In 1979, Frank Zappa took a shine to an Eastern Indian rock/jazz violinist, L. Shankar. So much so that he produced an album with him, "Touch Me There." Not only does Frank produce, but he also co-writes half of the album and performs on one cut, "Dead Girls of London." So, not surprisingly, this disc sounds like much of the material Zappa was releasing around that time, even though it is technically a "Shankar" album. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Physics in India, Shankar moved to America in 1969 and earned a doctorate in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. Here he met jazz musicians Ornette Coleman, Jimmy Garrison, and John McLaughlin while working as a teaching assistant and concert master of the University Chamber Orchestra. In 1975 Shankar and McLaughlin founded Shakti, a pioneering, groundbreaking and highly influential east-meets-west collaboration, with a fluid sound that managed to successfully combine seemingly incompatible traditions. His first solo album, Touch Me There, was produced by Frank Zappa in 1979.[3] Shankar founded his own band - The Epidemics, in 1982, with the composer Caroline. He released three albums with the band. During the 1980s, Shankar recorded periodically as a leader, doing both jazz-based material and Indian classical music. His 1980 release of the album Who's To Know on ECM introduced the unique sound of his own invention, the ten-string, stereophonic double violin. This instrument, designed by Shankar and built by noted guitar maker Ken Parker, covers the entire orchestral range, including double bass, cello, viola and violin. He has recently developed a newer version of his instrument which is much lighter than the original.[3] 1990 saw Shankar co-producing a one hour film directed by H. O. Nazareth, which went on to be nominated for Best Documentary film at the Cannes film festival. Shankar worked on the score of the film The Last Temptation of Christ (1988),composed by Peter Gabriel, with his music ending up on both albums of the score - Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ and Passion - Sources. He won a Grammy for his work on the latter in 1994. 1996 saw a Grammy nomination for the album Raga Aberi.[1] Shankar has performed on several of Peter Gabriel's records such as So and Us. Since 1996, Shankar has toured internationally with fellow-violinist (and his niece) Gingger as "Shankar & Gingger", garnering critical acclaim and popularity.[4] The two performed at events including the Concert for Global Harmony and Nelson Mandela's 80th birthday celebrations. Shankar & Gingger released their first DVD One in a Million in 2001. After a critically successful tour of North America, the DVD went to number 1 on the Neilsen Soundscan DVD charts and stayed there for four weeks.[3] In 2004, Shankar composed additional music with Gingger Shankar for John Debney and performed on the score for the film The Passion of the Christ (2004). Shankar has played with some of the greatest musical contemporaries of his time, including Lou Reed, Echo & the Bunnymen, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Charly García, Jonathan Davis, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Stewart Copeland, Yoko Ono, A. R. Rahman, John Waite, Steve Vai, Ginger Baker, Toto, Nils Lofgren, Mark O'Connor, and Sting.[3] Shankar has been praised for his ability to mix Eastern and Western influences, assimilating Carnatic music with pop, rock, jazz and contemporary world music.[5] He admits "Ultimately, I would like to bring the East and West together. That, I think, is my role," he says. More recently, Shankar has used a new stage name, Shenkar, and has created recordings under this name. In 2006  2007, Shenkar provided the vocals for the opening credit music and other themes for all episodes of the hit TV series Heroes. He has been lately working in Jonathan Davis', Stephen Day and Ana Maria Lombo's next records.

