As much as we (including myself) have joked or enjoyed Billy’s S3 mustache, I have to say that the first time I watched S3....

I hated it. I saw that mustache and thought, “Oh, no. He’s becoming his father. The incident with Max at the Byers’ actually broke him.”

Because he wasn’t obedient. He argued with his father, directly to his face and fought and fought and fought. Billy’s such a fighter and he fought for so long, which made his decent very slow. Slow enough that it took the Mind Flayer to fully break him into a tired, submissive creature.

El did more than find Billy. She saved who Billy truly is, the golden mama’s boy who just wants to surf and hang out with his favorite person.
