Tove Jansson Videos!

Here’s a list of some videos on yle that feature Tove Jansson and often others; most are interviews, though there are some that aren’t. These probably aren’t all of them, and there’s also audio recordings you can find, but it’s late and I need to get up early tomorrow so I’m posting this as is lol.

Lars, Tove and Tuulikki in Japan - 15.9.1991 - Short one featuring the iconic trio!!!! Tove once again being a fashion ICON and referring to the others with their nicknames ‘Lasse’ and ‘Tooti’ :’)

Tove's brother Lars and Tuulikki Pietilä travel to Japan to see Moomin animations that have been completed. They are extremely satisfied.

Interview with Tove at Klovharun in Pellinge - 2.9.1991 - Oh this is GOOOOD! Tove is so lovely and cheerful in it (she is in them all, tbh) and we see some 90s Moomin anime character sheets!!!!

Reporter Christian Forsberg siblings Tove and Lars Jansson at Klovharun in Pellinge archipelago. They discuss the Japanese animations, why Tove thinks they are good, and what it's been like to work with them. We also hear more about the advent of Moomintroll.

The Japanese Animations - 6.9.1991 - Tove talks about her love for Snufkin in this one :D

The youth magazine X-tra also speaks with Tove Jansson. Junior reporter Nike Tallqvist interviews Tove Jansson. Tove Jansson and Sixten Lundberg, who has given Moomintroll their voice, talk about the animations. Tove Jansson is very happy and satisfied with the films. They have become good, she thinks. Especially Snufkin is nice. "I'd like to be like that," she says.

The Moomins and the Great Flood - 18.11.1991 - However, Tove Jansson is not so pleased with the new release of Småtrollen and the great flood. She thinks the book is not good.

Tove Jansson and Tuulikki Pietilä about art and life - 09.15.1991 - Tove, Tooti, and Pentti talk in this one and we see Moomin figures & tableaux.

Here, Tove Jansson and Too-ticky, Tuulikki Pietilä, are interviewed about the construction of the Moomin House. The idea came from Pentti Eistola, who built a smaller Moomin house. And from that, the idea of the house grew. The gang gathered for play nights where there was carpentry, painting and sewing.

The house travelled around the world, first to a Moomin exhibition in Bratislava, to finally stay at the Moomin exhibition in the Tampere library.

Here we hear what Tuulikki likes to make herself as a doll. And why Pentti Eistola made a Moomin House.

Tove and Friends - 1970 - This is literally just a 24-minute-long video of Tove chilling with some mates including Lasse Pöysti and Birgitta Ulfsson and Erna Tauro oh my gosh!!!!

Here we visit Tove Jansson in her studio home with friends of her. Lasse Pöysti sings the Moomintroll show, Tove draws and the gang discusses.

It is a real home for reportage. From time to time, someone puts in a relevant question, and in between you talk gently, cut bread and cheese, and drink wine.

Discussions revolve around the studio home, drawing Moomin films, Moomin visors and Tove Jansson's writing.

Erna Tauro, who wrote the music for Tove Jansson's songs, talks about how it feels to compose to lyrics.

Tove Jansson on the Moomin House - 1.9.1979 - This one has some pretty good shots of the moominhouse tableau!

With the help of friends Tuulikki Pietilä and Pentti Eistola, Tove Jansson has created a Moominhouse, a dream house that stands for everything that modern architecture does not do.

It took several years to create the perfect house. The decor is complete in every detail. In the Moomin House you can find everything needed in a house.

The Moomin House will travel to Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Architecturally, the Moomin House is a concoction of different styles; Karelian style, baroque, empire and rococo.

Tove Jansson is happy and eager. She sees the Moomin House as a fantasy house that stands against the modern beehives where no one wants to live.

About Tove Jansson's childhood - 09.15.1991

Tove Janssons talks about her safe but bohemian childhood and how her life has become with the celebrity.

Tove Janssons' upbringing was bohemian and artistic. If mother Ham (Signe Hammarsten-Jansson) can not tell Tove Jansson, it is difficult to tell if someone you have loved so much.

