I have ADHD-C (I meet 16/18 requirements...life's GREAT). I'm 23, disagnosed when I was 6, and the one major thing I've seen from doctors and others with ADHD is that routines are life-savers. But I CANNOT for the LIFE of me stick to/make a routine - *any* routine: morning, evening, weekend chores; ones I've created, ones other ADHD-ers and experts have suggested, etc. The longest I've made it following any sort of routine is 3 days, and then it all just...falls apart. I've tried everything too, alarms, checklists, and nothing ever lasts. Reward systems also have no effect on me whatsoever. So, I'm just wondering if any of you have any tips or suggestions or advice on how to...idk... find a good way to make a schedule or routine that I don't immediately get bored of and fall back into the abyss of executive dysfunction? I hope this makes sense.. please help a girl out

ADHDers, I need your help!
I’m starting a blog on ADHD because I need something for my college applications for my journalism degree, and ADHD is my hyperfixation so it will be fairly easy to write about. What are some things that you guys would like to learn about in terms of ADHD? Keep in mind that this blog is going to be made for people with ADHD, and while it can help people without, it’s not really intended for them. I want this to be about us. I want to help you guys learn how your disorder works and how to work with it instead of against it. What are things you guys have trouble with? What symptoms do you want to learn about? What would help you to read about? I’ve had this hyperfixation for well over 2 years so I know a lot about ADHD and I would love to be able to help others while taking steps in my career! please boost and comment topics you would be interested in learning about!!
edit: also if you think of any cool names for it please comment those too!!

If we can only focus on one thing at a time, why is it that I have to have two different inputs most of the time? Can’t watch TV/a movie without being on my phone, can’t read without background music etc
From this article in ADDitude:
Experts believe that engaging in an activity that uses a sense other than what’s required for your primary task — listening to music while reading a social studies textbook, for example — can enhance focus and improve performance in children with attention deficit disorder.
These secondary tasks are called fidgets — mindless activities you can do while working on a primary task.
You can see it like you’re using the secondary task to quieten the hyperactive/ dis tractable aspects of own brains.
And also, the human mind can only focus on one thing at a time. No one can actually multi-task.. its just even worse for ADHDers.

SHOUT OUT TO @abcsofadhd BECAUSE YOURE SUPER AWESOME DUDE
I've learned FAR more about ADHD from your blog than any doctor has ever told me and I really SUPER appreciate you making info on ADHD so readily available!!!!
So many more things make sense, especially knowing about RSD now. I feel like that made one of the biggest differences tbh. Idk if other ADHDers have this too, but most of the time after I have logically gone through and dismantled something I'm upset or feel guilty about, I'll still have random intense bouts of anxiety/weird upset feelings and it makes me think that there's something I forgot about the situation and that all of my logic is flawed and I should REALLY FEEL BAD ABOUT IT BC ITS ALL MY FAULT. But now that I know about the whole emotional dysregulation thing and rsd, I'm able to remind myself that my intense spikes of bad feeling bc of a past situation don't mean that my subconscious is trying to remind me of some horrible thing I did and forgot, it just means that my brain reacts more intensely than other people's when recalling a bad experience. And that's pretty comforting, although I'm still working on it.
Idk if any of that made any sense, but I just wanted to sort of explain how learning more about ADHD has helped me be more cognizant of my reactions and stuff.
ANYWAYS THANKS A WHOLE BUNCH I LOVE YOUR BLOG AND STUFF AND YOURE AWESOME
Kthxbye

@abcsofadhd replied to your post “So... I have ADD since ever and now Im in college (Medicine Faculty,...”
I want to note that many countries around the world still use 'ADD' (eg, those who follow the ICD manual)
Oh, I didn’t know that! I’m from the US, so most of my knowledge comes from the DSM. Thanks for letting me know! I updated the ask.

