Idea Factory will release otome visual novel Wand of Fortune R for Switch on May 18 in Japan for 7,700 yen, the company announced.

A 9,900 yen special edition will also be available, which includes a special booklet and set of six illustration cards.

Pre-orders for either edition of the game include a sleeve case featuring the key visuals of Wand of Fortune and Wand of Forutne: Mirai e no Prologue Portable.

Here is the game’s story synopsis:

Lulu, a student at the local magic academy, is a problem child that even teachers do not know what to do with. Concerned by her constant failures in magic and ongoing troubles, the teachers consult with their alma mater decide that Lulu will transfer schools.

Mills Clare Magic Institution, the school of every wizard’s dreams, is located in the heart of the magic city Latium, which oversees all the world’s magic. Lulu was excited to pass through the school’s gates, but it was there she learned a shocking truth.

Lulu somehow did not have any of the “attributes” that a wizard should have. If left as she is, there is no telling what kind of harm the reckless magic of the attribute-less Lulu might inflict.

And so, Mills Clare pronounces that if she is unable to determine her attribute during the time she is enrolled at academy, they will have no choice but to seal her magic.

Do otome villainesses actually exist?

When browsing vndb,I got an idea; How many otome villainesses I can actually find. It’s well known in the otome community that villainesses are mostly a rarity usually reserved for mobages and faceless mobs.

While you’ll be hard pressed to find a villainess in a modern otome game due to multiple reason “some people consider it sexist plus let’s be real in a good chunk of plot oriented otome who has time for -insert jealous twin drill groupie- when the world’s about to end”?

So when sifting through the rival tag I got a decent bunch of characters that fit the role.

(Please note: I don’t have much info on these character outside of character summary, so I don’t know if they hit the other tropes of otome isekai like dying horribly, attempting to kill the heroine or a condemnation event plus I never played these games)

Charlotte Eckerhardin- Pretty☆Witch☆Academy! (R18)

She’s betrothed to one of the love interests and in love with another plus she’s described as “determined to make him her "Partner" any way necessary.”

Wakamori Midori- Miss Princess Miss Pri!

There actually three rivals but Midori fits the bill the most being haughty and hass a prissy look to her

Jougasaki Ririko- Saikin Koi Shiteru?

In love with one of the love interest and is described “the jealous prideful type who hates to lose”

Cossette Gipeldi- Oukyuu Yasoukyoku

In love with LI and eats the protagonist like a rival due to her being his twin sister. (And if you’re wondering, Yes they go there)

Yuurakuin Towako- Full House Kiss

A haughty girl who’s cold to the protagonist. It says “her goal is to gain elite status by marrying a rich and powerful man” so there’s a good chance that she could be gunning for one of MC’s LIs

Richil Emaiyu & Deana Carlsait - Ripple no Tamago ~Apprentice Magician~

Mainly Richil due to her antagonizing the MC and stealing her work (plus she has twin drills). Idk if Deana counts since she’s actually a LI’s rival.

Elizabeth- Soshite Kono Sora ni Kirameku Kimi no Uta

Haughty looking girl who considers herself the MC’s rival.

Carlotta- PersonA ~Opera Za no Kaijin~ (R18)

A prima donna who flirts with one of the love interest. Plus, she ends up dying.

Ejima Shikiko- Hanaoni ~Koi Someru Toki Towa no Shirushi~

Treats the protagonist as an obstacle due to them being oni’s brides

Goutokuji Sakurako- Dear My Sun!! ~Musuko★Ikusei★Capriccio~

She kinda counts... She’s more of rival in the “who’s kid is better” raising sim of the game then a love rival. Plus twin drills.

Hayami Nadeshiko- Sto☆Mani ~Strobe☆Mania~

Doesn’t get along with the MC and respect the LI (tbh she seems more like a tsundere than a villainess)

Kotoo Ruka- Panic Palette

Has a connection with LI and considers the protagonist a rival at first sight (a bit extra but go off)

Ookuma Karen - Butlers ~Meshimase Ojou-sama~

In love with LI and related to another.

Fana De La Wibell Leyendike- Albaria no Otome

Wealthy, Ambitious, and a daughters of noble

Shinogami Rie- True Fortune

I don’t have much on this girl but she’s described as cold-hearted

Toujou Yurika- Otometeki Koi Kakumei★Love Revo!!

A wealthy girl who bullies the MC out of envy

Cordelia- Diabolik Lovers

I guess she counts. She’s a haughty noblewoman who torments the MC over a man (either her husband or her sons) or power

Madame du Barry- Bara ni Kakusareshi Verite

Arrogant and literally holds animosity toward the MC for not knowing her.

