[ ID: Twitter user @queer_void submitted: Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019) both contain a lot of romance on Anna's part but it's not the "most important" form of love; they celebrate all forms of love. and i see Elsa as aromantic bc she doesn't show any sign of experiencing romantic attraction.]

The Wizard of Oz (1939) is actually a pretty good movie for arospecs. Besides Dorothy's Aunt and Uncle being married and the Tin Man briefly singing about how he wishes to be in a romantic relationship, there's no romance, which is especially cool because it's a film with a female lead and the most important relationships she forms are with her friends. The film feels surprisingly ahead of its time by not pushing her into a romance. 4/5 overall

Note
"Pacific Rim" (2013, dir. Guillermo del Toro): Strong found family vibes and no explicit romance on screen, although the protagonists' relationship is left ambiguous. All character relationships hinge on a concept called "Drift Compatibility," based on mutual trust and complementary combat skills. Most Drift Compatible characters are siblings, parents and children, and married couples. The overall theme is that humanity is stronger together. 5/5 but head's up for major character death.

Big Hero 6 (2014)
@the-circus submitted:
Name: Big Hero 6
Release year: 2014
Does it contain romance? How important is it to the story? No romance from as far as I can remember
How many stars do you rate it with from 1 to 5? 4
A short commentary about it: Honestly, this might be one of the more underrated Disney movies. I adore Baymax and the plot can honestly get rather emotional. My only big complaint is that I wish the other primary cast members outside of Hiro and Baymax got more development
TWs in this film for themes of family member death and dealing with loss and grief

Little Women (2019)
@allbymyshelf submitted:
Little Women
2019
Does it contain romance? Yes
How important is it to the story? Mildly important, but viewed from the lens of an aro-coded character. The emphasis is placed upon familial and platonic relationships.
5/5 stars
Little Women (2019) made me sob. For the first time as an Aro/Ace I felt seen and understood. It’s a beautifully done story anyway, but the addition of such strong aro-coding makes it amazing. I’ve never run across a character as aro as Jo March, and it was incredibly validating to watch. I would highly recommend it to any aro-spec person.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)
@dontthinkwedontnoticeyou submitted:
Name of the movie: “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”
Release year: 2018
Whether it contains romance or not, and how important it is to the story: No romance detected
How many stars you rate it with (from 1 to 5): 3
Commentary: It’s not groundbreaking in terms of aromanticism, but hey, it doesn’t have the romance plot! Obviously, when Clara and the nutcracker first met I thought “ooookey, here we go, there will surely be a romance between the two” because you know, that’s Hollywood. But guess what – there was not! Instead, the familial love was highlighted. So it’s just heads up that if you want to watch something with virtually no romance you can safely choose that. Especially if you like movies that are like candies for the eyes in terms of scenography and visuals.

"the blues brothers" is a great aro-friendly movie. just a pair of brothers on a mission from god. the only vaguely romantic scene is a wife singing an angry (but fun) song to her husband who's about to leave & join a band. also, the jilted ex-fiancee of one of the brothers is a recurring character, but shes portrayed by carrie fisher & has a rocket launcher. its extremely funny, has iconic chase scenes, & the music is top notch. also they drop nazis off a cliff. i cannot recommend it enough

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
@silver-stargazing submitted:
Name: The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King)
Release Year: 2001-2003
Romance?: Yes and in all 3 films. It is primarily between leading characters Aragorn and Arwen, with their love for each other being a pretty major motivating factor behind many of their actions. They only share a few scenes together throughout the entire trilogy, though, and they both have other motivations beside romantic love.
Eowyn, a character introduced in the Two Towers, harbors unrequited love for Aragorn and has a romantic scene with another character that is only present in the Extended Edition of RoTK.
There is a marriage scene in RoTK with one of the main characters.
How many stars you rate it with (from 1 to 5): 3
Commentary: These films are absolute classics when it comes to showcasing friendships and they’re my favorite arospec movies. The most important relationships throughout the story are the friendships that are forged between the titular Fellowship and these films keep the focus on how these friendships grow and are tested on their journey. Many times, the day is basically saved due to how strong these bonds of friendship have become and that’s pretty fantastic.

Peridot from Steven Universe is often thought to be aro. (2013 - 2019) The show does contain some romance between other characters (Greg and Rose, Sapphire and Ruby)
Also, came across a possible platonic relationship between Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady" (1964). Otherwise not much romance, iirc. (I haven't watched it in a while, but listen to the soundtrack often!)]

For the movie list - Shazam! (2019). Is has zero romantic plot or even a hint of one (the only thing I could classify as even remotely relating to romance is that there is a married couple), I don't even think we see a teenage crush. "Instead" there's great focus on family, chosen vs genetic, as well as friendship. I especially like the strong emphasis in this movie about brotherhood/sibling love and care. I'd give it 4/5 stars. It's not a masterpiece but still very enjoyable and fun

The Farewell (2019) seems like a good aro-friendly movie. While there is a big wedding subplot, the main focus of the film is on Billi and her relationship with her grandma and her homeland. Also, she doesn't get forced into a romantic relationship and goes the entire film single. 3/5 stars. TWs for discussions of death throughout

Apocalypse Now (1979) doesn't have any romance except for one scene with the Playboy Bunnies (even then, it's not about romance but the horrors of lust. Like the sirens in The Odyssey). Movie keeps its focus on addressing the horrors of war through the eyes of a band of soldiers and it works. TW for very gruesome war imagery including death, violence, blood, decapitations, on-screen animal death, drug abuse; 4/5 stars