But about her father (Viktor Jansson) she draws stories. He was a bohemian, with an unavoidable attraction to the bourgeois. He longed for disasters and kept them in good spirits.

You may see where the characters Moominmamma and Moominpappa and really the whole family come from.

About Tove's choice of profession and Moomin's birth - 09.15.1991

Tove Jansson talks about how the little troll was born in a comic book Garm. It was just a coincidence that she started writing children's books, maybe she longed for childhood summers.

The creatures give each other freedom. But the figures evolved. As an example, Tove Jansson takes Moominmamma who can get really angry. And Snufkin, who is totally free and alone, comes and goes as he pleases. He was Tove Jansson's idol for a long time, but he is really self-centred and spoiled. After all, it is easy to be alone and stick out in the wilderness when you are hailed and applauded when you get home. Fillyjonk, on the other hand, goes under by loneliness.

The cartoon was what took Tove Jansson's loss. It was terrible, but Too-ticky helped Tove Jansson write Moominland Midwinter. There she placed Moomintroll in a strange world. He not only experienced adventure, but also difficulties.

The Moomin World, the Celebrity and the Moomin Fan - 15.9.1991

Tove Jansson also talks about the difficulty of being known, all the fans who write and demand answers. She refers to Topelius and Astrid Lindgren who know equally.

When there is talk of all the research in Tove Jansson's books, she just gets irritated, they could wait a bit at least.

Tove Jansson became more and more shy over the years, but she gained recognition for her Moomin books all her life. She talks a lot about fame and trouble.

Anna Savonius wonders if the Moomin books became too narrow when Tove Jansson can no longer write about them. Tove Jansson thinks that they changed the meaning, and she went back to visual art.

And with horrible mothers she switched to short stories and novels.

Mostly she writes well for herself. But children's books need a happy ending, it may be awful, but not cruel and contain justice and honesty. However, you do not need education.

Tove Jansson Becomes a Professor - 5.11.1995

Tove Jansson became an honorary professor and was 80 years old before she died on June 27, 2001.

Tove Jansson receives the Topelius Prize - 9.28.1978

Tove Jansson received the Topelius Prize in 1978 when she published The Dangerous Journey (1977). It is Tove Jansson's last picture book about the Moomin role. Tove Jansson thinks about the dangerous journey, she thinks it may not have been so successful in terms of text, but she likes the pictures.

Here, Tove Jansson tells Chris Zitting about how fame has affected her. About how she hated to see her beloved character being commercialised and because of that, she began to lose the desire to write about Moomin.

She also talks about the inspiration to start writing more adult books.

Tove Jansson tells us that the book Moominland Midwinter (1957) was very important to her. She was stuck and couldn't write a lot more, but her life partner Tuulikki Pietilä (Too-ticky) helped her by suggesting that she place Moomintroll in a new and strange world. That helped Tove Jansson move on.

The interview was made in 1988, but was shown again after Jansson's death in 2001. The program has Finnish subtitles.

Viktor Nikiforov

You probably already know that “Viktor/Victor” is, you know, the same thing as “victor” aka “winner” (but fancier).

So fun fact. I’m Greek. Yes, as in, I speak greek. Yes, as in, I had Ancient Greek(AG) in middle school (not very fun, shitty teachers) and high school(significantly better, actually pretty interesting).

My point is. Nikiforov means (son) of Nikifor, right? Like, you don’t need to be Russian to get that. Nikifor, though, doesn’t exactly mean victory, though. It’s very close, but I want to be accurate™ so allow me to use my cataclysmic-for-entrance-exams knowledge on AG (yes, for some students how good you are at AG is how many chances you have at your uni of choice) to get there.

Nikifor in Greek is Νικηφόρος which we can analyze into Νίκη+φορος. Νίκη is also known as victory (or nike, if you wanna go there). The second part -φορος can be used on its own (φόρος [sing]) , but we aren’t talking about taxes (=φόροι [pl]) so we’re going to see where it comes from. This leads to the verb φέρω, meaning to bring. (this bitch is part of the irregulars in ancient greek and it’s so annoying Istg).

