Something I made in a post that I think'll be lost in the texts + expanded a bit more
Tumblr media
These panels are chronological events following AFO's pursuit of Yoichi's Factor.
AFO could tell if people were related through a Quirk. AFO and OFA also are connected to each other. In Kamino, AFO could confidently tell All Might that OFA had been passed on, so all that All Might had left were leftover embers.
When AFO killed Kudo, he asked where Yoichi was. He knew Kudo wasn't the holder of Yoichi's Factor at that time. He also realized when looking at Yoichi's hand that Yoichi's natural Factor was so weak he hadn't registered its existence. This implies AFO could sense Factors since he was young, and Yoichi's natural Factor never stood out to him.
Below are three panels of Bruce (right to left). Bruce fought, AFO killed him, and looked away in disinterest.
Tumblr media
When he beat down Bruce, he already had a sense that Bruce didn't hold the Factor anymore. That's why, rather than yell in his face to figure out where it is and interrogate for a long time, he pulled up his corpse to inspect him better.
Bruce's corpse isn't resisting anything. Look at his feet; AFO literally dragged him. Bruce is already dead. Yet he's looking for something from him.
Bruce doesn't have anything for him. Nothing AFO wants.
When he looks away, he's dismissing Bruce, because Bruce doesn't hold Yoichi. AFO is wondering where Yoichi is, because he knows now that he's out there somewhere. Thus the pensive look to the wind.
Tumblr media
After Bruce is killed, AFO and Garaki meet for the first time. Shinomori has Yoichi at this time, and AFO never comes close to him, so AFO is lost. He doesn't have any leads, and Yoichi has vanished.
Now that he knows Yoichi can transfer, it's possible for Yoichi to be kept out of his reach for the rest of his life. So meeting Garaki and having access to Life Force gives AFO more time to search.
Yoichi is still missing for 18 years though, because Shinomori is in hiding. AFO couldn't find him during the Fourth's turn.
Tumblr media
This is why, when he encounters Banjo, the Fifth and active wielder of OFA [Yoichi], AFO is smiling.
It's been a long time, but Yoichi's in reach again. He knows where he is now. And this is the first time he's encountered the current holder.
Thus his shock.
Tumblr media
[Yet... you never behave as I wish.]
It was the first time a Quirk wouldn't let itself be stolen. This was AFO's first encounter with this wall: it doesn't transfer without the holder's consent, and requires willpower stronger than all the holders combined to override that.
The holder is never going to give him that consent. To override the collective willpower, he's going to need something greater.
Meanwhile, look at Banjo's arms. Shinomori is the catalyst to tip OFA over the edge, that an unprepared vessel will be destroyed by how strong the Quirk is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Banjo's arms are both messed up below the shoulder, just like Midoriya used to be. And like Midoriya uses Blackwhip to reinforce himself and stay standing, Banjo uses Blackwhip to hold his fist / arm together. His hand is being wrapped to stay in a fist.
Tumblr media
(What I think is) The reason the limbs turn red, and then purple, from breakage, is a matter of blood vessels. Small, itty bitty, fragile things.
Tumblr media
Using OFA breaks the whole area, from bones to blood vessels, causing internal bleeding. Thus the redness. But breaking those vessels again in a second go turns the area purple, because it causes instantaneous internal bruising.
But En wasn't ripped apart by using OFA. There's a cut on his thumb that lines up with the path of destruction; AFO sliced him in half. Otherwise, he wouldn't have that cut if it were just OFA.
Tumblr media
It's hidden by the text in [... you never behave as I wish], but depending on where you see this chapter, you can see he got cut on the thumb. It's clearer where we see Nana take his hair from him, in [I only want... to make you mine!]
I have a post in drafts about En being cut in half rather than it being because of OFA, but I also hit an image limit, so I'm gonna end here. Ta.

