Of mercy, rage and traitors
Tumblr media
The Garleans' bodies laid still on the forest floor. Unconscious, some more hurt than others, all more fortunate than the man kneeling before her in forced penitence. Roots had taken hold of him, keeping him firmly on the ground, though he was still free to move his head to look at the Viera.
He didn't.
From her best guesses—his bruised face made difficult to see clearly—he was anticipating the movements of her boots. In fear they'd leave more contusions, certainly, though she hadn't touched him yet.
But Inge didn't move. She spoke, instead, each of her words enunciated clearly.
"I swore to myself a long time ago that I would help those in need and use my magic to preserve life over taking it.
I also promised my mother I would never leave our homeland... It has now been close to two decades since I have last seen her."
The Hyur stilled, his breath barely audible despite his broken nose and bloody mouth.
"You will listen and you will listen carefully, Laurentius Daye, because there are two things I absolutely detest in this world, and it is traitors and repeating myself.
Do I have your attention?"
No reaction. The tip of her staff pressed against his chin, forcing him to raise his head and meet her gaze.
"You can nod."
He nodded.
"Good."
The staff retreated as she breathed in slowly.
In involuntary mimicry, he did the same.
"We will return to Gridania together and you will not resist arrest. You will confess your crimes and take full responsibility for your actions. You will answer the Wood Wailers' questions in good faith and accept the judgement at the end of your trial. If you do so, I will ensure you are judged and treated fairly. If you do not or try to escape..."
She planted her staff at her side, her gaze never freeing the Hyur's.
"... I will find you again." She kept silent for a few seconds. "Is this arrangement amenable to you?"
He seemed to hesitate. With a flick of her hand, she lifted the silencing spell.
"You can speak. - Yes. - Yes, what? - I will do as you say. Ma'am. - We have an understanding, then."
Another flick of her hand and the roots that kept him in place returned to the soil. For a moment, she thought he was about to pick his lance and attack again. He didn't.
There was hope for him, it seemed.
"Get on your feet."

