everyone gets why reginald shut klaus out of the portal in ep9, right??

I keep seeing people mentioning the scene without pointing this out and personally it was obvious to me (and my dad who I watched with lol) that ~someone~ was going to get left behind no matter what but idk if that translated for everyone so……prepare for Long Post Time

when reginald mentions the fables at the beginning of the episode, there’s a strong emphasis on there being 7 of everything, go figure lol. it goes to show that with the sparrows, he most likely could’ve adopted them too in s1 but he didn’t because he specifically wanted seven of the kids. each story he reads off requires exactly seven, no more and no less.

the group starts off with nine; six umbrellas, plus ben, sloane, and lila. two too many.

when the vote backfired on him, he does precisely as he tells luther before he kills him—only a death can be powerful enough to bring them all together to do something none of them want to do. in s1 none of them wanted to fight together again, but because they came back for the funeral they couldn’t avoid trying to stop the apocalypse. it didn’t have to be luther, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. any one of them could’ve been killed in his place, it was simply convenient. if one of them hadn’t gone to the buffalo room on their own, he probably just would’ve used allison’s deal to get her to come in there and kill her instead.

but of course, that leaves us with one more to go.

because reginald makes no effort to hold any particular character to the back of the group as they enter the tunnel, he clearly doesn’t care who he has to leave behind, but rather that the number of people that makes it through is all that matters. I’m convinced he didn’t care that it wound up being klaus that was left even though reginald knew about his powers. if he had been absorbed by the kugelblitz with everything else, he wouldn’t have been dead he would’ve ceased to have ever existed. no afterlife, just *poof* out of existence.

but as usual, klaus is smarter than reginald, or anyone else including himself, gives him credit for. he knew if he died before he disappeared, he’d wind up in the afterlife, which is easy to assume klaus had figured out as the entire world population would’ve wound up as ghosts if getting kugelblitzed truly was the same thing as dying. hence why he knew to kill himself before the kugelblitz had the chance to wipe him out.

despite what he said before he shut the door, it wasn’t just because he thought klaus would get in the way of the plan, it’s because he objectively would. he needed a way to ensure that once they were all being drained of their powers, no one would be left free to stop him from resetting the universe to his own specifications, a-la allison.

he needed seven, no more no less, but he just happened to underestimate his son for the last time in the process.

Personally, I think they should turn the fact that Aiden Gallagher is basically an Adult Man into a running gag in Umbrella Academy. Like yeah, I'm cool with their "y'all have had to accept weirder things than this 19-year-old in pre-pubescent schoolboy shorts, just ignore it and look at the sentient cube thing" approach. It's quite humorous actually, but I think it would be really funny if they just:

"Hey guys is it just me or does Five look a lot older than you remember?"

"You're right actually, weren't you thirteen like a week ago? Why do you have a five o'clock shadow?"

"You've all aged me 20 years just let me f*cking retire."

A/N: Ben my beloved in every fuckin life. The reader has vampire powers because I'm a MCR fan. If people like this ill make it a semi-series. Dialogue was taken directly from the first episode (...so…much…pausing)

The reader is an asshole bc I said so <3 No pronouns used. Spoilers for season 3. Reader was apart of the umbrellas before they died.

     Oh, how you wanted to go back to semi-peacefully reading your book but unfortunately, here you were trying to kill some ragtag group of people calling themselves the “Umbrella Academy” who claim to live in your home. 

     The day started normal albeit a little mundane and predictable. Waking up, breakfast, training, training, and oh wait I forgot more fucking training. The day only got interesting when after training for the last time the mission alarm sounded. suiting up had to be your favorite part, something about the custom-tailored pleather suit made you feel a bit better before going out and risking your life for others. Pulling yourself out of admiring your suit, you make your way to where the rest of your teammates are standing. Looking down upon something’s…or maybe someone’s? After getting to the balcony you look down and see 6 people arguing with Reginald, stating how they live here and that they are his children.

    “I’m guessing they’re from your side of the family.” Alphonso jokes “shame they never made it to the wedding” making Jayme and you chuckle. looking back down you see your husband, Ben walking towards them. 

    “Watch him say some antagonistic shit.” you joke towards Alphonso. just about that time he asks “Dad, who the hell are these assholes?”

    “Told you” you playfully state. 

    Going downstairs to be face to face with your…in-laws? Rivals? That seems more like it. Reginald introduced them as “The Umbrella Academy”, that they were the ones who had terrorized and stalked him in Dallas and they claimed to be his children. 

    “Is he telling the truth?” Marcus asks your houseguests. One of them responds that Reggie is wrong about them and that they are “amateur-fidious, at best”. Silently snickering to yourself about how dumb they must be, you turn your attention to the big one stating they grew up here.

    “Yeah, we grew up here.” Alphonso mocks earning a chuckle from your family. Soon enough more of the Umbrellas are telling you to leave and how you were in their home. As your company incessantly insists that YOU are the intruders and many sarcastic remarks are thrown towards one another, Grace comes in, prompting the umbrella with the many knives to call her mom. Jayme replies by calling him a perv and that's when things started going even ore downhill. Many insults ad jabs were tossed around but it came to a semi halt when Jayme spit on the one with knives, sending him out of the fight. 

    Marcus gave them an ultimatum, leave in 30 seconds or (in your own words) we’ll beat the shit out of you. It seemed as if they were going to leave until the one with the hat spoke to Ben. Stating that he looked better alive except for his haircut. 