ORIGIN OF THE ULTIMATE REMEDY
SURAH AR-RAHMAN, #55, NOBLE QUR’AN,
Ever since the revelation of The Holy Quran, the people of Islam are continuously benefiting from Its light and energy with same intensity and effect. But how to get it? In our times, there came a very noble person of a notable Syed family, Makhdoom Syed Safdar Hussain Bukhari (RA), whose initial research was on Music and Dhammaal Therapy.
He was known as Baba Bukhari (RA) among his loving followers, who strongly believe that he is the real torch bearer for the distracted and those desperately looking for light and guidance.  Baba Bukhari (RA) was a practical man, who never asked people to do something unless he had not done it himself. So he came out with a brilliant idea of curing all types of diseases through “The Qur'anic Radiations”.
He (RA) said, “every alphabet of Quran radiates light and energy in the heart and mind; provided it is listened with deeper concentration”. He gave a practical demonstration and the results were fascinating. What he did? He purchased the audio cassette of Surah “Ar-Rehman," a recitation of Qari Abdul Basit Abdul Samad. He (RA) gathered the people, directed them to close their eyes, asked them to empty their minds and feel the presence of GOD.
The cassette was then played and everyone listened to it till the end with deeper concentration. When he (RA) asked the people to open their eyes after the recitation had ended, majority were weeping, whereas a few looked absolutely stunned; only tears could be seen coming out of their eyes. Then he served every individual with a half glass of water and said, “Close your eyes, go deep into your heart and then say 'ALLAH” three times in the heart and then drink water in three sips with closed eyes”.
They did so and when he asked them to open their eyes, every one looked relaxed and comfortable. They had tasted a sweet water, which in fact was the normal tap water. Actually, absolute concentration created harmony between soul and body and all got connected to The Almighty and were eventually cured with His blessings. Now the question was, how to deliver this message to the entire humanity.
Thanks to the technology which helped in spreading the message and the same idea for the betterment of mankind was given to Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV). They instantly approved it and a pilot program with the title “Ar-Rehman” was made by the Senior Program Producer Syed Shakir Uzair (Waris-e-Qalandar). He had earlier produced QASEEDAH BURDAH SHARIF, a program which attracted millions of people and had the distinction to cure the most fatal of diseases; the paralysis.
People still use this program as a treatment for paralysis.
The pilot program (Ar-Rehman) was a successful undertaking, which gave a new dimension to the religious programs. PTV approved the pilot program and the Series was launched in January of 2001. The programs were recorded in different hospitals, villages and cities and gained tremendous viewership.
The program also included the live expressions of participants. The Qur'anic Radiation gave a new hope and life to the most dejected ones. The audience were provided with an e-mail account [email protected] and telephone numbers for sharing their experiences.
The entire experiment which was telecast, covered more than 15000 people of various ages suffering from different diseases. From headache to cancer, heart trouble to physical disability; the patients were contacted, treated and cured by the grace of “ALLAH”. All this happened on TV screen which really created a new hope and brought people out of absolute dejection.
The program also included the expressions of the leading religious scholars from all over the country who added further flavor in the program through multiple references defined in the Quran and Sunnah, the importance of Qur'anic Radiation was highlighted.
While doing the experimentation in the hospitals, the doctors also became a part of it, many of them had remarkable feelings. I remember a doctor saying, “we can only prescribe medicine, not the remedy. ‘Shifa’ is from ALLAH”. The doctors also gave references of the “Faith Healing” concepts being practiced all over the world. The program clicked and indeed it was the need of the time. Many of the hospitals installed audio system and played the recitation of Surah “Ar-Rehman”. The results were astonishing, the frequency of patients reduced and curing ratio increased, the dejected ones came to life.
The program was telecast for 6 months on the national network and was later shown on the prime TV Norway which covered a vast European population. The message continues to spread as people gather in different groups and benefit from The Ultimate Remedy.
The program also included the message of its creator, Makhdoom Bukhari (RA), “The Quran is 'Shifa," I have taken Surah “Ar-Rehman” because it has great rhythm and the recitation of Qari Abdul Basit is very soothing and effective as he has recited from the depths of his heart. The one who listens with deeper concentration, does get the benefit. All one has to do is to feel its revelation in ones heart. Always feel the presence of GOD, never be the ignorant”.
Baba Bukhari (RA) achieved what he had desired, a real service to mankind. A selfless human made worth of his life by giving a remarkable remedy to the sufferers and a guide line for the generations to follow. He did not charge a single penny from PTV for his idea and research. He believed, “Money is like a snake, it bites you and generates anxiety and depression. Once you become its victim, you are deprived of the precious wealth which is the peace of mind and heart”. GOD says, “All the Muslims are brother of one another so help your brother at the time of need”.
The Prophet HAZRAT MUHAMMAD (SallAllahu 'alaihi waSallam) said, “Choose only that thing for your brother which you prefer for your self”. So Makhdoom Baba Bukhari (RA) said, “When you are cured, give this message to your brethren, they might be needing it”. This message is the continuity of the direction well defined in the last Sermon of HAZRAT MUHAMMAD (SallAllahu 'alaihi waSallam) .