TL;DR Victor Nikiforov? More like Winner son of the Winnerbringer.

Or if you’re a drama sucker (and can stand invoking artistic liscense with the synonyms of bringer) like me, it’s Champion (son) of the Bestower of Triumpth.

He was, Yuuri had to conclude, quite possibly the worst sonof Aphrodite in history.

Ever since he had arrive at Camp Half-Blood four years ago,fourteen years old and terrified of the monsters that he hadn’t even believedin before they had begun hunting him down, he had never quite felt like thedemigod he was supposed to be. In camp activities he was perfectly average, hecould fight and shoot and Celestino had even asked him to give demonstrationsto the younger campers on occasion. But when it came to godly powers, there wasnothing.

Some people were late bloomers, he had been assured manytimes. And Aphrodite’s powers didn’t always manifest in the most obvious ofways. But ever since his claiming a few weeks after he had arrived at the camp,there had been no other indication that he even belonged in the Aphrodite cabinthat he now called home. No powers marking him out as one of his mother’schildren, not even the marked beauty the rest of his brothers and sistersseemed to possess, although Phichit had insisted many times that that was alie. His half-brother Chris still took every opportunity to try and help himdiscover his ‘true powers of Eros’ but after four years, Yuuri had come to acceptthat he was about as ordinary and powerless as any demi-god could be.

It was something he couldn’t help thinking about while waiting outside the Big House withthe rest of the campers, all eager to hear the newest quest handed down to one of their number by the oracle. Viktor Nikiforov had been chosen, to absolutely no-one’ssurprise, and there was already crowd gathered outside the house, waiting to hear what daringadventure he was set to embark on next. Yuuri most of all.

Ever since he had arrived at the camp, he had followedViktor’s career religiously. The other boy might only be a year older than himbut he had been living at the camp since he was barely a child and was already amaster at nearly every activity they had to offer by the time that Yuuri had arrived. Viktor’s mother Nike mightonly be a minor goddess but Viktor certainly was no minor demigod, easilyoutstripping his peers and completing quest after quest over the years to the awe of all thecampers, Yuuri included.

A hush fell over the crowd and Yuuri was jolted out of his musings, glancing up to seeViktor emerging from the doorway, a grin on his face as he looked at the assembled crowd.

“Well Viktor, what instructions has the oracle given you?” Yakov asked, arms crossed and hooves shifting impatiently as he stared at his student, waiting for an answer.

“She assigned me a quest,” Viktor confirmed, still grinning ashis eyes scanned the crowd, as if he was looking for something. “But she toldme if I wanted to succeed, I needed to choose a partner to come with me. And choose wisely.”

Whispers broke out among the crowd almost immediately, thefeeling of anticipation in the air only heightening at the words. It was hardly unusual fordemigods to go on quests in pairs but being given free choice wasn’t as commonand everyone was alert, waiting with baited breath to see who Viktor wouldchoose. Being chosen for a quest with Viktor Nikiforov was something manycampers dreamed of.

Yuuri included, although he would never admit it out loud.But in his imagination, everything was different. He was confident and powerful,throwing around his godly powers with ease the way Viktor did his and winningall of Viktor’s admiration and attention in the process. That dream would become a nightmareif it ever became a reality. Yuuri had nothing to show, no powers to speak of, andany quest he tried to complete would undoubtedly be a disaster.

Not that Viktor would ever pick him anyway. There weredemigods in the camp capable of creating typhoons or lightning storms, Yuuridecent ability with a sword was hardly a notable talent and Viktor likely hadno idea that he even existed. Or if he did, he had probably only heard the rumours ofthe son of Aphrodite who some people weren’t even sure was really a demigod atall.

Yes, it really was for the best that there was no possibleway Viktor would ever pick him, Yuuri reasoned to himself. He would only be a disappointmentand embarrassing himself in front of his idol was the last thing he ever wantedto do.

“Well, who do you choose Viktor?” Celestino asked, tail swishing fromside to side and looking at Viktor expectantly.