hello !! i'm completely in love with your blog and your writing. i was reading some posts and I found one in which you said that you have your own headcanon for henry's family relationship!! would you care to expand more on that ? i'll love to know
thank you for the interest! i would love to elaborate more on that. as a preface, however, i need to emphasize that my headcanon is very much non-canon-compliant and beyond acknowledging this fully, i'm completely okay with that. i happen to possess that transcendental degree of dogmatic arrogance that makes me think my opinions are superior to anyone else's, even if they defy canon. i'm establishing this to prevent anyone telling me that this is in any way wrong, because to me, it isn't. this is what makes most sense to me, personally. it is based on canon, but does reject it very early on. here goes.
first of all, i believe henry's father to be dead. in fact, i would even go as far as saying that his father passed very early on in his life — in henry's infancy, even. early enough for henry to barely remember him. this would be due to a large age gap between his parents. i definitely see his mother as more of a scandalously young and mysterious widow, desolate with a child on her hands drowning in all that wealth she isn't particularly used to.
in this context, i want to add that i think his mother stems from a penniless background. because henry himself is notoriously described to be carrying himself like an old ballerina, i believe his mother to have been one. before ever getting married and having henry, i see her as an aspiring ballerina trying to establish herself in the dancing world at a young age, but simply not having the sufficient means for that. her future husband on the other hand — henry's father — would have that new money quality of not caring much who he marries, specifically in regard to social status — he would see a pretty face, and knowing that that face is after money and status, would propose marriage to her simply based on the fact that he can offer her that. henry's mother couldn't refuse, even if the man was many, many years her senior, not her type whatsoever, and not someone she ever envisioned herself with — she would be too goal-driven and ambitious for that (which she would pass on to her son). therefore, she would marry him, and thereby enter a marriage of convenience, of exchange: the wealthy new money tycoon gets to have eye/arm candy, and the aspiring young ballerina from a penniless background gets the money and connections she so desperately needs.
however, i see henry's father as being very restrictive and controlling, even erratic. maddened by the accumulation of his wealth — a rags-to-riches story that ends with an egomaniac man who feels entitled to everything and everyone. therefore, even after promising not to, he would prohibit his wife from partaking in her greatest passion and confine her to their house and 'womanly duties' instead. he would cruelly get off on keeping her cooped up, like a bird in a cage — something he can fully possess just because he can afford to. even if the marriage wouldn't be long, it would certainly be long enough for the spark henry's mother would harbor in regard to dancing to be completely snuffed out.
even with the canonical idea of henry being his mother's favorite and sort of a mama's boy, i just cannot see that. maybe it's my own trauma. i fully envision his mother to never have wanted him in the first place. i can imagine her rich tyrant of a husband wanting an heir, and her trying her absolute best not to get pregnant by him — partly as revenge, partly out of the want to never give him children, and partly out of the hope to continue dancing one day (and we know what ballet culture is like when it comes to body image, unfortunately). nevertheless, she would get pregnant. she wouldn't want it, though, but would be forced to keep it. that would inevitably result in henry, the sullen only child. as a token of her affiliation with a man most conniving and restrictive, she would therefore never find it in herself to love her son. he would pose a constant reminder of her restrictive marriage and her consecutive inability to ever dance again, driven by her own insecurities and doubt.
henry's father would pass away early on, only a few years into his son's life. the death would certainly pose an alleviation to henry's mother, but she would never be able to go back to her old life, nor establish the life she so badly wanted with the money and the connection her marriage provided her with. she would raise her son, support him after the accident, never spare any costs to offer him the most privileged and beneficial of lives, but would never give him an abundancy of affection and attention. she wouldn't neglect him per se, but wouldn't be overly present and loving to him, either. this is what makes the most sense to me in regard to how he grew up, who he grew up to be. based on his behavioral pattern — and i don't want to diagnose him with anything as i lack any authority to do so — you just know some childhood trauma must have played a role in his development, even beyond being in an accident and therefore bedridden for years. there's got to be more. negligence, coldness, abandonment, loss, lack of affection. i don't think he had anyone ever truly caring for him growing up, which is why he never learned to do so. the tutors and the doctors and the nurses were only paid to be kind to him and spend time with him, which led him to believe that bribes could solve anything.