Finally the most awaited theatrical trailer of the sequel ‘Ponniyin Selvan-2’ is out in all the versions including Telugu. As expected, the trailer is on par with the first part showcasing the magnanimity and games played for the throne in the Chola Empire. The trailer opens up with the news that the Prince of Cholas, Arunmozhi has died and within no time, others who are waiting for this occasion want to conquer the throne. The elder brother Karikalan looks forward to waging a war to avenge the death of his younger brother but at the same time, the death of Arunmozhi seems to be a rumor. In parallel, Nandini awaits to kill the Warrior Aditya Karikalan to demolish the Chola empire thereby becoming the main antagonist of the film. However, the makers made their best to raise their eyebrows with the clear-cut trailer, unlike the first part which was quite confusing. All in all, the trailer increased the buzz and is all set to shatter the records set by its prequel. Produced and directed by the classy maker Mani Ratnam on his ‘Madras Talkies’ banner, this movie is bankrolled by Subhaskaranan under the ‘Lyca Productions’ banner. Oscar winner A R Rahman’s riveting background score is an added asset for this periodic entertainer. This stellar formation of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and a few stalwarts would share its celluloid visuals for movie lovers on the 28th of April, 2023 across the globe.

Colonial Cousins re-unite: Hariharan and Leslee Lewis on music, brotherhood and everything in between
As far as stories of friendships go, it’s hard to beat this one. In 1992, a talented singer named Hariharan (who had burst into the mainstream spotlight with Thamizha Thamizha for A. R Rahman’s debut album in Mani Ratnam’s Roja) met another equally-gifted composer-producer Leslee Lewis to record a jingle for the latter. A couple of hours — and an extended jam session — later, began one of the…

*First song of Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh- Out Now!*
Link:
Rajkumar Santoshi’s Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh has been constantly making headlines since the first look of the film came out. The unique concept of opposite ideologies shared by Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi has become a talking point for many, across the nation. After dropping an engrossing and captivating trailer, the makers of the film have now unveiled their first song- Vaishnav Jan To.
The song ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ is composed by supremely talented A R Rahman and was originally written by Late Narsinh Mehta. The song is presented by Jackky Bhagnani’s record label JJust music and sung in the melodious voice of Shreya Ghoshal. The song touches the emotional chords in your heart and also raises the emotion of patriotism at the same time.
Speaking about the song, A R Rahman mentioned, “Rajkumar Sir is a legend and working on a music for him was a great experience. Vaishnav Jan To is also one of the special songs because it was Gandhi Ji’s favourite. This song brought a sense of peace whenever I worked on it and I am sure it will bring the same peace and love in the hearts of my audience as well.”
Tanisha Santoshi shared, “Everything about Gandhi Godse is a treasure I will always cherish. Vaishnav Jan To was my first song. Since it is in the Gujarati language I had to prep for it days in advance. Also, there was an added pressure of the legendary singer Shreya Ghoshal ma'am lending me her vocals along with AR Rahman's sir's music so I had to give it my best. The song didn't have any dance steps obviously so I had to make it as expressive as possible through my emotions and eyes. But all in all, it was an exhilarating experience for me.”
Santoshi Productions LLP Presents A PVR Pictures Release, Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Music by AR Rahman, Produced by Manila Santoshi. Releasing in cinemas On 26th JANUARY 2023

