until the Thursday of my first week:
This was another one of my biggest mistakes. Not having a schedule that I was happy with before the start of the term meant that I wasted a lot of time going to classes I didn't know I was going to stay in or not. It was hard to move around courses or switch in and out of things because many of the courses I wanted were full. It was a stressful process that could have avoided.
I didn’t buy my textbooks:
A lot of people have many different opinions when it comes to buying textbooks. I say buy the textbook for mandatory courses and for electives buy the textbook as soon as you know for sure you will be staying in the course. I had one mandatory course and an elective that I knew for sure I would be staying in. I knew I needed to buy these textbooks as soon as possible and I just couldn’t find the time. This caused me to lose half a mark on a lecture quiz because I didn’t do the reading. It really isn’t a big deal but when I know it could have been avoided it’s frustrating.
I never introduced myself to my professors:
I have accommodations in university (let me know if you want me to write an article about this because I think it could be interesting), those accommodations require me to introduce myself to my professors and TA’s just so they know what to expect from me in the course. I was so scatterbrained this week that I kept forgetting to properly introduce myself. Now I have to book office hours with my professors and TA’s which is more complicated. Even if you don’t have accommodations I recommend that you introduce yourself to professors. They have a lot of students and matching a face with a name will make them more open to helping you and giving you extensions when you need it.
I believe that everything happens for a reason and that when things happen there is always a lesson to take out of it. Last week I learned the importance of time management, planning, and organization and how procrastination can disrupt my entire week if I am not careful. I hope you all had a better first week! If you feel like sharing, how was your first week of school?

Hello! My name is Kristen! I am an eighteen year old Canadian first year getting my undergrad in humanities at a university. In my second year I am planning on majoring in multimedia and communications. As for a future job I would love to work in marketing or start my own business.
.
I have started this studyblr once before and it failed miserably. I had started it back in grade 11 when I first discovered the studyblr community on a nightly tumblr deep dive. I was struggling to keep up with high school mentally and emotionally at the time and it very soon felt more like a chore than an outlet so I decided to end it. I have decided to start this studyblr once again for two reasons The first being I need a fun creative outlet. I need a place where I can write and share how I am feeling while also practicing making engaging media content regularly. The second reason is I need accountability for the work that I do or I will never do homework. I especially need this accountability with my readings oof.
.
I am planning on posting two articles and two updates a week. My first article will be posted Monday and I can’t wait to share it because I really think it’s something that a lot of people can often relate to right now.
.
I’m really looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you! I’m also really looking forward to being inspired by the experiences of other students in the studyblr community! :)
