“Marisita believed that a few people could reach perfection if only they tried hard enough. And as she had been trying, and had not reached it, she considered herself a failure at all times.”

losing my mind a lil over this part in All the Crooked Saints where this girl Jennie is like cursed to only repeat what people say directly to her right after they say it and can’t generate her own words but then she figures out she can say song lyrics whenever she wants bc music is always speaking directly to the listener….& sometimes using other people’s words/art is exactly what we need to express ourselves…and like connecting that to the idea of sweetmetals in tdt….the art holds the emotions of the artist and it is always speaking to the audience regardless of how much time passes and if we didn’t have that we would lose the ability to keep ourselves awake (which is also the ability to create/speak for ourselves)

i know most of the fandom is screaming and crying and throwing up about tdt ending and never getting more books about the trc characters but tbh i'm kinda...glad? not bc i don't like the books or bc i'm sick of them, just bc i'm so so excited for maggie stiefvater to write new stuff. like i love trc, but my favorite books of hers are the scorpio races and all the crooked saints, so i'm hoping she'll write more stand alones once she's not consumed by tdt anymore

Yall I'm reading All the Crooked Saints (more maggie stiefvater, surprise) and oh my God her writing is so well suited for magical realism.
This book is One Hundred Years of Solitude with 70% less despair (and so far 100% less ants, which I appreciate). Also owls can hear miracles, which just seems true.
Stiefvater's characteristic use of repetition fits the story and the tone so well, building a rhythm of character introduction and how we see in each character's head.
The audiobook is, of course, spectacular and the reader Thom Rivera adds elements that integral to building the magical realism and connection to Marquez specifically. If you can stand audiobooks at all, listen to this one. (Also if you do not speak Spanish or hang out with many Spanish speakers, he will introduce you to the best way to say Colorado ever.)
I'm about 70% thru and really loving it.

Forgotten YA Gems is now on Discord! Join us for discussions!
We’re a Goodreads/Discord group that reads YA, NA, or MG books that are at least five years old. While not necessarily “forgotten” (as many of them have lovely fanbases here on Tumblr), we focus on backlist books that aren’t getting the same attention as new releases. Feel free to join us to vote on monthly reads, participate in challenges, and talk about books!
This month's reads are All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater, Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, and Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor.
Have you read them? Are they on your TBR? What did you think?

That guy in all the crooked saints was not special; I too have to deal with my vision flooded with darkness except it happens to me everytime I stand up

Spring Scavenger Hunt 🌼
Thanks @therefugeofbooks for tagging me! It was quit difficult for me to pick five books and in the end they don't even fit each other (and the theme) as nicely as I would like them to :D
Tumblr media
A book that starts with S: 'Saeculum' by Ursula Poznanski
A book with birds on the cover: 'All the Crooked Saints' by Maggie Stiefvater-it has an owl, that counts right? The other contestants were either teeny tiny or super dark = not fitting
A books with insects on the cover: 'Last chance saloon' by Marian Keyes. Wow this was surprisingly difficult
A book with flowers on the cover: 'The children of noisemaker street' by Astrid Lindgren
A book that takes place at spring time: 'Space Opera' by Catherine M. Valente. I'm not good at remembering when a book takes place, but Eurovision always takes place in spring and so this book had to as well :D
(Number 1 and 5 are interchangeable btw. They both start with S and take place during spring)
I'm absolutely not sure, who has or hasn't done this already, so I'm just going to tag a few people: @bibliophilecats @aliteraryprincess @lizziethereader @logarithmicpanda and @ninja-muse