What would their lives be like if they had never met?
Lian would still work on the docks, I'd imagine. So a more boring life, but one in which he also wouldn't be in as much trouble and wouldn't have to deal with the really of the adventurer's life.
A'idan would have asked someone else to come instead, but how it'd go would entirely depend on the that person. I'm not really sure he would have ended in less troubles, but I think he wouldn't feel as well supported as he feels right now. And also wouldn't know what being in love feels like like since Lian is his first love.
How do they make up after an argument? Who is the first one to apologize?
They're both simple guys who say what they mean and mean what they say. Their communication skills could be better but overall they understand each other well enough that miscommunication has little chance to end up in big and messy arguments.
And so far in FFXIV they never had any, big, small, messy or clean.
But I'd say that the first to apologize who probably be the first who put his thoughts in order (and, true to themselves, A'idan would be straightforward and Lian would half-compain while apologizing).
It'd be really emotional for both of them, however.
(Also asked by @anpansblog! TY)
Who is the one who always says "I don't know" when the other asks where they want to eat?
Lian.
But he’d say “as you wish” rather than “I don’t know”.
A’idan is more the kind to respond with the very first (realistic) option that makes him hungry, and, if indecisive, the first thing he likes that he happens to see.
Tumblr media
Who would drive, and who would give directions?
Skaar would drive and X’yan’d give the direction. Perhaps not 100% of the time but I feel like this would be their dynamic.
Who uses the cheesy pick-up lines, or does corny gestures? Who whispers inappropriate things in the other's ear in public?
I’m gonna answer these two together because...
Both of them. Depends on who feels in the mood and how inconvenient it is in the moment XD They’re little shits in their forties and totally unapologetic about it.
How do their friends and family feel about them as a couple?
At first they didn’t know, though to be fair before Skaar proposed in the middle of a mission, they were just friends with benefits.
Then the wedding happened and both Skaar’s parents and X’yan’s clan leader were like “Must you really marry the son/protégé of my rival?” (neither of them had shared their in-law names before and thus nobody had realized it before the big day. Both husbands found it funny in retrospect, though.)
They’re mostly over it now, especially since neither X’yan nor Skaar are in the pirate business anymore. So overall I’d say that both family and friends see their marriage positively, though the family gatherings are definitely lively.
Tumblr media
What reminds them of each other?
For Yersinia:
The weird grass from the Golmorre Jungle that Inge made them try once and that’s how they ended up getting married.
Books and papers lying around in a complete mess, because that’s often what happens when they want to get access to the bed and are a bit too hm... busy for carefulness.
The smells of alchemy, since Inge’s room double as a lab (it’s a “bedroom” only because it’s got a bed often hidden under a pile a books and parchments).
Alchemy and books and adventure in general, in fact, since most of her gifts for her wife are practical gifts related to one of those.
For Inge:
Pretty much the same, but also archeological stuff and ancient artefacts, especially if they’re related to Mhach since it’s Yersinia’s expertise. She often sends her trinkets and promising historical objects she finds on her travels.
What are their parallels, whether in their personalities or their histories?
They’re both active and driven women who don’t let the world, not even their loved ones, get in the way of what they want to achieve. Both of them have cut contact with their family to do what they wanted to do: but where Yersinia changed her name despite it not being a custom of her people, Inge didn’t when she should have.
While there’s a part of ambition in their choices, they also just both love mysteries and science and that really cemented their relationship past the initial attraction.
(They’re both sexy nerds that, at first, you wouldn’t think are nerds. But they are.)
Tumblr media
Who kills the bugs in the house?
Probably Cathan. Not because Wolfe is afraid of insects (I mean, he graduated in Sharlayan studying botany. That would be unfortunate) but because, unless it’s a kind of insect dangerous for the structural integrity of his house, he knows they have their use and would rather put them outside or leave them be.
What is their most common argument about?
"My name is Wolfe, not Wolfy.”
But it’s turning into a running joke between them at that point, much to Wolfe’s dismay.
Nah I would say almost everything because they’re idiots and while Wolfe is too honest and too direct, Cathan has mastered the art of somewhat saying the truth while looking like he’s lying. Something that riles up Wolfe, and Cathan takes too much pleasure getting on his nerves.
Tumblr media
Did either of them try to resist their feelings?
Yes and no.
They started catching feelings in Heavensward, during the road trip. Neither of them did anything about it. They had other priorities, and it seemed obvious to both that they needed to end their mission first before even thinking about it. They didn’t even discuss it, just entirely ignored their crush.
Then Haurchefant died, then Ysaile died, then Estinien was possessed and eventually, finally, they saved him and the war was over.
Estinien visited her before leaving, but too much had happened. She was grieving and he needed time to figure out what he wanted from life now. They agreed to just remain friends and give it time, cuddled for a few hours and he was off.
She knew were to find him, though. He wrote to her and she kept his location’s secret so well that nobody even thought to ask her about it. Not even Krile and Tataru before they went after him.
They didn’t meet though. Not even when he helped in Gyr Abania, though she suspected it was him. Not even after he saved her in the Ghimlyt Dark, and at first she was a bit disappointed he didn’t stay long enough to see her awake, but she knew why he did it. It still wasn’t the time, and he didn’t want to stand in her way and influence her decision.
Their next meeting actually happened more or less like in MSQ. They pretended they hadn’t had any news of each other, but they talked privately after the meeting. And decided, once again, that it wasn’t time yet. Not with an apocalypse on the horizon. Both are protective and they feared it’d influence their choices.
It lasted until the “You’re alone, good.” scene in Sharlayan. Estinien didn’t jump into the night through the window, not until the early morning at least. They spend the night together, and then went back to pretending they hadn’t in the morning.
When she almost died at the end of MSQ though, he refused to leave her side. And gil changed hands among the Scions, albeit far from their eyes XD
So they both tried to resist their feelings and at the same time not really. Just prioritized other things without being in denial about how they felt.
Who is more protective? Who would get into a fight to defend the other? Who tends to the other's wounds?
I’d say pretty equals in these matters.
Part of why they got along so well and so fast is because they’re both extremely intense when family is concerned. She understood why he was so consumed by revenge, despite not having lost her father herself. But while she didn’t lose him, she did pretty terrible things just out of fear her father would be killed. Just to keep him safe.
So yeah, they’d both fight for each other and tend to the other’s wounds, and I feel like now they’re finally together, they’ll start fighting more and more in tandem.
Thanks for the ask, Mioup!