i don't see him as an outwardly loved child, as saddening as it sounds. as a result, he wouldn't try to get attention — he would just emotionally shut down, morph into his stoic self, give up on affection as a whole, build a steel wall around himself, develop a hyperfixation on classic studies to redirect his attention elsewhere. he would find solace in his studies above all. his mother, of course, would sort of love him in her own way — he will have grown on her profusely due to his dismissive and cold nature, as she would otherwise selfishly hate it most if he grew up to be an affection-seeking, overly clingy child and would therefore make her feel bad for not being able to cater to him in that way. due to the opposite outcome, however, she would be more fond of him, but only in his later teen and adult years. hell, i would even go as far as saying she will have loved him most on the days leading up to his death, and she will absolutely love him more than she ever did only after his passing. and yet, she would never be free. even with her husband and her son gone, she would never feel liberated, and remain constantly confined in her previously established role instead.
but this is just a rough overview. i could write novels upon novels about this, though. i bear the most vivid of images in my head in regard to this. oh, and i believe his mother's name to be marlene marchbanks. marlene winter after marriage. she will have given her maiden name to henry as a middle. and that is mostly it. once again, thank you for inquiring. there is nothing i treasure more than a platform to announce and develop my thoughts, and have at least one person interested in them.

Promised Neverland
Other name: Tech-zine future (inspired by July '97 edition of WIRED [picture] [link to read])
Main interest - Retro-Futurism, Cyberpradism
Related/Similar to the genres/aesthetics of Vaporwave, Y2K, Cyberpunk and those sorts -
Wonderland, Cyberparadism, Global Village Coffeehouse and Hauntology - among others -
This aesthetics talks about idea of "what could have been", "what we lost", even incorporating in talks those terms of "look what they took away from you".
Speaking of general "vibe", we are in-between on terms of: Dark Academia, sometimes Bastardcore - Mallgoth. Also might vary between Utopian scholastic, and/or cassette futurism (and others).
Talking of Hauntology - PNL can make us look over for "what went wrong/what could be//get better", this is, speaking figuratively. Human imagination, in these forms, presents to us, "what could have been's" - world envisioned: in 10, 50, 100, 500 years. Many projects and arts envisioned our "future"s, now long-gone (1800s, 1900s, 1950s-1980s ~ y2k).
Idealised future (now past) can consist of:
Topics: pro-freedom hackers, cyberpunk, "long bloom", "promised 80s neverland", (once upon a time-space - Barrille) futures; human-library-utopic, free world, calm, pre-9/11 dreams (y2k), new ways-opportunities-progress, tech = (as) saviour, "gay space free commie", unity-community-mutual help-understanding, econ. boom, "kids are alright"/no real deal, small media-only, man vs himself/bad habits (spooks?), theories of mind and research (everything is relative > no meaning, or value > nihilism); slow steady steps, new school(s) of thought, "kids = (are) future", "we build this city"/people-first, man-gov collab. ~mutual help/or, liberation...

imo anti-intellectualism doesn't just mean reacting against academic language or "having enough of experts" it also means crucially reacting hostilely to attempts to learn or to make ideas and knowledge accessible.
what I mean is if somebody explains something in simple language and your response is to call them stupid for doing so, or, more commonly, to mock people for needing a common language explanation, you're not fucking helping.
part of tackling anti-intellectualism and wilful ignorance is making learning and understanding accessible and rewarding. widening the conceptual gap between Academia and The Regular Man just encourages the idea that academic thought is elitist, irrelevant or untrustworthy. the counter to anti-intellectualism is academic accessibility.