“I pick Yuuri Katsuki,” Viktor replied and silence fell overthe crowd, every eye turning to Yuuri in a single moment.

Yuuri felt his heart plummet in his chest.

The way Phyona writes the interactions between Yuuri and Victor are some of my absolute favorite. She writes them as good-natured rivals, always ready to compete against one another; as both coach and both student, willing to direct and support one another; as best friends, willing to tease and goof off with one anther; as lovers, passionately invested in one another; and as soulmates, completing and fulfilling one another. She is amazing at writing both comedy and drama, switching between moods and creating the appropriate emotional gravitas. But her stories have positive messages about growth and becoming stronger together.

Nerve Endings

Rating: Explicit Words: 74.1k Status: Complete Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: Canon compliant; Post-season 1; Domestic fluff; Anxiety; Miscommunication; Learning to relationship ❤❤❤❤❤ Summary: When Yuuri moves in with Victor in St. Petersburg, they have to work through Yuuri's anxiety and Victor's secrets to find their balance. ❤❤❤❤❤ Review: This is my favorite post-season 1 fic where Yuuri and Victor learn to live together. This is a story of their interactions off of the ice and how they inspire each other to be better people and boyfriends. Their interactions are awkward but eager at the beginning, and slowly they learn to work through their issues and grow closer emotionally and sexually. One of my favorite parts about this story is when Yuuri has an anxiety attack and almost convinces himself that Victor doesn't love him like he loves Victor, but he's able to work through the negative thoughts and recognize that it's in his head and that he doesn't deserve to think of himself like that. I really like how he is able to work through it himself, which I think is a powerful message. I recognize that this isn't necessarily possible for all people. We all need help at times and sometimes can't work through things by our own power, and that's why emotional support and medical science are so important. But don't discredit how much you can do yourself. Yes, Yuuri is an anxious bean and he can't help his brain chemistry, but he doesn't let it rule or excuse his decisions. He learns to accept and empower himself for both Victor and himself. I love this sort of hopeful and powerful message.

Puppy Love

Rating: Teen Words: 10.4k Status: Complete Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: Canon divergent; Dog Yuuri; Curses; Dead Makkachin; Hurt/comfort ❤❤❤❤❤ Summary: When Yuuri gets turned into a dog, the last place he expects to end up is Victor Nikiforov's apartment. He learns quickly that the only thing worse than being his idol's pet, is watching him pine for someone else. ❤❤❤❤❤ Review: A wonderful oneshot that is both humorous and sad. Victor is suffering the loss of Makkachin and becomes attached to puppy Yuuri, and Yuuri simultaneously wants to hide from Victor and emotionally support the man through his grief. The story is charming in how these two become closer in this weird situation that does eventually correct itself. And they have an appropriately awkward yet happy and honest interaction at the end.

Most of Piyo13's stories are fluffy short stories, about 50/50 Victuuri and Phichimetti. All are appropriately sweet. Her wraiths pinned to the mist is a longer fluffy story where Yuuri and Viktor are scientists in Antartica. Her meatiest, and my personal fave, story is a series that takes place in an alternate canon universe where everyone has daemons - external physical representations of a person's inner self. She's currently written three fics in this universe, and I look forward to whatever else Piyo13 writes in it!