Yeesh, hopping on twitter to catch all the fanfest content was something. Community over there is so pessimistic. It might be here too, idk, maybe my little corner is isolated enough that I don't see it. I understand being critical about stuff, but it's feeling a bit overabundant.
Anyway the lady hrothgar look great, excited to see them in the game. I'm split on either sticking with visually updated au ra or fantasia-ing. I'll just have to see how cleanly my WoL takes to the switch.
Finally caught up with msq last night. First time I'll actually be ready for new expansion!

"I won't lie to you, Banban. Things are pretty bad here in Radz."
Derailed my msq-ing to crime up some pics of Banri meeting up with his sister Tsubame at the Meyhane. She had been in Radz on a work trip when the towers thing started and got stuck there; after months without hearing from her, Banri's parents sent him to Thavnair to find her. (basically, this is how i envision him getting involved with endwalker's plot as a non-wol lmao)

ffxvi spoiler for msq awakening, yes i'm going back to that and talking about what happened to benedikta there
ok i've slept on it, i can accept that benedikta is dead altho i'm still miffed about it a little because her story could've just been handled better. at this point i'm also p sure that barnabas just used her so whatever their relationship is, it's very one-sided. but benedikta is aware of it considering that she was incredibly upset when she thought she had lost garuda and said that barnabas would just cast her out. cid and benedikta's relationship strikes me more as familial or at least that's what i'm just immediately headcanon-ing because let there be one (1) man in her life that is close to her one way or another and not interested in sex with her (ok i think it was implied that she was in love with him but i'm tossing that STRIKE THAT it's actually written in the lore thing that her love for him was "deep and true" GODDAMMIT). although cid's reaction to her death was a little lackluster if it really was close in any way, but also maybe he just gave up on her a long time ago. the jury is still out on hugo's relationship with her since he didn't appear again since the demo and in the time i've played. maybe he actually loved her some amount, maybe not. i just don't know lol.
but, yeah. benedikta is another female character that had no control in her own story whatsoever. they implied she was a sex slave, was freed by cid, got upset when cid left and fixated on barnabas, barnabas uses her and made her seduce hugo and she is killed when she has no control over herself and her powers. they kind of pulled a yotsuyu but it's worse because at least yotsuyu wasn't fixated on any man like benedikta was and in the end, she took control and killed her parents and asahi. yotsuyu knew she was going to die one way or another but she went on her own terms. and at least there was enough exposition that most people felt sympathy for yotsuyu whereas idt that a lot of people in the fandom will for benedikta considering how little time we spent on her. plus she slept with one of the male characters that people have been thirsting after so i don't see a bright future for her in the wider fandom.
........outside of this i've been really enjoying the game lmao. i'm just upset because i specifically focused on benedikta and was expecting more fdhjkg. i'm gonna go play more now

Top 5 memories!
i think i kind of cheated and put a couple of them in the top 5 mounts answer lol. but nevertheless! let's see what i can think of!
-------------------
5. Clearing savage raids with my static
i'll be fair and put this at the bottom because i already rambled about a bunch of them in the top 5 mounts post, but yeah, super meaningful to me. mmo raiding always seemed so out of reach in every other mmo i've played, so being able to not only challenge and conquer them in FFXIV but do so alongside friends has been some of the most rewarding feelings I've ever experienced.
4. the end of Endwalker
Endwalker MSQ in general, honestly, but the ending really put a fine point on it. I think I still would put Shadowbringers at the top, but Endwalker in general being about hope triumphing over despair just felt really salient at a time when it was really, really easy to despair over stuff happening IRL (both in society at large and individually). experiencing a story that just unambiguously unashamedly goes "hope is the most powerful force in the universe and it will win" is just. really nice.
3. attending friends' ingame wedding
i just think it's really sweet that you can do this ingame. i've been to a fair few (including my own! :V at one point, at least...) but my favorite was after a recent major advancement in the, ahem, crime technology scene, and we were just hanging out in discord and playing Among Us before the ceremony before actually going and seeing the super-cute ingame ceremony "as we see ourselves" and the whole thing just really felt like we were having an actual party. it was a good night.
2. Dark Knight 50 and 80 quests
still some of the most emotionally powerful moments in the whole game, and both resonated deeply with me, and maybe even helped me come to terms with parts of myself IRL?? when i was watching my best friend play through 50, there was a moment after the end where we both just sat there in silence and he eventually said "Damn, how do you even follow that up? Where do you go from there?" and the writing finds out ways of course. especially in Shadowbringers. but damn, if that ain't a mood. plus I'm a sucker for evil/dark twin/clone shit. >.> and turning that into "it's just you, trying to make you love yourself in the ways you never let yourself do before" was, again, kind of salient.
Patch 5.3 day
5.3 was the first time I was caught up and able to experience the new content on the same day as everyone else. i had also just managed to cap out DRK on Ellie, meaning she was finally the canon job I had decided for her. so going into the new MSQ content on that day, completely unspoiled, experiencing that part of the story alongside everyone else, as my canonical self, and ending up main tank-ing the Warrior of Light trial who is basically an encapsulation of all the heroic imagery across the entire damn Final Fantasy series... i've had emotionally meaningful moments that got to me in other games before, and some of them mean even more to me than this. but experiencing that tidal wave of emotions in that way alongside people just as into this shit as I was... i'm not sure anything else will ever hit in quite the same way again.
(it was also the day where, after I had finished the MSQ bit and just went to some random place to hang out and process it all, i got recruited into the FC where i met most of my ingame friends with whom I'm still friends today, so it was also a good day in that sense too ;u;)
thanks for the ask @sasslett!! i made it extremely emotional and sentimental and i'd apologize but i'm pretty sure that was exactly your goal :P