(that doesn't mean 'everything should be understandable to everyone' or 'nobody should be using technical language or highly complex ideas' bc things like technical language and specialist conversations and academic communication exist for a reason and help move things along with specificity and depth.
and yeah some people still just have no interest in learning and will get mad about not being invited to a conversation they have no interest in.
but. the minute you start sneering at people for not having heard of an idea or not yet having figured out how to understand it, or talking shit about attempts to make knowledge more broadly accessible and comprehensible, you are not on the side of knowledge. that's all bb thanks 😘)
#red said#academia is a skillset#effective communication is also a skillset and they very often don't overlap and that's fine!#but don't get shitty about the fact that both are needed#it's not anti intellectual to suggest that people should have some sort of incentive to learn#it should be satisfying and interesting not a slog. it should reward learning not punish ignorance#if somebody is saying in good faith 'i don't understand this' that's fantastic! Now you both get to learn about it!#anyway yeah this is about the people rbing the critical theory post and 'agreeing' with me by calling ppl misusing the terms stupid#when is very obvious from the notes that most people using these terms wrongly legitimately have no idea where they come from#and that's not a case of incuriosity it's that they were offered a definition (through a game of telephone) and origin (socials/fandom)#that make sense as a complete story. there are terms that spring up organically in social media analysis.#both the definitions 'dota is miku made this' and 'male gaze is when men find thing sexy' make sense#as complete and coherent definitions#it's not. STUPID. to not know that those are incorrect origins and definitions. especially when they're in consistent common use.#it's not stupidity to be plausibly misinformed and everyone does it. including the highest flying academics.#and the antidote to misinformation and misunderstanding is clear and accessible explanation#not to say HEY LOOK AT THIS DUMB IDIOT WHO IS WRONG AND CARES NOT FOR TRUTH

skeptic fucking hates christmas and anything related to it. this includes: basic joy around the holidays, gift giving, any vague mention of santa, all of christmas media (especially hallmark movies), and while he doesn’t mind decorating too much, he hates the red, green, and gold, glittery color scheme that the holiday may bring!

That smile that Bruce has in his final moments really make me think he already passed OFA and already knew his successor was going to strengthen the quirk rather than fight straight away. So he knew the quirk would be safe and they had some advantage over afo
Tumblr media
Yeah, he did pass it on before fighting AFO; every OFA wielder managed to pass it on before their death by AFO's hand. Only Banjo and En (excluding All Might and Midoriya) still held it when they fought AFO, so Bruce would've been like the others: fighting with the Ability/Quirk already passed on.
For reference, the excerpt from that volume extra with Banjo's face on it;
"All the predecessors besides the Fourth were indeed killed by All For One, but each one managed to pass on the Quirk before their death."
All For One killed them. But they passed on the Quirk before they faced him.
But also, Shinomori went into hiding to avoid society, I don't think he'd actually join the fight of the Resistance when they're fighting AFO's side—he's at the top of their chaotic land. It's a fight with the one who governs current society. The "demon lord". Most of the Resistance died with Kudo, so Bruce fighting AFO was either with whoever was left, or he was completely alone, and those are old corpses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At Bruce's fight and eventual death with AFO, I think he might've gone back to where Kudo and the rest died. Whether he did or not, he took the last members with the Resistance for a last stand, if any remained. They probably did have some left; Kudo shouldn't have left Bruce to fight him and continue OFA, with no one on his side. Cruel, and a small platform for Bruce to stand on. The platform of the vestiges was already small compared to AFO when doing a symbolism of the power difference. Imagine Bruce on his own.
(This was when Nana and Yoichi pushed AFO+AFO/Tomura out of the vestige world)
Tumblr media
Plus, since the Resistance started out of "our Leader [having] misgivings about the future", Kudo wouldn't have brought everyone to fight AFO. If he did, the Resistance ends right there; there has to be a chance their will and cause continues into the future, neverminding Bruce and OFA. I don't mean Yoichi's will here—I mean the Resistance's. Don't bring everyone to the death march.
But look at how we only see two others when Bruce died, and even after Bruce is clearly dead, AFO still tries getting an answer from him. He wouldn't have left any survivors in this fight, let alone Kudo's.