Learn how you can download any mp3 song free
How to download famous Bollywood songs
Streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music allow users to download songs for offline listening.
Users can also download songs from music downloading websites such as Saavn, Gaana, and Hungama.
Some Bollywood songs can also be found on file-sharing platforms such as torrents, but it is illegal to download copyrighted material from these websites.
Many artists and bands also release their music on their own websites, which can be downloaded directly from the site.
Which quality song is best for listening
The quality of a song that is best for listening depends on the listener's preference and listening equipment. For high-quality audio, a lossless audio format such as FLAC or ALAC is considered to be the best as it preserves all the audio information from the original recording. These files are typically large in size and may require more storage space on your device.
For a balance between sound quality and file size, an uncompressed audio format such as WAV or AIFF can be a good choice.
If file size is a concern and you're looking to save storage space on your device, a compressed audio format such as MP3 or AAC can be a good option. These formats use algorithms to remove certain parts of the audio that are considered to be inaudible to the human ear, resulting in smaller file sizes.
It's worth noting that some people might not be able to tell the difference between high-quality and lower-quality audio, and the quality of the audio can also depend on the listening equipment and environment.

What's LOTR the musical like? The only stage adaptation I've seen is the 2018 Turun Kaupunginteatteri one (I lowkey envy my mom, she's seen two different stage adaptations, one of which is the previously mentioned 2018 one, and the other being the 80s Ryhmäteatteri one she went to see as a teen)
First of all, thank you so much for introducing me to these two Finnish adaptations! I haven't found much for Ryhmäteatteri's (only that it was 6 hours long), but Turun Kaupunginteatteri's looks AMAZING!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feel free to share your thoughts on this show with me! I'd love to hear more about it. Sadly, my knowledge of Finnish is limited. Your mum is so lucky!
-
As for The Lord of the Rings: On Stage ('the' LotR musical), it's a spectacle. It's far more artistically elaborate than what first comes to mind when you hear 'musical', in terms of costumes/props, set, choreography, music and cast. It was expensive as hell to produce, so 2006 Toronto and 2007/08 West End were the only two productions ever to see the light of day.
'What's it like?' you ask me, who can't ever shut up about it. I'll do my best to give you a quick overview of what you can read/watch for an impression of what it looked and sounded like. (beware: I haven't seen it - my opinions are just based on video clips, interviews, bootlegs, and other people's opinions!)
Music
Without a doubt one of the best features of the show. It was composed partly by Värttinä, a Finnish band, partly by A. R. Rahman, an Indian composer, and coordinated/supervised by Christopher Nightingale. Even though the musical isn't sung-through, large parts of the dialogue and action have music playing in the background, and it's used a lot for special effects. You can check out the London Cast Recording here, and if you're interested, I can send you the full piano+vocal score as well. My favourite songs are Lothlorien, Now and For Always, and Wonder.
Set/Stage/Costumes
Here's what you saw when you arrived in the auditorium of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (West End):

Here's the stage during the Lothlorien scene (check out this video):

During many fight scenes, the elaborate rotating stage looked like this:

Here are the main characters in their usual attire (l-r Gollum, Sam, Legolas, Frodo, Gandalf (the White), Gimli, Black Rider, Arwen, Boromir):

Bonus: Galadriel, Arwen&Aragorn, Pippin&Merry with Ents:

Plot/Length
Originally, it ran for 3h 45mins, but they eventually cut it down to 2h 45min. Obviously, they had to leave out 'major?' plot points like Rohan (still existent in Toronto) and Caradhras, and (obviously) Tom Bombadil. In my opinion, it works. Having too many battles would tire the audience even more considering what's still there: Black Riders, orcs, balrog, Shelob, Sauron, Saruman.
Critical opinion
The show received mostly negative to mixed reviews. Critics agree that it was just TOO MUCH. Too many effects, too many characters, too long. The script was weak in many places.
BUT: almost every person I've spoken to who saw it enjoyed it and would see it again. I often hear something like 'it was a mess, and I loved every second of it'. Major points of criticism are again the script, Aragorn's and Gandalf's characterisations, and the direction.
Discussions
See my tags #lotr musical and #lord of the rings musical!
I've compiled all relevant information regarding the Lord of the Rings musical in this masterpost and my tags #lotr musical and #lord of the rings musical! Feel free to check them out. Alternatively, here's a trailer (more like: clip compilation)! You can message me/send asks about it any time.