2022 Writing Round-up
Tagged by @crackinglamb and tagging basically the entire clown car (@yloiseconeillants @azure-dragonsinger @mythandral @whatsthisascianbullshit @tallbluelady @hermits-hovel)
For simplicity's sake, I am choosing to interpret "words posted" as anything I've put either on here or on AO3, since I know my AO3 has seen precious little activity from me lately and most of my work has been doing prompts which get posted directly to tumblr.
Words posted: 34,376
Additional words written: 26,490
Grand total of words: 60,866
Fandoms: 1
Highest kudos count: Crisis of Faith at 24 kudos
Highest hit oneshot: Crisis of Faith at 126 hits
New things I tried: Writing other people's OCs! It's scary! And fun! And Scary! AAAAAAAA!!!!!! But no, for real it's been a lot of fun getting into the headspaces of other characters that aren't NPCs bc it turns into real time collaborative stuff!!! It also helps that we are all just. Constantly yelling about our children in the discord server so there's been a good aggregate of info by now.
Fic I spent the most time on: Dragoon Age: Origins. It took a little over a month and about five or six passes of beta-ing before both I and my beta reader were satisfied with it.
Fic I spent the least time on: Crisis of Faith. I think I sat and got most of it out in one sitting, and rewrote the last conversation once.
Favourite thing I wrote: This post is probably my favourite from this year. I come back to it all the time.
Favourite thing I read: honestly genuinely i do not know. I have read so much this year. The answer to this question is likely something that was posted in the group chat at 2am and has not been posted anywhere else.
Writing goals for 2023: literally anything I have plans for getting to Kitali's Heavensward arc properly. I'm currently playing through her clone over on Light DC and I'm about halfway through ARR in MSQ, so I'm hoping a couple more big pushes will get me into the 2.x patches in the next month or so and then I can start writing fresh off of the story!
I also have the royalty AU that's been banished to the backburner in the wake of all the AUs coming out of the clown car (affectionate) but I'd like to explore that a bit more.
New works:
Crisis of Faith - The aftermath of the DRG 50 fight leading into meeting Estinien again prior to Heavensward MSQ (2,261 words)
Dragoon Age: Origins - A (mostly) external perspective on Kitali's journey from mercenary to Azure Dragoon (16,208 words)
Extinguishing the Last Light - The bad ending where the Scions fail on the First, and another legendary hero is called in their place (4,122 words)