Since Shinomori got OFA when he was 22, I think he and Bruce had been something of colleagues before, especially since Bruce knew where to find him in the forests. Since Shinomori had run into the hermit life to escape society and its weirdos, citing it as a "horrible era"
Bruce could just trust him with it and ran back to the city. He knew where to find him, they're close in age, one decided to fight to restore society while the other ran from it for what it became...
He didn't choose a member of the Resistance. But Bruce made a smart choice for who the next successor would be. He chose fast (enough that AFO was still mad about Kudo and Yoichi to bother interrogating a corpse), and chose the guy who:
● lives off the radar
● has a will against AFO/society, driven enough that he went off to hide
● has an Ability that senses danger, so he can always escape or be warned in time
● can evade AFO and his influence repeatedly
● is cautious, if not careful
● isn't tempermental to go get himself killed, with enough fear to know to step back
● would be unknown and non-existent to AFO, because he avoids society, where the big evil lurks
Shinomori knew the instant he received the Quirk that he wasn't strong enough. Bruce would have to have been present to at least pass it on, so Bruce probably knew Shinomori's decision too, to build up the will.
Tumblr media
Until En with his hair, each transfer was probably blood, since that was the OG method between Yoichi and Kudo that worked for sure.
When Bruce passed it to Shinomori, he chose a guy who didn't have an offensive Ability like him or Kudo (who managed to use his offensively when it was just small objects at his time). He chose a guy who could keep the wielder and Quirk safe, and would pass it on once he was done with his turn. I don't know if they knew Quirks stockpiled in OFA, but if they did, Bruce made a smart choice. If they knew or not, Bruce still chose well to ensure the will continued into the future, away from AFO's reach.
So yeah. Bruce passed One For All before fighting All For One, and likely knew Shinomori's intention. The reason he smiled could've been because he knew AFO would take another loss today, but the only details we got of his death are few. He smiled, fought, and died impaled, with dead comrades around, and AFO trying to get an answer out of him for Yoichi's whereabouts.
I'm still curious on why Bruce smiled because there are reasons we could put together, and reasons we don't know. Was it because he got one over AFO? Did he enjoy the fight? Because he was facing death in the face and couldn't help but smile? Because somewhere, One for All was growing to screw AFO over in the future? We don't know much of the fight's details itself beyond [AFO participated] and [Bruce was killed].
(Remembering how Bruce's Ability works just puts his fight against AFO as even more desperate or dire, really. He temporarily charges energy, but can only release it per limb once [ex. Midoriya still having a leg of Fa Jin]. So like when Midoriya used his individual fingers, Bruce only gets one shot for each body part he can think of. His strength with OFA isn't as much as it could be either, because he isn't the wielder anymore. All he has are the leftover fumes.)

We're supposed to be writing research proposals this semester (we don’t necessarily have to use said research proposals, this is more of a trial run to learn how it works) and I am. So tempted to focus my proposal on ao3. It's an archive and information science course, I could make it work, but I don’t know if I dare. But I want to so bad.

I’ve made progress on MITM, with echoes in my heart, and a little bit on artificial survivor tonight, and I’m very pleased with myself
MITM 21 and 22 are scheduled to go out May 16th and June 6th respectively, keeping the ‘every three weeks’ release schedule for 20-22 since I wrote them as a block. 23 has 6 scenes done ish, with 2 left, and 24 has 5 scenes done-ish and 3 left, (i think) so I think, if the creek don’t rise, I should be ready to publish 23 3 weeks after 22, on June 27th, and have 24 ready for the 4 year anniversary on July 16th. Keep your fingers crossed, but something resembling a regular update schedule might? be possible? for a little bit.

Cannot standddd so much of Roberto ferri’s work. Such inauthenticity such blandness with nothing interesting to offer besides remake & repeat of baroque. I look at his art and I feel nothing except the sense that I’m supposed to find it beautiful solely because it resembles that which has been called beautiful for centuries