Rating: Teen Words: 40.9k Status: Complete Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: Canon divergence; Daemons AU; Gold medal ending ❤❤❤❤❤ Summary: There's no rules regarding where a daemon has to be in relation to their skater, only that they aren't allowed on the ice. This has always seemed a little unfair to Yuuri. After all, he loves skating like he loves his own soul; why can't he have both? ❤❤❤❤❤ Review: There are several things I love about this story. First, the daemons are adorable and help enhance the story and character scenes without overpowering the characters we already know. They're given their own character without taking up the spotlight, which I feel is the best way to write OCs. Second, despite it being an alternative retelling of the series, every scene feels fresh. Piyo13 is selective about which scenes she covers from the anime, avoiding only retreading over what's familiar. The scenes are altered enough with the presence of the daemons to help them feel new. Additionally, she doesn't let the scenes drag, capturing Yuuri's thoughts succinctly and with wit, and then moving on to the next scene. Even better are the original slice-of-life scenes Piyo13 added to further develop characters and relationships. Moments between Yuuri and Phichit talking over chat (about more than Victor) that delve into their friendship; a moment after JJ's flopped SP where Yuuri helps JJ become motivated again; a moment at the end where Yuuri's parents tell him how proud they are and he thanks them for their love and support; and then all of the new moments between Victor and Yuuri, like when they first start practising pair skating. Third, and probably the best, the last few chapters fix all the major grievances I had with the anime's ending. (Note: If you don't want anything spoiled, stop reading right now). Yuuri gets the gold medal; Chris and Otabek end up on the podium with him; Yuuri and Victor's decision to return to the ice doesn't feel rushed (they return to Hasetsu before discussing their decisions); and, most importantly, Yuuri's decision to return to the ice is only influenced by his own realization that he loves it and that he doesn't want to stop what he's had with Victor just yet. It's not debased or obfuscated by rivalry, when Yuuri's main character arc was always that he's his own worse enemy. The series also includes two side stories: a falling star can't fall forever, a prequel about Victor and Vasilisa; and life's not a paragraph, focusing on Chris. Overall, this is an amazing story.

I would love to read whatever else they bring to this fandom given the quality and creative storylines they've already brought to the table.

a song that never ends (Series, 2 works)

TECHNICAL SUPPORT Rating: Teen -- Words: 18.8k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Research had needed a new field-tester (they always needed new testers, as most Aurors would “test” an artefact only once before screaming to be reassigned), and thus the most decorated Auror in recent history was currently shouting into a modified “smart phone.” Viktor was quite certain that phones were not alive, so he did not understand how they could be intelligent. He found that when it came to Muggles, it was best not to think too deeply into things. “THIS IS NIKE,” Viktor bellowed into the thin, rectangular case. “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?”

movie night Rating: Teen -- Words: 2.5k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: However, they had barely started Howl’s Moving Castle before Yuuri wondered if he had made a mistake. "What a fascinating concept! What spells do you suppose Howl is using to keep his, er, moving structure up?" Viktor refused to call it a "castle." A terrible mistake. ❤❤❤❤❤ Words: 21.2k Status: Complete Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: Harry Potter AU; Aurors; Crossdressing ❤❤❤❤❤ Review: In this series, Yuuri and Viktor are both badass Aurors during a moment of downtime at the beginning of the story - Viktor forced into being a field-tester for the Research Department, and Yuuri recovering from his first, long-term undercover mission. What's really unique about this story is Yuuri's situation and what lead to it. He has taken on a new persona to help ease himself back into his life. Yuuri is amazing and adorable no matter what gender he is, and here he is both. I love how comfortable he is as a woman or a man and how his mannerisms change (and remain the same) across the two. There are a lot of misunderstandings during the first half of the fic - Viktor slowly falling for "Yukina", who reminds him of another Japanese man he was charmed by a year before - but eventually Yuuri opens up completely to Viktor and they become partners. So, so wonderful and sweet! The 2nd fic is a cute, little side-story after they've become partners, where Yuuri tries to show Viktor a Miyazaki movie... and proceeds to regret it once he realizes Viktor's one of those people who must always question and/or nitpick a movie out loud while watching. Haha. The ending where they re-enact an early scene from the movie is horrendously adorable though.