Rika- Amnesia

Practically the most well known otome villianess. Basically made the MC’s life hell of a LI. She did become friends with her in the later game, tho. Plus she runs with toast in her mouth (Not relevant whatsoever but I had to tell someone that fact)

Cynthia/Adele/Martha- Wand of Fortune

In love with LI and causes trouble for the MC, though they seem to comic relief for the most part.

Welp, that was lot. I guess the main conclusion is yes otome villainess did exist but they mainly seemed to died off. some are more rivals in technical aspects like magic or jobs. Interestingly, I found a lot of stereotypical snobby ojou-sama rival type from galges.

A lot of older Otomate titles are being ported to the switch in Japan in recent years. Such as Princess Arthur,Wand of Fortune and Senjou no Waltz. I would love to see these localized in English. And others such as Snow Bound Land also ported and localized. With physical copies of course because I don't like digital.

What to leave behind and what to bring into the new month

Happy last week of January! Pick a group for insights on what you should leave behind as the month ends and what you can focus on in the new month ahead. Let me know if you have any topics you'd like me to pull for!

My dear pile one,

It is time to let go of your need to do everything on your own. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or weighed down by your responsibilities – or what you think is your responsibility – try remembering that you’re not alone and there are people here to help carry the load. Allow others to help, even in small ways.

Personal growth and development may be a great focus point for you in the upcoming month. The Magician brings forth the tools and energy you need to make progress in this personal journey. Focus on your “why” and look inward at your power. This period of growth will last you throughout (and beyond) the month, so don’t get hard on yourself if you don’t see immediate results. Growth is not linear.

Hello lovely twos,

Rather than the Tower representing a destruction that has already happened/is currently happening, I think you’re being told to leave January with a bang (semi-literally), and create the destruction of your self-limiting beliefs. Light up some sticks of dynamite, rev up the bulldozer, or get that wrecking ball swinging cause we’re not going into the new month with any of our same thoughts. Your self-limiting beliefs have felt like a chaos storm in your brain, and this is your permission to let them go.

February is a month of self-exploration. It is a month to figure out why these self-limiting beliefs exist. This may be a good time to do some shadow work. Shadow work is tough, but I think some good realizations can come out of it. Here are some shadow work prompts if you’re ready to get started. You may find truths you didn’t know existed. Or you may find yourself answering just as you’d expect, but this time… it’s gonna hit different. You’re going to find answers for yourself which will put a lot into perspective and really help with letting go of your self-doubt.

For those who aren’t ready to dive deep into the darker parts of your soul (which is A-OK!), take a look at the resources at your fingertips. How can you align these resources with your goals? For example, do you have a goal to say nicer things to yourself each day? Make yourself a daily check list – add some normal items like “1 hour with no screen time” or “brush your teeth” and then add “say one good thing about yourself”. As you check of the easier items, you’ll see the tougher ones. And in an effort to make those check marks, you’ll get in the groove of participating in the hard tasks.

Teamwork and collaboration seems to have been a theme in January. Whether it be your new years resolution, a project at work, or homing in on a new habit, the foundation was set in this last month. I wouldn’t say you’re really leaving anything behind, but the creation stage is ending. You are moving forward into the stabilization and growth phases of this beautiful thing you’ve launched.

Bring this sense of accomplishment into February with you to start the month off strong. You’ve done really great work! One great way to keep momentum is a partnership between your higher self and the work you are doing. As you continue to build on the project you started think: what can I get out of this project personally and what can I bring to this project to ensure it thrives. You will feel better about the end results knowing that it made your heart happy and that you had something to do with its success.

To my pile fours,

You know what your higher self is trying to tell you. You know what your guides are hinting at. Maybe it seems too good to be true or it’s scary, but either way, you gotta get rid of the clouds you’re using as a way to doubt yourself. I know from experience that self-doubt speaks LOUD. It is MEAN. But it is soo worth getting past. It doesn’t mean it’ll go away for forever, but it sure can get quieter.

In this situation, “clarity” can be seen as the opposite of “cloudy” , and mental clarity is exactly what the King of Swords wants you to bring into/work on in the new month. You may not be ready to jump right into this new thing in February, but you can do the work this month to feel more confident when the time officially comes. Lay out the facts for yourself: I have done hard things in the past; I have the resources I need to be successful; I have people I know will support me when it gets difficult. And repeat these facts to yourself as much as you need to. As with pile two, you could do some shadow work to bring clarity to why you feel this hesitancy to move forward.