    “Oh and would you look at that, little number eight.” the man turned to you and stated with fondness. “My god would you look at that, in life and death they're together. I must say you both look incredible alive.” the strange man continued. “Shut your mouth.” you both hissed at the man. That was when he went in for a hug, you punched him as hard as vampirically possible sending him over the coffee table and starting a Sparrow v. Umbrella fight.

    “Hey you didn't have to do that!” the big one shouted at you.

    “Um yes I did, bitch.” you argued now wanting to go back to your typically mundane days. Soon enough everyone is fighting, Marcus and the other big guy, Fei and the really pretty one, Christopher and the pervy knife boy, Ben and the…little kid? Alphonso, you, Sloane, and Jayme were currently watching Fei kick the pretty girl’s ass. Until she said something that made Fei freeze, that's when you and Alphonso joined the fight.

    “Hit me. C’mon, hit me in the face.” Alphonso told her just before she hit him as hard as she could, the punch reverberating back to her cheek. Walking towards her you try and stomp her but just before your dress shoe can make contact she disappears. Now that everyone had been thoroughly dealt with you meet back up with the others in the living room, watching Marcus antagonize and thoroughly kick his ass.

    “Thai food for dinner?” Fei asks to mixed opinions. “Fine Italian?” they ask, annoyed at everyone's indecisiveness. “I could fuck some Italian food up right now.” you joke earning a chuckle out of your in-laws. Just as Marcus was about to finish the big one of his siblings called out, making Marcus look up and giving the big hairy guy time to get out. Focusing on the one that escaped you go after him, hunting him, like a cat and mouse game. Stopping to hear his loud, thunderous footsteps you track down where he is.

    “Where are you going?” you say with faux sadness standing about 6 feet away from him. “We were just starting to have fun.” dryly laughing at your own jokes.

    “Look I don't wanna hurt you, y/n. I mean we both know I could,” he says laughing (as best as he could) at his last statement. 

    “Oh fuck you, you big bitch.” you say while not taking your eyes off of him as he tries to go around you. Circling him you reveal your knife. “Nice toothpick.” he tries to shit-talk while walking closer to you. “C’mon I know this isn't you, y-you were so sweet and kind, wouldn't hurt a soul,” he states getting very close, close enough to touch you. Becoming rightfully freaked out by this and the other man talking about you dying and being dead, and worst of all you AND your husband being dead. Deciding that you probably shouldn't stab this man in your hidden passageway, you scratch him with all your force giving him 4 long scratches across his cheek. 

    The big man fell to the floor, clutching his cheek. “Go.” you say strictly as he runs to a different part of the house. Resuming where you were with the rest of your family, you stand over the person who distracted Marcus. Just as you were about to throw the first downward punch, they sent a powerful blast that threw everyone backward, hitting your back on one of the many ornate columns in the room. Struggling to get up and recuperate you limp towards Ben with arms open he holds you up next to him, arm wrapped securely around your waist.

“It's over. Don't come back here.” Marcus says firmly and menacingly.

Umbrella Academy Season 4 Thoughts and Theories

I agree with @eddie-dxaz‘s theory that Allison is dead. To summarize, Allison is in the afterlife, which has taken on her form of heaven. Once the siblings realize that, Klaus will attempt to resurrect her (the question is, will she even want to be resurrected?- I kind of doubt it).

Since Klaus hasn’t fully reached this ability, he will spend the season focused on that.

I’ve already seen people theorizing that next season will be his ‘crazy’ season (after Luther, Diego, and Allison). I think his obsession will be attempting to master the power of resurrection- specifically in order to resurrect Dave as well as Allison. People have already pointed out that each season, a character’s obsession stems from trauma and attempting (sometimes) to work through it. Dave & Klaus’ time in Vietnam is a pretttyy big source of trauma (not to mention his most recent source of trauma through betrayal thanks to Reggie). We’ve already seen that his tattoos have disappeared- they were special to him so that could potentially cause a crisis for sure.

The Ben on the train is Umbrella Ben- the Umbrellas AND the Sparrows should exist in the reset timeline. Not to mention, what’s the point in including that as an end credit scene if it is in fact Sparrow Ben? It didn’t serve much purpose beyond showing him, and we already know that Sparrow Ben is alive and with them in that timeline.

Speaking of the Sparrows, since they (presumably) existed in the original timeline (just not the Sparrow Academy) they’ll also exist in this timeline. They just won’t recognize any of the Umbrella Academy members. I imagine this will cause a bit of a crisis for Ben, as we’ve already seen how he bases so much of his self identity on the Sparrow Academy.

Luther of course, will be searching for Sloane- we have no idea what her life is like in this timeline, so that plotline could take several forms.

Diego and Lila, of course, will be starting a family.

And (obviously) the main focus of the season will be on taking down Hargreeves. I think next season has the potential to be a great one, especially now that they’re moving away from the apocalypses plotline. That repetition hasn’t bothered me too much yet just because of how creative the show is in other ways, but regardless I’m glad they’re moving on to a strong villainous presence. This will be an incredibly difficult and personal fight for all of the Hargreeves, and Colm Feore is an fantastic villain, so personally, I can’t wait for season 4.

Allison’s anger was valid this season (Except for the Luther scene) as she has basically lost her husband and her daughter all in the same day/week while having no time to grieve for her loss but is no one going to talk about how she killed Harlan, a man who Viktor kinda viewed as his son and was Viktor’s only link back to Sissy because she was going through pain of losing her family, only to do the exact same thing to Viktor. I hope Harlan or Sissy are brought back in some way because honestly, I think it would have made much more sense if it had been Reginald who had killed their mothers rather than Harlan as he was the one who adopted different kids after meeting them in the 1960′s and who knows what type of connections he has.