Apollo 11 brought a message of peace to the Moon - but Neil and Buzz almost forgot to leave it behind
by Michelle L.D. Hanlon
Tumblr media
President Richard M. Nixon welcomes the Apollo 11 astronauts aboard the USS Hornet, the recovery ship for the mission, where they are quarantined. From left to right: Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin. NASA
“How about that package out of your sleeve? Get that?” is certainly not the most famous phrase uttered by a human while on the Moon. And the items nestled in a small packet that astronaut Buzz Aldrin had stowed in the pocket just below the shoulder of his extravehicular mobility unit were certainly not mission critical. They were sentimental objects, intended to be left on the Moon purely for symbolic and commemorative purposes.
Tumblr media
Apollo 15 astronauts David R. Scott and James B. Irwin left a commemorative plaque on the Moon in memory of 14 NASA astronauts and USSR cosmonauts. The tiny, man-like object represents the figure of a fallen astronaut/cosmonaut. NASA
More than one hundred sites
You may be surprised to learn that a partial catalog of human-made objects on the Moon fills more than 20 single-spaced pages. There are more than a hundred sites on the Moon with evidence of human activity. The sites contain materials from the European Space Agency, Japan, India, Russia, China and the United States. Not only do these sites contain ongoing experiments, they hold invaluable data. For example, engineers are hoping to examine these materials to determine how they have fared after continuous exposure to the elevated radiation levels on the Moon. Along with scientific equipment, robotic landers and other objects left behind to lighten the load for the return home, there are a number of memorial and tributary items.
But perhaps most important, these varied objects, and their position on the lunar surface, alone can reveal the true story of humanity’s history on the Moon. A chronicle which celebrates the persistence and passion of hundreds and of thousands of scientists, engineers and aviators throughout human history who have supported the effort to “slip the surly bonds of Earth” and reach the stars.
I am not a historian. I am a space lawyer and have made it my mission to develop the laws we need to protect historic artifacts and sites in space. I co-founded For All Moonkind, the only organization in the world dedicated to preserving human heritage in outer space, to assure that archaeologists, historians, scientists and tourists are given the opportunity to learn the valuable lessons of our past.
Messages of peace
Buzz Aldrin and fellow Moonwalker Neil Armstrong chose to go to the Moon with an Apollo 1 patch. It was selected to honor the ultimate sacrifice of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee, who perished in a fire during the first test of the Apollo command and service module. The astronauts also chose to remember their fallen Soviet competitors and carried with them two Soviet medals, honoring cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov, who died in the Soyuz 1 spacecraft in 1967 and Yuri Gagarin, the first man to orbit the Earth, who was killed in an aircraft in 1968. Aldrin and Armstrong understood that even as Americans raced the Soviets to the Moon, success would be shared by all.