Rating: Explicit Words: 77.4k Status: Work In Progress Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: (Mostly) Canon compliant; Except homophobia exists; Post season 1; Pair skating; Lesbian OCs ❤❤❤❤❤ Summary: Yuuri has won the Grand Prix, which was everything he thought he wanted. But for Yuuri, an end to skating could mean an end with Viktor, and when two female skaters approach them with an offer that could make them or break them, they are put to the test more than ever. Can they rise higher than they already have? ❤❤❤❤❤ Review: Another "homophobia exists within the canon universe" story that is still unique and interesting with how it handles the characters. Yuuri and Viktor are approached by a pair of female lovers who want to do a pair skate with each other at an official ISU competition, and they want Yuuri and Viktor to be their pair skating partners to get them to that point. Yuuri is an idealistic activist who never even really knew he was one until given the opportunity to make a difference. He can be a bit ignorant, following his heart on the matter and not fully understanding what he's sacrificing until in the thick of it and starting to be overwhelmed, but he's brave and kind and his heart is in the right place. He can be a bit preachy when it comes to Viktor's choice to support from the sidelines, but still loves him and tries to find a middle ground. Viktor is the pragmatic realist on the other hand, knowing that supporting this endeavor will cause him to lose his prestige and gold medals. Initially he's insensitive about Yuuri's choice, but eventually agrees to support him but in ways that won't cause him to sacrifice his hard-earned legacy. It's not that he doesn't believe in the cause, but rather he's not willing to give up that much. I personally enjoy this taken on Viktor and find his opinion a valid one, even though Yuuri's lines up more with my own ideals. Eventually, he does fully join and support the cause when things become more personal, but before then is a lot of struggle between the two to find middle ground and maintain a supportive relationship. It's a realistic struggle that I'm certain many couples can sympathize with, and I appreciate the story for going there. This story's greatest strength is the real-life issues, struggles, and reactions these characters face, and yet their desire to continue to support, fight, and love one another. It's a really great story that I hope powerandpathos decides to continue again some day in the future.

Definitely ‘when’! They get together during their quest and are a couple by the time they arrive back at the camp. They end up becoming the Camp Half-Blood power couple and all the other campers really looks up to them. Viktor is already pretty legendary for how many successful quests he’s been on and has been sort of a camp idol for years and Yuuri has always been amazing at technical skills like swordfighting even before his powers manifested so he already had a lot of people looking up to him. The after he comes back from his quest, people find out how scarily powerful he actually is. That brings him a whole new bunch of admirers, although he tends not to use his charmspeak unless it’s a life or death situation so not many of the other campers get to see it. Both of them are very much put on a pedestal and hero worshiped by a lot of the younger campers but it never really goes to either of their heads.

They’re pretty much ‘couple goals’ at the camp as well and they go on dates pretty regularly, although they usually have to sneak out of the camp to get any privacy. Occasionally their dates are interrupted by monsters but they’re demigods so they’re used to it. When they’re together, they act just like they do in canon and the other campers act a lot like Minami, especially the younger ones who look up to them. The older ones like Chris tend to just make a lot of vaguely inappropriate jokes and are very happy at how happy they are together.

They’re both two of the older campers there as well and Celestino and Yakov had always been angling for them to stay on as their protégés so they end up staying at the camp as camp councillors and trainers after most people their age have left. They go home regularly but they live at the camp, although they move in together and don’t stay in their godly cabins anymore. Viktor does more agility and hand to hand training while Yuuri does more swordfighting and they both help campers work on their godly powers.

As for parental reactions, Aphrodite approves of Viktor a lot, which was a big relief for them both since she can pretty much curse their love life if she doesn’t! She was trying to subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) push them together during their quest as she knew that Viktor was the one who could help Yuuri unlock his inner Eros and figure out his true powers. She also loves a good love story, especially when one of her children gets a happy ending. Nike was a bit different because she’s much more of a hands off parent (who Viktor had only ever met once in his life before that point) who is very focused on all her children achieving victory and nothing else. She cared more about Viktor for succeeding in another quest than finding the love of his life but she declared Yuuri ‘a worthy partner for a victor’ and they both figured that was probably the best they were going to get. Viktor cared a whole lot more about Yuuri than success but sometimes godly parents can be weird like that and it’s best not to argue considering they can smite you! Also, Aphrodite gave them a whole lot of blessings on their love and Nike promised that they would achieve victory together so they figured they got a fairly decent deal godly parent wise, all things considered. Thankfully, neither of them got godly shovel talks because that would probably go something along the lines of ‘if you hurt my son I’ll throw you into tartarus for all eternity’ and neither of them would want that!

All in all, they basically just become the adorable camp couple and train new demigods together while making everyone around them a little weak at the knees