Aïcha Bedi
Tumblr media
B A S I C S
Name: Aïcha Bedi
Nicknames: none
Age: In her thirties
Nameday: 28th Sun of the 5th Umbral Moon (which she probably shares with a bunch of my characters)
Race: Midlander hyur
Gender: Cis woman
Orientation: Mostly straight
Profession: Adventurer, formerly a contract killer
P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C T S
Hair: Long and curly. She takes great care of it and regularly despair at what Inge does with hers.
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Fair, but tan easily. Considering how much time she spends outside, people tend to assume her skin is darker than it actually is (on this point the screenshots aren't very accurate since they don't show her tan but that'd be a nightmare to represent accurately XD)
Tattoos/scars: No tattoos whatsoever. She's got plenty of scars, most aren't really remarkable, but there are two that are special: one from Zenos' blade when he stabbed her in Rhalgr's Reach (it's not just her ego who got bruised that day, sorry MSQ), and one from her cesarean section while she was on the First. Don't worry: nothing creepy happened while she was unconscious, G'raha just had the worst timing ever.
F A M I L Y
Parents: Her father lives peacefully in Tural. She has no idea where her mother is, if she's still alive or even who she was since she left when Aïcha was still an infant.
Edmont de Fortemps also counts (haha) as a paternal figure in her life.
Siblings: None by blood. She does consider Alisaie and Alphinaud like her siblings, however. Artoirel and Emmanellain are more like extended family.
Grandparents: Long dead of her father's side. No idea on her mother's.
In-laws and Other: Well, she's in a relationship with Estinien so I suppose Alberic counts as her father in-law. The moment both realized that their respective father would have to meet eventually was glorious, because the dad jokes will be neverending and mostly at their expense.
Officially, they also have a kid together born during her time on the First.
Officially, because Estinien offered to adopt the kid and pretend he was the biological dad. Only three people know who said bio dad truly is, none of them is the man in question, and Aïcha would rather die than say it out loud. It's one thing to make dubious life choices, another one to let the world know about it...
(I haven't decided on the name or gender yet, but we can thank @gatheredfates for the prompt she sent me. It got completely out of hand but I'm having a lot of fun with the idea it gave me.)
Pets: None
S K I L L S
Abilities: Excellent shooter, although her mechanical skills don't go much further than what she needed to maintain her guns. She hasn't touched one in years and has no intention to change that.
Excellent dancer given that she's trained since childhood. She dances about as much for the artistry of it as for the self-expression it allows without having to speak her feelings out.
She also went through the GLD/PLD quests in Ul'dah, and that's mainly how she's been fighting since then.
She's also a surprisingly good poet and singer, albeit that's not known to many people.
Hobbies: Writing or reading poetry, singing, dancing and trying out new food (including the kind of food that even the most adventurous people hesitate to put in their mouth). She's pretty receptive to art in general to be honest and will gladly watch plays or go to concerts if she can.
T R A I T S
Most Positive Trait: Open-minded
Most Negative Trait: her competitiveness. You'd think someone who succeeds as well as her would be graceful when she loses but fuck no! Every Scions and most people who played even a card game against her once know that she's a sore loser and will use every loophole under the sun to try to win lmao
L I K E S
Colors: carmine and gold
Smells: campfires, incense, fresh flowers, the ocean
Textures: Soft fabrics (silk and satin especially), the sand under her feet, the breeze against her skin (yeah it counts as a texture)
Drinks: the main thing that matters is how much caffeine there's in it and how much sugar she can add to it
O T H E R    D E T A I L S
Smokes: No
Drinks: Alcohol sometimes, but never a lot and only very, very occasionally since the banquet and then the drugged beverage in Falcon's Nest. For the most part, she runs on water as well as coffee and tea if available.
Drugs: No, she hates not feeling in control of herself
Mount Issuance: Aïcha didn't join any free company. That'd mean taking orders and she's no soldier, so she didn't have a mount until Haurchefant offered her her black chocobo. As you can guess, it's been her mount ever since.
I'm not entirely clear on the timeline in StB yet for her, but if she got her yol, she left it with the Mols.
Been Arrested: no but she should have.
Tagged by: @lilbittymonster (ty again! I'm probably not gonna tag you every time because you'll get tired of it at some point I think XD)