That’s why they also carried a small gold olive branch – a global symbol of peace – and a silicon disk about the size of a United States half dollar. Inscribed on this disk in microscopic text are messages from the president of the United States and leaders of other 73 nations solicited by Thomas Paine, then head of NASA. The messages, intended to be left on the Moon for posterity, are poignant, proud and congratulatory. Some speak of their own national heritage, others salute the courage of the three humans who strapped themselves into a rocket and catapulted into the unknown. From Afghanistan to Zambia, the messages have one common theme: peace.
Tumblr media
The Apollo 11 lunar module shows the stainless steel dedication plaque. The signatures are of the three Apollo 11 crew members and President Richard Nixon. NASA
Neil Armstrong’s favorites
According to his biographer, James Hansen, Neil Armstrong identified three favorite messages. The president of Costa Rica hoped the Moon landing would produce “new benefits for improving the well-being of the human race.” The king of the Belgians remained “deeply conscious of our responsibility with respect to the tasks which may be open to us in the universe, but also to those which remain to be fulfilled on this Earth, so to bring more justice and more happiness to mankind.” Finally, the president of the Ivory Coast asked that the first human messengers to the Moon “turn towards our planet Earth and cry out how insignificant the problems which torture men are, when viewed from up there.”
I personally find the message of the president of Mexico rather prescient as he noted “in 1492, the discovery of the American Continent transformed geography and the course of human events. Today, conquest of ultraterrestrial space – with its attendant unknowns – recreates our perspectives and enhances our paradigms.” He went on to remind that human migration to space carries with it “a new far reaching responsibility.”
Tumblr media
The figure shows a gold replica of an olive branch, a traditional symbol of peace, an Apollo 1 patch and a silicon message disk. NASA
Forgotten?
Space historian Tahir Rahman, who has published an award-winning book that tells the full story of the Messages of Peace, recounts that Aldrin and Armstrong nearly forgot to leave the disc and other mementos on the lunar surface. Indeed, according to NASA records and transcripts, it wasn’t until the Moonwalkers were climbing back into their spacecraft for the return journey to Earth when they realized their oversight. At the last minute, the disc was tossed from the ladder and settled in the regolith without pomp or circumstance. Once in the capsule, Armstrong verified that “the disk with messages was placed on the surface as planned.”
The mystery is not that these busy astronauts almost forgot to leave the disc behind. After all they were pretty occupied being the first humans to set foot on the Moon. I think it is strange that the two most popular films about Apollo 11 released in the last year, “First Man” and “Apollo 11,” make no mention of the disc and its moving and hope-filled messages.
On July 20, 1969, the world united to celebrate the most remarkable technological achievement in human experience. And in that celebration, our leaders focused on our common hope for peace. This is the lesson of humanity’s effort to reach the Moon. I believe this is the history that we must embrace. It is our responsibility to explore space in peace, together as a species.
Let’s not forget, or forsake, the lessons of our past. The first step is to protect the sites which chronicle our history on the Moon. And hopefully, along the way we can recapture the goodwill that Neil and Buzz left behind.