Loving this blog and thank you so much for the content! I have not received a formal diagnosis of ADHD, and it's truly thanks to Tumblr that I can even recognize neurodivergence present in myself. Have you encountered any particular posts or blogs that are self-inquiry and diagnosis friendly?
I don't feel the call to connect with a doctor at this time, yet I would like to continue figuring myself out in ways that do not offend or take away from others who do/have. Basically I want to respectfully explore wtf is going on with me without being directed to a doctor.
@abcsofadhd is a blog a bit like mine, and they’re great. I don’t really know of any other informational blogs, because... I don’t know if there just isn’t many or if I don’t really interact with them.
But if you want to talk to other people with ADHD, you’re welcome to join my ADHD discord server! Click here to join.

how can i explain sensory overload to someone who doesnt understand it?
I found this good article with a bunch of examples, eg,
“It’s like when your computer freezes because there are too many tasks open or a task is stuck. And your brain hits ‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ automatically. In my case, this means sudden fatigue, balance problems, speaking problems, disorientation.”
“It’s like being underwater at the beach while the waves wash away your thoughts. You’re struggling to catch a breath, but every time you are able to reach the surface, you are struck by another wave and you can’t organize a coherent thought. You can’t get on top of it and you start to panic.”

abcsofadhd replied to your post “Maybe you and we(your followers) can try to find some other adhd blogs...”
I think you do a fantastic job tbh. You're a role model for people your age. You don't have to answer questions for people much older than you, I and the many many ADHD blogs are here for that. I've turned off my asks cause I have too many to answer but if theres any question thats important, just tag me and I can answer it :)
god this is why youre the best danny. i stopped being active on your discord ages ago but youre still the best.
also i never said this but i finally realised a while back what you meant by ‘i cant believe you answer all your asks’
the endless cycle of if you answer an ask you get two more

How to sleep with brain that won’t shut up?
The thing that has helped me the most is listening to music or a podcast I have listened too before! I usually pick something I am already familiar with so I don’t get too interested and refuse to fall asleep. I started doing that after seeing this fantastic post by @abcsofadhd, so all credit to them for this idea!

ADHD Culture Is officially open for business!
Rules:
- I'm a minor. Don't be weird, keep everything SFW.
- Bigotry is an excellent way to earn blocks. In this house we respect all races, religions, and orientations.
-Begin all submissions/asks with "ADHD culture is" (or a more specific variant).
Other housekeeping:
- I will be checking in to queue posts once a week at minimum (barring extraordinary circumstances).
- This blog is for ADHD culture. For questions about ADHD, @abcsofadhd is likely to be more helpful. Personal questions can be directed to my main @varda-ruunaser-alighieri.
I hope you enjoy your time here!

Hi Joy! sorry to ask a sill question but what is an adhd reward system? I am currently waiting to be diagnosed (it's been 2 years on a waiting list) and have not found a therapist who is any good at ahd in my little town, any advice?
Long post incoming! And I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling to find someone. There’s always the chance of finding a therapist willing to work online or an ADHD coach. It used to not be that common, but I think apps like BetterHelp maybe made them realize “shit this is a thing people need”, and I’m seeing it crop up more and more. Just make sure they’re licensed (info should be on their websites) and they use HIPAA (or country equivalent) compliant apps to host the calls. Skype doesn’t count. There’s also the route of self-help and trying to do as much on your own as you can, which is what I did for a long ass time.
Good books I have found useful have been:
Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD by Susan Pinsky
You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!: The Classic Self-Help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorderby Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo
Driven to Distraction by Edward Hallowell.
There’s also lots of great people online such as:
Jessica McCabe who has an awesome twitter and youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/howtoadhd
Eryn Brook on twitter https://twitter.com/ErynnBrook
Danny from ABCs of ADHD who also has a youtube linked in their twitter bio https://twitter.com/ABCsofADHD
And then someone that my friend @finnglas only made me aware of the other day, who is René Brooks from https://blackgirllostkeys.com/ and who so far I’ve been enjoying their twitter feed, https://twitter.com/blkgirllostkeys
I hope some of this is useful to you and I’m not just repeating info and sources you already have. Best of luck and take care!