How did you decide on Arsay's romantic partners? Did it happen as you played or did you plan in advance based on spoilers/osmosis/etc?
OO thanks for asking! I will be rambling about this haha It was a little bit of a mix tbh! I saw cute g'raha tia art on my TL all the time but aside from knowing he at some point gets covered in crystals, I had 0 sense about what his character was. I just really loved his character design and I was ready to play the whole game just to meet him! I was pretty much blind about everything in the game aside from seeing character designs via fanart. (the MONTHS i spent thinking people were rting master xehanort fanart... smh) My friends were adamant about not spoiling things for me either so I was able to come across things naturally and form my own opinions on the characters! I did instantly love G'raha the moment he showed up during the CT raids but I was actually on the fence about shipping Arsay with him for a long time!! He was always there in the back of my mind but I was waiting for some other character to come in with the steel chair and become the blorbo that I never expected to love. Unfortunately all the male characters that I could potentially throw at Arsay were too dead, had a shitty personality/gone from the msq for way too long, or get table scraps of content which I didn't really feel like dealing with this time around. (> had just came out of a years long stint of making content for myself for side characters iykyk) I was legitimately hetcomp-ing Arsay which is insane of me!! smh at my past self. Y'shtola was literally running at me, chair in hand, ready for the knock out. I have no plans whatso ever to ship Arsay with her. At MOST I thought they could be friends. Me shipping them together was absolutely a product of slowly going through the game, figuring out Arsay's character, and realizing how perfectly it compliments Y'shtola's. Y'shtola was coming across as the type to keep walls between herself and others, meanwhile Arsay was becoming the silly bean who does not know what personal space is. It was the perfect grounds for a "bright character lights up the moody character's life" situation!! And so I thought, "well Arsay's still waiting for g'raha (maybe??) but her and shtola can at least be besties!". But literally any time I put them next to each other all I could think was that they both are in love and are too dumb (arsay)/stubborn(shtola) to do anything about it. Arsay wormed her way into y'shtola's heart and Y'shtola became someone who Arsay always looked forward to seeing.
I really did need to know everyones vibes in ShB before I could make the final choice of what to do wolship wise. I herd that a lot of changes happen in that expac and I was worried the characters would no longer be compatible. I also did not realize the exarch shows up IN ShB and not in the ShB patches. (my friends kept saying G'raha comes back in 5.3, I did not realize they were being very specific in the language there haha). It was the day after I finished the greatwoods section in ShB that I was actually like "oh Arsay has been going through it I think she needs a girlfriend in these trying times" and pulled the trigger on that front. I had already been teasing the idea to some degree but didn't want to make it official right away. I half wrote a "Arsay finally figures out she's in love with her best friend actually and panics" fic. I still havent finished it since incredibly brilliant me decided that her confidant through all that turmoil would be Urianger and writing his dialogue requires knowledge of Shakespearean english that I do not posses.
I did kinda put myself in a corner cause then I had to figure out what to do about G'raha now. I still hadn't fully committed to any prior romance between them in the CT raids so it wasn't like that was an issue. however, as I continued to play through ShB I knew I couldn't not ship Arsay with him too. He was WAY too in love with her. They had WAY too much synergy together. THANKFULLY she has two hands and its not uncommon for Miqo'te to have multiple partners. I don't generally do OT3 or poly shipping myself, but for my catgirl to be the happiest she needs both of them in her life! And I'd like to believe she would make their lives happier too! The three of them all have their own experiences with loneliness and isolation, it warms my heart to imagine them finding a forever family in each other!
tl;dr: I was tweeting "who can I possibly ship arsay with 🥺" twice a week for 9 months despite in my heart knowing the answer and just waiting till I got far enough in the story to confirm things could work out.

New character, who dis?
So my Sarg FC decided to go do some casual alt-ing over on Dynamis, so Catriona Frost and I are now leveling archer and conjurer over on Halicarnassus. She’s a character who’s been vaguely in my head for a little while, we’ll see how she goes. For the moment, it’s fun being on a brand new world, where everyone is grabbing all the fun names and NPC roleplayers are running around everywhere.
Leveling with the Road to 80 buff, XP earring, hat, and ring, and food is insane. I’ve been playing for two evenings, maybe a grand total of 8 hours, and I have both archer and conjurer to 25, even as I’m just finishing level 15 MSQ.

I've been tempted for a while to either write or make a comic with gpose to tell the story of Inge and Aïcha as the WoLs.
Problem is, English as it's spoken in game is pretty difficult and also I don't have a whole lot of spoons and I'm starting my apprenticeship in August.
But it's so tempting, and I'd love to explore the MSQ through their eyes properly.

MSQ-ing with Thancred. My minion snuck into that last one oop--
Story bit: (ARR)  Mayumi and Thancred are both in the intelligence gathering business, so they were often on the same wavelength when preforming tasks together. Unlike Thancred, Mayumi personally never went as far as committing acts of grander scale espionage...or so she claimed. In truth, she had done so for the Immortal Flames several times before. Her denial was out of habit, ever the one to keep her cards close.