THE MIRACLES OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (pbuh) : Seventh sign.Part1
We will give in this Sign a few examples from among the Prophet’s (PBUH) miracles that relate to his effecting increase in food and that are definite to the degree of ‘consensus in meaning.’ But before going into the subject, some introductory comments will be appropriate.
I n t r o d u c t i o n
Each of the following examples of miracles is narrated, as authentic, through various sometimes as many as sixteen chains of transmission. Most of them occurred in the presence of large assemblies, and were narrated by many truthful persons of good repute from among those present. For example, from among seventy men who partook of four handfuls of food and were filled, one relates the incident, and the others do not contradict him. Their silence thus indicates their confirmation. For if in that era of truth and truthfulness the Companions, who were lovers of the truth and earnest and honest, had witnessed even the tiniest lie, they would have rejected and denied it. But the incidents we will be citing were narrated by many, and the others who witnessed them remained silent. Thus, each of these incidents has the certainty of ‘consensus in meaning.’
Furthermore, books of both history and the Prophet’s biography testify that, next to the preservation of the Qur’an and its verses, the Companions worked with all their strength to preserve the deeds and words of God’s Most Noble Messenger (Upon whom be blessings and peace), and especially those relating to the injunctions of the Shari‘a and to miracles, paying extreme attention to their accuracy.
They never neglected even the tiniest aspect of his conduct, actions, and states. This and the fact that they recorded them is testified to by books of Hadith. In addition, in the Era of Bliss, they wrote down and recorded very many of the Hadiths concerning the injunctions of the Law and his miracles. The ‘Seven ‘Abd Allah’s’ in particular recorded them in writing. And especially ‘Abd Allah b. al-‘Abbas, known as ‘the Interpreter of the Qur’an,’ and ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Amr b. al-‘As some thirty to forty years later, and the thousands of exacting scholars of the generation that followed the Companions recorded the Hadiths and miracles in writing. And still later, chiefly the four great interpreters of the Law and thousands of exacting scholars of Hadith related them and preserved them in writing. Then two hundred years after the Hijra, foremost Bukhari and Muslim and the six accepted books of tradition, undertook the duty of their preservation.
Many severe critics such as Ibn al-Jawzi emerged who identified false reports which had been produced by deniers, the unthinking, the ignorant, or those who had recalled them wrongly. Later, learned and exacting scholars like Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti, who seventy times was honoured in a waking state by the presence and conversation of God’s Noble Messenger (PBUH), differentiated the diamonds of authentic traditions from other sayings and fabrications. Thus, the incidents and miracles we shall speak of, have come down to us through numerous, perhaps uncountable, strong and trustworthy hands, and have reached us in sound condition. All praise be to God, this is from the bounty of my Lord.It is for this reason that one’s mind should be freed from the notion that these incidents have been distorted or confused in any way in being passed down all the way from that time to the present. The First Example of definite miracles concerning the Prophet’s increase of food through his blessing.
The six accurate books of tradition, Bukhari and Muslim included, unanimously relate that during the feast on the occasion of the Prophet’s (PBUH) marriage to Zaynab, Anas’s mother, Umm Sulaym, prepared a dish by frying two handfuls of dates in oil and sent it with Anas to the Prophet. The Noble Prophet told him: “Go and invite so-and-so [naming some persons], and also invite whomever you encounter on your way.” Anas invited those named and those he met. About three hundred Companions came and filled the Prophet’s room and anteroom. Then the Prophet said: “Make circles of ten.” He placed his blessed hand on that little amount of food, uttered supplications, and told them to help themselves. All of them ate and was fully satisfied. Afterwards the Prophet asked Anas to remove the food. Anas later related: “I could not tell if there was more of it when I set it down, or when I removed it.”
S e c o n d E x a m p l e : Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the Prophet’s host, relates that when the Noble Prophet (Upon whom be blessings and peace) honoured his house, he had prepared a meal for two, which would suffice the Prophet and Abu Bakr. But the Prophet told him: “Invite thirty men from among the distinguished Ansar!” Abu Ayyub said: “Thirty men came and ate. He then said: ‘Invite sixty men,’ which I did, and they also came and ate. The Prophet said again: ‘Invite seventy more.’ I invited them; they came, and when they finished eating, there was still food left in the bowls. All who came embraced Islam and took the oath of allegiance after witnessing this miracle. One hundred and eighty men ate the food of two men.”
T h i r d E x a m p l e : It is reported through many chains of transmission from ‘Umar b. al-Khattab, Abu Hurayra, Salama b. Akwa‘, Abu ‘Amrat al-Ansari and others that on one expedition, the army went hungry. They referred themselves to the Noble Prophet (Upon whom be blessings and peace), and he told them:
“Gather whatever food is left in your saddle-bags.” Everyone brought a few pieces of dates and put them on a mat. The most they could put together was four handfuls. Salama related: “I estimated it amounted to the size of a sitting goat.” Then the Noble Messenger (Upon whom be blessings and peace) announced: “Everyone bring his dish!” They pressed forward, and no one in the whole army remained with an empty dish, all the dishes were filled. There was even some left over. One of the Companions later said: “I realized from the way that increase was obtained that if the whole world had come, the food still would have been sufficient.”
F o u r t h E x a m p l e : As recorded in all of the Six Books including Bukhari and Muslim, ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq relates: “We, one hundred and thirty Companions, were with the Noble Messenger (Upon whom be blessings and peace) on an expedition. Dough was prepared to the amount of about four handfuls, a goat was slaughtered and cooked, and its liver and kidneys were roasted. I swear by God that from that roasted meat [liver and kidneys] God’s Messenger gave a small piece to each and put the cooked meat into two large bowls. After we had all eaten until we were filled there was still some left over, which I loaded onto a camel.”
